Blurb: Cody Langdon’s been through a lot. He kissed a boy in the locker room and got brutally harassed for months. Unable to cope, he tried to take his own life. His parents decided a change in scenery would help, so they moved the family to Florida in the middle of the summer. The abrupt move left Cody lonely, bored, and beyond depressed. Stuck in a new state, Cody learned that a demon named Tanglewood had killed his neighbors and was taunting Cody. To save his family, Cody burned his house down.

Cody was lauded as a local hero and inducted into a support group for people who had survived encounters with dangerous demons. The support group introduced Cody to a new world of the supernatural and shared their own horrific experiences with incubi, curses, and ghosts.

Adam Monroe was a teenager just like Cody, until the demon Tanglewood killed his neighbors and his parents. Blamed for the multiple deaths and thought insane, Adam was locked away in a mental facility until Cody stumbled across evidence that cleared his name. The two bonded immediately over their shared trauma and mutual attraction.

After all, of his hardships, Cody is in for the strangest task yet — starting over at a new high school where he knows no one, doesn’t like organized sports, and thinks he’s above the petty social games.

Just as he begins to relax in his new environment, Cody’s parents find a new house to live in. Upon touring one of the identical homes in the Clearclay Park community, Cody discovers that behind the perfect hedges, trimmed lawns, and pristine appearance, a sinister force may lurk.

Forced to juggle his time between school, his parents, and Adam, Cody is confronted with the realization that not all problems are supernatural, and not all solutions are final.

Review: This book was interesting to say the least. Very bizarre little story line, however I did like it. I found myself laughing at certain parts of it. Cody is a teen who has gone through a really hard time. First he got caught kissing a guy at school and was bullied for it. He had tried to commit suicide but his dad save him. Then he finds out that a demon is terrorizing his neighborhood so he burns the house down. Now here is dealing with a gorgeous boyfriend who had also survived a demon attack. Moving to Clearclay Park, he finds out that it is ran by an incubus and a half demon.

His friends that he hangs out with all survived demon attacks. Even his boyfriend Adam is a survivor. The problem was when the incubus seduces Cody into a kiss and he loses his boyfriend. Now hanging out with his friends from school and his friends of the survivor group, he realizes that they have indeed found some more paranormals. One, which ends him up in the past.

Adam is sorry and wants Cody back, but Cody is not really sure what he wants now. He does know that he wants Adam but for some reason isn’t ready to go back. He has to stop the demons, free the innocents, and turn his friend Hayden’s grandparents back to humans. All in a good days work I suppose. What else could show up I wonder.

I thought that this story was told with a humorous tone, which made it more enjoyable. Although it did catch my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end, it left me with more questions than answers. It was a bit hard to follow at the end of it. I love paranormals stories and this one is pretty good. I loved the mixture of paranormal types in this book. I would recommend it to anyone who loved cute and sexy young men, strange friendships, paranormal’s, danger and excitement.

Review: I’m always a sucker for a good murder mystery story, and this young adult novel does not disappoint my sleuthing fetish.

Zurbo lays out many possibilities for the bad guys, some more obvious than others, and puts young Roger Cook to work solving the crime immediately. Roger, usually the jock assigned to report of sports is given the case of a teen suicide, a gay teen, and he can’t help but wonder if it’s because someone knows about his secret, the fact that he’s also gay. Though he’s afraid of why he’s been given the story,

Roger feels it’s important to give boys like Kyle a voice, and protect those who may be different, those like himself. He manages to reach out to another reporter and mentor to help him uncover the truth to what he suspects is not suicide, but murder.

There are many twists and turns throughout this story, and the plot really surprised me! While there is a budding love interest, there is little or no sexual content aside from implied oral sex scenes and brutal attacks, this is young adult after all.

Don’t be put off by the bad cover art. This mystery is a little gem! I’d like to see more stories following Roger as he adventures off into the world.

Blurb: One October morning, high school junior Bryan Dennison wakes up a different person—helpful, generous, and chivalrous—a person whose new admirable qualities he doesn’t recognize. Stranger still is the urge to tie a red sheet around his neck like a cape.

Bryan soon realizes this compulsion to wear a red cape is accompanied by more unusual behavior. He can’t hold back from retrieving kittens from tall trees, helping little old ladies cross busy streets, and defending innocence anywhere he finds it.

Shockingly, at school, he realizes he used to be a bully. He’s attracted to the former victim of his bullying, Scott Beckett, though he has no memory of Scott from before “the change.” Where he’d been lazy in academics, overly aggressive in sports, and socially insecure, he’s a new person. And although he can recall behaving egotistically, he cannot remember his motivations.

Everyone, from his mother to his teachers to his “superjock” former pals, is shocked by his dramatic transformation. However, Scott Beckett is not impressed by Bryan’s newfound virtue. And convincing Scott he’s genuinely changed and improved, hopefully gaining Scott’s trust and maybe even his love, becomes Bryan’s obsession.

Review: The Red Sheet is a gay YA story that allows the reader a glimpse into the mind of the both the bully and his target. Then you get to watch as the bully becomes the protector and falls in love with said target, but he’s going to have to work for it!

Bryan Dennison’s life is a memory of a dream. He cannot reconcile the person he used to be, and only vaguely remembers, with the person he is now. The most important person to him now is Scott, but Scott is not so easily convinced of Bryan’s motivations. So Bryan sets out to prove to Scott that he has changed, he loves him and he is worthy of Scott’s love in return.

Scott Beckett doesn’t trust Bryan any further than he could throw him! He doesn’t believe Bryan can’t remember. The superjock or superjerk, either fits, that made his life hell, now wants to protect him and be his friend. Whatever. As the story unfolds Bryan learns more about the person he was; mean, cruel and almost vindictive. And slowly but surely how he becomes more than who he was, and earns Scott’s love in return.

Kerick really conveyed a different side of the bullying in high school aspect than I’ve ever read, and she did it well. The reality of this story was shocking and made my skin crawl. This is a reality that young LGBT YA teens have to deal with from their peers on a daily basis, to the point some believe that dying is better than living. It saddens and sickens me. If just one of these teens could see things from the perspective of Bryan and Scott, I think this book should be required reading in school. Can we turn it into an after school special?

Loved it, if my previous statement wasn’t a given, this is a must read! The topic is dark yes, but the execution is wonderful, taking a different road to explore the highly debated issue of bullying.

Blurb: When family complications take Joshua away from his fundamentalist Christian mother and leave him with his grandfather, he finds himself immersed in a mysterious and magical world. Joshua’s grandfather is a Wisconsin Ojibwe Indian who, along with an array of quirky characters, runs a recreated sixteenth-century village for the tourists who visit the reservation. Joshua’s mother kept him from his Ojibwe heritage, so living on the reservation is liberating for him. The more he learns about Ojibwe traditions, the more he feels at home.

One Ojibwe legend in particular captivates him. Pukawiss was a powerful Manitou known for introducing dance to his people, and his non-traditional lifestyle inspires Joshua to embrace both his burgeoning sexuality and his status as an outcast. Ultimately, Joshua summons the courage necessary to reject his strict upbringing and to accept the mysterious path set before him.

Review: Overall, this book is a fresh take on the world and how someone’s heritage takes part in their life. And as I read it, I wanted to know more. But the book clearly took care of my questions.

I loved this novel from the start to the end. I’m not one for digging into a character’s heritage and learning about that character’s life but this was beautiful. Joshua is one of those characters that stand out in a crowd and for good reasons. He has to face his mother and her strict Christian values and at the same time, he has his grandfather thrusting Ojibwe beliefs on him.

Another thing is how the story flows. The storyline is solid and to the point. It makes for a strong read and then some. The kind of novel that keeps you interested and doesn’t preach at you. I found this novel to keep me interested. I never saw a dry point in my opinion.

When I read, I found myself curious about the Objbwe tribe the novel managed to answer every last one of them. In the end, I was highly satisfied with the novel. Jay clearly knew what he was getting into when he wrote this novel and knew how it was going to end. He had a clear mind on this the whole time.

I would highly recommend this novel. Not just for the characters but also the strong story that makes the reader want to know more.

Blurb: Fifteen-year-old Treasa Prescott thinks she’s an alien. She doesn’t fit in with the preppy South African private school crowd and feels claustrophobic in her own skin. Treasa is worried she might spend life as a social pariah when she meets Gabriel du Preez. Gabriel plays the piano better than Beethoven, has a black belt in karate, and would look good wearing a garbage bag. Treasa thinks he’s perfect. It might even be love. As long as Gabriel doesn’t find out, she’s a freak.

As Treasa spends time with Gabriel, she realizes she might not love him as much as she wants to be him, and that the reason she feels uncomfortable in her skin might have less to do with extra-terrestrial origins and more to do with being born in the wrong body.

But Gabriel is not the perfect boy Treasa imagines. He harbors dark secrets and self-destructive tendencies. Still, Treasa might be able to accept Gabriel’s baggage if he can accept who she longs to be.

Blurb: Micah McGhee has struggled all his life against prejudice and abuse. Forced to drop out of school after the death of his mother, Micah works full-time to support himself and his alcoholic father. One night, on his way home from a party, Micah’s hard life ends when he’s beaten to death by a street gang.

Three days later, Micah awakens with godlike abilities granted by the alien device that resurrected him. His work helping the downtrodden and performing miracles soon earns him worldwide attention—including the notice of conservative Reverend Vaughn Titus. Micah’s friends, devout Christians Antonio and Monica, along with Reverend Titus, urge Micah to use the power of the artifact to impose Biblical rule on the world. But Micah is all too familiar with how Christian law treats LGBT people, and he opposes the idea. When Antonio, Monica, and Reverend Titus gain access to the device, Micah must risk everything to stop them from forcing their religion onto everyone on earth.

Review: Micah has had to fight for what he has, dropping out of school and getting a job to survive after his mother died and to keep a roof over his dead-beat fathers head Micah has avoided the pitfalls that others have fallen into. But, one night the actions of another has Micah being brutally beaten and he awakens to a whole new awareness. Resurrected by a mysterious orb, Micah now has Godlike powers and he sets about easing people’s pain, it isn’t long before he falls foul of the Government and the devote worshipers of religion. When the orb falls into the hands of his friends Antonio, Monica, and the fervently devote Reverend Vaughn Titus, Micah tries to convince them of the wrongness of their plans for Christian rule and now Micah must risk everything to stop their religion from being forced on the world.

So first of all I have to hold my hands up and admit I was drawn in by the title and the great blurb and I’d secretly hoped for a couple of tips, but alas unless I find an alien artifact my bid for Universe domination will have to wait. So to the story, this is a brilliant story that is very down to earth and has great characters that are engaging and entertaining. We start out by discovering a lot about Micah, his life, his family and what he hopes for and we quickly take him to heart. As we follow him through the story we are drawn to his level-headedness seeing how he uses his new powers for good and not for selfish gain (well, with a few blimps for revenge), nobody is below his help until his good deeds start to backfire and draws unwanted attention.

Micah is a fantastic character who is superbly written, each character we come across comes to life, but it is Micah who sticks with me. While I remembered this was a transgender story I kept thinking it was going to be a secondary character because Micah was just a boy, a brash cussing boy, but when the big reveal came it really knocked me off my feet because of how well written Micah was. Antonio, Monica, and Titus were great in their roles but annoyed the hell out of me for their belief that if everyone followed the bible then the world would be a better place… I nearly laughed my ass off when it backfired. I also really liked that even though Micah tried his best for others he learned that no matter how much good you do people still wanted more; you heal a few sick and more people demand to be healed, you stop a famine and give them a bountiful land and people will go to war over the spoils.

Starting this story I really didn’t know what to expect but I was extremely pleased with the entire story, it led me on the journey of a young adult who knew what he wanted to do when he was given godlike powers, we follow him through the ups and downs, the repercussions and the pitfalls and the final solution.

I recommend this to those who love young adults finding their paths in life, science fiction that is intriguing, characters that are brilliantly written, and the startling discovery that just three bible verses could wipe out humanity.

Review: I’m always wary of young adult titles, as they always seem to be filled with anxiety and drama to the point I can’t enjoy them much, but this title is definitely unique in many ways. I loved it, not merely enjoyed it. I started reading and didn’t stop until it ended, and I was so glad to see it end in such a realistic and satisfactory way.

The narration comes from an adult Tyler who is recalling his first steps to adolescence and his first loves that shaped his entire life. Tyler’s first crush with his half-brother who comes so suddenly into his life, the rejection he receives and the way he lives his fantasy by observing Devin’s love with his lover Jesse. His heart breaks when Devin marries a much older than him woman for her money, and Jesse’s resulting suicide. His disappointment when the schemes Devin and his mother cooked up. The terrible loss when Devin is forced away from his life after the chaos that followed Jesse’s suicide. His loneliness when right after Devin he loses his first boyfriend. The seclusion and feelings of dead-end and the birth of a new crush that later turns into his biggest love in the face of Jacob. His newfound ambitions with basketball and the loss of his never achieved dream yet again when Jacob is forced to leave. And finally, the accomplishment of his first dream that allows him to finally move on with his life as an adult.

Many readers might not like this book. They might find certain things such as the fact that Tyler crushes on Devin, his half-brother and finally he manages to satisfy his fantasy. Or his inclination to stealing his brother’s underwear and having quite some jerking sessions with them. Many might find the story to be jumping topics, as Tyler goes through some years during his narration and doesn’t dwell upon things that in a previous chapter were on the spotlight. I on the other hand found this book so realistic that I couldn’t have enough of it. The writing style is enticing, makes you keep on reading and you don’t really understand how good the skill is because you simply are captivated by the story, and such details escape you. I found the lack of angst refreshing though the story didn’t lack edge and suspense. I even felt as if I was reading a thriller at some point, constantly waiting for the gory end or the gut retching trauma to happen. The pace was simply great, not too fast, not slow and dragging, it was the perfect balance that simply kept you going, moving forward, and enjoying every second, every minute of reading. The adolescent stage our protagonist went through reminded me of mine with the differences of our world and time, yet the feelings and emotions were clear and effectively made me go back in time and relate with the character.

As for the fast beating of the heart with the first crushes and intimate moments, this is a young adult title and therefore not explicit in its descriptions, but it did not fail to produce an enormous amount of emotions. I could even picture the scenes that were not told, I could feel those kisses as I read them, I could feel the chemistry and the electricity produced by it on my own skin. I’m repeating myself but the writing while not exquisite, was way too good. So much so, it made me wish the story never ended and most definitely made me notice this author and search for more.

Overall, this book is the best homoerotic young adult title I’ve read ever since I dived into this genre. A strongly recommended one as long as you can discharge the incest issue. I on my part loved every single line.

Review: Oh my freaking God, I can’t believe the cliffhanger. Just kill me now! Or rather don’t, I have #2 waiting for me so I won’t suffer long, though I fear what the end of that book is going to bring.

But back at this one, well what an enticing book this was. The first thought that came into my mind was “I’m reading a really weird book. Nice weird. Tolkien weird. It’s fascinating!” and then again further into the story I was reminded of World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King. It was surreal somehow that this book mixed up an assortment of favourites for me. The World it was set upon, the magical creatures and the people who inhabited this world, they were all alluring slowly drawing me in and managing to capture my interest and hold onto it.

I admit at first the book was hard to follow. The information required to understand this world was a lot to digest and every turn you took something new popped up. It was really hard to keep up with at the beginning. Then there were the twists it took, and as things constantly moved with deeper meanings, hidden subtexts, and the eerie feeling that something is about to happen, yet you had to wait and wait and wait some more made the entire read a bit frustrating and challenging your patience.

I also admit that things only come into perspective after half the book was read and became clear as crystal when the end was reached. That however was another exercise at patience on itself. There were characters left to know and understand, there were dark evils and enemies hidden in the shadows that were not revealed, yet you know for a certainty that they are their bidding their time. There was the mother cliff hanger that makes your head spin and I don’t know how I would have felt if I didn’t already have book #2 to pick it right up.

And there was the romance part that was somehow crippled. We have the main character Arrowsmith and he’s human. Through a series of weird events, he ends up into a strange place that looked quite medieval. He ends up working at the Mountain Cabin and sharing the house for the winter with seven really weird people. Warriors of the Moon Goddess, wolves, wizards and mages, werewolves and shadowy thieves, elves and half elves, dragons and the stars know what else, this world has them. It’s a lot to take when you’re a human raised to believe them as myths. When he falls for the half elf though, it was weird as it gets. One moment he wants another guy, the other he falls deeply for the Master Thief because it felt right, it felt familiar. Hmm, I don’t know what to think of that. When they came together, their lovemaking lacked the intense passion that would perhaps solidify how their relationship came to be and where it was going to take them. I just felt that particular part was not written well enough to make the entire read explode. It could, but it missed.

However, when I take a step back and look at the entirety of this book, even as I feel it needed more length for the background storyline and a little bit more love-making, I still found it absolutely captivating and certainly a must read for fans of high fantasy, because as I said at the very beginning, I just can’t wait to get to #2. Strongly Recommended!

Enjoy!

Review: I found this book to be amazing. A fun spin on the world of Fae, I was enticed and addicted to it from page 2. The more I read, the more addicted I was to finding out more. Review: Seven-year-old Mikey Madsen is so excited about Valentine’s Day. Until his teacher, principal and grumpy grandfather see the card he made. In the course of one afternoon, little Mikey and his mom learn a lot about themselves as well as the people that surround them.

The teacher throws a fit and her along with the principal visit Mikey and his mom that afternoon after school. Kate Madsen is a little surprised when she sees her son’s Valentine, but she doesn’t talk down to him like everyone else. She just wants to help her son make a cupcake for his Valentine. Throughout the day visitors come and go. The handy man is out back fixing Mikey’s tree house, the postman has eyes for single mom Kate, and Mikey’s grandfather has to get his two cents in the mix.

Kate has to assure her son she loves him just the way he is, and give that two cents back to her father in law. And at the end of the day, mom and son will both have had a very memorable valentine’s day!

This novella was just adorable. In the end, it was Bobby himself along with Kate’s support of her son’s announcement that completed the story. We are all born who we are, it drives me crazy when I read someone else saying, “You choose to be gay.” When referring to someone who is LGBT. This story is the perfect example of why that statement is entirely inaccurate.

If you want something fast, fun and absolutely adorable this book is absolutely perfect!

Blurb: Alex’s life as a teenager in South Central LA is far from perfect, but it’s his life, and he knows how to live it. He knows what role to play and what things to keep to himself. He’s got it all under control, until one lousy pair of shoes kicks him out of his world and lands him in a foster care group home.

Surrounded by strangers and trapped in a life where he could never belong, Alex turns to the only person lower on the social ladder than he is a “special” mute boy. In Sebastian, Alex finds a safe place to store his secrets—those that sent him to foster care, and the deeper one that sets him apart from the other teenagers he knows. But Sebastian has secrets of his own, and when tragedy rips the two boys apart, Alex will stop at nothing to find the answers—even if it means dragging them both through a past full of wounds best left buried.

It might just be worth it, for the slim chance at love.

Review:  This book was long and quite complicated. You truly do get the understanding of Alex and who he is. When he understands something or learns something, you being to feel for him and learn.

Sara Alva truly shows what life in South Central LA is like. The tough times, the dark times and then some. I found this book to be a bit long for my taste and at the same time, I found it intriguing at the same time. Maybe it was too much for me but I’m sure someone who appreciates a great amount of detail would appreciate a book like this.

I just honestly didn’t like this novel. I don’t know specifically what made it a bit of a drag but I know that it was tough to start, tough to continue and then some.

What I did like was how the characters were willing to protect each other. How they were willing to hide the secrets each other didn’t want to voice. And while I didn’t like the length or how rough it was for me to read it, I found it to be somewhat intriguing.

Review: Many people who know me know that my favorite reads in the world are paranormal romances, especially when it is two very hot and sexy men. What’s more is when those two men don’t just fall in love and in bed right off the bat. I love it when there are twists and turns to their relationships. M.J. never fails to amaze me.

This book is another hit and I absolutely loved it. Mile’s is a true wonder and believes that monsters only exist in him imagination and in his stories. That is until he comes face to face with them in the wonderful city of New York. He is rescued by the rough and tough PC, who is trying everything to break their bond. You would fall in love with Miles if you ever met him, quirky sense of humor and is unique and gentle. His smile would light the way for any sexy man looking at him. PC on the other hand is sexy and hot with a temper to match. However, he would give up his life to keep Miles from dying.

The sex between them both will set the sheets on fire and keep you heated up all night long. This story has a perfect story line, one that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I love plots that involve love, hate, danger, and pain. There is a lot of danger in this story one that will show you the twist and turns of their budding romance. Now if PC will let himself fall in love.

I couldn’t put this story down at all, even gave up the idea of eating for a bit. I turned on the radio, got myself a drink and sat down for a day of reading. I can see myself reading this story many times over.

Blurb: Zirkua Fantastic has been running steadily since 1753, amazing its patrons with acts of otherworldly skill and prowess. But that talent comes at a steep price: each artist must give a year of his or her life to the circus. None of them knows why, only that the circus’ owners will go to whatever lengths are necessary to ensure it. Toby, the hoop dancer at Zirkua Fantastic and son of one of the owners, is content with his life: he enjoys performing and Zirkua’s wandering life, and even has a boyfriend among the circus’ hawkers. But when a new artist arrives, bringing with him a strange flask and a number of odd occurrences, Toby falls face-first into the truth behind the circus: Its contracts bind King Jester, the immortal embodiment of chaos.

Zirkua’s performances and contracts have held King Jester prisoner for centuries, but now something’s amiss. King Jester’s sister, Dragon, has escaped her own bonds and is working to free her brother, and his power is growing. If he is loosed on the world, it will mean the worst war in human history and the end of civilization… unless Zirkua Fantastic can find a way to stop him.

Review: I had a lot of trouble following this story. It is written very well, but I just couldn’t keep my attention on it.

Toby is a gentle and kind young man who is a hoop dancer. He even has a boyfriend who he likes a lot, even though his father warns him to not fall in love with him because he is a Hawk and all hawks leave. He actually likes what he does even though it cost you a year of your life to be in Zirkua Fantastic. He is someone who would capture your attention and make you just take him into your arms and coddle him. Although no one knows what exactly Zirkua Fantastic is about, Toby comes across the truth. King Jester has been held prisoner for many centuries and his sister who has escaped her own bonds keeps trying to free her brother. If he escapes, everyone dies.

This story has a lot of danger and excitement in it. It has its magical side to it, which I did like and comes off like genie in the bottle. It has a good story line one that if you were in to fantasy style stories with young people it would be a big hit. The only problem I had with this story is it just didn’t come across as real to me or even a possibility to be real.

Review:  The story is told from Ben’s POV as he relives their story, his, and Timmy’s. Ben and Tim, as their friends call them, are pretty much inseparable until normal adolescent problems and hidden feelings start to get in the way. Ben is trying so hard to please his unappeasable father while Tim is dealing with issues of his own. He starts to pull away from Ben, partying and doing drugs. When Tim realizes he has feelings for Ben that go beyond friendship and tries to explore them, Ben shuts him down, not wanting to admit to himself that his feelings for Tim go beyond friendship as well. In an attempt to protect his friend, Ben makes a decision that has severe consequences.

I loved that this story was told from the one characters POV, almost like a journal he’d written about their life together. As you live Ben and Tim’s life through Ben’s eyes, you get to see them grow and change so much. Through the good and the bad, they truly are meant to be together. The title of this book is absolutely perfect; they aren’t broken, just bent. After Ben broke Tim’s trust, they fell apart for a while. Both of them went through a lot of personal growth throughout and came out the other side stronger. Ben’s voice is passionate and smooth, and you can almost feel his pain when he has to let Tim go. Even finding their way back to each other, Tim admitting how hurt he was and yet, how much he still loved Ben.

Let me start by saying Cover Love! That is what drew me to this book initially. Then the blurb sealed the deal. What I got was a really good gay YA story. Kept my attention from start to finish with mild angst and subtle character development. Definitely recommend this one.

Review: Thank goodness for suicide hotlines and sisters…and if one believes in angels…cousins who wish, they could do things differently.

This is a sweet and sad story that contains no sexual content, but a strong message to those who are gay, feeling they cannot be themselves…You are not alone…, and it will get better!

Very after-school special kind of feeling, but important nonetheless.

Blurb: When Torrant Shadow fled his homeland of Clough, he hoped to leave its threats behind. He spent four years living with the Moons, making sure Yarri had a home; now it’s time for Torrant and his foster brother, Aldam, to leave for the University of Triannon, where Torrant hopes to create a new life enmeshed in healing arts and politics.

Torrant’s new school friends Trieste and Aylan want to teach him about love as he settles in, and at first, Trieste’s tenderness seems to make her the logical choice for an interim lover, while Torrant waits for Yarri to grow up. But Torrant has learned the hard way that nothing is simple when Clough still wields its influence over their lives. More and more, Torrant must call on the cold predator in himself, the part that Aylan most admires. The truth is, Torrant has certain gifts that give him an advantage of self-defense, but using them to protect the ones he cares for may destroy the part of him Trieste and Yarri love best.

As the four schoolmates progress to life beyond education and the evil from Torrant’s homeland becomes too pernicious to be ignored, Torrant must choose his destiny: Will he be a healer or a hero? Only Triane’s Son can be both.

Review: I am utterly in love with this series and it feels like I’m a child reading fairytales again, fairytales that allow my mind to roam free and explore exquisite magical lands and wonderful, lovable heroes.
Unlike my childhood fairytales though, this one is a bit more explicit. Life, love, power, cruelty, and violence have all a place in these books in which each are strong and evoke incredible emotions from the reader.

Triane’s Son Learning picks up exactly where the first book left and we see Torrant trying to bring two more members in his Moon family. Aylan and Trieste are two figures that we expected to be here and have a prominent place in this installment. At the beginning of this story, Trieste is Torrant’s lover and of course, her relationship with Yarri has a rocky start. It was lovely reading this, Yarri is always so very charming with her wildcat character, and she throws you off of your guard with her understanding despite her young years.

At least half this book revolved around the concept of family, the ties binding together more and more with every page, the love, and acceptance, the vast magnitude of a hearts loving capability. The shadows and darkness were always around the corner, the edges of this loving story were always tainted in blood, pain, and misery. Evil’s clutches never remained far, even as our characters grew up and tried to make their sweet dreams of a loving easy life true. But the half part of this book was easy, sweet, and tender, through the new challenges of life.

The character who surprised me for the most part was Aylan. My God, I honestly can’t say I expected the depth of this character, or the growth he’d suffer here. Aylan showed such a charming personality I died a little every time when he and Torrant kept dancing around each other, yet never meeting in the middle. When they finally did get their one and only night together I swear I wept. Throughout the book the tension between them was mesmerizing so when it finally, finally happened, it felt like it was my own long-term longing finally getting fulfilled. It was wonderful, it was brilliant, and it was painful to read. Mostly it was freaking erotic without being erotic, if that even makes sense.

And it applies for all the sexual scenes be them male/male or male/female. There was such a sensual approach in each and every one of them, such descriptions that made them all unique, yet you couldn’t choose which one was better. It’s perhaps the first time I read both gender interactions and I don’t feel as if one of them lacked in the erotic/sensual part. I simply have no words for them beside them being absolutely a joy to read. Perhaps it was Triane’s doing 😉

As for the action plot, well there are so many to say and yet words fail me. The story takes a fascinating turn. Many thing that didn’t quite make sense in book one, are now brought to light. This planet with its three moons is like a sitting volcano, the story itself is trembling with tension and a brewing storm. Throughout the read, you feel it and it affects you deeply. You keep anticipating the dark tendrils of Rath’s rotten heart to come grab you from a blind corner and make the read beat in a fast and eager for blood tempo. There are bloody scenes, of course, there are, and they grip you so hard that you simply can’t fight their power, just as you can’t fight the emotional charge that follows right in their step. Every time vengeance rears its head, guilt and hurt follows like a faithful companion, delving your heart in heavy yet delicious emotions. I can’t say how much I really, really love this story. I can’t say how hard it is right now waiting for the next installment I simply LOVE this story.

So bottom end, maybe I’m biased, but I can’t recommend this book enough. Pick up book one, then this one, and by the time you’re done book three will be out. That only leaves one last installment for you to wait. I’m sure it’s going to be agony. It is for me. Totally recommended!

Review: This was a sad story, but sweet at the same time.

Most of the kids had very lousy home lives, but they come together as a family. Andy was coming back to school after trying to commit suicide because of his friends and a very rude bunch of homophobes. Dalton’s own home life pretty much sucked, but his friends rally besides him and he even has a crush on Andy.

This story is told in such a way that you come to realize what happens to many teenagers that come out to their family and friends. It makes you want to stand up and scream at people who are such fools. To tell them that you support your friends and others that come out as gay or lesbian. The only problem I found is that it left me hanging wondering about Andy and Dalton. This story is told with seriousness and you feel the anger and pain from each character, but you also feel the support and love they have for one another.

If you want a truly heartwarming story, one that might make you cry and want to just hug each and every one of them.

Review: Zeb just lost his father and is now responsible for his two younger siblings, Hannah just going to high school and Donnie only six. His chances of going off to college are not good. Zeb has just graduated high school and now instead of college is face with raising a family and trying to keep social services from taking them.

Cale his best friend and secret crush accompanied him on a trip to settle some business. On the trip back Cale starts acting odd and insists he take a hidden road. They find a beautiful lake and meet a strange family that freak out when they want to see the lake. Cale thinks this is a great place and tells his dad a big real-estate developer about it. They purchase the property to build a big subdivision.  Cale takes Zeb, a couple of friends and Zeb’s siblings to camp out on the property one evening. A fun friendly trip turns into a nightmare unleashed.

Warning: Unless you are a big horror buff, don’t read this at bedtime or with the lights off. I did the first night and had horrible nightmares.  I really liked the story. It was interesting and I found it pretty scary. What I really liked was the romance. Zeb and Cale are very unique men. Zeb has been in love with Cale for a long time and is happy just having him as a friend. Since Cale is straight, he knows that’s all it will ever be.  I liked Cale too though at times I didn’t understand him. I never quite got why he hid his sexuality from Zeb since they were so close but it did make for a good story here.  I loved that Zeb stepped into his role of responsibility without thought about his own wants and desires.  I liked the eerie way the mystery unfolded and that it had a very Stephen King other-worldness to it. I found the combination of romance, angst and mystery/paranormal just right.  I also love this cover!

If you like unexplained supernatural phenomena, a good romance, young adult// coming of age, mystery and friends to lovers this is for you!

Review: Ah, a Young Adult title from Prizm Press and one I enjoyed a lot I must say. In a slightly short space, as this story rounds up just forty-two pages, the author manages to give us a nice Christmas themed little drama. Yes, of course, there is some drama, the characters are teenagers in their senior year at high school, and there is a little bit of fighting over a solo there. But I’m rushing ahead; let me introduce you to these lovely characters first.

Jeremy; he has a dream and it starts with winning his solo for his High School’s Christmas concert, it follows by winning the audition for his college of preference, wooing everybody in his way, and ends with him performing at Carnegie Hall. If only Zach didn’t existed.

Zach; new kid in school, joins the coir to earn some new friends but ends up with people hating him. Yes, he’s talented and has a voice to blow your mind, but he ends up getting the solo and stealing the beginning of Jeremy’s dreams.

Amber, Jeremy’s best friend, a member of the choir, and also tried for the solo. She has a mouth that has no boundaries and a mind to tell things as they are, so you can imagine her role here.

Hunty, also known as Mr. Hunt; he’s the choirs director and a big influence for young students, especially gay students.

So what happens when you’ve been eyeing your target for three years and a newbie snatches it up right out of your hand? What happens when said newbie is a lonely kid in a new place and very fun to hang out with? What happens when despite you wanting to hate said newbie you just can’t and end up being good friends? Serious questions all of them, but the biggest of them all is: What happens when he gives you your first kiss and then vanishes on you?

Teenage drama at its prime, yet somehow I loved every single line. I thought it would be angsty and overbearing, thankfully I was wrong because in this short story you have a good growth of characters that are fairly depicted and manage to transport you a bit back in the times you were their age too. There also is a subtle romance brewing here that runs a bit on the background and even as things end in a happy note and with Christmassy feelings of generosity and wonders, you’re left to wonder how things will pan out for this duo in the future.

I enjoyed this read. It was a bit different from the others I’ve read that are holiday-themed and I must say it was quite invigorating. And it also made me hit YouTube and listen to some nice songs. Just the same I wish to read more of this couple in the future, so there dear author, make it happen.

Heh, I’m not too demanding am I? Recommended!
