by

Sara Codair

Erin has just realized that for the entirety of their life, their family has lied to them. Their Sight has been masked for years, so Erin thought the Pixies and Mermaids were hallucinations. Not only are the supernatural creatures they see daily real, but their grandmother is an Elf, meaning Erin isn’t fully human. On top of that, the dreams Erin thought were nightmares are actually prophecies.

While dealing with the anger they have over all of the lies, they are getting used to their new boyfriend, their boyfriend’s bullying ex, and the fact that they come from a family of Demon Hunters. As Erin struggles through everything weighing on them, they uncover a Demon plot to take over the world.

Erin just wants some time to work through it all on their own terms, but that’s going to have to wait until after they help save the world.

Review: This series is branched off from the Lost Shifters, Wayne County Wolves, Assassin’s Loyalty and Shane’s Chronicles. So I would suggest reading those books first.

Kacey has big problems, one of them is going against Carson. He thought it would be cool to screw around with the coalition, but in the end they were the ones to catch him. With his new friends, he is about to find out more about his old pack.

As usual Stephani Hecht has given us a great read, but there are some problems with the story. Mainly it is misspelled words that should have been caught early on. Other than that it is a fun story that caught my attention from the start. I get a kick out of the kids and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book.

In a matter of weeks, the Sisterhold becomes agitated with worries and war plans. People he trusts—like the wizard Thurlock—frequently can’t be found. His mother seems angry, especially with Lucky. Even Han Shieth, the warrior uncle he has come to rely on and love above all others, maintains a sullen silence toward him.

Han arrives to help, but he can’t claim invulnerability to the hazards and evils that threaten at every turn. Events launch Lucky, alone, on a quest for he knows not what, but every step brings him closer to his identity and full strength. Self-knowledge, trust, and strength lead to smarter choices, but even his best efforts might not render his world truly safe, now or for the future.

Review: This story picks up where book one leaves off. Lucky is struggling with his new life. He feels he’s the reason for everything going wrong. Everyone else seems to have a place except Lucky. I found Lucky to be a bit self depreciating but that was to be expected given his new circumstances.

War breaks out and his Uncle is sent to where the troops are, leaving Lucky and his bodyguard and love interest, Zhevi behind. Zhevi wants to protect Lucky from all that is dangerous so the two set off on a dangerous mission when L’Aria is kidnapped. This adventure leads to finding out knowledge Lucky needs to come into his own and mature into the man he was destined to become one day.

I loved this story. Lucky was bit melodramatic but I understood why. Being thrown into a new world must have been stressing to say the least. The characters all had a roe to play in creating a wonderful story as the adventure unfolded. I loved everything about it.

Fantastic read.

Blurb: Nightmares, panic attacks, and studying, oh my! Jax’s life hasn’t found its new normal yet. Things have quieted some since the Assassin attack, but Jax and Alvus are still feeling the effects. Sleepless nights can lead to stupid mistakes.
But going to the movies one weekend with his friends requires an armed guard – what is he, the president now? That isn’t a mistake, and if he overlooks the soldiers, it’s an amazing time.
Finding out his family history starts to make Jax question who he really is until a few of the adults around him remind him that it’s not blood that counts. It’s decisions and heart.

Review: Jax is having panic attacks after what his father had done and the assassin’s attacking. He just wants to get back to normal, but then again if it did Alvus wouldn’t be sleeping with him. He had like Alvus but never expected the shifter to like him back. Boy is he in for a surprise.

I actually thought this series would focus on other characters but so far Jax is it. I am not really sure if I like it or not. This is more of a young adult type read with no sex in it. Stephani sure does have a way with her stories that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Even though there is no sex, there are some cuddle sessions and lots of kisses, not to mention danger involved.

I can’t really say I like this story or the series, I seem to have read it out of order and got a bit distracted. It just seems a bit dry and no I am not talking about sexy time. It is just hard to connect with the kids and their story. I guess we will have to wait to see what other future stories will come out with.

Review: High school genius and hockey player Theo is back in this exciting sequel to uncover who is behind the theft to a file that can let the person control the nations energy grid. While in the process of tracking down the file he is enlisted to help the computer science class with their competition.

At the competition he realizes one key factor. The file has been submitted in the competition. It is up to Theo and his team to try and keep everyone safe when things go wrong.

Exciting and addictive this story has an interesting buzz feeling to it. I liked that Teo put himself in danger to help as much as he could. I felt bad that he had to go through certain things at his age.

Wonderfully and spy filled this story had me on the edge of my seat as the story drew to a conclusion. Some questions remained unanswered though and left me feeling like the story was not finished. Other than that I loved it.

Fantastic read.

After being accused of sexual assault by two girls, Jim serves out his sentence in a juvenile detention facility. He’s shocked by the arrest for what he thought was consensual sex, and terrified his own childhood sexual abuse has twisted him into a predator—just like the man who molested him.

Upon release, Jim is no longer welcome at his family home, and with nowhere else to turn, he travels from Massachusetts to Michigan to live with his father’s cousin, Delia. Keeping his head down, Jim works hard at Delia’s art supply shop and prays no one will find out about the awful crime he committed. It’s his chance for a new beginning, but when he makes his first friend in Man-Shik Park, Jim is afraid to let him get too close. But by walling himself off from the support Manny’s offering, Jim might sabotage the opportunities in front of him.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review: I didn’t have the chance to read the four previous books in this series but from what I can tell they can be read as a standalone. Now this is the first book that I have read by this author so I wasn’t too sure what to expect. What caught me was the title, I had assumed that it was going to be humorous but that was not so. It is a story that actually comes close to what many have gone through on both sides.

A teenager starts having sex, they are run by their hormones and feelings. They don’t see the bigger picture at all, but Jim was convicted of a sexual crime by two girls he had been with. It blew him out of the water and made him afraid. After his release, he was abandoned by his family. The only place to go was to a family a few states over. He just didn’t know what to expect there.

Then he meets Manny and is afraid of how he would see him if he knew of his past. He got lucky that Delia and some others were willing to help him recover. You see he had been abused also. However the problem is that Jim did commit the crime, he did his time and is now looking for a new chance. I am not really sure what to think about it to be honest.

I actually felt more for Jim then I did anyone else. Maybe in a way that is not what one is supposed to do, but the fact that he was a teenager and they do make stupid mistakes makes it easier to do so. It has a strong message I suppose which actually did the opposite of what it should have I suppose. I wanted a love story not some story about rape and consequences so it dropped it down in points for me. It was actually a disappointment for me. I was expecting a love story and not what this book represented. After realizing that all of the books have this type of story, I realized that this book was not for me.

It was well written but I didn’t much care for it. I gave it a higher rating because of how well it was but in truth it didn’t do much for me.

Review:  Each book in the Coalition Training Academy collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.  This is a branch off of the Lost Shifter series and is a young adult type of book.  Which means pretty much no sex, because they are kids.

I have read the Lost Shifters series as well as the Wayne County Wolves and Assassin’s Loyalty series, which are branch offs as well.  So when I saw this I knew I had to grab it, however I did not take into consideration that the soldiers were just kids, so there was no juicy sex in it.  However Stephani does not let her reader’s down.

Jax’s parents are not easy to get along with.  They are shifters but his father hates that part of them.  He is a mean asshat who makes Jax’s life hell.  Now it is time to decide a human college or the academy.  He wants to be a soldier and will do everything he can to get it.  He is a surprise though, even as a lion shifter he is on the small side.

As with most kids when they make a decision, whether it is right or wrong, their hearts take on a bit.  He fears that he will let the coalition down because he is small and can’t fight.  However he is going to be very surprised and so will you.

I get a kick out of the characters in these stories; they are entertaining to say the least.  Take Shane, he is small with an angel face, and is a skilled assassin.  Never let size determine you future.  I loved this story although I wished the kids were not kids, but hey cannot get everything we want.  I just hope to hear about them in the future when they find their mates.

I had a lot of fun with this and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book.  I would definitely recommend this story and the previous series as well.

Reviewer: Lisa

Review:  I have read two complete series by this author and have loved each one of them, so it wasn’t a far stretch that this would be any different.  It is not part of a series but a standalone story.  At first it is a bit misleading; what with finding out some of the information half way though the story so I was a bit miffed with that.  However the mystery soon moves into something a bit darker then I normally read.

At first I must admit that I was thinking paranormal type story, but it definitely was not.  Which was a plus for me.  Although I do love paranormals, mermaids were never one of my favorites.  They always gave me the creeps.

So what you get here is a complete mystery with a lot of twists and turns to keep you guessing.  I felt bad for the young man in the end, but damn it was good.  It is not as action packed as I had expected though.  I was also not really into the supporting characters as I should have been I suppose.  The girl comes off as a waste but she soon picks up in the story.  And here I thought Ricky really went there for the job, the blurb definitely doesn’t let you know.  I felt a bit let down on that part and the fact that you don’t find it out till the book is halfway done.

Ricky was trying his hardest to save money to go to college.  He had decided to go away from home to do so, but there is a hidden reason behind it all.  Zack had gone there during the summer to work and within a short time there ended up in a world that was dark and nasty.  He turned up missing and Ricky wanted to find out why and how.  That is if it doesn’t get him killed as well.

Now I am not a fan of having the readers think this is a romance, because it is not.  It is just a dark mystery surrounding another, who just happens to be the main guy’s boyfriend.  It starts off with a description of the place and let’s just say that I would never visit there, not even if someone paid me to do so.  It is a very fascinating story that will have you on the edge of your seat throughout it all.

Now the story is very good and the writing was perfect, however it was just a bit too dark for my taste.  I figure it is definitely not a story to read before going to bed, that is if you dream of what you read.

I am afraid that even though I connected with the story and Ricky, the story was just not for me.  However I can’t wait to read more by this author.

Review: From start to finish this bundle of KC Well’s Learning to Love series is simply a pure joy to read. Each of the three stories get a resounding 5/5 from me! I love the characters and plot and the development of both. I particularly loved how each story, despite the fact each book centred on a different couple, flows on from one to other. The new couple is flawlessly introduced towards the end of the preceding story. It is generally just great seeing how these guys, all uni students living away from their biological families (and have very different family lives), make a new family centred around the first couple of the series: Sean and Michael.

Sean and Michael story is simply cute! It attracts the nerd in me because although I’m not particularly a Mel Brooks fan, I can more than relate to the couple who meet by exchanging lines from the movie Blazing Saddles. The book goes through the whole school year of Sean and Michael’s first year at university. There are ups and downs – there is some funny parts as both Sean and Michael come to terms that they really aren’t straight though their openly gay housemate, Evan, was convinced from the start. I think I have some reservations about what happened between the guys and Evan – I’m not entirely sure it flowed properly – but in the big picture it all works well. Yet, at the same time, pretty sure the story/series could have done well without that particular set of events.

Secondly, we have Evan and Daniel. After the events of the first book Evan is lonely and it is so deeply felt through the words of book. It makes me understand the “particular event” I wasn’t thrilled about above, but I still think that it could have done without it. I hate to say it in these words but Evan is a bit of a queen – but he is totally sweet and understanding and generally wonderful. In short, he is everything that Daniel needs. Daniel has gone through some traumatic experiences in the past and they have reared again once more.

Thirdly, we have Chris and Josh’s story.  Chris first popped up in the series as a villain, but he was a misunderstood villain and has since been taken under Sean and Michael’s wing. In a way, Josh came in as a consequence of what Chris’s initial involvement in the group. Josh was a nurse who got to know the guys after a couple of trips to hospital by Michael and Evan in their respective stories. I have to admit that Chris and Josh dance about each other both figuratively and literally and I will admit that the book seemed rather slow. However, in the end some drama helps to ignite the tension between us. Of all the minor characters, I have to say that Josh’s father, Mark, is a favourite of mine and he really did shine in this book along with his son. I will admit that when things looked at a bit dicey for Josh I shed a couple of tears and it was at this point that Chris really cemented his place in Josh’s life and in my heart as a truly wonderful character.

For the fourth and final story, we get to see all the loose ends tie up and most of the guys graduate from university. There is a lot of drama in the face of a medical scare for Sean. It is simply delightful to see the friends and their families rally around Sean and Michael. However, both Evan and Daniel and Chris and Josh go through their final bit of dramas. It all feels natural and in the end, though I love a good HEA, I was sad to see the guys finish their stories.

Each story gives us a peek at very different situations – death and two different forms of abuse. I loved these books and I cannot think of anyone who would dislike them, but I suppose, if you’re not into reading about guys in university, etc. this isn’t the book for you. But as I said, I think this bundle has something for everyone. All six guys are super relatable and totally wonderful.

Blurb: Every hippie worth his salt fights for a cause, and if sixteen-year-old Kale Oswald wants to call himself a true hippie, he has to do more than look the part. He has to stand for something, so he chooses the local human rights organization… where things don’t go as planned.

Julian Mendez is fresh out of the hospital because he thought swallowing a bottle of pills would be easier than admitting to his mother—and all the kids at school—who he really is and longs to someday live as: a girl named Julia. His medication might stop his body from developing into a man’s, but it won’t make facing his fellow students any easier. Because he plans to move forward with his transition—there was never any other choice.

Sexuality and desire aren’t the only facets of themselves Kale and Julian discover—and struggle with—as they get to know each other through the human rights organization. Some sides of themselves are easier to accept than others, but before they can move on—to friendship and maybe more—they’ll both have to take a hard look at what they want to become.

Review: My Crunchy Life is about two teens who have very real issues they are struggling through.

Kale is unsure of his sexual identity. He traverses from one thing to the next in search of answers of who he is. He joins REHO (Rights for Every Human Organization) where he meets Julian another teen who is struggling with bullying from a classmate. Julian is a male but feels he’s a female. After his attempted suicide he is firm in his decision to transition and has no doubts.

Hughie is young boy that Kale and his family take in after discovering he is living under a bridge. His mother is not what I would call a mother. Hughie seemed to flounder at times at Kale’s but I did worry every time his mom wanted to see him as he seemed to get almost depressed at those times.

These were serious issues that well fleshed out and written well. I felt the characters pain as the story progressed. Teens will enjoy the feel of this story with it’s sometimes humorous yet series settings. I liked the way the teens had some support with certain things. It broke my heart at the cruel nastiness that Julian and Hughie’s bully delivered to them constantly for a petty reason. I so wanted to hold them and tell them it would all be o.k

Emotional story with very real issues that affect teens today. It’s a message of hope and growth.

Great read.

John Lennon fought for world peace, but sixteen-year-old hippie hopeful Kale Oswald’s only made it as far as tie-dying his T-shirts with organic grape juice. Now he’s ready to cement his new hippie identity by joining a local human rights organization, but he doesn’t fit in as well as he’d hoped.

After landing himself in the hospital by washing down a Ziploc bag of pills with a bottle of Gatorade, Julian Mendez came clean to his mother: he is a girl stuck in a boy’s body. Puberty blockers have stopped the maturing of the body he feels has betrayed him. They’re also supposed to give him time to be sure he wants to make a more permanent decision, but he’s already Julia in his heart. What he’s not sure he’s ready to face is the post-transition name-calling and bathroom wars awaiting him at school.

When Kale and Julian come face-to-face at the human rights organization, attraction, teenage awkwardness, and reluctant empathy collide. They are forced to examine who they are and who they want to become. But until Kale can come to terms with his confusion about his own sexuality and Julian can be honest with Kale, they cannot move forward in friendship, or anything more.

Blurb: What if you could prove that the greatest Gothic horror novel of all time was a true story?

Dexter and Morgan meet on their eighteenth birthday. The attraction is instant but confusing. As they deal with coming out, they are bound together by more than first love.

Both keep diaries, and each has the same goal – to prove that Stoker didn’t write ‘Dracula’. They are convinced that Harker, Van Helsing and the others existed and wrote the novel’s journals themselves. If Dex and Morgan can prove it, they will blow the lid off the vampire myth: Dracula existed.

As the two teenagers fall in love, so they fall into an adventure as thrilling as it is dangerous. They are being watched, and someone is willing to kill to stop them from making ‘The Stoker Connection.’

The Stoker Connection is an MM Romance treasure hunt thriller. It draws on the original text of ‘Dracula’, but it is not a story about vampires. It is a story of first love and the power of friendship. Sometimes funny, it is an intriguing and honest account compiled from Dex and Morgan’s original diaries.

Review: I loved this story. It was different from any other I’ve read. Dex and Morgan’s journal entries showed an insight that was unique and refreshing as we get how both of them feel on different things happening in their lives. I found it interesting that both were born on the same date but that is not the only thing. There are many coincidences that cannot be discounted between the two.

The way the story is told is refreshing and invigorating. The story leads Dex and Morgan on an adventure to discover what they feel for one another, as well as what is truth and what is not regarding Dracula and the accounts that have been documented and told from various accounts.

It was fascinating to see the journey culminate in anticipation of what they do and don’t find, plus the element of danger as someone does not want them digging any further than they have. I was captivated from start to finish. I loved the entire book.

Fantastic story and highly recommended.
