Review: An intriguing story about Mystic detectives who hire Ilyas Bashour a human scholar to try to figure out about the missing humans. On his journey he meets Namir, a Jinn. It broke my heart to read that Namir had been abused. I shuddered through that portion of the story as no one deserves that.

llyas seemed kind and tried his best to help Namir with what he had been through. I was unsure as to what era or time period this story took place so it was a little confusing at times but still really good. I loved the chemistry between Namir and llyas as it seemed they were brought together when they needed each other the most.

The story seemed to draw the reader into a mysterious world that has amazing creatures as well a mystery to solve. I was cheering for Namir and llyas all throughout as I so hoped they could be happy together despite Namir’s past abuse.

Although I wish some scenes had been expanded to make them longer it was still a fascinating read. The overall enjoyment was good. I will warn readers that it does talk about past abuse on Namir’s part so be forewarned.

Good read.

Review: This is the first book I’ve read by Ki Brightly and as a story Threefold Love hits all the right notes to make me want to investigate the author more. It hot and steamy, it’s also sweet and loving, with a dash of angst and longing all thrown into one story.

As the name of the story implies, Threefold Love, sees the beginning sizzle of attraction as three men begin to see that there could be a lot more than a guilty fantasy. Xavier was a civil engineer in the army when he resigns his commission he tries to piece together his life and gets himself a job as a janitor at a private school. This is where he meets Andrew, a teacher at said school.

The two are instantly attracted to each other, but Andrew is with Duncan. After also meeting Duncan, Xavier finds himself attracted to both men.

The story is told from Andrew and Xavier’s perspectives, where Duncan is seen through these guys’ eyes. Part of me is a little disappointed that we didn’t get any Duncan POV at least once or twice through the book. There are a number of interesting things that pop up in the story which I wish were explored a bit more. For example, I hope this isn’t a big spoiler, but Duncan and Andrew are Wiccans.

A lot more could have been done there and let the reader explore this intriguing religion other than make them appear like Ghostbusters. The other thing is that Xavier admits to PTSD, but again this was hardly touched in the story. I point out these two specific examples because it seems like they are just there when they could have been woven further into the plot.

Regardless, the tension – both sexual and otherwise – is undeniable. These three guys together are just awesome. This is a fun read and if anything has left me wanting to know more about all three guys (as I just said above).

Blurb: When Quinn, the Supreme Alpha of all the Nine Territories first sees a young man in the arena, he is struck by his beauty and by the fact that despite his chains, he’s barely contained. Quinn recognizes him almost at once as the human who led an assassination attempt on him just weeks before, yet when he tries to take him into custody, he’s shocked to find the human is his fated mate.

He has only one option to keep the council from executing the young man for his crimes—to make an example of Aaron, and to debase and degrade him as his love slave so that none of Aaron’s followers will celebrate him as a martyr or a hero.

Aaron is on a quest to find his brother, separated from him during the plague that devastated the population, killing seventy percent of all the humans on the planet. When he gets word that his brother is among the rebels, he joins them too, hoping to find him. Instead he gets caught up in a failed assassination attempt on the Supreme Alpha, a strong, powerful wolf shifter who now has Aaron right where he wants him–at his mercy.

Despite his growing attraction to Aaron, Quinn has to try to keep his heart from getting too involved, and when another assassination plot is uncovered, Quinn has to make a difficult decision. He must put Aaron aside despite his feelings for him and imprison him, even though the mating bond between them means Aaron will suffer and die without Quinn.

And when Aaron disappears and word gets back to Quinn that he’s dying, he has to take a leap of faith to bring him home and back to Quinn’s bed where he belongs.

Review: This is the first book in the Supremacy of Wolves series. This story takes place after a vicious plague wipes out most of the human population leaving the wolves, who were immune to it, in charge. I did not like the wolves’ attitude toward humans and what I’d consider forced breeding of the humans. From what I got out the story the wolves thought they were better than the humans and treated them like pets to be used as they saw fit with no regard to what the humans wanted. If they did not do as told they were punished like they were children.

While I liked the overall story I had a few problems with it as well. Number one being the way the wolves treated the humans. It seemed as though it was reversed as to what the wolves had gone through so why would they treat the humans the same? Number two, Alpha Quinn really pissed me off.

I thought since he was an intelligent Alpha he would have actually done research into the bombing that killed several wolves instead of watching a surveillance camera seeing one man on it and assuming this man was the mastermind behind the event.

The way Quinn treated Aaron was so over the top I wanted to slap him. Their first sexual encounter was forced and Quinn used his wolves’ skills to make Aaron compliant in the matter. Which really made me mad because he was trying to make an innocent man pay for someone else’s crimes.

The third problem I had was that wolves have heightened senses. So why on earth did the Alpha automatically believe Bobbi, a human house-servant, when she told him her and Aaron had an affair?

Seriously?

Aaron was always watched and if they had slept together like she claimed then Quinn should have smelled it on Aaron. Not to mention in another scene the Alpha smelled Aaron while he was on his way to the bedroom but yet he didn’t smell if Aaron had sex with Bobbi? Highly unlikely. That part had me shaking my head in bewilderment.

Even though those things bothered me I still enjoyed reading about each character in the book and what roles they played in the story. Some scenes were nail biting while others were sweet.

Quinn was a little too arrogant and cocky to the humans as he thought of human like they didn’t know how to take of themselves at all and needed a master.

I really felt bad for Aaron for being put in a position as a scapegoat for the person who actually committed the crime. I totally understood his defiance and anger at the wolves for his predicament. Especially when he had a very good reason for being part of the rebellion in the first place.

Well written and intriguing. Overall it was a good read but could have been a lot better. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

They helped destroy the world. Now they have to survive the new one.

For rentboy Nico Fernández, it’s a simple job: seduce a presidential advisor to help cement approval to launch Project Juggernaut. He’s done similar work for General Logan McClosky before, and manipulating people for his favorite client beats the hell out of being trafficked for slave wages in some corporate brothel.

Zach Houtman feels called to work with the most vulnerable outcasts of society. But his father, the Reverend Maurice Houtman, insists that Zach work for him instead as he runs for Senate. Zach reluctantly agrees, but is horrified to see his father leave behind Christ’s mandate of love and mercy to preach malicious zealotry and violence instead. Zach even starts to suspect his father is working with fundamentalist terrorists.

When Project Juggernaut accidentally unleashes a deadly plague that claims billions of lives, Nico and Zach are thrown together, each bearing a burden of guilt. Review: Kyle is shy, reserved and timid. His best friend Marshall keeps telling him he’s a natural Sub, but Kyle has this pre-conceived notion of the BDSM lifestyle that has him adamantly denying Marshall’s claim. He’s quite good with his hands though, and wood (note the double entendre). With Marshall’s help, Kyle lands his dream job as the exclusive designer for the new BDSM club, Kiss of Leather, that is opening in town.

The minute Master Gavin lays eyes on Kyle, he’s pretty much done. It will take a lot of swooning, reassuring and promises to get Kyle to willingly submit to the lifestyle though. If there is one thing Master Gavin is, besides sex on a really tall stick, is patient. He sets his sights on Kyle to become his Sub, neither man realizing that they are about to get far more than they bargained for.

So, I’m constantly turned on to new things that I previously thought I didn’t care for. The softer side of the BDSM lifestyle is apparently one of them. What I enjoyed most about Gavin and Kyle’s story was the communication between them. Gavin is a very patient man, though Kyle tests that patience on occasion. Kyle is curious, very curious, which can be a blessing and a curse. Gavin graciously navigates Kyle through the rocky waters of a Dom/Sub relationship, molding and shaping him into the man he wants. He realizes somewhere along the way that part of the attraction to Kyle is not only his shy, constantly blushing nature. It’s his backbone made of solid wood. Kyle may struggle a lot, but he is not afraid to say no when he means it.

There were a few issues I had with the story, minor details mostly. I didn’t like that Gavin had Kyle call him Master even when he was at work. I thought that should have been a degree of separation between personal and professional lives. And then I had mixed feelings about the ending. Without giving spoilers, let’s just say I wanted a little more than what was there. That being said, I loved the vulnerability that both men expressed at the end.

Regardless, this was a fun read. I devoured it in just a couple hours, unable to set it down once I started. Knight has this definite flair for the BDSM lifestyle and I enjoy the way she writes it. She explains it in a way that conveys love and respect, not just pain and punishment. I’m a bit excited to see whose story will be next. I’d kind of like to see someone put a leash on Marshall; he’s got a mouth on him.

Review: What a hot mess….putting these two flawed characters together was either going to be genius or dangerous but it turned out maybe a bit of both. Through this series, Baz had always pulled my heart strings, though I did have sympathy for Elijah. The two together were explosive, passionate and at the same time tender and beautiful. Both these characters have a lot of secrets and a past to unveil.

I may be biased because I lurved the first two books in this series so much, but I will also admit to needing to do some musical research before spouting too much about Lonely Hearts. Now the Lonely Hearts reference I get, but I just didn’t put Elijah and Ru Paul together musically. So I did my homework, Supermodel brought back memories, but I had to give Sissy That Walk a thorough listen.

Maybe I wanted more anger and aggression from him, but what I got from this combo is that Eli really was just totally misunderstood. Elijah had some really good reasons and really terrifying experiences to build up that hard and thorny shell around his heart. I was really worried when he began to expose it for Baz.

Yes, I was rooting for the hard-hearted Eli to keep his armor. I’m a sick bitch, right? But sometimes it’s a survival mechanism that can do us good. Thank the muses, that Heidi gave Baz an even bigger pair of balls and a constitution to stand up to Eli despite his physical weaknesses, because they wound up being a perfect complement to each other.
This hot angsty story contains political machinations, a little less song and dance, and a lot more fast cars, drugs and sex. And did I mention big tender hearts and a giant romantic streak…..just when I thought it was Baz that was all romance….Eli surprises me.
But wait…one of the best parts….we get to visit with Ed and Laurie again!!!!!!! If you somehow missed reading Dance With Me, first….what the hell? And second, go grab that baby and read it. Preferably before Lonely Hearts, but if you don’t- read it anyhow and find out what you’re missing. All together with Walter/Kelly, Aaron/Giles, Ed/Laurie, and the ever increasing supportive community around them, Cullinan builds a world of good people. Those I hope would reflect me and my community. I’ll just overlook the fact that she names one of her villains Giselle. I love to read Heidi’s books because I’m drawn to heroes and heroines that have hurdles to jump, the under dogs that have to fight for happiness and win it! But the truth is, none of these characters should have to fight these odds for love, and it’s a lesson we can apply to our own communities. People misunderstand this genre, but the truth is it’s a mirror to our society, one that helps us examine the problems, reflect on our own issues and hopefully find solutions. Both Baz and Eli found a community that loved and supported them in the end, and that shouldn’t be a fairytale.

Review: Each book in the Gillham Pack collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I came across Catherine a few months ago and she has already established a spot in my favorite authors list. There is just something about her characters, story and the way they mix with each other. With this series I would suggest reading Whitedell Pride series book one first. You start there and then you will start seeing how all the characters cross over. I can’t stand to start a series and then it ends after a while. I want them to continue and it drives me nuts when they don’t. I am a big fan of these guys.

Zach knew when he was fourteen that Kameron was his mate. The problem was that in their pack it was not right for men to be together. Then his sister mated with one of the inner circle. Turns out that it was a bad idea and pretty much not hers. When she became pregnant Stan used his fears to control him. He feared for his sister’s safety and his mates. So he hid his scent and lived with the pain.

Kameron knew something was up, but he also remembered that Zach had left him. He had wanted to make him his mate even though they were not mated, but it isn’t until he saves Zach that the truth comes out. Things are about to get dicey and he needs to get over his fears of Zach taking off. The problem is there is still danger out there and they needed to keep everyone safe.

I would definitely recommend reading this book. Trust me it will keep you laughing, crying, loving and having fun.

Review: Aaron Wilkinson has spent the last several years trying to get past his break-up with Nik, his high school sweetheart. The two run in the same circle of friends and have found a way to co-exist around each other, but there are still feelings there, under the surface.

Aaron is in pain and he’s angry over having his heart broken by Nik, but most of all he’s angry at himself for still loving the guy. Nik, well Nik just wants to find his way back into Aaron’s life. But Aaron doesn’t trust that Nik won’t turn around and break his heart again.

Stuck in a rural lake house for two weeks while they plan their best friend’s wedding, Aaron and Nik are forced to face each other and the pain of the past. After the wedding bells ring and the toasts are made, will Nik and Aaron go back to New York together? Or go their separate ways?

There were things I really liked about this book, but I had a lot of issues as well. Aaron narrates the story and to say he’s a bit neurotic is an understatement. The story jumps in time a lot. From high school back to the present, then a couple of years back to a secret online blog Aaron writes, back to the present, back to high school, back to the blog and so on.

I had whiplash and sadly, I couldn’t always keep up. At one point I thought something was happening present day but it was actually another high school memory, I was very confused.

The characters rambled a lot as well. This book could have been written as a novella with about half of the conversations cut or shortened, the struggles the two ML were having with getting back together explored in more detail and this probably would have been a 4-5 star read.

Now, what I enjoyed. The relationship between Aaron and Nik, how they balanced each other out. They are opposites in almost every sense of the word, while Nik wants to dive head first back into the river of a relationship, Aaron puts the breaks on and faces the challenge of talking about what went wrong before, how they can avoid that in the future. The inner workings of their circle of friends. They were honest and angsty and supportive and I liked that camaraderie within the group.

This was just an okay read for me. If you are a younger reader this might be more appealing for you, it’s a new adult type of story. The content is R-rated, but the characters still have a lot of growing up today and it shows with how they talk and communicate.

Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.
The title of the book says it all. Carson and Ryan have been appearing in this series for a while as children and young teenagers. I always suspected they would tune out to be mates. I didn’t expect it happen the way it did, but I did enjoy their story. And I loved Riley, just so damn adorable.

This was a good fast paced book. I did kind of wish Carson made Ryan suffer a little more. But Carson is really too nice a guy to do that. Even if Ryan did deserve it. And let me say Carson and Ryan together are very sexy and just a little kinky.

I do like this series and this addition to it was long due in coming. I enjoyed this little read and look forward to more.

I especially want more of Maurice and little Riley. Just saying.

Review: Felix Cotter, a mixed shifter, works for Englemann Insurance. He is on the case of stolen jewelry. It was a fascinating story reading how Felix connected all the dots to find out who the culprits were and why they did it.

Tyler Panterone, a white panther shifter, was a sweet kind man who was forced into the situation he found himself in. I was furious at those that took advantage of him for their own gains. The way Felix and Tyler met was intense. The chemistry between these two was off the charts. Though both Felix and Tyler’s past were sad Tyler’s broke my heart. I could actually feel his loneliness and pain as recounted what happened to his family.

This was a story that keeps your attention from start to finish. With well written scenes that seemed to flow smoothly throughout. The only thing I did not understand was why Felix had no contact with Tyler for eighteen months. I thought he would have called, visited or something. I also wished it had been longer especially at the end. With the way it ended I hope there will be another book.

Other than those things I loved it.

It was a great read with some hot sex to add spice to the story.

Review: Dylan and Spencer meet and fall for each other under the strangest of circumstances. Spencer is working undercover trying to take down a Mafioso type family and Dylan is the targets friend and bodyguard. Dylan has been growing tired of Topher’s manipulations for a while, so when Topher pulls a gun on Spencer, Dylan steps in the way.

Over the next several weeks, Dylan and Spencer exchange phone calls and get to know one another better through long distance calls and occasional phone sex. When Topher’s sins fall back on Dylan and Spencer winds up sideways involved, Dylan will do whatever it takes to keep the man he’s fallen for out of harm’s way.

I was surprised by where the storyline in the book went, pleasantly surprised. There is a mystery that slowly unravels and I was kind of on the edge of my seat throughout. I loved the chemistry between Dylan and Spencer, but Grace also took the time to let them get to know each other before they fell into bed, and eventually in love.

They were sexy and passionate and sometimes surprising with where they went intimately speaking.

This is the first book I’ve listened to with this narrator and he wasn’t half bad. There were a few characters that had the same vocal tone, so that was a little confusing, but the main characters all had their own voice, so he is forgiven. I’ll be looking for more of his work, that’s for sure.

If you are looking for a short, suspenseful, sexy story then this one is a must read.

Review: There are two things that made me instantly love this book. Firstly, I am a big fan of Shawn Bailey’s writing – it is uncomplicated, not at all fussy and the characters are full of soul. Secondly, the book is set in San Diego and after a recent visit to the city, I absolutely love it. (The book is set within “the gay neighbourhood”, Hillcrest, and it is a beautiful area of San Diego).hillcrest

Yes, this is Hillcrest, San Diego.

My adoration for San Diego aside, the story is about Madison and Alexis. Madison is a young widow who moves from Boston to San Diego. His boss, Bill, finds Madison an apartment in Hillcrest by simply asking his brother if the apartment building he owns has any vacancies. Madison has a number of issues and is unsure of himself.

He’s only ever been with one woman and his experience with men, he at least knows he’s gay, is just as limited. However, he also has a very cute and very smart little 6-year-old boy, Scotty. It’s not quite love at first sight but Alexis knows right away that Madison could be the one for him. Madison may be lonely but throw in Alexis’s crazy and big family, it makes the story an absolute joy to read.

Alexis and Madison are quite contrasting characters. As I just said, Madison is lonely and Alexis has an over abundance of family with loving parents and six brothers. Both men are quite high achievers, but Alexis is not so obvious in terms of his success. He tries to come across as somewhere between the starving artist and the surfer dude, when he is all that as well as a teacher and land lord.

Madison is the struggling single dad that is successful in his career and yet would do anything for his son. However, all in all, both have a heart of gold.

This is a sweet story – if anyone likes the whole coming together as a family type book, this is excellent. The story itself is a slow burn and in the end does not disappoint. In the end that is what this is about, two guys trying to figure out their place in life and their place in each other’s lives.

Blurb: They helped destroy the world. Now they have to survive the new one.

For rent boy Nico Fernández, it’s a simple job: seduce a presidential advisor to help cement approval to launch Project Juggernaut.

With only each other for safety and solace, they must make their way through a new world, one where the handful of people left alive are willing to do anything—and kill anyone—to survive.

Review: Nico Fernandez is the son of the most powerful Sanctioned Madam; he is also her most valued employee. Nico sees how the people who don’t have the opportunities he has suffer and he truly wants to help any way he can. Poverty is prolific and Nico is spared that type of life, until he unwittingly helps a family friend, also a sometimes lover, unleash the virus that now plagues humanity.

Zach Houtman is the son of the most powerful Zealot in this post-apocalyptic world. As a former minister turned politician, his father spouts nothing but hate and venom at anyone that doesn’t conform to his ideals and beliefs, including his own son. Zach turns a blind eye for years, until his father pushes him too far. Zach and Nico become companions due to circumstance. They become lovers by choice. But the society and the unholy virus that is slowly wiping out humanity has other plans for these two, that is, if they survive.

Juggernaut shows us how the plague in the story Strain started. Gormley paints a vivid picture of a society on the verge of breaking down, even before the virus takes hold. War, poverty, lust, greed and a thirst for power pale in comparison to the Juggernaut virus that turns man against each other. Society is already on the verge of breaking down, even before the virus. When you have a base reality of people who are hell-bent on destroying each other, playing God usually backfires, and that’s exactly what happens here.

I thoroughly enjoyed this look back into the history of the Jugs. How they came to be the super soldiers and protectors they are. You’ll not only learn how the Strain started but you get to see a little bit of the reasoning behind certain aspects of Strain that you may have questioned or misunderstood. The relationship between Nico and Zach was a little too simple for my taste, especially if you’ve read Darius and Rhys’s story prior to this one. But I’m very excited to see what Gormley brings to the table with Bane, the next book in this series.

If you like dystopian stories then this is a must read for you. It’s one of my favorite genres, so when new books release in the genre I’m usually standing on top of the buy now button waiting for them. The story itself, the world this is set in is very post-apocalyptic and though it’s not as prevalent in this book, it has a zombie edge to it as well. If you haven’t read Strain yet, you won’t be lost. But if you think that was a cliff hanger, go straight to Strain to answer some of your questions.
