Blurb: Can their love overcome the danger coming their way, or are they doomed to die?

Georgio is the third son in a powerful mob family, but he has never agreed with their violent or illegal ways, so he joins the resistance in an attempt to right the wrongs that his family has done. But, by doing so, he puts himself at great risk of getting caught. And if he is, his older brothers would have no problem ordering him executed, their sibling or not.

Tito is a runner for the family. While he hates the gang, he has a sick brother at home to take care of, so he has to take the job because it pays so well. The last thing Tito expects is to form an attachment to Georgio.

While Georgio tries to deny his feelings for Tito, he finds himself drawn to him as well. But, if they were to be caught together, they could be killed on the spot. Will their love be able to survive so many obstacles? Or can they find a way to happiness?

Review: This is book three of the Unconventional Chicago series and I have to tell you that it was one hell of a great read. These books can be read as a standalone story.

I was amazed with this story even though it had me tasting for more. It left me wanting to know more about what was going on and wanting to know if Georgio and Tito make it out alive. It left me hanging with that. The characters were not only beautifully written but there was so much strength in them all.

Tito needed money to keep his brother safe and healthy. His brother needed a doctor and soon. He knew the only way to get that kind of money was to become a runner for a mob boss. What he had not expected was Georgio. Georgio was one of the brothers who ran the mob business.

However, he was not a bit like them. He wanted a way out and he knew he wanted Tito with him. Talk about surprises when Tito and his brother go to the resistance and find Georgio there along with his best friend. They had a plan to get out, now if only they could stay alive to do it.

I couldn’t believe that there are people out there that actually go through this, but you know there is. I loved how Georgio tried to keep his people safe, even if it meant betraying his brothers.
I loved this story. It gave me the perfect amount of angst, danger, pain, love, and fear. It gave me everything I could want in a story and in fact, it gave me even more.

I would recommend reading this book, you won’t be disappointed. My attention was caught with the first sentence and kept it there all the way to the end.

Blurb: Steve and Brent Perez are married shifters. In the world of paranormals some might think that’s odd, considering both men are wolves, but it’s the norm for these two. From a very early age, they knew they were meant to be together, despite what their homophobic pack might believe. When the anguish of hiding their mating from friends and family becomes too much, they leave home, traveling around the world, performing on stage. While dancing at the Silver Bullet, they are stunned to realize that their mating isn’t complete.

When two gorgeous go-go dancers start checking Jayson North out, he’s not sure what to think. Used to being flirted with in his position as a bartender, Jayson tries to keep his distance. Not an easy feat when the two performers draw him like a magnet. When he learns that they’re mates, Jayson is confused. Since working at the shifter-owned bar, he’s learned one major rule—mates are sacred.

So why are these two wolves checking him out? But someone else thinks that Steve and Brent belongs to him and he’s more than willing to get rid of Jayson to keep the two shifters to himself. Mating Jayson is the easy part. Keeping him alive may take more strength than two shifters have.

Note: This book contains double anal penetration.

5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: Fantastic story with drama, action, suspense, danger, and love. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Jayson, a human, Brent and Steve, wolf shifters who are mates and are married. I didn’t care for how jealous the fox shifter was of Jayson or the lengths he went to because he wanted Steve and Brent for himself. It just shows no matter how well you think you know someone, you really don’t know them at all.

I felt sorry for Steve and Brent’s friends Casey, Zach and Blake for believing what Tayte told them and helping him lure Jayson away. I was glad though that with Jayson’s help they all were forgiven except for Tayte.

Awesome story. Sexy and passionate sex scenes between Jayson, Brent, and Steve added spice to an intense book.

Review: Nick is a very bright young man living with daily abuse at the hands of his father until one day he kills him protecting his sister. His life turns for the better when Gilly adopts him and his sister. Nick is then accepted into the school of his choice and begins his training.

Jason is what is considered a brainiac who is bullied and beaten up at school. He begins to hear voices and goes to get tested for PSI. While waiting for the results, his father informs him he’s sending him to military school to toughen him up. Jason is upset and leaves only to be kidnapped after this begins the introduction of Cai who can’t remember anything before waking up in pain and not knowing who he is.

While the story was good, it bothered me that the Guild was able to take teenagers under the age of 18 without their parents knowledge or consent and do surgery on them, changing them. That was highly disturbing to me. Some of the terms used I didn’t understand.
The two young men meet when the cadets are taken to learn about the astrogators.

All in all, it was a good read.

Review: Grace Lynn has created an entirely new world for her Guardian City series, although transfers some of the well-known and used concepts in the paranormal genre, including mating and the odd ménage mating. This is book 1 in a series of 4 books and the way I understand it, this series needs to be read in order to understand the overall story.

This is a good book to read. The ideas are well thought out and all the rules explained, not leaving any room for confusion. In fact, something that also I noticed when reading another first book in a series by Grace Lynn, this story gives us the basic bones of the characters involved, but there is a lot of introduction, laying the way for future stories. In this case and this writing style, I really do like this.

However, others may get confused because the information is coming thick and fast. Which means the setting seems to chop and change a lot, so some things are mentioned and then not brought up later. Again, I hope and am fairly certain at this point that this is to do with set up for further books in the series.

That being said, with the simple story, it’s easy to get involved with the characters. Demend is an Elf with a complicated heritage that I’m not about to start. He’s pretty cool actually. First he doesn’t come across as particularly strong, then bang, we find out he’s this powerful alpha in a small-bitty package. I love that set up, especially in one particular scene where Demend makes a demonstration of his powers.

Nathan is a werewolf alpha who really isn’t happy with his lot in life. He puts up with a lot of stuff for the good of his loyal pack members. There are a number of minor characters, but the one that intrigues me the most is Cain and Thatcher – they’re connected to Demend but it’s too difficult and pretty much part of spoilers if I explained them properly. The other that intrigues me most is Demend’s twin brother Angel.

This is a good book, more involved in detail rather than plot. However, I would have liked to understand Nathan’s family a little better because it was difficult getting his brothers straight in my head – maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention. Also, because of the plot, it’s a dead give away at the end of the book that Demend is going to need another story, so I am hoping for a bit more story and more details to come.

Blurb: When it comes to love, there’s no such thing as traveling light.

Born wealthy and ambitious, Grady once worked hard and played hard—so hard, it brought him to the brink of ruin. Now, after a five-year retreat into the contemplative life, he’s dipping a toe back into the real world.

Assigned to write a series of articles about a Connecticut valley’s small towns, Grady checks into a local hotel. And meets a bellhop who seems determined to show him around…and maybe indulge in a more intimate tour later on.

When Josh’s boss half-jokingly suggests he get on a first-name basis with the writer who could make or break their town’s reputation, Josh jumps at the chance. He dreams of seeing the world, but the man he thought might be his ticket out turns out to be less influential—and more attractive—than he expected.

Together they uncover a strange plot to detour Norcross’s tourist dollars, a plot that leaves Grady bruised and angry. Now they’ll have to decide how far they’ll go to save the town…and how far they’ll fall for each other.

Review: If you’ve ever served in any small town political capacity, or you’ve had to attend those endless chamber of commerce or city meetings…you will totally relate to this cute, funny little story. If you haven’t ever experienced those duties…you may have a hard time relating, but it’s still cute to see how many hats Josh wears.

Grady just came out of self-imposed solitary living among monks, trying to give up the vice that caused him so much harm. Once on the outside he agrees to help out his cousin, a famous travel writer, by taking this assignment to tour the towns of Norcross and Westbrook, and review for him, under his assumed identity.

If you come form a small town, maybe one with a dying or dead manufacturing past, you understand how important tourism is to the local economy and identity. So the small town of Norcross is investing a lot of time and manpower to make a good impression on Grady, or who they believe to be Geoffrey Michaels. Even to go so far as to pressure their local jack-of-all-trades, Josh, who also happens to be gay, to offer his “personal” touch to the tour.

The gig is quickly up and Josh and Grady realize the pressure they are both under, but still the sparks fly, the chemistry boils over and a love affair quickly ignites. The two also figure out what Grady’s cousin was going for when he mentioned to Grady that he must “loathe Norcross” and write about it. A bitter feud between two small towns, plus money and corruption soon uncover a plot to destroy Norcross businesses and reputation, and take opportunity away from this small valley town…

I never thought small town politics could be fun and sexy, but Summer Devon makes this twisted romance a great hub to spin this story out from. Again, it packs a bigger punch if you have civic service experience, but is still charming without it.

p.s. I do so love that bartender…Uncle Jackson. I need a bigger T-shirt collection…

5 of hearts logo red on black smallReview: I really don’t think hot, sweet romance when I think of sheep shearing…so this book might not have caught my attention, but I’m so very glad I had a chance to read it!!!! The Shearing Gun is fun, sweet, sexy, very hot, interesting, adventuresome, and has a good dose of angst.

The writing was smooth, the action fast, and my attention was glued to each page. I felt like I’ve been schooled on the fine art of shearing as well as life on an Australian sheep farm. The life of these farmers and ranchers are is interesting, a bit isolated, but close-knit. It was a refreshing perspective to see how Hank’s friends and community react to the events that take place.

Elliot and Hank build an unusual friendship first, and then the sparks fly! The erotic scenes are creative, hot, and sensual. I’m thinking of a particular scene when Hank’s sheep tossing and pinning skills come to life in the bedroom! I think I read that three times….

I felt transported while reading The Shearing Gun. The author really allowed me to step into the characters, places, and events, escaping my reality for a day and getting my feet dirty with the dust of the sheep ranch in the Western Australian outback. I can almost hear them baaing now.

I’ve not read any of Renae Kaye’s work before, but you can be sure I’m watching the lists now! I can’t wait to read more from her! I highly recommend you pick up The Shearing Gun!

Review: Micah a thirty-six year old Silicon Valley retiree fell in love with the Delany House when the realtor showed it to him. He is spending a large amount of time and money to fix it up. The locals tease him about buying the “haunted” house but he doesn’t believe them at first. Until he starts seeing and hearing things, he can’t explain. Finally, Micah decides to talk to the ghost and learn who he is.

This a cute little story. Micah and Richard are so sweet together. Even as a short, this story gave me a warm happy feeling at the end.

Review: Plot; Alchemists, mages, and gifted humans gather in order to open up the gates to reach the Gods. As these things go, instead of the Gates of Heaven they opened a gate to another dimension from where Kaiju (strange creatures) – as called from the “Nipponese” – came through. These horrifying creatures cause the Earth big loses in human power but were in the end defeated, leaving behind their precious carcasses from where the first artifacts were made.

The artifacts gave the wielder great power and turned them into some kind of God of War. These Gods of War managed to save humanity from the Kaiju, but after that was done, they turned against their own fellow humans in the wars that followed the monsters’ demise. Humanity might very well die in the end…

Enter Hadashi, our main character and age 14. Hadashi is a kid who gets into trouble as naturally as he breathes. One of his troubles causes him a hand injury that leaves him incapable of holding a sword any longer. After being thrown out of the dojo where he leaved till then Hadashi’s trouble start for real, but this time he has with him the Orphan Blade… An Artifact!

Did you know that there was a mysterious myth about Artifacts? They have the tendency to call one another and gather together…
Ah, this was an interesting title. An adventure without being one. It’s a historical Sci-Fi followed up by a post-apocalyptic theme. It was familiar is what I immediately thought. Something about the intro made me feel as if I’d read something similar before and not only till I finished did I realize that Evangelion has been one of the inspiring Animes for this author. And yes, the intro resembles Evangelion way too much. Thankfully, the rest of the plot changes dramatically once chapter one hits and the semblance diminishes quite a lot.

The story is a bit of a mish mash of old-time classics and while that didn’t bother me the fact that it ends kind of abruptly threw me off big time. It’s almost as if this was the first book and then a sequel would follow or a series of books with Hadashi’s adventures, but no. This is a one shot and it leaves you empty in the end, craving for more. It makes sense though.

This was this author’s first graphic novel so the shortcomings are to be expected. What weirded me out is the fact that while this book had no romantic hints at all throughout its duration, the ending hits you with this HUGE romantic surprise, literally coming from nowhere, and while for me it was amusing and promising, it was also disappointing because there wasn’t and never will be a follow-up on that part. So, those craving emotions it leaves you with… Frustration is also right there following up like a faithful partner.

Art work: the artist is absolutely wonderful. His detailed backgrounds are capable of making you swoon and make the entire novel come to life. But unfortunately, there was a problem with the faces of the characters. They were too cute… What in Manga, you would call chibi or better yet how Disney’s latest movies look like. Yes exactly like that. But in this novel, a cutesy artwork simply didn’t work for me. It would have been tons better if the characters were rougher and more “mature” in appearance. Seeing Disney like children drawn in blood and gore, it kind of had my blood churning. I never did like the similar lolicon tsundere in Manga where little boys and girls get all bloody either. But I suppose that is my limit. 😉

Font size/style: horrible in the prologue/introduction pages. I know I’m being harsh and probably hurtful, but it was horrible. You had to magnify the page at 180+% in order to read the font. Where did that leave the artwork…? Well, I did mention the detailed background that brought the novel to life right? The font simply killed it right back having to zoom in so much and losing the effect of the illustration.

The rest of the read while not bad also requires a heighten zoom in or getting to close to the pc in order to read properly and going back through a distance in order to appreciate the artwork, so it was a continuous source of frustration too. I wish graphic novels had an easier on the eyes font instead of going for the artsy and flourish type.

The son of a fisherman was not a suitable match for the son of Greece as far as their mother was concerned, but Taryn always takes what he wants.

The Cellar is the story of how these two men met and fell in love, and what lengths Taryn went to, to ensure he kept his man.
