Review: Kiss Me Forever is a book by MJ O’Shea as part of the Dreamspun Beyond line. MJ O’Shea is one of those authors I’m familiar with, I’ve read a handful of books and have at least enjoyed most of them.

The story is about Avery Cook, he’s a college professor and has achieved a lot on the professional front by the time he hits thirty. Avery meets Tyson and Tyson knows that he must have Avery. Tyson is an old world romantic and very lonely. He wants Avery but with danger stalking him he doesn’t want to see Avery harmed and decided (as any male romance hero does) to push him away. The paranormal element of this story is that Avery is human, while Tyson is something. He’s basically immortal, has been around for a number of centuries and has to drink to stay alive/young (essentially a teetotaling version of the philosopher’s stone).

To be perfectly honest, I really struggled with this book.

While I enjoyed it enough to finish the book, I was left feeling, well feeling just meh. The story just didn’t grab me from the start. It’s just that certain aspects of plot felt a little flat and contrived to me (I wasn’t sold on the whole mystery and the villain’s reason for being). Which is weird because this type of book I’m usually all over like white on rice.

All in all, the actual romance is sugary sweet, but the sexual chemistry and tension just wasn’t quite there. Being set in New Orleans is somewhat predictable but I liked the imagery that O’Shea provided with her descriptions. Since I’ve enjoyed MJ O’Shea in the past, ultimately I was left feeling a little disappointed, which I really hate to admit, but hey, this is an honest review.

Review: Never Let You Go by Andrew Grey is a totally heartwarming, sweet and even heartbreaking story about love and healing. It is the sequel to Can’t Live Without You. However, the books can be read as standalone with only a brief appearance from the MCs of book 1. In my opinion everything Andrew Grey does is good, if not complete gold and this is no exception.

Brighton and Ashton have been friends since they were kids, when the orphaned Ashton moved to town to live with his aunt. Ashton joined the military and somehow the guys made a life together until the time that Ash went missing on a mission and everyone was told he was dead. But Ashton did make it back and a misunderstanding that Ash didn’t bother to find out more about kept him away from Brighton until fate stepped in.

While Ash was piecing his life back together and coping on his own with PTSD after his ordeal, Brighton was dealing not only with the loss of the man he loves, but also with the loss of his sister and becoming a dad to his niece. He is understandably hurt when he sees Ash in town again. But these guys have learnt from Ashton’s mistake and while they grew up together, they have even more growing to do before they can bring their lives together once more.

I can’t remember how much I’ve heard of Jeff Gelder’s narration, but I’m sure I have in the past. Regardless, he gave a good voice to both the MCs, as well as Brighton’s niece and even Brighton’s aunt. His voice gave off a well-rounded audio that I absolutely adored. Fans of Andrew Grey will love this one, as usual as well as those that are fans of friends to lovers and broken but perfectly flawed MCs.

Ugh, organics are revolting. Damp, inefficient, prone to leaking—everything Meteor despises. The last thing he and his accomplices Gloss and Spike want to do is set foot on a planet infested with billions of the horrible things. To add insult to injury, to escape detection while on Earth, they’ve no choice but to disguise themselves as the aforementioned moist bipeds. The indignity is almost more than his circuits can bear.

But there’s no alternative. For centuries, Meteor, Gloss, and Spike were nothing more than three of thousands of robots programmed to serve the whims of a hyper-advanced intergalactic species. If they want to avoid being recaptured by their old owners, they need to find a weapon hidden millennia ago in Earth’s soil. Meteor’s ambitions, however, don’t stop at merely escaping capture. He’s got big plans for the species that built him to be a slave. Big, violent plans. And it’ll all work out perfectly provided he can keep reminding the other two of what they’re on Earth to do.

What they’re not there to do is have fun. But flighty, excitable Spike quickly forgets that.

What they’re not there to do is learn about kissing. But cold, analytical Gloss finds his attention drawn that way regardless.

What they’re not there to do is become human. But Meteor has spent several hundred years bored out of his mind and humans…well, damp as they are, they’re not boring. Which is a problem, because Meteor can’t afford distractions—not with their owners searching the galaxy for them and getting closer every day.

Ashraf never thought he could fall in love. So when he falls hard and fast for marine biologist Jamie Singer, it’s a shock to the system—in more ways than one.

But Ashraf has vastly underestimated the pull of loving Jamie. For the first time, he wants to face the water, rather than flee from it. He has underestimated the power of love in making people brave, stupid, or a little bit of both.

Brian

You’ll make it out of here, Brian. I swear.

I had everything—school quarterback, popular with girls, and my dad was proud of me. I told myself it didn’t matter no one knew the real me. And then I nearly died. Landon saved my life. He’s the bravest guy I know. He came out a few years ago, proud and fierce, and he ran into gunfire to help others. Me, I’m a mess. Can’t even stand to be in a room with the curtains open. But here’s the thing about losing it all: You get a chance to start over and be someone new. Only how can I move on when the two shooters who attacked our school were never caught? And why do I feel like I’m still in the crosshairs?

Landon

Will you kiss me?

When I came across Brian Marshall, the hottest guy in school, dying on the cafeteria floor, I did what anyone would do. I tried to save him. His request surprised me, but I figured he needed comfort, so I kissed him on the forehead. When he survived and came back to school, he was broken in body and mind. He still needed me, and soon we were unlikely besties. But what I saw at school that day woke me up. I want to demand action on gun control, lead protests, raise my fist. I’ll tear the world down if I have to. And if I can get the man of my dreams and save the world at the same time? I’ll take it. Only I didn’t understand that the horror at Jefferson Waller High wasn’t over.

Review: We now have a tighter team with the H.E.R.O’s of the Enhanced World. But as Finn fights to carry his own weight with the team, Talon fights against his own fears and constantly jumps in to protect him. You can imagine where this puts strain on a newly formed relationship.

What I enjoyed about this book the most was seeing Finn develop stronger friendships with other team members. The author gives us a broader picture of not just Talon but Vance, Gael, Sawyer and others.

There’s a mystery, action, detective work, missing kids, and plenty of tension both sexual and emotional between Finn and Talon again. We learn more about different team member’s enhanced abilities and that Talon’s is changing, and he’s uncertain about his own control over it. When the story comes to it’s climax we’ll find out if Talon is truly as strong as Finn believes him to be. Talon will have to learn to give all his trust to the love of his life, his very life depends on it.

Victoria Sue also does sexy-times with flair and plenty of passion. I’m never disappointed, though I could always beg for more.

Nick Russo’s narration is smooth, varied voices for each character, and has great emotional attributes throughout. Did I mention I REALLY like his vocal characterization of Talon. Mmmm-mmmm, good!

If you enjoy the X-Men/Thirds kind of world building you’ll love Five Minutes Longer and the entire Enhanced World series by Victoria Sue! Hold on tight, you’re in for a ride and an all-nighter!

Blurb: Working on a full house.

Once upon a time, Trey Williamson and Ap McIntosh had quite the whirlwind romance—but that was before family tragedy left them the guardians of five kids. Their lives have changed quite a bit over the last six years, but Ap is still on the rodeo circuit, doing what he does best in an attempt to feed all those extra mouths.

That leaves Trey back on the ranch, isolated and overworked as the kids’ sole caregiver. Something has to give, and when Ap comes home, they’re reminded how hot they burned once upon a time. But is it a love that can withstand wrangling over time, money, and the future? They have to decide what kind of family they want to be… and whether what they share can stand the test of time.

Review: I’m fast becoming a fan of BA Tortuga, particularly her cowboy/western novels. Because seriously, a story about a hot but flawed cowboy is just wonderful. Tortuga, for the most part, does justice to a story with at least one cute kid in addition to the cowboys. I love it! (I think my favorite is still Two Cowboys and A Baby).

I have to admit, when I first read the blurb to this book I was left in two minds about how much I wanted to read it. I’m not sure if I was too sick and didn’t concentrate when I read it, or if the blurb to the book is genuinely too busy packing too much information in. Nonetheless, in the end, I really enjoyed this story. It is sweet, charming and has a heck of a lot of heart. Both MCs are relatable guys and for me it was impossible not to feel bad for Trey and get a bit annoyed at Ap for missing too much.

So that means I better actually tell you a bit about the story.

Trey Williamson and Ap MacIntosh met years ago when Trey’s sister and Ap’s brother got married and then proceeded to have five kids. They are both quite young – in their late twenties – and so six years ago when tragedy struck and Trey and Ap became the guardians to their nephews and nieces they were just at the start of their own adult lives. Trey had been saving to go to college and Ap had been on the road competing rodeos since he was approximately sixteen. While their siblings had been alive the two men had shared a couple of special moments but could never explore a serious relationship once they became the guardians to the kids. Trey stayed behind on the small ranch looking after the kids day in and day out, while Ap stayed on the rodeo circuit making money to raise the kids. In fact, Ap leaves very little money for himself, leaving it all for the kids.

However, after six years Trey is burning out. Six kids between the ages of six (I think) and sixteen takes a lot of energy and he has basically been a single parent the entire time. So Ap has to come back and be more than the uncle who rings up while on the circuit and go back to visit for special occasions. Ap learns some important home truths as he finds out just what Trey sacrificed to raise the kids and work his exhausting schedule. And so years after they had started to explore an intimate relationship, they are finally together under the same roof and no longer just passing ships in the night.

As I said, I really adored this story. There was a lot of emotion and while I felt a bit of resentment at Ap for never trying to be more than the bread winner and the cool uncle who drops in every now and again, I really did like Ap and liked how his character matured.

Review: A feud between dragons and coyotes are at an all time high. Though some do not know the real reasons for the feud. It all comes to light when Jake, a coyote, mates Arthur, a dragon.

The one thing that confused in this story was the only way to know for sure if they are mates it to be bitten by a dragon, then survive the venom in said bite. That blew my mind. What happens if they are not mates will they die from the bite. Seems a bit risky to me.

But aside from that I very much enjoyed the story and reading about the dragons and the coyotes.

Great read.

Review: Each book in the Cedar Falls collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I started reading romance stories at the age of twelve and was always intrigued by the worlds that authors can come up with. Then a few years ago I read my first gay romance and I decided that there was just something about them that I liked more. I, like many, have favorites that we always follow and Shea Balik is one of those authors for me. There is just something about the worlds that she creates that keeps me captivated through out the whole entire book. So much so that when a new book comes out, I must always start reading the very first book that leads up to this one.

I love how there is a serious tone to it, but that it is equally matched with humor. I can’t stand a book that has no humor in it, I would rather be laughing then just sitting there. I also love how Jesse and the gang try to help the others out, even if it gets them into hot water. There is always lust, love, hot sex and a good amount of danger placed in these stories that keeps my attention as well.

It is the time to find out if Jesse is going to be mayor or not. Jesse decided they needed a newspaper in town and who better than Jonathan to run it. However it would seem Jonathan just wants to find out the truth about the two men who are running. He just seems to not like Jesse and he has one hell of an attitude. Thankfully Drex knew how to handle him. He had once been in the special forces until he was injured. Now he just led a quite life working with a friend. All that is going to change with a very vocal and sexy man. Stay tuned to find out who wins the election, GO JESSE.

I love these stories especially when there are some gorgeous men in some kinky situations. I can honestly tell you that this is going to be one of those types of series that you can’t put down and have to read more than once. It is the perfect story for me and gave me all that I needed. I love the way all the feelings they felt was involved in this story. I had a blast reading it and I can’t wait to read the next story. Trust me it will keep you laughing, crying, loving and having fun.

Review: Seth is a kind and caring young man who helps the homeless anyway he can. Dante is an angel tasked with looking after Seth. There are rules about not falling for those in your care so Dante keeps feelings to himself. Seth witnessed a murder and caught it on his phone.

The man responsible, the doctor, finds out and kills Seth. Seth has decisions to make after his death about what he should do. I found that interesting as most books dealing with the afterlife do not give the character a choice immediately after death so I was intrigued.

The whole story had my attention from start to finish with characters that made the story enjoyable to read. I am looking forward to the addition in the series and seeing what happens next.

Great read.

Caleb and his friends have been in Gillham for months, but the memories of what happened to him in the lab still torture him. Freddy knows most of the pack doesn’t like him. He used to be a drug dealer, and while he did it so his brother stayed out of that life, he knows it’s not a good enough excuse. He’s not angry at the way the pack treats him, and when he meets his mate, he expects Caleb to behave the same way.

He doesn’t. Caleb’s friends aren’t enthusiastic of Freddy being his mate, though, and when one of them makes it clear that he expects Freddy to do everything to keep Caleb safe from his father—even if that means dying—Freddy decides he’s right and decides to confront his dad.

Review: Each book in the Council Enforcers collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in s
sequential order.

There is nothing better then a good paranormal romance with two gorgeous men involved. They are entertaining and have just the right mix of feelings in them. There is also quite a bit of danger or excitement in it as well. This one caught my attention and kept it all the way to the very end. I love the mixture of characters that this story and the other ones have in it. Will always keep you entertained.

Caleb is a very cute little chinchilla shifter who has been hurt. Him and his friends were together in a lab, and then escaped. They had not known those who were doing the rescuing were the good guys, so they ran. That is until the same rescuers saved their butt’s when they were stealing food from a fae group. He always put a smile on his face and joked around, but it was hiding his true feelings. Feelings that forced their way out in his nightmares. That was why he chose to seep in a tree. A tree that his mate sat under.

Freddy did everything he could to keep his brother not only safe but out of the criminal lifestyle. He just hadn’t expected his little brother to be saving his ass and bringing him back to the Gillham pack. He was an ex drug dealer who was trying to stay on the right path, but his past was coming for him.

I love the way this author puts together a story that not only draws you in but keeps you entertained as well. They have a serious tone to them, but there is a bit of humor floating around. I do get a kick out of the whole thing. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Review: Joe and Ned are neighbors who harbor deep feelings for each other. When a solar flare endangers the world the two men find themselves in the fight of their lives to survive while the world crumbles around them.

I liked the idea of the story about two people trying to survive in a world of darkness where there is no technology to know what is happening outside. It was intense at times yet sweet at others. I did not feel it needed to be as long as it was and at times I felt myself zoning out of the story.

Other than that I liked it. Ned was sweet and at times seemed unsure. Joe on the other hand was Ned’s protector through and through. He would do anything to ensure nothing happened to Ned.

Good read.

Review: Tender Mercies is the second book in Eli Easton’s Men of Lancaster County series. You don’t need to have read the first book to understand and there is only a brief meet up with the MCs of the first book, so if you’re like me and didn’t read the first book you’re good to go regardless.

Eli Easton is one of my favorite authors on the Dreamspinner Press call sheet. She writes wonderfully sweet romances that I just get lost in. However, for me, something fell short in this story. The plot left me feeling a little “meh” – I’ll get to specifics in a second. The narration by Wil Tulin, a first time I’ve heard this narrator, was also mediocre, but I’m partly convinced that it is the book rather than the voice.

Tender Mercies is the story of Eddie Garber and Samuel Miller. Eddie is a thirty-year-old, soft-hearted man with a lot of lofty ideas. Just the fact that he brought a farm for rescued farm animals with basically no idea of how he was going make it work. He needs help and places an ad in a paper for a farmhand. Who he gets is 19-year-old Samuel Miller – Samuel’s story is heart breaking. He’s an Amish man who was beaten and whipped by his father before being shunned by his community. He has happy day dreams to escape his horrid reality where there was an Amish community that would openly accept gay men and all same sex couples to adopt orphans. At first Eddie sees Samuel as someone he must save after finding out just how bad things are for Samuel and things just go from there.

One truly funny moment is where Eddie must explain to Samuel, in a way Samuel can understand, that Eddie is a vegan and doesn’t even want Samuel to milk the rescue cow. It’s very endearing for Samuel’s character, but really did not help me to connect with Eddie. And that, is the main issue I had with this book.

Eddie was an impossible character for me. I really had to suspend my disbelief for this one as soon as I started. The fact Eddie went over half a million dollars into debt with the mortgage on the farm with no plan of how he was going to run a rescue as well as manage to keep on earning money was hard to believe. Eddie does admit that he is all heart and no practicality, well not so specifically, but it didn’t really help me. From there I was never able to really connect with the guy.

Fans of Eli Easton will at least enjoy this audio. In fact, looking at other reviews I feel that my opinion is in the minority. People that have read other books featuring Amish characters (such as Andrew Grey’s Love Means… No Shame, and Love Means… No Fear) will probably enjoy this too. However, once more, my opinion is that Eddie’s character is not as strong as those in similar books.

The Blackwood Pack saga continues…

This is part of an on-going series and reading the previous titles is advised. Readers of the past books will enjoy meeting old friends once more as the pack does what it does best ̶ caring for each other.

Slate, one of the last Dire Wolves, has carved out a life which suits him fine—plenty of traveling to exotic locations and an abundance of one night stands to handle his needs. While he’s happy for his brother, who has found his Fated Mate, Slate isn’t interested in finding his—at least not for a long time. That is, until his body betrays him. Seeking his mother’s help—who is an Oracle—Slate pays a visit to the Blackwood Pack where he finds the Fates have once again, messed with his life.

Dakota, the chef for the Blackwood Pack, fell in love with cooking as a young child and ultimately the kitchen became a place of refuge for him. Suffering with a ‘curse’ through much of his childhood, he relied heavily on his mother’s help to deal with it. After the massacre of his mother and siblings by their greedy uncle, Dakota barely survives, but finally forges a life for himself, content to stay home and take care of the people he loves.

Review: I really wanted to hate Talon. The team got on my nerves and I felt the anxiety Finn carried on his shoulders as he charged bravely into the unknown world of this new enforcement agency, mixing the worlds of the enhanced and regular humans like himself. These tensions are exactly what Victoria Sue wants to build up in us while we read and listen to her beautifully spun story. When those tensions do finally burst, flames erupt, physically and metaphorically. Action packed, all emotions, and sizzling hot sexual encounters build this loose knit team of talented if frustrating hooligans into a functional team of heroes with strong bonds.

Nick Russo’s narration is great. I really like the voice he has for Talon..mmmmmm, so fine! Narration is smooth, varied, and has great emotional attributes throughout.

If you enjoy the X-Men/Thirds kind of world building you’ll love Five Minutes Longer and the entire Enhanced World series by Victoria Sue! Hold on tight, you’re in for a ride and an all-nighter!

Lucky Coleman is on his knees when he meets a man with more money than sense. It’s a Grindr hook-up for cash, not a love match, but dreaming of his desperate, kind eyes earns a place amongst his numerous bad habits.

Review: I’m going to be up front about this book – while I enjoyed the book and the concept I didn’t find myself wowed by it either. For me, Garrett Leigh is a new author. I enjoyed her writing style and thoroughly enjoyed reading the book from start to finish. However, once more I am brought back to the fact that I wasn’t completely blown away by the story, which has ultimately left me a little disappointed.

The main characters of this story are Dominic Ramos and Lucky Coleman. They are both very interesting characters and vastly different personalities, heavily influenced by the very different paths their lives are on before their meeting.

When they meet, it was never meant to be more than a Grindr hookup, which Lucky desperate to make money. He often sleeps rough on the street or in shelters, or if he’s desperate he will crash at his best friend’s place. Despite what he is forced to do, Lucky is a strong man and has a very defined moral compass. In this way he was so easy to relate to and it was so easy to feel for him more so than for Dominic.

Dominic is thoroughly buried in the closet. Dom is a professional football (soccer) player in England’s Premier League and he knows that he can’t have his career as the league’s most feared defender and come out of the closet. And so he is stuck to a life of stolen blowjobs and hook ups.

Now I think this is where my not being totally blown away by this book stems from: I will grant you, there is definitely some drama and some low-level angst. However, for me a book like this could have the potential to be completely over the top, which could be both good or bad. The good thing about the low-level angst and drama is that it makes both Dom and Lucky so very relatable – they are ordinary blokes. The bad thing is that this is a long book without any great drama to overcome. Which brings me back to the good point that these are just two guys getting to know each other and somehow along the way falling in love.

And that, my friends, is the problem that I am stuck with in my head as I try to give this a proper and sincere review.

Anyone who loves a sweet romance that is just a tad Pretty Woman will love to read Lucky. I’m still undecided if I will read the next story in the series – there is an excerpt for the character Cash who we had met all too briefly.

Review: Tristan along with others of his clan rescue the omega coyotes that were taken by a rogue group of dragons. Adrian struggles to comes to terms with what happened to him. Tristan helps him see he is not the bad guy.

A good addition to the series that I enjoyed reading. Tristan is badass yet caring and considerate. I’m highly curious about Andrew and Lance given Lance’ past.

Great read.
