Blurb:  Modern day fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One: he’s a guy. Two: he’s Sleeping Beauty, the most useless princess in existence. Throw in his true love, Corentin Devereaux, a huntsman descended from child-eating witches, and Taylor’s younger brother, Atticus—this generation’s Snow White—who tried to kill him. That didn’t go so hot.

For two years, Taylor and Corentin live their Happily Ever After. But Corentin is cursed to lose his memory every seven days, including his life with Taylor—a painful reminder that he can’t provide for the man he loves. Taylor insists Corentin has the strength to succeed, and when Taylor discovers a way to break the curse, he is more than willing to pay the cost.

When an enchanted blizzard devastates Corentin’s hometown of New Orleans, Taylor is convinced Atticus is to blame and grows desperate to find him amid the Big Easy turned frozen wasteland. Corentin believes Taylor is chasing a ghost while he chases the ghosts of his own past. Old tensions scratch open scars, leaving both to wonder if they have each other’s best interests at heart. The clock is ticking until Corentin loses his memory and the rabbit hole goes so deep they may never come out.

Review: This is the first book in this series but I would say you could read it separately. Now to be truthful I really did not really care for this book. It gives you a new level on the old fairy tales you grew up on. However the story itself was well written with quite a bit of detail, which is not saying the pace was right on. It seemed to go in all directions and I lost interest in the story before the second chapter.

Now this should have been a reason not to grab the book, because fairy tells creep me out. I don’t have the same beliefs as many though. So I can see others falling in love with them. It has so many twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat though.

Although I am not sure how to write the review without giving too much away. Taylor is the princess who doesn’t seem to have the curse where as his brother Atticus is pretty much Sleeping Beauty. They need their rescuer but it doesn’t work out the way it should. Nothing ever does. In fact Taylor and Corentin are at each other, but not in a good way, from the start. Then there is Corentin’s curse to get over. Taylor also has to save his brothers ass.

Now even I have to admit that this story was funny as hell. I have never laughed so hard in my life. It even had a lot of action, which did the opposite for me, it made the book dull in that part. I wasn’t too sure what to feel in the end. I was in fact bored quite a bit also. It was a mixture of feelings in the story.

It was a quirky and goofy story that should capture ones attention and be able to keep it. However it didn’t do that for me. It didn’t give me what I wanted from the book.

The book starts out at a pretty good pace then it hits a snag. I am not really sure how to put it, but right when you are getting to the good part, then wham nothing. Not that the story stopped telling but it just went downhill for me. I had wished that my feelings had changed with the story though. It has a great bit of potential though. I would recommend it because as I see it just because it didn’t do it for me, doesn’t mean that another would not love it.

When it’s time for the annual Men of Maine pinup calendar, Harper’s brothers eagerly volunteer him. Harper isn’t thrilled to bare it all to raise money for an elementary school playground—until he meets out-and-proud Los Angeles out-a-statah Sean Blackburn: the highly available first-grade teacher with Hollywood heartthrob looks.

Harper has no desire to ever stand out from the crowd, but Sean persists and earns Harper’s friendship. Through Sean, Harper opens up to new possibilities. Things get steamy, but Harper still protects his heart. Though   the right pressure in the right place might crack even a loner lobsterman out of his shell.

Blurb: A Fairy Tales of the Open Road Novel

Modern-day fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One, he’s a guy. Two, he’s an insomniac Sleeping Beauty. Three, his practically perfect brother, Atticus Hatfield, this generation’s Snow White, has been irrevocably corrupted by the Witchking. The Library, a clandestine organization, seeks to write “The End” on Atticus, and Taylor is given the impossible task when his own parents endorse his brother’s demise. With his true love, the huntsman Corentin Devereaux, at his side, they once again set out to find Atticus, but Atticus won’t go down without a fight.

The quest ends how it began. But instead of the quirky, corkscrewing Americana road trip, Taylor and Corentin must contend with the dangers of the urban jungle. With an unexpected ally at their side, they’re forced to question all they know about the legacy of Snow White.

As the world of the Enchants and the mundane hang in the balance, Taylor knows what he must do: go pick an apple.

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order.

Okay, so we re-join Taylor and Corentin in Lex Chase’s completely off the wall Fairy Tales of the Open Road series (aka Screw-up Princess and Skillful Huntsman), now you can’t just pick this story up and join the series (because it would be a serious mind fuck) you have to read this series from the beginning to even have a clue what was going on and to understand what’s happening.

Being honest I’m completely flummoxed on how to write this review, because everything that’s happening in this book is the result of what happened in the previous books… *shakes head* bloody Atticus. Okay I’ll give it my best shot!

After Atticus steals The Book from the Library Taylor and Corentin are given the task of finding a certain object that will finally bring an end to Atticus’ reign of terror, but they have to work with Idi the Witchking (who is Atticus’ true love) and then the journey of ‘OMG what the hell is going on’ begins. Hmmm yeah Lex Chase takes us on yet another journey with Taylor and Corentin that is just too crazy for words.

So loads of ‘huh’ moments, quite a few ‘what the hell’ moments and several ‘bloody Atticus has lost his freaking mind’ moments. This is an amazing story that has so many things going on/ overlapping that you can just keep the thread of the story while personally wishing you could get your hands on Atticus and shove the ‘certain object’ down his throat yourself.

There’s plenty of danger, lots of more danger and some more danger to boot, there some shocking betrayals, a couple of Wandering Path journeys, seeking help from a troll, facing The Emeraldine Beast, and the final showdown. There are twists and turns, ducking and diving, hunting and hiding and just… hell I told you it would be hard to describe.

This is a fantastic story that is brilliantly written and will take you on a journey that is just brilliant, it might make you wish that you’d never begun the journey but you’ll enjoy being dragged every step of the way. Lex Chase has written a trilogy that has ended in an explosive ending and it’s not till the last couple of pages that you find out if true love actually won out!

I recommend this to those who love urban fantasy, who adore journeys into the unknown, who love characters that you adore and those you hate/sympathise with, who love well-crafted stories, and just maybe a true loves ending.

Review: Chris and Dash had been engaged to be married, but Dash had let Chris down way to many times. It seems Dash had chosen his life to be different than Chris. So when his mother told him to take a cruise to relax, he was quite surprised to find out that his cabin steward was his ex. Then to top it off they ended up on a deserted island, things are about to come to a head.

Now this had great potential, but it just seemed to not end right for me. I did have fun reading it though and the humor was appreciated.

However, I do wish that it had been a bit longer with more detail in the ending.

Review: I have read a few books by this author and I have got to say that this one is way darker. The title was what caught my attention, but I really should have taken a second look at the blurb. This story was a bit hard to read for me. Not only hard but a bit complicated in some spots.

Humans, vampires, shifters and other beings used to live among each other at one time. This is actually a different type of earth, a different or alternate universe type of story. As with our world, wars start and they turn on each other. That doesn’t seem to change much. Now they hide from each other.

Sevon was orphaned when he was a small child. Dominic tortured Sevon and made him believe everything he said. Which for a small child would be easy to do. Even throughout this Sevon still wants to help those around him. However it would seem Dominic has more control then we think. For when he sees his best friend, he doesn’t recognize Jack at all.

Jack is a shifter and he plans on saving his friend. The abuse is both destructive and very powerful on a child but as an adult he is almost paralyzed by it. He is a sexy little king who needs help.

I am afraid that most of this is from what I caught and felt then what was probably written. The story was so deep and very complex, which it was hard for me to get into. I am afraid that I had trouble concentrating from the start. I am not one for abuse of any kind, so that made it even worse for me.

While the story itself is very well written and is compelling to some, just wasn’t for me at all.

Blurb: Everyone wishes they were dead when wandering the purgatory of a home furnishings store, but these guys actually are.

Benji Goss is the quintessential good guy. When his boyfriend dumps him and moves out, Benji obligingly keeps the cat—even though he’s allergic—because his ex’s new place doesn’t accept pets. He’s always joked the cat would be the death of him, but not in a way he expects when a feline mishap crushes him under a DEL TORO bookcase.

Snarky loner Patrick Bryant is in such a rut he barely remembers the life he used to lead. The last thing he recalls is being decapitated by a DEL TORO bookcase in a freak accident. As a spiritual CASA resident, he haunts the aisles of affordable Italian furniture, assisting fellow spirits in moving on to their final destinations.

When Benji appears in the CASA café, Patrick considers the naïve spirit just the man to cure his boredom. Benji’s relentless optimism chips away at Patrick’s sarcasm, making him question if there’s something beyond what he can see.

But the heart is like CASA furniture—there’s always some assembly required.

Review: I was not sure what I was expecting when I read this story but I can honestly say that this was not it. I have not read many books by these authors so I wasn’t really sure if it would be one that I would like. However it was the title that caught me, I was thinking humor and laughing my ass off. Then I read the blurb and I was fascinated by the thought of death, being stuck in some shopping store and what would happen next.

Benji had believed his boyfriend when they had gotten the apartment, that it was love. However when Charles left him, he left his stupid old cat that he was allergic to. Now I have to admit that it took me reading it twice to find out that he had died because of the cat. Then he ends up is Casa trying to figure out how he ended up there.

Which for Patrick he had been at Casa for quite some time. He was afraid of going on and finding out the next step. He was an ass pretty much, and when Benji showed up he figured he would help him. His intent was to not tell Benji anything and it leads the two into strange directions.

I have to honestly say that even though the story was well written, with a pretty good plot and story line that this was the wackiest story I have ever read.

It definitely had the humor to it but the fact that the guys were dead really doesn’t do anything for me. I would have rather read about them meeting in another life and being together, this story was a bit depressing. However it was a funny story that definitely kept my attention through it all.

I had fun with it and would definitely recommend it.

But before life gets awkward, duty calls.

Booted-off female contestants of the romantic reality show Single and Super are being found in comas, and Checkmate needs to get to the bottom of it. As part of Rook’s plan, he cleans up his bad boy image and goes undercover as a bachelor looking for love among twenty-five frenzied women. Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Hogarth and Rook are super-duo Checkmate who are still determined to get into the Power Alliance, even with the pathetic excuses the Alliance keeps coming up with to ignore them. When Hogarth inadvertently blurts out a marriage proposal, Garth begins to realize that Rook might not be in the same place but he can’t dwell on his disappointment and insecurities because duty calls. Female contestants of Single and Super, a romantic reality show for those with superpowers, are being found in deliriously happy comas and Checkmate need to get to the bottom of it. Rook goes undercover as the bachelor looking for love and Hogarth sneaks onset as a cameraman, with emotion running high between them they discover the well-laid trap they have walked into, and one of them will have to suffer a broken heart if they ever want to see reality again.

This is a great adventure in the Checkmate series where battle commences and Rook and Hogarth’s relationship is tested. We start off this adventure several months after the end of Pawn Takes Rook and rejoin Hogarth and Rook as they battle crime. Hogarth hasn’t changed, he is still the ever hopeful insecure man and Rook is still the strong snarly type, their relationship is still going strong although Rook is still cagey with his feelings and Hogarth is still full on with his emotions. Their new investigation into nefarious deeds takes them to the set of a reality TV show and it will test Hogarth’s nerves to see women throwing themselves at Rook, but when he discovers the truth of the show, he has to make hard choices.

I thought this story was brilliant, both Hogarth’s and Rook’s reactions are brilliant all the way through. Hogarth is so funny with his descriptions and retelling of events and he is just sooo angsty at times it is wonderful. Rook is very stoic. Nothing really gets any reaction out of him, but boy does Hogarth drive him to the edge. The storyline is really good with Hogarth and Rook having to take on an alternative reality, beating the bad guy and rescue all the victims but it comes at a high price. Hogarth is really put through the emotional mill as he tries to puzzle his relationship with Rook out; even his blissed out moments are tinged with angst because trying to figure out how Rook really feels will take an impossible superpower.

I recommend this to those who love strange superheroes, difficult choices, angsty moments, communication problems between lovers, spectacular rescues, some hot moments and a great ending.

Review: Hogarth (Garth or Ho depending on who says it) is attacked and being beaten when he is rescued by Rook, a superhero who has been kicked out of the Power Alliance for failing to save a civilian, when Garth discovers this, he swears that he will help Rook get his license back and hopefully be admitted himself to the Alliance. Trying to ignore his attraction to Rook, Garth sets out with Rook on missions to rescue innocent citizens, but he gets more than he bargained for when he crosses paths with his ex-lover Captain Chivalry (Darren). Rook knows more about Garth than he should and admitting the truth to Garth opens more questions than it answers.

Superheroes ahoy! This is a cute story that delves into our comic book geek side and draws out our inner sidekick, as we join Garth and Rook at the beginning of their adventure. Garth has wanted desperately to join the Power Alliance as a Kitbasher (technopath) but after two attempts is still hoping, getting the opportunity to help Rook redeem himself, he grabs it with two hands and soon discovers that being a superhero is harder than it seems. Rook discovers something surprising about Garth and eventually tells him the truth. But, before they can delve into it further, Garth’s life is put at risk when a desperate man falls to the way of evil.

I found this story to be fun and amusing, but filled with the wonders of superpowers, danger and secrets being revealed. Garth and Rook make a strange couple who swing between infatuation and annoyance, they have great banter between them and make a great superpower couple, although they do have a few cross words *cringe*. Garth’s ex, Chivalry is a character that is great… watch out for him as he hides firmly in the closet and gives us an excellent twist to the story. This is a wonderful light-hearted story with a way of making the characters come to life so that you can fully appreciate Chivalry’s s-curl and sparkly teeth, Garth’s imaginative techno powers and Rook’s life giving power.

I have to recommend this to those who adore comic book superheroes, superpowers, a secret hidden, a brilliant twist, hot sex, danger, a cool rescue and a great ending.
