Blurb: Touched by tragedy, love is an elusive dream never to be realized by eighteen-year-old Jax Grady–until he discovers his secret admirer and receives the sweetest gift he could ever desire.

THE SWEETEST GIFT

Tragedy and horror shaped Jackson Grady’s life, leaving him orphaned and scarred. At eighteen he’s ready to claim his future, but who could love his disfigured face and damaged soul? Definitely not a big, burly, beautiful Irish Traveller who is entirely the stuff of dreams.

Dare Rowan didn’t mean to become obsessed with the blue-eyed man he first saw across a field, but that porcelain skin and innocent air demanded another meeting. Jax has the face of a wounded angel, and the rest of the young man is as heart-breakingly perfect.

Jax is beautiful in every way and teaching him about love and life will be something Dare will embrace. Like unwrapping and savoring the candy at the shop where he works, Dare will show this young man everything Jax desired but never thought he’d have, and take Jax to new highs while he holds him through the lows.

Between them, they’ll find out just how sweet life can be.

Review: Jackson Grady has experienced far more trauma at the tender young age of 18 than many people twice his age. First his father re-married, a woman with her own teenage son, neither new wife or new step brother caring much for Jackson. In the hospital with scars on the outside as well as in, caused by said step brother, his father dies of a heart attack. Not only does Jackson miss the funeral, his step monster sells everything and leaves Jackson to fend for himself. Thankfully, his father thought ahead and left his son a trust.

Kildare Rowan, known to most as Dare, is drawn to Jackson from afar. He sees the scars, he realizes that the object of his affection has been hurt by the way he carries himself, guarded and curt. Jackson sees himself as broken, ugly and unwanted.

But Dare sees him as his Angel, the scars and the painful past bringing Dare’s protective instincts to the surface. It’s a rocky start for these two. Between the age difference, Jackson’s trust issues that are absolutely and completely warranted, and Dare’s inability to communicate appropriately early on, they have a few hurdles to jump.

Just when I think Mac Nicol has covered every possible angle for a story in this series, she surprises me yet again. I loved the pairing of Jackson and Dare. Jackson so fragile, innocent and uncertain… Dare’s brooding and bodyguard mentality that presents itself as love and protection… they come from different worlds, but they manage to find a way to make it work.

The writing is superb as usual, the romance and passion these two share is on a different level and expresses itself in a different way, but I really liked that about the story.

Definitely a must read for fans of the Author and/or the series, but I feel that anyone that reads the genre would enjoy the story. A damaged character finding love, a big guy that just wants someone to cherish finding the perfect person for him, a different kind of love story.

Although you could probably read this book as a standalone story, several characters from the past books make an appearance and their impact on this book might not make as much sense if you haven’t read them all.

Blurb: Nick O’Flaherty and Kelly Abbott had their happy ending in sight when a friend’s call for help almost ended with them losing it to the blade of a knife. Now, in the aftermath of near disaster, both men are trying to heal and move on.

Moving on together, though, is harder than either of them realized it would be. Kelly struggles with simply being a lover instead of the doc while Nick is mired in his recovery. The distance between them inches along in stilted silence.

Desperately seeking solace, Nick finally gathers the courage to sort through the possessions his dear friend and fellow Sidewinder teammate, Elias Sanchez, left him when he died. Instead of comforting memories, Nick and Kelly find a stack of letters and strict instructions from Eli that prompts them to send out a call for assistance. With Eli’s letters in hand, Sidewinder sets out on one last mission together, seeking peace and absolution from beyond the grave – and from each other.

Review: This is it, the final hoorah for the Sidewinder team.

Nick is still on the mend from being stabbed and damn near killed while he, Kelly and the rest of the Sidewinder team did everything in their power to bring down the Vega cartel before they could kill Nick’s best friend Ty, and Ty’s husband Zane. By now Zane has pretty much become an honorary member of the team, having bled for them all more than once.

The knife wound, subsequent surgery and long road to recovery aren’t the only things hanging over Nick and Kelly. They’ve both lost their way, each of them were a compass for the other to light their way, all the secrets and lies has driven a wedge between them and Kelly is not sure he will find his way back to the love he feels for Nick.

It’s a letter from the only member of their psychotic team of misfits to meet an untimely demise that brings the whole of Sidewinder back together and quite possibly remind Nick and Kelly why they depend on, care for and love one another more than life itself.

Written fabulously by Abigail Roux, characters brought to life by Brock Thompson, the final book in the Sidewinder and Cut & Run series’ does not disappoint. I was a little worried about this group of men I have come to know and love having to go through another rough and tumble ordeal, but thankfully, Roux lowered the body count and anxiety level of this book dramatically from the others in these two series.

Part & Parcel brings the one character in the books we never really got to know to the forefront, Elias Sanchez. Through a series of letters and instructions, Sanchez takes his team on a trip down memory lane, making them all remember why they love each other like brothers, why they would put their lives in each other’s hands, and in doing so he also reminds Nick and Kelly that their love for each other is what matters, not the jobs or the missions or the bullshit, just love.

I will say that I don’t care very much for Thompson’s narration, but that is solely because I’ve listened to all the Cut & Run books and gotten used to a particular voice for each character.

That being said, Thompson did do a great job with the story including changes in inflection and tones to suit not only the character he was voicing at any given time, but to suit the situation at that time as well.

I know it’s an investment, but if you haven’t listened to these books, I recommend that you do. It is literally an epic saga, but it is so much fun to take the ride with all these guys.

Murder, Mayhem and Destruction is tempered by Love, Honor, Trust and Loyalty with these guys. Definitely a must read and/or listen series in my humble opinion.

I’m really quite said to have to say goodbye.

Blurb: After ten years away from home, bad boy caterer Gideon Marks has a lot to prove. Getting the holiday catering job at his childhood synagogue is the first step in demonstrating to everyone he didn’t turn out to be the failure they predicted. What he doesn’t count on is Rabbi Jonah Fine, his high school nemesis and secret crush, stirring up old feelings Gideon thought long gone and secrets he’s buried deep for years.

An unexpectedly passionate encounter shocks Gideon, but he pushes Jonah away, convinced he isn’t good enough to be in a relationship and would never be accepted by Jonah’s father. But Jonah hangs tough—he won’t allow Gideon to hide or run away from life again. And when it comes to love, Gideon learns the most important lessons aren’t always taught in school.

Review:   Gideon Marks has a chip on his shoulder and a lot to prove to the people he grew up with. After losing his mother and grandmother in a car accident, Gideon was raised by his alcoholic, emotionally abusing father. Gideon struggled with dyslexia and his father’s insults thrown at him on a daily basis. Queer, stupid, idiot, pansy, were breaking his spirit day by day. After dropping out of high school and leaving home when he was 17, Gideon struggled for years to come to terms with his dyslexia and to make something with his life.

Ten years later, he owns a successful restaurant/take-away business together with his best friend Rico. He’s ready to prove that he’s not the same worthless teenager he used to be. One thing Gideon hasn’t expected after returning to his home town was to find his childhood crush as the new Rabbi. Gideon isn’t ready to deal with Jonah.  No matter how much Jonah tries to get close to Gideon, Gideon tries his hardest to push him away. Good thing Jonah isn’t a quitter and he’s determined to have Gideon, the man he’s always loved.

There were many things I loved and a few that didn’t work for me that much. I loved how Gideon’s dyslexia was handled. It wasn’t made into this big drama, but it also wasn’t brushed under the carpet. It was the disability that shaped Gideon’s life and the person who he has become. I also loved how they functioned as a couple. Although it was mostly due to Jonah’s efforts more than anything else. And I really loved the secondary characters, especially Jonah’s father and Gideon’s best friend, Rico.

And speaking of Rico, I can’t wait to read his story!

What didn’t work for me at all was the insta-love that happened out of nowhere. Yeah, I understand that Gideon has crushed on Jonah forever, but they were never friends. They had never been close and Gideon didn’t even have a clue that Jonah was gay. And a few days after they met they’re exchanging ILY’s and you’re the love of my life kind of cheesy talk. That needed to come MUCH later!

One thing this story was lacking was Jonah’s POV, because I didn’t really understand him or get to know him. I couldn’t really tell what was going through his head. Alternating POVs would’ve been perfect here!!! And the last thing I’m complaining about is the somewhat immature behavior Gideon demonstrated at times. Gideon, storming out of a room, ignoring a person that’s talking to you, and behaving like a toddler throwing tantrums doesn’t look good on a 27-year-old.

Overall, this was a lot better than the last book I’ve read by this author. I can tell she’s becoming better with time and experience. I’m glad I gave Felice another chance and I’m looking forward to Rico’s story.

Review: Code Yellow is the third book in Susan Laine’s series Heroes at Heart. I’m not sure how this would go as a standalone book as this one picks right up from the second book, Yellow Streak. Besides which, if you feel this is your type of book, you’d be doing yourself a great disservice by not reading the first two books.

We meet up with MCs, Yancy and Curt, as they are trying to make things work for them in NY, between school, jobs and their tiny apartment they share. We last left them moving to NY and Curt was on top of his depression and now starting at Julliard to study dance and works part-time as a bar tender.

Yancy on the other hand has now landed himself a full-time job at the New York Public Library. The plot line surrounds the horrible suspicion that came up by the end of the second book, is Curt cheating on Yancy? All the signs are there. Yancy is now trying to keep it together, even with thanksgiving coming up and the guys are hosting their friends and family in their apartment.

I am really in love with this series. While there was much less of Curt’s depression taking centre stage in this book, we actually see both Curt and Yancy develop a lot more depth. This is a relatively quick novella to read and the pace was nice and steady – I didn’t put it down until I finished it.

This is a wonderful addition to the series and those following Yancy and Curt’s journey will not be disappointed.

Where There’s A Will

(Panopolis 03)
by

Cari Z.

Being a Hero in Panopolis means living the high life: parties, money, influence, even reality television. And I’m one of the most powerful Heroes in the city. I have plenty of fans, a manager who looks out for me (after himself), and a job that pays the bills. I should be enjoying myself.

Unfortunately, the downside of my superpower means I can’t touch anyone, which tends to put a damper on things. I probably don’t deserve all those perks anyway, since I’m working in secret with two of Panopolis’s biggest Villains to undermine GenCorp—my main sponsor and the company that controls what gets through my force field.

I obviously don’t trust my corporate overseers, but they’ve hired a new scientist who actually seems interested in helping me. Dr. Mansourian might have the answers to all my questions—not to mention a starring role in most of my dreams—but he’s hiding something big. If I let him have what he wants, I might not live to regret it.

Then again, the way things are going in Panopolis these days, I might not live either way.

When Mac captures the feral shifter that climbed the walls surrounding the Mercy Hills Pack enclave, he feels for the young shifter’s fear, though he knows his Alpha isn’t the sort of shifter Jason believes he is. He’d be happy to see the two mated, except that, as time goes by, it becomes more and more difficult to deny his own feelings for the young, damaged Omega.

Review: I am on the edge with this story. In ones ways it rocked but there were some parts that were left out that made me wanting to smack someone. For instance what punishment did Orvin get for the trouble he had caused? Now I will be wondering for quite some time. Other than that I had so much fun reading this.

I have become a bit leery of new authors, or at least new to me, and their stories with Omegas in them. Not too many that I have read, have had the easy follow thru as this story had. I was amazed with it and loved the characters even more.

Jason’s mom had been killed by their old pack, giving him and his father time to escape. After surviving for many years, danger shows up once more. His father is injured and Jason knew they needed help. He sneaks into an Alpha’s territory only to be caught by the head of security.

Mac likes the feisty little Omega, and wants him. However it is usually the Alpha that gets the Omega. It would seem like their Alpha is unlike any other Alpha, when he helps them to get what they want. Too bad the old pack wants their special Omega back. Looks like some ass is about to get kicked.

I did enjoy the romance in this story but I loved the twists and turns in it. This book caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. You can really sink your teeth in to this cute story.

The only thing I want to know is if the old Alpha got what he deserved.

I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

Blurb: Dylan has finally run away from an abusive pack, and from the Alpha that wants to force him to be his mate. Running with a limp is slowing him down, however, and there’s another wolf shifter out there in the woods that makes Dylan’s knees weak, and makes him want to stop running. He doesn’t care if this is just another Alpha that wants to use him for his own selfish purposes. So long as he can be near this Alpha he will feel safe, and everything will be fine.

Galen McDaniels can’t believe his luck. This isn’t just any Omega. It’s one of the rare few who can give Alpha pups to whoever mates with him. It’s obvious by the wolf ears and tail, and Galen feels a lust so strong that he knows he will take this Omega as his mate.

Review: It seemed in this book that at first Galen, Alpha wolf, was doing exactly as the Alpha in Dylan’s old pack did. Only wanting Dylan, an Omega wolf, because he can bear pups. I was glad that he wasn’t a bad guy after all and protected Dylan with everything he had, considering all Dylan had been through.

Dylan was sweet and I was appalled at the way he was treated in his old pack. I was happy he found his place away from the abuse and was given a chance to heal and just live without fear. Fast-paced and emotional, this book packs a punch.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this series and looking forward to the next book hopefully about Zayne and Peter.

Review: Each book in the Capulet collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

The Alpha’s of the team are about to find out what happens when they piss off their little mates. Lika, Damien, Noah and Seth want to prove to their mates that they are not weak, so they set out to find the next book. On the way they find themselves in a bit of trouble, however it would seem that their mates are about to spank their asses once more.

Jair and Terrin find out that they have the mating touch, while Terrin also realizes that Lika is their mate. The thing is Like is definitely not weak, it would seem his powers are coming in and things are about to become interesting.

I absolutely love Noah.

I enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the next story. This is one series I would definitely recommend.

Review: This is the second book in the Dead Camp series and boy does it pack a punch to the gut.

Eli and Mal infiltrate a death camp in order to free the prisoners from the atrocities taking place within. Eli goes in as a prisoner and gets a firsthand experience of ll the horrible conditions and treatments of said camp. I was so angry on behalf of all those within that suffered.

Mal goes in as a guard and experiences the evil deeds done by the guards and those in charge. I felt Mal’s disgust with the whole situation. I was also worried about Mal as he was a ghost possessing someone else’s body and feared that he would not make it.

As with any story of this magnitude there are mysteries to be solved past enemies to be brought down and above all else trying to keep your sanity in a place where evil rules. It was an epic journey of sorts that was filled with sorrow, horror and survival. The scene that actually made me bawl like a baby was the shower. The injustice and seeming disregard for human life simply because of who they were was almost more than I could take.

The author does a wonderful job in the details and storytelling. I felt as though i was actually there witnessing everything.

I loved this book and am looking forward to the next book in this intense yet fascinating series.

But Cody isn’t anyone’s to keep. He will evade capture and die before he lets himself be caged by a monster. When he’s finally caught, he thinks he’s about to be taken to the one man he doesn’t want to see ever again. Instead, he’s offered protection and a solution that will keep him safe.

The only thing is, he’d have to be mated to one of the very things he feared most—a wolf shifter. Cody’s not so sure the risk is worth taking.

Review: Oh my god, this book was so fantastic. You have Cody, who is on the run from an unhinged Alpha wolf which he did not know exists. He then meets Derrick who is a protector of his kind after he is sent to retrieve Cody for the Alpha.

He has no intentions of taking the man back however as he discovers Cody is his mate. This was such a great story with a twist I never saw coming. Heartbreaking at times yet heart stopping at others.

This story packs a punch.

Loved, loved, and loved it.

Highly recommended.

Review: The third book in the Playing the Fool trilogy, The Tempest continues on with the Shakespeare references, lots of dramatic action, a lovely mystery that comes full circle. There was a lot to bring together in this last book, many characters to tie together and a future to weave for Mac and Cheese. I was very satisfied with this ending, though saddened there could be no redemption for one of my favorite characters…I’ll let you read about it!

The sexual tension between Henry and Mac took some backwards steps a few times, unveiling Henry’s insecurity, leaving me wondering if Mac could really help heal those old wounds and the distance between them.

One of my favorite characters, Henry’s sister, plays a pivotal role in The Tempest, and I’m so glad of it! It helps bring the future together for them all.

The narrator does another wonderful job, though there does seem to be a chapter missing….wish I had that, but the story still moves forward at a fast pace.

An action packed trilogy, something to read that feels fresh and different from what the m/m genre has been pumping out lately. Worth a read or listen for sure. Oh and I can’t forget to throw in there…I totally LOVE Mac’s parents. Wish I had them myself!

The Better to Kiss You With by Michelle Osgood

Reviewer: Cat

Review: The  Better To Kiss You with is a fun story bringing the world of gaming and reality into real life for Deanna, a moderator of a Role-playing game called Wolf’s Run. She finds herself stalked by an irate rogue werewolf and a new girlfriend with a secret.

I loved this story. It is unique.  There are intriguing characters, some mystery, romance and a touch of humor. Everything I look for in a love story.

I am not a gamer, but I found the storyline easy to follow and fascinating. I loved both Jamie and Deanna and also Deanna’s best friend, Nathan. He added the color and humor to the story. And I cannot forget Arthur. Who doesn’t like a cute, furry friend?

If you like F/F romance, Dogs, Roleplay gaming, A sweet, sexy romance, and werewolves, this is for you!

Martial arts expert Lewis is the kind of bodyguard who slips under most people’s radar. Quiet, reserved, but constantly on alert, he’ll do his job, keep his charges safe, then relax by reading Shakespeare in his spare time.

When he’s given a case involving a spoiled celebrity singer, Lewis isn’t all that impressed. The job is nothing but babysitting a pretty boy, and he’s used to diplomatic postings with depth and challenge. What could he possibly have in common with the man he’s being forced to look after?

Alex became the envy of many when he and his fellow bandmates won second place in a huge TV talent show. He has more money than he knows what to do with, no life goals, an ex-boyfriend selling a sex tape and now, someone who wants him dead, or at the very least maimed.

Can Lewis keep Alex safe, even when things usually in his control go to hell? Is running to a remote Scottish island the only way for them to stay alive?

What About Now

by

Grace R. Duncan

Five years ago, everything went wrong. Braden Kirk and Rafe Jessen’s long-term relationship started unraveling. They stopped talking, fears mounted, then Braden walked in on Rafe and another man, completely misreading the situation. Without giving Rafe a chance to explain, Braden walks out. Out of their home, their relationship, and the game development company they started together in college.

After months of therapy to deal with the attempted rape Braden walked in on, Rafe begins to understand that his dominant tendencies in the bedroom aren’t a bad thing and that Braden’s submission is likely what scared his partner into silence. But Rafe isn’t ready to let go of the man he loves more than life itself. He arranges for himself and Braden to end up on the same charity cruise, knowing Braden won’t let his phobia—terror of vast, deep waters—rule him.

With a plan and twenty-eight days, Rafe is determined to get Braden back, make him see there’s nothing wrong with being submissive, and find a way to get Braden to stay with him when they get home to LA.
