Blurb: The cat’s out of the bag….

In a world that accepts shifters as normal and thinks nothing of human/shifter couples, baby shifters and small shifters are treated as subpar. They are not allowed into the more dangerous professions, and their mates have legal control over what they can and cannot do.

Nicholas Reed is about to challenge the established rules. At twenty-eight, Nick has just been accepted into New York’s Alpha Unit One—an elite law enforcement team, composed equally of humans and shifters, that specializes in drug crimes. It is Nick’s dream job. But if they find out what he’s hiding, his career could be destroyed.

Enter a huge complication in the form of Sam Black, an older lion shifter who is the leader of the unit… and Nick’s mate. Nick wants Sam, and he wants to keep his job, but he can’t have them both. He also can’t choose between them.

Review: Oh my goodness I loved this story. It’s rare where you read a story about grown men shifting into baby shifters. The ones introduced in this story were so cute and adorable. Baby shifters basically have no rights. Their mates get to decide their jobs for them. I have to admit this pissed me off. Yes they shift into baby shifters but they are still grown adults.

Nick’s character was a blast to read. He was cheeky, sarcastic and intent on his remaining part of the team despite his baby shifter status. Sam, an Alpha lion shifter and leader of the team, is shocked when he discovers Nicky’s secret. He tries to keep Nicky out of danger by telling him what to do which does not go over to well.

I liked the whole teams acceptance of Nicky and Connor. Sam and Nicky work things out in their own time. I hope this will become a series as a few questions remained unanswered especially about the culprits EFSS and the other Alpha Unit team that was ambushed. I want to read more about all these teams and what happens.

Fantastic and intriguing read.

Blurb: Blair Clark has reached his breaking point. Forced to leave one job because of sexual harassment, he’s having difficulty finding another. Since no one believes what happened, Blair’s left with a stain on his employment record that he can’t get rid of. He’s had to move back home with his mother. As if that’s not bad enough, he realizes his crush, Travis, is simply using him. His romantic life looks as hopeless as his job search.

Jack Ross is sure he’ll never find anyone who’ll love him for who he is. All anyone sees is the port-wine stain on his left cheek—not the man behind it. Even his mother thinks he should get rid of it. But the procedure is difficult and painful.

When Blair applies for a secretarial position with Jack’s firm, both men learn that beauty is, indeed, in the eye of the beholder. It’ll take a lot of trust to chase away their insecurities, but if they take a chance on one another, love will find a way.

Review:  This story is about not looking at what’s on the outside but what is on the inside, and about finding the beauty beneath the skin.  It is about abuse, acceptance, love and friendship plus a bit more that I find intriguing.  Now to me this story felt a bit rushed and is not my normal type of love story.

Blair had been told by his company to vacate after he tried to bring his boss up on sexual harassment at work.  It made it difficult to find a job.  To top it off his friends-with-benefits was not turning out to be so good, or at least for him.  Let’s just say it, his creepy friend is an abusing asshat who should be taken out and shot.  Thankfully he ends up in a job that might just be perfect for him; however I would have loved to find out what was going to happen when the secretary came back after two years.

Jack was born with a port-wine stain on his left cheek.  He had been called all sorts of names, screamed at, laughed at and picked on most of his life.  Even his mother gave him a hard time with it.  Then his first impression from Blair was shock, it turned out that he was refreshing in a way.  Now I have to say that I think the whole boyfriend stage came to fast for some as did the ‘I love you’, but then again it isn’t really a long story.

Now this is a really cute story and it flowed pretty good.  However the development was a bi off.  It seemed to be missing some crucial parts to make it a perfect story, at least to me.  Other than my issues with it though I found myself enthralled with it.  I loved the characters and the way they just seem to complement each other.  I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it.  Although I have to admit though, that I can’t see myself reading this more than once which was a shame, it is a really cute story.

Blurb: Don’t miss the Jeff Woods Mysteries from best-selling author Chris T. Kat! In Attachment Strings, Detective Jeff Woods starts thinking about how difficult and lonely it is being a cop, and that maybe Alex could fill a void in his life. Jeff isn’t sure he’s ready to play house or overcome his prejudices, but he begins to think Alex might be worth it. In Sacrifices, life is not easy with the Church of Virtue still spouting venom wherever they go, homophobes at the police department, a gangster who wants Alex in the worst possible way, and a bed that barely holds one grown man, much less two (and a child), but Jeff is there to stay for good. And in Swordplay, Jeff and his ex-partner are now owners of their own detective agency. Life is difficult at the best of times with Jeff’s partner, Alex, and Alex’s brother, Sean, both struggling. And Jeff and Parker’s investigation arouses the real killer’s interest, and if they don’t uncover his identity soon, it may be too late for them.

Review: If you hadn’t had a chance to read one of these stories, this gives you all three so you don’t have to wait to read them. I am not much for mysteries and very rarely find ones that I can get in to. However this author has stroked my interest quite a bit. A bit more mysteries and I will be set in this series.

Chris T. Kat - Attachment Strings Cover sAttachment Strings ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Detective Jeff Woods and his partner have a new case. Someone has been making threatening phone calls to the mayor’s daughter, vowing to kill her disabled child. Though there have been accidents at the girl’s school—enough to take the threats seriously—the facts are few, and leads are sparse.

Needing a breather from the burden of the case, Jeff heads to a bar, where he meets Alex Fisher. Alex isn’t his type, but he’s young and cocky and perfect for a one-night stand, or two. Soon Jeff starts thinking about how difficult and lonely it is being a cop, and that maybe Alex could fill a void in his life. But Alex has his own obligations: a disabled brother who is the target of threatening letters.

Jeff isn’t sure he’s ready to play house or overcome his prejudices, but he begins to think Alex might be worth it. Caught between his growing affection and his inner demons, Jeff struggles to focus on the case and protect Alex and his brother as the danger builds.

In this story the guys don’t really do anything for me. Alex is moody as hell, has a hell of a temper, and just bizarre. Whereas Jeff isn’t any better because he is prejudice and an idiot. Jeff is not only in the closet but he doesn’t much care for disabled people. So when things heat up with Alex, he is about to run because of Alex’s brother Sean. Sean is disabled and the sweetie pie of the group. So the characters didn’t much do anything for me, but the mystery did.

That was probably the best about the whole book. It focused more on the mystery then the two idiots. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened in the end.

Other than the characters, this book rocked. I had a lot of fun with it and can’t wait to start the second book. I think I might have just found a new mystery author for me. That is saying alot because I don’t really get into mysteries like I should. So, way to go Chris.

Chris T. Kat - Sacrifices Cover sSacrifices ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

When he was outed on the local news, Jeff Woods gave up his dream job as a detective to become an on-air radio personality. The sacrifice was worth it to keep Alex and Sean in his life, but Alex lost his job, too. Jeff can tell Alex worries he’s pressuring Jeff too much, first with Sean and now the lack of money, but he has no idea what that will lead Alex to do. Desperate times bring out the stupidity in some people, and when Jeff discovers Alex is in over his head in a situation he can’t handle, he needs all his self-control to stay calm.

Life is not easy with the Church of Virtue still spouting venom wherever they go, homophobes at the police department, a gangster who wants Alex in the worst possible way, and a bed that barely holds one grown man, much less two (and a child), but Jeff is there to stay for good, and he’ll do what it takes to make Alex believe him.

Now the reason I really liked it was the fact that Jeff was a hot detective, but since he got outed well let’s just say he is no longer a police detective. He is now a radio host, which actually doesn’t look to good for our man. Top it off Alex no longer has a job either and is scared of his financials because of his brother Sean.

There is a bit of suspense in this book along with some deception and quirky attitudes. I am glad to see Jeff and Sean getting a long better though. There really doesn’t seem to be too much of a mystery in this book which sucked. I mean I wanted a mystery and wham there is nothing major so it wasn’t as hot as the first one. I hope the next book actually has a bit more to it.

Chris T. Kat - Swordplay Cover sSwordplay ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

After leaving his dream job as an Atlantic City detective, Jeff Woods has moved to Washington DC with his life partner, Alex Fisher, and Alex’s disabled little brother Sean. Parker Trenkins, Jeff’s ex-partner on the force, has made the move as well, along with his significant other David. Jeff and Parker partner up once again, but in a new way, as owners of their own detective agency.

Life is difficult at the best of times. Sean loses sight in one of his eyes, a direct result of being pushed into the Atlantic by a homicidal maniac a year ago. In his struggle to deal with everything, a restless Alex enrolls in tai chi classes at a nearby school.

As it happens, a murder case Jeff and Parker take involves the head of that very tai chi school, Charles Cooper. Cooper is a suspect in the murder of a financial corporation official. He appears to have motive. Jeff and Parker’s investigation arouses the real killer’s interest, and if they don’t uncover his identity soon, it may be too late for them.

Now we have a murder to solve and at the one place where Alex was working out at. Sean had been hurt last year and he had lost sight in one of his eyes and wasn’t handling things to well. Jeff and Parker opened up a private detective agency which rocked for me, because the dude wasn’t really a radio show host type of guy. Jeff must protect his lover and find out who was behind the killing. However it seems more complex than that.

This was an exciting read and I was so glad to have gotten another mystery. This was so much fun to read and I couldn’t figure out who did it. Way to go Chris for giving me another great read.

Overall

I had ups and downs with this bundle and still really don’t care for Jeff. However the way he turned around with Sean made him come up in points for me. I loved that Alex is starting to share his burdens and Jeff is not being as overbearing as he once was. I also loved Parker and David in the stories. I do wish that there had been more action in this though.

I enjoyed reading this and would definitely recommend it. Also I hope to read more by this author.

Michael Campbell can’t hold a job for more than a few days. He’s lucky his foreman is giving him another chance with the solar panel project at an elementary school in Atlantic City. When he spies a man walking strangely in front of the school, Michael laughs, assuming he’s drunk or high. Little does he realize that Joshua Stone, a teaching assistant, has cerebral palsy, and he’s having a bad muscle control day. Taking a tumble right in front of the handsome construction worker is just his luck.

When Michael learns the truth, he feels bad for his cruel behavior. He offers to give Joshua—and his tricycle, the Racing Rhonda—a lift. Joshua accepts the help, and suddenly there’s a gorgeous man breezing into his life, turning his world upside down. But Michael has more issues than his inability to hold down a job, and neither man is sure if they’ll be able to overcome their fears in order to be together.

Review: Michael Campbell’s mission in life is pretty simple… stay with a job for more than a couple of weeks, get drunk and get laid. Everything changes when he meets Joshua, the shy teacher’s aide with Cerebral Palsy. At first Michael ridicules him, thinking Joshua is drunk in the middle of the day since he can’t walk straight. Learning about Joshua’s disability makes Michael feel like the south end of a north bound mule and he sets out to make it right.

Joshua has been sneered at, leered at, picked on and put down his entire life because of his disability. The gorgeous electrician laughing at him and calling him a drunk isn’t anything he’s not used to. The apology, the ride home and the resulting friendship that blooms, that’s very different. Neither of them is a stranger to being on their own, to not being wanted because they are different. The question is, can they look past years of self-loathing and see what they see in each other?

This story captured my attention from the start and continued to carry its weight from there. This wasn’t a story about a guy down on his luck, lived a hard life, finding his prince charming. No, this was a story about two men down on their luck, for different reasons, getting a chance to have the life they’ve always wanted, but never thought they’d have. It was a little sad to listen to the inner thoughts and self-loathing each of them had. Joshua doesn’t see himself as attractive or desirable, mostly because of the effect his disability has had on his body, but a worthless step dad and a mother too wrapped up in said step dad to listen when her son told her how the man ridiculed and picked on him. Michael has never learned to read and doesn’t see himself as any prize either. Together, they both become more with the confidence that they lend to each other. What I enjoyed most about this story was Michael’s devotion and patience with Joshua, it was beautiful and brilliant.

Narrated by Joel Leslie and he is quickly becoming one of my favorite narrators. I love how every book I listen to that he voices is distinctly different. By that I mean the tones and nuances he uses in each book is different, rarely are there any two voices the same, that’s amazing in my opinion.

Definitely a must read for anyone that enjoys the stories with a hard fought happy ever after.

Review: Oh wow this story was so good.

After the horrible events of a third war only a select few men and women were able to bear children. These people were known as breeders. I have to say, I absolutely hated how breeders were not given a choice in who they married.

I thought it was crazy that only people with money and in high positions were allowed to marry breeders and produce as many children as possible or they could let the breeder be with someone else.

Luca, a breeder, and Marcus his bodyguard go through several life altering events throughout this book. The two sides that started the war are as different as night and day. I shuddered about what the Southern Union did to their breeders. I was disgusted that anyone would do those things.

I really liked most of the characters throughout this wonderful story. It had its humorous moments as well as tension, action and drama. Some scenes will leave you holding your breath awaiting the outcome.

This was a well written story that holds your attention from start to finish. Hot sex along with a great plot made this a fantastic read.

Highly recommended.

Review: Well this was another rollercoaster ride from start to finish. Smartass Berit, his mate Tom, and best friend Carson with his mate Niyara, are still fighting to destroy the breeding stations of the Tash’Ba queen. Each one seems to be getting worse than the last one as the beast seem to be changing and becoming more vicious and cunning.

This time more is revealed as they learn the Queen is heading to Earth and her plans for it. Also traitors are among the humans.
This was so fast paced. I was just turning the pages to find out what would happen next. I was engrossed from start to finish seeing what more was in store for Berit and his mate and friends. And plus to see what next off the wall comment Berit would say.

Berit really is a favorite character of mine. He is so over the top at times and really cannot keep his mouth shut. Berit also does not see himself as strong or really all that brave. But his biggest strength is that he keeps doing it and keeps fighting.

Tom and Berit’s relationship has grown some too. Berit still is not completely comfortable with everything. But he is also making an effort to learn. He is willing to give Tom things he needs. Berit understands that the Nadisc are protective and possessive of their mates. Sometimes Tom needs reassurances too and maybe just to be asked if something Berit is about to do is OK. And yes there is more tail sex, which is still surprisingly hot.

I felt this book tied things up nicely on one hand, but also left enough unanswered questions about Berit and other situations that I see at least another book being needed. Or at least I want more.

I truly enjoy the interactions of these characters and the world the author has created. I want to know more about how Berit and Tom’s relationship progresses and how the other relationship of his friends go.

Blurb: Something draws history teacher Rick Grady across the school hall to German teacher Marty Lindson. Maybe it’s their shared love of the ocean. Maybe it’s just that Marty is so hot, but maybe it’s something more—something mysterious. All Rick knows is that every time he gets close, Marty pulls away. After another cancelled date, Rick goes to Marty’s apartment to demand an explanation. And what Rick discovers blows his mind.

The ocean calls to Marty because he’s a merman. He’s been afraid to get close to Rick, not just to keep his world a secret, but because Rick is his mate. And to claim his mate would change everything about Marty. No matter how much he loves Rick, he doesn’t know if he’s ready to alter his entire life.

Review: Tidal Change is my very first merman book, and also my first read of Chris T. Kat. What fun this was! There were some ups and downs, some sexy moments and no real angst. The mer-world building was impressive; there was a lot of attention to detail and a lot of explanation as to how and why things occur, including when and how they shift, species rituals and their sexuality. The book did start off at a fast pace- much of Rick and Marty’s history – meeting and initial attraction took place before the reader came on board. While this did require a bit of a mental adjustment, the upside of this was that it allowed the story to progress at a faster pace.

The friends to lovers bit with the “will they, won’t they?” is a trope often used because, well, it works. Besides the Marty and Rick back and forth, you have some humor, a bit of insta-love and some sexy moments in which you could definitely see their relationship building. There were some serious moments as well – concerning whether or not two men from different species could actually make their relationship work, which balanced out the lightness of the rest of the book quite nicely.

This was a quick read with a fun foray into a fantasy world with a few ups and downs and a happy ending. If you are willing to suspend belief and take a quick ride into Chris T. Kat’s merworld, you might just enjoy the trip. I know I did.

The question now is how to get the unicorns back to Eden, as well as solve the mystery of who has stolen them to begin with. Review: Sexy Samuel is sent to rescue the kidnapped unicorns. While there, he meets his other half, handsome Jordan. He finds the one responsible for kidnapping the unicorns and brings him to the Queen of Eden. With help of Jordan, he frees the unicorns of the cursed halters and opens a gateway to send them home after he closes the gate that Don opened to begin with without his knowledge.

Wonderfully written adventurous and magical read from start to finish. Samuel and Jordan worked well together to help the unicorns. The intimate scene between Jordan and Samuel was hot.

Great read.

Sacrifices

(A Jeff Woods Mystery 02)

by

Chris T Kat

Blurb: When a bad day at work culminates in losing out on a promotion, Jim Sanders shifts into his animal form to let off steam. Then his bad day turns into a bad night—while prowling his Atlantic City neighborhood as a large gray house cat, he’s caught in a torrential downpour. What little luck he has washes down the gutter when his new boss, Andrew Wright, catches him taking shelter on his porch, brings him inside, and starts calling him Mr. Frosty.

As a feline, Jim becomes the inadvertent confessor for his boss’s lonely son, Tony, a victim of schoolyard bullying. As a human, he feels drawn to Andrew, a man he wanted to resent. Finding love was never part of Jim’s plan for the future—not with his bizarre secret—yet suddenly he finds himself navigating that minefield anyway. But not everything is easy, especially for an interracial gay couple dealing with prejudice in the workplace, at Tony’s school, and even within their own families.

Review: Jim isn’t happy when he is passed over for promotion, gets caught in a downpour while in his cat form and then gets picked up by his new boss’s son. Taken into his Andrew’s warm home and becoming confidant to both Andrew and his son Tony wasn’t Jim’s idea of a night out, but Jim begins to realize that his resentment is unfounded, and as a human begins to fall for Andrew. But they have problems to overcome; Tony is being bullied at school, prejudice at work and some slight bigotry in their own families and Jim’s little secret, can Andrew and Jim make things work?

This is a great family story with an incredible cute kid and a slight twist of a shifter cat. Jim has had a bad day at work and decides to run it off in his cat form, he ends up taking refuge from a downpour on his new boss’s porch and gets taken in as a stray. Andrew moved to Atlantic City for a better life with his son Tony, but with new work pressure, discovering that his son is being bullied and a mysterious stray cat he is struggling to cope. Striking up a relationship isn’t something that Jim is sure he wants but the more he learns about Andrew and Tony the more he wants to know, but Jim has some hard choices to make… like is he ready to be an instant daddy.

I really enjoyed this story and thought that it was well written, the storyline was good, and it didn’t downplay the effects kids can have on a relationship. Jim and Andrew are great characters and we get a good feel for both of them, Tony is a delightful child that seemed very real in his behavior and added greatly to the story, the secondary characters were good with two of them being woven into the storyline very well. The underlying bigotry was a surprise to all but the prejudice against gays was one the characters were expecting to an extent, the bullying of Tony was well handled but breaks your heart for the suffering he goes through.

The relationship between Jim and Andrew is good but I felt like it was moving too quickly especially with a child involved, I felt it should have been more developed and they had known each other longer before Jim was considered as parent material. The shifter aspect was good but we didn’t learn much about it and I would have liked more of an explanation, like an in-depth discussion with Andrew about it other than just a little shock and easy acceptance. The sex between Jim and Andrew is hot and has a slight kinky twist, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

I will recommend this to those who love easy shifter stories, interracial relationships, supporting partners, facing bigotry and prejudice, accepting love and a very happy ending.

Blurb: Wanted: one bear. Must be burly and hairy, and strong enough to paddle. Hunter Bell is on the prowl, and he knows just where to find his prey: at the Bear Trap, a gay leather bar he’s more than a little familiar with. So many men, so little time. He’s just about to pounce on his choice of the evening when a newcomer enters the bar, turning everyone’s head. Adrian Michaels is everything Hunter despises in a man. He’s lean and boyish looking, and he has the deepest dimples Hunter’s ever seen.

And yet there is an immediate attraction, one that neither man can deny. They’re both too astonished to do anything about this apparent interest in one another, and they waste their opportunity. Now it’s up to Hunter to forget about his stereotypical preference and go for the guy that’s just entered his dreams. If only he can admit to himself that Adrian’s what he really wants…

Review: This short story has a very simple plot, an old-time classic he’s-not-my-type where the protagonist suddenly realizes he’s into a man who doesn’t check even one box of his preferences. In addition, this story has the insta-lust/insta-love thing going on for which I don’t actually care. This thing “I took one look at you and fell head over heels” is a total red flag for me. So how come I liked this?

I have no idea how it happened but I can safely declare that I was bewitched by this read in the exact same way Hunter got bewitched by Adrian. Those words in this text must have had some kind of a spell, because I was enwrapped in there from page one and when I came out of it I was even slightly bedazzled.

The plot was not challenging at all, but it flew so effortlessly. The character’s emotions were not only easily accessible but they kind of stuck with you and made you feel along with the characters with a smile plastered on your face, which you only notice after your face start to feel sore from its constant presence.

And he’s another thing that baffled me; the spanking. Hunter is this mean bear who’s in the hunt for a guy of his caliber, strong enough to handle what he can dish out. Is in a mean state to dish out pain, power, struggle, and hard sex. Instead, he’s stranded with Adrian, who’s the exact opposite of what Hunter’s looking for. And he turns mellow, caring, and considerate. Their only “rough play” is spanking and by all that is right with the world I should have disliked the Hell out of this. I’m still baffled that not only I liked it, I found so damn suiting this pair, and so very erotic, that I have my mind made. There is some serious spell in this book. It’s enchanted, no other way about it.

I suppose I should have expected this on some level as Ms. Kat’s work up until now has left me quite satisfied. She made this pair work and she did it with a dose of humor I can’t resist. I loved these men, loved their banter, and loved how they interacted, the awkwardness, the coming together. I found them hot and sexy, sensual and erotic. So much so that I didn’t mind at all the elements that usually put me off. No, not only I didn’t mind them, I found them mandatory into making this read the enjoyable and fun one it is.

For me this story worked, and it worked well. Recommended!

Blurb: Detective Jeff Woods and his partner have a new case.

Alex isn’t his type, but he’s young and cocky and perfect for a one-night stand. Or two.

Gigi’s Review: Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥5 Hearts

This book will make you look at those living with special needs or caring for them in a new light. Life is hard enough, so imagine combining that with being a single, gay, caretaker for your disabled and misunderstood younger brother…life can be breathtaking and scary.

This story is about overcoming one’s own prejudices, taking down those walls protecting the heart, and allowing one’s self to become vulnerable and sacrifice for love and family. The author’s writing is powerful and I felt the sting in my own heart as I read on through the nail-biting plot. The whole range of emotions from humor, arousal, anger and hurt, to fear and fulfillment hit me while reading this highly recommended book! That, to me, shows the true skill of the author.

Thommie’s Review:  Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥4 Hearts

Now this was a book, which at first sight had me thinking I wouldn’t like it. The Homicide Detective Jeff Woods started his introduction in a not very appealing way for me, what with him being closeted, his preferences were butch/macho/buff men like himself and his counterpart was the not his type, who he didn’t want to hook up with at all, etc. etc. etc. However fairly quick in the introduction of the story it became apparent that it was an excellent one.

As I said, Jeff is closeted and adamant that he will not come out, especially in his line of job, for anyone. He doesn’t need the trouble that comes from homophobic colleagues and in the end there is no one in his life worth coming out for. Jeff has long stopped believing in that special someone with whom he’ll form that special relationship and those unicorns are right there side by side with love in the dream realm. He has no expectations for something like that, even if his house is starting to feel quite empty and his life quite hollow. But that’s how it is and that Friday night at the club, he’s not trying to find his better half, simply someone to get off with. So when tall, blonde and sexy Alex hits on him, Jeff still has no intention of even hooking up with Alex. He is so NOT his type at all. And Jeff has no intention of staying cuddled in bed after the deed either. He especially has no intention searching for him at the same club two weeks later. And definitely, he has no freaking intention falling in love with a guy who has the care of a child, a disabled one at that. Yeah, things didn’t really go as planned for Jeff.

And I think that this book was simply great. It had it all. Lovable characters, both Jeff and Alex were exiting, appealing, flawed, and real. I had a blast with Alex; he was quite funny despite his life or because of it. He was also extremely sexy and hot. His and Jeff’s encounters were sinful and sensual and aroused feelings from you that were from sweet to downright carnal. It was a great chemistry, a pair I loved reading about. Jeff was also the hilarious type making you smile even when you wanted to give him a good shake.

So all right, I had a thing with the insta-love again, especially since there wasn’t just the leap from single to a relationship, but from single to a family involved here. And there was the mystery part where it wasn’t such a mystery at all, but rather a matter of time till the detectives saw what was in front of their damn eyes, making me wonder what the hell were they waiting for and why couldn’t they see what I was seeing all along and getting me frustrated a bit there because I felt it dragged a bit too long. And really, the end was a bit too much; I mean come on, no matter how much of a lunatic that end was a bit stretched.

As for the story’s ending and the guy’s relationship, well I’m left with a “what the heck?” roaming my head. Is it just me or was that a tad abrupt?

But anyway, I loved the entirety of this book, it was funny, it was fast, it was a bit dramatic and emotional, it had a variety of things and evoked many emotions from the reader and I had fun reading it. I’m also very much interested in Parker’s relationship with David; I mean who can resist a “pup” right?

So totally recommended guys, it is a heck of a ride.

Blurb: Not all werewolf societies are created equal. The one Tim Evans grew up in detests those not of “pure blood”—so when Tim discovers his mate is Jay, a male fox-wolf hybrid ten years his junior, it shocks him, to say the least. Too young to claim his mate and too weak to protect him from the rest of the pack, Tim fears for Jay’s life. When a human gets hold of Jay, Tim believes he has lost him forever.

The next eighteen years are hell. Tim devotes his life to his family and running their stable, but anger and depression threaten to consume him. Then fate brings Jay back into his life. Tim knows Jay feels the same attraction he does—mates always do. So why won’t Jay act on it?

Review: Tim is thirteen when he first discovers his mate, but the pull is too much to ignore and against the orders of his mother and brother he seeks him out. Tim gets the shock of his life, when he discovers his mate is still a cub of only three and that he is also a wolf/fox hybrid.  But, the danger his mate is in forces him to try to protect him, because Tim’s pack is on the hunt… for hybrids. Eighteen years of struggling to cope without his mate takes its toll on Tim, until one day his mate turns up looking to buy a horse.  But, although he seems attracted to Tim, he doesn’t seem to have an idea about shifters or mating… just what is Tim supposed to do?

This story is split into two parts, 1993 when Tim is thirteen and first finds his mate and 2011 when he meets him for the second time. Thirteen year old Tim risks his life to protect the wolf/fox cub that is his mate. He knows that if any of his pack finds them, then Jay won’t have a chance of survival.  But, in the process of saving the cute cub, he lands in the hands of humans and Tim thinks he may never see him again. When they meet again eighteen years later, Tim is over the moon, but he quickly realizes that Jay has no clue of the world they live in or the danger that he is in… including from Tim’s own father, the Alpha of the pack.

I really enjoyed this story and was pleased with how quickly it moved along. During the first part of the story you can feel Tim’s torn feelings on having disobeyed his family, but also his confusion and elation of having found his mate. You get the fear of having to run to protect his mate and the devastation of having to leave him in the hands of humans. Jay is an absolute sweetheart as a cub and you will fall in love with the little cheeky cub, and it is heart breaking when Tim and Jay are torn apart. During the second part of the story we have them meeting as adults. Tim struggles to contain his wolf and not to just mate Jay in front of the world, while Jay is confused by the powerful attraction he feels for a stranger. Tim has to explain everything concerning the shifter world to Jay, in-between hot bouts of sex and then Tim has to protect Jay when his father discovers Jay is a hybrid.

I have to say that this story was interesting with its shifter world. The fact that they could recognize mates from an early age and that while they have fast healing they still receive scars and that there are some injuries that can’t be healed was more realistic than some shifter stories. It was also really interesting seeing the way the pack ranking worked or rather how they tried to force it to work, and I am hoping that there will be a book for Robin (Tim’s brother), because he is such a great character that he deserves his own happiness. All the characters are great in their own way and Tim’s family is as interesting as the main characters are, and the main characters Tim and Jay are brilliant.

I will recommend this to those who love shifters, tension, conflict, attraction, pining, danger, escapes, really hot sex and a happy ending.
