Twenty-one days.

Review: This is the second book in the Immemorial Year series and continues where the first book left off.

In this story Cavalo attempts to convince the people of Cottonwood to rise up and fight Patrick and his deadly rabbits. The townspeople are scared and frightened, yet they are tired of it as well.

Lucas and Cavalo grow closer as the story progresses. There are some intense fight scenes as well as some scenes that caused me to shed tears at the waste of human life. I hated Patrick with a passion and felt he was totally insane with the atrocities he committed.

The most heart-breaking scenes were when we learn of what happened to Lucas, and Sirs decision near the end. Both made me cry. I felt that what Lucas went through was unimaginable and could not believe someone who was supposed to love him did that.

I loved all the details and the planning the group did to prepare for vicious battles. Though not all went according to plan it was still effective to a point.

This story will have you on the edge of your seat all throughout. Fantastic book and I highly recommend it.

When interior designer David Snyder buys a beautiful century-old house in eastern Washington, he is reeling with heartbreak and looking for somewhere to put down roots. Unfortunately his new home comes with a laundry list of problems: electrical, plumbing, heating… things David knows nothing about. When his mother offers him the business card of a local handyman, David pictures an overweight, balding man in his fifties. But Jackson Henry couldn’t be further from that stereotype.

Dark-haired, muscular, and handsome, Jackson left a large construction firm in Seattle to take care of his sick mother. However, his hometown still has an active “good old boy” network, and finding employment in construction is almost impossible for an openly gay man. Determined to persevere, Jackson takes odd jobs as a handyman. He’s exactly what David needs—in more ways than one.

David isn’t ready for his attraction to Jackson, not considering the way his last relationship ended. But as the two men get to know each other, it becomes clear that the heart often knows best, and it rewards those willing to listen.

Return to small-town Sylvan in Jan Irving’s bestselling series—reimagined and re-edited with an all-new bonus novella.

The small Western town of Sylvan is a place for new beginnings for those who won’t settle for anything less than true love. These sweet tales of slow-simmering romance and the old-fashioned values of commitment and pulling together when times get tough prove that sometimes the best matches are also the most unexpected.

With the help of a storm, a washed-up Olympic swimmer and a carpenter cracking under the strain of caring for his Alzheimer’s-affected father learn that opposites sometimes really do attract.

A likable cowboy called Happy Nate is determined to help a mute boy speak again—and to help his father move beyond the repression of the Mennonite community to find the love he deserves.

When a hard-partying cowboy is suddenly saddled with a surprise baby, he’s at his wit’s end. Luckily the local doctor is available to help, and if the two men can find the courage to accept themselves and step into a new life, they might just make a real family. They’ll need to lend each other strength when an unspeakable tragedy strikes—and when it’s time to pick up the pieces.

Review: Day takes over as manager for the Iron Eagle Gym. He needs help and so hires Saw. Saw lost his master to a terrible car accident and as a result thinks himself as bad luck. It will take a strong man to push through Saw’s barriers and make him see that accidents happen and Saw is not bad luck.

I really liked this story. Day’s persistence in pursuing Saw despite Saw’s reservations was awesome. The way Day was steadfast and determined was admirable.

I really felt bad for Saw. The way he felt about himself was heartbreaking. I loved that slowly but surely with Day’s help Saw became the man I knew he was.

These two characters were made for each other. Both were kind and caring toward the other as the story progressed. It showed that despite others reservation that good can come out of bad situations.

Loved it.

Review:  I absolutely adore Andrew Grey, and what is better than reading an Andrew Grey novel? Well, that would be listening to it! Round and Round is the fourth book in Grey’s series Bronco’s Boys and although I’ve read the three previous books this is the first one that I’ve heard the audio book for. Although honestly, I think this could also be dealt as a standalone book where the characters from the previous books pop up here and there to be there for their buddy, main character Kevin.

The story opens when there is a fire in the club Bronco’s where Kevin is. Kevin becomes the hero by managing to get rid of most of the flames and thereby saving the club owned by his friend’s partners. It is here that he meets fire fighter Angus MacTavish – aka McDreamy Hotness for the first few chapters. The two get to know each other and get involved with each other as the story goes along, where it quickly becomes clear that Kevin has become the arsonist’s target for his sick and deadly games. The relationship and baggage that these guys have to deal with feel so real and is just so easy to get lost in. But I have to admit that at a couple points in the book things lulled a bit too much for my liking before the pace picked up again.

Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get wholly on board with Michael Pauley’s narration. For the most part it was good and he did hit the emotions spot on. He did Kevin’s voice brilliantly and he was really good with the breathlessness and sobbing when it comes to passion. But, unfortunately, I found his “Scottish” accent a little annoying. Don’t get me wrong, I loooooove me a Scottish accent. I’m a sucker for red hair and a Scots accent. Hell, I once signed up to donate money when I had no income because of a Scottish accent. However, sometimes it just felt too comical and I felt it took away from the seriousness of the plot.

Overall, this was not only a great end to a book series but it was also an enjoyable and relaxing read for the most part. Fans of Andrew Grey will be happy to listen, albeit probably a little disappointed with the conclusion of the series. If you like your fire fighters hot I think you could definitely give this one a chance.

Review:  I am not going to make it a secret – I absolutely adore TJ Klune, I love how he can make you laugh so hard for the entire length of a book also make you feel feels that give you the “Wookie cry face”. How to be A Normal Person does exactly that! Of course, I have to add that the brilliant narration by Derrick McClain is just spot on and pulls all the right emotions and his tone is so perfect as the voice of main character Gustavo Tiberius.

Ok, yes, I did read this book when it came out but for me the audiobook just elevated the story to an entire other level. Gustavo Tiberius is a bit of a “Grumpy Gus” and has exactly zero social skills despite having the friendship of some rather quirky characters including 3 elderly ladies who are either in a lesbian three-way or are sisters (and the only members of the town’s vespa gang) and Lotte who owns that coffee shop down the street. His one link to the world, his father known to everyone as Pastor Tommy died of cancer a few years ago. He runs his father’s video rental store, which Gustavo only can get by because he happens to also be the land lord to much of the town’s shops – another part of his father’s legacy.

Then one day Casey shows up. Casey is a stoner hipster that makes me think of Shaggy from the Scooby Doo gang and brings to mind the line from Star Wars “…half-witted, scruffy looking nerf-herder” as the perfect description. Casey is the exact opposite of Gustavo – he loves social media, he loves people… he also happens to be a famous author. In many ways, I think that Casey is much like Pastor Tommy (who was also a stoner) and supports the old proverb that you look for a partner with the same personality of your father/mother, depending on your sexuality.

With Casey showing up, Gustavo starts to learn more about himself and his feelings. And that is where the title of the book comes into play: How to be a Normal Person. To be with Casey, Gustavo thinks that he needs to research and go through the steps to be a normal person so that Casey would be attracted to him. It seriously made me want to cry for Gus, but then again that is the message of the book – it’s ok to be yourself, even if you an anti-social realist who doesn’t have the internet or a smart phone, or if you are an asexual stoner hipster who can hastag like nobody’s business.

As a bit of a teaser, while some of Gus’s flash backs to conversations with his father are both sweet and at some points very sad, they were also quite funny. Then there are the “recorded phone calls” with his internet provider – OMG, so funny, I loved the book for those few bits of dialogue alone.

Fans of TJ Klune will not be disappointed, to those that don’t know TJ Klune – you need to get onto it. The well paced and well developed story hits all the emotional highs and lows that all I can say is I recommend this to everyone who loves MM romance!

Review: Hiding in Plain Sight is the sequel to Ethan Stone’s 2014 book, Vegas Hustle. To be completely honest, I did not realize that this was a series until it came to looking up information for this review, so this does easily read as a standalone without missing details that scream “go back to book 1”. I was really torn when it came to rating this book. I wanted it to be a 4, but there were some things that I could just not overlook and in the end settled on my 3.5 heart rating.

After being apart for ten years, wealthy Adam Brand gets a call from the ex who broke his heart, Javi. Javi who was a hustler and now an escort left Adam 10 years ago after a harrowing experience together in Vegas where Javi saved Adam because he believed that he was holding Adam back from going to college, etc. Something that really didn’t need to happen if only the two guys actually communicated, but I won’t get into that because that was not a problem.

Now living home in Portland with his father still, Adam is in his early thirties and still not really over Javi. This is evident when he think that he sees Javi in an upscale restaurant and his best friend, Cory, starts harping on about Javi being the scum of the earth. But the truth is Javi is in Portland as part of his job as an escort to wealthy men, he actually lives in Washington but a couple of clients bring him to Portland and in the orbit of Adam. When one of his clients is murdered while the two men were sleeping, Javi turns to the one man in his life he has ever trust – Adam. And Adam comes to the rescue.

Ok, so I need to say this, I really enjoyed the book. I loved the sexual tension between Adam and Javi, it was clear that these guys belong together. I loved the mystery, the thriller and the suspense of the overall plot. The plot and character development, as well as the pace of the book, are exactly spot on.

I just have a couple of issues: I was really annoyed by the vigilante justice where Adam basically shuts out the police to solve the crime. It also annoyed me that the police detective so happily went along with getting information from Adam without thinking of implications for when it came to court. Was it his wealth and influence that allowed it to be accepted? I’m not sure, probably, but it did annoy me.

Another big thing that got to me was the conspiracy theory “woo-woo” about “Big Pharma”. Once I read the ridiculous line “it won’t make money to cure people so Big Pharma will never sell it”, I was thoroughly disappointed being that I know the nature of the scientific process I found a lot of that part unbelievable. Seriously, every scientist especially those working for companies have to have their notes accessible and in a form that can be audited upon request. However, I will admit that I found the stuff about the religious Russian sect, Prava, quite interesting.

As for the ending, although it was satisfying, I really do wish that there had been more to it. All the loose ends were tied up quite nicely. I’m just being greedy and want to know more. It also leaves me wondering if one of the minor characters might get his own story and a chance at a happily ever after.

Blurb: Mitch Montgomery should be happy. He’s just got his own apartment with his best friend from high school, Josh Connors, recently landed a job at IGNITE, the coolest and gayest gym in town, and his new neighbor is hot, hung, horny, and above everything else, interested.

So why isn’t he…. happy?

It’s because he thought that by now his life would be way better. Instead of attending a crappy community college, Mitch should be at a big name school busy being Big Man On Campus and scoring touchdowns, not wiping down lockers and giving workout advice to wannabe gym dudes. This was not the way it was supposed to be. But a devastating knee injury during his junior year ended all of his hopes and dreams of ever going pro.

Austin Grey is gorgeous. Everybody wants him, but he only wants Mitch Montgomery who recently moved in across the way. Austin has a problem. A big very problem. He used to be… fat.

While in high school, Austin was an outcast, unpopular and bullied. After graduation he vowed to leave the fat boy behind and become the wet dream on legs he is now. Easier said than done. While working on his outer self, he neglected his inner self, and he can’t seem to accept the new person he’s become no matter how hard he tries.

All on the same city block, the boys of Banana Court learn to love, live, and sometimes lose as they strive to have a little fun along the way.

Review: This is a fun and quick read. It’s one of those no stress, relaxing type of books that you can only get angry at if you want more melodrama or whatever. Really, the whole premise is just a bit of fun – young, gay college students just trying to get by between work and school and maybe throw in a love life in between all of that. It’s really a few hissy-fits away from being a gay soap opera.

Obviously, this story follows Mitch and Austin. Mitch and his best friend since school, Josh, find an apartment together in Banana Court where they are surrounded by like minded young men. It is there where Mitch meets one of their new neighbors, Austin.  Mitch doesn’t realize it at first, but Austin was a year level above him and Josh, and is quite unrecognizable because he has lost quite a bit of weight and has basically become some sort of Adonis.

That is essentially the main guts of the story. There is nothing super involved, which is why this is such an easy and enjoyable read. This is one of those books that is great to read after you have just gone through a particularly harrowing book and your poor little heart that takes fiction too seriously needs time to recover.

Totally enjoyable with some really hot sexual tension and sex, Alex Carreras does not disappoint with a sexy story with a HEA.

When Thaine wakes up in the hospital after a bull-riding injury, he immediately asks for his lover, Jerry. He has no idea who this man next to his bed is, despite the fact Drew insists they have been an item for the last five years.

Thaine’s best friend, Jesse, calls Jerry. He thinks it’s a pretty crappy thing to do to the new boyfriend, but tells himself it’s unlikely Jerry will come after so many years. He also doesn’t get why Thaine would pass up the opportunity to be with Drew since he’s young, optimistic, and hardworking. In short, everything Jesse ever wanted in a man.

Jerry still carries a torch for his cowboy, so when Thaine asks to go home with him to recover, Jerry agrees. At first they pick up their intense physical relationship right where they left it before the breakup. Review: Amnesia by Sean Michael, I have to admit, is pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. In many ways it’s a relaxing read because from just reading the blurb I figured out what was going to happen, i.e. who ends up with whom. For me Sean Michael books go into 2 categories – “love it” or “hate it”, or perhaps more accurately, because I rarely fully outright hate a book, “I can’t put it down” or “can’t keep my interest”. Obviously, considering I’ve given this a good rating, this one falls into the former category.

There are four main players in this book: Thaine (who has amnesia after falling a bull), Drew (the current boyfriend Thaine has no memory of), Jerry (the ex that Thaine thinks they are still together) and Jesse (Thaine’s best friend who wants to protect him from Jerry – who is selfish – yet has feelings for Drew). I honestly think if you’ve read the blurb and read this you have already figured out what happens. For me, though, I am a sucker for the melodrama that comes from the whole amnesia thing and the ex boyfriend swooping in the save the day.

Two things that did piss me off that, however, were all about Jerry. 1) He was an arsehole. Simple as that, but thankfully there is such a thing as character development. 2) When he and Thaine initially broke up 5 years earlier he really didn’t try and so really, Thaine was better off with him. But Amnesia is really all about second chances, because people can change when they have their own epiphanies. In fact, all the characters see things from a different light when their lives are changed the day Thaine are almost killed during competition.

Amnesia, I think, will be a guilty pleasure for anyone who loves the melodrama of amnesia and life or death situations. Also, for anyone who loves a cowboy, you will not be disappointed. In fact, I found myself falling just a little bit in love with Thaine and Jerry… and I find myself wanting to know more about Jesse and Drew.

Review: This is a super short and super enjoyable serving of romance from Cardeno C. Under two hours in length, this is the type of sugary perfect romance that is great when you’re commuting. There is nothing hard hitting going on and not a lot of angst or drama, so you can just relax (or concentrate on the road if you’re driving) as you listen to the story.

The story follows Hollywood heart throb Ethan Baker, who just can’t work out why his personal life isn’t working outside of his friendship with childhood BFF, Jude Harrison. It’s a light, fluffy trip down memory lane fuelled by a touch of fantasy that either really happened or could be caused by some worrying medical issue which is not at all part of the story. This isn’t some sort of insta-love, this is a dawning realization of what really lies between two best friends and the sacrifices that they have made for each other.

I have to admit this is probably now my favourite story by Cardeno C because for me it had all the vital elements fitting together in such a short story. As much as I would have enjoyed a longer story I think what we got works well. It’s just so damn satisfying to read. Throw in John Solo’s great narration, I’ve heard him narrating both Stormy Glenn and Andrew Grey in the past and I have never been disappointed by his narration. OK, so right at the end of this he pronounced dolmades as “dole-mades” not “dole-ma-des” and that has been plaguing me because I have some in the fridge at the moment, but I’ll live.

Review: I’ve read a few Tamsin Baker books in a matter of weeks and I have to say that I quite enjoy the stories. They are simple and to the point. This story will draw a lot of people because the MCs are the two dreamiest occupations when coupled with sexy men – fireman and a doctor.

Obviously the titular, Dr Zach, is the doctor of this piece. He’s an emergency room doctor who got to where he was because of his dedication to his study and his career. And that is not unexpected for a doctor, really. Through his fire fighter brother, Zach meets Dylan and at first treats him at the fire station when Dylan refuses to go to hospital. The two of them give into the sparks and hot sexual tension between them. The story then becomes a tale of two guys getting to know each other, having hot sex and trying to reconcile their personal and professional lives.

Despite the fact that I enjoyed this book, there were a number of issues that did come up in the course of the book. I think I found comfort in some of the Australian-isms that came up throughout the story. But then, right at the end there was mention of a road trip to Vegas – wait, what? Are they road tripping to Brisvegas (a name given to Brisbane, Queensland to pay them out)? This book really needed to have the setting specified if the author was to write in their native tongue, so to speak. If we had known from the outset that we are town X, USA it would have been easier to swallow.

The other thing was that the main fight that happened between them, and there were a couple other spats, but it was all down to frustrating miscommunication and me trying to figure out how they could not understand each other’s schedules. However, I did see the cause for the conflict well enough, it was Zach’s devotion to his work over his life, and that could have probably been explored better.

Over all, the story was enjoyable, just take it on face value and you will find that this is a fun way to pass some spare time.

Blurb: After last season’s heartbreaking loss to his hockey team’s archrival, Jacksonville Sea Storm goalie Riley Hunter is ready to let go of the past and focus on a winning season. His roommate, Ethan Kennedy, is a loud New Yorker with a passion for social justice that matches his role as the team’s enforcer. The quieter Riley is attracted to Ethan and has no idea what to do about it.

Ethan has no hesitations. As fearless as his position demands, he rushes into things without much thought for the consequences. Though they eventually warm to their passionate new bond, it doesn’t come without complications. For their relationship to work, Ethan will need to learn when to keep the gloves on and let someone help him—and Riley will have to learn it’s okay to let someone past his defenses.

Review: Save the Game is the second book in Avon Gale’s series, Scoring Chances. It is fun, sexy and fully of hunky hockey players – so it’s got a winning formula already. You probably don’t need to read the series in order as they can be read as standalone novels.

The story follows teammates on ice hockey team, the Jacksonville Sea Storm, Ethan and Riley. We see both the characters and the team grow as we see another couple start to form in the sidelines for the Sea Storm. Ethan was recruited to the Sea Storm from New York and he is very much an out there sort of character in more ways than one. Then there is Riley. He seemed to have a bit of a chip on his shoulders in the first book but this guy is like an onion – he has layers and it is clear from the get go that Ethan and Riley do have the beginnings of something special. And the minor characters – including the Sea Storm and even Ethan’s family play a big and very enjoyable role in proceedings.

Yes – you can see I enjoyed this book but there were a couple of reason why I could only give this book an average rating.

  • Ok, so a bit of a spoiler but this is more a warning about something I know a lot of people dislike in their MM fiction – one of our main characters has sex on page with a woman (pretty much at the beginning of the book). While that works in some cases this is one of those times when I thought it was unnecessary to have it happen on page. Ok, one of the characters does have problems coming to terms with his sexuality but for me it didn’t fly.
  • While the characters were very well developed the plot was sometimes a bit plain and the pace was rather slow for the first two third of the book. The story never really fell flat but I suppose that there wasn’t enough excitement to hold my attention.

This is the type of book for people that love a good dose of MM romance with their ice hockey, though if you prefer sweetness over action this would probably be more the book for you. It also goes without saying that fans of the first book in Scoring Chances should also give this a go.

Declan had never met the kid who was to be his joint best man.
Sam Aiken was abroad, working as an interpreter and finishing his studies. He wouldn’t meet Declan until a few days before the wedding, so the best men communicated and planned their speech by email for more than a year.

But on meeting Sam Aiken, Declan is surprised to realise the kid isn’t a kid at all, but a tall, blond and athletic young man. Declan is alarmed by the ferocious attraction he feels for Sam. And as the attraction is reciprocated, the events at Dunloch Castle change everything Declan has ever believed about himself.

But is Samuel Aiken all that he appears to be?

Pulled into a world of secrets and lies for the man he loves, Declan Ramsay’s life has changed immeasurably in the eight months since meeting, and falling for his boss’s son, Sam Aiken.  Declan journey of personal discovery is about to take a darker turn, and for Sam, the world becomes more treacherous than he could ever have imagined.

Two agents are missing — presumed dead, while on a reconnaissance mission at an outdoor adventure centre in the Scottish Highlands.  Sir James Aiken sends his son and Declan to follow the trail, and discover the fate of the agents.

As the mission offers his first chance to use the skills he learned on the MI6 training course in Morocco, Declan is keen to get started. However, Sir James sees to it that the seeds of doubt and discord have been sewn between the couple, as they begin their mission.

The journey to their Highland location, and the discoveries they make when they reach the G’wan Adventures centre, prove that Sir James Aiken has been less than honest with his son.  Events in the Highlands force Sam and Declan to face their greatest fears, and understand what they both really want from life — and from each other.

The struggle is real.

Nick Stahlnecker is eighteen and not ready to grow up yet. He has a summer job, a case of existential panic, and a hopeless crush on the unattainable Jai Hazenbrook. Except how do you know that your coworker’s unattainable unless you ask to blow him in the porta-potty?

That’s probably not what Dad meant when he said Nick should act more like an adult.

Twenty-five-year-old Jai is back in his hometown of Franklin, Ohio, just long enough to earn the money to get the hell out again. His long-term goal of seeing more of the world is worth the short-term pain of living in his mother’s basement, but only barely.

Meeting Nick doesn’t fit in with Jai’s plans at all, but, as Jai soon learns, you don’t have to travel halfway around the world to have the adventure of a lifetime.

This is not a summer romance. This is a summer friendship-with-benefits. It’s got pizza with disgusting toppings, Netflix and chill, and accidental exhibitionism. That’s all. There are no feelings here. None. Shut up.

Blurb: A Fairy Tales of the Open Road Novel

Modern-day fairy-tale princess Taylor Hatfield has problems. One, he’s a guy. Two, he’s an insomniac Sleeping Beauty. Three, his practically perfect brother, Atticus Hatfield, this generation’s Snow White, has been irrevocably corrupted by the Witchking. The Library, a clandestine organization, seeks to write “The End” on Atticus, and Taylor is given the impossible task when his own parents endorse his brother’s demise. With his true love, the huntsman Corentin Devereaux, at his side, they once again set out to find Atticus, but Atticus won’t go down without a fight.

The quest ends how it began. But instead of the quirky, corkscrewing Americana road trip, Taylor and Corentin must contend with the dangers of the urban jungle. With an unexpected ally at their side, they’re forced to question all they know about the legacy of Snow White.

As the world of the Enchants and the mundane hang in the balance, Taylor knows what he must do: go pick an apple.

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order.

Okay, so we re-join Taylor and Corentin in Lex Chase’s completely off the wall Fairy Tales of the Open Road series (aka Screw-up Princess and Skillful Huntsman), now you can’t just pick this story up and join the series (because it would be a serious mind fuck) you have to read this series from the beginning to even have a clue what was going on and to understand what’s happening.

Being honest I’m completely flummoxed on how to write this review, because everything that’s happening in this book is the result of what happened in the previous books… *shakes head* bloody Atticus. Okay I’ll give it my best shot!

After Atticus steals The Book from the Library Taylor and Corentin are given the task of finding a certain object that will finally bring an end to Atticus’ reign of terror, but they have to work with Idi the Witchking (who is Atticus’ true love) and then the journey of ‘OMG what the hell is going on’ begins. Hmmm yeah Lex Chase takes us on yet another journey with Taylor and Corentin that is just too crazy for words.

So loads of ‘huh’ moments, quite a few ‘what the hell’ moments and several ‘bloody Atticus has lost his freaking mind’ moments. This is an amazing story that has so many things going on/ overlapping that you can just keep the thread of the story while personally wishing you could get your hands on Atticus and shove the ‘certain object’ down his throat yourself.

There’s plenty of danger, lots of more danger and some more danger to boot, there some shocking betrayals, a couple of Wandering Path journeys, seeking help from a troll, facing The Emeraldine Beast, and the final showdown. There are twists and turns, ducking and diving, hunting and hiding and just… hell I told you it would be hard to describe.

This is a fantastic story that is brilliantly written and will take you on a journey that is just brilliant, it might make you wish that you’d never begun the journey but you’ll enjoy being dragged every step of the way. Lex Chase has written a trilogy that has ended in an explosive ending and it’s not till the last couple of pages that you find out if true love actually won out!

I recommend this to those who love urban fantasy, who adore journeys into the unknown, who love characters that you adore and those you hate/sympathise with, who love well-crafted stories, and just maybe a true loves ending.

Blurb: Malcolm Webber is still grieving the loss of his partner of twenty years to cancer. He’s buried his mind and feelings in his legal work and isn’t looking for another relationship. He isn’t expecting to feel such a strong attraction when he meets Hans Erickson—especially since the man is quite a bit younger than him.

Hans is an adventure writer with an exciting lifestyle to match. When he needs a tax attorney to straighten out an error with the IRS, he ends up on the other side of the handsome Malcolm’s desk. The heat between them is undeniable, but business has to come first. When it’s concluded, Hans leaps on the chance to make his move.

Malcolm isn’t sure he’s ready for the next chapter in his life. Hans is so young and active that Malcolm worries he won’t be able to hold his interest for long. Just when he’s convinced himself to take the risk and turn the page, problems at the law office threaten to end their love story before it can really begin.

Review: Malcolm lost the love of his life to cancer just over a year ago and he is still grieving, his family and friends encourage him to start to live his life again even if it’s just getting together with friends but Malcolm is reluctant. When a new client walks through his door a spark of interest is ignited but Malcolm worries it’s too soon and Hans too young. Hans is interested in the tax attorney who helped him out but it isn’t until they bump into each other at a restaurant that Hans gets the chance to flirt. As their relationship progresses Malcolm can’t help but worry, but his relationship with Hans is the least of his troubles when a problem at work threatens to take away everything that is being built.

This is a great story of two older men who have both suffered loss and who find love again. I loved both Malcolm and Hans, they fit together quite well and they have a spark that isn’t just sexual but a meeting of two personalities that mesh well together. Malcolm is a well-respected attorney and Hans a popular author, they hit it off from their first meeting and while Hans is happy to dive right into a relationship Malcolm is more wary.

Malcolm is 52 so he worries that the younger Hans (42) will soon get bored with him as Malcolm has slowed down as he’s got older, Hans isn’t worried in the least he’s quite happy to enjoy the ski slopes while Malcolm takes it easy but Malcolm’s doubts keep eating away at him. Malcolm also has to worry about his firm as a problem arises; it also leads to him facing danger as a man blames Malcolm for all his troubles.

I really enjoyed this story and its slower pace, we see two characters who aren’t the young sexy boys we normal see, they are older and have both had long term relationships, they aren’t interested in going out clubbing and hooking up, they are more interested in quite nights in, nights with close friends and easy enjoyable weekends away. It’s lovely to see a story about characters over forty finding love again and the support that these characters give each other in their time of need.

I recommend this to those who love love stories for more seasoned characters, who adore men who give love another go, who love characters who support each other and are there in times of need.
