The Stonebridge Mysteries: Book Three

Living together is bliss for Sam Flynn and Nathan Walker, but things never stay quiet for long in Stonebridge. On the night of Sam’s twenty-ninth birthday, the much-hated mayor of Stonebridge is found dead at his home. Sam suspects foul play, but just as he starts investigating the list of possible culprits, Nathan gets word of a new undercover assignment—one that includes a mysterious, sexy new partner. Though Sam struggles to trust Nathan and control his jealousy during Nathan’s absence, the stress makes a return to the bottle seem not only tempting, but inevitable—especially when Nathan starts avoiding his calls.

Yet Nathan’s fidelity isn’t the only thing on Sam’s mind. A visit from the mayor’s ex-assistant puts Sam in the line of fire, and he’s drawn into a complex web of duplicity spanning back to the night of his parents’ accident. Sam’s journey to uncover the truth about what really happened threatens to unravel long-held beliefs about his parents and puts his relationship with Nathan to the ultimate test.

Review: I can’t say no to revisiting Maggie Kavanagh’s characters from the Stonebridge Mysteries series. If you’ve not read Double Indemnity and Inner Sanctum, you need to go back and read them so that you may understand the overall plot points which pick up here in Blind Spot. To be completely honest, if you haven’t been into these guys from the start this book may be a bit tough to get through.

Once again we are back in the lives of Sam, who is well known locally for his crime blog, and Nathan, who is not only Sam’s boyfriend but also an FBI agent. The guys met back in Double Indemnity and are still together. The question of Nathan’s fidelity mentioned in the blurb is important and though not a major part of the plot, this is definitely one of the times where you need to know the background from the previous books.

We meet a couple new characters, including Nathan’s new work partner. But it was good to see Sam at his usual antics, namely not keeping his nose out of police/FBI business and investigating crimes in an effort to not only serendipitously (at times) help Nathan solve the crime, but also get information for his blog. This book starts on the murder of a new character, the mayor, but soon the pieces come together bringing new information and old information and people from the first two books into play.

A note on the ending, and another reason to read the series from the start, I loved how finally we got the full picture on one character in particular. Those pieces have finally fallen into place. You have no idea how glad I am to have that character’s mystery solved, which consequently ties in with another ongoing plot point. But there still seems to be a lot more for Nathan and Sam if Maggie decides. Sam’s brother, Tim, who has been in a vegetative state at a care facility also gets an ending as well. Things are tied up there and I have to admit that I cried. I loved that too.

Once again, this book is great for anyone who’s into crime, thriller and mystery, particularly for those that have read the first two. However, if you love crime and mystery and need a new series I wholeheartedly recommend this one.

Review: Alejandro worked for Stonewall Investigations, in fact it was Zane that brought him on. He was good at his job so when Griffin showed up, he knew he would get to the bottom of it. He just hadn’t expected to like him so much.

Griffin had been diagnosed as bi-polar at the age of fourteen. After his mom’s death, he took to drinking pretty heavy, and even lost contact with his father. Here he was on med’s and drinking, not a good combination. Which is how he ended up on the couch with a dead body on the floor. His roommate was murdered and he had no clue. He needed help in more ways then one.

Well the focus was more on Griffin’s problems but the romance was also there. There was a bit mentioned about the serial killer again, but didn’t focus on it as much. This one was more love and sexy time then action packed. It was better than the first one, but still a little on the dull side. It does flow at a slower pace then one would expected but it was still told pretty good.

I did enjoy it, but my attention was not captured throughout the story like it should have. I can honestly say that this will not be one of those stories read more than once or twice. I liked Alejandro more than I liked Griffin and connected with him. Griffin just came off strange, but for some reason it made him feel more real to me. The story might not be what I would like, but it does feel like people you know and hang with.

Overall it is a very good story, well told, and something I would recommend.

Blurb: Murder, mystery, and an inconvenient attraction…

Shifter Aaron Harper gets drawn into illegal underground fighting to keep an eye on his best friend. The thrill of the fight keeps him coming back for more, but discovery could mean imprisonment and banishment from their pack. Without a beta to watch over them, common sense takes a back seat.

Michael Archer of the Shifter Crimes Task Force is investigating recent murders. Despite the brutal cause of death pointing to the work of a shifter’s claws, instinct tells him a well-known nightclub owner is involved, but they have no proof.

Aaron and Michael’s paths cross after another body with the same injuries is discovered. With Aaron finding himself on the wrong side of the SCTF and Michael looking for a killer, any attraction between them is both ill-advised and unlikely. But fate has other ideas.

Review: This story is set in the Regent’s Park pack world but can be read as a standalone story.

Aaron had been trying to figure out what was up with his best friend. When he found out he wasn’t sure what to do. It would seem Harry was betting on illegal fights. The only way he could protect Harry was to either pay to watch or fight. He chose to fight and realized that he was damn good at it and he liked it. The problem was shifters were not allowed to fight and Aaron is a wolf shifter. Caught would be prison time in a shifter’s prison for both him and Harry. However things were heading south.

Michael was part of the Shifter Crimes Task Force and they were searching for a serial killer who just happened to be a shifter. The last murder led them straight to Aaron and things are going to heat up real fast.

At first I was having a difficult time getting into it but past the first few lines I realized what the story was about, my own dumb fault for not reading the blurb. However I find that I truly liked the story. It has a serious tone with dark undertones to it, but it was such a unique type of story that I was caught. I really liked the characters and their stories. It is a mystery mixed in with a bit of suspense and danger floating around. Not to mention some hot looks and oh I think I will let you read the book to figure out what more there is .

I was actually surprised at the ending and finding out who was truly the killer. It gave me almost everything I could want in a story and I will admit that I don’t much care for dark tones but this one just came out perfectly or near enough. I will also admit that the series this one is close to wasn’t brought to mind, but this story I can see not only remembering later on but will be read once more.

I found myself liking this story and would definitely recommend it. I will also be checking out more of this author’s work.

Blurb: The last thing Dorran expected when he moved out of his old apartment was to find a dead body in the new one. John Mitchell was a despicable man, from what Dorran learns, but no one deserves to have their head bashed in. Dorran supposed he should be grateful for what happened, if anything because one of the detectives on the case is his ex-boyfriend—the one he dumped ten years ago because he didn’t want to come out of the closet.

Things are never easy for Dorran, though, and he has to deal with nosy neighbors, his angry ex, and…a ghost? He really didn’t mean to stick his nose in the investigation, but it’s not his fault everyone seems to prefer talking to him instead of the cops, even when he really would rather not listen. And it’s also not his fault that the dead guy seems to have killed his uncle—and that the uncle still haunts the apartment. If only his ex could understand that. Dorran wants a second chance with Eli, but Eli seems to think Dorran is sticking his nose into things on purpose.

Will Dorran manage to convince Eli he didn’t mean to get involved? Will he find out who killed John Mitchell before that person decides to take out someone else? He knows he should, because with his luck, that next person is going to be him.

Review: I wonder how it feels to get smacked on the ass by a ghost. I bet that Dorran never once thought that when he moved into his new apartment. Although when he started to move in several problems showed up. One his apartment was still full of the dead guys stuff and then he found a dead body in the storage area, so ghost were no big deal. The big deal was the detective to show up, you guessed it, his ex-boyfriend.

Eli had been angry at first when he saw the man he had loved once, but got dumped by also. He knew from past experience that Dorran also would not stop trying to figure out what happened to the dead guy either. Sparks are about to show up.

The ghost was a great idea for this book. I got a kick out of Dorran and the ghost. Eli was a little harder to like but then again he comes off a bit gruff, with good reason though. Very quirky story that kept my attention to the very end. I got a kick out the whole book. It was exciting, fascinating, dangerous and some hot sexy time. It gave me everything I could want in a story and so much more.

I had a blast reading this and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I would definitely recommend this book.

Review: Aubrey and FBI agent Jun have plans to start their relationship off with two weeks of sightseeing and enjoying each other to the fullest. What they do not expect is finding a skeleton in the closet and investigating a murder.

I loved the perfect blend of the MC’s romance and the mystery throughout the story. The mystery itself was fascinating. I loved all the details surrounding the investigation.

Murder, mystery, romance, treasure and a great cast of characters made for an amazing story. I found I could not stop reading from beginning to the end.

Fantastic read.

Review: Two assassins after the same man. Eastman is hellbent on taking out those responsible for his lovers death many years before. He is on a mission to take out Russian Valentine who is Dom at Invitation Only and also his lovers brother. When he discovers the man is innocent he does all he can to stop the other assassin sent to carry out the hit.

What starts out as a battle of wits and wills turns into hot and steamy interludes until danger comes knocking. With the help of the Invitation Only staff can Eastman protect an innocent man or will death take him?

I really loved that two assassins got hot and heavy in this story. Danger, action and drama are a reality in this amazing journey to the finish. The person who took the hit out did not surprise me given who they were. I myself thought the man was insane.

Loved this story. Highly recommended.

Review: Each book in the Marshals collection features our very sexy US Marshals. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. In my opinion I would actually start with the A Matter of Times series because that is where you will get to meet our sexy men’s boss.

Miro and Ian have been work partners for over three years, but time has changed quite a lot. Now they are partners in life as is with work and things really are not changing in my mind. They are both stubborn, feisty and down right crazy. As with many starting a relationship, things are up and dwon till you get it right, or close to it as you can get. When one of Miro’s most dangerous arrest escapes from prison, Miro knows the man is going to come after him.

Ian is a very touch special forces member as well as a marshal, but it is Miro’s touch that he needs to keep him grounded. So when Miro goes missing, you can guess what is happening to Ian. These two are only starting out and you can feel the heat from them both. However Miro wants to get married but Ian is still not in that mindset. He just doesn’t understand why Miro wants it so bad, that is until he almost looses the man.

Now as much as I love this book, I don’t really care for all of the extra stuff added in and smaller plot lines that you can see coming out. To me when you add in a lot of extra dialog, descriptions or just fluff it takes away from the story just a bit. I get tired of reading it and skim over all that extra nonsense. It doesn’t mean that I don’t love the story quite a bit, but I get bored with all of it. To me it just feels like the author is adding stuff to make her word count. Now other than that, this story is very fast pace and will keep you on the edge of your seat.

I can’t wait to see what the next book has going on. This is one book I would definitely recommend.

Brown-Eyed Devil 01 – Brown-Eyed Devil ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.75 Hearts
Due to a curse in the family line Myron is turning into a beast. Meanwhile kids at the school are disappearing. Anoki, a necromancer has been tasked tasked to stop the disappearances. Myron and Anoki team up to stop what is happening. These characters worked well together throughout. I truly enjoyed this story from beginning to end. The fight scenes were terrifying.
Brown-Eyed Devil 0# 2 – Red Rogue ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts
The sequel to Brown-Eyed Devil follows Anoki as he goes on a quest to remove the curse on Myron’s family so they can be together. What follows is much more than Anoki knew about. More action scenes, demons and a powerful mother stand in the way of the secrets behind the curse being placed. Anoki’s family is dangerous, eventually his estranged father comes back to offer his aid. A truly wonderful story that takes the reader on a journey through danger, secrets and a whole cast of paranormal beings that leave the reader spellbound. I loved it.
Made Man ♥♥♥♥ 3 1/2 Hearts
Lots of twists, angst and drama surround Kevin and Eli. Kevin tries to be a gentlemen about things and Eli is quite the opposite in wanting to charge ahead. This is weird story with two men separated in high school only to reunite later on in life with Eli investigating Kevin’s father’s criminal activities. It was an o.k. read with an abrupt ending and no resolution.
Loss of Heart ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts
Such a heartbreaking, emotional story about Daryl and Adam who’ve decided to commit to each other and get married. Before that happens an intruder breaks into the house while Adam is at work and rapes Daryl. Though the scene is brief it’s after affects are powerful and felt long after the ordeal is over. Daryl struggles to live again without fear and guilt while Adam continues to support him in every way. I have to say what pissed me off was the attacker got away despite Daryl scratching him. The police should have been able to catch him via his DNA so that confused me.
Dallas in Wonderland ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts
Dallas, Johnny and Miguel each have their own baggage to carry in this story. Each character is well developed and described. As a matter of fact half the book is just that. Each men needed the other in some way throughout which I really liked. Another thing I liked was the one sex scene. Many times authors over do the sex scenes to the point where there’s more sex than actual story but not in this case. Wonderfully written this is a story about three different men who come together and heal the others wounds so to speak.
Love Turned Blue ♥♥♥♥ 3 1/2 Hearts
Slade and Bruno start a relationship only to have it jeopardised by several things. Slade was married to a woman and had a son before getting divorced. Now the thirteen year old Kent is coming to stay with his father. What will he do when he finds out his dad’s actually gay and that he’s dating a man? Bruno and kids do not mix well so the news of Slade’s son coming to stay makes him doubtful that things will work out. In the end they work things out.
Eyes on Sparrow ♥♥♥♥ 3.75 Hearts
Morgan is on summer break and about to go off to college. Sparrow is a construction worker working across the street. Sparrow catches Morgans eye. They start a relationship only to have it jeopardised by Morgan’s immanent departure until he finally stands up for what he wants to his parents. I enjoyed the story and especially Morgan finally taking up for himself and not allowing someone else to control his life.

Review: When I first saw this book it fascinated me, but I still wasn’t to sure I wanted to read it. I still picked it but sat on it for quite awhile. I have never really been one to pick a story by an author I have not read before, but still the story called to me. There was just something about it that drew me to it.

I have never been a fan of dark stories, horror or even paranormal mysteries. This story however, once I started reading it kept my attention from the first word. It was compelling and extrememly dark. The characters are very unique and so are their stories.

There is a dead child in a tree, murdered and left for them to find. Then to find out that it is not one child that this evil has taken but twelve. Twelve innocent’s to be slaughtered by an evil no one knows about. David is an ex-priest who has a dark past. Parents gone, they were raised in a horrible place that did more to them in the name of evil. Only to be taken by priest that were cruel and sadistic. He has left the priesthood and is now a police detective who deals with the worst one can see.

Dallan works for Interpol and is older than dirt. He is the leader of the Hunters. A paranormal group that hunts the evils down and takes them to where they were meant to be. Twelve children have lost their lives and Dallan is sent in to find him. What it leads him to is a man who has been hurt and scarred, but whose heart is still so big and powerful. It leads him to a family he had not expected.

David must open his mind to the things that could be and what he is. He must claim his birthright and fight with the hunters. It will also lead him to his heart.

Now this is one book that I would love to put a higher than five mark on. It is a very fascinating story that made me hunger for more. I can not wait to get my hands on the next story. This is one book that might change my mind on stories like this. I would definitely recommend this.

I loved these two together. They help the other in ways no one else can. The fear Derrick has is understandable given what he went through and Niall helping him understand there is nothing wrong with seeking help when it is needed.

Great read.

While working his way through the complicated case, Paul starts getting his life back together. Review: Ian is very thankful to Rowe, Lucas and Snow for saving him from a cruel life many years ago. But at the same time he is tired of being scared of the one man he was saved from: Jagger. When threats from Jagger endanger his family Ian gets fed up.

Hollis, a cop, has been in love with Ian for some time now. After finding out what the man went through he takes on a very dangerous assignment to bring down the man who caused Ian so much pain and still torments him. But things go wrong when they are found out.

I loved this story. Ian and Hollis were so great together and I found that the way Hollis never rushed Ian, sweet. The dangerous situations were heart-stopping and edge of your seat worthy. I found the mix of of emotions and dangerous to be a great combination to an already fantastic read.

Highly recommended.

Review: A great addition to the series with Will and Baz in the middle of a murder mystery as well as the complication in Will’s life. Baz for his part is smart and funny and seemed to be Wills equal.

The overall feel of the story has an intriguing and relaxed atmosphere at times to culminate the mystery in it’s depths as well as the relationship nature of the characters. I liked this story with it’s mystery, humor and romance. You can never go wrong with that combination.

Fantastic addition.

Review: Johnathan and Rafe purchase a home that has been in Jon’s family forever. Soon after starting renovations strange occurrences began to happen that only intensify the further the progress on the house. No one will tell them anything about the house as no one but a select few know anything.

I have to say this one of the best horror books I have ever read and the greatest part is there is no bloody parts. Three generations of family generation converged in this house. You don’t find out for sure what exactly is going on and why until near the end and boy what a twist of sorrow, terror, sadness and heartbreak it is.

My heart went out to Johnathan and Rafe’s family for what they went through in the past. Spooky, yet brilliantly written this book will have you reading until the very end. I absolutely loved it.

Highly recommended.

Review: Rowe is still grieving for his wife when his old army buddy Noah shows up after leaving the military. The one time these men were together comes roaring back as long lost feelings are slowly rekindled. However, I have to say that even though I understood Rowe’s grief and reluctance with Noah it pissed off with the hot and cold game he played with him after each time they are together.

I did not figure Rowe to be someone to play with someones emotions after everything he had been through but that’s what it felt like he did until he got his head out of his ass. The threat to Rowe and the crew seemed never ending. Danger, action, suspense and some hot scenes are all throughout.

I was glad Rowe finally came to his senses considering how long Noah has had feelings for him. Even though I was mad at Rowe a good majority of the book I am happy with the end result.

The mystery part was outstanding in it’s explanations, planning out and execution. Fantastic read.

Review: Wow what a great story. Casey takes care of a mountain lion brought into the clinic but he quickly realizes it’s a shifter. Jason wakes up and is annoyed and worried that he was tranqed on refuge land. This prompts Casey and Jason to investigate to find out what is going on.

I loved this couple. They had their sexy times as well as serious moments as well. The investigation had great details that I highly enjoyed reading. This series just keeps getting better and better with each book.

I am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Fantastic read.

Review: This book is about the outwardly cold Snow or Doctor Frost. Snow’s character was a bit dark at times but I understood given his background. What surprised me was Jude, a paramedic was able to get through his walls to the caring man inside.

Jude was a strong force to be reckoned with. He wants the good doctor and so he goes after the man. Snow does not what hits him. I found it awesome that despite Snows firm control he knew when to let Jude lead.

Snow is a man with deep issues that often result in him needing something out of the ordinary. I really felt for Snow. He seemed almost lost at times. His connection with Lucas, Ian and Rowe is strong. A bond that will never die. He protects his friends at all costs.

When a ghost from the past emerges into the present Snow throws himself into discovering where the man is and finding out what he wants. When the truth is revealed sinister does not even begin to cover it.

Highly recommended.
