Blurb: Rory Donovan’s life is a hot mess. His marriage is failing and he’s in intensive psychotherapy, working through the unfortunate side effects of memories from a childhood trauma. The only thing good in his life right now is his job—teaching photography to gifted high school students.
Harbor Patrol Officer Bennett Foster is co-parenting his teenage daughter with his high school best friend Jessie. When he meets Addison’s teacher and realizes they’ve met before, he can’t get the sexy stranger out of his head.
Striking up a sexual-tension-filled friendship, together they must help an angsty teenager deal with a dying friend. Bennett must keep his little family from falling apart while Rory struggles to come to terms with his new reality. Somewhere along the way, most unexpectedly…love happens.

Review: I was completely blown away by this book! I absolutely loved it! And you know what? I haven’t even read the first two books – though you can be damn sure that I want to now!!! I think I’ve used up my exclamation marks quota, but to paraphrase singer/song writer Nick Cave: I use three exclamation marks because it’s awesome.
So that being said, I am sure that this series is meant to be read in order, but there is enough background on the couples from the two previous books that I was in no way confused about the characters or the past storylines that were referred to. Namely, one MC Rory was actually married around the time of book 1 (maybe, could be book 2) and this is the continuation of his story.
Just as the blurb suggests, Rory Donovan’s life is a hot mess. He has a great career as a photography teacher and you can tell that his passion is teaching his art. His personal life, however, is not so great. His marriage is falling apart and he has been seeing a psychiatrist since before his marriage about “performance” issues.
The poor guy just really needs to find himself and that is why from the start I love Rory, was sympathetic to his plight and I just wanted him to have a HEA just like his besties have.
On the other hand we have Bennett Foster, he’s a Coast guard officer and while he is generally out he doesn’t advertise the fact that he’s gay, especially at work. When he was a teen, he and his best friend, Jessica, fooled around which resulted in their now emo teenage daughter, Addison. He’s a great guy, supportive of Jessie and a great father. The fact that he’s a hot coast guard is just the icing on the cake.
As minor characters go, I have to give a special mention to Addison and Jessica. I love the relationship between Ben and his BFF, which never fell apart despite the fact they had a daughter. Jessie always knew and accepted that Ben was gay.
As for Addison, she’s that special character that kind of gives us those important life lessons you get throughout books. She’s a dark horse, that’s for sure, and beneath all that teenage emo personality and going through her own difficult time, she certainly taught the guys (and the reader) a lot.
This is one of those books that I would give a blanket recommendation. If you like your romance with: sweetness, angsty/emotive kids, a character on a journey of self discovery, wonderful BFF’s, HEAs – there is even a sprinkling of illness and danger, I think it’s safe to say you’ll get a lot of enjoyment out of this one.
