Review: Eric has a surprise for his lover Temple. He has finished building the dream home for Temple that both are supposed to be moving into together starting a new life for themselves. He is having Temple go on the top of the roof to drive the last nail in as a symbol of their new life together and has a surprise for him while there.

This was such a lovely story. I loved the surprise and then them losing something on top of the roof. I also liked having such a complete conclusion. The only thing is at first it seemed as if this may be part of a series and I wanted to read their story of how they met, but then again it went on and went several years in the future with the conclusion so I am not sure if it was part of a series. Whether it is or not this is a very good story. It is easy to follow and left me smiling and content.

Splitting the Difference ♥♥♥ Hearts
Singer and songwriter Dane is home in West Texas for his sister’s wedding. He’s not thrilled to be back in his childhood home, but when he meets up with his old buddy Kent, things begin to look up. Kent has changed a lot since they were kids, but Dane still thinks he’s hot, and the two find out they still have a lot in common. Will they have the time to become more than just friends?

Review: Nice short story about two childhood friends who could have been more sooner, if one hadn’t left town to become a star. Dane left his childhood hometown behind for Nashville to become a famous singer, leaving behind his friend Kent. Dane found his fame, and Kent found some trouble – I guess that’s what happens to the town “queer boy”.

Dane is back for his little sister’s wedding where he meets Dane again. While not an actual happily-ever-after type of ending, it’s enough to get an idea of what’s going on for these two hunky Texans.

Nothing But Trouble ♥♥♥♥3.5 Hearts
Bryce is an old west bank robber, on his way back to Texas for trial. When he meets up with young deputy Abel, he notices right off that the man is fascinated with him. Bryce issues a challenge that Abel can’t refuse, offering to teach the young man a thing or two about pleasure in exchange for going free. Will Abel turn out to be nothing but trouble?

Review: This story is good for what it is. It’s an illicit romp between a law man and a criminal in the Wild West. I can’t say there was anything about it that I didn’t like. I just think the length of the story meant that I knew it was going to be over pretty quickly. Also, law man and criminal, there’s rarely a happily ever after when it comes to that combo. Well, there might be a few Wild West solutions to the problem anyway, one which gives us a satisfying conclusion.

Acting Out ♥♥♥♥4 Hearts
Bull rider and adrenaline junkie Colby is mid-jump in his ATV when his old rooming buddy Sean drives back into his life, sending him flying off his vehicle. Sean wants Colby to come to Hawaii for a charity event. Colby agrees to attend, but only if he and Sean can share a room again, just like in the old days.

Can these two rough-riding cowboys recapture a piece of the past, or can they do even better this go-round?

Review: An enjoyable, sexy short story. My only problem is the short part of it all. Colby Dannis is a bull rider, although he’s partial to any daring stunt to get the adrenaline pumping. Sean Landry is Colby’s former friend and lover. As said in the blurb, Sean wants Colby to attend an event in Hawaii.

Colby and Sean’s past gives this story a boost of emotion and tension. The chemistry between the couple is great. The stark difference in character of the two men was a drawing point and what made them as a couple. But as I said, it was just too short for my liking although the ending will satisfy most.

Crash and Burn ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts
Danny’s career in Motocross is over, thanks to a bad pair of knees, and maybe too much hard living. When his sponsors and friends take off, all he has left is his pain in the butt assistant, Todd. He’s never seen Todd in the light he does now, but it may be too late. Todd thinks Danny has a new life, one he has no place in. Can they see how much they need each other before they crash and burn?

Review: It’s hard not to feel sorry for motocross rider, Danny, in this short story. He’s the classic description of lonely celebrity. When the goings tough, he has no one he can turn to, expect for his PA Todd. Danny is wallowing in self-pity and the only person he has to help is Todd.

At first, Todd just comes across as though he is part of the background, or part of the furniture, which is good because that is how Danny sees him. However, it is also clear from what he has to put up with, that Todd is very understanding, compassionate, loyal and caring. Sounds like the perfect man to me!

All I can say is that this is an excellent story. If adrenaline junkies are your thing, then this short story is for you.

Mind in the Middle ♥♥♥♥3.5 Hearts
Tyler Anderson is on track for winning it all in the bull riding championships this year, if he can just get over being dumped by another rider. Veteran rider Andy West wants to see Ty succeed, and he knows all about how fickle Tyler’s ex can be. When the two of them get together, Andy is determined to shore up Tyler’s confidence, and show the young champ that some men can be faithful. Will Tyler win it all in the end?

Review: Tyler Anderson is definitely having a rough patch in his career, despite the fact that he is so close to winning the bull riding championships. He’s had an injury and a bad draw, but he’s also having man problems. Enter Andy West, a real sweetie who really just starts looking out for Tyler as a friend.
A really quick read, I can’t say that there is a true HEA – that is left to the imagination. It’s a bit of a hot romp between two hot cowboys.

Blurb: Though everybody’s afraid of something, fear comes in all shapes and sizes. For Daniel, it’s the fear of losing his job in the middle of a recession, which is why he doesn’t dare stand up to his boss and her unreasonable demands on his personal time, even though he knows she’s ruining any chance of him ever finding a steady boyfriend. Until a chance encounter, far from home, makes him rethink his options.

To look at Tom, you wouldn’t think that anything could scare him, whether it be bosses, big brothers and their practical jokes, or finding almost naked burglars asleep on his sofa. Nevertheless, Tom does have a fear. Though it’s not a physical one, it preys on his mind enough to keep him away from home every Halloween. Until Daniel turns up in his life, and together they realize that fear is a lot easier to face when you’re not alone.

Review: Oh, wow! This story has the elements for my type of book and thankfully, after reading, it didn’t disappoint! Daniel is trapped working with a bitch for a boss and his horrible boss has manipulated it so that she sends him off to a northern England town (from London, I assume) on Halloween night, when he was meant to be spending the night with his sister and niece. I can’t say that Daniel is overly happy and he is probably a bit lonely. His job is not at all conducive for a social life with his boss constantly pressuring him to work.

I’m not sure if this is a ghost story or time travel story. Regardless, Dan meets the charming Thomas when he finds himself in a spot of trouble and feeling pretty miserable. Then there are the twists! I won’t say anymore so I don’t give away anything. The plot is simple and executed without too much fanfare, which is what helped me fall in love with the characters and the plot.

But suffice it to say, this is a great read if you love a good ghost story! It is creepy and sweet and, even, sad at one point.

Put a Ring on It by Sean Michaels ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts
Billy is hoping that his boy Montana wants to step up and get married like his friends have. He brings it up at the anniversary party but Montana doesn’t seem as interested as Billy had hoped.

This was a hot and sexy romp with a bit of D’s relationship and some worry between two men that have been together for a long time. I liked the fact that it showed both the emotional angst of taking the next step. My only problem with the story was that to me the dialogue seemed to be a bit juvenile at times, but having said that it was a hot and sexy story and I loved the end! A very creative and unique engagement ring.

Tony is helping his sister with her wedding and it’s a living nightmare. She makes Bridezillas look tame. His lover Josh is helping him handle the stress the best he can. He also would like to marry Tony but isn’t sure if Tony will want to after this wild event.

I really liked this story. I loved Tony and Josh and how they handled the nightmare of Tony’s sister’s wedding. There was a bit of twist, but it all worked out in the end. I would love to see more of Tony and Josh, though I will say I am not sure I saw the significance of the Tiara, to me that sort of went over my head, unless we knew more about Tony.

Things really seem to be looking up when at the club he has a hook-up with a sexy man that is until he meets the groom.

Everything is going good then the flowers don’t show up throwing one of the grooms into a panic Garth tries to console his friend while Doug finds out the problem.

This story was short and sweet. I will have to say I kept expecting more. The main focus was on the wedding and I felt the thing with Doug and Garth was thrown in as an afterthought. I would have loved to seen more with them.

Daniel and Kyle have returned home to get married. Kyle’s parents aren’t happy at all about this. Not only because Kyle is gay but that Daniel is 9 years older.

This story was about the conflict between Kyle and his family and a little about Daniel and his. To me it seemed like it was a part of a series so I had a hard time relating to any of the characters. I will say I would really like to see Daniel and Kyle’s story and how they got here. I love older men/younger men relationships.

Review: A dramatic little story with an interesting, if a bit uncomfortable, twist!

Promises Made, Memories Kept is a dramatic return home, after the death of a father who couldn’t accept Harry as an open gay son. The return home is painful, regretful, and a bit twisted and even spooky.

The writing is smooth and well-edited. They plot a bit of a cross between Poe, Shakespeare, and Homer, and the sexual content completely secondary if a bit uncomfortable.

A worthwhile read for a short story, and a very strong plot twist!

Murder in Torbaydos

by

Ian James Krender

Old houses hide secrets, sometimes dark ones.

In the 1970’s, London based family, Marjorie, Stanley and their theatrically bent son fall in love with a dilapidated Victorian seaside villa.  Dreaming of a better life by the sea, they transform the property into a luxury guesthouse, ignorant of the tragic events that occurred there at the beginning of the century.  They discover that their guests are not the only other occupants in the building.

The souls trapped within the house offer the temptation of wealth and power, but all come with a deadly price.  Stanley, supported by his ambitious wife, enters political office. Marjorie will stop at nothing to achieve her goals for her husband, no matter who gets in the way.

Thirty years later, an affluent gay couple, Jez and Graham, purchase the hotel, which now unoccupied has once again fallen into disrepair.  They are blissfully unaware of the building’s grisly past.  Jez falls under the influence of the spirits within the house, rapidly achieving fame, fortune, and a life beyond his wildest imagination, but the price is ultimately the corruption of his very soul.

Bound by a common destiny, both Marjorie and Jez’s fates lie inextricably intertwined across time and connected to the house.  Their gruesome realisation is that death is not necessarily a release.

Blurb: When their college dorms are shut down, Aiden and his best friend, Bobby, find themselves without a roof over their heads. Rather than face leaving school, they take up temporary residence in their local gay-friendly bar, FUBAR, along with a handful of other down-on-their-luck students.

Faced with the possibility of being expelled if they don’t secure permanent housing, the boys hatch a plot to put on a strip show to earn the cash necessary to bring a donated house up to code, and establish themselves as a fraternity on campus.

In the midst of preparing for the big show, things get complicated when Aiden realizes his feelings for Bobby go deeper than mere friendship-with-benefits.

Review: This was a difficult one to pin down a rating. I liked it, but I didn’t love. The story is both sweet and sexy and unconventional. I really wanted to get more involved with the story, but something wasn’t quite there to keep my attention captured.

It is the story of college kids using their ingenuity to somehow stay in classes and find a new place to live when they lose their on campus housing. Aiden and Bobby, the two students spearheading the scheme at one of the local gay bars called FUBAR, have been friends for a couple of years through their previous job that helped them pay the bills. FUBAR is owned by an ex-marine called Hank, who has also an intriguing story to tell.

The main storyline featuring Bobby and Aiden is entertaining and the ending is quite pleasing. We are also given a glimpse at a number of characters from their classes that had also resided in the dorms, but are a bit fleeting in some cases. However, as I just said, Hank the bar owner has an even more intriguing story. It’s hard not to feel sorry for Hank as his background is uncovered and quickly his past catches up with him.

But quite honestly, I was left wanting to know more about Hank and his man, even with the loose ends tied up at the end of the story.

Blurb: Tattooing might have once been Liam’s passion, but he left it all behind along with ugly memories when he went to college. When his uncle’s health fails, Liam must come home at last to say his goodbyes. His days are spent at the hospice, leaving his nights to rake over the past. To fill those empty hours, he takes a job at Great Sin Ink.

The close-knit friendship of the workers there both intrigues and shakes Liam, who has spent the last four years keeping everyone at arm’s length. Neither Deb, the no-nonsense piercer, nor Goose, a manic tattoo artist, will let Liam get away with his isolationist ways for long.

If it were just those two, Liam might have stood a chance — but there’s also Ace, the owner of Great Sin. He hires Liam despite a thin resume, and that is a kindness Liam can’t forget. The two start up a tentative friendship, learning about each other as the summer days melt into each other. Slowly, Liam reveals a tender heart underneath the wall of quotes he uses to keep everyone out. Unfortunately, life doesn’t stand still, and both Liam and Ace have hard struggles before them that might break them up before they can even get together.

Review: Liam has had a pretty screwed up childhood. His parents were put into prison for fraud when he was young. His uncle by marriage took him in and was more of a father to him than his own ever was. Now he is home to say goodbye as his uncle slowly dies in hospice. To help him cope at night he gets a job at a local tattoo parlor. Liam gets drawn in by the three people he works with. But it is Ace that really gets him to open up about his past and let some of it go.

Ace is a small package but he definitely comes packed with strength. He is nine years older than Liam and has had his share of life issues. He looks anything like a stand up guy, but he is a very honorable man. He takes Liam in his shop even though Liam does not have much experience. He and has his crew make Liam feel welcome and make him a part of their group. The two of them bond over their individual family issues. As he gets to know Liam, he makes him feel safe in trusting him and opening up.

Liam and Ace work well together. They are very believable MCs. Liam has kept people at arms length for a long time because of a really screwed up relationship he had at 16 years old. He has not let another man get close enough to him again. By having a friendship first, they learn each other before even entering a sexual relationship.

They are both attracted to each other, but I liked the slow build up better. It worked with the with type of personalities Liam and Ace had. Liam needed to trust Ace, before he could even think about sex with him. Ace never pushed for anything. He let things take the time needed. This pays off for both of them in the long run.

This book is about love, friendship, and trust helping to heal wounds. This was not just a romance about Liam and Ace. There are also the secondary characters who help with the healing of Liam. They don’t leave him alone in his corner. They drag him into their lives. They give Liam a new support system, a new family. Liam comes to rely on them just as much as he does Ace. All of them together make me wish I could have a family as cool and unconventional as they are.

There is a bit of angst but honestly, it just makes it all that much better. From start to finish I was drawn in and loving each moment.
This was beautifully written. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a heartwarming story with some well thought out characters and situations.

Isaac Braden spends most of his time being a rich recluse but every so often, he’s introduced to someone new when he’s summoned… a blood sacrifice. And tonight Jory Daniels has been chosen to be that sacrifice.

In a satanic ritual summoning gone bad, Isaac finds himself eternally bound to Jory. He has to have the man’s blood in order to survive. But when Jory wants something in return, can Isaac submit enough to allow it or will his demon nature take over and cause him to lose the best thing that ever happened to him?

Review: It’s hard not to be a fan of Stormy Glenn. This is one of her darker offerings compared to her other works. In fact, a couple of chapters are downright brutal. However, after that it becomes a very hot, sensual ride for the demon Isaac and his blood sacrifice, Jory.

I read this when it first came out some years ago (some may remember it as part of the Bite Here, Too anthology), and still it took me some time to think of the appropriate words for this review.

The story provides an interesting angle on a demon story. There are elements of the more traditional horror based demon stories – as I said, the opening chapters which involve rituals are brutal. There is also the underlying moral, for lack of a better word, about free-will which makes it interesting and could have provided more drama if given the time or words.

In addition to this, the actual characters themselves didn’t grab me, although Isaac really did have the beginnings of really getting my attention with his not being the run of the mill demon – good, bad, or otherwise.

The twist at the end was cool, but I felt that more was needed and so in the end it felt like it was no big deal. I don’t like to be left hanging! One final thing that bugged me, there were two characters in the beginning, which are Jory’s friends and really took up a lot of thought in Jory’s mind. They just disappeared! And I was not placated by the throwaway line of Jory asking Isaac about their well-being and Isaac’s assurances.

The closest I could pin point in my mind, was that almost everything was limited by the word count and so could not evolve as much as it had the potential to. That being said, perhaps the plot was too complicated for the word count (particularly the final twist). I’m not sure.

I enjoyed it but at the same time, I was left feeling a little disappointed, but since this is, the only Stormy Glenn story that has left me like this, I’m glad to say this isn’t a general look on her wonderful body of work.

BLURB: Archetypal English toff William “Liam” Barnes is in big trouble. He’s borrowed money from Irish gangster Davey McGrath with one simple condition. Get a special prism from Matthew Luttrell – seducing Matthew if he has to – and bring it back. But the prism isn’t with Matthew, and Liam makes a decision he can’t undo, meaning he’s twenty thousand pounds in debt to a vicious gangster and has no idea where to find the prism.

That is, until he meets stoic Irishman Jim Henvey, the real owner of the prism, who has a cruel Demi-goddess of a mother on the warpath for him. Liam and Jim quickly find themselves tied up in each other’s messes, and with more than just the mortal world out to get them, they must find their way out of a battle between dimensions and still have time to figure out their feelings for each other. Or will they just sink deeper into trouble?

REVIEWER: Prime

REVIEW: I have to admit, just the cover and the blurb had me intrigued. Starting the story, we dive right into the action, where Liam is desperately trying save his hide by finding a mysterious prism after borrowing money.

The tone of book was immediately dark and I found myself concerned whether or not I would find sympathy for Liam. One thing is for certain, Liam has himself in a right proper mess. Although I wasn’t entirely impressed with Liam, but this has nothing to do with how he was written, it was the character himself. He was entirely too selfish, but that was the reason why he got into the situation he found himself in and I enjoyed watching him grow up as his mistakes just keep coming back to bite him. He becomes desperate to make amends. It is in his romance with Jim that we see the majority of Liam’s development.

On the other side of the story is Jim. We are introduced to him quickly. He has complicated family life, so it seems. He seems to be keeper to his fifteen-year-old twin sisters, who seem intent on getting Jim in trouble when it comes to their mysterious, evil mother. He also has the mysterious prism, which Liam is hunting for. Jim develops as a character as Jim learns that he can indeed trust Liam, despite the trouble that Liam has brought into their lives by going after the prism. Really, Jim is extremely generous when it comes to Liam.

Since the story began in the middle of action, the momentum took a little while to build sufficiently (at least in my mind), but that was because there was numerous pieces of information which we needed to know before going too far into the story. I can’t help but be impressed by all the threads that the authors use which links Liam and Jim. This includes numerous minor characters, including Jim’s family.

In between all that, there is the mysterious, mystical prism. Ultimately, the authors have managed to weave a pleasing tapestry, with an action packed ending all the loose ends tied up for a quick happily ever after.

However, some things had me thinking. I find myself wondering why Matthew was given such a prominent role in the blurb when he is barely in the book. It is important to point out his character’s appearance does play a pivotal role to Liam’s decisions that sets him on his path that leads to Liam. Another point, the prism that is key to the entire story, I liked how it remained mysterious by only vague allusions and limited displays of its power, which is the complete opposite for me normally because I’m usually big on wanting details.

To be honest, the story didn’t capture my imagination at the beginning and certainly didn’t get me emotionally. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t particularly like it either and for that reason, I had trouble figuring out my rating, which in my mind lies somewhere between 2.5 and 3 (I wonder if anyone would appreciate a 2.75 middle ground rating?).

Perhaps the reason for this there is too much intrigue, it pisses me off and I’m liable to yell at the page. I realise that this will be a tough read for those who don’t like too much and complex intrigue. This is a proper mystery, a well-written story bound with a number of elements.

Regardless of my feelings, it had me intrigued until the end.

Review: This is the second part of the trilogy and trust me you need to start with book one.

It is a very strange story but a good one all the same. It is very hard to understand unless you read the first book because trust me you will get lost in it. It captured my attention when I opened the book and kept it all the way to the end. To understand why Toby does everything just to get his other back is amazing. I absolutely loved these two men.

Toby lost his lover to the King Jester but he planned to get his man back. There is a lot of danger coming at them, but with the first fight, he had lost part of his arm and his man so he would do everything in his power to get him back. That is where the King made his mistake. He is a powerful King, but when he took Toby’s mate Marley, he failed to understand that love conquers all.

I loved the way Toby will go to all lengths to get the man he loves back. It shows how much strength this man has. Even willing to go without his families help was what he would have done. There is so much danger for them that it makes me wonder how they will survive it all.

I would definitely recommend reading this book. It will give you sexy men, loving friends, a fight to the end, lots of danger, a crazy ass King, a twisted coyote and a love that no understands. It was told with such a serious tone that will have your stomach twisted in knots wondering if they would survive. I was on the edge of my seat throughout the whole story.

Georgia Knights

by

Julia Talbot

When anthropologist Georgia Cortez heads to rural Georgia from New Mexico, she’s on the trail of a juicy old legend. Haley Falls seems like just the place for old-time ghost stories and spooky hauntings, but she’s on the hunt for something far rarer, a survival of an old sect of medieval knights.

Caid and Alton are Haley Fall natives, and they used to be best friends. A falling out years ago ended in them not speaking, even after Alt left town and returned older, if not wiser. They unite when it comes to a nosy scholar like Georgia picking apart their heritage, and putting their whole town in danger. When boys meet girl, though, they decide wooing is far better than scaring the lady off, and they set about distracting Georgia in the best way.

While their three way romance heats up, so does the intrigue in Haley Falls, until the three of them are facing a danger far worse than falling in love with each other.

“Raising Cain” by Winnie Jerome ♥♥ 2 Hearts
This doesn’t happen to me often but I just didn’t get this story. It focused so much on the gaming that it felt the shifter part was just thrown in there. I felt it wasn’t very cohesive and I never really was unable to connect to either character. However, if you are a big gaming fan you may like this story a lot. It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

Review: Steven Everett knew he was taking a risk falling in love with Aidan, when Aidan always loved Sammy. So when the two decide to pursue a relationship, Steven is devastated. He takes solace in comforting Aidan’s ex boyfriend Michael. He was brutally attacked on campus just days before Aidan and Sammy were.

Steven is so overwhelmed with the grief he’s feeling over losing Aidan as a lover, that it takes him a little while to recognize what he’s feeling for Michael is attraction. But Michael hurt Aidan by cheating on him, and now he’s lying in a hospital bed fighting for his life after being bashed by some of their fellow students, that are seemingly getting away with it.

Michael has regretted hurting Aidan from the moment he was doing it. The drugs warped his mind and way of thinking while he was getting high, and cost him the man he loved. Now he’s lying in a hospital bed facing losing his sight and being nurtured, nursed and befriended by the man who Aidan hurt when he chose to love another. Well, aren’t they just a pair. Michael latches onto the kindness that Steven shows him immediately, and it doesn’t take long before the two are sneaking kisses and so much more in the dark early morning hours at the hospital.

But Michael’s wounds are not just on the surface. Beaten and threatened by his own father as he grew up, rejected and ridiculed by his peers at school, all because of his sexuality. And Steven hides his fair share of grief, over losing Aidan, over issues of being able to trust Michael because he cheated and he’s a recovering addict. Steven wants to love someone and just be loved in return so badly. But there is more at stake here than just these two young men’s hearts, a secret Steven has that could destroy any chance of a relationship between them.

I’m so happy that Doyon went back and gave us Steven’s story. If you’ve read Loving Aidan, you will quickly realize this book starts while that story while still unfolding, with Steven in the hospital with Michael right after the bashing. I really enjoyed seeing how they opened up to each other, and over time shared every secret they each held tight, to eventually be able to truly love one another. I really felt like I was right there in the room while Steven fell for the vulnerable, broken and beautiful man who lay in that bed.

The story was very dialogue driven, more so than just about any book I’ve ever read, so there is a lot of conversation and truths that Steven and Michael share while they are slowly falling in love. Where the story took a turn for me was at the end when Steven took Michael home to meet his family. I seriously wanted to take Steven’s mother and brother and bang their heads together a couple of times. And Michael’s father at the hospital, that man was infuriating! The only thing that made that worth wild was the end result.

There were a couple of times that certain actions or reactions didn’t make sense to me, or threw me off, as if they didn’t fit the rest of the content of the story. But overall, this was a very intriguing story. I loved how it played out parallel to Loving Aidan, so we got to see things that were just hinted at in that book.

If you like stories about figuring out who you are, not finding yourself because Steven and Michael have already done that, what they needed was to find each other, and figure out who they were, then you will really enjoy this book. I suggest reading Loving Aidan first though so you’ll be familiar with the characters and their world.

Blurb: Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. When Tanner goes on vacation to get away from school and work, he learns this the hard way.
Though he hates water, Tanner agrees to join his older brother and friends away from home for two weeks at the beach. There he meets Chase, a gorgeous local who offers to show him the sights and introduce him to what he’s been missing. Against his better judgment, Tanner agrees. He’s given the gift of pearls, and his life is quickly turned upside-down as Tucker’s friend (and Tanner’s long-time crush) Jimmy starts acting strangely.

Tanner learns that there are things in the water that go beyond human understanding, and he’s left with two major questions: What is a siren? And why is it hunting Tanner?

Pearls in the Darkness contains dark themes that some readers might find disturbing.

Review: Tanner is on vacation with his older brother Tucker and several of his brother’s friends, including Jimmy, at the beach… to spite the fact he can’t stand the water. At a small cafe one afternoon he meets Chase who woos him, shows him the sites and gives him a string of pearls as a gift. When he finally meets up with Tucker, Jimmy and the guys, Tanner learns he’s been gone for several hours when it felt like only a few.

Jimmy is acting stranger than normal, Tucker is being very overprotective, and Chase seems to find him in his dreams. Tanner hates the water, so why does he find himself not only in the water, but being taken by Chase, who was not who he presented himself to be at all. Turns out that Tanner’s biggest bully that has always picked on him because he’s gay, Jimmy, is actually in love with him. But now Tanner has gone and gotten himself claimed by Chase who means only to harm him.

I’m so confused! I read this thing twice. I still don’t know what exactly is going on. I think Chase was like a dark fairy or a demon, the pearl fits with fairy because you aren’t supposed to take gifts from them. And then Jimmy who was brazenly homophobic at the start, but only to hide his own feelings toward Tanner? And then Tanner seems to forgive him about five seconds later because he can kiss. What?!

I tried to like this story, I love fantasy and stories about the Fae, but this book left me nothing but confused and bewildered. Read at your own risk.

Where the Men are Men by Julia Talbot ♥♥♥
I have to say I felt a bit lost here in the beginning. I believe this must be from a series. The sexual tension between the characters was very good. I would have liked this to have been longer and perhaps mention if it’s from a series and what it is. I could not get a good feeling of either character. I did feel however, it was a good premise to a hot sexy romance. This book can be bought by itself:

Sage and Sand” by Yolande Kleinn, ♥♥♥♥♥
Bram work at his father’s stage, normally in at the desk. His father decides he is man enough to go on the road so he is sent on a three day dangerous Journey. I can’t say very much more without a spoiler but WOW this one is really good. And hot. The action is so well depicted I could see the guns a blazing and the sex …well its smokin!! This is definitely one to read especially if you like the old west, gunfights, and steamy hot first time mansex!
You can by this book alone:

Devilry Done by Missouri Dalton ♥♥♥♥♥
Lucas has a secret his brother found out and is blackmailing him. Actually, Lucas has several secrets. Lucas sets a dangerous plan in motion that he hopes gets his brother out of his hair for good, and perhaps even brings him more. He sets himself up in danger and knows that Ambrose will come, but he isn’t sure what he will do. There is lots of action set in this old west story, with a bit of a twist, I am not sure if you would call it paranormal or not. I’ll let you decide when you meet Lulu. Overall, it’s a very beautiful story. I loved it! You can by this one by itself at:

Eight Seconds by Nicole McCormick. ♥♥♥♥
Eight seconds are yet another very lovely story. It is a modern-day bull-riding story as the title suggests. Birch is good at hanging on for his 8 seconds but isn’t all wrapped up in his notoriety and status. Lucas is a bullfighter and one of the best. Both men share an attraction with each other. Can they be more than friends? I found this to be a very beautifully written saga of two men on a path of friendship and perhaps even more. I would love to see a full story about these guys! BA Tortuga’s Hoping for a Good Break ♥♥♥♥
Alan is out on a rodeo and one of his friends has a fall and is critically injured. Alan realizes how short life is and hopes Colby will welcome him home.
This one is a real tearjerker. My only issue was it read as if it was part of a series or something. I would have loved to know why Alan thought Colby wouldn’t welcome him home and more about each character, having said that the story was absolutely amazing and if it is part of a series, I want the books!

Asher, James, Glenn, and Gregg by Penn E. Loaffer♥♥♥♥
This story is quite different form the others so far. It is about four young men in college. At first, I was a bit shocked. Asher after being so devastated from a breakup and balking so hard at meeting Gregg, as soon as they met, they headed to bed. The sex was pretty hot though. Then there was a major twist! I cried my eyes out. This is definitely one worth reading.

Showstring by Jon Keys ♥♥♥♥
Ben is showing some cattle at a fair to get buyers interested in his father ranch. Jayden has always dreamed of working on a ranch or with animals and is infatuated with the animals. And the attraction to Ben goes against everything his father has instilled in him.

This is a very lovely story of a man supressing his desires in so many ways and conforming to what his father wants of him. I loved the descriptions of the animals and the budding love between Ben and Jayden. It’s beautiful and sweet. I will definitely be looking for more of Jon Keys books.

Come Undone by Mychael Black, ♥♥♥♥♥
And what a finale! I am a big Mychael Black fan and this story was amazing!
Bryce is an older man and has a small ranch out in the woods where he is away from the hustle f the world. He is in town when a young man is thrown into his life(literally) he doesn’t know why but he takes the young man out for breakfast and once he hears the man’s story he finds him-self offering a lot more.

Blurb: Jesse Putnam, once a union cavalryman and now a California rancher, has no one but himself to blame when he realizes the foreman assigned to help him investigate the problems on the Southern Californian acres of a railway baroness has a face that’s all too familiar. Even on the Barbary Coast of 1869, unknown vaqueros who share Jesse’s inclinations are few and far between, and Jesse didn’t even try to resist the heated attraction between them. But he never counted on his nameless companion of the previous night turning out to be Wardley Bridger, now his colleague and fellow investigator.

Bridger, at peace with his nature in a way Jesse is not, proves to be a calm and canny companion as they travel south and start sorting through a mystery that stretches out from the dusty Pueblo of Angles into the brush-covered hills of Ranchero Los Robles. But as the ghost rider’s threat overshadows both them and the ranchers of Los Robles, can Jesse still learn that friendship might merge with his shadowed hungers to gift him with a kind of bond he has never even dared to desire?

Review: Now this is what I call a romance and I absolutely loved it.

This beautiful historical follows Jesse and Bridger. Jesse has finally settled in his life as a rancher after the trauma left behind the war. What he hasn’t settled in yet is his “perverse cravings.” Jesse finds it hard to calm the storm inside him that come after each encounter with men like him.

After one such night with a certain vaquero Jesse still finds the need in him to delude himself that the said vaquero might’ve been a bit reluctant to leave him. But such notions are for fools and Jesse doesn’t indulge much.

When the next day brings him face to face with his nameless man again but this time under the name Bridger and fellow traveler/investigator in a shadowy business for his relatives, Jesse has to gather all his strength to maintain a polite façade. It is the first time ever for him to see the same man twice and something deep inside start sing-songing that Bridger is no ordinary man.

I loved this story as short as it was it was lovely and so very romantic. This pair was, oh dear, so lovable. Bridger a steady character who has no real worries in life is the opposite of Jesse, who is skittish as a colt. In the most calm way possible Bridger slowly worms his way into Jesse’s heart, who never until that moment has believed he could find intimacy in a man’s presence, arms and life. I adored this pair. I loved the way they steadily went from the one-night-stand to companions to friends and finally lovers in an era that had no good news for “sodomites.”

I also loved the story; it showed just how dangerous that time was for people who were different and how easily rascals could overwhelm your life and threaten your existence. The writing itself was divine for me. Written in a language that could be considered of that time, all I saw was roses and blue skies and white puffy clouds while reading this. Did I say this was quite a romantic read? Loooved it.

And after going all pinky little hearts for this book I feel compelled to recommend this to you. If you love historical romances, featuring sexy cowboys than this is the book for you.

Midnight Rodeo: Homecoming

(Anthology)

by

B.A. Tortuga, Kiernan Kelly & Julia Talbot

What happens when rodeos start to get too tough for humans to compete in? Midnight Rodeo, of course, where supernatural creatures like shifters and vampires work for the prize money, and for the awe of their audience.

In Welcome to the Pack by BA Tortuga, when head bullfighter Denton is killed by a demon bull, his twin, Denver, comes back to take his place. Denver was gone for years, working mundane rodeos and missing his twin. He’s not sure the pack can heal him since the other bullfighters challenge Denver at every turn. All except Blaine, who’s an outcast himself, and who knows Denver is like no one he’s ever met.

In Oklahoma Rain by Kiernan Kelly, psychic Blaze scouts locations for the rodeo company, Darque and Knight, where he finds another psychic talent, Zack, who’s hot as the Fourth of July. Zack is complicated, though, thanks to his sidekick, Mikey, a damaged kid. Blaze invites the pair back to the rodeo, but not everyone is as happy as Blaze to have them there.

In Big Bear, Little Bear, by Julia Talbot, bear shifter Ben is returning to the rodeo after a long injury recovery. Big bear shifter Ozzie is the barrel man and clown, and he’s been waiting for Ben to come back to the big show. But is Ben ready to ride again, let alone be the lover Ozzie is ready to take on?
