The Zozobra Incident

by

Don Travis

B. J. Vinson is a former Marine and ex-Albuquerque PD detective turned confidential investigator. Against his better judgment, BJ agrees to find the gay gigolo who was responsible for his breakup with prominent Albuquerque lawyer Del Dahlman and recover some racy photographs from the handsome bastard. The assignment should be fast and simple.

But it quickly becomes clear the hustler isn’t the one making the anonymous demands, and things turn deadly with a high-profile murder at the burning of Zozobra on the first night of the Santa Fe Fiesta. BJ’s search takes him through virtually every stratum of Albuquerque and Santa Fe society, both straight and gay. Before it is over, BJ is uncertain whether Paul Barton, the young man quickly insinuating himself in BJ’s life, is friend or foe. But he knows he’s stepped into something much more serious than a modest blackmail scheme. With Paul and BJ next on the killer’s list, BJ must find a way to put a stop to the death threats once and for all.

Review: Dylan, a reporter, has had a crush on Matthias since meeting him at college. Ten years of hurt at the rejection by Matthias has made him bound and determined to get to the bottom of the secretive Matthias.

Matthias is a ruthless business man all about taking money from the rich with his hypnosis and magnetism. He stops at nothing to gain his wealth. Jace, a rock star, became too clingy so Matthias had him removed elsewhere. Matthias was too pretty for his own good and knew it. He used his looks to his advantage and slept with anyone he wanted.

When Matthias invites Dylan to his resort in order to destroy him things do not go as planned. He is attracted to him and so begins Dylan’s mission to weave through the complex Matthias to see what makes him tick.  I liked this story much better than the first in the series. However it is a bit slow at times and as a result had to and starts several times so it did not hold my interest straight through like most books do.

I would have liked a better balance to the story as opposed to the action, etc taking place near the end. Most of the book is drama driven and while that in itself is not bad I wanted more. Interesting and good read.

Review: This book is actually two different series that are combined into Spy’s vs Spooks series.  I read the first four books when they came out and had to jump at getting my hands on this book.

They are action packed stories with sexy men who know how to kill.  They catch my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end.  I love how fully developed that these stories and the details have been amazing.  It is like you know each character and the worlds that they live in.  This author soon became a favorite of mine and will continue to be so.

tinnean-01-the-start-of-a-beautiful-friendship-coverThe Start of a Beautiful Friendship ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

It’s 1996, and Mark Vincent, senior special agent of the Washington Bureau of Intelligence and Security, has been assigned the task of assassinating the head of a terrorist organization in Europe. When the mission goes south and he’s ordered to take a vacation, he reluctantly goes to Paris, where, in a little bar called Le Petit Homme, he sees a man who intrigues him. However, like ships passing in the night, they go their separate ways, only to meet again the following morning, and over breakfast, the man introduces himself as Louis.

Is it too much of a coincidence? Perhaps, perhaps not, but Mark is intrigued and, unable to resist, he gives his name as Rick. A comment of Louis’s leads Mark to assume Louis hustles for a living, so Mark decides to “rent” him for the week. Unbeknownst to Mark, Louis has his own reasons for going along with the charade, which leads to… the start of a beautiful friendship.

This story was short and sweet.  Two sexy men working different sides, meeting up, sparks flying and my heart is gone.  Mark lost a good friend and is trying to just deal with his father being ill.  Then he meets a man who sparks his interest at the bar but the man chooses someone else.  Then fate happens and he meets up with him again.

Louis is playing the part of rent boy, and they decided to hook up for the night. However that one night, turn into a hot and sexy week. I loved the twist that his story had and it kept me on the edge of my seat from the start.  I can’t wait to start reading the next book.

tinnean-02-houseboat-on-the-nile-coverHouseboat on the Nile ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Mark Vincent is WBIS—Washington Bureau of Intelligence and Security. Quinton Mann is staunchly CIA. Mark thinks the CIA is full of dilettantes who leave him and the rest of the WBIS to clean up their messes. Quinn thinks most WBIS agents are sociopathic loose cannons. So they don’t exactly get along.

Of course, just because they don’t like each other doesn’t mean they can’t play mind games on each other. Or sleep together. But when an explosion at Mark’s apartment sends Quinn to the morgue to ID a body, he has to re-evaluate his position on denial.

Two sexy men working for different agencies.  Mark is WBIS and Quin is CIA so you can imagine the sparks flying with these two.  He is one smart cookie and tough to boot, he doesn’t let anyone get the better of him. Although I could do without the politics in the beginning, it was a bit dry to me.  They go back and forth with each other, which is normal between people who are really falling in love.  The chemistry was off the charts with these two.

The only other problem I had with this was the shifting POV’s going on.  It drove me nuts.  The mind games these two played beat that out of the water though.  I enjoyed reading this and look forward to the next book.

tinnean-03-not-my-spook-coverNot My Spook! ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Highly ranked CIA officer Quinton Mann finds himself in a relationship with Mark Vincent-for exactly five days. At that point, Mark uses the excuse of going to Massachusetts for his mother’s funeral to end it. But Quinn’s a spook, and you can’t fake a faker.

Mark fears he’s getting in too deep with Quinn, hence the disappearing act. Then Quinn does something unexpected, something nobody has ever done before: he comes after Mark. Maybe being in a relationship with Quinn isn’t such a bad idea. In the meantime, something strange is going on in the intelligence community worldwide. When Quinn disappears while investigating a rogue antiterrorist organization, Mark makes up his mind. Quinn might be a spook, but he’s Mark’s spook, damn it-and once he gets Quinn home, he intends to keep him. He just has to find him first.

These stories just keep getting better and better.  These guys are so damn hot and just about make me swoon.  I love how Marc is with Quinn, and how he tries so hard to keep that part of him hidden and safe. He just doesn’t seem to know it yet, but his heart is caught for sure.

Although the shifting POV was still driving me nuts.  Overall this is one fantastic story and I can guarantee that it is going to keep on giving me a fascinating read. I can’t wait to start reading the next book.

tinnean-04-forever-coverForever ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Lately, life is both sweet and sour for intelligence operatives Mark Vincent and Quinton Mann. The sweet is they’re settling into a relationship; Mark has found a condo in Alexandria with the help of Quinn’s mother, Portia; and Mark and Quinn are looking forward to spending the holidays in the Caribbean.

As for the sour, something shadier than usual is going on at Langley. Useless missions and sleepless nights are leaving Quinn exhausted, and then Portia’s life is threatened. When Quinn discovers the accident was no accident and the egomaniacal Senator Wexler is involved, he’s out for blood.

To this point, Mark has stayed out of Quinn’s CIA business. But hurting Quinn and those he loves isn’t on the table, so at Mark’s instigation, they set out together to deal with Wexler. The only catch: it’s the first time Quinn will see Mark at his deadly best, and Mark isn’t sure how his lover will react.

The connection between each book has rocked my world.  They flow so perfect that you can’t help but to want to read it more than once.  The guys have slowly figured out that they are supposed to be with each other and I get a kick out of them every time.  I have to admit that Mark is the harder character to get a read on sometimes, but you can tell that it is all a facade.  They are so in love that it is what one would want in their lives.

I enjoy the way they react to each other and the heat that they have.  I have to admit that this one was the best in my opinion.  I always did love the little twists that there seems to be in all her stories.  However I really loved the whole series so far and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.  Now the ending was just a bit off to me though, so I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Fifteen-year-old Theo Bascopolis longs for the man of his dreams. But his dreams are dashed when his conservative Greek father discovers Theo is gay and throws him out. Hopeless, he falls in with Fast Franky, a pimp who seduces Theo with the nickname “Sweetcheeks,” but abuses him and wants Theo to hustle. A bloody fight with Franky forces Sweetcheeks to run. Winding up in Washington, DC, he meets a group of rent boys who take care of each other. While he may not have the man of his dreams, Theo finally has a home and family of his own making.

When the boys take in mysterious tenant Mark Vincent, he seems a solid protector, until one of Sweetcheeks’s boys suffers a savage beating in his name. Vincent visits the boy in the hospital and introduces his equally enigmatic trainee, William Matheson. The instant attraction blindsides Sweetcheeks. In spite of knowing love isn’t for rent boys, Sweetcheeks hopes Matheson sees beyond the body he’s offered to so many. But Matheson has secrets of his own, and both will have to tear down their walls to find enduring love.

Now this one had me in tears, I have to admit that.  That boy went through so much pain and ended helping his friends.  He survived his father kicking him out, a pimp abusing him and living on the streets.  He finds himself with another group of boys that take care of each other.  Then they take in the strange guy who just might be the best protector ever.   However life on the street is a nasty one, especially when one of the boys gets hurt.  Mark brings in someone to help them out.  However Theo slowly falls for Will.  The attraction is off the charts.

Now I have to say that I was glad when I started reading this that Theo didn’t stay a boy and grew up to be a great man.  And that Will is his first true love, but I do hope that it is his only one.  These two are hot.  Now the romance part didn’t really happen till close to the ending.  Will was a bit of a mystery to me.  I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.

tinnean-06-foolish-me-coverFoolish Me ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Giving up a life as rent boy Sweetcheeks for his lover, William Matheson, was an easy decision for Theo Bascopolis. But years of selling his body and the lingering pain from being thrown out by his father leave Theo worried that Wills, who’s always had his family’s acceptance, can’t truly love him. Life has taught him love isn’t for rent boys, and he’s having a hard time tearing down the walls he built around his emotions and trusting that Wills sees beyond his past.

Despite Will’s reassurances, he leaves for an extended assignment with no contact, giving Theo too much time to think about the future. A message arrives, and as far as Theo is concerned, it proves him right. Maybe it’s too late to protect his heart, but he’s not going to hang around waiting for Matheson to stomp all over it. Theo runs, breaking all ties to his former lover.

When Wills returns to an empty apartment and no sign of his lover, he wonders whether Theo really wants to be found and if they are meant to be together after all. But they’ve been through too much, and Wills always gets his man.

Wow this was action packed and my heart was in my throat.  Theo thinks that his past will mean that Will will never truly stick around.  The problem was when Will went on an assignment Theo ran to keep his own heart safe.  Too bad Will goes after him.  He is going to bring his heart right back to him.

Theo is probably my favorite character in all of these books.  He went through so much and is a strong man in the end.  Although Will going to find him was damn hot.  Out of this whole book this is my favorite of them all.  It was an fun read and I look forward to reading more by this author.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
Damn these guys just keep getting hotter and hotter.  The stories are the best and they continue to get better and better.   This was one of the best action packed books that I have come across.  You don’t just get one story but six amazing books. The characters caught my heart and just didn’t let go.  I love the heart that was put into this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the next story.  I enjoyed reading it and would definitely recommend it.

Review: Damn this was just as good as book three. Although I will still say that I don’t see the point in having the characters doing drugs, it just brought it down for me. This story is book four in this series and I must say that you should read them in order.  It would give you a back ground into these guys. Although for me I started with book three, because the first two books are just in print which sucks.

It has been three years since Colin took off, leaving Frank and Scotty alone. Scotty missed him but things were getting better. That is until Doc committed suicide, people were dying, a missing stone that was linked to extreme evil and Scotty’s life is about to get more intense. Frank was gone learning how to be a wrestler and he was left alone to deal with life. Then a shock happens, he walks in to his family home and can you believe, there is Colin sitting as he pleased.

Now there are parts of the story I absolutely love but I still hate the damn book. I can’t believe Greg would write a story and then break your heart in the end. Now once you get into the story let’s just say the mystery starts right off the bat and will keep you involved the whole way there. There are so many damn twists to this story that it will give you a blasted headache just trying to figure them out. Not to mention laughing your ass at some parts, for example the Ninja Lesbian’s. Frank’s reaction to Colin being back, I think there would have been just a bit more bloodshed. Although Frank’s admission might get him his own ass kicked by Scotty.

Now for me I love a good romance, but in these stories the romance is a bit left out which actually worked for these stories. The mystery itself was pretty cool but did have a few problems with it. Although keeping the characters straight was my main problem. Other than that the story rocked.

If you like a very action packed story, with murder, missing religious relic, danger, excitement and our very own sexy trio, then this is for you. Although I have to say that I wished the author would let our Colin stay home with the guys, their hearts break every time he leaves and quite frankly I think it brought the book down in points for me. However that is just me. I would definitely recommend this story.

Review:  The first thing I am going to say is you really need to read these books in order. However the first two are not ebooks so I had to start with book three. This is my first time reading something from this author, so I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I picked them because of their titles and figured what the hell.

The first problem came with the fact that you have three sexy men who are together, and they can still sleep around. That is a big no in my book which brought it down for me.  The second was the drug use and the fact that one of the guys is a federal agent, so that brought the story down even further for me. I don’t do cheating, even if it is allowed and absolutely no drugs.  So here I am thinking this was not a good idea for me. However the story was very detailed and very authentic sounding. It was also unique and entertaining for me.

I was once told that when a story makes you so damn angry that you want to just smack the author, then it is one hell of a story.  So Greg if you’re reading this, I am going to smack you one of these days. Scotty is an ex go-go dancer, fitness teacher who is now one hell of a private eye.  It was what got the attention of two sexy men.  Frank is a federal agent and Colin was masade. This story is full of twists and turns that will drive you absolutely out of your mind.

Now as I said before I don’t like drugs in my story however it is what gives this story the twist.  It seems that Scotty gets his drugs from Misha, who isn’t actually Misha. Misha is married to a family friend, but then again there is another twist. So when Scotty’s dealer gets killed, it leads our guys into a very strange family affair. Scotty was the last one to see him, so you can guess where that leads. Then Frank disappears which sends him into a spin, then Colin disappears and boom there is another twist.

It seems Scotty has a gift that warns him of danger; however it doesn’t keep him out of trouble. He is now in the middle of a big ass mess. Like I said the ending made me hate this story in such a way that it rated pretty damn high. If Greg’s stories are all like this then I am pretty sure that I will have to go out and get them. Although I won’t be able to read the first two unless they are turned into e-books, but it made me miss just a bit more into their history.

It is an action pact story, with murder, drugs and family secrets coming out. The sex, what there is was pretty damn good. Although I was glad for it in a way, there is more mystery there then sex. Over all the story was pretty damn good and I can’t wait to see what the next book has going on. It is one that I would recommend to all.

Blurb: Gus Goodwin witnesses a young man acting strangely at his occult shop—and a day later the same youth is found brutally murdered at a secluded Radical Faerie sanctuary in the mountains. Gus and his private detective boyfriend, Niall Valentine, once again find themselves in the middle of a murder mystery.

First to cross their path is Professor Alex Kittridge, Gus’s ex-boyfriend. Then into the picture stumbles Autumnsong, the biggest enigma they’ve ever encountered, to complicate the already confusing case. As Gus and Niall try to decipher the meaning of the cryptic poems left at the murder scenes, their pasts not yet laid to rest put a strain on their relationship.

Gus and Niall must uncover a slew of secrets within a spiritual group of queer social rebels before the vile killer strikes again—or the investigation could very well end up being their last.

Review: This story is part of a series and is best read in order.

Gus is suspicious of a young man in his shop; he puts it out of his mind though when the young man buys a necklace until he later receives the same necklace covered in blood. Then Gus and Niall find themselves in the middle of another murder investigation involving a spiritual religion, the Radical Faeries. Gus and Niall with the aid of Virgil Hughes (homicide detective) search out clues to the murderer’s identity before they strikes again.

This story is a great addition to the Wheel Mysteries series, we get the chance to see Gus and Niall again as their relationship grows from strength to strength and they investigate another puzzling pagan religion connected murder.

As they move forward to discover why the young man was murdered they find a connection to Autumnsong, who we’ve met in previous stories, and Autumnsong knows more than he is saying. We also meet new characters who bring some tension to Gus and Niall’s relationship and we are introduced to the religion Radical Faeries… I have to say that I enjoy discovering new-to-me pagan type religions that Susan Laine includes in her books.

The storyline is brilliant, we are led on a merry dance as the guys dig into this investigation and the reason for the murders is just so senseless that we shake our heads at the unjustness of it all. We discover that there’s a connection to all the books and the Cabal are dead centre in the middle of it all, just what are Gus and Niall going to face in the future?

I do have to hold my hands up and admit that over the series Gus has actually grown on me and I’ve come to cherish him as much as I’ve always cherished Niall, he can still be a pain in the arse with his stubborn ‘I know best’ attitude and he’s again faced with great danger after running headlong into a situation where he doesn’t stop to think about the consequences, and Niall and Gus have their first big fall out as Niall takes Gus to task. *whispers ’Go Niall, tell him like it is’*

I recommend this to those who love mysteries and suspense, great characters, a dash of danger, an interesting investigation and a very happy ending.

(The Warfield Hotel Mysteries 02)
by

C.J. Baty

Justin Warfield ran away to Italy to put the events of last summer and a certain dark-haired private eye behind him, to no avail. If anything, he can’t help but rehash what happened over and over. When he finally returns to South Carolina, the hotel he runs with his brother has suffered a series of incidents that are starting to look less accidental after a death threat is received.

Not satisfied that Moses Lee and his local police will find the culprit, Peter Warfield calls in the services of his good friend Marcus Drummond to help. Marcus is torn. He wants to help his friend, but he also knows that if Justin has moved on after their failed flirtation last summer, he will be devastated.

Tensions mount as danger seems to follow them at every turn, stalking them as they get closer to solving the mystery of who is behind the sabotage of the hotel.

Blurb: Getting calls from the dead in the middle of the night isn’t Oliver’s idea of fun…

Oliver gets calls from the dead, imploring him to help them find their killers. He’s heard them since he was a child and now assists the police in their investigations. He works closely with Detective Langham—and has steadily fallen more in love with him every day of the six months he’s known him. But does Langham feel the same? Is Langham even gay?

When Oliver answers the call of a dead woman, he finds himself standing in a remote field, gazing down at her corpse. Someone else is out there with him, though, watching, waiting to cause him harm. After he’s run off the road, Oliver has no choice but to aid Langham in finding her killer—no choice because more people are killed and more people call out to him…he’s unable to ignore their pleas.

As the body count grows and the investigation becomes more complex, Oliver realises that Langham is indeed very gay—and out to make Oliver his.

Review: When I first started reading this, I wasn’t sure I would make it past the first chapter, so I had put the book down for a couple of hours. Kind of like giving my eyes a rest and giving this story a second chance, and let me tell you it worked. I have to say that the cover was kind of creepy and considering this story, it fit.

Oliver knows two things, one is the dead and the other is, he has the hots for the detective he deals with. Oliver has always been able to hear the dead talking to him after they were killed. This is the first time though, that they were talking to him while they were being murdered. This one murder leads him on a difficult task. This one murder is just the start of a gory mass murder. Drugs, torn apart bodies, children with red eyes and demons are just a start with him. However he at least has a good man on his side.

Langham has wanted Oliver from the start, and he is going to show him in more ways than one. Now all they have to do is to find out who is behind the killings before he can show Oliver just how much he wants him. The problem is these murders are even more freaky then he thought. The danger was high and he had plans.

I found myself loving this story more than I thought. I absolutely loved the world this author created and the gift it took to make it this wicked. I was glad that I had given it a second chance and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.

Author: Ashe Barker

Genre: Erotic Romance, Mystery, Suspense

Length: Novel (200 pages)

Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (October 5, 2016)

Blurb: Gideon Maybury enjoys a life of wealth and privilege, not to mention the advantages his position offers him in his career as a merchant banker and his less public life as a high-class, skilled, and very well-paid assassin for Her Majesty’s government. When his brother dies unexpectedly, he becomes the Duke of Westmoreland.

Michael Mathison has hated Gideon since they were at university together. He’s convinced Gideon had a hand in the death of Michael’s college lover, Christopher, and that he had something to do with the death of his own brother. So he gets a job as Gideon’s driver, enabling him to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the elder Maybury sibling. At first his suspicions seem to be confirmed, but clues emerge that suggest all is not as it appears at Maybury Hall.

As the mystery deepens, so does the attraction between the two implacable enemies, as does the feeling that they have met before—under dark and terrible circumstances. Each has reasons not to trust the other, but neither is averse to a bit of kinky play. Gideon and Michael end up owing each other their lives, and it results in consequences neither could have imagined.

Shorty’s Review: ♥♥♥♥ 3.75 Hearts

I have so many mixed emotions about this book at this moment. Gideon had me cringing with his weird sense of fascination with death. I found it horrifying that he would actually kill animals then move on to humans, no details, just short descriptions, to satisfy that curiosity. It was almost like reading the makings of a serial killer, at least that’s how I saw him as.

Michael thinks Gideon had something to with his ex-boyfriends death as well as Gideon’s own brother. It was hard for me to connect with either of these characters as one was a sociopath and the other I did not understand how he could suspect one of murdering two people yet sleep with him.

Gideon is reborn every time he dies as the result of being a mysterious man’s minion. But I believe he already had the murdering instinct well before his first meeting with the man who changed him. Gideon’s character gave me the creeps at his lack of empathy for human life.

Did I hate the book or love it, the answer is neither yes or no because I don’t know. It was well written I will say that.

Pixie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Gideon is a lot of a sociopath, he takes pleasure in pushing the boundaries in all matters including death, and he uses those skills well in his clandestine job for the Government. When someone seems to be out to get him Gideon has no idea who it might be, and it isn’t long before his new driver comes under suspicion especially when Gideon discovers the man isn’t who he says he is.

Michael loathes Gideon with a passion, he truly believes that Gideon got away with murdering his ex-boyfriend and when Gideon’s brother dies Michael isn’t about to let Gideon get away with murder again.

I enjoyed this story and found both character equally as hard to get, I mean Gideon just seems to have no real emotions for anyone or anything, seeming indifferent to anything that isn’t centred on him. Michael is just as hard to get as he loathes Gideon but quickly changes his tune to f**k him, he seems determined to get one over on Gideon but then seems to be quite blasé when he thinks Gideon is a hitman.

The storyline surrounding Gideon and Michael is a really good one, and I thought that their relationship suited them both as they slowly warmed up to each other. I liked seeing them work together and figure out who is after Gideon even as they are adversaries.

We do get a little information on the Order of the Black Knights… and it wasn’t really what I was expecting at all. It’s all shrouded in mystery, a dash of paranormal and being stuck in a recurring cycle of death. Gideon made a deal which he’s bound by, he has to forgive his enemy rather than kill him to break the contract and with each cycle he gets colder and colder becoming numb to his feelings.

I’d recommend this to those who want something different, with a dash of hot sex and adversaries who turn to lovers, oh and a great ending.

In From The Cold

(A Robert Flynn Novel 01)
by

J.T. Rogers

Robert Flynn abandoned a sterling military career when his best friend and fellow soldier, Wesley Pike, died under his command. More than a decade later, Flynn’s quiet life is disturbed by the troubles of a fledgling CIA and Alexander Grant, a flashy agent with a lot to prove. As the space race between the United States and the Soviets heats up and the body count rises, the two men fight to find common ground. Grant knows Flynn believes in the cause, but all Flynn sees is the opportunity to fail someone like he failed Wes. An attack by a Soviet agent spurs Flynn to action and a reluctant association with the agency, and tilts Flynn’s world on its axis with a shocking discovery: Wesley Pike may be alive and operating as a Soviet assassin.

With Grant to bankroll the operation, his superiors looking the other way, and Flynn’s hard-earned peace officially forfeit, Flynn reunites his old team with the singular goal of finding Wes. But they get more than they bargained for—Wes is amnesiac and dangerous, brainwashed into becoming the perfect weapon. Flynn struggles to reach his friend, lead his team, and navigate his charged relationship with Grant—something neither of them expected and aren’t sure how to parse—while coming to grips with his long-buried feelings for Wes.
