The Case of the Sexy Shakespearean

(Middlemark Mystery 01)
by

Tara Lain

Dr. Llewellyn Lewis leads a double life, as both an awkward but distinguished history professor and the more flamboyant Ramon Rondell, infamous writer of sensational historical theories. It’s Ramon who first sets eyes on a gorgeous young man dancing in a club, but Llewellyn who meets teaching assistant Blaise Arthur formally at an event held for wealthy socialite Anne de Vere, descendant of Edward de Vere, seventeenth Earl of Oxford-who some believe was the real Shakespeare. Anne wants Llewellyn to prove that claim, even though many have tried and failed. And she’s willing to offer a hefty donation to the university if he succeeds.

It also means a chance for Llewellyn to get to know Blaise much better.

Not everyone thinks Llewellyn should take the case-or the money. Between feuding siblings, rival patrons, jealous colleagues, and greedy administrators, almost anyone could be trying to thwart his work… and one of them is willing to kill to do it.

When Anne de Vere turns up dead, the police believe Blaise is the murderer. Only the shy, stuttering professor who has won his heart can prove otherwise…

Blurb: Jason Sinclair isn’t very good at relationships, which is no surprise given a childhood with an eccentric father and an unloving, emotionally damaged mother. After leaving home at seventeen, Jason has spent the past four years doing everything he could to stay away. That changes when he learns his mother is dying of cancer, and he grudgingly returns to Larame Bay to say good-bye.

Word on the street is that Jason will sell his family’s property and run back to LA the minute his mother dies, but when Jason meets the new groundskeeper, the sexy and confident Adam Trent, all that changes. As Jason begins to fall for Adam, he surprises everyone, including himself, by sticking around after all.

However, it doesn’t take long to realize someone out there desperately wants Jason gone from Larame Bay and will make sure that happens—one way or another.

Review: I came across S.C. Wynne not too long ago and right off the bat I found a new author to love. S.C. Wynne’s stories are well written, fully developed and perfectly paced. The story just seemed to flow right off the pages. I knew after I finished this story that I was going to be broke because I am going to go get the rest of her books because damn they sound good.

Jason’s relationship with his father was a dream; however his relationship with his mother was the exact opposite. She was in fact not a mother at all, especially when he came out gay. So over four years ago when he turned eighteen, he left and tried never to come back. Now he has to go back as his mother is dying from cancer. He hated to go back but knew he had to. Then he met Adam.

Adam was more than just the grounds keeper; he seemed to be just magic. He had the gift to make someone relax. Adam however wanted Jason in more ways than one. He just had to help him reconnect with his mother, show him a reason to stay and help him to heal. On top of all that they needed to figure out whom the hell wanted Jason out of the way.

It comes off a bit heavy and very emotional with a lot of heat. It also has mystery added in, with a touch of danger and even a bit of pain. I loved the way these guys just mixed and how they seemed to always engage pretty well. So much so that there is a humorous banter between them, that it kicks it up for me. For the first time in my life, there was very little sex involved and it didn’t bother me. It was just so damn cute and tempting with quite a bit of heat.

I had so much fun reading this and look forward to reading more by this author. I would definitely recommend it.

Excited to begin his first year of college, Brett Bridgeworth has just one problem: he sucks at math. Luckily there’s the sensual and mysterious math tutor, Jeremy Price, to help him out. It isn’t long before Jeremy is tutoring Brett in more than just pie charts, but it isn’t until they split up that Brett discovers Jeremy’s twisted, obsessive side.

Sam Hawthorne is two years ahead of Brett, and they share a strong mutual attraction. When Brett breaks it off with Jeremy and gets involved with Sam, disturbing things start happening. It soon becomes obvious that Jeremy isn’t willing to let Brett go without a fight.

Review: S.C. Wynne has come up with another good story. I have not read many of this authors stories but the ones I have read were always fascinating. Now I am not one for new adults or college students but this one was pretty damn good.

The story is told in the first person point of view which kind of drives me a bit nuts. I always want to hear from both characters to get into the way they both feel at all times. The only issues I had with this book was the way it read, seeming like a diary or journal type of story which for me loses interest pretty fast. However I loved the way the characters just came together for me.

Brett is having fun at school, but he just can’t seem to get into math. He definitely needs a bit of help. He is afraid of letting his father down. Jeremy seems good at first but he is not all that he seems. Brett must trust his friends but the problem is his tutor turns up to be crazy after they ended things. Things are about to heat up, when Brett gets involved with Sam.

I liked Sam the most; however Brett comes off a bit needy. Now with this story it seems like there are stories mixed in with the original story. Like Brett and his dad for one.

It was a great story and I did enjoy reading it. It has hot sex, suspense, action and a bit of quirk to it. I would definitely recommend it.

Blurb: Finding a mate is supposed to be one of the most magical moments of a bat shifter’s life. For poor Lake Truman, it’s a disaster. His mate’s rejection would have killed the magic all by itself, but the dead body cinches the whole thing.

Bryson Caill just ended a long-term relationship and moved back to his childhood home. He wants to put the pieces of his life back together before entering another relationship. But what he wants and what he gets are two very different things.

Review: This series is a spin-off of Finding Happy, which is part of the Wingspan series, book two. The events in this book follows the same time line as those in Finding Happy.

Bat shifters are a strange breed. When they first meet their mates it makes the bat shifter blind until they get it on and mate. So when Lake finds his mate he knew what to expect. Lake, his brother and best friend snuck out of their home to go drinking. He had not expected to find his mate before even walking into the building. Nor had he expected his mate to act the way he did.

Bryson is a human raised by bat shifter moms and pretty much knew all that happened with being a bat shifter. He had just moved back home after a disaster of a relationship and had not expected to find out that he is a mate. He was still in love with his ex, or so he thinks. With that going on and the murders it looks like their little town just got a new deputy. Now if only he can figure out his mating.

I have always loved April’s stories ever since she put out her first book. I am amazed at the worlds she creates and the characters just make the book rock. They are quirky and charming, even the humans. You get adventure, danger, excitement and maybe some sexy times in this book and so much more.

I had a blast reading it and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: Alejandro worked for Stonewall Investigations, in fact it was Zane that brought him on. He was good at his job so when Griffin showed up, he knew he would get to the bottom of it. He just hadn’t expected to like him so much.

Griffin had been diagnosed as bi-polar at the age of fourteen. After his mom’s death, he took to drinking pretty heavy, and even lost contact with his father. Here he was on med’s and drinking, not a good combination. Which is how he ended up on the couch with a dead body on the floor. His roommate was murdered and he had no clue. He needed help in more ways then one.

Well the focus was more on Griffin’s problems but the romance was also there. There was a bit mentioned about the serial killer again, but didn’t focus on it as much. This one was more love and sexy time then action packed. It was better than the first one, but still a little on the dull side. It does flow at a slower pace then one would expected but it was still told pretty good.

I did enjoy it, but my attention was not captured throughout the story like it should have. I can honestly say that this will not be one of those stories read more than once or twice. I liked Alejandro more than I liked Griffin and connected with him. Griffin just came off strange, but for some reason it made him feel more real to me. The story might not be what I would like, but it does feel like people you know and hang with.

Overall it is a very good story, well told, and something I would recommend.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: Zane lost his husband to a serial killer named the Unicorn. A man bent on killing young gay men. It had been rumored that he had been killed, but now with the latest murder well you can guess. Zane worked for an Investigation company that helped the LGBTQ community and those who walked in the door. They never really turned anyone down. Which explains a high priced lawyer in his office asking for his help.

Lorenzo is a sexy ass defense attorney that would drive any one insane. He comes off to many as one would think a defense attorney would. However to Zane he is a very sweet man, although at first Zane the same as others. Someone murdered two young adults but a young gay man was blamed. The killer will be a surprise to all.

I never suspected the one behind it. Now the mention of the serial killer is here and there, just a few words about him and what he is up to, so there is no real heat in that. Although with Zane loosing his husband to the creep, I can see why he is a focus, but for the story not so much. It is a very well told mystery that will keep you on the edge of your seat and biting your nails. The romance is slow building and very sweet. The guys are perfect together.

Action packed, danger filled and some hot sexy times are just a few things you get in this book. Now the bad news is, it is more focused on the romance, and the mystery is to the side. I was actually wanting the opposite, a good mystery with a little romance. Other than that it is a great first book in the series and I found myself liking it. It didn’t keep my attention like it should have but came pretty damn close.

We will see how book two goes but so far I am liking the story quite a bit.

The overall feeling of this book is one of mystery and drama. Noah’s life is not hearts and roses as he struggles with different issues. The mystery of the story is amazing. I liked the details and the way everything flowed seamlessly.

Great read.

As a hurricane bears down on them, a dead body surfaces, and then a purple backpack loaded with stolen jewels. Alex and Hunter’s vacation paradise just turned into hell on earth.

Review: This book is part of a series and must be read in order.

We first met Hunter and Alex (was Shawn) in Hitting Black Ice and now we re-join them in  another action packed adventure when all they are trying to do is enjoy a holiday. Even though the guys thought the past was behind them it becomes apparent that not everything was tied off neatly when a surprising twist is revealed. Hunter handles the news badly and after Alex has a brush with a couple of dangerous bar customers they really need a holiday.

Their holiday gets off to a great start, relaxing and just being together while Alex catches up with childhood friends, but a couple of their new friends are acting suspiciously. The truth comes out and with a hurricane bearing down on them trouble heads their way, and Hunter and Alex take it into their own hands to protect their friends from the jewel thief who wants his boyfriend and his jewels back… and the Russian mobster who is determined to get his wife’s jewels back at any cost.

This is a fantastic story that has action and danger raining down on Hunter and Alex, try as they might they just can’t avoid it but they face the danger head on. Their relationship grows stronger and their love deeper as they face the trials that life throws them, it’s a bit of a bumpy ride but they come out stronger the other side with more hope for a future.

Heloise West has written a story that you are never quite sure what will happen next, it surprises at turns and has you eagerly turning pages as Nick and Alex’s adventures unfold… and yes it is an adventure because that’s the only way that I could describe their life together. I loved reading this book and losing myself in the story, it held my attention from the first page and while the ending is great I was still sad to have come to the end of the story.

I recommend this to those readers who love everyday guys stumbling across danger, who love a couple whose relationship grows at every turn, who love twists and surprises and the bad guys getting what’s coming to them and an ending that makes you smile.

Review: With this particular series, you must start with book one. This is the love story of Oliver and Kade, with their ups and downs, pain and heartache, and the danger both are in.

I came across this author when her first book in this series came out, and I have to tell you that I have fallen in love with this whole group. The dangers these men have gone through and where they are today is just about amazing. The characters are really deep and a bit quirky. There are some pretty freaky twists and turns to it as well.

Kade and Oliver have had such a hard past. Oliver is just coming into information about himself and his brother, he had not known existed. And poor Kade is going through what happened to him by his family, and the after affects is major. He thinks he is so weak so he won’t let Oliver in on his sessions with the Doctor, and Oliver thinks, well I can’t really figure out Ollie’s mind yet. He is a very complex young man, but a nice surprise is Kade wants to get married.

To top it off, after Ollie’s stroke, things are a bit hard around the house. Then someone is out to get them still. Things just don’t seem to calm down around these two men. Lies, deception, and so much more are just swarming them. People from the past are showing up, things are just getting deeper and deeper for them.

Now with this story I loved the characters and what is going on. What I didn’t care so much about is all the excess stuff that was added in. This book felt drawn out and very slow paced for me. It felt like the author just threw things in and wished for the best. The characters are so dependent on each other that it just seems strange. Oh the love is there for you to see, but for them to be in the back pocket of each other just felt weird.

You are focused on Kade’s mental breakdown as well as what is happening around him. He slowly looses it, then the author throws in a new reason, which worked pretty good. However it never was answered on how he got the drug into his system. Now the author does give us a happy ending. However most of the story was full of things one would never believe. Also it looks like Nathan didn’t commit suicide, but then they say he did. It never really gets answered, just suggestions. The drama is a bit too much for me, but hey it works I suppose.

Over all it is a very good story, but to me it was just way to much. It has a lot going on, and if you don’t read the previous books you will definitely get left behind.

Shawn is on the run from the law and love to protect himself and anyone else involved. One man is dead because of him, and his life now is simple and easily thrown into a bag at any hint of danger. Until he meets Hunter, and he no longer wants to run.

Forced into a hostage situation, buried passion explodes in the aftermath, and sex in the supply closet brings their hearts back to life. Tentatively, step by step they begin to explore a relationship together until the past catches up with Shawn.

FBI agent Nick Truman has finally found his man, but when Shawn escapes, he focuses his attention on Hunter. Shawn returns, even though it means sacrificing himself to save Hunter from the man who framed him for murder.

Send Lawyers, Guns, and Roses

(Heart & Haven 02)

When Hunter and Alex (formally Shawn) are given the vacation of a lifetime, it’s a chance for them to pay attention to romance and get out of the path of danger. The tiny Caribbean island of Saba is gorgeous, the first to have marriage equality, and the Sabans are the nicest people on earth.

There’s lots of rum poolside for relaxing and a room with a mirror on the ceiling for passion. Hot karaoke nights, cold beer, and new friends.

Their new friends Orfeo and Max, and Max’s sister Talisha, share a troubling secret. Alex and Hunter want to help. As a hurricane bears down on them, a dead body surfaces, and a purple backpack loaded with stolen jewels leads a gang of dangerous men to the island.

Alex would rather poke his own eyes out with a pointy stick than call on his old enemy Nick Truman for help; he’d also do anything to keep Hunter out of danger. But even his old nemesis can’t reach them now.

Once again, they only have each other to depend on as their paradise is about to become hell on earth.

Lying Eyes

by

This bartender’s art lies in more than mixing drinks …

Randy Vaughan is a six-foot-three mass of mysteries to his customers and his friends. Why does a former Secret Service agent now own Mata Hari, a successful piano bar? Where did a muscle daddy get his passion for collecting fine art? If he’s as much a loner as his friends believe, why does he crave weekly sessions at an exclusive leather club?

Randy’s carefully private life unravels when Jack Fraser, a handsome art historian from England, walks into his bar, anxious to get his hands on a painting Randy owns. The desperation Randy glimpses in whiskey-colored eyes draws him in, as does the desire to submit that he senses beneath Jack’s elegant, driven exterior.

While wrestling with his attraction to Jack, Randy has to deal with a homeless teenager, a break-in at Mata Hari, and Jack’s relentless pursuit of the painting called Sunrise. It becomes clear someone’s lying to Randy. Unless he can figure out who and why, he may miss his chance at the love he’s dreamed about in the hidden places of his heart.

Note: Lying Eyes is a standalone gay romance novel with consensual bondage and a strong happy ending. It contains potential spoilers for Robert Winter’s prior novel, Every Breath You Take.
