Review: Actor Adrien Fury is in a slump after his last two pictures were less than stellar. It doesn’t help his mood or attitude that he is secretly pining over his agent, Harrison, who continues to avoid Adrien’s attempts at flirting. Then there is the issue of an over-zealous fan (aka Stalker!) that has been sending some disturbing letters to Adrien.

A night out changes course when Adrien finally says how he feels, out-loud, and is pleasantly surprised when he learns Harrison feels the same way. Their new relationship status enrages Adrien’s stalker, whose rage reaches a whole new level.

Infamous is a new series from ARe (All Romance E-books) that promises to be quite intriguing. Star Power is short, sexy, steamy and unsettling. I think my favorite aspect to this story was Adrien’s inner monologue throughout. He is a famous actor, but is still uncertain of himself. He’s been pining over Harrison for years, but never said anything out of fear, thinking Harrison would leave him alone if he knew the truth.

All the while, Harrison has been feeling much the same, wanting more from Adrien, but afraid what would happen if he and Adrien did get together and Adrien couldn’t handle certain aspects of his life.

My only teensy issue, there were a couple times in the story it felt rushed, I would have liked just a little more details in those areas of the storyline. But overall I really enjoyed the book and devoured it quickly. It’s definitely fast paced and emotional, but the danger and the budding relationship between Harrison and Adrien gave the story an intense edge.

Don’t let the light BDSM nudge scare you off this read, it’s really just a window dressing to the story and it’s conveyed well from both characters.

Grab yourself a drink and a light snack and curl up with Star Power, trust me, you’ll have a wonderful evening!

Review: Evan Cleary has worked hard to start his own business as an event planner, scrimping and saving to build the business from the ground up. Now he fears it will take two jilted grooms about five minutes to tear it down. Evan thinks fast and with the assistance of one groom’s grumpy brother and check writing momma, Evan pulls off a fantastic Christmas party in place of the wedding and impresses everyone in the room.

Including Mr. Grumpy.

Richard Patterson labels Evan as flamboyant and femme from the start and puts a lid on his attraction to the cute Wedding Planner. Alcohol, atmosphere and an adorably frustrated Evan causes Richard to re-think that decision. The two share a heated kiss, but then Richard opens his big, fat mouth which riles Evan’s fur.

Thankfully, Richard is a pretty smart guy. he makes Evan an offer that is hard to refuse. One night, no strings, just sex.
Short and sexy… this was just a fast, funny read. The chemistry between Evan and Richard wasn’t evident at first. it took a few pages to get a feel for them overall. I thought Richards’s aversion to flamboyant, femme men then falling hard for one was a nice twist.

Evan aggravated me toward the end though, the way he tried to blow Richard off, I didn’t think it fit in the story the way it had been written up to that point.

Overall, this was a good read and I’d recommend it to anyone that likes fast reads with some substance and an electric connection between the two leads.

Review: Some secrets should stay buried…

Imagine if you will, having a few drinks then accompanying the gorgeous guy at the bar back up to his room for some mind-blowing sex. Then waking up in a park, in the arms of an Angel statue, buck ass naked with no memory of how you got there. That is just a bad day all around. It gets better though, when said gorgeous guy goes missing.

Zach Taylor is at the top of his game at his firm. He’s young, successful and single, has the world at his fingertips. That lovely evening I just mentioned leaves him frazzled and fraying, trying to remember. Things go from bad to worse when questioning eyes fall on him. And then an old lady with a box and a couple of tears sends Zach down a spiraling staircase toward a past he has only briefly remembered in his dreams.

Nate Shaw is big, brooding, sexy and oh so charming. His blue eyes and blinding white teeth go from menacing to sexy too quickly for my liking, but it definitely got Zach’s attention. Hold up in a basement, waiting out a snow storm, the two keep warm the old-fashioned way. Shared body heat. The thing is, Nate either has the best or the worst timing imaginable. He blows into Zach’s life right when everything is falling apart.

Wow. This book kind of blew my mind. I opened it with the intention to read a chapter or two between loads of laundry and, two hours later I read ‘The End’ and my mind is still spinning.

Knight just took me on a journey through the twisted mind of a mad man, and the uncertain mind of another that thinks he’s going mad. I figured a couple of things out early on, I wouldn’t say predictable, I’m just an avid crime story watcher so the clues were screaming at me. That being said, I have to wonder if Knight didn’t leave those clues on purpose, bread crumbs if you will, to take my attention off the truth.

This was a murder mystery full of twists and turns. Right about the time you think you have it all figured out, you really don’t. So well written that even at the very end, two pages left to go, there was another twist that had me holding my breath. Be warned, there is some darkness in this story, murder, madness, mayhem and pure evil. Knight’s imagination is both fantastic, and terrifying.

So if you are looking for a book that you can sink your teeth into, a book that will hold your attention from start to finish, a story so engrossing you can’t look away as you read through your fingers… well then, this book will certainly do.

Review: Colt has been on his own since he was sixteen when his already abusive father tossed him out on the lawn, literally, when he came out. Three years of making bad, but necessary, choices and Colt is finally in a good place. He’s in college, has a room in the dorms, life is actually pretty good. Then a night at a local club ends disastrously.

Waking up in the ER with no memory of how you got there, not to mention the hot guy you were watching is sitting next to your hospital bed, are things Colt should definitely be concerned about.

Chris is just a few years older than Colt, has a similar darkness in his past with his father and is also working his way through college to be a Paramedic. He notices Colt the moment he walks into the club, his clothing, his shy demeanor, everything about Colt says he should not be in the club. The two exchange a few looks and shy smiles across the club, thankfully, so when Colt gets into a little trouble, Chris is there to ensure he is okay.

The first story in a new series that has potential. Chris and Colt are smitten with each other from that first glance, that first shy, awkward smile. They have a lot more in common than either of them even realize until closer to the end of the book. There were a few things in the story that didn’t mesh, couple times the change from one thing to the next felt choppy.

But, overall, I really liked this book. I’m intrigued thoroughly… I want to know why the nurse in the ER called Colt by name, before she was told his name. I want to know what’s going to happen with Colt and his estranged mother. And I especially must know where the next book will take Colt and Chris.

There is definite chemistry that must be explored, and though the potential for a relationship seems rushed, it will make more sense when their pasts are fully revealed. Tortured souls tend to gravitate to each other, and I’m hoping they can help each other heal.

If you are looking for a new author or series with great potential,  a solid storyline and pretty well-developed characters, give this one a go.

Review: I’ve wanted this story for a while now, being a fan of the series and having read every book, I see Rich in the background and have eagerly waited for his time to come. Rich may be young, but he has a good head on his shoulders. He volunteers constantly at the shelter, takes classes at the local college and works full-time at the Lucky Cup Coffee Shop.

His schedule doesn’t leave much time for dating but when he does, one disastrous date after another leads Rich to consider swearing off men for a while. That is until the hot guy that Rich can’t help but notice almost daily at the Coffee Shop finally asks him out.

Diego loves his job as part of the Search and Rescue unit for LVMPD being the outdoors type of guy. He even spends his off time hiking and climbing, mostly because he doesn’t have a man in his life. Diego has a sour taste in his mouth as well from past relationships, but there is something about the beautiful blonde at the Coffee Shop that has not only caught Diego’s eyes, he makes Diego want so much more than a one night stand.

These two definitely move fast, but it’s the attention to details that made their instant connection okay with me. Diego goes out of his way to woo Rich. Compliments, dates, conversation, and oh boy can the man kiss! Rich can’t breathe, much less think, when Diego lays his lips on him. I think what I enjoyed most about the relationship between these two was their conversations.

Diego especially always paid attention to everything Rich said, which was new to Rich and took some getting used to, but the way they were able to confide in each other from the start, to be a shoulder for each other when they had a bad day. This happened to them both in the story. I just loved that the relationship wasn’t all about sex. That being said, the sex was fantastic! Passionate, playful, tender and rough. When these two went at it I had to wipe the steam off my kindle.

Fast paced and completely engaging with a little bit of suspense for good measure. If you are a fan of the series, Knight’s work, men in uniforms, or just a hopeless romantic… you’ll love this book too.

Review: Jason Stern’s life went from comfortable and full to complicated and barren with just two words… I’m gay. His loving and devoted family cut him off with one wave of his father’s hand.

Determined to finish college but now homeless, Jason continues classes and checks in at a local shelter. Thankfully, a friend from college sees Jason in line at the shelter and takes him to dinner, then offers him a room at his place. From then on Jason has a new family, they may not be blood, but they accept Jason as he is and don’t condemn him for being who he is.

A few years later Jason is now running the shelter that is a safe haven for LGBT youth. Life is pretty grand, if Jason weren’t extremely attracted to the newest volunteer, Quinn Fitzpatrick… a priest in training that is on a hiatus while he figures out if the clergy is the life he wants to lead.

Quinn Fitzpatrick has always struggled with his attraction to the same-sex. His religious upbringing coupled with his mother’s disdain for that type of lifestyle have caused Quinn to try to be something, someone who he is not.

On a hiatus from his training, Quinn is finding it harder and harder to lie to himself about who he is. His attraction to Jason doesn’t help matters any. Jason is an amazing guy though, as much as he wants something more with Quinn, he keeps those thoughts and feelings close to the heart and does his best to just be Quinn’s friend. This time it’s not two little words that change Jason’s life, its one little thing… a kiss.

It took me a few chapters to get into this story as the first three books were about a different couple. I assumed book 4 would continue their story. But once I got to know Jason I was very interested in where his story would go.

I also spent about half the book holding my breath, waiting for the bottom to fall out. I must say, I’m happy that I kept reading with both those struggles because this was such a great story, quite possibly better than the original trilogy.

I loved Jason! His character, his personality, his inner monologue as he navigated his constantly changing relationship with Quinn. The fear of losing Quinn and then having to accept that he just might. It was heartbreaking.

And if you think you’ll dislike Quinn because of all that, you won’t. Quinn’s struggle with his sexuality and what is expected of him is very real, very well written and will cause you to be torn as well. As a reader I was so drawn into both characters reality and torn on how I wanted the story to go.

Slow to start but so well written, the situations had reality and depth and the characters were well-developed and flawed, which made them that much more real for me.

It’s an emotional, smexy, intriguing story, and I highly recommend the read. If you haven’t read the first 3 books you can still read this one, it is a stand-alone story in itself.

Review: Detective Kurt O’Donnell is having a very bad week. First rainbowawards_hon_mention3he and his partner are blown up on their way to a scene, then Kurt wakes up in the hospital with the details of the event blurring in his mind. Out of the hospital and trying to heal both mentally and physically, Kurt attends his former partner’s funeral only to find out that after 3 years working side by side almost daily, putting his life in the hands of his partner, he didn’t know the man at all.

Davy spent 10 years under the thumb of a controlling lover. He wasn’t abusive per say, but he kept Davy hidden away all but ashamed to admit his sexuality, going as far as to urge Davy to cut all his friends out of his life. Still, Davy loved the man and mourns the loss when he is killed on the job. What’s odd and unnerving is when his dead lover’s partner on the force starts showing up unannounced with groceries, dinner and movies.

The two grow closer and more comfortable with each other with each passing day, both of them almost ashamed that they actually look forward to spending time together watching hockey games, eating dinner and drinking a few beers. When Kurt starts to explore the idea that his arrow may not be so straight, Davy pulls away and cuts off all contact. That is until Kurt is hurt during a drug bust and Davy rushes to his side, but is it too little too late?

This story was so engrossing that I didn’t even mind the angst. You really get to see Kurt and Davy meet, become friends, grow closer and slowly, excruciatingly almost, fall for each other. The elephant in the room, Kurt’s dead partner, Davy’s dead lover, threatens to suffocate the slow burning flame growing between them though.

I really felt like I was there, riding shotgun with these two, the depth of storytelling and engaging the reader with the plot and twists was that good. Tristan James narration only added to the appeal of the story. He is multi-vocal and holds an army of tones and accents in his arsenal. My favorite from him is always the Irish accent, it’s so perfect and he also has the ability to change each character, even if only a fraction, so you always know whose head you are in at the time.

If you like stories with action, suspense, intrigue and slow building love, then this is a must listen!

Review: What would you do if you knew your time here was about to expire? Jessie knows he won’t beat the cancer, so with his son Mike’s help.

He sets out to make sure the things he cares about most will be taken care of once he’s gone. He wants to make sure the diner is taken care of so he leaves it to Tanner, Mike’s best friend, and somewhat of an adopted son to Jessie. Making sure that his husband Steve doesn’t fade away to depression once he’s gone, well Tanner is key to that as well.

This is a super short story so the review will be as well. Let me just say if the fact that Cardeno C penned the story isn’t enough to make this one an auto buy, then the fact that Paul Morey narrates should make it a no brainer. Need more convincing?

Okay then. The story almost seems like insta-love in the beginning, but as the story unfolds you learn it is anything but. The feelings are mutual and a long time coming. Morey really translates each character from paper to audio well, I especially like the way he totally immerses himself into not just conveying the characters, but conveying the emotions.

Definitely a must listen, as I said it’s super short, super sexy and well worth the couple of hours to give it a listen.

Cross to Bare

(Men of London 05)
by

Susan Mac Nicol

Tough in business but romantic at heart, fashion designer Lenny James isn’t hiding his masculinity behind his super successful female alter ego, but a vulnerability that only handsome financier Brook Hunter will be man enough to reveal…and worship.

TWO OF A KIND

It’s amazing what a little mascara and lipstick, a blonde wig, false boobs, and top-notch female fashion can hide. Not that Lenny James is hiding his masculinity. He uses his normal voice when he’s Laverne, and he’s not particularly camp as a man. His reasons for creating his alter ego are locked deep in his past. He is who he is: tough in business, and a romantic at heart. What he’s hiding is vulnerability. He wants a man to accept both sides of him.

Gorgeous, commanding, and dark as sin, Brook Hunter meets Lenny and knows nothing about Laverne until fate pushes her into his path. Cross-dressing is as far from Brook’s reality as fashion is from his world of diplomacy and high finance. Understanding and truth take time, and trust doesn’t come easy. But Brook is about to show Lenny that there are no sides to true love, just the place where they meet in the middle.

Review: Rory and Ben have been friends ever since the day Rory moved in next door to Ben when they were still kids. Over the years they grew up together and something more than the simple bond of friendship developed between them.

Just before their senior year, both young men came clean about their mutual feelings and swore they would love each other forever. But high school, peer pressure and the need to fit in got in the way. A decade later and Rory winds up in Ben’s path again, just like before, but he wants nothing to do with giving Ben a second chance.

I was drawn into the story from the start when a very young Ben got jealous and kicked Rory in the shins. When forced to apologize it was the first of many times Ben would be mesmerized by Rory’s smile.

Then the story jumps to present day and, I was a little confused at first, but the time jump quickly clears itself up and Ben explains to his now best friend exactly what a tool he was in high school. Ben feels like he is being given a second chance at that first love, the one that got away, and the one no one has ever been able to compete with. But Rory is stand-offish and resistant from the start.

As the story progresses, the friendship slowly slides back into something similar to the past and the two men become inseparable again. Ben goes into the situation realizing it’s just a friend’s with benefits type of situation, but is no less heartbroken when that nail is forcibly hammered home.

There was a lot of angst, but both men are still in their late twenties, so it is to be expected. What I enjoyed the most about this audio was getting to watch Ben and Rory navigate through all that pain, anger and hurt and try to find their way back to each other. Neither having been whole since they have been apart. But Rory doesn’t make it easy, and why should he? Ben broke his heart.

Narrated by George Somerset, my first party with him, but I’d be willing to accept another invitation. I loved the voices he gave the characters and I could literally feel Ben’s pain there toward the end of the story. This was a fast, emotional, slightly angsty read and overall, I really enjoyed it.

possibilities_exlarge_PNG-180x288‘Possibilities’ by T.A. Chase

When Dixon and Carson meet during a hurricane, neither imagined that moment would be the beginning of a new relationship.

Dixon White owns Billy’s Diner in Brevard County, Florida—right down the road from Patrick Air Force Base. He serves a lot of the servicemen and their families who live and work on the base and does it in honor of his brother who served as a SEAL until a motorcycle accident ended his life. When Dixon finds himself stuck in a broken down car just as a hurricane hits the area, he’s not sure how’s he going to get home.

Master Chief Sergeant Carson LaSalle is headed to the base when he drives by Billy’s Diner. He sees Dixon’s car there and stops, checking to see if everything is okay. He takes Dixon home, but can’t stop thinking about him.

After the hurricane blows through, both men meet again and the sparks fly. Possibilities open up for them to have a chance at finding love. They just have to be willing to try.

Tams ♥♥♥♥4 Heart review:
Carson LaSalle has had his eye on Dixon White since the day he got stationed at Patrick Air Force Base. When a storm hits and Dixon’s car breaks down, Carson finally has a reason to not only spend some time with Dixon, but to finally ask him out on a date. The two hit it off and soon sparks fly.

There was a lot of meat to this short story. Chase gives the reader a brief glimpse into Dixon’s life, his past, and why he owns the diner and makes it his mission to take care of others. Carson was just the perfect addition for him, a man who would be proud to stand by his side.

I would read a full length story for these two, would be nice to get a glimpse into Carson’s background.

lonelyheartsandyellowribbons_exlarge_PNG-180x288‘Lonely Hearts and Yellow Ribbons’ by Stephani Hecht

Being apart from the one you love is the hardest thing to do, until you get them back to find they’ve changed…

PJ Ross Ervin is part of an elite force of rescue men from the Air Force. Only the best of the best make it through the program and get to wear the maroon beret. As such, he is proud of what he does and is happy to serve his country. The one drawback is that it takes him away from his long-time lover, Aden. Thankfully Ross’ deployment is over and he’s coming home.

Aden is excited to see Ross. But he can’t help but notice that his partner is having trouble adjusting back into the civilian world. Plus, there is the looming danger that Ross could be deployed again at any time. Will Ross have to leave to serve his county once more? And if so, can the pair survive the separation yet again?

Tams ♥♥♥3 Heart review:
Ross and Aden have been together long enough that Aden knows what to expect from Ross’s career as a military man. When Ross comes home on leave, they use their time wisely to get reacquainted with one another. But this time Aden notices that Ross is having trouble leaving the job at the door. With another deployment looming, Aden worries for Ross more than ever, but supports his man regardless.

My favorite things about this short story were the yellow ribbons first off. As a former military wife and a military brat, I can appreciate that little addition. When Ross opened the cabinet and found the spools of ribbon, I smiled, that was perfect. And then Aden finally being accepted to the Wives group, which needs a new name by the way with the influx of same-sex military couplings.

Cute story though.

venetianskies_exlarge_PNG-180x288‘Venetian Skies’ by Morticia Knight

No one wants to lose a love that’s meant to be. Air Force test pilot, Chris Pierce, returns to Italy to discover that second chances are the sweetest.

They had a love that was the real thing, but Chris, an Air Force test pilot, returns to Aviano Air Base in Italy to discover that the only man he’s ever loved is still there. Yet wasn’t that why artist Brandon had dumped him? Because he didn’t want to be tied down to one place or one person?

Brandon made a huge mistake. It wasn’t until Chris transferred out of the local military base that he realizes what they had together was the real thing. Even though he’s never settled in one place for very long, he couldn’t bear to leave the town of Aviano where he and Chris were so happy together.

Chris unexpectedly returns and Brandon is devastated when Chris rejects him out of anger. Can’t Chris see how much Brandon has changed in the two years they’ve been apart?

Second chances are the sweetest and love that’s meant to be doesn’t die. But when a MiG fighter jet gone rogue shoots Chris down, will their second chance be taken away forever?

Tams ♥♥♥♥♥5 Heart review:
Chris is an Air Force pilot returning to the base he left when his former lover broke his heart. Since Brandon was such a free spirit that refused to be tied down, Chris is certain his ex is long gone from Aviano. His first night out at their old favorite haunt, Chris runs into Brandon. Well, more like Brandon is searching for Chris. With the pain of the past still fresh in Chris’s heart, can Brandon convince him he was wrong, to give them another shot at happiness?

Okay, I need a full novel for this one. I would love to see where Chris and Brandon started, where everything went wrong and then beyond this short story to the chaotic future I’m certain they have. What Knight delivered with Venetian Skies was a synopsis of a story that only made me thirsty for more.

Short, Sexy and Steamy!

searchandrescue_exlarge_PNG-180x288‘Search and Rescue’ by Jenna Byrnes

Two parajumpers freefall into a stealthy relationship before considering how quickly it might come crashing to an end.

Airman First Class Matthew Billings has almost completed a grueling two-year training program on his way to becoming a Pararescueman in the Air Force Special Operations Unit. On a mission to rescue a child lost in the Pecos Wilderness of New Mexico, he meets Master Sergeant Drake Bogart, a man who is as infuriating as he is handsome.

When Matt spots the child and Drake gets the credit, sparks fly, in more ways than one. But with graduation just a few days away, is their fledgling relationship over before it even gets started?

Tams ♥♥♥3 Heart review:
This short story has potential to be an enemies to lovers type of story. Matthew Billings is climbing the ranks as a Pararescueman and holding his own, to spite Drake Bogart taking all the credit.

When Drake goes against Matthew’s preconceived notions and not only admits his attraction to the Matthew, he takes him home and seduces him, it looks like the perfect friends with benefits relationship might be forming. Until Drake says something stupid again.

This story had potential, but I had trouble liking Drake. He came across as cocky and arrogant and even when he apologized, I just never warmed to the character. There were some sexy times and I liked that Matthew stood his ground with the more dominant Sergeant.

I think this one definitely needs to be a full story so things can be elaborated and expanded on.

livefortheday_exlarge_PNG-180x288‘Live for the Day’ by Sarah Masters

Loving your best friend is easy. Telling him you do…well, that’s the hard part.

Michael and Steven grew up together—just them, no girls allowed. They’d always planned to join the military, but when it came time to sign up, Michael couldn’t do it. For years, Michael has worried every time Steven is out in the desert, risking his life to serve and protect. He dreads the day Steven won’t come home.

Steven has been through a dreadful ordeal on duty, and while in the hospital, he’s had time to think about what’s important in life. He misses Michael—needs to get back home to be with him—and he has something he wishes to say, something he’s held inside as far back as he can remember…

When the two men reunite, revelations are the name of the game. There is no question they’ve always loved each other, but now that they have the chance to express that love, will they?

Tams ♥♥♥♥♥5 Heart review:
The way this particular story started reminded me of old Hollywood love stories. Seemingly unrequited love. Seeing your love coming toward you, certain it’s a dream or a mirage, and yet, he is real.

Michael is sitting in his favorite café missing his best friend Steven something fierce, wishing he were there so Michael could finally be honest with him about how he feels when suddenly, and Steven is there. Between the long absences that are driving Michael insane with worry, and Steven being hurt during his last deployment, both men are done dancing around the truth.

Oh but I love this story the best of them all. I could see Michael sitting in the café, staring out the window, longing for Steven to ride in on a white horse, and then they could ride off into the sunset together. Though it was far removed from that that was the feel of the story. Once these two were finally honest about their feelings, things got a little steamy.

This is another one I’d love to read going back and giving more details of their friendship and the years of them growing closer even if they were apart, then go forward and show their happy life together.

Le Sigh.

lifetimehitch_exlarge_PNG-180x288‘Lifetime Hitch’ by Megan Slayer

Sometimes the best laid plans are meant to be thrown way off course.

Hunter planned his life very well. He’s got his position in the Air National Guard, the family he’s always wanted and a life most people would love to have. Except he’s not happy. His friends all know his truths, but them knowing about his sexuality and him admitting it are two different things. Thankfully Ryder—his best friend—has always got his back.

Ryder has loved Hunter since they were in school. He wants to have more than Hunter’s back—he wants everything. Forcing his Guardsman to come out as a gay man wasn’t on his agenda, but Ryder isn’t above a bit of gentle nudging.

Will the things Hunter can’t control be his undoing, or will he accept who he is as well as the love he’s craved all of his life?

Tams ♥♥♥3 Hearts review:
This one was a little odd for me. Ryder and Hunter have been best friends forever, and that is about how long Ryder has been in love with Hunter. He is respectful and keeps his distance, hiding his true feelings while Hunter tries to convince everyone, including himself, that he is straight. When they finally face their feelings, it seems like a HEA is in the works. Not so fast… both men teeter back and forth to the extent that I almost got whiplash.

I liked that Hunter was adamant that he remain true to the commitment he made to those two little girls, but the I love you too, wait… I have to take care of the girls. I want you too… wait, I can’t come out. Ryder understands and doesn’t push. Then when Hunter changes his mind and wants to come out and be true, Ryder starts pushing Hunter away.

There was potential here, and a little bit of angst would have been fine, just too angsty for my taste.

Review: Pura Vida has a simple English translation but a far more profound meaning to the people of Costa Rica and anyone spending any amount of time in this majestic country. Pura Vida. Pronounced POO-rah VEE-dah, in English means, “Pure Life”.

Vacation is supposed to be a happy, relaxed time where you can forget your troubles and just enjoy the peace. But for Simon this vacation is racked with stress, worry and a nosey sister. He and his long-term boyfriend are taking a “break” for summer break.

Translation: boyfriend wants to be able to screw anything in a pair of pants and not feel guilty about it. Simon sits on the beach soaking up the sun and drinking margaritas while mentally lining up all the possibilities that surround him. The one that catches his attention turns out to be a local with a lot of character.

Juan sells bags, sunglasses and hats around town and down the beach by day. But at night he camps out at a local reserve for turtles. He watches the sea turtles; helps protect them and their eggs from poachers and find their way back to the sea. Simon is intrigued with what it is Juan does with the turtles, even more intrigued with Juan.

The two decide to “pass the time” together, both fully aware it is nothing more than that, until feelings grow and hearts get involved.
I really loved the message behind this story, Pura Vida. And I enjoyed the way the romance wove its way around the scenery of Costa Rica, helping to shape and mold both young men, especially Simon.

The sea turtles were an odd secondary character, but it worked so well in the storyline. Those turtles are what brought these two unlikely lovers together. There was a little bit of danger added to the mix, giving the story just a little bit of suspense. But overall it is a story about figuring out who you are and who you want to be, then making it happen.

Narrated by Joseph Northton who really brought Simon and Juan to life. Simon was sort of wistful and unsure and that really conveyed will the way he was voiced. Northton did a great job of bringing Juan to life with an authentic accent, especially the way he pronounced Simon’s name.

It was a fast, fun read that kept me entertained and engaged from start to finish. My first from this author and this narrator, but I’ll be looking for more from both.

Payton signs Beckett but can’t trust him—until Payton’s best friend, Val, is attacked. When Beckett is there for him, Payton begins to see another side to his former bully. Review: Payton Gowan is very far removed from the shy, awkward, overweight gay kid that was bullied and picked on in high school. He has a great life, a successful career and lives in the same building with his best friend. And then his childhood tormentor walks into his office looking for representation and throws Payton for a loop.

What Payton wants to do is tell Beckett to piss off and show him the door, but Beckett is very talented and at the end of the day, Payton realizes he needs to do his job and leave the past in the past.

Beckett Huntington doesn’t remember who Payton is at first. Payton has shortened his name to Pay, he’s lost weight and toned his body, gone is the acne, replaced with a very stunning man. Beckett is attracted and intrigued, until Payton reminds him of their shared past.

Once Beckett learns that he was wrong about Payton in high school, he sets out to make Payton his. And while the attraction is mutual, Payton has trouble letting go of the past, even if it is threatening to destroy his future.

Enemies to lover’s stories can be quite good, if conveyed the right way. Grey painted a pretty vivid image of the interaction between these two when they were in high school, and how things could have been perceived the way they were.

A decade later and Beckett has had to learn how to rely on his talent and skill instead of his size and good looks. Pay has worked his way up in a demanding, cut throat business, and still has a shark snipping at his heels. These two can be so much more together, if they can find a way to let go of the past and compromise to build a future.

This story showed Grey’s sexier side of writing. Beckett and Pay share an electric chemistry that jumps off the pages. Beckett is large and domineering, and yet, he is gentle with Pay when he needs to be.

I especially enjoyed that while Pay wasn’t a virgin, he had not had generous lovers… so the relationship with Beckett was different, new and more meaningful for both of them; a very passionate romance.

I have to say though; I sincerely hope that Grey brings the guy with PTSD back. I would love to see what Grey can bring to the table writing a love story for a man who suffers from the inflictions PTSD causes in someone’s life.

While Val was more of a secondary character, Pay’s best friend, I could tell even with the little page time with him that he just wants to be loved, and to love someone. I think they would be perfect together. We shall see!

Definitely a must read, especially if you are a fan of Grey’s work. As I said, the story is passionate and sexy with a bit of suspense and politics to mix things up. You can never go wrong with an Andrew Grey read.

Review: Life is a thread connecting us. One pull and it all unravels.

After being basically abandoned by his mother in his youth, Cole Gannon has always longed for a family. Together with his four roommates, he has finally found the family atmosphere and love he always wanted. Then tragedy strikes and threatens the foundation of Cole’s nuclear family. The one person that wants to be a shoulder for Cole to cry on, to lean on, is the one person Cole has spent the last several months pushing away.

Ian Stark has been enamored with Cole since the first day he saw him at a BBQ his intern Brandon invited him to. Brandon is Cole’s best friend and one of the four roommates. He is also slightly smitten with Ian. It’s this conflict of interest and Cole’s devotion to Brandon that stop him from acting on his mutual attraction to Ian. That is, until Brandon is hurt and the only person Cole can think of to find solace with is Ian.

As Cole and Ian grow closer, Cole’s little family drifts further apart. While Cole has always been the glue holding them all together, Brandon was the roots that kept Cole grounded. Without him, Cole is confused, lost and hurting. Cole is torn between two worlds he wants to merge that refuse to blend.

This was a dark and emotional story. There were a lot of tears and anguish, but there was also love, beauty and hope. The little bit of angst that dotted the story was not only necessary, it was well done. Cole is in pain and confused about the rift growing between him and the three remaining roommates.

How fucked up is it that life hands you the man you have always wanted, wrapped up in a pretty little bow, but demands such a hefty price in return. Ian is steadfast and loyal though, forever patient with Cole and his mood swings and random outbursts. The story was a series of ups and downs and learning that while life is brutal and demanding, there is beauty in hope and love.

Narrated by Paul Morey and I just loved the voice he gave these characters, he truly brought them to life. Ian is a high power attorney, sort of a no nonsense kind of guy, and Morey captured that with his gruff, no arguments tone of voice. Oh but when Cole was on one of his tangents, Ian became soft-spoken and tender and it made him that much more endearing. Cole was sort of flighty and a bit air headed, Morey gave him an easy-going lighthearted tone. When push came to shove and Cole got upset though, you could hear the anger and pain in his voice. Fantastic job on telling the story.

If you like slightly angsty but still adult stories with one of those hard-fought happy ever afters, then this is the perfect book for you. I can’t wait to start the next book, and I so hope that Mark and Thomas get a story at some point.

Review: Caleb is working his way through college by any means necessary. He is a good guy, smart, with attainable goals. He never factored in considering someone else’s feelings on how he made his money. When he meets Patton at the bar where he is a part-time bar tender, full-time, off the books, rent boy, there is a definite mutual attraction.

And when Caleb accepts an offer for a massage at the salon Patton works at, he starts to consider the possibility of something more for the first time in a long time. Then Patton makes an off the cuff remark and sinks the ship before it ever leaves the docks.

This has to be my favorite story and coupling in this series thus far. The story unfolds at the perfect pace, each piece of the puzzle being turned at the right time. The struggle Caleb faces was not only real, believable, it was painful. I loved the fact that he realized selling his body wasn’t the best line of work, but refused to be put down or looked down on because he pursued the only option he was given.

Patton pissed me off early on, but then Grace did a fantastic job of humbling him and showing how he struggled with his attraction to Caleb, equal only to his disdain of Caleb’s choice of profession.

Narrated by Tim Todd, and though it was my first listen with this narrator, it won’t be my last. He really captured the true voice for the characters. I could feel Caleb’s frustration and Patton’s indecision throughout the story. I thought it was poetic justice that Patton’s lying, cheating ex was read as a sniveling jackass, much like his character!

Emotional and engaging with a small dose of angst. Definitely a must read if you are a fan of Aria Grace and/or this series. Perhaps it will become your favorite as well.

I can’t wait to see what she brings to the table for the next couple in this series.

Narrated by Joel Leslie

A love of art…

A mutual interest in art draws two shy university students together. Ben admires Vinnie’s painting of the university building, so Vinnie invites him to an exhibition of his artwork. From a wealthy family, Ben purchases some of Vinnie’s art and arranges for the artist to personally hang the paintings in his apartment.

Starry, starry night…

Ben commissions Vinnie to paint his portrait, in order to spend more time with the artist. On the night of the sitting, Vinnie fingerpaints the starry night on Ben’s chest… and they kiss. They begin a relationship beneath the night sky, God’s own canvas.

But every relationship has its ups and downs and so it is with theirs. When Ben thinks Vinnie spends too much time with a fellow artist, his jealousy drives a wedge between them and forces Vinnie into the very thing Ben dreads.

Hold tight to your dreams…

Ben and Vinnie will have to walk through fire before they can find one another again. But if they believe, and if they keep their faith in the night sky and each other, just maybe they can make their dreams of love come true.

Review: Holden Peters gets caught with his hand down the wrong person’s pants. Rather than face the humiliation of having a deviant for a son, his father exiles Holden to The Garden, basically selling him to the owner, Mr. Leslie, to pay off a huge debt.

2 birds, 1 stone, so to speak.

Holden is beside himself not only because his father shipped him off with nothing more than a “Don’t come back!” but now he’s been sold to the owner of a brothel. He’s scared, alone, doesn’t get along well with one of the other flowers in the shop, and worst of all, Mr. Leslie wants to de-flower his newest flower.

I loved the premise of the story; naïve young man thrown into the lion’s den, other players in the game having a pissing contest over their spot in line, and the big, brooding butler that is to be Holden’s bodyguard. Holden most definitely wants him to guard his body alright. I enjoyed the costumes, the language fitting of the era and the blinders Holden wore.

Just one little speed bump for me. I wanted the scene between Holden and Richard to be just them. All that other mess was distracting; it pulled me out of the story and made the special moment between them less special for me. I hope there is more in this series in the future for them. I would love to see how their relationship forms and grows.

Still a fast, fun read and definitely worth consideration if you like historical type mm romance.
