You can’t hide the cracks under the spotlight

Dusk. Leader of The Underdogs. Destined for greatness. Lives in the now.

Abe. AKA Lolly. Iridescent. Unicorn.

All Dusk wants out of life is for his band to become world famous. He also wants to have a lot of fun along the way. And to get his rocks off. When he wants something, he goes for it, consequences be damned.

So when he sees a gorgeous pink-haired guy who is the human equivalent of tattooed cotton candy, he can’t help but have a taste. But it’s when Lolly ends up on their tour bus that Dusk knows their meeting was destiny.

Abe is the kind of guy who goes with the flow. He was hitchhiking anyway, so why not spend the week with a hot piece of rocker beefcake, getting smothered by his sexy long hair? And why not play the part of the supportive cutie while he’s at it? It’s not like he’d be sticking around for long anyway.

All plans hit a wall when photos of Abe and Dusk emerge online, suddenly pushing the band into the spotlight. To take advantage of the sudden popularity, the band offers Abe money for staying.

Which means money for being in a fake relationship with Dusk.

Which isn’t even fake.

Or is it?

When Ward Johannsen’s little girl Ava shifted into a werewolf, she was taken into custody by the feds and shipped off to the nearest pack, all ties between father and daughter severed. Ward burned every bridge he had discovering her location, and then almost froze to death in the Colorado mountains tracking her new pack down. And that’s just the beginning of his struggle.

Henry Dormer is an alpha werewolf and an elite black ops soldier who failed his last mission. He returns home, hoping for some time to recuperate and help settle the pack’s newest member, a little pup named Ava who can’t shift back to her human form. Instead he meets Ward, who refuses to leave his daughter without a fight. The two men are as different as night and day, but their respect for each other strikes a spark of mutual interest that quickly grows into a flame. They might find something special together—love, passion, and even a family—if they can survive trigger-happy pack guardians, violent werewolf politics, and meddling government agencies that are just as likely to get their alpha soldiers killed as bring them home safely.

Her Hometown Girl

(Belladonna Ink 03)
by

Lorelie Brown

I had doubts before the Big Day—doesn’t everyone?—but I didn’t expect to find my fiancée banging the caterer’s assistant right before the ceremony. Especially because he’s a guy. And we’re lesbians. The proper sort of Southern Californian lesbians who invest in hedge funds and wear bedazzled wedding dresses and wouldn’t be caught dead in a Subaru.

But then I became a runaway bride, headed straight for Belladonna Ink to get the kind of tattoo I always wanted and my ex always called trashy. She didn’t approve of a lot of things I did. I think maybe she didn’t approve of who I am.

So I’m determined to be as much of myself as I can manage. Dating my tattoo artist? I’m in. Cai is smart, sexy, and mysterious. Exactly what I need for a rebound. She keeps herself guarded, but I understand—I’m holding on to secrets too. The kind of secrets that make a girl want to run home to Mom, even if home is Idaho. Maybe especially then. I just didn’t expect Cai to come with me.

I wonder what it would take to get her to stay forever.

Maybe This Time

by

Moving into a new home starts with a bang when Ryan Blackwell celebrates turning thirty. Being hungover means he’s bleary-eyed and clumsy the next day, but even in that state, he can appreciate how sexy and fit his neighbour is.

Matt Thomas isn’t looking for anything long-term—one and done is usually his life rule. Why settle down early, like his sister, when casual relationships are so easy? With Ryan living in the same building, chance encounters are inevitable. When one night together becomes two, a friends-with-benefits deal seems a natural progression.

There’s only one problem: sex with no strings relies on matching expectations, so Ryan can’t help worrying. His huge heart always wants more, but Matt’s been clear about his limits. As passion leads to caring, they’ll have to make some tough decisions—maybe this time, breaking some rules will be worth it if that means they’ll get to share a future.

Needing time to think, he takes a walk through a copse by the Cornish roadside, only to stumble upon the body of a ritualistically killed sheep. As he’s trying to work out what the symbols around the animal mean, the sheep’s owner, Jennifer, and her nephew, Ruan Gwynn, come upon him.

Review: For me Heart Unseen had two massive attractions: 1) I will read anything by Andrew Grey, his stories make me laugh and/or make me cry and always have a whole lot of heart. All his characters are realistic with very human flaws and it’s always a pleasure to read and see them develop throughout the course of a story. To put it simply, he embraces the everyday differences, not everyone is perfect and that is the attraction.  2) There is something about a blind (or otherwise disabled) MC that I love – mostly because these are usually written as strong, inspiring characters. Or they may be wallowing in self pity about some tragedy that happened to them, but as a reader we get to see them grow as love takes hold.

Heart Unseen delivered all that for me.

The story is about James and Trevor. James is the blind the MC. He’s fine with who is but being blind for most of his life meant, for him at least, that his social interactions with “sighted” people has been rather limited. The story highlights wonderfully just how dependent on touch James’s world is. James’s world is always ordered because that is the only way James can get by independently – nothing can be moved, he needs to accept help when he enters a new place, etc. Trevor, I suppose in my mind he is something of a gentle giant. He has his own sad story which makes his wary of love – his parents divorced when he was young, his mother died when he was still a teen. However, he has an awesome stepdad, Larry. I totally love Larry and his plotline!

Both guys are reticent in their own way, but it’s Trevor that needs to step up and make the first step. This isn’t an angsty story or some quick insta-love story, this story has deeply developed characters and plot. I felt every moment and didn’t want the book to end! Trevor and James are wonderfully realistic and relatable – and they chemistry is off the charts. Any Andrew Grey fan will love this story. It’s full of heart, with a good dose of suspense and drama to go along with it.

Lisa’s Review: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Each book in the Wildfire collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Lynn Hagen was one of the first authors of gay romance that I had read and she got me hooked. Now I admit that all of those were paranormal, so when this series came out I was wondering how they would turn out. So you can imagine my surprise that they were the right story for me. This story caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it there all the way to the end.

Darien is the owner of the construction crew that was going to rebuild an old town and help to revive it. Wildfire had been purchased and was going to be turned into the perfect place for the gay community. He had his sights set on one of the men behind the purchase and realizes that Wildfire might just be his perfect home.

Matthew had been born into a home that was always broke, and made his fortune with hard work and dedication. When his life started to unravel due to a bad choice with a man, he started to drink to forget. His best friends thought buying an old ghost town, well almost ghost town, he just went a long with it. He had lost his ability to trust and needed a reason to start over. I would say Darien is up for the job.

It was a pretty good story and I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was a fresh and unique idea that I had a lot of fun with. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next story.

Veronica’s Review: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Darian has a construction company, and he and his crew are working to restore a small town that was purchased by Matthew and his friends. The first time that Darien saw Matthew, he was imagining how many flat surfaces he can have Matthew on, but he’s not interested in a relationship.

However Matthew doesn’t trust anyone other than his friends, and he isn’t interested in hooking up or getting involved with anyone, since recently, he was accused of a heinous act and he’s still paying the price of the person that is trying to ruin his life.

When Matthew’s life is imploding, although his friends are there supporting him, he’s more surprise that Darien is there to literally lift him up and help him get back on his feet, even when he found out the reason. When a past lover comes back to make more trouble for Matthew and he’s being questioned by the Police, Darien runs to his rescue and shows him that he can be trusted and that they can both have a future together.

I would definitely recommend this story to anyone interested.

Blurb: It’s been decades since blackmail forced Troy Callahan to retire from playing professional hockey, and he’s built a successful career behind the bench. When he’s offered the opportunity to coach the Asheville Ravens—the most hated team in the ECHL—he’s convinced that his no-nonsense attitude is just what the team needs to put their focus back on hockey. But Troy is disheartened when he finds that the Ravens have signed Shane North, a player known for his aggression. And it only gets worse when Shane’s rough good looks give Troy inappropriate thoughts about a member of his team, even if Shane’s set to retire at the end of the season.

Shane’s career in the majors never quite took off. Wanting to quit on his own terms, Shane agrees to a one-year contract with the Ravens and finds himself playing for a coach who thinks he’s an aging goon and with a team that doesn’t trust him, the coach, or each other. Despite his determination to not get involved, Shane unwillingly becomes part of the team… and is just as unwillingly drawn to the gruff out-and-proud coach. As the Ravens struggle to build a new identity, Shane and Troy succumb to the passion that might cost them everything.

Review: Hockey + Romance = Awesome!

Seriously, it’s true. It’s got to be some sort of scientific law or something!

Coach’s Challenge is the fifth book in Avon Gale’s Scoring Chances series and I have loved and devoured each book. Coach’s Challenge is no exception. I was kind of waiting for something with this type of plot but not expecting it.

While the two main characters are new this is really a story of a team’s redemption. Because of this I really do recommend reading the series from the start if you’ve not already done so. That way you will understand why the Asheville Ravens are the most hated team in the ECHL and why the team needs to build itself up from the ground after being practically destroyed (for all the right reasons).

As for the story itself, Troy Callahan is the titular coach. He didn’t have an easy time in his professional playing career (I won’t spoil anything!) but over the years has proved himself to be a damn good coach. Now, after replacing the unethical and all around horrible coach of the Asheville Ravens, it is his job to build the team up. (Think the Mighty Ducks if they had been made up of mostly brutish, homophobic a-holes). He has a plan for the team and the last thing the team needs is a player known for being aggressive. But Shane North has something to prove. He’s coming towards the end of his playing and feels like he needs to prove himself as a hockey player after a lackluster career in the majors.

Fans of the books will not be disappointed I think. It gives the Ravens a new lease on life after being totally vilified for four books. Sports romance fans, you guys should just go back and read the series from the start.

Review: Each book in the Cedar Falls collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

This wonderful series also has a new branch that just came out. The new series is called Syn’s Playground, so you need to check it out. I came across this wonderful author with the first book in this series, and I knew I was caught. She became one of my favorite authors and also became an automatic buy. Lets face it Jesse was the one that caught me hook, line and sinker.

When Jesse and his friends met up at the casino, the Jackson boys bullied them and then proceeded to get kicked out of the casino. Not too many places for a bully to go, however Charles was a big surprise and he was also in for a surprise. He never really wanted to hurt anyone and now he was trying to make up for it. To his luck it was Jesse that gave him the chance to prove he had changed.

Austin was suppose to give the okay for the new place to go up, he just wasn’t to sure about giving Charles the chance. Then he took the time to get to know him, and things are going to heat up.

I was glad that Charles had changed and was given the chance to prove it. He was a blast to read about and I just absolutely loved him and Austin. The story just kept on giving me what I really needed in a story, and I can not wait till the next book comes out. I love the little surprises and I love how the guys are always willing to help another.

I would definitely recommend not only this book but the whole series. This is one author that you will love to read.

His new roommate—that annoying jerk Peter from last year’s production of Guys and Dolls—complicates matters. Crammed into a dorm room with the overconfident but undeniably hot accounting major, Logan can’t stop snarling.

Then Peter sprains his ankle building sets, and Logan grudgingly agrees to play chauffeur. But instead of putting further strain on their relationship, spending time together reveals some common ground—and mutual frustration. Logan discovers he isn’t the only one who doesn’t know what he wants from life, and the animosity between him and Peter changes keys. But just as the possibility of a happier future appears, Logan gets a dream offer that will take him away from Western Massachusetts University—and Peter. Review: I really hate to say, but reading the second in Kate McMurray’s WMU series has left me with much the same feeling as the first book. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoyed the story. Like her other stories I’ve read, the characters are well developed, same with the plot, with a number of likable characters and generally well written. However, the story just didn’t connect with at the same level as some of her other books have.

What’s the Use of Wondering? is a wonderfully sweet new adult book set in Kate McMurray’s world of Western Massachusetts University (we even get a few glimpses of book 1’s Dave and Noel).

The story is about Logan and Peter. Logan is a violinist whose family has already mapped out his life and career as an orchestral violinist and Logan knows that to please them he has no room for error. However, as the stress of university builds he begins to question what he really wants for his future and if he really has to be dictated by his parents for the rest of his life. To make things more complicated, a new roommate enters his life, Peter. Peter, as the blurb said, is a jerk. Logan just does not like the guy and that’s probably more to do with Logan’s desires and questions whether or not he can be true to himself while being the good son. Peter is majoring in accounting, but he’s also involved in WMU drama production of Guys and Dolls. But when Peter sprains his ankle, Logan becomes his chauffeur and Logan is not only faced with the questions that have been plaguing him, he is now also finding out that love could give his life a more satisfaction than he realized!

Honestly, this is a sweet and enjoyable coming of age. Logan can be a bit angsty but he has a lot going on. Logan and Peter are well suited and I really did enjoy that they took their time to come together and discover each other.

Review: Each book in the Eternal Flames collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

It has been sometime since I had read the previous books in this series but it was like I never forgot them. I remember Manny and his mother. I remember when his mother had been killed and how hard it had been on the boy. He had been taken in and adopted by two wonderful men who adored him. Now he is almost twenty one years old, boy time sure does fly by. Walking home he is abducted by a green man, and everyone knows green men are dangerous as hell. However many surprises are in store for Manny, and only that green man can help him. To top it off the one man he had a crush on, just so happens to be the one man he needs the most.

Frankie has always liked Manny, even when he was just a kid. Which makes him freak out a bit, however Manny’s scent has changed and damn if he isn’t his mate. To top it off, Manny skin tone is changing, and that change just might mean a little twist.

I absolutely loved Manny and Frankie. They just seemed to rock it perfectly. Many would say that Manny is too immature and his father is too protective, but once you figure out their story you can see how it just pulled the story together. For one Manny is still very young and his fathers are his adopted fathers. So when something kind of shows up and your young man is growing, the empty nest feeling does start to happen. I actually felt for them all during that time.

It has a serious tone to it, but there is some humor that mixes just right for this story. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. I got a kick out of it and can’t wait to start in on the next book.

Sūnder

(Darksoul 01)
by

Lexi Ander

If Sūnder Alārd was born female he would have been cherished for being faeborn—born with magick—and his birth celebrated. Instead, his L’fÿn mother insisted on his death. Only his Panthrÿn father’s desperate escape through the forest saved him.

With most Chándariāns uneasy in his presence due to rumors he is doomed to become a darksoul, and unlikely to find a mate because of it, Sūnder has nevertheless carved out an honorable existence as a warrior and commander. Serving as a bodyguard and chaperone, Sūnder accompanies the Chándariān prince to the annual mating festival on Earth, and when the prince is injured, he can’t help but be fascinated by the tongue-tied nurse who attends them at the hospital.

At sixteen years of age, Gabriel St. Baptista came home to discover his parents had taken off into space, leaving him behind to look after himself. Gabe never recovered from the unexpected desertion, and keeps everyone at arm’s length to avoid the pain of being abandoned again. However, after meeting Sūnder, Gabe finds himself unable to resist the bond between them and breaks his carefully crafted rules to spend time with the Chándariāns, regardless of the fact that Sūnder will soon leave. Scared by what he feels for Sūnder, Gabe can only hope his heart won’t be too broken when Sūnder returns to Chándaria.

But deceit and treachery surrounds them both, and when Gabe saves Sūnder’s life, it sets off a chain of events that could either tear Gabe and Sūnder apart… or give them both exactly what they want.
