Everything Tristan, Ushna, and Brian have fought for comes down to the moment they face Inanna and Marduk. Before then, Ushna must embrace his destiny and be transformed by Tiamat. But he returns with a fractured mind and will need the help of the new firebird or he’ll be lost to the insanity of a primordial God. If he’s lost, so is the balance Brian and Tristan sorely need.

Tristan has vowed to care for his ex-Flame, Theo Sullivan, who is doomed to forget more and more with each use of his new ability. When not dealing with his stubborn ex, Tristan must free the warriors stolen by the government and devise a trap for Inanna.

And that’s only the start of the challenges, and everything that can still go wrong.

Blurb: When Prince Leon disappears and his people are unable to find him, they turn to the dragons for help. Nyle is the unlucky dragon tasked with finding the missing prince, a duty he dreads as it forces him into the confounding human world and away from his collection of pretties.

Locating a missing prince should be a simple matter, but if Nyle has learned anything about humans since being forced out among them it’s that they needlessly complicate everything. When he finally locates the errant prince, however, what Nyle finds is a treasure worth all the complications—worth protecting at all costs.

Purchase Link:

Review: An’nanyle (Nyle) is the dragon tasked with finding the human prince, Leon. But, Nyle discovers that things have been kept from the dragon Elders, as he is swept away by the young prince, who he wants as his pretty.

This is a very enjoyable fantasy, with its combination of dragons, wolves, magi and humans. Nyle is a very innocent, three hundred year old dragon. When he is tasked with finding the human prince, he is not happy to be taken from his pretties. But, he finds a pretty that he wants even more. Leon may be a prince, but his situation keeps him from returning home. With Nyle, he can be himself and together they uncover the secrets that the human King is hiding; that will bring the humans, wolves and dragons together to fight a common foe.

Well, this is a well written story that has good world building, great characters and an enjoyable storyline. Nyle and Leon are great characters who pull you into the story and keep you reading. Nyle is not quite your typical dragon, because although he loves his pretties and his hoard, he likes to do things his own way and he is the first dragon to have sex in hundreds of years! Leon is a werewolf and his wolf wants Nyle as well as his human side, but I don’t really think it is in the instant mates’ sense, more like both wolf and human like what they see and they corrupt the innocent dragon all too well ;-).

I enjoyed learning about Nyle and Leon’s world and we learn about the by-play between the species and some of the background about each of species. The characters are charming and the interaction between them all was great and I loved the fact that all the personalities are so different; two of the supporting characters that I thought were great were Nyle’s hatch mother Gail and maybe (complicated) father Toel. The storyline has plenty of action and humor (Nyle and his pretties), but it also has plenty of snuggles as well, we get some hot sex and see a dragon and wolf fall in love quite quickly.

I have to recommend this to those who love fantasy, shifters whether their dragons or wolves, who enjoy a touch of danger, humor, hot sex, pretties and a happy ending.

Blurb: Nine gods ruled the world until the ultimate betrayal resulted in their destruction. Now, the world is dying and only by restoring the Lost Gods can it be saved.

The Kingdom of Piedre has been torn apart by feuding since the Basilisk was found dead. The Brotherhood of the Black Rose seeks to ensure the Basilisk is destroyed forever, while the Order of the White Rose searches desperately for a way to restore him.

The latest mortal incarnation of the Lost God of Death is Prince Culebra, the Basilisk Prince. Plagued by assassins, one lover dead and the other gone, Culebra spends his days in despair, painfully aware that his predecessors died only one of two ways: murder or suicide.

Purchase Link:

Review: Oh. I was so looking forward to this one and it was worth the wait. Culebra is the incarnation of the Lost God, Basilisk. He goes through life feared, hated and worshiped, never able to see, as his eyes are covered to prevent his deadly gaze from killing. But, now one of the Roses has him in their hands and the fate of the world rests in the hands of the lover he drove away; the Captain who comforted him, his kidnapper and his kidnapper’s closest friend.

A great re-written story based on the original blog story. The story-line may have changed, but the plot is still the same (well with one added addition). Culebra is still reeling from the shock and horror of listening to one of his lovers being killed by mermaids and driving his other lover away. When he gets a visit from Captain Midori (now a Lord), he begins to think he might be able to put the past behind him. Cortez is given little choice in the matter of kidnapping the Basilisk Prince and it leads to an outcome that nobody could have foretold. Dario was pushed away by Culebra after the death of Dario’s brother. Now, he has been kidnapped to force the prince to do as he is told. Fidel has also been kidnapped, as a way to force Cortez to do as the cult wants. Now, as they all come together, the actions of a few have terrifying repercussions that could affect the world.

Okay. After all that and getting all the main characters a mention, I’m tired *sigh*. Okay, I’m refreshed, so this installment of The Lost Gods saga has quite a bit going on and is separated to different character’s POV. Luckily, we don’t lose track of what is going on or what is happening to whom, and although there are five MCs it doesn’t lessen the enjoyment of the story. We have seen Culebra and Midori in previous books so we have a good idea of their back stories. Dario is the bodyguard who was also Culebra’s lover and also the brother to Culebra’s other lover (confused?). Cortex and Fidel are former members of The Brotherhood of the Black Rose. I will be honest, for more information you will have to read the book otherwise this review will be an essay!

Culebra and Dario’s relationship was torn apart when Granito died. The trouble they find themselves in pulls them back together and add a new third to their relationship. We get to see a bit of M/M/M and we also see some hot sex, but it is far from that important to the story; finding that Schatten (the country) and Teufel (the God Licht’s companion) is involved in the plot to harm the Basilisk prince is. We also see the Gods from the previous books as well.

Well. I recommend everyone read this book, but then I am bias, so I will just say this, if you enjoy kidnappings… well, multiply kidnappings, snakes, assassins turning good, earthquakes, sword fights, chases through the mountains, throwing ones-self over a waterfall and a happy ending then I recommend this book for you. And for those of you who read the original then this is definitely worth reading.

Blurb: Nine gods ruled the world until the ultimate betrayal resulted in their destruction. Now, the world is dying, and only by restoring the Lost Gods can it be saved.

In the land of Pozhar, the people fear the return of Zhar Ptitsa, the god of souls and rebirth who nearly destroyed them nine hundred years ago in a terrible rage. To prevent his rebirth, the people hunt down and sacrifice Vessels, those born with a piece of Zhar Ptitsa’s soul within them.

The Sacred Texts say that one thousand such Vessels will be born and all must be sacrificed to destroy Zhar Ptitsa once and for all. Now, only two pieces remain in the bodies of two thieves who will not go to the Flames without a fight.

Purchase Link:

Review: Oohh. What can I say to this one except Ooohhh? This is again a revised edition of an original that was posted on Megan Derr’s website and she has changed it up a bit so that even though it still has the original plot and characters the storyline is completely different. High Priest Dym has spent his entire life searching for the Vessels who carry pieces of Zhar Ptitsa’s soul. Now, finally there are only two left. Raz and Pechal are thieves and when the hunt for the new vessel begins Raz is determined that his friend will not be sacrificed and with the help of friends he sets out to avoid the sacrifices.

This is a brilliantly written fantasy that has mystery, intrigue, hunts, twists, danger and a couple of romances. Dym is in charge of the sacrifices to prevent the return of their God Zhar Ptitsa to Pozhar, but everything isn’t as it seems and a faction is trying to prevent the sacrifices from going to the Sacred Fire. Raz is one who doesn’t want to lose his friend to those fires, but even he ends up in danger when he comes face to face with Dym. There is a lot going on, as there are slightly overlapping stories as some actions in this book help with the progress of future books.

The characters in this book are great. There are quite a few of them and some of them are from future books which whets your appetite for those stories. we see Duke Krasny, Lord Ailill (a White Beast of Verde), Shio and Shinju (the mermaid sisters from the end of Treasure), we have new characters Raz, Dym, Zholty and Ivan and his gang and they make it an interesting story with quite a bit of action. Zholty is a sneaky character and is one to keep an eye on, but that isn’t to say that you should take your eyes off the others. There is again as always with Megan Derr inferred sex and we see the relationships building, but the focus is on the fantasy storyline. Can I say any more about this story? Well. Yes. But, then I might give it away and I would hate to ruin the discovery for you, so you really do need to read this book.

What can I say about this one except…damn? I have to read the next books in this series. For those of you who read the original then I say you have GOT to read this book, because there are some significant changes for some characters that will make interesting reading in the future books and it will be interesting to see how these changes affect books 4 and 5. And for those of you who haven’t read this book then what are you waiting for? If you love fantasy, danger, intrigue and a great storyline then you shouldn’t miss this book.

Blurb: While on Christmas vacation at a ski resort with his friends, Lasse expects only snowboarding and fun. What he doesn’t expect is Marko, who draws Lasse in and stirs feelings he never expected, feelings that Lasse is nevertheless more than happy to go along with.

Love is never easy though, and the fact that Marko is from another country is only one of the complications.

Purchase Link:

Review: Lasse and Marco meet while they are both on Christmas vacation. by the end of the holiday, Lasse and Marco are falling in love . But, Lasse is from Norway and Marco is from Finland and Marco’s brother (Armas) is hostile towards them.  Can Lasse and Marco make it work or will distance and Armas keep them separated?

This is a lovely little novella that warms your heart. Lasse and Marco meet and are attracted to each other.  They get to know each other and begin to fall in love, but Armas is against them being together and then they have the problem of distance when they go home.  They make plans and things seem to be going well, but then a drunken Armas confesses secrets to Lasse. Marco and Lasse are a really cute couple and they hit it off really well after Marco comes to Lasse’s rescue.

While this story of love is sweet and gentle towards Lasse and Marco, it has some darker undertones from Armas. His past leads to him acting like he does and it has an impact on both Lasse and Marco who try to handle the revelations with support towards Armas. Lasse’s friends are great and Marco’s family as well, who welcome Lasse with open arms. The sex between Lasse and Marco is a mix between passionate and loving and doesn’t let you down as you can nearly feel the lust and love that it is infused with.

With this one I will recommend this to those who love gentle love, overcoming distance and different countries, hot sex and a very happy ending. P.S. I am hoping Armas’s story is next as he really needs a happy ending.

Blurb: An ordinary rainy day at the Bremen is interrupted when a strange courier shows up with a package for Peyton Blue, the Bremen’s much-loved owner and bartender. When the package turns out to be a piece of Peyton’s past and brings that past violently into the present, it is up to Johnnie to resolve a years old problem and put the past where it belongs once and for all.

Purchase Link:

Even though this is classed as Dance With The Devil 04 this is actually a follow on from Dance In The Dark (DWTD 02) and DITD must be read first.

Review: A stranger leaves a parcel for Peyton, who then reacts badly to seeing it. Johnnie and Grim set out to get to the bottom of the mystery.

This is a great little short story for those of us who are fans of Johnnie and Grim. Johnnie and Grim come to the aid of Peyton when a parcel is delivered and a mystery begins. Peyton ends up being attacked by members of his former pack, as they look for the Alpha Candidate.  and the alpha candidate has fled them for a very good reason. Hudson has a good reason for fleeing his pack and with the Dracula upholding his laws, Hudson and Peyton might just be free.

Even though this story is for Peyton and Hudson and the start of their life together after the mystery is solved, this story is actually from Johnnie’s POV and it also gives us a glimpse once more into the lives of Johnnie and Grim. I must advise reading Dance In The Dark first, as that gives you the entire background into Johnnie and Grim. This story is a wonderful catch-up on what Johnnie and Grim are doing now and shows us that they are still helping their friends solve mysteries and Johnnie’s penchant for fairy tales.

I will recommend this to those who love paranormal, mysteries/sleuthing and a great ending for all involved.

Blurb: Tales of brothers, swords, and the men they most desire…

Main Gauche—Though he was born to nobility, the loss of first his father, and then his mother, has left Dagger a peasant. His stepfather is cruel and greedy, and refuses to claim Dagger as his own. Instead of living the life for which he was meant, Dagger spends his days as the apprentice to a blacksmith. He spends his days sharpening the swords of others, rather than practicing with his own. He pines for the life he does not have–and for the handsome lord who frequents the smithy.

Then the King calls for a tournament to show off his son, the Crown Prince. The chance to be a duelist again, to see the lord he so admires but can never have, is more than Dagger can resist…

1000 Victories—Epee loathes the noble life; his heartless father, his overbearing brother, the hypocrites he must call peers. He wants the simpler, ordinary life of a peasant. It is a life he is slowly working toward, and soon to hold in his grasp, no matter the consequences.

All that holds him back is Lord Sharp, the man he has long loved but never been able to win. But, he is very close to winning his thousandth victory over Lord Sharp in the dueling ring. With that 1000th victory, Epee hopes to win at last the man he loves more than even freedom…

The Perfect Son—Sabre has always lived according to the wishes and desires of his father, to the exclusion of everyone and everything else. His father’s eldest son, he strives to be what his father wants. He is affluent, educated, a talented duelist, respected, and feared. He is everything he is supposed to be.

Except happy.

Review: Megan Derr has again shown us what a wonderful touch she has with gentle romance. In this trinity of stories which starts with Main Gauche (which has a Cinderfella feel to it) we are treated to some wonderful feel good stories where anything is possible.

In the Main Gauche Dagger lives with his step-father and two step brothers, everything was taken away from him when his mother died and she trusted her husband to take care of Dagger, which never happened instead he is working at a Blacksmiths dreaming about one of the customers and of being a gentleman again. Katan is the Crown Prince and he is intrigued by the mysterious Main Gauche, he wishes to get to know the man after the competition but he disappears.

A wonderful feel good story, which is a wonderful rendition of Cinderella with a very heavy male view.

In 1000 Victories we have Epee who has had a crush on Sharp for many years, he set out to prove himself to Sharp but now a figure from the past has emerged to thwart him again. Sharp used to like Epee but an allegation ruined that friendship and now a day hardly passes without them dueling. When the past comes to light Sharp realizes what has always been in front of him.

An incredible story that shows the lengths that some men will go to, to capture the men they love.

In The Perfect Son we have Sabre who has thrown his life away trying to please his father but when his father forgets his birthday it is the catalyst that sets Sabre in motion to take his own life back. Lash meets Sabre at an Inn and sets about to seduce the man, they have a couple of perfect days before Lash disappears and Sabre returns to what was his life.

A great story that shows that love can be anywhere and can hit you unexpectedly.

These three stories are a treat to read as we get the stories of all three brothers from their own points of view, each finding love in his own way and overcoming the iron hand of their father and step-father to become the men they want to be. This one I will recommend to those who like regency-feel stories, happy endings and the more romantic side of love.

Blurb: The worst thing to keep from your lover is a secret…

Mallory is in love; his boyfriend Alex is all that he could possibly want, and the life they’re building together makes him happy—almost happy enough to ignore the fact that Alex is clearly keeping secrets. As close as they are, Mallory knows practically nothing about him. Alex travels a lot and frequently comes home smelling of blood and is reluctant to discuss his mysterious job. As Mallory has a secret of his own that he is loathe to share, he lets it go.

Until Alex comes home smelling strongly of magic, and Mallory’s need to know overcomes his desire to leave well enough alone and cling to happiness. But his need to know has unexpected consequences and puts both of their lives in danger…

Review: This is this author’s first published book and it is absolutely cracking. Mallory is beginning to wonder just who his boyfriend is.  Alex is secretive.  He disappears for days on end for work, he doesn’t talk about his past… in fact Alex appears not to exist, but Mallory doesn’t want to rock the boat. Alex has a good reason for his secrets. He doesn’t want Mallory involved, but Mallory started digging and now he is in danger.

This is an incredible story that has magic, action, violence, revenge, mistrust, love, happiness and some secrets. Mallory has a secret but he can’t tell anyone as it would put himself and his adoptive dad in danger.  his boyfriend has secrets of his own and Mallory keeps his nose out… until he gets suspicious and then all hell breaks loose. Alex wishes he could tell Mallory what he does but if Mallory doesn’t know then he’s not in danger.  but then the worse happens and now Alex has to rescue Mallory before it’s too late.

A really well-written, well-plotted and executed story that you find hard to put down once you are involved with the story-line. The secrets are put together nicely.  The action is realistic to the setting and the tantalizing glimpses of sex that we see are very well done. The love is there between the two MCs, but the trust has not been built, which causes problems between them. There isn’t much in the way of sex but the build-up is very hot and the actual sex is alluded to. There are a few darkish moments and some brutal violence and (for me anyway) a few light-hearted moments but none of it is overdone and they are just the right touch.

So, I will recommend this to those that love paranormal, were-wolves, were-lions, elves, magical weapons, magic, some really nasty baddies and a happy ever after that will make you smile.

Blurb: Nothing says Christmas like droves of the undead…

All Emery wants for Christmas is someone to share it with. It looks like he might finally be getting his wish in Ross, the sexy customer he’s been crushing on for months. But neither of them counted on the zombies, or on being caught in the worst blizzard in half a century. Even with a plan for contending with the zombie hordes, surviving will take a miracle.

It’s not exactly how Emery dreamed of spending Christmas with Ross, but he can’t think of a better way to spend a zombie apocalypse.

Purchase Link:

Review: Emery is alone, not just at work but in his life as well. Only now, he has dreams that involve one of the regular customers. Christmas Eve sees one of his dreams come true when Ross rushes into the diner and sweeps him off his feet… just not quite in the circumstances that he had hoped for. Ross is heading to the diner when the worst happens.   Now he has to reach Emery and get him to safety before they too become victims.  he has watched Emery for a while and this is so not how he wanted to ask him out.

A thoroughly enjoyable short story.  that may be short in pages but is more than large in its gruesomeness. Emery has had a crush on Ross for about three months and has been trying to work up the courage to ask him out. Ross has just decided to ask Emery to go out with him when disaster hits the city.  As the two men struggle to survive and to get to safety they reveal to each other how they feel.

This is romance in the middle of a horror story, which I found to be good. Although I really don’t want to know how the author knows what a head being smashed in sounds like (oh God there goes the gag reflex) or the other multitude of gruesome sounds that are described.  I really liked the action and I thought that the Zombies were coolly disgusting.  The quick relationship that is forged between Emery and Ross is well done and yes, it’s quick.  But they have been watching each other for months. The sex between them is hot, but it is more than just sex, it’s as though they are both celebrating being alive and having survived.

I have to hope (with fingers crossed and lots of begging if I have to) that Piper Vaughn will revisit this couple in future so we can find out how they are doing and to find out how the Zombies came to be. I have to highly recommend this one if you like Zombies, horror, lots of violence towards Zombies and a romance and hot sex in the midst of danger.

Blurb: Selsor’s only dream growing up was to be a mage, to bond with a warrior and drive back the monsters in the Territories, live the life his parents had so loved. His dreams falter, however, when he displays no magic despite possessing the ability to use it. His dreams are lost when, during an attack by bullies, he lashes out with uncontrolled magic and accidentally kills an innocent bystander. His jewels blackened, banning him forever from using magic, Selsor is thrown out to survive on the streets as best he is able…

Purchase Link:

Review: Okay, so this is a revised work of a previously free blog story with quite a few changes and it has made it even better. Selsor and Jenohn were both mentioned in An Admirer this is sort of a prequel and their story.

Selsor can’t work his magic; no matter how hard he tries and he is endlessly bullied because of it.   One day he lashes out by accident in an effort to protect himself and finds himself condemned and banished.   Three years later he finds himself a floor scrubber and hating his life. Jenohn is a Royal soldier who is on a mission to discover who is messing with the weather.   He remembers Selsor well and needs his help.

I must admit I love a good Megan Derr book as there is always something so enchanting and simple about her stories.  They are also about the story and the slight romance and not sex.  To be honest there usually isn’t much sex in a Megan Derr book and I have to admit that for some reason I prefer it that way.

This story is well written and it kind of has a medieval feel to it and the descriptions are well-formed and give you a really good picture of the area.   It has some danger, magic, a conceited soldier, an untrained mage and a happy ever after so I have to recommend this to anyone who wants a really good story and any of the above.
