Review: The Spirit Key is the first book in Parker Williamā€™s paranormal series, Lock and Key. The audio narration is performed by Collin Darcy.

I donā€™t have a heck of a lot of experience when it comes to Parker Williams. I think Iā€™ve only ever read one or two books by the author, books that from memory I know that I enjoyed them for reasons that escape me at this point in time. I also have much the same opinion of Collin Darcy as the narrator, I know that Iā€™ve heard him narrate at least a couple of audio books before but nothing immediately comes to mind. So, Iā€™ve effectively come into this book blind and with no expectations.

Overall, I found this a rather enjoyable story, although I admit that I found it a tad slow in parts. I really enjoyed the way Williams told the story, first starting in flashback before picking up and telling the story. I felt that the voice and tone of Collin Darcy really complimented the personalities of the characters. It certainly enhanced the story for me and particularly enjoyed the voice he gave one of the MCs, Scott.

I donā€™t want to go too much into the story, because I feel that the blurb tells the reader everything they need to know and I donā€™t want to spoil anything terribly. There is a lot of internal battles and self-discovery that dominate much of the book, as well as exploring the evolving relationship between the two MCs. You canā€™t say that there is no character development, because there is so much depth and complexity to these character. Unfortunately, I just felt that there were times where I was missing an emotional connection to either MC.

The story is mostly told from the POV of Scott Fogel. He starts the book by going through the events of his childhood, specifically from the moment where he had drowned in an accident before being revived, that led him to leave his family and friends behind and ran away to Chicago. Itā€™s a really sad and heart breaking start to a story, he details his trauma while he is dealing with the talent that came about after he drowned, the ability to see and communicate with ghosts/spirits. But the death of his best friends mother brings her ghost telling him he needs to go home and help his friend. And so he does.

Scott arrives on the doorstep his best friend, who he happens to love, Tim Jennessee. Adding to the stress of having to confront the people he ran away from, after not seeing any ghosts while in Chicago, the dead are once again appearing to Scott. Itā€™s a rocky start, but Timā€™s heart isnā€™t totally hardened to Scott. Itā€™s more that he spent five years worrying and grieving over his friend, unsure of what to think. Then Scott reappears.

It takes time for these guys to get on track and thatā€™s when the next major part of the plot kicks in. Scott discovers that an evil spirit has latched onto Tim and his working on making him weaker until it can make Tim his instrument to kill. But there is a mystery that begins to unravel, relating to Scottā€™s talent and Timā€™s mother. Itā€™s an interesting turn.

Iā€™m interested to see what happens next in this series and where it will take us.

Review: Lincolnā€™s Park is the first book in Parker Williams Links in the Chain series.

Iā€™m not overly familiar with Parker Williams and I have to say the mention of BDSM often concerns me in books. For me BDSM is fine as long as its written well between consenting adults instead of being used as a way to disguise literary porn as a romance, and letā€™s not go down the Fifty Shades path either. But Iā€™m so happy to report that: 1) Parker Williams had such a wonderful way with words in this book that I canā€™t wait to get onto the rest of the series. 2) BDSM is only a background plot device and I had nothing to worry about at all.

The story starts with Lincoln Merriweather. He had been a ruthless businessman who had played as hard as he worked. He was raised a spoilt, rich brat until the day he met someone who changed everything about the way he saw the world. There was love but there was never going to be a future together. And so when he found himself on his own, he opened the Park View Diner and decided that he would help as many people as he could.

The Park View Diner has been his life for the past ten years now. Noel walks in off the street, quite clearly homeless and desperate for a job that no one would give him due to his appearance. Noel is young, only in his early twenties, but heā€™s been on the streets since his parents discovered that he was gay. Lincoln is a dream come true and gives Noel so much opportunity to help him to get out of the hole he had found himself in.

Lincoln and Noel both fight the feelings which are developing as they try to figure out what is happening between them. The one thing that is clear is that they belong together, and they need each other to feel complete. Added to that Lincolnā€™s past in the form of his rich family come to threaten all that he has built. Noel is there to lend Lincoln strength, but the stress and the situation could threaten what is shaping up to be a beautiful romance.

The narration of this story was performed by Tristan James, who was an unknown narrator to me until I finished this book. James does justice to the story and characters. He captures the vortex of emotions mixed with the strength of Lincoln, while he conveys the strength, vulnerability and determination of Noel.

This is a sweet story full of heart. Itā€™s an intense emotional roller coaster, too, which just makes me so happy that I canā€™t find words for how much I loved this plot and the characters. I recommend this to people that want a sweet romance with a lot of hope. I canā€™t wait for the next book, which features Lincolnā€™s brother and look forward to a story of redemption.

Shorty’s Review: šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’– 5 Hearts

A fascinating tale about two young men, Tim and Scott, who find out they are more than they thought. Their journey is not without heartache, loss and self discovery as well as ghosts calling out for help and a an evil spirit hellbent on continuing his evil existence and work no matter the cost.

I truly loved everything about the paths that Tim and Scotty found themselves on from a young age. They had to deal with things they were too young to understand at the time. Scotty decides to run from the ghosts and travels to Chicago when he’s a young man. After five years the ghost of Tim’s mother implores him back to help Tim before something bad happens. Upon seeing Tim Scotty knows he never should have left and so begins the journey of discovering who they are and what their purpose is in life to each and others.

I loved all the side characters as they added a better understanding to the story. The serial killer ghost was a nasty piece of work to say the least. I could not believe how long he had been around for doing what he was doing. Tim has some bitter feelings for Scotty which was understandable.

The explanation of what the lock and key were was fascinating. I was swept up in the entire story from start to finish and was sad when it ended as I wanted more. The only thing I wanted to know at the end which was not revealed was what Tim did to the ghost that had been trying to possess him.

Fast paced, edge of your seat, suspenseful and intriguing beginning to a series that I am looking forward to diving into further.

Fantastic read and highly recommended.

Pixie’s Review:Ā  šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’–šŸ’– 5 Hearts

I’ll be honest, there isn’t much that I can add to Shorty’s review.

The Spirit Key is a superbly crafted paranormal story that drags you in and holds on till you get to the last page. Both Scotty and Tim are excellent characters, they have quite a bit to work through to get to on the same page. It’s far from easy and there are one or two scenes that have you gritting your teeth and praying that they can work things out.

Now, Tim proves to be possessed so I am gonna warn you that it is a truly evil spirit and it makes Tim do some things that he would never dream of doing. It is hard to read in those moments and know that the evil spirit gets whats coming to it.

Scotty has a lot to discover about his gifts and how to accept them, and Tim has a lot to overcome. Both men will need to forgive themselves for them to move forward with their relationship, and it’s not easy for either of them.

The background story really is fascinating and as we delve into the responsibility of the Lock and Key we understand just what Scotty and Tim face in the future.

I recommend this to those who adore stories of spirits, forgiveness, finding a new future, returning to the love of your life, and a very interesting ending.Ā  Ā

Review: Aaron and Sam are still struggling two years later after their sub leaves them with no word of why. The two Doms just try to live day to day when one day Sam witnesses a man collapse. He goes to help only to realize the man is badly beaten. He decides to help despite his misgivings.

Tim suffers abuse from his older brothers. He yearns to be loved and love in return when Sam helps him recover he starts having feelings for the two Doms. Through all the ups and downs with these three I felt they would be a good match. However there was so much from side and secondary characters I felt the three men’s story was not quite complete.

Aaron and Sam want to give Tim a chance but struggle because of their past and Tim as sweet as he is wants to help them heal from the pain caused by Seb’s leaving. I truly loved these men who have suffered for different reasons and wanted them to have a life full of happiness.

Great read.

Review: Rob is Alex brother. Rob also wants what Alex has. The problem is he feels angry, betrayed and alone so he has no clue how to achieve a life that he wants. I really felt sorry for Rob. Yes wanting a life is o.k. but I felt he should have focused more on himself rather than his brothers life. Maybe then he could have found what he wanted sooner.

Vic helps Rob in every way he can. Even though Rob fights him. One of Rob’s problem is his denial about his sexuality. This causes him to be angry, frustrated and lost at times. I liked the fact that these two guys were so good together despite the setbacks at ties.

Despite Rob’s reluctance Vic helps him see there is nothing wrong with him or his wants. Well written with a lot of drama this story is a great addition to the series.

Great read.

Review: Matt Bower lives his life as a recluse since he was attacked at sixteen. He’s Developed OCD and PTSD as a result. He has a daily routine and becomes panicked when said routine is interrupted or delayed. One day he sees a jogger running up the path toward his home. Since he lives out in the middle of nowhere there should be no one out there. It sends him in a panic.

Charlie is the jogger Matt sees. He’s curious about the shy recluse but knows he has to take it slow. I really liked that Charlie let Matt get comfortable with and move at his own pace. He knew this from Matt’s brother Clay. While I did not like the sneaky plan Clay came up with I also approved of the end result.

It broke my heart to watch Matt struggle with the memories of what happened to him. But, I was glad he started changing his routine after meeting Charlie. It was a gradual process that had Matt and Charlie getting together.

Great read.

Review: Jarod and Eli move to London and open a club called secrets. Wayne is a Dom who has never had a full time Sub due to his feelings for his friend Ellis. Not wanting to ruin the friendship he has never said anything to Ellis.

Ellis starts acting out of character at work almost with no control until Wayne takes matters into his own hands and introduces Ellis to Secrets, the club he frequents. From there it’s freak outs, running, to learning about Ellis’ dysfunctional family to someone manipulating him.

I loved how Wayne was patient. Ellis for his part learns to control his own life and not let family mess with him. There was no shortage of drama and hot sex in this book.

Great read.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: These are the only books I have read in this series except for the last book which I also reviewed separately. I liked the snarkiness of the subs in this bundle. They are all not without their own struggles but seem to overcome them with the help of the Doms who take the time and patience to learn who they are.

Damien’s Discipline has Dom Damien and Sub Jeff. Jeff has been horribly abused by a complete disgusting waste of human space who is prison where he belongs. As a result Jeff does not trust anyone for anything and I honestly did not blame him. Damien patiently works out a way to help Jeff with what he needs.

Make Me Soar has Dorian a self proclaimed pain slut looking for that certain Dom to take him to the place he so desperately seeks. Dom Alan learns Dorian goes to Berlin to achieve this goal and so goes after him with Leo. What they find is horrifying to say the least. But it all works out in the end.

I really enjoyed Dom of Ages a lot. Jarod is fifty and a sub. After having lost his master he is determined, in my opinion, to stay true to his master. Eli is thirty and looking for someone more mature than what he has been seeing in the clubs when he sees Jarod. After a few mishaps they get together. I loved this couple and the age difference. So many times the Sub is barely legal with a much older man so it was refreshing to read about the reverse.

Beginnings and Endings is the first book I read in this series so I was a little confused about the couples. But I still enjoyed the story about a Dom Darren and a Sub JJ who with training from Thomas learn to be what the other needs in a relationship.

Blurb: In all his relationships, Darren Fielding never found the level of intimacy he witnessed between Thomas Williams and his sub, Peter, the day of Peterā€™s ā€œrebirth.ā€ Not only that, he never realized such intimacy was possible. For two years, Thomasā€™s business card has been burning a hole in his wallet. When Darrenā€™s lover moves on, maybe itā€™s finally time to see where that card takes him.

Collars & Cuffsā€™ new barman, JJ Taylor, is really conflicted right now. He went to the club with a very specific purpose, already convinced of what heā€™d find there. Except itā€™s not what he expected at all. He certainly didnā€™t anticipate finding himself drawn to the new wannabe Dom. Nor could he have guessed the direction that attraction would lead him.

Old love, new love, vows, pain, rage, moving in, moving onā€¦. The members of Collars & Cuffs face an event that touches some of them deeply, but it will only reinforce what they already know: together they are stronger, and some bonds cannot be broken.

Review: I do not normally read books in a series out of order but this one was in the review list so I grabbed it along with many others to shorten the list. As a result this is the only book in the series I have read so far.

I loved this story yet felt at times I was missing some vital pieces of the puzzle as many characters and couples were in this well written book. Never the less I enjoyed reading about each one. I could almost feel the characters emotions as I read.

This story will stick with you long after you have finished it. My curiosity for how the other characters began has grown and one day I will read the whole series.

Great read.

Blurb: With Haven on an extended honeymoon with Sammy, bad guys around the world are breathing a lot easier. No one is better at permanently removing these lowlifes who target childrenā€”and the brutal murder of two teenage girls makes clear itā€™s past time to return to work. Havenā€™s first assignment back results in a new family member and a renewed sense of urgency to protect and avenge the innocent.

There is nothing ā€˜usualā€™ about the business of hunting predators, but when several of Havenā€™s fellow agents are killed, a pattern emerges. The hunters have become the prey, tools in a bitter vendetta for a perceived wrong.

Despite years of working alone, when the target shifts to someone unexpected, Haven calls in reinforcementsā€”a friend to stand between the family he loves and a ruthless killer. Teamwork may be the only way to win this fightā€”unless itā€™s already too little, too late.

Review: This book is part of a series and must be read in order.

Haven and Sammy have been taking it easy and Haven is wondering if heā€™ll ever be ready to return to work. Saving the innocent is something Havenā€™s been driven to do and with Sammy there to support him he knows that what he does is necessary. Thereā€™s something heading their way, someone is slowly picking agents and their family members off and itā€™s up to Haven and his friends to put a stop to a deranged killer before itā€™s too late.

Holy damn, Parker Williams has outdone himself this time around. Havenā€™s War takes a very personal turn as Haven and the guys are targeted, and even Haven wonders if he can keep them all safe.

We are compelled by the opening scenes to keep reading this story, right from the onset it grabs you by the throat and drags you along as you keep turning page after pageā€¦ all the while a sense of dread and danger build up as you realise the very real danger Haven, Sammy, Kelly and Rook face this time around.

Reading this story isnā€™t easy, Parker Williams sends us on an emotional roller coaster from happiness, despair, anger, glee and frustration. Our hearts are torn out by what Haven and Sammy face, we shake our fists at the authors sadistic muse and we feel a secret glee when the baddie gets just what he deserves.

We find ourselves fascinated by the characters as they become real in our minds, they are so fully realised that the depth to them makes their journey your journey. We see the continuing love between Haven and Sammy; their relationship is just perfect for them. And we see the growth in their little family as Kelly settles in more as the father figure.

There are some scenes that are tough to read, I mean really tough, there isnā€™t the level of danger to the innocents like in Havenā€™s Creed but by God the level of danger that heads straight Havenā€™s way is astounding. Yes there is quite a bit of blood and gore, devastating loss and senseless violence but damn this is one fantastic read.

I canā€™t delve into the story because this is really something that you need to read yourself (make sure to read Havenā€™s Creed first though), and yes there will be times that you shake your head in pure *what the fuckery* and seethe as you wonder how quickly you can hunt down the author and skin him alive (although, he does need to write more books in this series first).

I recommend this to those who love darker grittier stories, who adore damaged characters who manage to find their way in life (even if it is as a killer), who admire characters who come to life, and a shocking storyline that wonā€™t let you take a break.

Review: Once I had developed a taste for the Collars & Cuffs series I couldn’t wait for the next, andĀ Endings and BeginningsĀ delivers. What I truly enjoyed besides all the hot kink, was revisiting all of our favorite couples. Of course we get to see a new relationship develop first, that of JJ and Daren, both new to the scene, both carrying a lot of baggage that seems at first insurmountable. But with all the help of the Collars and Cuffs family, even during a crisis that haunts them all from the past, a happy relationship will spout. Ā

My favorite thing about Endings & Beginnings, is that we get just that… to revisitĀ each relationship, remember the couple’sĀ struggles, strengths and passions,Ā and join them in their heart-warming growth and promise for the future. A lot of HEA’s here! I especially love Pietro’s adventure…what a funny, heart melting surprise!!Ā

Joel Leslie’s strengths at offering each character a defines voice comes to light here, because there are so many sets of characters to follow, he does it very well, though I still get crunchy about his voice for Jarod, he’s only in his 50’s not geriatric damn it! But take that with a grain of salt, the rest of this is fun, kinky, love fest material. I recommend this entire series to anyone who loves kink with their romance!

Blurb:Ā Eli may only be 30, but he has had enough of pretend submissives. When he spies Jarod in a BDSM club, everything about the man screams submission. So what if Jarod is probably 20 years older than Eli. What does age matter, anyway? All he can see is what he’s always wanted – a sub who wants to serve.

Jarod spent 24 years with his Master before fate took him. Four years on, Jarod is still lost, so when a young Dom takes charge, Jarod rolls with it and finds himself serving again. But he keeps waiting for the other shoe to drop. Because there’s going to come a point when Eli realizes he’s a laughingstock in the club. Who would want to be seen with a 50-year-old sub?

After several missteps, Eli realizes that in order to find happiness, they will need friends who will understand. At a friend’s insistence, he visits Collars & Cuffs, where they are met with open arms. As they settle in to their new life, Eli begins to see things differently and he dares to think he can have it all. Until a phone call threatens to take it all away.

Review: This was an excellently written BDSM story with an interesting twist. Instead of all the trite hot young twink subs, we’re provided a fine mature man of 50 filling the submissive role. The introduction is a tear jerker for sure. But as we read on and get to know both partners, a true romance, not just a kinkfest, develops. Not to say there isn’t plenty of kink. We get a bit of restraint, a little pain, precision tools, and some deprivation, but it’s all well written, and flows with mutual chemistry. The support characters are a joy to read and had me smiling the whole time I listened, and that’s saying something because I was raking leaves. I’m sure my family had to wonder what the hell was going on.

Only one little thing stuck in my craw, the narrators voice for Jarod made him sound like he’s an 80 year old geezer more often than not. My hubby is 54, and I can tell you he’s no geezer, and his voice is not strained. That is the only reason I rated the narration like that. Joel does well with the narration everywhere else. Once I got beyond that I could appreciate how each character had their own distinctive voice. My favorite character in this story was actually Maggy, Jarod’s mother. Not only did the narrator makeĀ her sound just like the Dowager Countess of Downton Abbey, she’s just as wild and kinky as her son! Made me laugh out loud.Ā

If you like some bondage with your boyfriends and you’re in agreement with me that with age comes refinement and richness, then you’ll love this story. I did not read the previous books, and though they are all tied together, this read fine as a standalone.Ā Dom of AgesĀ was a pleasure to listen to, Wells and Williams make a great team, and I know I look forward to giving the rest of the series a try!

Review: I just love this story. Out of all the characters in this series and collection I relate to Artie the most. I love his sweetness yet his power. There is a lot of mystery and intrigue as he finds out more of his past. As usual we get to see more of the others. I love Laurantā€™s charisma and how he is being more human than ever helping Artie plan for his wedding and being comic relief for the deep dark storyline.

I will say the ending blew me away and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

If you like physics, vampires, mystery and intrigue this is for you!
