Blurb: Rush is so deep in the closet he can’t find the door, but meeting Brian might give him the courage to step out of it.

When Brian and Rush meet in a dark alley, sparks fly. The attraction is fast and hard, but Rush is a rancher with a reputation to uphold and Brian is out and open.

Both men have secrets, including the small powers they each have, and a relationship means they might have to share. It would require Rush coming out of his closet and putting his ranch and his friendships with the people around him at risk.

For Brian, it means putting his heart on the line for a man who’s afraid of being himself. He’s been down that road before and Brian won’t go back in the closet, not even for Rush.

Each time they’re together, Rush and Brian set the air around them on fire. As they move closer, both are still holding back, still unsure of each other. One of them will have to take the first step or this thing between them will flounder.

For Rush, it’ll take a huge step and a lot of trust to risk his entire life in the small Texas town of Spring Lake. And once he’s out, there’s no going back.

For Brian, his heart isn’t the only thing at risk. If he keeps seeing Rush, he knows he might just lose his life.

Review: Brian is a Pi and while on a stake out meets sexy Rush in alley. Instant sparks fly. There are repeated phone sex conversations which I did not care for. Rush is in the closet and it shows throughout the book. If he was that worried why did he not just stay in it.

I felt sorry for Brian having feelings for someone who was not sure yet whether or not he could be with another man out in the open. I say tell him when you make up your mind call me then.

While I expected this book to be better than the first it was not in my opinion. Sammi and Mitchell are in it and I liked that Brian was determined to figure out who Sammi is. I also got really irritated with all the sex scenes and the back and forth of one character making repeated mistakes and the other forgiving him. Seriously? I would have said enough was enough.

It was an o.k. read.

New Orleans Second Lines

by

Lynn Lorenz

Matt and Lane grew up together, best friends, sharing almost all their secrets. But on the last day of college, those secrets spilled in one night of passion and tore them apart, sending Matt to the West Coast and Lane home to New Orleans.

Now, Hurricane Katrina is set to destroy New Orleans. This might be the worst time to try for a second chance, but nothing can keep Matt from Lane. The man he let get away.

For Lane, no hurricane can pry him from the city, especially without Sebastian. The older man has been a dear friend and his landlord since Lane returned from college. Sebastian refuses to flee, preferring to stay in his Creole cottage in the French Quarter and ride out the storm.

Sebastian’s life becomes intertwined with Lane’s, as Matt finds out when he’s drawn into capturing Sebastian’s memoirs of being gay in New Orleans. The elder gentleman’s stories are full of surprises and lessons for the young men.

The most important ones Sebastian teaches them—and himself—are that second chances don’t come along often, and you’re never too old to fall in love.

Review: Mitchell has sworn off one night stands even though he’s at a bar drowning his pain. Sammi, an escaped sex slave with an unusual gift, walks in survying the scene and determines Mitchell is the one he needs to pick up to get off the streets before Donovan finds him.

I felt anger and disgust on Sammi’s behalf for what has been done to him. People are not objects or property to be sold to the highest bidder or broken into to what someone else wants. I hated Donovan and his right hand man. Both were without conscience or compassion.

Mitchell is strong yet sweet and caring. He is drawn to Sammi from the start and takes him home. He finds out there’s more to Sammi than meets the eye. When trouble comes knocking, Sammi flees in an attempt to save Mitchell from getting into trouble.

I really loved the characters in this book. Even though they come from different backgrounds they are both broken to a degree. I adored the way they helped each other as the story progressed. It was a delightful story with plenty of suspense, romance and mystery.

Looking forward to the next one in the series. Fantastic read. Highly recommended.

Review:  I have had the pleasure of reading many stories by this author and new that I was going to get an amazing story to read.  In fact it was one of the reasons I picked this story, then I saw the cover and just about fainted.  Two sexy men and one of them is a sexy cop, well let’s just say wow.

David’s dad is a homophobic old man raised in a time when men did not sleep with other men.  Some days he is sweet and then there are days where David feels he is walking on egg shells around him.  Especially now that his father has Alzheimer’s.  He doesn’t want to put him in a care facility but just doesn’t know what to do.  Especially when he comes home to find him missing.

David goes to the police for help but had not expected the sexy cop who was set out to help him.  Travis is bound and determined to help him, but he wants him for himself also.  Just too bad it might be the wrong time to do so.  Especially when David’s father gets more out of control.

Now I do have to admit that there was something missing in the story but it didn’t really take away from it at all.  I am not even sure what it is or why I felt that way.  Alzheimer’s is a very hard disease on not only the patient but the family members and I felt that this author took it all in.  It was very believable and felt like I was there watching it go down.  The ending wasn’t really surprise and neither was the outcome though.

It was a very enjoyable read that I enjoyed quite a bit.  Sexy men, frustrating times, sexual heat, crazy old man and dangerous situations are just some of what you get in this book.  Truly loved reading it and would definitely recommend it.

Review: Inspector Locke is transferred to Waterford after being disgraced. Inspector Blade is not happy that he is partnered with Locke and assumes the things he’s heard is true.

To me this story is about two men who fight the attraction they have for one another and who should have gotten to know each other before believing rumors about the other. I liked that they worked together despite their misgivings at the beginning, as everyone deserves to be heard and justice to be served.

There is an interesting and fascinating paranormal aspect to a story that was already interesting because of the main characters. I loved all the different paranormals introduced and am looking forward to reading more.

Blurb: When Mark Madison accepts a position as tutor in New Orleans, he does so to run away from his past. Yet he never once believed the house on Coliseum Square would actually hold the key to his future.

Royal DuCote, the wealthy owner of the house and father to a son named Luc, is dark, sexy, and haunted. Ever since the death of his wife and Luc’s mother, nothing has been the same. Luc refuses to speak or let Royal near him, and putting Luc in school is out of the question, so he hires a tutor for his son. But when he meets Mark Madison, he’s instantly attracted to the younger man.

As tensions build between Mark and Royal, Luc’s affliction becomes a mystery Mark wants to solve. But will what Mark discovers destroy all that is left of the DuCote family?

Review: I am known to love the 19th century historicals. There is something about that time that awakens the romantic in me. The speech itself feels too romantic and alluring for me to stay away.

In this novella, that feeling along with the foreboding of being a homosexual and the desperation it all brought, was right there as it began. It easily draw you into the book, when Mark runs from his past life in fear, constantly thinking that impending death or jail awaits him in every corner. The paranoia when one knows he’s an outlaw and could easily lose everything is quite obvious from Mark’s thoughts and actions.

But, then Mark makes a new life, under a new name as a tutor for Royal DuCote’s son in New Orleans. The romance should start bright and shiny, but that wasn’t the case. While the book starts with Mark making up his mind to forever hide his sexuality out of fear, it quickly turns into love-at-first-sight and a reckless behavior from both Master and employer. The romantic speech I so loved was lacking during their dialogues and even more so during their intercourse. The relationship between Mark and his charge was a fast built up that didn’t come to terms with the boy’s disposition, creating quite the oxymoron feel about it. The time space as well was so fast, that any meaningful action/reaction lost its credibility. What could have been a great read was in fact a lukewarm one that disappointed me in its execution.

If you don’t mind the details and the lack of authenticity about this book, I think it’s a nice read. The pair quite hot and sexy and the end inspire an “awww” out of you with its HEA. But, if you are that era lover like me then it’ll probably disappoint the heck out of, too.

Review: Travis is a firefighter who thinks he is dumb. He barely made it through high school and doesn’t think he is smart enough for the cute teacher who teaches his nephew, Rusty. Anthony is a second grade teacher who knows when people are lying. When he meets Travis he is impressed with the man and asks him out for coffee. But, Travis is wary because everyone seems to lie. But, he discovers trust has to go both ways and now both men have to take a leap of faith.

This is a really sweet cute story that had some really touching sweet moments. Travis might be good looking and have street smarts, but he doesn’t have many book smarts. When he meets Anthony, he is instantly attracted, but thinks the teacher is out of his league. Anthony is sick of boyfriends lying to him and has just about sworn off men when he meets Travis, a man who is completely honest about himself. he takes a chance and asks Travis out and they instantly hit it off. But, honesty is demanded by both of them and when Anthony confesses his secret Travis reacts badly and if he wants to stay with Anthony he is going to have to believe it is the truth.

I found this story to be sweet and cute and a wonderful feel good light read. I loved Anthony and Travis, but Travis was my favorite character. He was just so completely honest and open and was so wonderful with his nephew, he about broke my heart with the scene in the classroom when he talked about Rusty’s dad. Anthony is great, as well. he never looks down at Travis and even offers him help when Travis admits the problems he had in school. Travis and Anthony were really hot together and other than the bump in the road when Anthony admits his secret, they were perfect for each other. While I really enjoyed this story I have to admit that it would have been even better if both characters hadn’t picked themselves apart constantly. it wasn’t needed other than the first time to explain their lack of confidence in themselves, and while I found the paranormal aspect to be interesting it didn’t really add anything to the story other than a bit of conflict and angst.

I will recommend this to those who love cute kids, great characters, hot sex, two men coming together in honesty and a very happy ending.

Blurb: After spending a hot, no-holds-barred sex-filled weekend at a hotel with a man he only knows as Mark, werewolf Bobby Cotteau isn’t sure but he thinks he’s found a new mate. Problem is he never got his lover’s real name. Or his phone number, or even where he lives. But that’s not Bobby’s only problem.

Mark is Professor Mark Bradford, and he’s spent his career as a zoologist trying to prove there are wolves living in the swamps around St. Jerome. If he can do this, he’ll make a name for himself, restore his reputation and maybe even name them after his father, who was killed by a wolf during a camping trip in the swamp with a teenaged Mark. But after a weekend of the best sex of his life, Mark’s fallen hard for Bobby, but without the man’s real name, he has no hopes of ever seeing him again. And the longer they’re apart, the more desperate he is to find Bobby. It’s like he’s under some kind of spell.

Meanwhile, at the Rougaroux Social Club’s yearly Rougaroux Festival, which Bobby is in charge of, everything is falling apart. The forecast is for storms, the Virgin Mary has appeared a tree on the festival grounds at the church, pilgrims are swarming, and beer is being sold… and his new mate is about to expose Bobby’s pack to the world.

Review: What a great book. I’m so afraid of Shapeshifter/paranormal book these days, they are usually so poorly written, but damn this book was absolutely great.

Bayou Loup starts with a great, hot, amazingly sexy weekend of sex between two strangers. What was meant to be a simple one-night stand, just a hook-up between two guys, escalated to mind-blowing, beyond their wildest imagination lovemaking.

Bobby never intended to go that far. For him, it was his last chance to feel what he had for 25+ years been denying. A gay man trapped in a straight mating bond. He could not deny his wolf back then what it wanted, but now he’d live what left of his life in his true self. But, Mark proved to be so much more. Bobby knew in his head that he should let the man go after their earth-shattering first time, he simply couldn’t. No names, no personal information, no nothing except this little time, and Bobby intended to make the most of it. His wolf strangely enough felt the same way.

And God, Mark had never meant to let the man practically manhandle him. It was supposed to be a fast grinding, a getting off and out of the door just like every other time. But, this man awakened a side of him that wanted to simply let go and be taken care of. Something about Bobby called to him and Mark didn’t want for this weekend to end.

However it did and Bobby went back to his pack, his duty and his obligations. His soul hollowing with want for Mark.  Bobby starts to realize that he found his true mate, a miracle in itself. If Bobby could get hold of Mark and talk to him, ask him to be his mate, than his dreams would finally come true; a second chance in life, a second chance to live it as a gay man, truly happy and in harmony with his wolf.

But life is never fair. Caught up in the Rougaroux Festival, Bobby lets time pass and the dread comes knocking on his door when Professor Mark Bradford, a zoologist specialized on wolves, is spotted in the swamp, searching for evidence that the swamp wolf exists. Mark’s entire life changed when a wolf attacked his father and caused his death at this very spot when he was fifteen. Ever since he’s been obsessed with trying to prove its existence and now he got more than he bargained for.

As Bobby is faced with the First Law of the pack, to keep it safe at all costs, he must choose his mate and life, or his pack and death. And Bobby’s never been a selfish man…

What a story, how beautifully written, what a journey this was for me. I must admit that although this is the third book of the series, it’s the first one I read, and boy does it stands alone with pride. I’m completely hooked and looking forward to reading the previous and the next if there’s more to come.

Totally recommended, I’m certain you’ll enjoy it.

Readers with a history of rape or sexual abuse may find elements of this story disturbing.

Reviewer:   Portia

Review:  Tor is the WWFL heavyweight champion…technically.  One month ago, he was almost fatally wounded and his mate was raped and killed, in front of him.  Now, he refuses to fight.  His body has healed, but his heart is still grieving.  Unfortunately, as a slave, he is still under his master, Merrick’s control.  And Merrick is betting that the beautiful, virgin sex slave is exactly the man to bring Tor back to fight ready status.

This was a really enjoyable read.  The world that Lynn Lorenz has created is very different from the normal Were/shifter romance.  In this world, Were are feared by humans and breed and enslaved.  The fighters of the WWFL only fight to protect their mates.  In exchange, they are given relatively comfortable existences, albeit under guard.

This is a very sexy romance.  Sky is a virgin when Tor claims him.  Having the big, sexy were as his personal plaything is better than anything he’d been taught in his harem. Their play sometimes takes on a mild bondage tone, but never anything too hardcore.

Of course, Lynn Lorenz can’t write without sneaking in a bit of angst.  Amidst all that hot lovin’ questions loom.  Will Tor accept Sky? Not just as his mate, but as his love?  Will Sky stay with Tor or accept a deal for his freedom?  And all the while, Tor’s dead mate, Jin, is the unseen “other man”.

I really enjoyed this story.  It is dark, in places, but beautifully written and paced.  Highly recommend this for readers who are drawn to darker paranormal, sexy werewolves and beautiful sex slaves.

Blurb: Charlie’s cut himself off from the pleasures of life. After all, he was a drug addict who killed his brother and doesn’t deserve them. He also believes he should have never gotten out of prison, but he did, and now every day he struggles to do penance for his crime, and working at a shelter for homeless men in Katrina-ravaged New Orleans is his way of doing it.

Devon is mysterious, dark, and dangerous. Especially to Charlie. Devon’s refusal to speak about what he does, his comings and goings at night, all lead Charlie to one conclusion—Devon’s a drug dealer. And for a recovering cocaine addict, a dealer is the last thing he needs in his life, because the need for the white powder is always there.

But so is the physical and emotional need Charlie feels for Devon. Charlie fights his attraction, but he knows he’s in a losing battle. He’s always been a sucker for a bad ass, and to him, Devon looks to be the baddest of them all.

Can Charlie keep his internal pledge to pay for his crime, or will Devon destroy everything Charlie’s worked so hard to build? Or will giving in to Devon be the freedom Charlie’s secretly prayed for?

Product Link: http://www.amberquill.com/AmberAllure/CharliesMission.html

Review: Oh whoa! What a book. Lynn Lorenz’s novella was so my cup of tea. Very realistically written Charlie’s Mission had all the elements I love in a romance. A protagonist beaten from wrong choices, horrible mistakes, guilt, despair and self-punishment meets a dark, mysterious man that is so much more of what he seems and the battle of heart vs. mind.

Charlie is a self-loathing ex-addict. He is the reason for destroying his family and the murderer of his own brother. Or so he thinks of himself. He believes that he’s a worthless being and doesn’t deserve happiness or joy. Ever since the day he accidently took his brother’s life, he has not allowed himself even the simplest pleasure of dating a man. He has devoted his life to the shelter. helping other ex-addicts and homeless men, trying to give something back for what he took. But, it hits him like a hurricane, when he sees Devon, who appears in the middle of the night, holding a man-child in his arms, asking Charlie to take care of him. Devon is tall, dark, wrapped in a mystery veil and most of all dangerous, or so he thinks…

I like realistic characters. I love their flaws and I adore their pain. That’s how we are, foolish and reckless and we pay the price. Charlie is exactly that, taken from the streets and put in a novel and you can’t stop yourself from loving this character. Oh and he’s hot! And Ms. Lorenz makes sure we get that part from the start. That is what makes Devon go crazy all about Charlie. It’s like Charlie flows in his body from head to toes in first sight. And even though Devon tries very hard not to get involved with a priest (as he at first thought) and an ex-addict (as he later was told) he just cannot stop… Having a serious case of “I want to save the world”, Devon wants to try to save Charlie from himself and show him what a wonderful and strong man he really is.

The plot is great and the way their relation evolves is even more so. With Charlie thinking that Devon is a drug-dealer yet lusting for the bad-ass type, his inner fight between craving for human touch and emotion; and not allowing himself to get that and on top of all this Devon’s insistence in meeting him, wanting him and making him see how good they are together.  the book keeps you at a level of intensity of wanting to know what lies on the other page.

If it was one thing that spoiled it for me was the fact that Ms. Lorenz lets us know, from the very beginning of the story, of who Devon is and what he does for a living. Although I won’t give any spoilers here, it is pretty obvious from the very 10 or so pages what the storyline is. Had she kept it a secret until it was necessary to reveal it, it would have been a great, great novel, with high levels of suspense and the mystery would had captivated us even more. However this book is still very much worth reading and I am certain that if you’re a fan of romance you will love it as much as I did.

Review: Peter flees from Darcy after he is abused by a man who Darcy brought to their bed.   Peter looks to the only person that might help him, Ted.  Billy is covering while the sheriff and Alpha Scott is away with his mate Ted, when a man who has been beaten comes looking for Ted.  Billy steps in to help and is shocked to learn that the man is his mate.

I have got to say that this is a well written story with a good plot and a very good resolution at the end. Peter has lost all his confidence, his pack didn’t want him, all the men he has hooked up with dumped him as soon as they got bored with him and now he has been abused and beaten.  meeting Billy gave him some hope but he knows that if he wants to have Billy then he needs to do things for himself and getting a job and a place to stay makes him feel proud of himself.

You will love Peter.  He is sweet, kind and unsure of himself and you ache for him when he is having his nightmares and when someone tries to set him up.  Billy is just the sort of man who you would pick for Peter someone who is strong, sure and understanding; who will stand by Peter and support him and give him the encouragement that he needs, *sigh* a truly loving mate.

The slight danger in this wasn’t over the top and neither was the storyline. The way that it was resolved at the end without a fight or bloodshed was a breath of fresh air. I must admit that Peter’s solution was brilliant and insightful and that Bobby’s level head helped to temper Billy’s rage.

What do I recommend… for those of you who love shifters, hot sex, hot men, a good storyline and a perfect ending to a story then this is the book for you. I also recommend that Ms Lorenz write a story for Bobby and Darcy because I could see that being like a clash of the Titans lol.

Blurb:  Sheriff Scott Dupree’s got more problems than he can handle. He’s alpha of his small werewolf pack and coming up for re-election as sheriff in a year. On top of this, his mother is casting love spells to find Scott a mate. It’s all Scott can do to keep the town and pack under control, let alone his urges to mate.

Ted Canedo is openly gay, a disgraced ex-cop from New Orleans. His patrol partner was killed on duty and Ted took the blame for taking protection money from the store owner to save his partner’s wife and kids’ grief. No one knew Ted was in love with his partner, not even his partner. Having him die in Ted’s arms killed something inside Ted too.

When the moon is full and Scott’s momma works her magic, Ted’s erotic dreams and his work as a PI bring him to St. Jerome and sexy, straight Scott. Scott’s stunned to learn his wolf is gay and wants to mate with Ted. Ted refuses to become involved with a straight man, much less a werewolf, terrified to risk his heart again.

Especially if it he has to watch Scott fight to the death for his right to claim Ted as his mate.

Review: I enjoyed this book and thank Lynn Lorenz for producing a shifter story where both mates try to fight the pull and that made it enjoyable to read.

Scott is disbelieving of his Maman, she’s cast a love spell to bring him his perfect mate, only it’s back fired as she never specified the sex of his mate. Ted is gob smacked, can this really be happening to him again, he’s falling for another straight man and he finds out that it’s not of his own choice.

I loved this book as both these men do try to fight their attraction, they both try to be reasonable, and they both try to convince themselves that the spell has been broken and that they can get on with their lives without the other, we can see it’s a losing battle and that’s why I enjoyed it so much.

Yes, I know some of you will say ‘but it’s gay for you’ but the thing is it isn’t.   Just because Scott is straight doesn’t mean his wolf has to be and what a wolf wants he gets, so Scott had to man up and accept the fact that he was gay, just because he never had the urge for a man before makes no difference.

All the various characters in this book are well developed and each seemed to add something more to the story from Darcy the artist to Billy the deputy, hopefully we will be seeing more of all the characters.

So I say read and enjoy.
