Marked by Lightning

(D’Vaire 18)
by

Jessamyn Kingley

For two wizards from opposite worlds, only fate knows if a future awaits them.

When a group of intrepid sorcerers leaves their government, Prism Wizard Vadimas Porfyra is selected to lead them. After centuries of denying his chosen school of magic, Vadimas is embracing the full power of his hue. Busy ruling the Spectra Wizardry, he believes the only thing missing from life is a tidier house. Treasured by the large D’Vaire family, Vadimas is content and not seeking anything beyond knowledge.

Far from the Council of Sorcery and Shifters is Arch Wizard Severin Dewitt, the Fate-chosen leader of the wizards. Little is known about the man whose wrist is marked by lightning. Severin is rarely seen, and unbeknownst to most, inside a house he cannot leave, his every move is being watched. Yearning for freedom, Severin must take matters into his own hands to forge his own destiny.

The Consilium Veneficus considers Vadimas an upstart and a traitor, so when he and Severin find out Fate has chosen them as a couple, there is little consensus on what the future holds. Severin’s knowledge of Fate is minimal, making it difficult for him to accept that a matebond rises above everything, while Vadimas trusts her fully, pushing their relationship to the brink.

Will distance, separate goals, and the ocean separating their populations of wizards stand between Vadimas and Severin forever, or can the two compromise to build a future together?

Review: Killian has dealt with a lot in his lifetime and as a result has resided alone in his tree for a long time. When he meets his mate Dravyn he is stunned but decides not to say anything. For two years Dravyn writes the man with no response. Then Dravyn’s friends go and find Killian and convince his to come to D’Vaire. From there things get interesting.

I loved this story. Dravyn certainly made Killian work for his forgiveness which I was glad for. Killian for his part starts to realize what he almost lost and does what he can to get Dravyn to forgive him. But this story is more than that. It’s about alliances and foes and surprises that I never saw coming.

I have enjoyed this series from the beginning and the enjoyment just keeps on coming book after book. I have to admit to not liking Aloisa when she was first introduced. Her attitude towards others was atrocious at times. Now after this story I understood a little better.

It’s a fascinating addition to the series that was wonderful to read.

Highly recommended.

Review: The holiday spirit is in full force with the D’Vaire clan as plans and decisions are set in motion to bring all cheer and joy for Christmas.

Alekander is voted Aleksanta and I enjoyed the heartfelt and warmth in the letters he received. There were hilarious moments as well that brought joy to my heart with all the bantering between the D’Vaire’ and their extended family.

A truly magnificent story of the true meaning of Christmas. I found myself immersed in so many wonderful feelings at the end of the story that I did not want it to end. So many got their Christmas wishes and one realized that he meant more to them than he thought.

Fantastic read and highly recommended.

Review: This was wonderfully written story about Niko who was once a prince but when he finds his mates in Chrys and Damien’s parents his own father sends him to them cutting him off from the rest of his family. I was absolutely pissed at the way Niko’s mates abused him. There are no words to express my deep admiration of Niko for making it out sane and alive.

This story focuses a lot on Niko’s OCD. I myself suffer from it as well just not the extent Niko does. I understood his need for stability in those daily rituals. Costas was a gem, he understood Niko and as such was there for him every step of the way. I was so thrilled when Niko finally got his wish.

A lot happens throughout this story. Niko finds new friends and family that protect him against those that would harm him. There are ups and downs but in the end with love, patience and an abundance of support Niko finds out who he can really be in the right environment with those who care for him around.

Another great addition to the series. Fantastic read.

Review: This is part two of emperors Ellery and Chrysanders story. The two are settling into life together as mates. They are happy and enjoying each other. But not everyone is happy for the newly mated couple and a devious plan is set in motion that will change their lives forever.

History has a way of repeating itself and in this case that is almost what happens. The spans a year or more as Chrys and the sorcery of D’Vaire struggle night and day to reverse what is done to Ellery. I was heartbroken as the event unfolded and could not imagine the agony the emperors were going through. Chrys was a rock for Ellery through this trying time though he did have his doubts from time to time.

I was thrilled as many characters we know and love came together as a whole to find out who did this horrible thing to their emperor. I am always amazed with every book that comes out as they always add more depth and understanding to an already fascinating series.

I loved meeting the new characters that were introduced in this addition as well as hints to future matings. It’s always a pleasure to read each book that comes out and I feel humbled and honored that I was introduced to such an amazing and intriguing series as this.

I highly recommend the entire series. You must read these books in order as each picks up where the previous one leaves off. It is my greatest wish that this series continues for a long time as I simply love it. It’s my favorite series of all time.

Blurb: Emperor Chrysander Draconis rules not only the dragons but the entire Council of Sorcery and Shifters. From the moment Fate selected him, he has devoted himself to ensuring his people thrive and prosper. His life revolves around duty; nothing stands in the way of his dedication to his job. One of the most prominent issues on Chrysander’s plate is the lack of hybrid drakelings that have survived the road from man to beast. When he receives word that one such rare soul is living in an obscure tribe, he races to help.

Ellery of the Fen-Lynthi elves is different from the rest of his people. He does not understand why his ears are shorter, why he stands taller than the others. Then his mother explains why the other children mock him and call him a mongrel: his father, a dragon, abandoned her the moment he learned of Ellery’s impending birth. With his mother’s often-fragile mental state, Ellery does not know if he can trust her words, but they are all he has. He spends his days ostracized, doing what he can to improve his lot.

Chrysander is overjoyed to find his mate among the Fen-Lynthi, but when it is confirmed that Ellery is half dragon, he is terrified Ellery will be ripped apart by the beast inside him. Regardless, Chrysander proceeds with their matebond ceremony, though he delays the event, believing duty demands they bypass elven tradition. This troubles Ellery, and he wonders if moving forward is what Chrysander truly wants. Their schedules present them with little opportunity to spend time together, which gives him further cause for worry. If that isn’t enough, Ellery is apprehensive over his new role as emperor. Chrysander and Ellery must confront their fears and learn to face the world as a united and loving front. In doing so, not only will they be able to defy the impossible, but they will change the world.

Review: I loved this story. Chrysander finally gets his story and meets his mate Ellery. However he his duties get in the way of their mating but Ellery just takes it in stride. These two needed to talk to another. They only seemed to catch snatches of time with each other in between meetings, shopping, etc. I really felt for Ellery but Ellery soon finds a best friend and a champion in Tiri, Zane’s mate.

I have to admit to Tiri stealing my heart in this book. I was incensed at the way his chieftain treated his people. I do hope they can save those left behind. Tiri was smart, stubborn, sarcastic and generally a happy person. I really loved how the author wove the story around these couples with all the twists and turns that were revealed the story flowed off the page. I really enjoyed the tension, the mystery and suspense that revolved around the group for one thing or another.

I have to admit to not caring for Wesley in this addition. I think he let his job go to his head and assumed everyone would just do what he said. I especially didn’t care for the things he said about Ellery or Tiri. But, I have all ideas he is about to find out what happens when you mess with dragons mates if the plan he devised at the end of the book follows through.

This series just keeps getting better and better with each new book. I am in awe of how well the story is told and the characters that are involved with each new thrilling read. My favorite series to date.

Highly recommended.

Blurb: High Arcanist Delaney D’Vaire is the world’s only dark wizard, something that has alienated him from his people since birth. Orphaned as a child, he is shuffled around until the Prism Wizard sees his potential, steps in, and enrolls him in school. Though he never truly feels like he belongs, Delaney excels. Graduating at sixteen, he applies to a unique sanctuary, and his life forever changes when he is accepted. Delaney has the family he’s always wanted; surrounded by love and support, he’s grown into a young man, giving everything to help the people who still scorn him, though he continues to doubt himself. All he needs now is his mate, but Delaney is skeptical that even Fate could come up with his perfect match.

Vampyr Lord Grigori Volkov is the genius of his family. Numbers line up in his head, and he loses sight of the world around him. At fourteen, young Grigori creates a nearly synthetic version of blood to sustain his people, saving countless lives. Content to remain out of the spotlight, his involvement is kept from the general public. Since then, Grigori has spent most of his time alone in his lab, learning all he can and pushing his limits. At twenty-six, Grigori is content with his solitude and doesn’t believe Fate has him in her sights.

When the High Arcanist and the Vampyr Lord appear at the same event, they are stunned to find that Fate indeed has a plan for them. Reeling from their discovery, the mates set upon the task of getting to know each other. It does not take them long to find common ground, but as Delaney and Grigori build their life together, old foes will test them and their entire family. Review: In this addition to the D’Vaire series Delaney is front and center as he meets quirky, scientist vampire Lord Grigori. I loved Grigori and his absentmindedness. It was so cute when he panicked after missing their first date by accident. These two were a great match for the other. Delaney’s familiar was a riot with what he did to Grigori while he was sleeping.

Though the majority of the book surrounds Delaney and Grigori many other things are happening as well. We finally get a resolution to Latarain and her evil grandfather once and for all not to mention shadowwalking and a few other things that happen along the way.

This is a fantastic series as each new character that is introduced seems to fit the D’vaire family perfectly and further the series into deeper depths. I am looking forward to seeing what happens next. I am curious why the wife of Duff’s brother was not prosecuted for what she did, after all she did travel to the United States in an attempt to kidnap Delaney so she should have been brought back to stand trial. Surely the sentinels or reverent knights could have picked up on her magic signature or what have you but that’s my opinion.

Fantastic read and highly recommended.

Review: Grand Summoner Dre’Kariston D’Vaire with the help of his twin finds out a name for his mate and where he is. On learning they have to travel to Court Ethelin and Prince Somerly. But alas this will not be an easy road for Dre’Kariston. With his familiar, Derwin so angry all the time, a dragon king who is an ass and only looking out for himself not to mention his mate has secrets that when revealed could tear the two apart it was a wonder that Dre’Kariston was sane as I would have been extremely angry at the way Somerly treated him.

I loved this story so much. There was drama, heartache, love and the support of the D’Vaire clan with every step of the story. The search still continues for a way to make Carvallius and his daughter (when they find her) pay for their crimes as well as new members that arrive and one is a surprise I never saw coming.

It’s best to read these amazing stories in order as they are connected and pick up where the last book leaves off so to speak. I love immersing myself in the D’Vaire series with it’s wide range of characters, attitudes, mystery, suspense and adventure.

Simply a brilliantly written story that holds your attention from start to finish with every book.

Fantastic addition as always and highly recommended. Looking forward to the next book in the series.

Review: I adored Idris and Mac in this delightful story. Though not action packed like previous books this story still tells the tale of Idris as he achieves his goals throughout the story. The actual spell he performs blew my mind. I loved how the D’Vaires and their many friends we’re constantly encouraging and supporting both these men.

There were some hilarious moments that had me chuckling as the story progressed. I was troubled by Duff’s attitude as the story went along. Delaney for his part tried not to let Duff get to him. So many wonderful descriptions of Idris’ work not to mention his struggles with himself about things from the past.

This series is an ongoing adventure for the D’Vaire, their allies and enemies. I so have enjoyed the continuation of each and every book as I was taken along for the ride. There is never a lack of hilarious moments as well as thought provoking mysteries, solutions and problems that arise.

Fantastic read and highly recommended.

Review: *For those who might wonder Dra’Kaedan and Ayden are the same person, it’s all explained clearly in the first chapter how it came to be.

Dra’Kaedan’s, warlock, life is hell under Latarian’s rule. I really could not stand the spoiled, irritating, ungrateful brat who only thought of herself and enjoyed inflicting as much pain as possible on Dra’Kaedan. I seriously wanted to do her bodily harm as the story progressed. Getting to know the D’Vaire clan was a delight. Each character added to the story as it progressed. I loved Dra’Kaeddan’s sarcasm and wit. I was extremely happy with this story.

This was an amazing story about deceit, lies, love and rising above the evil in their midst. Brogan, a dragon shifter, was unsure about Ayden and ended up insulting the man he thought was a familiar. I felt for Ayden and wanted to slap Brogan for his unkind words at first. Despite the angst they got to know one another and fell in love. When Ayden falls ill after their mating ceremony accusations fly around and Latarian blames Ari, a visiting warlock.

I truly enjoyed this wonderful story from start to finish. If I could have given a higher number to the rating I would have. It was dazzling tale of how different races can come together for the greater good and how evil will not win in the end. I will say I’ve read all the way to book eight in this series and it’s my all time favorite series to date. So many wonderful characters are throughout as they each face their own struggles within each book. There are many aspects to these books that had me enthralled from the beginning. I love reading about the characters that I know and the new ones introduced.

I implore everyone to read this fantastic series you won’t be disappointed with the action, drama, suspense, mystery, romance and angst that are in the books.

I highly recommend this series to all.

Blurb: As the son of the Cwylld rulers, Cadlyr hates being part of the notoriously war hungry tribe since the moment he understood the revulsion they caused in others. So, he’s delighted when he arrives at his first elven gathering and meets his other half. Cadlyr can leave the Cwylld and enjoy a prosperous life. Observing the tradition of their people, they agree to be mated the following day. Only, instead of promising his life to Evlithar of the Valzadari, Cadlyr is told the young elf has died by his own hand. Devastated, Cadlyr promises not to forget him and rages internally that Evlithar failed to come to him with his troubles. If he had Evlithar would still be alive and Cadlyr could’ve escaped.

Two thousand years later, Cadlyr’s existence has changed. Now the last of the Cwylld he is determined to recreate the sullied name into something noble. He resides within a special sanctuary at the Draconis Court of D’Vaire and has never been happier. It takes time, but he is eventually convinced to return to the annual gathering of elves. Once there he can hardly believe his eyes. Cadlyr is sure he’s seeing a ghost until the elf runs from the room like the hounds of hell are at his feet. Could Evlithar possibly alive after all these centuries?

Review: Wonderful addition to the D’Vaire series. Cadlyr gets the shock of his life when he see’s his mate at a elven gathering. Two thousand years have passed since Evlithar faked his death so he would not have to be mated to a Cwylld. Cadlyr being mad was an understatement.

These two had so much to discuss and learn about the other once Cadlyr actually listened without anger. Ev’s life has not been all roses. He’s a slave to his cousin’s mate. That woman pissed me off. She was spoiled, petty and rude. Ev was expected to wait on her hand and foot. When she learned Ev was going to make a go with Cadlyr she whined. Then expected him to spend all his time with her when she was pregnant.

It was a wonder Ev and Cadlyr mated at all. What with all the guilt trips and angst going on. But with the D’Vaires support and caring attitudes they show both Calyr and Ev what it means to be aroud a loving family who does not abuse you.

I really loved this story. I felt for both Cadlyr and Ev. They were both young when they found each other and should have really talked. But Ev takes matters into his own hands denying them both to thousands of years of happiness. Communication is the key to make a happy life.

I cannot wait until the next story. Highly recommended.

Review: I was anxiously looking forward to this story coming out after reading book five. I wanted to know more about Albrecht and if my suspicion was correct. I was happy to say it was but it was also so much more than I ever thought. I loved learning about Albie’s past as tragic as it was. Vann’s past however I suspected after the first couple of paragraph’s of this story.

It as still a wild ride with all the sentinel’s, fallen knights and the new mystery surrounding the three resurrected warlocks. I love this series so much. Drama, suspense, mystery, action and love all packed into each well written story.

This is one of my favorite books in the series so far. I loved reading about Albie and Vann. This couple was definitely done so wrong and for a disgusting reason as homophobia. I was incensed at the way they were treated especially Vann. You’ll have to read the story to find out what I’m talking about as I won’t spoil what happened.

Heart breaking yet joyous is the emotions that come front and center when looking back on this story. I felt so bad for what Albie endured for a very long time. My heart wept at the injustices done to him and Vann yet at the same time I was happy and thrilled with the end of their story.

I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

Highly recommended.

Review: As with the other books in this series a lot is going on. Alaric is trying to live life after the unexpected way Chander left him. Secrets are slowly revealed that could threaten the council. Chander takes it upon himself to set the sentinel’s free and as a result he is in danger of loosing his leadership.

So much more happens in this riveting series. But I do have to say I am more intrigued by the four sentinel’s found secreted away in the sentinel compound than anything else. I have a suspicion that the black skeleton is either the first sentinel made or the sentinel that supposedly went on a rampage centuries before.

I really enjoyed the books in this series except for two things. One, they are long and drawn out and repetitive at times. Two, there is hardly any action in them. Aside from these things the books are awesome.

Great read.

Review: I loved this story about Chander and Alaric. So much happens that it made my head spin. The mysteries were spellbinding, the way the story progressed kept me engrossed to the very end.
I did have a problem with Chander continuously mentioning his mistakes and his subsequent behavior regarding said mistakes. I think he went overboard and it honestly became aggravating to me.

Alaric, I felt so bad for. I could not believe that a race would intentionally imprison another race for thousands of years, that they created then turn around and make sure they instilled fear and hatred for said race.

I was highly disturbed by the other races complete lack of empathy for the sentinels. The necromancers who started this should pay for what they have done in my opinion. Another thing that bothered me Chander’s decision to kick Alaric to the curb after seeing a picture of Alaric with another man. First off Sentinels have no urges till they meet their mate. Then afterwards they only want said mate so I was confused as to why Chander did not remember this. For all his smarts he seemed pretty stupid to me in that regard.

I loved that Alaric was determined to make sure his race gained their freedom from the very race who had imprisoned them. This story tugged on my heart strings and had me on the edge of my seat at other times. I am looking forward to seeing what else happens in this amazing series. Each book has brought to life each character and race and tied them all together in a complex yet satisfying storyline with twist and turns and evil villains.

Great read.

Review: The first 138 pages are about Coneley and Drystan’s meeting when they were younger, 17 and 19, and subsequent mating to the day they died. This part ends with the men as emperors and their death. I liked the details but felt it was drawn out too much as I kept thinking will we ever to get to the reason why the book is named what it is.

The next part begins after Latarian is killed, good riddance I say. I liked the look through Drystan and Conley lives. I felt that Drystan was too hard on Chand when his and Conley’s memories returned.

These two men were bigger than life before they were killed then resurrected. I found myself in awe of all they accomplished in their time period. I was devastated when their lives were taken by greedy Dukes.

I really like this series but still wish there were more action scenes in them.

Great read.

Review: This is an emotional drawn out story about Lorcan and Talfryn, Edion. Edion has no memory of who he is. He was kidnapped and spelled to change his appearance and his memories. Lorcan has spent a very long time thinking his mate left him. With nothing left to live for since the war decimated his kind he is set on vengeance.

I loved Edion’s story. My heart broke for the life that was stolen from him by evil people. I wanted to hold him and promise everything would be o.k. Going to live with D’Vaires was the best thing that happened to him as they cherished him and made sure he was safe.

Lorcan for his part was not at all nice to Edion when he meets him. He thinks Edion did the damage to himself and does not believe he has no memory. These two had an uphill battle. Once the spell was removed Talfryn had his hands full trying to convince Lorcan he did not leave him willingly.

Great story and I loved the fact the D’Vaires got four more members to their group. I really like the series.
