Blurb: Survival is hard enough in the outer colonies—what chance does love have?

Life can be harsh and lonely in the outer colonies, but miner-turned-farmer Abraham Bauer is living his dream, cultivating crops that will one day turn the unforgiving world of Alkirak into paradise. He wants more, though. A companion—someone quiet like him. Someone to share his days, his bed, and his heart.

Gael Sonnen has never seen the sky, let alone the sun. He’s spent his whole life locked in the undercity beneath Zhemosen, running from one desperate situation to another. For a chance to get out, he’ll do just about anything—even travel to the far end of the galaxy as a mail-order husband. But no plan of Gael’s has ever gone smoothly, and his new start on Alkirak is no exception. Things go wrong from the moment he steps off the shuttle.

Although Gael arrives with unexpected complications, Abraham is prepared to make their relationship work—until Gael’s past catches up with them, threatening Abraham’s livelihood, the freedom Gael gave everything for, and the love neither man ever hoped to find.

Review: Gael is a man desperate and at the end of his rope. Living in a city under the ground he has never seen the sun or anything above ground. On top of that he is indenture to the Trass family for debts he and his brother accumulated. Sent on a mission to take out a target with a rifle he fails to make the killing shot. Scared he runs to his friend Price for help to get off the planet as far as he can get.

Abraham puts a companion request on a site and he wants someone long term. He’s lonely. As an ex miner turned farmer his life takes on the same routine everyday on a planet where the sun is deadly so he lives in the crevasses. He’s made a good life and now seeks companionship. When he sees Gael’s profile he knows he’s the one and sends a message.

But not all is as it seems. trouble is following Gael and will intrude. Not to mention the harsh living on a planet where one mistake can mean death. Unforgiving storms, deadly poisonous mists plus people looking for a way to advance or make someone pay. I loved this story. It was not just about the relationship between these two men and the little girl who follows Gael. There is so much more to it. I found it to be quite entertaining and at several times edge of your seat worthy.

Fantastic read.

Avery Rivers is a country music sensation, selling records by the millions and playing to sold-out crowds. But behind that persona is Robert, a burned-out musician cracking under the pressure. He’s unable to write any new songs, and he wants out of the business—at least for a while. He changes his appearance and finds honest, hard work in Jackson, Wyoming. Maybe getting to be a regular guy for a while will get him past his block.

Hy Whitely was a championship bull rider until he watched his best friend thrown in the arena and decided the rodeo circuit was no longer the place for him. He wants to be plain old Zeke for a while, and when he returns to his family ranch, he bumps right into Robert—a one-night stand from his last rodeo appearance who is now working there as a ranch hand.

The heat between the men could sear the grass off the range, but each one is hiding a secret. Robert and Zeke, the men behind the public images, fall in love, but can they hold on when Avery and Hy are pulled back into the spotlight?

Zahra Owens’ Greatest Hits Bundle

Title: Zahra Owens’ Greatest Hits

Author: Zahra Owens

Genre:  Contemporary

Length: Novels/Bundle (806 pages)

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (29th January 2016)

Heat Level: Explicit

Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts (Combined)

Blurb: Don’t miss these four contemporary romances from Zahra Owens:

In Diplomacy, Jack and Lucas start a passionate relationship, which continues long after their partners return. Diplomatic circles are notoriously conservative though, and they each know that the right woman by their side makes a very significant contribution to their success. Will they be able to make the right choices in their professional and personal lives? Or will they need to sacrifice one for the other?

In Façade, Jonas Hunter, high-class body for hire, meets his match in new client Nicky Bryant, an effeminate, tantrum-throwing, attention-seeking bad boy of Paris haute couture, everything he despises in a man. But Jonas soon learns they each carefully maintain a façade.

In The Hand-me-down, Jez pays a visit to his old friend Nick, who introduces his much younger lover, Jaime… and then asks Jex to look after him when Nick is gone.

And in the reader-favorite Western Clouds and Rain, Flynn doesn’t bargain for being captivated gentle, lonely Gable, who captures his heart and moves Flynn to take on an incredible burden: saving Gable’s ranch.

Reviewer: Prime

Review:  Usually, I have to say that I really have enjoyed Dreamspinner’s Greatest Hits bundles, immensely. I also have enjoyed a couple of Zahra Owens’ books in the past as well. So you might understand why I am feeling rather confused.

However, I do know two of the reasons that meant my enjoyment was diminished. There are two things that I know many readers of MM romance do not like, one, is sex with women happening (even in the minutest detail) on page, and two, I know that there are many of us who do not like to read about cheating couples (or even worse, cheating that never is really addressed, just overlooked).

But each story is enjoyable in its own right, let me go through them:

Diplomacy ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 stars

Definitely my favourite of the entire collection. This is about US diplomat Jack, and his life living as a closeted and married man. Then one day while on assignment in Belgium, he meets one of the delegates from the English embassy, Lucas. There are sparks as soon as the pair meets.

This was enjoyable from start to finish. The characters are hot and the sexual tension is explosive. My only major criticism was that the ending could have had subtitles to denote the amount of time that passed instead of making reader calculate in their heads what’s happened. Ok, that might be lazy, but I like to think not.

Façade  ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

This is about male escort Jonas, and his newest client and world famous fashion designer, Nicky.

It’s a pretty basic story, on the whole. It starts a bit like Pretty Woman except that Jonas is headstrong and arrogant, whereas Nicky is insecure with himself – so nothing like Pretty Woman at all. The sex is explosive between the pair but in my mind I can’t get past how selfish Jonas can be towards Nicky, particularly when it comes to his work. As I said, Nicky is an insecure guy so Jonas probably needed to spend more time cultivating his serious relationship before going to work.

Hand-Me-Down ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

A volcano eruption in Iceland leaves Jez stranded in Barcelona after all the airports shut down. At a bit of a loose end, he visits an old friend, Nick, who introduces Jez to his younger lover, Jamie. Then Jez finds out Nick is dying and in some sort of twisted inheritance, Nick wants Jez to look after Jamie once he’s gone.

An odd start, that’s for sure, but this is a thoroughly enjoyable book, despite the dark tone from the outset.

There was only one main problem after the darkness subsided after the first third of the book – we then go through two thirds of being a vinter, or learning to be a vinter. While the information and research is clearly evident in the writing, I felt sometimes there needed to be a bit pizzazz and just more going on in the plot between Jamie and Jez in general.

Western Clouds and Rain ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

This and Façade are both competing in my mind for least favourite story of the bundle. By this time I’m quite used to Zahra’s formula by now, which includes MF sex and cheating, which may involve women but in this one it definitely did involve the woman.

The main couple are Gable and Flynn. Gable is lonely because the poor sod put his heart and soul in with one person, Grant, who decided to jump into bed with Gable’s married female best friend, Calley. Ok, that part of the story line has officially pissed me off because clearly Gable is too nice for his own good where those two are concerned. These two, Grant and Calley, take up almost the entirety of the second half of the book with their major plot line. In fact, really it was almost like 2 different books because Calley’s pregnancy takes up so word space. Honestly, I’m not sure how much I like the idea of another friend, Hunter, falling for Grant (because that is book 2).

Yet, at the same time, Gable is also a bit of an arse, because after his experiences his relationship with Flynn started off with Gable blatantly using the guy for sex and as a house keeper. But I can push those reservations aside. On the bright side, I think Gable deserves the gentle touch and love that comes with being with Flynn. The two have great chemistry and Flynn is man enough to heal all Gable’s hurts.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: After years apart Colt and Avery give it another try. This time they communicate with each other and talk out things. There was a lot of issues the two had going on and to make it work they had to be addressed.

I will admit I did not feel this book was as good as the first one but nevertheless it still had it’s dramatic side as we follow Avery an Colt’s progress through the book. The family dynamic felt a bit rushed as one second the father was against his son and seeming the next he accepted him. That was a bit much to me.

At times Avery seemed I don’t know a little to pushy or bossy, I cannot really think of the right word for him at the moment. Colt was sweet but at the same time I got frustrated with both characters from time to time. Other than it was a good story.

Good read.

Bully For You by Catt Ford ~ Audiobook

Blurb: What could be hunkier than a cowboy? Not much, according to Martin Du Bois. He convinces two friends that a visit to the rodeo is every gay man’s wet dream, and so the three of them gaily (and I do mean gaily) set off to watch cowboy asses in action.

A visit to a bar after the event gets Martin closer to the action than he ever thought possible, and he meets Jesse Cumberland, the man who caught his eye in the ring and made his rhinestones sparkle. Instant attraction leads to a one-night stand that gets under Martin’s insouciant skin and causes him to rethink his determination not to get involved emotionally. When Jesse invites Martin to his ranch, the visit is almost derailed by Martin’s realization that they lead very different lives. As a flaming city queer, he sees no way to fit with the solid, athletic Jesse. It’s up to Jesse to see if he can change Martin’s mind.

Review: I have not had a chance to read any books by this author but when I was searching through audibles for something to listen to the title of this caught my eye. Then I saw the cover and burst out laughing. I knew I had to check it out. The blurb was not only catchy but very quirky. I mean rhinestone cowboy came to my mind. It has its serious moments but the humor was fascinating as well.

Now when I first started listening to Cory’s voice for the guys I was at first not impressed. I mean they came off just wrong to my mind but the more I listened the more I saw that this was the perfect voice for each guy. I mean you have a feisty little guys going to their first rodeo. Oh that was just priceless. In the end I came to the conclusion that Cory was just perfect for this story.

Martin wanted to see cowboys and he was determined his friends were going to love it. I mean what is better than sexy cowboys, tight jeans and some hot action in tight jeans. What could possibly go wrong. Then afterwards the bar where the cowboys were suppose to go. I mean nothing could go wrong at all. There was one cowboy that stood out to him and it would seem that Jesse was just as interested.

Jesse wasn’t out but damn if his feelings for Martin weren’t getting stronger. Inviting Martin out to the ranch sounds perfect but will it work for them.

I loved Martin and hope to hear more about him and his friends. Martin is very out there and very colorfull. He is easy to fall in love with. To him he will be thirty soon and life is over. Which was a funny little statement.

Cory did great with this book and I look forward to hearing more. This story was cute and quite a bit of fun. I loved the humor that was coming out of this story but I also loved that there were some serious moments as well. I loved how it starts from the meeting, to the sly glances, hot sex and into something stronger with each character. Also they had their ups and downs like most couples have but that each were willing to fight for what they want.

I enjoyed this story and can’t wait to hear more from not only this author but the Narrator as well.

I loved listening to it and would definitely recommend it.

Blurb: Welcome to Clean Slate Ranch: home of tight jeans, cowboy boots, and rough trails. For some men, it’s a fantasy come true.

Mack Garrett loves the rolling hills surrounding his Northern California dude ranch. Leading vacationers on horse trails with his two best friends is enough—romance is definitely not in the cards. When a sexy tourist shows up at Clean Slate, he’s as far from Mack’s type as can be. So why is the handsome city slicker so far under his skin in less than a day?

Roughing it in the middle of nowhere isn’t anywhere near Wes Bentley’s idea of fun. Then he lays eyes on the gruffest, hottest papa bear he’s ever seen. But Mack is as hard to pin down as he looks—distant, sharp-tongued, and in desperate need of a shave. Until a campout gone wrong strands both men in the mountains with nothing to do but get to know each other.

Mack intends to keep his closely guarded heart out of Wes’s very talented hands. But for a seven-day cowboy, Wes is packing some long-term possibility. The cold country air can do wonders for bringing bodies together—but it will take more than that to bridge the distance between two men whose lives are worlds apart.

Review: Wes and Mack are two men who are out, have been hurt and vowed to never give their heart to anyone again. From the time these two meet there seems to be a spark and both have no qualms about a night of fun together.

As the story progresses circumstances throw them together to get to know one another. I loved the background on both as they each discover why the other has reservations about more than a one night stand. These despite a rocky start with a lot of flirting were hot together.

I loved both these characters and how they helped each heal their wounded hearts to take a chance again on love.

The only thing I did not like was it seemed drawn out more than it needed to be. Other than that it was a really good story.

Great read.

Jules Wingate hopes to start over in Mercy as the schoolmaster after a scandal sent him and his son fleeing their former home. But he discovers he’s left one bad situation for another when he encounters his former student and lover, Carlos. Review: Carlos is a hard worker and takes his job at the ranch seriously. When an old flame shows up Carlos takes it upon himself to show the man he is not the way the man remembers.

Jules and his stepson Albert move to Mercy under stressful circumstances. Upon learning that the ranch has horses Al is ecstatic and quickly becomes a part of the everyday hustle and bustle of it. Jules on the other hand is wary due to Carlos being his ex lover and the man who broke his heart.

A truly wonderful and sweet story about forgiveness, love and second chances. I loved that Jules did not give in right away and made Carlos prove he was a changed man.

Great read.

Blurb: Boston in 1888 is quite urbane, but unfortunately for Gil Porter, that isn’t the same thing as being understanding. When his sexuality is exposed by the scandalous suicide of his lover, Gil is exiled to the small town of Mercy, Texas, by his domineering father, George, who believes life on Vernon Porter’s ranch will cure Gil of his “unnatural” desires. Grieving and ashamed, Gil is determined to keep his distance from everyone until he can return home. To his surprise, he finds acceptance at Bent Oak Ranch, especially from Matt Grayson, the handsome son of the ranch foreman. Knowing he must fight his attraction to Matt, Gil courts a local girl, but an unexpected encounter with Matt leads to his discovery of Matt’s feelings for him. Torn between Matt and his desire to be “normal,” between returning to his old life and building a new one in Texas, Gil is faced with a choice—appeasing his father or becoming the man Matt knows he can be.

Review: Gil is shipped to Mercy, Texas to toughen up and become a man according to his father who found out he likes other men. Gil is unhappy and miserable and it shows. When he arrives at the ranch he meets Matt.

This is a back and forth story with Gil questioning himself and trying to come to terms with himself. While I understood it also got tiresome eventually. Matt was not about to be put off and does not let Gil’s attitude change his feelings for the man.

The details of the story were so good it almost felt like I was back in that time era. I was happy that the ranch offered a safe haven for gay men in a time whee is was not safe being found out. Enjoyable and entertaining.

Great read.

(Clean Slate Ranch 01)
by

A.M. Arthur

Welcome to Clean Slate Ranch: home of tight jeans, cowboy boots, and rough trails.

K-Lee Klein

Country singer turned rancher Brett Taylor fought his way out of the bottle, so he could have JT Campbell in his life.  JT’s patience, intelligence, and humor broke through Brett’s walls of depression, and now the once-isolated rancher and his young California guy in search of himself are together on Brett’s Texas ranch.

While Brett and JT are more in love than ever, they’re still dealing with past baggage and learning how to move forward. Brett’s former lover casts a long shadow over their lives—one JT tries to pretend doesn’t bother him. Can Brett soothe his fears with the sort of sappy, sentimental Valentine’s Day JT was taught to shun growing up—but secretly always wanted?

When Halloween rolls around, a costumed night out at the local bar might lead to another romantic first. And on Christmas morning, JT awakes to some sweet loving and the most meaningful gift he could ever imagine. The New Year truly brings a new beginning—ushered in by some silly, sparkly, and sexy fun.

One year. Four important holidays. Two men who have worked hard for the love and trust they share and the bright future that’s finally within their grasp.

Then one morning he discovers a baby on his doorstep.

Well, Hoss does what any reasonable man would do – he calls his momma and his buddy, Sheriff Pooter, and they head to the clinic to see if Doc knows of any suddenly not-so-pregnant girls.

In the meantime, Hoss and his best friend, Bradley, have their hands full trying to care for an infant, run a ranch, and deal with the sudden confession that Bradley doesn’t hate Hoss for coming out to him in high school. In fact, Bradley’s been trying to catch Hoss’s attention for damn near a decade.

Reviewer: Prime

Review: For me, BA Tortuga has always been an author I can take or leave. I don’t dislike any of her books, really, but more the writing style sometimes leaves me feeling a bit nonplussed. But still I keep on going back because the type of stories Tortuga writes are what I like. I know, I’m a person of many contradictions and whatnot.

Now see, here’s a funny thing. I read and reviewed this book and gave it a 3.5/5… then I forgot about my opinion and listened to the audio and rated it a 5/5. For some reason I just loved listening to the audio, whereas I merely enjoyed reading the book. No idea why, but that’s how it goes. I’m fairly sure that a good part of the reason was because of the narration by Dorian Bane – I loved the voice he gave the cowboys and made me feel a new level of emotion which I don’t remember from when I simply read the book myself. The actual idea of the story and the whole “cowboys looking after a baby and finally reveal their feelings for each other” plot device – absolutely perfect. I also loved the touch of soap opera type of drama introduced when it comes to said baby’s paternity.

The story is about Hoss (ok, as it had done when I read the book, the nick name Hoss seriously rubbed me the wrong way again) and his best friend since childhood, Bradley. They are both cowboys and have been secretly in love with each other years. One day, Hoss finds a baby randomly left on his door step and through some convoluted reasoning, he ends up looking after the baby girl with the help of his friend. The story works in two parts, 1) Hoss and Bradley getting together, where one is out and the other is in the closet still, and, 2) looking after the baby and the mystery of where she came from.

There was a twist at the end that came from nowhere, it’s a bit unbelievable, so people that like things to be more relatable may need to enter with an open mind. Seriously, when I say this is something you would see on Days of Our Lives /Neighbours/Coronation Street, believe it.
