Review: I liked this sequel to Harry and Sam’s previous story. There are twists and turns as Sam struggles with his growing abilities and keeping them a secret from Harry. But there is someone who is bound and determined to get Sam to use said powers for their own gain.

The story see’s things on a deeper level as the group tries to navigate their way through a throng of people with bad intentions. Sam for his part struggles with his secret plus the dreams he’s been having. There are great characters throughout that bring this story to life with amazing details that capture your attention and keep it riveted until the end.

I enjoyed the first book in this series as well as this book. An amazing addition to the series that held me spell bound from to start to finish.

Great read.

They’ll lose two people close to them before the final death threatens their chance of victory.

But Zaree isn’t planning to give up—not on Tasis’s dream and not on their future. If that means staring down death, she’s ready. A thousand years is too long to let their struggles end in anything but triumph.

Review: A lot happens in this conclusion to the series. Zaree takes up the reigns as Tasis is unable to. This book takes on a life of it’s own with a slew of characters that really add depth to the book. The journey itself is filled with danger and help from friends and allies.

I really enjoyed this addition. I was not expecting some of the twists and turns that happened so that was a pleasant surprise. I liked that unanswered questions from previous books were answered. Characters that were barely mentioned got their just dues in this exciting conclusion to the series.

Review: Boy Shattered by Eli Easton is nothing short of amazing. To be honest from reading the blurb I didn’t know what to expect, but Easton is one of my favorite authors and I was therefore more than willing to give it a go.

When I started this young adult tale of a teenager who survives a mass shooting at his high school, I thought to read only half of it and finish the rest the next night. Instead, I stayed up all night and cried from start to finish, Seriously, get those tissues ready, it’s impossible not to feel the depths or horror and despair and hope in this book.

The story is written from the POV of two teenage boys, one is a high school senior and the other is a couple years off of finishing. Landon, the senior, is out and proud to the rest of the school and not at all popular. Meanwhile Brian is a jock. He’s the quarterback on the football team, he’s friends with other jocks and to hide his sexuality he has even dated cheerleaders. Two of his friends seem to show some homophobic tendencies, while his best friend is more down to earth. Landon and Brian have both noticed each other but due to the social circles they occupy, nothing ever happens between them, or even any sort of acknowledgement of each other’s existence.

Everything changes for the boys when two gunmen open fire at the school, changing their worlds forever. Caught in the hallway, Landon does his best to find his brother and finds Brian bleeding out in the cafeteria. Brian hadn’t meant to be in the cafeteria, but when the bullets started he tried his best to hide and take cover. Brian wasn’t so lucky and as he bleeds out, Landon did his best to put pressure on the wound and keep Brian conscious.

Landon saved Brian’s life that day, but Brian has a long road to recovery. He and Landon grow close, although it is easy to see that what may have started as a dependency caused by Brian’s PTSD has turned into something more meaningful. Brian’s brush with death leaves him with a lot of fears but it also makes him want to step out of the shadows and be who he is, albeit very slowly. Landon also changes, he was already a smart and sensible guy, but he takes his passion for wanting to help others, especially since he sees the varying effects of a shooting first hand at himself and everyone at school. Landon has a great head and mind. He is one of the most inspiring characters I’ve come across, not only in young adult fiction, but any fiction.

This is a wonderful young adult novel, yet I think that it would be valuable and enjoyable for many adults as well. It is so easy to relate to the kid’s thoughts and feelings because despite the horrible circumstances it is easy to place yourself back in the mind of being a teenager once more.

The subject matter is confronting. The romance in the book is merely incidental to the actual guts of the book. However, it was the perfect mix of emotion. As many Australians, it’s difficult to understand the lack of urgency for gun reform in the US and this book highlights it all the more.

And that is the only personal view on a current affair I will put into the book review, understand that reading the book is very thought provoking and had me thinking about this. It also had me thinking, how many kids fear going to school because they know people from their school, or from other schools, who have been touched by this horror.

Review: I always enjoy reading about characters with unique abilities. It intrigues me as to how they cope with them and use them. Harry has the ability to fly. He uses it for the first time to save Sam when they were younger. Now they are together and on the run from someone.

I loved these two together. There is romance but the sex is off page which was fine with me. Jonah is a questionable character when Harry and Sam meet him. He wants to train Harry without Sam around. There are others with Jonah who are also being trained how to use their abilities.

A good mix of characters with abilities and some that are either shady or mean what they say. I loved reading this story. I hope there will be another book to further the story a long.

Fantastic read.

Review: Lucky has plans for a long break after his adventure but things do not go as planned and he is yet again pulled into another demanding adventure. Prophecy, battle plans and war quickly ensconce our brave Lucky into an unforgiving adventure with much at stake.

I loved everything about this story. It’s breathless scenes left me stunned at times. The battle plans were ingenious as well as the characters themselves all playing vital roles into bringing this stunning story into sharp clarity.

I was hooked from the very first word to the last in this exciting addition to the series. Another brilliant story for the Sun Child Chronicles as we follow Lucky on his journey yet again.

Review: Jorget has to hide his magical abilities from all but his mentor. In a time where magic users are executed by an evil king hell bent on destroying the newly reformed guild Jorget is given a task to find a weapon before the king finds it and uses it to undue the guild for good.

Tasis and Edwin take running and keeping the island and guild safe from bigotry and persecution. As such Edwin sets out to find the weapon before the king does. This sets in motion a grand adventure where even more twists and turns and secrets are revealed.

New characters are introduced in this exciting sequel as the action heats up. I love this series. The characters are very intriguing and all play a role in the story. I was on the edge of my seat as the story unfolded.

Review: Tasis starts having dreams that seem very real to him after his mother passes. With his sister Zaree the two set off to find an island that neither has heard of until now. The Dragon’s Claw is where The Mage’ Guild once was until a power ma king tried to take the magic by force. The results were catastrophic.

The adventure was well written with Tasis and Zaree facing danger and meeting new allies along the way. Kelwin accompanies the two when he finds out where they are headed. Zelwin and Tasis made a cute couple but there was no real romance in the story. Tasis finds out who he is actually related to and what his role is in the grand scheme of things.

I loved how the story progressed. The adventure was awesome with it’s twists and turns and eye opening dreams. A wonderful read with plenty of details surrounding the dragon’s claw and explanations regarding the past and what happened.

Awesome story.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: This story picks up where book one leaves off. Lucky is struggling with his new life. He feels he’s the reason for everything going wrong. Everyone else seems to have a place except Lucky. I found Lucky to be a bit self depreciating but that was to be expected given his new circumstances.

War breaks out and his Uncle is sent to where the troops are, leaving Lucky and his bodyguard and love interest, Zhevi behind. Zhevi wants to protect Lucky from all that is dangerous so the two set off on a dangerous mission when L’Aria is kidnapped. This adventure leads to finding out knowledge Lucky needs to come into his own and mature into the man he was destined to become one day.

I loved this story. Lucky was bit melodramatic but I understood why. Being thrown into a new world must have been stressing to say the least. The characters all had a roe to play in creating a wonderful story as the adventure unfolded. I loved everything about it.

Review: I love science fiction. This story however was confusing at times. There was evil scientists and the explanation of the duplicate process which is where I was lost. Maddy lost his boyfriend Jesse to suicide only to see him again and get blown away. The concept of duplicating someone without their previous consent irked me as I thought that was wrong.

I quite liked the action scenes, them being on the run and trying to stay ahead of those after them while at the same time reconnecting when the scene called for it. Still it was a lot of information to take in at once and I felt myself bogged down with the overload.

I still enjoyed the story as it played it out. Maddy and Jesse were great together and their friends were a constant encouragement and support for the two.

Good read.

Review: I’m just putting it out there – I love reading anything by Sean Kennedy and I especially love reading anything in the Tigers and Devils, and the related series Get Out (which this title is part of). However, something important to note is that the Get Out series needs to be read in order, starting with The Ongoing Reformation of Micah Johnson. I will admit that I have a particular soft spot for this series because I love reading sports books with sportsmen who are out of the closet. The fact that this series, like Tigers and Devils, is set in Australia and as an Aussie this is just way too many levels of awesome.

Micah Johnson Goes West picks at where we left off. Micah was a troubled teen who was helped by a program run by an ex-football (AFL) player who was outed towards the end of his playing career (See Tigers and Devils, though not necessary to read to understand). He is mostly reformed but since being drafted into the AFL and having to move from Melbourne to Perth is difficult for him to cope. He tries not to depend on his now ex boyfriend as an anchor to sanity, but that only leads him down a path of self destruction once more until he gets to know his roommate/team foster family Sam and Dane. Micah is struggling as the first openly gay footy player but he is still on the path of “growing up” and becoming the football player he wants to be.

This book strikes me on a number of levels. 1) As I said, I’m Aussie and I love the fact there is stories being written about gay men in football, it’s something that we need in real life. 2) I totally relate to Micah’s difficulty in moving from Melbourne to Perth since I made the move in the opposite direction between Adelaide and Sydney for work. And 3) It reminds me of something cool that hasn’t been overly talked about (I wonder if it’s because it’s about 2 women and not 2 men, whatever). Ok, so a bit of back story, in Australia this year was the first year that the women’s AFL was played at a professional level. The Co-captain of the Adelaide Crows – who won the grand final just the other week – is a woman who started her professional career playing state and national level basketball. She also happens to have a wife, who she married in the States, and adorable twins who were pictured seated in the AFLW grand final trophy with their sporty mama.

One other thing I love about this book – it almost has a soundtrack, with the song by the Village People, Go West – although to me it is was the version by Pet Shop Boys which was popular during my childhood. The themes of the song, as stated by Micah’s ex, perfectly sum up the themes surrounding Micah’s life. I love the concept of books having soundtracks, although I often construct my own playlists and often use Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Pete Murray songs for romances.

So in short – this is one fantastically written and totally down to earth, coming of age in professional sport in the world of the Australian Football League. I love Sean Kennedy’s wit and humor and the development of the characters so far have me looking forward to more.

Review: Oh. My. God.  Give me a minute while I get my emotions under control. I don’t know how to start this review as my head is still spinning from the wonderfully woven tale to the cliffhanger at the end.

Trying to find allies to fight an evil man is much harder than the band of allies anticipated. But find them they do and just in the nick of time. As with all epic tales there is fantasy mixed with paranormal on every aspect. The worlds themselves are beautifully depicted to the point where you actually see them. Hawk and Kane along with their allies are jolted as a new threat emerges along with the old ones.

I found that splitting the allies up and getting different POVs was extremely informative. We learn more about Molly, as well as a slew of others that have appeared throughout. The more I read of this series the more it climbs my list of all-time favorites.

I don’t want to give anything away so I’ll just say this: read the series. You won’t be disappointed. I certainly was not. As always this series has a lot going on in it and leaves you with a feeling of having been on a long journey underwater and finally let up for air only to feel anticipation for the next book in the series.

Absolutely brilliantly written, I loved it. Highly recommended.

Review: This series is an epic tale of Kane and Hawk, two boys drawn together in the fight of their lives. In this continuation Kane will stop at nothing getting Hawk back. It’s a gruelling and intense journey fraught with allies and a deceitful puck who has insinuated himself in royal household for reasons of his own: power. He causes a deadly uprising with the dark against the royals. He schemes and manipulates anyone to achieve his goal even at the cost of his own.

Kane travels to where Hawk is being held by three sisters who feed on blood. But the connection between Hawk and Kane is powerful yet not without a lot of pain being felt by both of them. They gain allies in the form of two dark assassins, Ator and Pullus who were the ones that originally kidnapped Hawk in the first place.

So much more happens in this awe inspiring story with twists and turns that left me on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen. Simply put an amazing journey with exceptional realms and all sorts of beings with a plot that is fantastic. I loved the entire book and cannot wait to read more.

Highly recommended.

Review: An epic end to Kane and Hawk’s long journey to find the culprits who are hell-bent for more power no matter the cost. I absolutely loved the entire book. I felt as though I was there witnessing everything.

A lot happens that tidies up the previous books while at the same time hinting at another mission for the males. Al the characters I loved throughout the series show up in this one to help with the fight but not without casualties. The battles were intense at times yet at the same time the group splits up to go about different things and of course we are along for the ride.

Adventurous, mysterious, action, drama, fantasy and a whole slew of other genres are all throughout this wonderfully written story. I could not stop reading until the very end. It had me hooked from the first page of the first book and continued well into this story. This is a must read in order series as each book continues where the previous book leaves off.

Highly recommended for all.

Do-Gooder

No good deed goes unpunished, and for seventeen-year-old Isaiah Martin, that’s certainly the case. The gun he was caught with wasn’t even his, for God’s sake. He only had it to keep a friend from doing something stupid. No one wants to hear it, though, and Isaiah is banished—or so it seems to him—to live with his missionary father in politically conflicted Cameroon, Africa.

However, when he arrives, his father is so busy doing his good deeds that he sends Henry, the young, surprisingly hot do-gooder with a mysterious past, to pick up Isaiah and keep him out of trouble. Even while Isaiah is counting down the days until he can go home, he and Henry get caught in the political unrest of the region. Kidnapped by militant forces, the two have to work together to survive until they are rescued—unless they manage to find a way to save each other first.
