Blurb: Former military pilot Blaine Darby carries a load of guilt and pain from the harm he may have caused in wartime. Now he seeks to earn some good karma by fighting wild land fires while holding on to his great love of flying. But reporters like young Daz Contreras scare him—one of the few things that do—because he shuns the public eye.

Freelance investigative journalist Daz Contreras is convinced terrorists are behind at least some of the wild land fires plaguing New Mexico. All he needs is enough proof to break the story. As he pursues leads, he begins to shadow pilot Blaine Darby and, in the process, develops a gigantic case of hero-worship.

When Daz is allowed to ride with Blaine one time, he hopes the adventure will help him to uncover the proof he seeks. Yet when a near tragedy unexpectedly develops and Blaine puts his life on the line to save a trapped hotshot firefighting crew, Daz realizes he’s an eyewitness to what may be a bigger story than the one he planned. But will the reclusive Blaine actually allow Daz to report the news as he sees fit, even as they grow closer?

Review: This was a fascinating story with a bit more added in that I had not expected. It was a blast to read and I look forward to reading more by this amazing author. Blaine is known around as a recluse with a war record and a great standing in life. He was the leader of a group of plans that would put out fires. Ever since being a war pilot, he came back with a lot of guilt and pain, that he kept from others. That is until a sexy reporter shows up wanting help.

Daz was a freelance reporter and right this minute he wanted to help find out who was setting the fires that Blaine and the others were fighting. When he went to Blaine, he was star struck and blinded. However, he wanted to help and needed the help also. Things heat up between them both and I had a blast reading about it.

This was a fascinating story that had a bit of kink in it. It was a fascinating story with very few words put into such a dynamic story. I had a fun time reading this and look forward to some more stories by Deidre. I would recommend reading this especially if you love daredevils, excitement, danger, adventure, and gorgeous men. It gave me almost everything I could ask for in a story and my attention was caught with it.

Detectives Mark Ruxsberg and Chris Green are very good at their jobs. Being the enforcers for God and Day’s notorious Atlanta PD Narcotics Task Force causes the crazy duo to get into more trouble than they can often get out of. The pair never misses out on an opportunity to drive their Lieutenants crazy with their dangerous, reckless, and costly stunts, landing them in the hot seat in front God… often.

Ruxs and Green love their jobs and they don’t mind the very demanding schedule that leaves them little time for socializing or dating. It was fine with them, they enjoyed hanging out with each other anyway.

However, most of the men in their close circle of friends and colleagues are pairing off and settling down. God has Day, Ro has Johnson, and their Sergeant Syn has Furious.

For the past several years, Ruxs has only sought out the advice and company of one person, his partner and best friend Green, and vice versa. Both of these alpha males are presumed straight, but neither can deny the heat that’s building in their once ‘just friends’ relationship.

Syn prepared himself to accept his lonely fate until he walked into a small pub and met the long-haired, tattooed bartender, Furious Barkley. Before Syn can even understand why, he’s overcome with feelings he barely recognizes: passion, yearning, craving. Just two thing needs to happen before Syn and Furi can give each other what’s been missing from their lives for so long… Syn needs to find the evidence that proves Furi’s innocence of murder, as well as protect him from a past that refuses to let go.

Sacrifices

(A Jeff Woods Mystery 02)

by

Chris T Kat

When he was outed on the local news, Jeff Woods gave up his dream job as a detective to become an on-air radio personality. The sacrifice was worth it to keep Alex and Sean in his life, but Alex lost his job, too. Jeff can tell Alex worries he’s pressuring Jeff too much, first with Sean and now the lack of money, but he has no idea what that will lead Alex to do. Desperate times bring out the stupidity in some people, and when Jeff discovers Alex is in over his head in a situation he can’t handle, he needs all his self-control to stay calm.

Life is not easy with the Church of Virtue still spouting venom wherever they go, homophobes at the police department, a gangster who wants Alex in the worst possible way, and a bed that barely holds one grown man, much less two (and a child), but Jeff is there to stay for good, and he’ll do what it takes to make Alex believe him.

Dirty Deeds by S.E. Jakes, Riptide Publishing Blog Tour, Interview, Giveaway and Review

Oh do we have a treat for you guys today, we have Riptide Publishing with S.E. Jakes along with S.E’s newest release Dirty Deeds. S.E. answers a couple of questions for us and we have a great Riptide giveaway of Amazon gift cards. So see what S.E. has to say, read my review and enter the Rafflecopter giveaway by clicking on the link, good luck everyone! 😉 ~Pixie~

DirtyDeeds_TourBanner2Hey everyone!!! Thanks to MM Book Reviews for having me back here for my Dirty Deeds blog tour 🙂  Dirty Deeds is the first in this spin-off series of Hell or High Water.  Dirty Deeds focuses on Cillian and Mal, two characters who’ve been in both Hell or High Water books 1 & 2 (Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone.) Dirty Deeds # 1 captures a very specific moment in time for the Cillian (the spook) and Mal (the former SEAL in exile).

Here’s our questions for S.E. and her candid answers:

Madeline: 01 – I absolutely love Mal already, will Cillian be deserving of all that Mal has to offer???

S.E: I know people have very mixed feelings about Cillian pre Dirty Deeds.  I think you’ll get to see another side of him that’s surprising.  For me, Mal and Cillian was a complete, unplanned surprise and it’s been a roller coaster from there.

Madeline: 02 – Will Mal and Cillian end up exclusive??? They both seem to have a thing for Prophet.

S.E: Yes, they will end up exclusive—but they’ve got a bit of work to do before their HEA (which WILL happen).  Mal and Prophet are very tight – the kind of friendship that’s literally been through life and death, so Mal’s thing for Proph is protective rather than sexual.  I don’t see Mal sharing well.  As for Cillian, his ‘thing’ for Prophet is complicated, but Mal ends up surprising the hell out of him.  As for Prophet—absolutely no sharing.  Although Proph shows his jealousy much differently than Tommy, could you imagine either of them handling that well?

DirtyDeeds_150x300 1Madeline: 03 – Will Tommy and Proph be showing up in Dirty Deeds, and will that damn couch be used????

S.E:LOL!  Mal does have something to say about the couch in Dirty Deeds!  And yes, you’ll get a bit of Proph and Tommy.

Pixie: 04 – Will we discover more about what Cillian is really doing hanging around Prophet or will it be a completely different storyline?

S.E: You find out much more about why Cillian’s hanging around Proph (and more on the John Morse storyline) in Dirty Deeds and Hell or High Water # 3 (their storylines run partly on the same timeline)…so by the time you get to Dirty Lies and Dirty Love, the Morse plot is done and Mal and Cillian have their own story to deal with.

Pixie: 05 – How did you come up with such fascinating characters and such a brilliant back story, and will we ever learn why Mal, Prophet and their friends can’t be together?

S.E: I’m VERY lucky – these guys found me  / picked me.  Prophet showed up one day and literally made his way into two books before I realized that he was never going to leave me alone until he’s got his own series.  It’s the first time I’ve ever written the same couple throughout the entire series, and I’m enjoying the hell out of it.  And yes, there’s a little of it in Long Time Gone (the CIA is responsible) but ALL of that will come out between Hell or High Water books 3 & 4.

Two seasoned operatives finally meet their match: each other.S.E. Jakes DirtyDeeds_500x750

Cillian works for the mysterious Special Branch 20: an organization that runs black ops commissioned by the British government. His specialty is deep undercover assignments with virtually no support. He’s been alone for so long that he no longer knows anything else.

Mal’s also used to being alone. Wanted in several states and even more countries, he’s not allowed in the vicinity of any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. And his current assignment is to track Cillian in order to discover the spook’s endgame. Except he’s no longer sure which one of them is getting played.

Cillian isn’t about to let the mission that’s consumed him for the past several years crumble because an outsider is poking around where he doesn’t belong. But Mal forces his way through Cillian’s defenses—and into his heart—exposing a devastating betrayal that could destroy them both.

Review: Cillian is an operative for the mysterious Special Branch 20, a British black ops organization. Deep cover is his specialty and he has been working on a case alone for the past several years, chasing down a figure that is more like a spectre and is always one step ahead. Mal is used to being alone, working in the background but unable to meet up with any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. Mal is currently assigned to keeping an eye on Cillian; to discover the real motives for his involvement in Prophet’s life. Mal works his way into Cillian’s defences and sparks fly, but what will happen when they discover just who the other is?

This is a fabulous story that has you guessing as to what is happening; we move smoothly through the story being pulled into the mystery that is surrounding these men. Mal is the silent one, he suffered a devastating injury that he nearly died from and left him mute, he always has his teammate’s backs and he is determined to learn everything Cillian knows. Cillian keeps his cards close to his chest, hunting for a traitor and keeping Prophet out of the game are his main goals. These two men are playing a game of cat and mouse, hunting for answers and keeping their secrets but conducting a tryst that only one of them really knows about.

We see a brilliant story being developed as we look on, Mal is incredibly sneaky drawing Cillian in like he is a fish on the line and Cillian thinks he is playing with Mal having no clue as to what is really going on. Their meetings are clandestine with want and need swirling through the air, their couplings desperate and needy and filled with mystery by their actions. *sigh* A perfect match who have a very rocky road ahead of them.

Oh My God, oh my god I need book two… right this second! There are no words to describe how badly I want to track S.E. Jakes down and make her write the entire series out, the ending for this book has me on tender hooks and I am desperate to know what happens next! Holy cow Mal, what are you going to do? Cillian, I hope you start running. While I want to tell everyone what’s in this story and what is really going on, I can’t because the surprise is just too juicy, both Mal and Cillian have surprises for the other and not all of them are pleasant.

I have to recommend this to those who love brilliant stories coming together before your eyes, secrets revealed that has the hair on your neck standing on end, a fantastic explosive burgeoning relationship that might just go down in flames and a beautifully written story that has you begging for more.

Fighting human monsters and damaged tech, Kazra and Thanson must put aside their past long enough to  try to save everyone.

Thanks to his last client, he’s carrying a secret he can’t get rid of fast enough, but his oath to the guild means a swift, painful death if he shares it. Already desperate for help, he runs into yet more trouble: his ex, and an explosion that paralyzes the station moments after their uncomfortable reunion.
.
Kazra Ferdow, Station 43’s communications officer, is almost as blindsided by the return of his first love as he is by the sudden loss of power and life support. The station is a floating graveyard in the making, and something is turning its inhabitants into savage killers. Fighting human monsters and damaged tech, Kazra and Thanson must put aside their past long enough to  try to save everyone.
.
The more light they shine into dark corners, the more Thanson realizes how many people might die for the secrets locked in his head—and what he’s willing to sacrifice to make sure Kazra isn’t one of them.
.
.
Review: Although this story is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone. Thanson left his old life behind when he became a Discretionary, an elite companion, but he always had one regret. When Thanson becomes stranded on a space station in the far reaches of the Empire he comes face to face with that regret. Kazra is the communications officer of Station 43 and is shocked when he comes face to face with his first love again, but it soon emerges that his ex-lover brings problems with him and Kazra and Thanson will have to put the past aside to save the Station and the humans who are turning into mindless monsters.
.
This is a great little science-fiction novella that could easily have been made into a full length novel. Thanson is a man who is a Discretionary, a high caliber companion who will never reveal the secrets he learns except to his Cohort (Guild) Head of House. Leaving his last contract abruptly Thanson must share his secret, but cut off from those who can assist and with a virus turning the stations inhabitants into violent monsters Thanson has to rely on the man he left behind years before. Kazra has found himself stuck with his assignment on Station 43 and when Thanson comes waltzing back into his life it brings back memories he had locked away. With someone after Thanson to ensure secrets don’t spread and the station dead in space, Kazra begrudgingly helps Thanson.
.
I really loved the concept of this storyline and was fascinated by the characters and their past together. Kazra is still bitter over being left behind and Thanson only ever had one regret… leaving Kazra behind. While there is tension between the two, it never takes away from the dire circumstances that they find themselves in, the race against time to get help and to avoid the one who is hunting them. We are given flashes into their past together and the love that they had, it is a love that is still lingering but the anger is still bitingly strong. It isn’t an easy reconciliation and following them through the station you wonder if the past can ever be overcome.
.
Now, while I find the concept of a Discretionary intriguing and the plot to shut him up before he could talk interesting, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was dropped in the middle of the story, in the middle of a story! We had the flashes to the past with Kazra and Thanson and their relationship, then we had the Imperial Minister wanting Thanson permanently silenced and then we have the virus outbreak and the sabotage of the space station, so while everything was connected it also wasn’t, more circumstances leading to a large conspiracy and devastation while uncovering a heinous plot. So while a great story, I felt like I had missed a lot of what was going on, like I got a snatch of a much larger story.
.
I recommend this if you love science fiction, running for you life in a space station, foiling a deadly plot, reunited lovers working through the past and a very happy ending where the past is put to bed.

Review: This is book three in the Xander series. This one can standalone since it mainly follows Kay and Johnny, after Kay goes off to college.

This book has more sex in it than the other two. But, it is hot and sexy and adds to the story very well. There isn’t as much angst as the first book or the second, but it does deal with deep emotions.

Kay is in his second year at the institute and he and Johnny have been together for three years. They have a very deep loving relationship, but Johnny is Kay’s first love and Kay can’t help but feel that there is more out there. Also, Johnny keeps Kay as a bottom and keeps control of their relationship and that bugs Kay. Since, Kay actually likes girls also and would like to top some. He feels that Johnny doesn’t have enough trust in him.

I really, really like Kay. He is a very unique individual.  I even liked Johnny and all the new characters introduced. The one thing like so much about these stories is that the other characters all play an important role, fit in so well, and make you want to know them more. I would love to see every single one of their stories.   There was also a little mystery slipped in that added intrigue and excitement.  There is quite a bit of partying and drugs and drinking involved but it didn’t really bother me much since it is reality.

This book is different from the first. One, Two, Three Shatter covered the main character from youth to adult, whereas this one focuses on a shorter time frame.

If you like a good story of new adults finding themselves, don’t mind drugs and alcohol, like a loving romance, lots of emotion, some unique characters and some pretty hot, sensual mansex; this is for you. I can’t wait for the next one.

Blurb:   It’s 1996, and Mark Vincent, senior special agent of the Washington Bureau of Intelligence and Security, has been assigned the task of assassinating the head of a terrorist organization in Europe. When the mission goes south and he’s ordered to take a vacation, he reluctantly goes to Paris, where, in a little bar called Le Petit Home, he sees a man who intrigues him. However, like ships passing in the night, they go their separate ways, only to meet again the following morning, and over breakfast, the man introduces himself as Louis.

Is it too much of a coincidence? Perhaps, perhaps not, but Mark is intrigued and, unable to resist, he gives his name as Rick. A comment of Louis’s leads Mark to assume Louis hustles for a living, so Mark decides to “rent” him for the week. Unbeknownst to Mark, Louis has his own reasons for going along with the charade, which leads to… the start of a beautiful friendship.

Review:  Short and Sexy, I got two of my favorite colors with this odd little novella.

Mark Vincent (Rick) is a secret agent called to Paris on his latest assignment. In the aftermath of an assignment gone bad, and losing a friend, he’s also dealing with the illness of a father figure back home. Taking a night off he spots a man at the bar that interests him in a way no one has in a while. The man leaves with someone else, but as fate would have it, Rick stumbles across him again the next day.

Louis has come across to Rick as a ‘rent boy’ and the two enter into an agreement for the evening. An evening that turns into a week spent making love, ordering room service and taking romantic strolls through the streets of Paris. As their journey comes to an end, Rick discovers that Louis is not the man he initially thought him to be.

I was a little lost at the start of the story, trying to keep the various agents separated. But once the story started to focus on just Mark/Rick and Louis, I was beyond engrossed. And then once that little twist presented itself at the end I was ecstatic! If you’re looking for something short, sexy, and fun then give this one a whirl!

Blurb: Kash never thought he’d find true love working at a maximum security prison, but that’s exactly what happens.

Correctional Officer Daniel “Kash” Kashaveroff is single, gay and working at a maximum security prison in a small town in Nevada. Not the best job or town in which to meet men. He wants to fall in love again but isn’t actively looking.

Then he begins working with a new partner, Zane Davis, and his life is turned upside down. Kash is attracted to Zane but isn’t sure the sexy man plays for his team. When the gay or not mystery is solved, Zane and Kash begin a relationship that starts as friends-with-benefits but soon becomes a committed one.

Zane is bisexual and as much as he cares for Kash, he is still drawn to women. The attraction to the fairer sex creates problems in the relationship but Kash is committed to making it work.

While dealing with his relationship issues, Kash also becomes friends with an inmate named Cody Ives. Becoming personally involved with an inmate is against the rules, but Kash believes in the young man’s innocence and insists on proving it

Review: This was a lovely read, one I enjoyed quite a lot, even if it was a bit slow at the beginning. There are books we feel them realistic, and there are other we feel them as real. This one felt like a biography, the prison details and work routine were as if interviewing a real life officer. That made for a slow pace at the beginning, though in all fairness the author does inform us that this first book of the series is meant to give us a real feeling and introduce us into the non-glamorous version of this line of work. He ends up with the promise of more action for the next books.

So moving on, I loved this story. It was romantic without being cheesy, it was an everyday affair, and quite credible, while at the same time maintained a certain rush that came from the circumstances. I mean here we have an office working a high security level prison, secretly gay, having a relationship with a coworker and getting emotionally involved with an inmate sentenced for life. And to top things, making the action part of the story heighten in intensity, there are ghosts from the past coming for them. Lovely plot indeed, but what had my attention most of the time were the characters.

Kash; protagonist and a lovely character indeed. Having failed at relationships way too many times and being hurt by people he loved, Kash tries desperately to make things work with Zane. His past with his family is cringe-worthy; there are so many children who have lived that life. His beliefs and strength in them is admirable, and in general, Kash is a character that makes you fall for him quite easily. You grow to respect him and that is huge in my opinion.

Zane; Oh dear God what a despicable character. Yes in the end he managed to become less despicable (I insist with that adjective) but during the first half of the read, I wanted to strangle him, beat the shit out of him, and even break his legs. Good Lord, I think this was the character that evoked the strongest emotions from me, even if they were not good emotions at the time. See I don’t have a problem with cheating characters, after all, we are human, and we tend to make mistakes. But Zane, Zane was a whole different level of cheating, he was the kind that did it, came back for forgiveness and went on and did it again and again and again… Good grief, what a piece of work.

Cody; a sweet character if there ever was one, bit too naïve and easy trusting. The last bit was not my favorite but it helped him along this plot, since he got more that he even dared hope for. His past gave a certain depth to the character but I still felt I needed more. Thing is he only showed a certain spike during the end there, while the entire read he was more of a passive figure. Personality wise he still feels a stranger.

And that was a common treat with all the characters in this book. While the action part was very interesting, there was serious lack of chemistry and I still feel I don’t really know the people involved. In the end, while it was a very acceptable end despite the “forevers,” I wanted more from this particular couple, just more.

As it is, I recommend this book for the romantics out there and those who love action and adventure of the mild sort, since there is thankfully a lack of angst and drama here. And while I’m at that, can’t wait for the second book of the series that promises to be more intense and full of action.

Review: While out hunting Caolan is rescued by a mysterious stranger and Caolan makes a pact with him because of the effect the stranger has on him, but Caolan has to break his pact, but swears to stick by his oath. Donal and Caolan are princes who are sent to safety after an attempt on Caolan’s life, their stepmother is suspected and Donal won’t risk losing his brother. Deceived into returning home Donal is tricked into a geis, an honor-bound quest, it is a geis that will be impossible to fulfill, but Donal and his brother set off for the Dark Prince’s land to obtain the Horse of Bells, picking up the Traveler along the way.

This is another great fantasy from Pelaam, which feels like it should be based on a myth. Both Caolan and Donal are great characters who are wonderful brothers, Caolan is the younger brother and Donal will do anything for him. Donal is strong in body whereas Caolan is stronger in mind, and Donal has always tried to protect his younger brother from their father’s criticisms. When they set out on their quest and Caolan meets up with his lost love it gives them, hope that they will make it to the Dark Prince’s land, but it isn’t easy to obtain a horse who doesn’t want to be obtained.

This story is wonderfully written with a couple of stories entwined, we have two brothers setting out on a quest that is dangerous and finding their true loves, we have an attempted uprising which nearly ends in sorrow and we have a mystical horse that has a mind of its own. The world building is quite good and you get a great feel for the world and circumstances, there is a very heavy medieval feel to the surroundings and you get a strong sense of whimsical myth throughout the entire book. The sexual encounters that we see between the two couples are quite sensual and loving; both couples are well suited and will do the right thing by the ones they love.

I really enjoyed this story as I do like a good medieval feeling fantasy and this one has the added bonus of having two love stories, with danger and sacrifice. Caolan makes everyone see him as a man and Donal shows why he will be king.

I have to recommend this to those who love fantasy, adventure, great characters, an interesting storyline and a very happy blissful ending.

Ten years ago, a virus swept the planet, killing millions. Just as the world started to recover from that disaster, mechanical aliens invaded Earth looking for iron–and they had no problem exterminating the human race to get it.

Anthony Roark lost his lover in the first wave of the virus. Frankie’s family secreted him away in a cryogenics facility until a cure could be found. But that was before the mechs invaded.

Roark has searched for Frankie since the day he disappeared. Once word reaches him that Frankie has been located, Roark wastes no time going after his lover. But bringing Frankie into the new world might cost him more than his sanity. It may cost him his life.

Review: Roark and Frankie are enjoying their first anniversary together when disaster strikes and Frankie was ripped from Roark’s arms, now after ten hard years of searching Roark has found Frankie but he has a lot of explaining. When Frankie wakes in Roark’s arms he is overjoyed but finding out he was a Popsicle for ten years is hard to accept, but not as hard as the truth of what happened to Earth in that time. In the new world that he wakes up in Frankie has to learn how to survive and fast, but after what feels like minutes to him but is years to Roark how will they reconcile everything that has happened with their love for each other?

This is a brilliant story that is filled with world-building and great descriptions. Roark has searched for Frankie for ten years and the hope of finding Frankie is the only thing that has kept him going during the horror of those ten long years, trying to explain that horror to Frankie is hard but admitting to Frankie that he wasn’t quite faithful during those ten years is harder. Frankie is shocked by everything when Roark finds him, discovering what his family did was hard but finding out that the world’s population was devastated by the same virus that floored him is astounding, and discovering the world is invaded by mechanical aliens would be just too much to believe if he wasn’t being chased by a mechanical spider.

I loved this story, as it was science fiction with adventure and action with the added twist of a rogue virus; add in a man so in love that he has hunted for his missing lover for ten years and you have an epic love story. Roark and Frankie are perfect for each other but they have a few bumps to iron out, it isn’t easy to be alone for ten years after all. Frankie is a remarkable character although he has a few wobbly times he takes everything in stride and has fortitude to face what is ahead of him. Roark makes you melt with his devotion to Frankie and you can easily forgive the blips in his strength.

The world-building is wonderful and you get the full impact of what has happened, the descriptions of the alien Mech’s are clearly detailed, although I could have really done without the explanations about the iron in human blood *shudder*. The journey they take and what they constantly face makes a great story and I am looking forward to the next installment.

I will recommend this to those who love science fiction, adventure, action, alien tech, hot sex, a lasting romance and a happy ending.

Blurb: John is on a dangerous negotiating mission for MI6 in Tajikistan. He meets freelance photographer Scott, but their casual affair ends when John is injured and disappears. Scott can’t forget him. He tracks John to a sleepy little village in England, determined to take their relationship to a new level.

John Jones, aka Aidan Whittaker, a negotiator with MI6, is currently on assignment in Tajikistan, close to the Afghanistan border. Overtly on a University-run archaeological site, he’s covertly brokering a deal with local tribal leaders. His undercover mission is complicated by the arrival of a couple of Americans; journalist Brent Babcock and his photographer Scott Landon. The two men are there to document the ancient Silk Road, but when Babcock gets wind of a hot news story, he starts asking awkward questions.

Scott Landon is a different kind of trouble for John. Fourteen years John’s junior, gay and single-minded, he wants into John’s bed. Not being prepared to jeopardize his operation, John rejects him, despite being drawn to the younger man. But then events around them spiral out of control.

Review: John Jones/Aidan Whittaker is on a negotiation mission.  His plans begin to be derailed by Babcock who is sticking his nose where it could cause trouble. Scott just wants to take pictures… and get in the hot archaeologists bed.  But he gets more trouble when his boss Babcock arranges a meeting with a local tribal leader.

This is an interesting combination of settings.  You have the first part of the book set in Tajikistan near the Afghanistan boarder; which is dry, dusty, dangerous and fraught with tension.  Then in the second part of the book you have the quaint village of Avebury, Wiltshire in England; which is green, lush, quiet and fraught with murderous stories of the long dead.

In the first part, we have John Jones MI6 Negotiator who is trying to broker a deal with some of the tribal leaders. His cover is that of an archaeologist, complications set in when a reporter turns up sticking his nose in where it’s not wanted.  Add his photographer, who John feels an instant attraction to and this mission is in serious danger.  There is danger, a rescue mission, hot sex, a parting of ways and a gun-fire fight which ends with John’s life hanging in the balance.

In the second part we have Scott Landon, photographer, who has been affected more than he thought over what happened to John.  He starts to investigate when he realizes that all may not be as it seems and it leads to the discovery of Aidan Whittaker, expert of Ancient Languages and Literature and an archaeologist. From then on we see Scott’s pursuit of Aidan as he tries to become friends and something more.

This is a brilliantly woven story about two men who get their wires crossed.  Both of them thinking the other doesn’t want them when they both actually want the same thing. We see Scott trying to get through to Aidan that he wants more than just quick sex.  While Aidan thinks that Scott couldn’t want an older man with a damaged leg who just wants to settle down in the little village he found.

So this is a great book that has a little of everything for everyone, danger, tension, hot sex, gun-fights, slow romance, quaint setting, local hauntings and nosy villages… oh and keep an eye out for the cat TBC (That Bloody Cat) that does battle with Aiden every chance he gets. I highly recommend this one, so get this book, read it and enjoy.

Review:  It takes every ounce of Marine discipline for Corey Yarwood to make it through a day. And the only sleep he gets is found at the bottom of a bottle of Jack Daniels. Living with PTSD is bad enough, but not remembering is even worse. Not to mention that one of his old unit brothers wants to pull Corey into his drama. Now is so not the time to fall in love. Good thing Sean didn’t get that memo.BrothersinArmsw-series250

*squee* I have waited 15 months to find out whatever happened to Yarwood. And man was it worth the wait. Now, don’t get me wrong I LOVED Jonah and Kellan in Brothers at Arms, but there was just something about Corey that spoke to me. He was just this dumb kid, but my mama heart just wanted him to be safe and happy. Watching Kendall break in him down and then allowing Sean to help him put the pieces back together kept me glued to my Kindle for two days. I LOVED THIS STORY!!!

The Final Line is by far, my favorite book of the year. It plays like an action adventure movie. And just like Brothers in Arms, the romance takes a backseat to a very well plotted mystery. The men react like men and the steamy stuff is thrown in all the right places. The medical details of Corey’s struggle with PTSD are spot on, as were Sean’s reactions. The secondary players were great, and I must admit, I wished Kendall wrote Het fiction so she could tell another couple of brothers’ tales. Bottom line, The Final Line had it all, romance, action, suspense and authenticity. I highly recommend this title.

And just in case you are one those readers that jumps right to chapter one, I thought I’d include the important parts of The Final Line’s dedication page. 😉

First and foremost, for Portia de Moncur, who wrote the first

ever review of Brothers In Arms. She also holds the dubious honor

of being the first to demand Corey Yarwood be given his own

story. Her encouragement is why Jonah, Kellan and Corey live in

more stories.

(Kendall, I’ll be looking for my autographed print copy in the mail. I am beyond honored that you listen to the pleadings of little ole me. ;-))

Two years after the events of Brothers In Arms, Kellan Reynolds and First Sergeant Jonah Carver are struggling with their bi-coastal relationship. Following the events in Iraq, Kellan’s expertise in national security is well established and he is hired to investigate the suspicious repeated denial of a KIA Marine the Medal of Honor.

Kellan brings Jonah onto his staff and into his home, but just as their relationship settles into a routine, their investigation heats up. What begins at the Pentagon, leads to Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan, and an ambush that threatens to destroy everything they’ve built.

Review: This story is part of a series and is best enjoyed in order. Kellan and Jonah are reuniting after six months apart. Their long distance relationship might be a struggle, but they both think it is well worth it. Together they are to speak at UCLA on Military Infrastructure and Corruption, but they are asked a question that lingers in Kellan’s mind and leads to an investigation into the repeated denial of the Medal of Honor to a heroic Marine who was KIA.

Sometimes you come across a book that rips you out of reality and dumps you into a setting that makes you feel like you are living the experience yourself, and this is one of those books. Kendall McKenna doesn’t just give us a story, she gives us an experience. She digs into your imagination and has you sitting in a war zone reacting to bullets as they whizz past and diving as grenades explode, and has you praying that the cas-evac helicopter will make it in time. The investigation is based on a legitimate question, why are medals few and far between in the current conflict? Ms McKenna uses her military knowledge and her own imagination to give us answers and she does it with panache, and she adds in the love of two great men as they weave through their own relationship constricts.

Jonah and Kellan still have to hide their relationship. DADT hasn’t been repealed yet and although they know it is just around the corner they still have to be careful. When Kellan is asked to set up a committee to investigate why a Marine has been repeatedly denied the MoH he brings Jonah on board. It leads them to an unpleasant discovery and the journey places them in danger, when the convoy they are with is ambushed. This story starts with the reuniting of lovers and heat, longing, love and hot sex, it continues on giving us a mystery that needs to be uncovered and gives us a story that is a must read.

I will recommend this to those who love military men, delving into potential political corruption, finding the truth, two men who love each other, hot sex and a great ending, this is a story not to be missed.
