Review:The Hockey Player’s Hearts is a wonderfully sugary sweet friends to lovers book tale that just happens to involve a professional, out and proud, NHL player and an equally out and proud small town school teacher. Neither author was known to me before listening to this audio, nonetheless I looked forward to a sports themed romance.
The story sends professional NHL player who is the Captain of the New York Rangers, and one of few out and proud hockey players (including his best friend and team mate Dimitri), Caleb Carter back to his small hometown in upstate New York. He broke his ankle on the ice and desperately wants out of New York so he can recuperate in peace. While his parents are away on a around the world tour, he gets to spend time with his big sister, who is now the principal of the elementary school they attended. Tagging along, helping his sister he encounters her best friend and Caleb’s school crush. Aaron Price.
Aaron is portrayed as a nerd. When they were kids, Aaron helped Caleb pass math by tutoring him. It was what gave Aaron his passion to become a teacher. College had taken him to California, where he could be himself (i.e. explore his sexuality). He had stayed in LA until a failed relationship with a closeted baseball player and then losing his job, but luck was on his side when his best friend, the principal of his hometown elementary school and Caleb’s sister, handed him a lifeline with a job at the school. Aaron has a lot of baggage from his time in LA and renewing a friendship that could lead to more with Caleb forces Aaron to examine his feelings.
The narration of this audio was done by Finn Sterling, I looked up my audio bookshelf to find out that I’ve only heard Sterling’s narration sometime last year and then again just the other day. Finn Sterling is another wonderful narrator for the Dreamspun Desires house line. The narration for The Hockey Player’s Heart was great, Sterlings put a great voice onto both main characters, as well as a number of minor characters (especially Caleb’s sister and his best friend). He puts the right tone into the main character Aaron, who has a lot of baggage that could sabotage his HEA so that his indecision and his desperate need not to caught by another pro athlete.
Over all this was a fun story. I loved the hockey aspect of the story, it was weaved perfectly throughout and not just used as incidental background information. Caleb and Aaron have a lot of history together, yet these guys developed a lot throughout the story. The only criticism I have is that I occasionally found Aaron’s need to protect his heart because Caleb is a pro athelete a little frustrating and I wanted to shake him. This looks like it’s going to be a series (I’m hoping Caleb’s best friend, Dimitri, will have his own story).
Blurb: Aspiring orchestra conductor Marshall is exhausted after months of auditions without a single job offer. Marshall’s friend Terry recommends a change of scenery and points Marshall in the direction of a dude ranch run by former bull rider Indigo Santana. Marshall is understandably skeptical, but his friend is convincing, and Marshall needs a break, so he agrees to go.
Indigo captures Marshall’s attention but leaves him confused. Indigo’s confidence is shot after an injury ended his rodeo career, and he walks with a slight limp. He hasn’t been anywhere near a bull since he was hurt, and he’s not the most accommodating host. After all, the only reason he keeps guests is because his family ranch is all but bankrupt.
Marshall’s attraction doesn’t go unanswered, which leaves him with a huge dilemma. He’s torn between the possibility of love, something he’s searched for all his life, and the career he’s worked toward for as long as he can remember, which is miles away. From his side of the fence, Indigo doesn’t see how the ranch could ever be enough.
Review: A Courageous Ride is the third book in Andrew Grey’s cowboy/western series, The Bullriders. Any fans of cowboy romances will love this book. I recommend reading books 1 and 2 if you haven’t already because there are a few well developed characters that pop up from the previous books. I love this series for the simplicity of the story, leaving plenty of room for the characters to develop and fall in love in a way that seems to be more organic than quickly falling into bed and bam, they’re in love. Although, in saying that, the men in these stories also have enough baggage that there isn’t a dull moment.
I think, though, that this book is my favorite in the series, I think because there seems to be a lot more at stake in this one than the previous books. Although the over arching theme of the series continues to be moving on and learning how to let love in. it’s really a beautiful thing.
This story takes place on a different ranch than books 1 and 2, a dude ranch that also happens to be a working ranch that is run by Indigo Santana. The Princess Bride and Santana went through my head, especially at the point where Indigo himself talks about the character Inigo Montoya in The Princess Bride.
Indigo is an ex rodeo rider who has was forced to retire after he was severely injured. Now he works his guts out trying to keep his family ranch above water, which is why he has set up the dude ranch part of his business. He is your typical gruff cowboy with a heart of gold, but unlike the previous books, he is a cowboy who isn’t exactly in the closet, but he certainly doesn’t advertise himself either. However, he hides his goodness because his confidence took a real blow when he got the career ending injury, so he likes to act like a grumpy bear and he hasn’t even been near a bull since the accident. In fact, if he wants his guests to meet a bull riding champion, he invites his friend and neighbor, Dante Rivers, over (yep, that’s the guy from book one).
Marshall is a mentally and physically exhausted when we first meet him at the start of the book. He has been going to countless auditions to become an orchestral conductor. However, he is not having much luck. So of course he isn’t at his best, and it is his friend Terry that convinces Marshall to go to a new dude ranch he knows about instead of going back to his difficult parents in New York. Marshall goes to the ranch and quickly finds himself feeling better and within a short time he is starts to be able to access his career options carefully. Even though his controlling mother finds a way to disrupt him. In between all that, he finds a deep connection with Indigo, which brings in a whole lot more complications.
These guys have a long and winding road ahead of them but I particularly found it very easy to relate to Marshall. Although Indigo is a pretty damn awesome character who I only just wanted to give a warm hug!
As usual John Solo has done a fantastic narration, giving each character their own individual voice, which conveys the emotions and assaulting the ear with all the feels you could possibly want. I love to hear Solo’s narration on any book I get on audio and I am rarely disappointed.

This second book is the story of Jacky Douglas and Simon Frizell, aka Frizz. Jacky is a rodeo fanatic and best friend to Ryan from book 1, which is mostly the reason why Ryan and Dante pop up so often. He loves the everything about the rodeo, including the hot men. Jacky is out and proud and when he meets bull rider, Frizz, he definitely likes what he sees. Jacky isn’t exactly what I would call a free spirit, but he knows what he wants and he isn’t afraid of what people think.
Frizz on the other hand, constantly worries about what people thinks. He has two major secrets in his life. One, that he is a bull rider and competes in rodeos on the weekends. Two, that he’s gay. He is terrified he will lose his family and friends if they ever find out. Yet when he meets Jacky properly, he finds himself on a journey of self-discovery. He feels he can’t have Jacky, then he feels he can on do a one-night stand, then this loops around to Jacky deserving a lot better than that. The main plot of this book is Frizz coming to terms with himself, allowing himself to fall in love and basically taking life by the horns and holding on (pun fully intended).
As usual John Solo has done a fantastic narration, giving each character their own individual voice, which conveys the emotions and assaulting the ear with all the feels you could possibly want. I love to hear Solo’s narration on any book I get on audio and I am rarely disappointed.

Review: I love a good cowboy book and throw in the fact that it’s written by Andrew Grey and I’m sold. I love the rugged sexiness of a strong cowboy with a heart of gold as much as the next person. For those into that type of thing then you’ll probably enjoy this book.
The book begins with the high adrenaline scene of cowboy Dante Rivers doing his final ride on the back of a bucking bull in the rodeo finals. He heartbreakingly loses first place by the narrowest of margins (to someone who is a bit of dick, if you ask me, and I guess you have in a way). So to vent his pent up frustration he meets a guy in a bar for a hot and heavy one night stand.
Dante never thought that he would meet Ryan Abbott again. In fact, Ryan, who thought about Dante long after their one-night stand, never expects to get a phone call that would bring him back into Ryan’s orbit again. Ryan is an investment guru who is hired by Dante’s grandfather, Hy to help fix up some old investments. The attraction is sizzling hot but being a cowboy story, the guys have to deal with coming out of the closet and homophobia – because, you know, no cowboy can be gay, right? Dante’s grandfather is also ill, which is another stress in his life. Hy is an old rascal and such a lovable character, his character is wonderfully reflected in Dante, showing the strong link between the two after Hy had raised his grandson from a young age.
The plot line is fairly simple, but it is all heart and emotion. I don’t want to go too much into it because I feel there would be too much spoiler.
For me the narration by John Solo was the icing on the cake. I’ve always enjoyed Solo’s work. He has a fantastic grittiness to his voice that especially suits the voice of a rough and ready cowboy. I especially enjoyed the voice that he gave Dante, although Ryan’s voice was also pretty damn good.

Review: Running to You is a standalone novel by Andrew Grey. Fans of Andrew Grey will be familiar with his trademark formula and may also love his ability to create and development character with deep emotional connections, who are also totally relatable. Suffice to say, if you’re a fan of Grey, you will enjoy this book.
The story is about Billy Joe and Carlos. The story starts with Billy Joe having to sneak off, running away from his white supremacist family, with his much beloved 2-year-old son, Tyler. Tyler is absolutely adorable, by the way. The situation Billy Joe is running away from is pure tragedy. It is no surprise that he feels he must go to the lengths that he does to steal away with his son before his parents could do much more of their monstrous acts with their fellow white supremacist buddies. Billy Joe drives as far as he can before his car breaks down, leaving him stranded in Pennsylvania. He just hopes its far enough away from the horror he left behind in Mississippi.
Billy Joe and Tyler are saved by a good Samaritan, Carlos. Carlos knows what its like to have to run away from an unaccepting family. However, his family situation is nowhere near as frightening Billy Joe’s it’s still a tragedy in itself. Carlos helps Billy Joe and Tyler settle, although it is quickly apparent that the guys have an intense chemistry.
This is a real sweet, slow burn type of story. The guys don’t rush into their relationship as this learn how Tyler also fits into their lives, as well as dealing with their baggage. The families of both guys also make an appearance to cause some drama, but through it all, it becomes increasingly clear that these guys belong together.
The narration for this audio was wonderful. Jack Richmond is a totally new narrator for me and I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed the smooth, southern tones he gave to Billy Joe, he also nailed Billy’s emotion, which for me was the most important part of this story. He also does a remarkable job with Carlos and conveying his emotions, but Billy Joe’s voice is by far the highlight of the audio narration.

Review: Sun & Shadow is the second book in Dirk Greyson’s Day and Knight series. Since having discovered that Dirk Greyson is Andrew Grey’s pen name, I’ve been keen to get my hands on some of his books. I’m quite particular about my suspense books, but I have to say that I have enjoyed the two books in this series.
If you’ve not read the first book, Day and Knight, you have to go back and read it, it is vital as Sun and Shadow picks up where it left off. This is the continuation of Dayton’s, aka Day, and Knighton’s, aka Knight, romance, which is just as rocky as it was in the first book.
Day is still recovering from the gun shot wound he got in Mexico on his mission with Knight. Knight wants to forget about Mexico, everything including his feelings and his failed relationship with Day. The problem is a piece of art that went missing in WWII means that Scorpion, the agency the guys work for, bring the guys together again. The Russians are desperate to get their hands on the artwork. To stop a delicate international relations situation from exploding Day and Knight need to find the art work. Knight is the big tough guy with all the skills he got from this marine training, he also possesses some of the brains of the operation. While Day is a great deal of the brains and the intel of the operation. Their abilities compliment each other. Their professional life together fits together as well as their personal life. Regardless of how well they fit though, with two argumentative men it makes their professional relationship just as rocky as their personal.
This is a fun, Cold War kind of espionage story line. In fact, I have to say that I enjoyed this second installment a bit more than I enjoyed the first book. Day and Knight are two very complex characters and their character development tends to raise tensions between them rather than ease them. These guys are fighters and so it’s so easy to believe that once they get their acts together, that they really do belong to each other. Just like in the first book, the narration was totally top notch reflected the tone, emotion and suspense necessary to pull of this story.

Review:Buried Passions by Andrew Grey is something of a sweet diversion. One of the sugary sweet type stories, which I have to say is something different to what I’m used to from Grey. Still, this book has the same flow and use of language that I associate with Grey’s writing and something that I really connect to.
The story starts off with Jonah, a Broadway actor who has dreams of stardom. However, he is stuck when the show he is in ends and there doesn’t appear to be anything on the horizon for him. Yet, when the uncle he never knew dies, Jonah leaves the bright lights of New York for the small town where his uncle had loved and had been loved by the entire community. Jonah had a complicated relationship with his parents which plays into the uncle story line. As we get to know Jonah, we find out more about his family and the wonderful uncle that he missed out on knowing. However, Jonah doesn’t expect to discover that part of his inheritance is also the old town cemetery which is how he meets Luka.
Luka is a kind soul and he had no choice but to leave his homeland of Bosnia. Luka was in trouble when Jonah’s uncle befriended and helped him. Luka mourns the death of his friend, but he is on a road to self-discovery as he opens his heart to Jonah. With Jonah probably needing to go back to New York at any moment, as soon as his agent can get him an audition, neither men fight their growing attraction and the love that is starting to form.
The only real criticism that I have for this audio is the narration. While in general I enjoyed Joel Lesley’s narration, I had a little bit of trouble with the accent used for Luka throughout the book. It sometimes felt a little disjointed. I’m not too sure how to explain it but suffice to say that it didn’t really gel with me too much.
However, despite my thoughts on the narration of Luka’s accent this was a sweet romance. I liked the chemistry of Jonah and Luka. They were sweet together but there was a lot of hidden depths to both guys that I really appreciated.

Review: I just recently discovered that Dirk Greyson is the pen name for Andrew Grey, and as I’ve discovered these are mostly intrigue, mystery or suspense type of books. So naturally, being that I love reading everything by Andrew Grey, I just have to give Dirk Greyson a go as well.
I do like a good suspense, but I have to admit that my only reservations for this book is the fact that it looks like an ongoing saga between the two. I’m not normally one for big epic sagas in my MM romances – I usually save that for my science-fiction and historical fantasies.
Nonetheless, this was a enjoyable book, although I feel that this is one of the types of books that I wouldn’t enjoy much reading as I did enjoy the audio narration. Andrew McFerrin is a wonderful narrator, and his tone and pace were absolutely on point for this.
The story is set in a spy agency called Scorpion, where Dayton Ingram, aka Day, wants nothing more than a chance to prove himself as a field agent. As it is he is a wicked technical analyst. Finally his chance has come and he is teamed up with Knighton, aka Knight. Knight is a true mystery, he was a former marine who subsequently became an alcoholic after the death of his family. Now that he has managed to become sober his boss has offered Knight one more chance to hold himself together in the field and get his job done. The problem is that Knight is not so good at communication, which frustrates Day to no end.
The two men are working a terrorist case in the Yucatan. They go undercover as a couple on a gay cruise. Which is all well good except for the fact they are both so deep in the closet that they are probably closer to Narnia than they are to accepting their individual sexualities.
The set up is good and the two have a complex chemistry. I’m not sure if you could call it a love hate type of thing, so I’m just going to stick to this being a complex relationship. And this is why the story is ongoing – Knight in particular has some pretty major demons to face. In fact, it’s not a stretch to begin to think that perhaps a relationship with Day is not the best thing for Knight now. However, despite falling into bed with each other, they need solve their case.
You need to be a fan of suspense or mystery to really like this story. The romance, such as it is, take more of a back seat to the constant battling of personal demons and terrorism. This isn’t a fairytale ending by any means, and I’m moving onto book 2 next to see what happens to Day and Knight. Both guys are likable, but at the same time they both need to work on their communication. The sexual chemistry and the suspense created by the terrorism plot line makes this an enjoyable read.

Review: As I always say at the start of every Andrew Grey book review I write – I love Andrew Grey’s books. I find it so easy to connect emotionally with the words on the page (or in my ear in the case of audiobooks), as well as with the wonderfully flawed characters Grey introduces us to.
Heart Unheard is the second in the Hearts Entwined series. Heart Unheard is everything that I have come to expect from Grey’s books. This is a slow burn, sweet romance that is totally relatable. One thing that I really love about this series is that one half of the featured couple has some sort of physical disability, once again lending towards my thought that all the heroes are perfectly flawed.
Heart Unheard is about Brent and Scott, Brent is the manager of the garage where he and Scott work. They’ve been attracted to each other for years, however, Brent has worried over the fact that he’s Scott’s boss and that he is older. All that changes when fate steps in. Scott is injured in a car accident. He is lucky to be alive, getting away with only a brain injury that has caused Scott to become deaf. This brings Brent to his senses and what follows is a wonderful little romance of two ordinary guys dealing with a less than ideal situation. Scott is a survivor and he needs to learn that even though he doesn’t see himself as whole anymore, Brent doesn’t want to lose his chance for a happily ever after.
I’ve become familiar with Greg Tremblay’s narration through his work on a few other of Andrew Grey’s books. The timbre of his voice really does suit Grey’s writing and I like how he manages to get the tone of the characters, especially when they are going through trauma.
As I said, this is a sweet romance, there is plenty of emotion and love without the need for melodrama or unnecessary angst. I’m not a fan of books that make a song and dance out of age gaps (to me 10 years or less is not a big deal) and that is just another thing for me to like about this book. My only criticism I have of this book is that sometimes I thought the pace dropped off a little and I found my attention wandering. However, I feel that the narration made up for this and enhanced the slower sections.

Review:I love reading anything by Andrew Grey and will do so without taking too much notice of the blurb. I love his writing style, I always connect with it and always feel the emotions of the characters that he weaves throughout the prose.
Taming the Beast, the first book in Grey’s Tales from St Giles series, and for the most part is based partially of the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast. I love books that are either inspired by or are simply a modern MM retelling of the classic fairytales. Here, Grey only takes elements of the old tale and crafts the lives of people in an idyllic, sleepy town which is dependent on the Bartholomew family porcelain business to hire a great deal of the locals.
Dante Bartholomew takes on the “Beast” role in this story. His wife died under somewhat mysterious circumstances, which Dante refuses to talk about. Instead he chooses to live the life a recluse, though respected and liked by the people in his family’s mansion who are the only people he interacts with day to day. He doesn’t want to face the past and he tries to not let the town’s nickname, the Beast of St Giles, get to him. Dante is forced to go to an annual business dinner and from the moment he meets counsellor for the local rec centre, Beau Clarity (get it? Similar to Belle?) his life changes forever.
Beau is relatively new to town. He’s moved when he took the job as counselor to the family, especially the kids, affected by drug abuse, among other things. Beau brings a light to Dante’s life that he had thought had been long lost. Beau in some ways brings out the best in Dante and vice versa, but most importantly Beau helps the people around him see that Dante is a lot less sinister than gossip says.
This is a gentle type of romance. Dante and Beau need to go on a journey before they can properly embrace love and life together. They have a great chemistry that is enhanced by the fact that their story doesn’t have the guys tumbling in bed and declaring “I love you” when the story barely starts. The character development shows the depths of emotions these guys are capable of.
I really enjoyed the narration by Jack Wesley. I’m not overly familiar with him, but his voice and the voices he gave the characters were really well done. He conveyed the tone and emotion of the plot wonderfully. Dante especially had a significant storyline where we eventually find out what his demons are, and he slowly has to let go of his baggage. Nailing this part of the story was the most essential part for the narrator to get right in my opinion, and Wesley played it just right.
This is the type of book that would appeal to a wide audience. There is no instalove, which I know is a deal breaker to a lot of people. Equally, I know that there are a lot of people also drawn by the whole fairytale type element as well. Fans of Andrew Grey will no doubt enjoy this too, although it is somewhat different to what we normally get from Grey.
I’m actually about to start to read book 2 in this series and I’m super excited. I think I’d also love to hear the audio of book 2 as well. Really cool start to a series.

Review: OK, so two things: First off, TJ Klune is amazingly awesome and I love and adore anything he does, no matter how much the man makes me cry, like ugly cry so bad and I never learn my lesson and this almost always happens either on a train or a plane. The second thing is that I absolutely adore this series, Bear, Otter and the Kid was the first TJ Klune book and I have enjoyed (and laughed and cried) as I followed all the books to this one, book four which is the final book in the series.
If you’ve not read the previous books in the series, you need to read them before getting onto this book. If you’ve not been read the previous books and picked up this one, what rock have you been living under? Or I am just so obsessed (official Klunatic here) that I’m living under my own rock.
Sean Crisden has leant his voice to this series and has done an amazing job. In fact, the only book in this series he didn’t narrate was book 2. He has nailed each character, with all their quirkiness and fun intact, and essentially matches with my mental “audio images” I had imagined as I had read the actual books. I love the tone he has brought to the story and also added personality he injected into the story with just his voice. Honestly, in short, Crisden provided a solid narration.
This series is a story about life, because a lot of unpredictable shit happens – especially to poor old Bear. It celebrates the family that you create with the people that you surround yourself with. It is about finding happiness, finding a way to be able to breathe again and moving on from the horrible shit to embrace what could become great happiness. The Long and Winding Road leaves off where the Art of Breathing finished. But it also picks up from books 1 and 2. Look, it’s kinda complicated. Books 1 and 2 are about Bear and Otter. Then in book 3, The Art of Breathing, its about The Kid (Ty). Now in book 4, we are back to Bear and Otter being the central characters. With the exception the epilogues, which is written from Otter’s POV, the three books following Bear and Otter, are told from Bear’s POV.
Bear McKenna has survived the years raising his little brother after his mother split when Ty was 6 and after some initial dramas (starting in book 1) he has fallen in love with his best friend’s older brother, Otter. The pair have navigated life together, not only having the ups and downs of their own relationship, but the issues that come with raising a mentally damaged child prodigy (who happens to be a vegan terrorist). Now that Ty has grown up, Bear knows that despite expecting something bad to happen that will take away his happiness, he will do anything to make Otter happy. And part of that is having kids of their own via a surrogate. Except Bear’s mother who abandoned him and Ty has now died, and now Bear has a twelve year old sister who needs him just as Tyson had once needed him. Bear sees the parallels between his two younger siblings, and it is heartbreaking at times. However, Bear never questions what he has to do and Otter is there to support him 100%.
Bear and Ty are both mentally damaged because of their mother’s abandonment. They need a lot of help and support and the nature of this kind of things means that there are a lot of times where things aren’t easy for the brothers.
This story ties up all that has been happening and brings up to conclude probably about twenty years of a full life lived. There is a lot of flashback to things from Bear’s POV that were covered in The Art of Breathing, as well as flashbacks to other times in the first two books. There is particularly a lot said about perhaps the most important scene in this whole series, when Bear remembers the letter that his mother left when she abandoned both boys, two days before Bear graduated high school and changed his life (and plans) forever. Yes, there was a lot of heartache, especially as Bear has his flashbacks. There is a wonderful and zany cast of characters – Otter’s and Bear’s family – who we’ve known from the start. Creed – Bear’s best friend and Otter’s brother – has a hilarious dislike for hipsters (a great Easter egg for those that love How to Be A Normal Person by Klune). Creed’s wife, Anna, is Bear’s ex, who he was with before Otter came back on the scene and she is a total fire cracker, a pretty amazing lady. Tyson, the Kid, has gotten himself back on track, finished college and has found his man and has learnt to breathe. Another great Easter egg is fans of Klune’s At First Sight series (starting with Tell Me It’s Real) is the appearance of Kori/Corey as one of Ty’s best friends. Kori/Corey is also a friend of Paul and Vince in At First Sight and they will have their own story next year, I believe. We are teased with the beginning of that story and the moment fans of both series no doubt wanted to see – Bear meeting Vince, if only on Skype and only to see the two most neurotic characters come together in a clash of fabulousness and craziness.
I feel I can’t bring justice to this book in my words. It is so much more complicated because we are talking about the lives of Bear and Otter, but also that of at least five other people, plus the people that were lost along the way. I loved the book, from start to finish and I made so much Wookie cry face as I tried to hold back the tears, only to full on ugly cry. This was a wonderfully satisfying ending to this series. As much as I hate the idea of no more adventures from Bear and Otter, all good things must come to an end and this was absolutely perfect.

Review: It’s taken me a couple books to get the message but I got it now – Dirk Greyson is Andrew Grey’s pen name for stories that are all about action and danger and less about the romance (thought the physicality if definitely there!). Since I love Andrew Grey’s books, I’m really getting into his books as Dirk Greyson. I will read just about anything, so I’m easily pleased for the most part.
The narrator of this audio, Mark Westfield, is a new narrator for me. I really enjoyed his voice, it suited the parts of both MCs, who are strong men in their own ways. Westfield’s voice had the necessary grit to pull off the voice of Mack and enough soft determination to pull off being Brantley.
So, yeah, as you can tell from the previous paragraph, the MCs are Mack (that is Sheriff Mackenzie “Mack” Redford) and Brantley Calderone. Both guys have a bit of baggage and are interesting characters that have their fair share of development. Mack returned to his hometown to become sheriff after finding out that life in the city wasn’t for him. He’s not out to the town, he’s not fully in the closet either – the man just doesn’t advertise his sexuality. Mostly because he does know that his job could be put in jeopardy.
Brantley Calderone has packed up and left New York after making an obscene amount of money (something he doesn’t advertise) but also in desperate need to get away from the craziness that is New York City. The problem is, as soon as he moves into town, the locals aren’t exactly rolling out the welcome mat for the new stranger in town. Things get worse when he finds a woman murdered on his porch.
Luckily Brantley has an alibi but it’s going to take all of Mack’s skills to protect Brantley and solve the murder. From the start the race is on to unravel the mystery, that involves the fact that Brantley brought the old ranch in the first place. This is a fun story and the chemistry between the two guys is great. Greyson’s style makes this something closer to a slow burn, despite the romance not really being front and center. This is more people that want the adrenaline rush and those who want to put the pieces together to solve the crime before the author tells you.

Review:Shared Revelations is a novella by Andrew Grey, who praise in each and every review I write for his books. I’m not sure if it’s meant to take place in the same world as his Hearts Entwined series, but the epilogue made me think of Hearts Unheard.
The narrator for this quick audio (seriously, not much more than an hour!) is JJ Boyer, who was an unknown narrator to me. I really liked his tone. I think the tone really matched as someone who was reminiscing about the past, it was simply delightful.
The story is simple. This is the coming age story of Eddie, who in the 60s finds himself feeling things that he had learnt to be wrong. He has great love and affection for his best friend, Jack, who is partially deaf, but has a massive crush on baseball player, Johnny. Eddie has to carefully discover himself and sort out his feelings for Johnny, while keeping that taboo part of himself secret from everyone he loves, including Jack.
This is a sweet, no fuss story. I suspect if this had been a full-blown novel there would have been a load of angst and homophobia and terror.Since there was no room for that we are left with the bare bones – a boy growing up, discovering his desires and navigating first love. I really like the ending too, wonderful until the end!

Review:A Kind of Home is book 4 in Lane Hayes’ totally awesome series, A Kind of Stories. The books follow the lives and loves of what has now become one of the biggest rock bands in the world (perhaps a little emo, ala My Chemical Romance).
If you haven’t read or heard the previous books in the series I strongly recommend you do so, if only to get a handle and get to know the other members of the band and their partners who feature in the background. I have devoured and adored all the previous books in the series and this one was just as awesome to hear the audio.
It’s been a while since I’ve heard or read the previous books, I remember the audio being pleasing but I don’t remember if Seth Clayton has been the narrator for the whole series. Regardless, Clayton has done a marvelous job articulating the tone of the two MCs and absolutely nailing the emotions of both guys. The MCs are vastly different men and I think that their personalities and their chemistry was well reflected in the narration.
The story itself follows the guitarist of Spiral, Isaac Dalton. He is exhausted after relentless touring and recording. The bandmates are friends and so even though they live in each other’s pockets they care for each other. Which is why, when Isaac gets some messages that leads him and the record label to believe that he has a stalker, he doesn’t want to worry the guys unnecessarily. However, when he gets home from tour and finds a house guest when all he wants is to be alone, one that was meant to have only stayed a week months ago.
That houseguest is Adam McBride. Something of a ghost from Isaac’s past. Adam is the older brother of Isaac’s best friend. The McBride family were the bright spot in Isaac’s formative years. He was the adopted child in a small town where his parents got divorced and his mother ran off with his biological father. It’s a complicated back story, which is why the story is there in the first place. As I said, the youngest McBride, Ned, was Isaac’s best friend. The middle McBride taught Isaac how to play guitar and the oldest McBride, Adam was Isaac’s first crush. The problem was, Adam was straight, wasn’t he?
Now that Adam is in New York with Isaac the two get to really know the real men that they have become. Adam is recently divorced and needs to get his head together. He’s pretty much got himself sorted by the time he meets up with Isaac again, but the ex-builder/tradie is now an aspiring baker and has plans to open a bakery in his and Isaac’s small hometown. The two men have a lot to tackle as they get to know each other more as adults and as men who are sexually attracted to each other with a hint of more romantic things to come. The main thing they have to deal with is the craziness of Isaac’s career, including crazy fans, potential crazy stalker fans and zero privacy. They also need to somehow compromise Adam’s dreams too. I love the fact that Adam’s wishes for a career wasn’t totally ignored in favor of Isaac’s insane life as a rock star.
Okay, and this is where I go pop culture. First off, with the name Spiral, all I can think of is Mystic Spiral, the band that was in the MTV cartoon Daria. I think I’ve been waiting for the whole series for someone to go “Hi, we’re Spiral, but we’re going to change the name”, The other thing is that I’ve listened to this audio on the back of watching Bohemian Rhapsody (which is all kinds of fantastically awesome). So, I think my enjoyment of this book was definitely influenced by my love for the movie, mostly because I found my mind wandering back to the movie because there were definitely some shared themes besides the obvious.

Before they can explore the possibilities, they must figure out what information Granger had – that others are willing to kill for – or that possible heartache could become a certainty.
Review: I don’t know if I’ve been living under a rock or not, but I didn’t even know that Andrew Grey had a pen name and that it was Dirk Greyson. That being said, I was excited and expected good things because I absolutely adore Andrew Grey and happily devour every book he releases.
I am so happy to say that I also love the writing in my first venture into the writings of Dirk Greyson. I can’t really go by one book, so far, but I get the feeling that perhaps Greyson is the grittier, more dangerous persona to Grey’s usual sweet, sensual stories of finding love and expanding families.
I was also really happy to hear Dorian Bane’s narration. The danger element of the book really suited his tone of voice. I also love just hearing his deep, rich tones as well. His voice suited both MCs of this story. Both men are strong in their own way and his tone matched this characteristic in them.
The two characters we are following are Forge Reynolds and Gage Livingstone.
The two men had developed a close relationship seventeen years prior, when they were both barely out of their teens and in the army. As a medical specialist of some sort, Forge ended up by the bedside of the grievously wounded Gage Livingstone. He kept the man company during his recovery and romance blossomed. When they parted they planned to continue their forbidden romance but that wasn’t meant to be (and we do find out why pretty quickly).
Now in the present, Forge is going through a messy divorce when he finds his husband dead in their backyard. Forge’s friend, and divorce lawyer, calls a security agency he uses for client protection. This brings in Gage, the owner of the company, back into Forge’s life as he tries desperately to hang on. Gage will protect Forge at all costs. However, he also has to make sure that the man he loves, the one that got away, survives and isn’t killed because of some nefarious goings on which had involved Forge’s dead husband.
This story is more action than it is romance, but there is still plenty of romance to be had. Both men are strong and have strong morals, so they don’t start humping like rabbits just because life has brought them together again. The action is the substance of the book and it was a totally enjoyable read (listen, whatever).
Fans of Andrew’s Grey’s Carlisle Cops and Carlisle Deputies series will definitely enjoy this audio book.
Carrying scars and regrets, River Darcourt avoids too much intimate contact. Among his friends, he is known as a quiet loner. Forget about love. It’s not something he will consider…until sweet, young, and tempting Morgan Hayes becomes his housemate. River closed his heart long ago, but the attraction is impossible to deny.
Morgan Hayes needs a change. He is moving out of his critical father’s home and in with his friends, including his secret/not-so-secret crush, River. Having feelings for River is a terrible idea. But what is a guy to do when the annoyingly sexy mechanic is just across the hall?
While Morgan has overcome ugliness and is ready for love, he’s just not sure River ever will be. They have both experienced pain in their lives. So Morgan dares River to take a chance, and love will either break their fractured hearts in more pieces or, just possibly, make them whole again.
Review: Secrets of You is the fourth book in Skylar M Cate’s Sunshine and Happiness series. While I think it would probably be best to read the series in order, as there are many overarching stories characters that are present throughout all the books, it isn’t exactly vital to do so as all vital information from previous books is retold for the reader with adequate detail. In fact, I will be the first to admit that despite loving the books I have simply forgotten to get around to reading the first book.
The narration for the by Michael Stellman was truly wonderful. Stellman is a new narrator to me and I was really pleased that I enjoyed every minute of his narration, even through some of the most angst-ridden scenes (I’m not a fan of major angst).
For anyone that has read or heard the audio from any of the previous three books in the series, like me, was probably looking forward to this story. River Darcourt has been present from the start and was front and center for a while in book two, where his dead lover’s long-lost brother came onto the scene. He had popped up again when he had quietly saved a young man from a beating and attempted rape, Morgan Hayes. River has been a very quiet but prominent character who withdrew from the world after the death of his lover, Brandon, a lover who had insisted that they keep their relationship secret. Brandon was just another lot of scars on River’s already damaged soul.
