Blurb: When Hunter decides he wants more from his relationship with Jake, the couple finds themselves at a crossroads. Never home for more than a few weeks at a time, Jake has been running from the pain of a rocky childhood ever since high school, when he first enlisted in the army. The thing is, he always comes back to Hunter’s bed. It’s not the kind of commitment Hunter wants, but it’s the kind he’s settled for—that and a dead-end job at the local bookstore in the small Southern town where he grew up. When Jake reveals his plans to make a full-time career in the army, Hunter wonders if he’s putting his life on hold for a relationship that will never happen. He needs to say something now before he loses Jake. However, if Jake can’t conquer his demons, Hunter’s asking for more is sure to drive him away.

Review: Hunter and Jake have been together for several years, but Hunter is finding himself wanting more out of it as of late. He dreams of Jake finishing his military tour and them buying a house and living happily ever after. But the reality of it is, he and Jake may be having entirely different dreams.

When Jake tells Hunter he is considering re-enlisting, Hunter starts to doubt the strength of their future together. He comes to realize he can’t continue to put his life on hold for a maybe, and he gives Jake an ultimatum of sorts, and wakes up the next morning alone. Just as his broken heart is starting to heal, Hunter runs into Jake’s best friend and finds out Jake didn’t re-enlist after all. When Hunter goes to see Jake, will it be that one last time, or will they reconnect after so much time apart.

What I liked about this short story was that it flowed well and gave a decent amount of back and current story for both characters. What I didn’t like was the miscommunication and the angst. I could respect that Jake was sort of messed up because of his past, but he had the love of a good man and he almost threw it all away. And let me just say, if you like make up sex, well then I think you’ll love these two and their break up sex!

Fast read that kept my attention throughout, definitely worth considering for fans of the genre.

Blurb: Twelve years ago, it was the beginning of the end of their relationship when Robby was outed to his ultra conservative parents by his college lover, Scott.

A lifetime later, a tragic accident has drawn Robby back into Scott’s life, but time and experience have created a chasm as big as the Grand Canyon. Not that Robby is trying to keep secrets from his old lover—not exactly. It’s just, with so many assumptions between them, sometimes it’s hard to know where to begin. How do you make an old friend see you for who you really are?

Trained as a firefighter, Scott has spent his life rushing headlong into dangerous situations and examining the consequences later. Now he’s surrounded by reminders of his impetuous nature. Despite the choices he’s made in the past, fate has given him a chance to start over—if he can only show Robby the truth, they can finally have the life Scott envisions.

One man is certain they can work things out—the other knows why they can’t. Only one of them can be right.

Review: Controlled burn is the second book in the Fighting fire series. I love this series and the Pulp friction collections. I like the way all the characters from each story interact. This story is about Scott and Robbie. We find a shocking detail about Robbie. I have to say I was surprised.

The story has a good deal of mystery and intrigue and it actually has a good conclusion of the mystery and a bit of cliffhanger still on the romance. I can’t wait to see where Laura takes us next on this bumpy journey.
If you like a continuing story, interactive stories, intriguing, complicated characters, lots of twists and some hot mansex this is for you.

A little something from M.J. O’SheaM.J. O'Shea - Dark Sun

Hi, this is M.J. O’Shea:)  I thought I’d give you a mini version of the soundtrack I made for Dark Sun and Rising Sun. I do this with every book. I can’t write with music on, but I usually listen to the playlist in my car and get into the  “mood” of the story and setting. This will be a combo of Dark Sun and the music I added for Rising Sun.

It wouldn’t be right to start with any other songs. The world itself came from a combination of Muse’s Assassin and Glorious. If you read Dark Sun and then come back and listen to these two songs, I think you’ll understand how it happened:)

Muse — Assassinhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfRQXIJ3fEM

Muse —  Glorioushttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wplx6ScmDc0

The rest of these are just part of the sound I was going for for gritty New Seattle and are a mix of songs I chose for the first book and the second.

Metric — Artificial Nocturnehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmYRRcaQLno

Nine Inch Nails — Every Day is Exactly the Samehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3K1t0669no

Late Night Alumni — In The Asheshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR8K24nuqss

Bastille — The Silencehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00p2FW7ZLVo

Decoder Ring — Beat the Twilighthttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhDtWtY6T1s

M83 — Midnight Cityhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX3k_QDnzHE

Civil Twilight — Letters From The Skyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8bN4AgsNIYM

That’s all for this book! If you want to find more of my playlists, or excerpts from Rising Sun come visit my website and blog:)

About M.J.

I’m Mj O’Shea, author of erotic romance–well all sorts of romance actually, that’s just what’s been published so far!

I grew up, and still live, in sunny Washington state and while I love to visit other places, I can’t imagine calling anywhere else home.

I spent my childhood writing stories. Sometime in my early teens, the stories turned to romance. Most of those were about me, my friends, and our favorite tv stars. Hopefully, I’ve come a long way since then…

Right now, I have four books published through Republica Press (click on the link to visit their site), but I’m constantly working on new projects.

When I’m not writing, I love to play the piano and cook and paint pictures…and of course read. It’s nearly impossible to work on my own writing when I’ve gotten myself hooked into a great new book:) I like sparkly girly girl things, own at least twenty different colored headbands, and I have a little white dog with a ginger eye spot who sits with me when I write. Sometimes she comes up with ideas for me too…when she’s not napping.

Find me online 🙂

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Castor is worried when his cousin Lynx goes missing and his family cover it up, with his brother Pollux Castor sets out to find out what has really happened to Lynx and to see if there is any truth to the rumors that Lynx is with the thief Katana. Jaffa lives in Midtown, he steals to feed his two friends but a jaunt to Metrolevel Market finds him crossing paths with a member of the Dragon Triad who seems determined to turn him over to the police. Both Castor and Jaffa learn the truth of the Triad’s when Castor uses Jaffa to get to Katana… and now it is a fight for their life and their freedom.

This is a great story that has the corrupt Triad’s ruling a city with a small gang trying to free the city from the Triad’s grip. Castor and Jaffa come from completely different walks of life, Castor is a member of the ruling Dragon Triad and is used to the comforts in life, whereas Jaffa lives in a derelict building struggling to steal enough to eat. When these two men meet their attraction is slow building and very much in the background, they become friends and become close working together on the larger plot line. Their developing feelings for each other happen over the course of the book and yes it is very sweet, but the real progress comes late in the book.

The main storyline is of Castor, Jaffa, Pollux, Lynx, Orion, Cassiopeia (Orion’s sister) and various others work together to change life for all of New Seattle and to show the Triad’s in their true light. Now this part of the story is brilliant as we follow all the moves and risks that the gang take, it is beautifully woven as decisions are made and a revolution takes place. My only complaint was that Castor and Jaffa were pushed to the sideline as Orion, Lynx and Cassiopeia seemed to take over and pulled the focus away from Castor and Jaffa… it was still seen from their eyes but was focused on the revolution and what others were doing.

So a great story but it does lack in the developing of the relationship, yes we see the sideways glances and the small touches but a lot of it is lost as the focus moves outwards to everything else that is happening. I do admit that the gearing up of the revolution is very interesting and exciting and is pulled together brilliantly, it definitely steals the show. Now I warned at the beginning that you have to read Dark Sun first and the reason is that what happened in Dark Sun is essential to Rising Sun’s plot and storyline, if you don’t read the first book then you wander around in the dark trying to figure out what is going on and while some of it is explained it only clears the fog a bit.

I recommend this to those who love futuristic stories, MC’s with character, finding love in unexpected places, a great storyline, a fight for freedom and a wonderful ending.

Review: I hated that this story was so short and just left me hanging. It was that good believe me. It gives you a wonderful beginning. Dr. Harvey Grace had agreed to a blind date, his date knew what he looked like but he had no idea what Jay looked like. The only thing he knew was that Jay was younger than he was. It was no only his first date with him but also his birthday. What a way to spend your birthday, it is so very hot.

Jay Lincoln was a gorgeous younger man who at first sight looked like he was just a bartender. What Harvey hadn’t realized was Jay was also the owner of the gay sports bar. They had little bits of a problem when Harveys ex-boyfriend shows up, but after that the night just held lots of promise. These two heat up the room and you can tell that they can easily fall in love with each other.

I loved this story but as I said it left me hanging. I can not wait to hear more about Havey and Jay. I want to know where there future goes . It is a really great story, told with the perfect tone. I can’t wait for the next book.

Review: Todd has always had one-night-stands, sometime right there in the living room so that Tucker can see them when he walks in the door. In one sense he is doing it to get Tucker to notice and in another it is because in his heart he really wants it to be Tucker who is with him. He has always loved Tucker even when they first met as foster kids. All though it was a brotherly love at one time, it slowly turned it to something more when they were sixteen. When he told Tucker, he thought Tucker was turning him down, he hadn’t realized that Tucker felt the same but he was scared.

Tucker had always wanted Todd, so much so that he never felt like being with anyone else. He was just getting tired of seeing Todd going through his conquests. He wanted Todd for himself. He was madly in love with his best friend and roommate. But how could they move forward when neither would start anything for fear of what the other would say. That is until one night and it turned into something full of passion and fire. Now all they had to do is love each other. That and steam up the windows everytime they get close.

I hate stories that leave me hanging, but hate it in a good way. I want to read more about Tucker and Todd and can not wait to read the next book about them. They are really hot together and they set the sheets on fire when they finally come together. I can not wait to get my hands on their next story. I can definitely recommend this story to anyone who wants a really cute and loving story.

Alex Michaels values intellect and propriety. To help pay the bills while he finishes his biological research degree, he waits tables at The Other Team. He’s trying to avoid romantic entanglements to focus on his studies, but the new cook, Ricky McNeil, is dangerously attractive. Ricky’s scars and tattoos have Alex both scared and horny. It doesn’t take long for Alex to cave in to their insane attraction. But can two men from two different worlds have more than just a physical connection?

UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Rickey-CockTails-Renee-George-ebook/dp/B00JD1PQWO

Review: Now this story was a bit funnier than book one and two of this series. I actually laughed throughout the story. It just hit me a bit off. I loved it. Alex vallues intellect and propriety, but he also a bit lonely. He decided not to date anyone since he would rather focus on his studies, however that was before Ricky Mcneil walks in. He actually had one date before but it had turned out that he wasn’t for him. He wasn’t sure what pulled him towards Ricky but Alex knew he wanted to see it forward. He just thought that Ricky was a bad boy all the way around.

Ricky however wasn’t exactly what he seemed to be. The slight beard he had covered scars from a bombing when he was a child, and the job was a second one. He would end up surprising Alex in the end. They had their ups and downs but you can tell from the start that these two will set fireworks off when they look at. They just heat the place up when they are together.

I loved this story but hated to be left hanging. I want to see where it goes so it is great news to hear that Alex and Ricky will have another story coming. These two are amazing together once you get past the hardness that you see. I would definitely be recommending this story to anyone who loves a short, cute love story and two very hot men.

College hockey player Austin Puett is in trouble. Unless he starts treating his flamboyantly gay roommate with respect, he’ll lose his room and his job at Rear Entrance Video. But Austin’s got a not-so-straight secret of his own: nothing turns him on more than insults implying he’s gay—even though he’s definitely not!—and all his old coping methods have stopped working.

Pure desperation drives him to rent a Mischievous Pictures porn flick about straight men tricked into servicing Puck, a male dominant. Instead of letting off steam, though, it just leaves him craving more, more, more, and suddenly, Austin finds himself at Mischievous Pictures Studios for an audition. After all, you can be Gay For Pay and still be straight . . . right?

But meeting Liam Williams, the real person behind Puck, confuses Austin even more. Liam really seems to like him as a person, and Austin likes him back. And while Gay For Pay’s okay, what does it make Austin if he still wants Liam when the cameras aren’t rolling?

About the Author

Heidi Belleau was born and raised in small town New Brunswick, Canada. She now lives in the rugged oil-patch frontier of Northern BC with her husband, an Irish ex-pat whose long work hours in the trades leave her plenty of quiet time to write. She has a degree in history from Simon Fraser University with a concentration in British and Irish studies; much of her work centered on popular culture, oral folklore, and sexuality, but she was known to perplex her professors with papers on the historical roots of modern romance novel tropes. Review: First of all, let me start by saying that this was one hell of a book, exquisitely written, extremely well thought of, with a great development of character and romance right in the middle of one hell of a kink. And to top it all it made me laugh and laugh with an amazing humoristic streak that came from between the lines and colored a read that would otherwise have been a bit heavy and/or uncomfortable.

Right after that I’d like to state that I really, really dislike the whole humiliation kink – yes, this story’s theme is humiliation as a kink – to the point I avoid books with such theme as much as I can. It makes me feel uncomfortable and it’s simply non-appealing to me. And you may well wonder how on Earth I gave this book a 5 Hearts rating since this is the case. Well, there exactly is my point. That despite me harboring a true dislike for this particular kink, the writing of this book was so brilliant that not once, not even one time did I feel the need to skim pages, or feel slightly unnerved by what I was reading. Just brilliant!

Now I’ve been following the Rear Entrance Video books since the first one and I’ve been enchanted by them. One character that had my absolute attention has always been Austin and I’ve been patiently waiting for his story. I’m so freaking glad to admit that Austin surprised and shocked the Hell out of me. I would’ve never thought the author would think of such a story for him and I seriously admire her capability of not only writing it and daring this peculiar kink, but the way it was narrated, the storytelling itself is commendable and worthy of a damn prize.

Normally I would have expected the angst and utter confusion Bobby suffered in Wallflower. Yes, Austin was seriously out of depth in everything he did or thought through 70% of the book, but the fact that this was narrated with a heavy dose of humor balanced the angst and the heaviness that would have drowned the story otherwise, without diminishing the importance of his issues.

What I also went crazy overboard with was the development between Austin and Liam; their dynamic was fascinating. There were times I expected the story to go down one path only for it to make a 180 and totally surprise me with the twists the author brilliant imagination thought off. If anyone had told me that Austin and Liam would have that “break” between them or the way they would manage to overcome issues I was blind to see before they were revealed, I’d have called them crazy. I could not imagine how things would possibly turn for the better once they took the down path. But it happened. The characters were blessed with many layers and their depth went beyond the surface, so beyond what I expected, only to charm the hell out of us with the way they overcame some seriously heavy social obstacles in their path.

So, bottom end this story was the best of them for me because the way I saw it, it was a Hell of a challenge to write it down and make it appealing in the same time. It was fantastic, well written and so much fun. It was also the last one in this “universe” according to the dedication page and I can’t say how sorry I am that Rear Entrance Video is over. This was definitely a very worth reading stand-alone series, one I don’t even hesitate to recommend. The quality of all three books is excellent and Straight Shooter in my opinion is a must read. Enjoy!

Despite the impolite rejection, Drew knows he didn’t have the wrong impression months ago when he asked the sheriff to dance, but he never expected to have Holden’s life in his hands. Literally.

Thanks to some meddlesome matchmaking, the two men are now temporary housemates at the Willow Springs Ranch and Drew is determined to help Holden heal, both physically and emotionally. Book 3 – Taking Chance

Officer Chance Carter is pretty sure he’d still enjoy being on either end of a good ass reaming—just not the one from his supervisor that lands him on an involuntary extended vacation. Another holiday season with nothing to do except visit an old friend.

Former hospital corpsman Bryan Mitchell doesn’t feel less than honorable, but that’s what his discharge paperwork states. Now he’s down and out in Kingman, Arizona until the charity of a stranger lands him a temporary job for the holidays.

When two federal employees go missing during a highly controversial wild horse roundup, the two Willow Springs Ranch newcomers are drafted to help in the search, but if rumors of a local anti-government militia are true, Chance and Bryan may be in serious trouble—and from something far more dangerous than their mutual attraction.

Laura Harner - Willow Springs Ranch 3.5

Book 3.5 – Ty’d Down (free short)

Ty brushed his hands on the long white apron and moved to the island counter to add more frosting to the piping bag. Cake decorating had never been his favorite chef duty, but like many cooks in the Navy, he had plenty of experience. He took another sip of coffee then began the final step of piping the white border around the edge of the top layer. He would add the already prepared red roses, last. As peace offerings went, a chocolate three-layer cake with buttercream icing wasn’t much, but Cass would forgive him. Eventually.

Today should have been their wedding day, but Ty had put a stop to all the foolishness weeks ago. For fuck’s sake, Arizona didn’t even have gay marriage. The gathering of friends for a commitment ceremony just seemed…stupid. Besides, Cass had just been caught up in the events surrounding Chance and Bryan’s rescue when he’d proposed. The truth of their relationship had been plain as day when Cass tried to take over the conversation after Bryan had been rescued. The words still echoed in his head.

“It’s my ranch…my decision…” Cass was boss and Ty the cook. Point taken. Ty wasn’t even bitter. Much. Cass was right, this was his ranch and Ty had usurped his authority—but goddamn it! No one here was better than Ty when it came to running a covert mission. Cass should have respected him enough…trusted him enough…

Book 4 – Hanging Chad

For Chad Ollom, landing on the Willow Springs Ranch after his teaching career crashed and burned last year was a lesson in irony, considering he’d sworn off all things related to horses and cowboys after a near fatal fall as a child. Now with a new mission in life, Chad plans to bring critically ill children to the ranch for a special celebration.

Aging rodeo cowboy Jesse Duran lives life eight seconds at a time, and whether it’s broncos or men, it’s always been get on and get off before anyone gets hurt. When he’s required to take a break from the circuit and ends up on the WSR, the enticing ass of a stand-offish teacher turned contractor might just be enough challenge to keep him entertained for a week or two.

As attraction flares, personal boundaries start to crumble, and the lines between seducer and seduced begin to blur. When the series of on-going attacks against the WSR moves from sabotage to arson, Jesse steps up to help, but when Chad is forced to return to his past to face charges, the men of the WSR want to know if Jesse will stick or leave Chad hanging.

Book 5 – Park’s Lot

When vegan, peace-loving, social do-gooder Park Williams stumbles across the half-dead cattle rancher who has been sabotaging the Willow Springs Ranch in the name of a homophobic militia group…there’s only one thing to do. Save his life, then share his tent. Waking to find the man’s dick pressed against his ass is just a bonus.

Tanner Triplett is in trouble. Not the your-brother-is-a-sociopathic-murderer-and-you’re-his-next-victim sort of trouble. Not even the your-father-is-trying-to-overthrow-the-federal-government-and-you’re-going-to-jail-for-helping kind of trouble. No…this is the sort of trouble that comes when you wake up with stranger’s dick in your hand. Holy fuck. How is he going to get out of this?

A sudden need to run for their lives ought to do it.

Determined to make amends, Tanner leads Park to the relative safety of the WSR, where the biggest danger should be from gun-wielding cowboys seeking revenge. Tanner hadn’t counted on sharing a room with the exotically beautiful Park or the danger to his heart when the carefully erected walls protecting his secret come tumbling down.

About Laura

Raised in California, Laura likes it hot, which explains why she ended up in Arizona via such diverse places as Japan, Maine, and Florida, and many more places in between. After retiring from the US Navy, she found a niche working for land management agencies, including the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Though she has held many jobs around the world, her favorite was working and living in Grand Canyon National Park. Working (and eating) in New Orleans was a close second. You will find many of her books are set against the rich backdrops provided by coastal Louisiana and northern Arizona.

When asked how she started writing, Laura tells of waking on Boxing Day a few years ago, with a woman named Elena MacFarland yammering in her dreams, demanding her story be told. Despite never attempting to write fiction before that morning, Laura ignored all of the holiday visitors and the Highland Destiny series was born. She doesn’t believe it was a coincidence that the great grandmother who died when Laura was just a baby was named Elena MacFarland. Destiny does play a hand.

Laura became a full-time writer in 2012, and now she spends her time writing, watching her Arizona Diamondbacks, and working on her very own version of the Willow Springs Ranch in northwestern Arizona. She is a multi-published author of erotic romance, mystery, and urban fantasy and her books can be found at all major online retailers.”

Review: Chaos erupts in this sequel to Seduction of a King. Something has been unleashed in Wonderland, a creature that is leaving a trail of bodies, and James the King of Hearts has a plan to bring an end to the madness.

We learn what happened to Kayden when James betrayed him, what I believe caused his decent into madness and his journey to becoming Hatter. Marcus is on a mission in New York to obtain an amulet and a spell that James needs in order to defeat the creature. Let’s just say, while he’s there he gets a little side tracked. Darkness and betrayal run deep in Wonderland.

Marcus finally returns to Wonderland, but doesn’t immediately go to his stepfather. He tries to gain more knowledge about the items he brought back, but everything in Wonderland comes at a price, sometimes a price too high to pay. All the while, they are closer to discovering the whereabouts of the creature that is wreaking havoc throughout the Kingdom.

There was so much going on in this story that at times, it was hard to follow. Multiple characters and storylines intersect, but at times, they were broken and disjointed. I found myself having to go back and read several pages over because I was so confused. I did enjoy the back-story of Kayden in the dungeons, it gave much more insight into his persona now and why he is Hatter. And he finally says those three little words, hearing them in return, but you’ll have to read the story to find out to whom.

There is a fantastic moral story as well that is tied into the creature that you will learn toward the end of this book. So while there were some hiccups and speed bumps along the way, the random pit stops will give you more insight into certain characters and their story specifically. I especially liked Rabbit’s distraction while in New York. And of course, Metheny left us with a delicious little tease for the next instalment in his mad version of Wonderland.

This is the second book in a series that should be read in order. Seriously, if you don’t read Seduction of a King first you will definitely be confused!

Blurb: It’s easy to become cynical when life never goes your way.

Cole Reid has been a social recluse since he was fifteen, when he was outed by his high school baseball team. Since then, his obsessive-compulsive behavior and sarcastic nature have driven away most of the population, and everyone else hates him because he’s gay. As he sees it, he’s bound to repulse any prospective friends, let alone boyfriends, so why bother?

By the time Cole enters college, he’s become an anal-retentive loner—but it’s not a problem until his roommate graduates and the housing department assigns Ellis Montgomery to move in with Cole. Ellis is messy, gorgeous, straight, and worst of all, a “jock”!

During a school year filled with frat buddies, camping expeditions, and meddling parents, Cole and Ellis develop a friendship that turns Cole’s glass-half-empty outlook on its head. There must be more to Ellis than a fun-loving jock—and maybe Cole’s reawakening libido has rekindled his hope for more than camaraderie.

http://www.audible.com/search?advsearchKeywords=My+Roommate%27s+a+Jock%3F+Well%2C+Crap%21

Review: Cole Reid is not only cynical, he’s neurotic and slightly OCD. He’s been a loner since high school when he was embarrassingly outed in the locker room and then pummelled by the jock he was eyeing. He tried to live in the dorms when he started college, but the more private apartment style housing worked better for him. His current roommate moves out and Cole can’t find a replacement before the new term, so he is assigned one, much to his dismay.

Ellis Montgomery is a star soccer player, a jock, and now he’s Cole’s new roommate. Ellis is outgoing, laid back and anything but a neat freak. Cole is very glass half empty, while Ellis is glass half-full, which makes for some very interesting situations throughout this story. An amusing romance ensues between these two. Cole has almost always known he was gay, but Ellis was assuredly very much straight, right? There is a lot of give and take to be had here, and both guys have to learn that mere attraction won’t sustain a relationship. Communication, trust and compromise are what will keep them together in the end.

I think I would classify this story as a romantic comedy with a dark edge to it. Cole has this inner monologue running throughout that borders on psychotic at times, but it will having you laughing aloud. Ellis figures out he’s attracted to Cole early on, it’s how to deal with that attraction and their budding relationship in public that will prove challenging. There was a struggle for Ellis in the story with the sexual aspect of their relationship that was very unique. I don’t want to say too much and give it away, because it was a welcome surprise for me to have an author word it the way Kelly did, so I’ll leave that part for you to discover.

Narrated by Jason Lovett who himself sounds like a neurotic college kid, so it was kind of perfect. His voice comes across as shy, insecure and young, which really worked for these two characters. Both Cole and Ellis are conflicted by their growing feelings for one another, and it was nice that even though there was a connection from the start, it wasn’t an instant love type of story. Their romance is rocky, inexperienced and at times volatile.

There were just a couple of times when the story and the characters didn’t connect. Slightly disjointed I guess you could say. But overall, this was a great story with some brilliant one-liners and good narration. And while the sex scenes weren’t over the top erotic, they weren’t just alluded to either. The romance fits the age of the characters very well. If you like a story with laugh out loud moments that will surely put a smile on your face, you should grab a copy!

Blurb: A domestic story told in numerous original and endearing voices. The story opens with Wesley, a tenth grader, and involves his two sets of parents (the mom and her second husband, a very thoughtful doctor; and the father who has become a major gay lawyer/activist and his fabulous “significant other” who owns a restaurant).

Wesley is a fabulous kid, whose equally fabulous best friend Theo has just won a big school election and simultaneously surprises everyone in his life by announcing that he is gay. No one is more surprised than Wesley, who actually lives temporarily with his gay father and partner, so that he can get to know his rather elusive dad. When a dramatic and unexpected trauma befalls the boys in school, all the parents converge noisily in love and well-meaning support. But through it all, each character ultimately is made to face certain challenges and assumptions within his/her own life, and the playing out of their respective life priorities and decisions is what makes this novel so endearing and so special.

Review: This story is told from multiple perspectives throughout, but the majority of the time the reader is hearing from Wesley himself and George, his father’s significant other.

Wesley is at a turning point in his life it seems, completely unsure of which fork in the road to take. He is living temporarily with his father Kenny and his father’s partner, George. While Kenny is an established gay rights activist and lawyer, throughout the story he is completely emotionally distant with both his son and his partner. George fits the older, self-aware gay man persona to a ‘T’. He is successful in his own right as the owner of the restaurant they live above, Echo, and wants nothing more than to connect with his stepson Wesley and reconnect with the love of his life, Kenny.

Wesley’s best friend Theo has won the class election for President, and announced to the entire school that he is gay. Now he wants his best friend Wes to talk to his two dads about the implications of Theo’s confession. He’s curious. Is it a choice? Was he born this way? While Wes, Theo, George, Kenny and all the other key players in Wesley’s day-to-day life circle through the story; Wes’s questions and contemplations are the heart of the novel. When the boys fall victim to a homophobic attack at school, Wes begins to question things even more so.

At the end of the novel, I learned that the author who is also the narrator is a former screenplay writer for some pretty successful TV shows. That made perfect sense then, as the story read like the script for a movie throughout, heavy on descriptive as if I needed to see what I was hearing and reading. It was difficult for me to really immerse myself into this story, as the narrator wasn’t really a narrator or a storyteller. He simply read the words from the book. And at times, I couldn’t differentiate which character was speaking because of the lack of emotion in his voice. I would like to see what a true narrator like Paul Morey or a storyteller like Sean Crisden could do with this novel.

I’m rating this one right down the middle because I’m really torn on how I feel about it. The narration was off and the story didn’t flow well, I also felt nothing but contempt for Wesley’s dad because of the way he was portrayed. My rating would be even lower if it weren’t for the character George. He was exactly as promised, utterly fabulous. His back-story and the way he was so intent on developing a sturdy relationship with Wesley made him very endearing to me.

While this wasn’t the audio book for me, I have to say, I’d love to see this made into something on-screen.

Review: The Real Finn is a sweet romance with mystery and intrigue. Throughout this story, we follow along as Shad tries to figure out who the real Finn is. He falls in love with the man, his partner undercover, rather quickly, but wonders how much of what he sees is real or an act. Shad tries his best to comfort Finn and is shocked by his request after their first undercover mission together. (I can’t say what it is, since it would be a spoiler.)

Finn is a very complicated character. He is so good at acting and becoming the undercover character even he isn’t sure who the real Finn is. I can’t really say I ever got to the point of liking Finn. I found him a bit wishy-washy and a user. I never really connected with the characters and I felt the story moved a bit fast.

The story was very interesting. I liked the flirting between Finn and Shad. I also liked that there was the undercover story and the other attached mystery, but I felt the undercover mission needed to be fleshed out instead of told to us in little drops over the next few chapters. If the undercover mission had been drawn out, more I think the story would have been much better.

All in all this is a very interesting romance with complicated characters and a sweet romance.

Blurb: On the surface, the business of the infamous House of Silence is obvious enough, but its carefully cultivated veneer of political neutrality is threatened when a lover from Master Charon’s youth arrives with an urgent message from the queen, prompting jealousy from Reiji and putting the whole house on edge.

The House’s unique resources are called upon to investigate one of the local cabals, which are overstepping its bounds, snatching up disproportionate amounts of territory and capital beyond its domain. When Tam goes missing, Charon and the boys are caught up in a web of intrigue, peril, and sensuality that may end up costing them their lives. (M/M)

Review: This book was so good I don’t know where to start. It is filled with mystery intrigue and nail-biting suspense with dark undertones, lots of emotion and of course hard-core sex.

House of Silence is a series and this is the third book. I have to say it’s my favourite. I will be adding HOS to my list of favourite series this year, Charon and Reiji as one of my favourite couples.

There are lots of emotional drama in this story. We get a deeper look into the lives of some of the regular boys such as Reiji, Tam, Danny and Vincent. And in this book, we add in Nao, from the last book. Tam, Reiji and Charon are the focus of the story but we still get a good look into some of the other characters from the past two books. By the way, this series each can stand alone but I think you’d get a much better feel by reading them in order since the characters do move from book to book, though the plots are different to a degree in each book.

I have to say this was my favourite part of the book and is in it from beginning to end. Each sex scene between these two are so hot you need an ice-bath. They really show each other’s personality plus why they make such a perfect couple. If ever two people were made for each other these two are. Even the one ménage scene was amazing. It wasn’t about the sex at all but I won’t say any more you really need to read this to see what I am talking about. The sex scenes Tam were in especially the ones on the job really showed, his personality and his endurance. The ones with Brand were on another more emotional level. Then of course we had Vincent and Aburon, these two deserve their own book and could vie easily for hottest couple. There is also a couple good ones between a few of the boys. Yes, there is a lot of sex in this book. Some of it is very rough and chilling, some very sweet and sensual and some just pure hot mansex. But the book is about a bordello for the rich and royal. I even have to give the author props on the antagonist of this story. I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for him, yet want to string him up and beat the crap out of him too.

The story itself was full of nail-biting suspense when Trent Devereaux shows up as the Queen’s Liaison. We find that he was Charon’s first lover and love and the flames still smoulder in both men. He presents Charon with a new task since he is taking the place of Montgomery (he is in book two if you want to know more about him.)
The Cabals are at war with each other and a smaller Cabal is rising taking control of all the smaller ones now setting sites on the big ones Family members are disappearing from some of the bigger, leading Cabals. Charon’s task is to invite one of the prominent players from the Cabal that seems to be taking over as no one knows who the actual leader is but Sasha Monet is a key player. Charon does extensive background checks to anyone that comes into the House so this gives a way to tackle a very detailed background check while the boys of the House keep the man occupied. This is where the suspense begins and you go on one heck of a ride full of twists and turns; nonstop, shocking ones at that.

I highly recommend this book if you love a great series that is well-developed, lots of intriguing characters, Lords. Police officers, Cabals (mobs), suspense, mystery, betrayal, and deception, BDSM, Ménage, blood-play, D/s, other fetish and some really hot ManSex. You name it. It’s probably in this book.

Blurb: Carlos and Thomas need one night when they don’t talk about planning their wedding.

Carlos’ family keeps butting in, big chunks of Thomas’ family refuse to be involved, and the stress of planning this huge celebration for this many people—many of whom don’t speak the same language—is too much.

Carlos declares that they are going to spend one night together without wedding planning. To sweeten the pot, they play a little game by pretending to meet for the first time at an expensive restaurant downtown.

But at the restaurant, Thomas runs into Jimmy Colton, an old college crush who is in town for business. By the time Carlos arrives, the game has changed, and the three of them are heading back to Jimmy’s hotel room to fulfill a long-held fantasy.

Review: There is nothing like a sexy little short to send you off to bed with sweet dreams. And that is just what this book was. Short, Sexy and Steamy, my three favorite colors!

High School sweethearts Thomas and Carlos are planning their wedding, and the pressure is getting to them in more ways than one. Carols sister’s constant nagging about their choice for flower girl is just a tiny drop in the pond of insanity that has become their wedding planning. In an attempt to get away for a night and reconnect, Carlos decides a little role-playing is in order. So he dresses his fiancé up in his finest suit and sends him off to a trendy bar to wait for him, “the stranger” to come pick him up.

Not long after arriving at the pre-determined destination, Thomas is at the bar drink in hand when he see’s Carols waving. Only it isn’t Carlos, it’s a friend from high school that all the boys crushed on, Jimmy. Once Jimmy is let in on the little secret behind tonight’s outing, he decides to deepen the intrigue and throw himself into the mix, so to speak. Will Carlos and Thomas take a chance at crossing an item off their bucket list by allowing another man into their bed? Even if it is a man, they’ve known since high school.

This story was so realistic and intriguing. Before I knew it, I was finished. Duvalier delivered a well-written, well-paced novella guaranteed to spice up about an hour in anyone’s day. The characters just clicked and the story flowed so well. Very steamy but sensual, and the ending leaves me hoping that there may be more to come from this daring trio. Just one little hiccup, toward the end Jimmy is doing something to himself that I’m certain is not humanly possible, and he does this a couple of times. After going back and reading that sentence again I figured out that should have been Thomas.

Like I said… short, sexy and steamy!

Review: Surviving Sin City is very much your traditional zombie story, with two consenting adult males pounding each other into oblivion as an added bonus! Cooper is a Brit on vacation in Las Vegas when he finds himself smack dab in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. While trying to get out of Vegas and back to England he runs into Kaleb, an American trying to stay alive and hide while he looks for his brother. The sexual chemistry is evident from the start and it doesn’t take long for Kaleb to find a safe place to bury himself, if you catch my drift.

Can these two find Kaleb’s brother, as well as safety, while surrounded by hoards of zombies that get smarter with each brain they eat?

This hard-core zombie story with lots of blood, guts, brains and some sexy guy on guy action when Cooper and Kaleb redefine the term “mile high club”! I’d recommend fans of the M/M genre give this one a go, if you like zombie stories as well, that’s definite plus! This book was just bloody good fun with some hot sex thrown in the mix, you know, just in case.

Megan Derr:

Expanding a Story.

As previously stated, Princes of the Blood actually began as a couple of really short ficbits I posted to my LJ and later moved to my website (one of them, anyway. Dalibor’s never got moved; I no longer remember why).  So how does a 3700 word ficbit turn into a trilogy totaling 188,000 words?

Lots of caffeine and alcohol to start.

But the first part is figuring out if there’s more story to tell. Luckily for me that question already had a firm yes.

From there, it’s time to cannibalize the original 3700 words to figure out what can be kept and transformed and what will have to go because it worked in short form but will not hold together in long form.

Kristof and Håkon not getting along? Kept. That was the easiest part in the end.

Other bits had to go:  Kristof not understanding how the Princes work mostly had to go, though a small element was retained. Elements of the marriage and why Kristof was marrying him had to change. Hackle got changed to Håkon because Hackle didn’t quit fit anymore.

Pieces retained and fleshed out:  the concept of Håkon needing special blood, that he’s at least in part a demon. There were other things discarded or kept, but that would be spoilery.

So, roughly decided upon what is getting kept, it’s time to move on to expanding those bits.

Most obviously were Kristof and Håkon’s roles. One a paladin, the other royalty. That was changed. Princes of the Blood aren’t royalty, merely the most powerful figures in the Legion. The Legion was the next thing to come, built out from the way I designed the Princes, the way they need pure blood, etc.

A lot of world building elements are thought of all at once. Laying it out makes it look all 1,2,3,4 but really it’s more like 1T56WX3AB9CDG2.

As all of that got sorted out, I had to build the rest of the world: religion, magic system, other bits of the culture. Given they live in the fallout of an ugly war, and everything is shaped very sharply around surviving all the nightmares that plague them, this made for a lot of fun. People are slaughtered by the hundreds, even thousands, often, so keeping the population up is extremely important. You don’t see a lot of women and children (sadly) because they’re kept locked away and safe. Polyamorous marriages are fairly standard (in the beginning of OLR, Raffé is engaged to a man who already has two wives and is hoping that he’ll get along with all of them; Korin is married to Telmé, but they’re good friends with the woman with whom Korin had a daughter; the kings always have 2-3 wives).

Little things matter too. This world tells time in minutes and hours, but they mark the hours with names. Only a few of them are mentioned in the books, but I have the full list. I know the crest and colors of every force within the Legion, and all the Houses.

And all the demons etc. that come into play aren’t entirely made up, either. I spent a lot of time picking out the demons upon which to base various Princes. I drew a map, I worked out the Reaches, I figured out how they survive when pure blood is so hard to come by and people die frequently and often.

After all the little pieces were fleshed out, and I had a rough outline, laying the story out was easy. The original ficbit for Håkon and Kristof was really only the end of their story. So going back to the start, figuring out how they met and what happened from there … expanding the story really wasn’t hard.

If anything, the hardest part of doing something like this is realizing that no story is set in stone. Be it editing, rewriting, or expanding, a story is not a static thing, set down once and never allowed to change. Some of my stories I’m content to leave as they are, but I have no doubt that somebody read it and went ‘I could do this better’ or ‘yeah, but what if I did it this way’.

And they definitely should.

Other stories are like The Lost Prince. Fun as it is, once I said ‘let’s see what else you got,’ it turned into Princes of the Blood and gave me 188,000 words.

As ever, writing is less doing and more doing as one is told.

Much love to everyone for reading my ramblings.

Jacob Flores - Tharp-Flores--(1179)__06_12_13

Hello, all! My name is Jacob Z. Flores, and I’m glad to be here at MM Good Book Reviews. I really appreciate my hosts for extending an invitation and for agreeing to be a stop on my blog tour promoting my latest Dreamspinner release, When Love Comes to Town. This is the fourth and final book of the Provincetown Series, but don’t worry: the books don’t have to be read in order of publication. I wrote each one so readers could enjoy them in any order they wished to pick them up. I like to make things as easy on my readers as possible. Who doesn’t like that?

Today, though, I’d like to talk about the cover for When Love Comes to Town, which happens to be my favorite of the four covers.

Jacob Flores - WhenLoveComestoTown

The artist responsible for the cover, as well as all of the covers for the Provincetown Series, is Michael Breyette. If you haven’t seen Michael’s paintings before, then you must immediately get yourself over to his website by clicking this link. Go ahead; click it. I’ll be right here waiting when you come back.

See? I told you you’d be glad you went, but did you really have to be gone for an hour? Sheesh! Just what were you doing over there?

So as you no doubt saw on the website, Michael’s artwork is stunning and, the pictures he paints capture intensely intimate or emotional moments. Many of his paintings are also set in Provincetown. Naturally, that made his artwork a perfect fit for this series.

What I appreciate the most about Michael’s art (besides the hot, barely dressed men that is) is the mood of his images. They are fun and flirty, which perfectly captures the tone I set for the entire series and for Provincetown itself.

The title of the painting for When Love Comes to Town is “Blue State,” which perfectly describes one of the main characters of the book, Brody O’Shea.

Why is Brody blue?

Well, it’s mostly because he’s waiting for the perfect man. You see, Brody has lived his life mostly for the moment. He’s a pretty attractive guy, and he’s super nice to boot, but he’s never really been into relationships. The last one he had was in college, and when it got too real, he bolted faster than a Phelps at a gay pride event. Since then, Brody has just drifted from guy to guy, living life as a happy horndog.

That never bothered him until he moved to Provincetown. All his friends have partnered up and found true love, and Brody now sees exactly what he’s been missing all these years. He wants what everyone else has found, especially as the characters prepare for the wedding of two of their closest friends.

So Brody searches for his true love, but he goes about it the wrong way. Brody has some pretty high standards. He has a list of requirements that his “perfect” man must have, and when the men he dates doesn’t meet one of his prerequisites, they’re crossed off the list and on he goes, looking for love in the arms of the next candidate.

Brody has yet to learn what all the other characters have already been schooled on. Love is not something you find; love finds you.

That is why when the ruggedly handsome sheriff’s deputy, Eric Vasquez comes to town for his cousin Van’s wedding, Brody dismisses the hot cop as a potential mate. He might find Eric to be the hottest man he’s ever seen with a quirky personality he is drawn to, but there’s a hitch—Eric’s daughter Maddie.

Being childless is the most important requirement Brody has for his ideal man. And like the man depicted on the cover, Brody turns his back to the sea, completely unaware that it may have brought to him not what he’s been looking for but what he might have always needed.

That is why I chose “Blue State” for the cover of the final book in the series.

Before I head back to my part of the Internet, I want to thank everyone here at MM Good Book Reviews and the readers who joined me today.

For those interested, I have included a blurb and excerpt below. Additionally, as part of my blog tour I’m hosting a giveaway.

Blurb:

Brody O’Shea isn’t looking for much, just a hot guy with a decent job, who is sane and doesn’t have kids. The son of a former rock star, Brody has lived through the pain of bankruptcy and bad parenting, and he doesn’t want to experience it again. As a reformed horndog, he wants the security and stability of a relationship. But almost every guy he meets seems satisfied with Mr. Right Now, and he wants to find Mr. Right—now!

The only men Eric Vasquez chases are criminals. As a deputy and single father, he has no need for a relationship after his last one ended disastrously. He lives for and through Maddie, his nine-year-old daughter. Everything else is a needless distraction, but distraction is what Eric gets when he comes to Provincetown to attend the wedding between his cousin Van and the man of his dreams.

When Brody and Eric meet, what they want and what they find conflict. An ocean of expectations separates them. If they cannot move past their reservations to reach each other’s shores, they might miss the boat when love comes to town.

 Jacob Flores - Tour Badge

Excerpt:

Brody closely scrutinized the passengers as they exited the ferry. Perhaps one of the men who now scurried down the ramp might be the man of his dreams. Stranger things had happened. It was Provincetown after all. If someone like Nino Santos could find love, why couldn’t he?

Nino wasn’t exactly the kind of guy who partnered up. He’d always been the fuck-’em-and-leave-’em type. That was how they’d met last year. As a trick. Yet somehow Nino—with his model-perfect body, asshole attitude, and vain, self-absorbed ways—managed to find true love with Teddy, the nicest and sweetest man to ever walk this planet.

Just how the fuck did that happen? How could Nino have someone, and he be alone?

That just didn’t make any sense whatsoever.

What was he doing wrong? Not a damn thing as far as he was concerned.

He just had standards he wasn’t willing to sacrifice. For anyone. Sure, plenty of guys made exceptions. Most of his friends had. Quinn had to deal with Gary’s penchant for drag, and Gary had to put up with Quinn’s more serious approach to life. Zach looked past Van’s old porn career, and Van got over how Zach treated him. Teddy saw beyond the many awful qualities Nino possessed. As for Nino, well, he couldn’t find one bad characteristic Teddy had that Nino would have to overcome. The only negative Teddy brought with him to a relationship was his best friend Irene. Which was bad enough.

He wasn’t willing to overlook things that bothered him. Why should he? He wasn’t going to change himself for someone else and let someone else call the shots.

That wasn’t love. That was a dictatorship, and his dick wasn’t going to be ordered around by anyone. Well, except him, of course.

It was entirely within the realm of possibility that he would find someone who met his standards, a list that had grown exponentially after his encounter with Dan, and whom he wouldn’t have to change for. After all, that was the entire reason for the list. Surely, the man who met all his requirements would not only be perfect for him, but those standards would make Brody perfect for his ideal man as well.

It was a win-win situation for everyone.

Now, all he had to do was find that one perfect guy.

The group that now made its way down the pier didn’t have anyone to his liking. They were all smoking and blowing their cancer clouds all over the damn place. How could making out with an ashtray be hot? Behind the Future Cancer Patients of America strolled an attractive group of guys, but they had a little too much swish in their hips. What were they trying to do? Wash their clothes as they walked? He pictured himself with a manlier man. So they were definite no-nos.

Then he spotted a dark-skinned, ruggedly handsome man step off the metal gangway and look up and down the pier. He had a soft spot for dark skin. Especially on men with a bearded and good-looking face. And there didn’t seem to be another man with him.

This guy had definite promise.

Not only did he appear single, but he also had a thick head of black hair that wasn’t so long that it made him look grungy and wasn’t so short that he looked like a carbon copy of every other man who came to Provincetown. It was longer on the top, especially toward the front, but trimmed perfectly at the nape of the neck and on the sides. His unique hairstyle marked him as someone who was his own man, an original. He liked that.

Brody also enjoyed the way strands of hair fell in front of his eyes, which looked light in color. He couldn’t tell what hue they were from this distance, but they looked to be a mixture of yellow, gold, and copper. How much more unique could a man get?

He also wasn’t immediately lighting up a cigarette. While it didn’t automatically make him a nonsmoker, it showed promise that he wasn’t. His clothes also didn’t look dated or filthy, and he carried himself with an air of confidence. Only the gainfully employed could pull that off in his opinion. That was yet another requirement met.

And he hadn’t even talked to him yet!

All this man had to be was a sane, humble, nonwhining, childless man, and eureka! He’d have struck gold.

But in order to find that out, Brody would have to go up and talk to him. He just didn’t have the time. What if he missed Van’s cousin Eric while he was chatting up the dark-skinned hottie who might be his potential new love?

There was no reason he couldn’t do both. All he had to do was go up to the man and talk to him while he kept a watchful eye for some guy who resembled Van. He’d always been a great multitasker.

Brody began his approach, and then he noticed the small problem that ruined everything.

The guy had a kid.

Jacob Z. Flores lives a double life. During the day, he is a respected college English professor and mid-level administrator. At night and during his summer vacation, he loosens the tie and tosses aside the trendy sports coat to write man on man fiction, where the hard ass assessor of freshmen level composition turns his attention to the firm posteriors and other rigid appendages of the characters in his fictional world.

Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, provide Jacob with inspiration for his fiction. The abundance of barely clothed man flesh and daily debauchery stimulates his personal muse. When he isn’t stroking the keyboard, Jacob spends time with his husband, Bruce, their three children, and two dogs, who represent a bright blue blip in an otherwise predominantly red swath in south Texas.

Blurb: Brody O’Shea isn’t looking for much, just a hot guy with a decent job, who is sane and doesn’t have kids.

Thommie’s Review:  3 1/2 Hearts

And Provincetown boys are back, this time with Brody O’Shea’s story. You remember Brody right? Teddy’s college sweetheart, the one who dumped him after a marriage proposal, the one who went after Teddy when they came across each other in Provincetown years later, the blond, green-eyed , overconfident, and Hollywood material hunk? Yep, that Brody is back.

And that Brody is obsessed! Like I need to be in a relationship with the “One” and I need to spend every freaking spare time searching for him. Obsessed as in I have a list of qualities the perfect man must have and I’m not going to compromise. Obsessed as in one date and if you don’t meet the list you’re thrown to the curb. Yep, Brody is in for a real treat because our dear author throws in his way the “Perfect Man” who unfortunately has a little baggage. It’s called a child and it’s not on Brody’s list.

Arrogant much? Definitely. Brody is the epitome of arrogance, shallowness, and plain old stupid. And it’s exactly the reason he intrigued me and enticed me into reading this book. This kind of main character is usually hard to write because you need to give him absolutions and make him likable at some point. Fear not, Brody might seem like the total jerk, but not long into the story you come to absolutely adore him. I certainly liked him far quicker than I did Nino in book #3 so that’s something.

What made me wonder with Brody though was how mature he really is. From the little glimpse I got of him in book three he had this “nice” quality about him, but it was definitely overshadowed by arrogance back then. Here and now though, he surprised the heck out of me not only with his intuition, but also with how optimistic he was about life. That more than anything made me like him, a lot.

Now his counterpart is Eric, Eric a widower and father of this incredibly little munchkin of a 9 year old girl. I’m going to take a break here and fan-girl about Eric’s daughter, a very important character in this story as she seems to be orchestrating most of the events that occur. Not only is she a little adult, he is a joy to read. She has lost her daddy, her grandparents, and is forced to see her papa become a zombie since Eric has literally stop living his life and devoted himself in an almost scary way to her. Maddie gives this entire read a push and a direction not seen previously on the prequels of Provincetown Boys. I loved her and I wish I can see more of her in future installments.

So back to Eric, okay, he is one hot daddy. He is sex on legs, he is adorable, he is mouth-watering. He is a more difficult character than Brody. He has serious, serious issues that has been in him for years, and while the story is fun, and is hot, and is sweet, and has a happily ever after that goes hand in hand with the previous books, it also shares the one constant of said books – with the exception of Gil Kelly’s story – the fact that every couple has one week to make it happen in Provincetown. I don’t mind it, I don’t, I know it as a fact for this series and I’ve accepted it, but – and it’s a big but – one week felt so, so little time for Eric and Brody. It kind of jumped on the other side of credulity, so for me this thing kind of hampered things down a bit.

However, looking at the big picture here, the story was fun, it was funny, it had enticing characters, and damn it was hot. As in sizzling hot… As in steaming hot… Seriously, Eric was one daddy I’d like to have, that kind of hot. He was the very picture of a man’s man, and Eric with Brody they made one hell of a couple. So in the end I had a most enjoyable time reading this book.  Well done and definitely recommended to all fans of romance.

Tams Review:  3 Hearts

Brody O’Shea and Eric Vasquez have both known their fair share of heartache. Brody had a tumultuous childhood that has left him slightly bitter. The certified playboy has sworn off one night stands in his search for that ever elusive one person to spend the rest of his life with. Eric could be the perfect guy for Brody, there is only one little problem, Eric’s nine year old daughter Maddie.

Eric’s husband, Maddie’s other daddy, died just a few years ago leaving Eric with the sole responsibility of raising their daughter. Devoting his life to his job and Maddie, the last thing he is looking for or expects is to fall in love. But he is so drawn to Brody that he can’t help himself. Eric is still reeling emotionally from the death of his husband though, that coupled with Brody’s revelation that he didn’t initially want to date anyone with children is a recipe for disaster from the start.

Can Brody get over his hang-up about guys with kids? And even if he can, will he be able to help Eric finally face the pain he has kept bottled up inside so that these two can have the future together they deserve?

It took me a little while to make my way through this book. The storyline in and of itself was promising, but I never felt a real connection to either Eric or Brody. What got me through this story was little Maddie, she was aboso-fricking-lutely adorable! Her little one liners and the way she was written as a young, old soul simply stole the book for me. I understood the issues that both men faced within the story, each having their own personal demons, but overall it didn’t flow well for me.

I’m giving this one 3/5 because even though I didn’t connect completely with the story, the writing wasn’t bad. And little Maddie herself deserves a star all her own! There are some really passionate love scenes sprinkled throughout, and there is something to be said about a couple that is strictly a top and a bottom, no versatility. I liked that aspect of their as well.

Blurb: Alpha wolf Enzo Carrara just woke up in an arena where he’s expected to fight and kill a wild and vicious panther to save his own life. The prize for winning? The gorgeous young man chained to the floor of the arena. He can’t remember exactly how he got there, but he’s not interested in a mate, especially one so young. Regardless, he will do everything he can to protect Danny in the arena.

Omega wolf Danny McKay was kidnapped after searching for his missing twin, and now he finds himself being given to an alpha, and expected to mate with him so that their captors can have a good show.

When Enzo wins again, Danny and Enzo can no longer deny the attraction that’s brewing between them. Even if this is only temporary, even if help is never coming, then at least they can comfort each other while fighting for their lives as slaves in a vampire’s nest.

Review: This is book nine in this series and they need to be read in order. It makes it easier to figure out who everyone is and what they are fighting for. Once you meet these wonderful characters, you will fall in love with each and every one of them.

Enzo can’t remember exactly how he ended up in a cage fighting for an omega, but he knows he will do everything he can to protect the man. The vampires threw him into the cage to fight a wild panther to save his own life as well as for Danny. The prize for winning is the ability to make Danny his mate.

Danny knew what was going to happen since he has been held captive for a while now. He had been kidnapped after searching for his missing twin. Now all he had to do is talk a certain alpha into actually mating with him. He thought that not only was Enzo the sexiest man he had ever seen but there was this pull to make him his. Although that was not how they take mates, it was what he wanted.

They had waited for Connor, Enzo’s alpha to come rescue them but there was problems on that end also. Now that Danny was pregnant with his pup, Enzo only had one way to get Danny safely out of this place and that was to give up his freedom. To sign a contract with the vampires was the only way for Danny and his pup’s freedom. Now Danny had a problem with that and a solution.
I would definitely be recommending this story to anyone who loves the paranormal world especially when it involves two hot men falling in love. This story has it all, two sexy men, werewolves, vampires, cage fighting, and lots of danger. I loved this story and cannot wait to read book ten. You will love this series once you start reading them.

Blurb: WHEN introverted doctor Ben Hardy’s high maintenance girlfriend wants to introduce a little more kink into their love life, he doesn’t expect it to come in the form of the hunky EMT who just moved to Blackwood. Ben’s not gay, but DAMN! He can definitely see why all the women turn to mush when the new guy is around. Baby blue eyes, flirtatious smile, body of an underwear model…

The prospect of being naked in the same room with him is horrifying. So why the hell is Ben actually considering it?
COREY Butler desperately needs to leave his shady past behind, and the microscopic town of Blackwood is just the place to do it. No drama, no danger, no sleeping under bridges… What he doesn’t need is a huge crush on someone who’s completely out of his league. When Dr. Hardy’s gorgeous girlfriend propositions him for a threesome, he knows the smart thing would be to say no.

Of course, it would. But then Corey’s never been known for making smart decisions.

Review:  Something about this novel makes me smile a lot. As I read it, I found myself intrigued and then some. Maris Black certainly knows how to write a good strong novel.

Ben Hardy is a strong, believable character. There is something about Ben that I cannot quite put my finger on but I like it. Corey is a fantastic character that shows how even a bad past can be gotten over. And honestly, I love how Maris shows the way of a threesome turning into something much more beautiful.

The storyline itself is so addicting and intriguing. You never expect to read a story of something so hot but Maris Black is not afraid to go “there” and show you a fun, good, hot time. Honestly, it is the kind of storyline that I hope to see something just as strongly of in her future novels.

There is something about Maris’s novels that always makes me want to buy them right off the bat. How intriguing, sexy, and hot they can be. How the author shows excellence in the knowledge of writing beautiful characters. And the sex scenes are hot as hell.

I would highly recommend Maris’s books with no problem.

Review: Short, Sexy and Steamy… my three favorite colors!

Andy is a former marine turned male stripper who has set his sights on the gay porn industry. The only thing he has to show for his time in the military are memories, some good and some not so good, and a severe anger management issue. On the night a hot-shot from one of the biggest gay porn studios comes to see Andy dance, he loses his temper, job and dreams all in one fail swoop. But the lithe, sexy little half Italian he wakes up to the next morning just might make it all okay.

Stefan has been coming to the club to watch Andy dance for weeks now, but Andy hasn’t really noticed him until tonight. They dance, they kiss and they share an insane attraction. Is Stefan the guy to make Andy forget about everything that is wrong in his life and focus on something good for a change?

I loved this little novella. I felt very connected with Andy, what he lost in the military and how he feels worthless in his life now. There wasn’t a lot of story for Stefan, other than him seemingly having this instantaneous connection with Andy, enough to make Andy question where he wants his life to go going forward. Just the right mix of an intriguing storyline and some steamy guy on guy action to make this a fun, fast read!

Review: A little bit odd, confusing, and sexy in a masturbatory kind of way. I think that Seth is a tease, and is almost a bit cruel to his friend. The alien voyeur aspect is a bit freaky, and the fact that the alien represents himself a lot like Adam is also uncomfortable. Maybe this story is making a statement, don’t’ worry about if anyone else loves you, at least love yourself??? Adam is a hermit after all, maybe alone way too much? This shorty is very surreal, very mind bending, and the sexual content is very dreamlike.
