Blurb: He’ll do anything to save the ranch, including baring it all.

Aubrey Klein is in real trouble—he needs some fast money to save the family ranch. His solution? A weekend job as a stripper at a club in Dallas. For two shows each Saturday, he is the star as The Lone Rancher.

It leads to at least one unexpected revelation: after a show, Garrett Lamston, an old friend from school, approaches the still-masked Aubrey to see about some extra fun… and Aubrey had no idea Garrett was gay. As the two men dodge their mothers’ attempts to set them up with girls, their friendship deepens, and one thing leads to another.

Aubrey knows his life stretching between the ranch and the club is a house of cards. He just hopes he can keep it standing long enough to save the ranch and launch the life—and the love—he really hopes he can have.

Cat’s Review:  ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Aubrey comes home to the ranch to find his dad ill and the ranch almost in foreclosure. He does what he has to do to save using a talent he kept hidden. He could dance.  He became the Lone Rancher at a strip club and were the top draw. He wears his mask to hide his identity. One night he runs into his friend and the man he wished was straight at the club. Perhaps his dream could come true if only either man could come out of the closet.

I really liked this story. I loved that Aubrey put the ranch and his family above himself and did what he had to for them. I also liked Garret and thought they made a good couple.

The Lone Rancher is a sweet story of two men that are putting their families first, hiding but now that they have found each other struggling with what to do.  I thought the descriptions were so good that I could visualize Aubrey’s dances.

If you are looking for a sweet and hot story with sexy cowboys, more erotic male-stripper, and some hot man-sex, you will like this one!

Aerin’s Review: ♥♥♥ 2.75 Hearts

I started this book hoping I would like it, but having reasonable doubts, because Andrew Grey is not exactly my perfect author match. And I’m not the biggest cowboy book fan. I simply don’t get off on the smell of horse (shit) and barn, and those are mandatory mentions in all cowboy books it seems. But once I commit to a series, I usually see it through, so I wanted to like this book, I really did! It didn’t happen, as you can see, but I can’t say I hated it either.

As you know from the plot, Aubrey’s overspending parents put their farm and their well-being in serious trouble, so Aubrey returns home from college to help them out. When he finds out about a stripper job at a gay bar where he’d be able to make insane amounts of money, he doesn’t think twice!

That boy is up on that stage, baring it all (or almost all if a jockstrap is considered much coverage), shaking his booty cowboy style, making men crazy with lust. Aubrey is still closeted, because the small town he lives in still has a 1950’s mentality. But, he’s in no danger of being discovered, because he’s hiding behind his Lone Cowboy mask during his performances.

Garrett is Aubrey’s longtime friend, and he’s gay as well. Only they don’t know about each other. Both their mothers are being pushy for them to find a girl to settle down with, setting them up and sending them to socials. When The Lone Cowboy meets Garrett one night after his performance, I thought things would spice up between them.

Unfortunately, their relationship/friendship was as flat as their chemistry. After they finally come out to each other they start sleeping together/dating. Only I found that to be a matter of convenience, rather than lust and chemistry. There was NO sexual tension AT ALL! What’s a book without sexual tension? In my opinion, a romance novel should always have sexual tension or chemistry, or it’s a complete and utter failure.

Besides, I didn’t get the feeling that they were close friends to start with. I got the feeling they knew each other, but there was nothing in their interactions that made me think they were best friends when they were little and used to hang out a lot. These boys had history, but it wasn’t put to good use.

Both Garrett and Aubrey were flat characters. There was nothing about either of them that stood out to me. There was no character development and I couldn’t really connect with them in any way.

Aside from that, Aubrey’s mother’s constant nosiness annoyed me. Aubrey is a grown man who’s working his ass off (pun intended, heh!) to save her home, and she won’t quit pushing him into situations he doesn’t want to be in. Aubrey needed to pull up his big boy breeches and tell her to fuck off instead of letting her dictate his life.

Aubrey and Garrett’s coming out was rather uneventful. There was no major drama or anyone screaming bloody murder, and the conflict is resolved too easy considering where they live.

This book wasn’t horrible or anything like that, but it certainly wasn’t memorable. If you like cowboy books you might enjoy this more than I did, so give it a try.

Tams Review: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Aubrey Klein moonlights as an exotic dancer at a strip club in Dallas as a means to an end. His mother does love her credit cards and his father is getting up there in years, so it’s up to Aubrey to make sure his family ranch doesn’t sink under a mountain of debt. His trips to Dallas afford Aubrey an opportunity to be himself though, and then the one guy that could destroy it all shows up at the club and leaves Aubrey questioning everything.

Aubrey and Garrett Lamston grew up together, played in the creek when they were kids and worked their family’s ranches. Each of them tried college, but it didn’t work out. The life they live is all they’ve known and where they are most comfortable. They share a secret as well, both certain that if they came out to their family they would be rejected. But when Garrett sees Aubrey in Dallas it sets a chain of events in motion that change both their lives forever.

Aubrey is essentially living three lives… the son that refuses to let his family ranch drown, refuses to let his parents down. The Lone Rancher that hides behind a mask to make the money he needs to keep the ranch afloat. And then there is the man that he is in love with his child hood friend; sweet, gentle and loving Aubrey is finding it very hard to juggle these three lives.

I felt at home while I was reading this book, with the scenery and images that played in the background. Perhaps because I’m from Texas, Dallas Ft. Worth actually, and I’m pretty sure I know exactly which club The Lone Rancher would be dancing in if he weren’t a fictional character. The life on the ranch, the way that Aubrey and Garrett were almost forced to live their lives, hiding who they really were for fear of the ramifications; it all rang very true for me. I was able to visualize the life Grey painted for these two men.

There was a spur in my saddle though; I didn’t understand why Aubrey was so ashamed of what he was doing. Yes he deliberately passed up several chances to be honest with Garrett and save himself some heartache, but when he was talking to his parents and Garrett after the cat was out of the bag, he came across as mortified and immensely ashamed. I think that were he sleeping around or living a shady double life, maybe, but he was achieving his goal to financially support his parents and the ranch without doing anything illegal. I guess I wish he hadn’t been so hard on himself. And then when his mother saw that Aubrey had paid off all her credit cards and the mortgage, she was ready to charge them right back up. I wanted to smack her. I was very impressed when his dad agreed with him in that situation.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. There was just a touch of angst, the inner struggle that Aubrey and Garrett had to deal with individually, before realizing they could better deal with it together. Love and romance, sexy men in wranglers wearing hats, and riding horses, and each other. And let me just say, you haven’t lived until you’ve made out in a truck bed on a dark dirt road in backwoods Texas, lying on a blanket all naked and sweaty, staring up at the stars. I’m just sayin…

He’s sure it’s all going to go horribly wrong, and when Chris’s work colleague figures them out and becomes violent, he’s almost proven right. Review: Working the streets isn’t ideal but it gets Mike and his friends from day-to-day. But when he meets Chris all bets are off. Chris is a well to do entrepreneur that takes in Mike as his rent boy. Things start to become a bit blurred between them as something sexy develops. It is a matter of time before they make a move on each other.

This is one of those great stories that goes from great to greater. The author takes the time to surround you in the world without overdoing it. And continues to show you that fun can lead to some thing a little hotter and a lot more adventurous.

Trembling on the floor, pressed beneath a row of seats in a dark theater, college freshman Jason Tripp listens to the terrifying sound of gunshots, as an unknown shooter moves methodically through the theater, randomly murdering men, women, and children attending a student performance of Hamlet. Junior Liam Norcross drapes his massive body on top of Jason, sheltering the younger man from the deathly hail of bullets, risking his life willingly and maybe even eagerly.

As a result of the shared horror, an extraordinary bond forms between the two young men, which causes discomfort for family and friends, as well as for Jason and Liam, themselves. And added to the challenge of two previously “straight” men falling into a same-sex love, are the complications that arise from the abundance of secrets Liam holds with regard to a past family tragedy. The fledgling passion between the men seems bound to fade away into the darkness from which it emerged.

Jason, however, is inexplicably called to rescue his hero in return, by delving into Liam’s shady past and uncovering the mystery that compels the older man to act as the college town’s selfless savior.

The Art of Hero Worship takes the reader on a voyage from the dark and chilling chaos that accompanies a mass shooting to the thrill of an unexpected and sensual romance.

Review: When I first saw this series out I knew I wanted a chance to read it. I must admit though that I wished the story had been longer with more to it because it can get a bit confusing. However I got to tell you that this was one fascinating story.

When scientists decide to start messing around with DNA, that is the time they need to be shot. The screw around created mixed DNA, more than just shifter and human. They created a human with two shifter DNA strands. In this story you will get to see Mason. Mason is human, half gorilla and half shark which are not the best parts to have.

When Brennan and another tech find out that Mason and his friends are going to be put down they go out of their way to help them. It seems Brennan is Mason’s mate.

You can’t really go into detail like you want when writing a review because of the potential of giving the story away. It is a fun little story with some heat in it that makes it even better.

I had a blast reading it and can’t wait to read book two.

Review: Each one of these amazing stories is told by a different author. I would recommend reading book one first though otherwise you might get a bit lost. This story was told by Lily Harlem and I have to say that she has a gift. This story caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end.

Scientists have been experimenting on humans and shifters but now they have gone too far. They managed to create humans who have two different types of shifters in them. When the lab techs realized that the shifters were to be put down, they did what they could to rescue them. It seems that the lab techs are somehow connected to the shifters.

Joey has had the hardest time. Not only is he a kangaroo and gorilla, but he is not even on the same continent that he should have been. All he wants to do is to find a home. A home with a gorgeous mate. I don’t think he was expecting twins to be his home.

This was one of the series that I was attracted to even before it came out. I was gifted with a look at the idea and knew that I had to read them. I was glad to have had the chance. It was a fun read and I would recommend it.

Review: I have only read one or two books by this author and I must say that she has a blare about her stories. Although I am not one for teenagers or even college students in stories because they just don’t seem to come off the way many stories should. I also don’t like characters who are not gay then all of a sudden they are having sexual relations. It just doesn’t come off like what would happen in real life so for me this story was a mixture of many feelings.

Jason is watching a play with his girlfriend when some nut case student starts shooting. Jason was saved by Liam but his girlfriend didn’t make it. They form a bond that strengthens through time but Jason is still having a bit of troubles with it all. He had never had any plans or ideas of being with another guy but Liam is his hero.

Liam has such a horrible past and it leads him into his hero ways. He feels like he is making up for past mistakes by saving Jason. However he also has feelings growing for Jason and he wants to follow through with it all. The problem is he keeps trying to save others and it makes things difficult for them both.

Now with this Liam comes off more as a stalker and kind of creepy in a way. Whereas Jason comes off a bit of a wimp and off. Now the shooting was horrible and Mia wrote it with such a perfect direction that one would feel like they were right there. It was amazing the way it came off. I also loved how the guys dealt with the backlash of negative feelings from friends and family. Other than my problems with it the story was well written and fully developed. It was a good story and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

It caught my attention from the start but unfortunately my attention wavered quite a bit so for me it wasn’t a win for me. I would like to say though that you can tell right off the bat that this author put her heart into her story and I would definitely recommend it.

However it really wasn’t for me.

Review: Each one of these amazing stories is told by a different author. I would recommend reading book one first though otherwise you might get a bit lost. This story was told by Jambrea Jo Jones and I have to say she is an amazing story teller. This story caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end.

Scientists have been experimenting on humans and shifters but now they have gone too far. They managed to create humans who have two different types of shifters in them. When the lab tech’s realized that the shifters were to be put down, they did what they could to rescue them. It seems that the lab techs are somehow connected to the shifters.

George is human with gorilla and elephant genes in him. His body is gorilla and his head is elephant. He is the worrier of the group and hates change. He knew if he had not left the compound he would have died, but he had not wanted change. That is until he meets Thorne. Thorne is a wolf shifter so he knows what it is like to be a shifter. Boy does he have his work cut out for him showing and convincing George that it will be good.

I had a blast reading this and look forward to reading book three. This was one of the series that I was attracted to even before it came out. I was gifted with a look at the idea and knew that I had to read them. I was glad to have had the chance.

It was a fun read and I would recommend it.

Review: This is the first book in Toy Soldiers and boy is it intense.

Wow what a brutal, intense, dark story. Gideon is in training to become a star commander. But unfortunately he doesn’t understand what all that it entails until the end.

My draw dropped open quite a bit during this riveting story. I couldn’t believe what Gideon was made to endure and suffer through. A couple of times my anger got the better of me and I found myself cussing out his captors.

But the biggest bombshell came at the end. If I were Gideon I would have been seriously pissed off at both myself and the individuals involved. With that being said I did enjoy this book even though a lot at the beginning had me cringing. Full of tense situations that test the limits on a personal level.

I found Gideon to be strong throughout his ordeal though he did seem on the brink of breaking which was understandable. Drago’s character was domineering yet brutal which made sense considering he was a dragon.

The whole book was amazing if not dark. I would advise Gideon to read waivers closely in the future before signing them blindly.

Review: I have to say the book What the Water Gave Me seemed more like someone thinking aloud as to what they knew about the events and what they could have done different but extremely short. It seemed like there should have been more to the story.

Well written and emotional.

Christmas Kitsch by Amy Lane ~ Audiobook

Blurb: Sometimes the best thing you can get for Christmas is knowing what you really want.

Rusty Baker is a blond, rich, entitled football player in a high school full of them – just the type of oblivious jock all the bullied kids hate. And he might have stayed that way except he develops a friendship with out-and-proud Oliver Campbell from the wrong side of the tracks. Rusty thinks the friendship is just pity – Oliver is very bright, and Rusty is very not – but then Oliver kisses him good-bye when Rusty leaves for college, and Rusty is forced to rethink everything he knows about himself.

But even Rusty’s newfound awareness can’t help him survive a semester at Berkeley. He returns home for Thanksgiving break clinging to the one thing he knows to be true: Oliver Campbell is the best thing that’s ever happened to him.

Rusty’s parents disagree, and Rusty finds himself homeless for the holidays. Oliver may not have much money, but he’s got something Rusty has never known: true family.

With their help and Oliver’s love, Rusty comes to realize that he may have failed college, but he’ll pass real life with flying rainbow colors.

Review: I had not had the chance to read this story so when I was given the audible I wasn’t sure what to expect from it. I have never really been into teenagers finding love so it was a bit different to me. However I realized that Christmas Kitsch is probably one of my favorite love stories from this side. I also never realized how much I want to just knock some sense into Rusty’s parents.

Nick brought these boys and their families alive for me and I was fascinated by it. He gave them each a distinctive tone that you can tell who each character is and I loved it. It made me want to listen to it more than just once and that was a big hit for me. It was told with a flair that had me wanting more. He made Rusty’s voice perfect. You can feel everything Rusty is feeling while telling his story.

Rusty is a sweet kid who wasn’t like many other rich kids you come across. He might be spoiled in some ways but it didn’t change him into one of those types. He definitely has a lot of heart but he doesn’t really come off as brainless as he thinks. He might just be a bit slow picking up some things. When Oliver starts school he takes him under his wing and helps him. As Oliver is helping him with his school work.

When he realizes that there is more than just friendship he is about shocked. Here he was sleeping with girls and he is attracted to Oliver. One kiss right before Thanksgivings gets him kicked out of his home. Oliver’s family takes him in and shows him how a family should be.

Oliver is a cute little Hispanic boy who is very out and proud. He shows up at school and takes one look at Rusty. These two hit it off, even when the homophobic asshats around them are well asses. These two start a friendship that is strong and turns into something more. Rusty’s only support from his family is his little sister, whereas Oliver’s family is very warm and friendly. I love how you can see the difference and wish that it was more out in the world. Nick definitely did a number with this story. He made me fall in love even more.

I think my favorite moment for this story was their first kiss. So sweet and tender, Rusty is confused but turned on. He doesn’t react like one would think from a guy who didn’t know he liked other guys. He is definitely Oliver’s. The second would be how Oliver and his father were going to come down and kidnap Rusty when Rusty wasn’t doing well at school. It showed me another side to a parent who stands by their family.

I want Oliver’s’ family that is for sure. The story was perfectly pitched although I wish it was told a bit faster for me. I want to get to the sexy parts, so that was just me. It had the right amount of feelings in it that made it more entertaining. The story itself was perfect and there was so much detail that it had me feeling like I was right there with them. Although I did look a bit strange with my pissed off look about Rusty’s parents.

This was the perfect Christmas story and I look forward to not only reading more by this author but listening to her stories.

I would definitely recommend this book to others. It was a hit with me.

Review: Each one of these amazing stories is told by a different author. This one was written by Lavinia Lewis, who just happens to be one of my favorite authors. She has a way of telling any story so that it will catch your attention from the start. My only issues with it are the fact that it is way too short for me to get more than just a taste.

Scientists have been experimenting on humans and shifters, but now they have gone too far. They managed to create humans who have two different types of shifters in them. Review: This was the first story that I had read by this author and had been fascinated when I first read it, now I am the proud owner of all her stories and continue to look for more. So when I found out that this series was going to be put on audio I knew I wanted them. There are some of the normal problems with this story but for me it didn’t take away from my experience at all.

I can tell you that I have listened to this probably at least a dozen or so times. I must say that Darcy is a great narrator but the first time I heard the voice I was not sure. However once I got over the first thought my second thought was I absolutely loved the way Darcy brought the characters to life for me. Made me feel like I was in the room right there with them.

A few years ago Cade started Rescue for Hire and he picked the perfect men for the job. He is the alpha dominate of the group and you can tell just by looking at him that he is one tough man. His heart however is bigger and you can feel it when he sees Bret in the water. You can feel each time he looks at his sweet little man and you can tell the connection is strong with these two.

I absolutely love Bret. He is a quirky little man who is going to keep Bear on his toes that is for sure. He has this mischievous side to him that gets him into trouble, but damn it is worth it. He had been kept prisoner by a crazy man and his boyfriend, it was only till a flood happened that he had no way out.

Being rescued by a sexy bear of a man is a big plus for Bret. He is going to need the big bear because someone is out to get Bret. It will take the whole team to rescue Bret out of this one and you can definitely hear Cade’s tone in this story. He will do everything to get his man back.

I absolutely loved reading this and hearing it was ten times better. I go home and wish that I had it on throughout the night. It also makes me want to start on book two. I loved the way Bellann gives me a story that shows the alpha’s true heart. They love with passion and heat, yet they will put those down who hurt their men. This has been one of my favorite stories from all time.

I loved it and look forward to starting the next story. My attention was captured from the start and kept till the very end. It also gave me everything I could possibly want in a story. Danger, excitement, suspense, passion, fire and hot sex are just a start to what you will get in this story. Although I do wish it was longer than just over two hours. It leaves me wanting more.

I would definitely recommend listening to this audiobook.

Rubble and Wreckage by Rodd Clark

51-3d3cWwYL._SX331_BO1,204,203,200_Title: Rubble and Wreckage
Series: Gabriel Church Tales, #1
Author: Rodd Clark
Genre: Crime Thriller
Length: 315 pages
Publisher: Driven Press (30 Jan 2015)
Heat Level: Low
Heart Rating: ♥♥♥2.5 Hearts
Blurb: Gabriel Church knows you can’t take a life without first understanding just how feeble life is, how tentative and weak it stands alone. If you desire murder, you hold a life in your hand. Whether you release it to grant life or grip tighter to end it, it is at your command and discretion.

Gabriel is a serial killer with a story he wants told.

Christian Maxwell studied abnormal psychology in college but chose instead to focus on a career in writing. His background comes in handy when he thinks of writing about a serial killer. He can’t think of anyone more qualified to write the story of Gabriel Lee Church, and do so in the murderer’s own words. It’s been done before, but never with a killer who has yet to be captured or convicted.

There was never anything more than a gentleman’s understanding between the two men that Christian would record Gabriel’s life story. The killer did not ask for his complicity in any crimes, nor did he ever ask for his silence. Christian’s interest in the man, though, is fast becoming something more than academic. When the writer and his subject become unexpected friends and then lovers, the question remains: What is Gabriel’s endgame . . . and why does he want his story told?

Review: Okay, this is a complicated one for me. I’ve not read anything by Rodd Clark before and to be totally honest, I’m not entirely sure if I am willing to read more (but there is a sequel to this book which I would like to give a chance despite my thoughts on this book).

I was interested when I read the blurb, though I already had a couple of reservations. But immediately I was reminded of the Dexter books by Jeff Lindsay (and yes, the TV series) and I have to admit that having read the entire Dexter series did actually colour my thoughts and reactions of this story, although Gabe is definitely no anti-hero like Dexter. The mention of Florida on the first page definitely helped me cement the connection in my mind.

Things are pretty straight forward when you read the blurb. Gabe is a killer – one that isn’t in jail – and he is being interviewed by writer, Christian. Christian wants to get into the mind of a killer and wants to know what makes Gabe tick. It is a very promising start that, unfortunately, doesn’t hold for me.

The fact that Gabe isn’t in jail is the first stumbling block for me. How did Christian know to track him down? Why didn’t he go to the police, especially with Gabe’s nonchalant claim that he has killed 40 people? Seriously, dude, does the words shallow bush grave mean anything to you? What makes you think you aren’t going to be the next victim?

At first this made me wonder that Christian is also a sociopathic serial killer, or at least a sociopath of some description. Yes, Christian is socially awkward and so far in the closet it isn’t funny, but I do like to think that isn’t an indication for Christian to be a sociopath.

This also leads me to the next stumbling block(s), which brings up my connection to Dexter once more. How does one expect a relationship with a sociopath to go? A sociopath has no empathy or no social cues, but it evident that Gabe definitely draws Christian into his web. I think it’s also clear at this point that I didn’t really connect or like Christian either, which we will call the third stumbling block.

Finally, I am going to add what I consider to be the fourth and fifth stumbling blocks of this story. For readers of MM books that don’t like girly bits in their books (with some rather vivid sex scenes which are more detailed than the MM sex scenes), you may want to avoid this. There is also cheating involved. Yes, I know we have a sociopath on our hands here, but still, I’m not happy about it. Also, the twisted (and very predictable way) Gabe deals with things should set off alarm bells in Christian’s utterly besotted mind.

The writing style also didn’t overly appeal to me. I got irritated at the repeated description of Christian as “the writer”. I know he’s a writer, it felt a bit silly because we know Christian so there was no reason to describe him as though he isn’t a main character that we don’t already know.
