Review: Nick Wilgus is a new author for me and let’s just say I was definitely not expecting this book. At first I knew it was going to be about zombies, I mean dead who are not dead usually leads to zombies. However this one is way out there, I am talking aliens. I am not usually a fan of horror, science fiction or even young adult type stories, but this one is very unique and entertaining. Although I have to admit it is also very creepy. I could have done without all the religious crap out of Rory’s mouth though; it was what almost made me put the book down.

Billy has always been in love with Rory, but had never told him. This story starts with them camping out and skinny dipping. However Rory’s reaction to Billy’s erection, leads this whole story in a bit of strange land for me. He was raised by a mom that didn’t really give a damn about her boyfriend’s extra special love for him. I hope the rat ass bastard is dead let me tell you. It shows you why he is the way he is though. Both of these boys are fifteen and fighting their attraction to each other, well Rory is through most of the story.

Then they come home to everyone in the town dead. However they don’t seem to stay dead. Then they meet up with Leisha and Mark; well let’s just say it is a unique group to say the least. This group has been thrown into a dystopian and post-apocalyptic type of world but then you add in the UFO’s and aliens, well let’s just say it keeps getting even crazier.

I got to figure that this had to be one story that was difficult to write, but the author did it perfectly. I would have liked it better had the kids been older and not so much religious crap flowing, however it was fun to read. This is one fast paced story and it was like the author just threw it into full gear going in. The build-up, the description, details and twists were something to see. It felt like I was right there with them. Although if this really did happen, give me a guy who really knows how to shoot and survive.

I didn’t care for the ending, what a cliff-hanger this author has given us. However it makes me hungry to get my hands on the next book. It is a very dark and creepy story with a little bit of love in it. However little Jack is going to be one interesting little character I can tell. It is a page turner that is for sure. It kept my attention from the get go and wouldn’t let go till I got to the end. I just wonder what is going to happen in the next book. This author might just change my thinking about horror books and zombies. I would definitely recommend it.

Review: For twenty years humanity has tried to rebuild their world, after a Cataclysmic event that robbed them of their memories and knowledge. After relearning the basics and finding what they can still use to survive the population of the new Canal City have established the Scout and Ranger Corps, groups of people who fly out in the Skyships hoping to find other survivors and resources.

Dev is a skyship captain on the airship Smoke Sparrow heading to a small fishing town called Innsmouth, he’s taken many journeys just like this one and the scholar Shay is a young man he’s admired for some time. Shay is excited about Innsmouth and the mystery that surrounds it, it isn’t on any map and Shay wants to know why, he’s happy to be paired up with Dev again and although he does feel an attraction to Dev he’s already involved with their guard Malia.

Their visit to Innsmouth takes an abrupt turn when Malia goes missing during a scout of the town; it will take all their wits and bravery to face the horrors that lurk in the fog.

This is a brilliant post-cataclysmic horror story that bows its head to H.P. Lovecraft’s The Shadow Over Innsmouth, it’s beautifully written drawing us into the world where hate has been forgotten, where everyone is on equal footing and where love is love.

Dev and Shay are fantastic characters who face a horror that was best left forgotten, Malia is a brilliant character who surprises everyone with her strength and friendship. And the surprises that do crop up sure as hell do surprise you.

Dev and Shay’s budding relationship is tucked into the background as they investigate Innsmouth, the horrors they discover send a shiver down your spine… and being honest I’m unlikely to ever venture out when there’s a fog lingering.

The resourcefulness of the human race shines through as they try to build a world where they can survive, and although everyone has forgotten the past it also proves that some humans have an instinct for greed and power.

The world building is amazing and at times you can feel the damp fog sneaking up on you, the characters are given life as the story unfolds and the horror that comes to light really does send shivers down your spine. I can’t help but hope that there will be a sequel because that epilogue really has my hopes up 😉

I recommend this to those who love horror, post-apocalyptic stories, strong characters, a budding romance and an ending that leaves you intrigued.

Where you’ll find people like Danny, the boy who sells himself to pay for his father’s gambling debts and ends up in a situation more twisted than he ever imagined. Or Troy, the cop whose obsession with saving a brutalized human trafficking victim turns deadly. Then crew members start behaving strangely. Worse, they start to change: their eyes glow purple, their teeth sharpen. Then the violence begins, the brutal deaths. Review: Are you lonesome tonight? Never fear, the trusty dating app FIND’M is right there at your fingertips, promising a night of no strings attached fun with a handsome stranger. Beware though, the price for the anonymity that comes with the ease of hooking up with the online app could very well be your life.

This collection of dark stories will make you stop, think, and proceed with caution before using any type of dating app again! These twelve original and horrifying stories are equal parts intriguing and frightening while remaining cohesive to the overall feel of the dark side of the online dating world.

The writing was extremely descriptive from the killer in the park tearing into his unsuspectingly willing victim’s flesh, to the torn lover that lures men to his home to feed his lovers insatiable appetite.

While each part is super short, Graves did a great job of setting the stage appropriately for each story individually and then tying them all together with the common thread, the FIND’M dating app.

I caution reading any of these stories in the dark, or just before bed, or if you yourself use an online dating app. But I do recommend this book especially for fans of creepy, suspenseful, horror stories.

Ian James Krender

Old houses hide secrets, sometimes dark ones.

In the 1970’s, London based family, Marjorie, Stanley and their theatrically bent son fall in love with a dilapidated Victorian seaside villa.  Dreaming of a better life by the sea, they transform the property into a luxury guesthouse, ignorant of the tragic events that occurred there at the beginning of the century.  They discover that their guests are not the only other occupants in the building.

The souls trapped within the house offer the temptation of wealth and power, but all come with a deadly price.  Stanley, supported by his ambitious wife, enters political office. Marjorie will stop at nothing to achieve her goals for her husband, no matter who gets in the way.

Thirty years later, an affluent gay couple, Jez and Graham, purchase the hotel, which now unoccupied has once again fallen into disrepair.  They are blissfully unaware of the building’s grisly past.  Jez falls under the influence of the spirits within the house, rapidly achieving fame, fortune, and a life beyond his wildest imagination, but the price is ultimately the corruption of his very soul.

Bound by a common destiny, both Marjorie and Jez’s fates lie inextricably intertwined across time and connected to the house.  Their gruesome realisation is that death is not necessarily a release.

Book Three: The Final Rule

Ellis and Jon need answers.
What is there to understand?
Why does it have to happen?
And what reason could ever justify losing those you love?

If only there was a simple answer. But the more questions they ask, the farther they must travel into the darkness and the things they see are not human, or even possible.
They are, in fact, Big and Terrible.

The plague is rising in Gilford. To stop it from spreading Ellis will have to embrace his destiny and Jon will have to let him go. Both men must be willing to lose everything in order to save the innocent.

It is, after all, rule number six.

Review: This story is part of a series and must be read in order. Jon and Ellis are still reeling from the events in Rules Four & Five and in this installment. They finally discover just what the Big and Terrible is. As Jon and Ellis struggle to find a solution to the evil spreading its way through Gilford they struggle with their own relationship as Jon becomes protective. Ellis has to dig deep to confront an evil that terrifies him and Jon struggles with the darkness that tries to trap him, and both have to face the reality of all the rules.

This is a brilliant ending to an incredible story; we get the answers we weren’t even looking for and a closure that leaves us in peace. I can’t stress how important it is that this series is read in order, everything that has happened in the previous books comes to an explosive end in this story, and we finally see the true face of evil. We begin to see all the connections coming to fruition, the death of Jon’s brother, the death of Jon’s friend, his unexpected stop in Gilford and then finally Rudy’s life and death. We see how each part has led to the final confrontation and then we can only hope for their survival.

Jon and Ellis’ relationship is driven to the edge again as Jon tries to shield Ellis from the danger, both men are plagued with fear as they face an unknown and they have to trust in each other. It is hard for both men as they plunge into the unknown but luckily they have a strong ally in George (ex-Sheriff), now, even George is skeptical at first but when he sees with his own eyes the evil that Jon and Ellis have tried to explain he throws his lot in and does everything he can to help them. Seeing them pulling together to face an evil that is seeping into the town is amazing and you see the strength of the characters and their determination to wipe the evil out.

As this story progresses you see a change in Ellis, as he becomes his own man, he becomes more confident and less willing to be told what to do. Ellis clearly wants to pull his own weight and be seen as an asset and not a burden. Jon finally accepts his own faults and their relationship can only get better and better. These men pull the light out of the darkness to keep their love shining it isn’t easy not by a long shot and they have many heart-breaking moments coming their way. This is a wonderfully written story, which has violence, danger, and fear that seep through the pages; there is also a much-unexpected twist that had me torn between grinning like a loon as Karma strikes and revulsion at what Jon and Elis have to face.

I recommend this to those that love stories where love is a hard traveled road, where danger is not far from your door, the evil is not what you expected and where the outcome is very unsure but a happy ending is all you hope for.

Review: This book is part of a series and must be read in order. Jon is accepting his new life with Ellis and Rudy as a new chance at life, throwing off the guilt that lingers and embracing the love he has found. Ellis has accepted Jon’s love and the beginning of a new life where he can share his frustrations and has someone to confide in, but he knows their troubles aren’t over yet. With the town bully, Lenny, gunning for them they face a long road ahead, and when tragedy strikes its Jon’s turn to be a rock as Ellis faces a despair that threatens to drag them under.

This story continues several months after The First Three Rules; we re-join Ellis, Jon, and Rudy as Jon moves in with the brothers and they are secure in the knowledge that Lenny is in jail awaiting trial. But, in a town like Gilford you never know what is just around the corner, and as Jon, Ellis and Rudy are about to find out sometimes justice doesn’t have a leg to stand on. Just in case you are reading this review and you haven’t read the first book let me give you a brief rundown of the characters: Jon, an ex-Marshal who has suffered more guilt and pain than any man can carry, and is visited by his dead brother when tragedy is about to strike. Ellis, who gave up his life at the age of twelve to look after his older mentally disabled brother and has been isolated and sheltered from the outside world, and then there is Rudy, Ellis’ brother, who is a child in a man’s body, but brings sunshine to Ellis and Jon’s lives and knows things he shouldn’t.

Oh my god! Oh my God! Adrienne Wilder what did you do! This section of My Brother’s Keeper is about to rip your heart out, stomp on it, rip it into tiny shred’s and then hand it back to you on a tarnished platter. Adrienne Wilder takes Ellis to the dark side as anger, devastation and pure dark rage begin to consume him and tempts him to tarnish his soul forever. Jon is left feeling hopeless as he tries to pull Ellis back from the edge and struggling to protect them, Jon also has to fight his own dark urgings as he is tempted by the dark side of the town. And Rudy, poor Rudy *bawls like a baby*, Rudy tries so hard but the Big and Terrible is coming and he has done all he can.

We are dragged into the darker side of the story as the evil that hovered begins to strike, we watch as despair begins to drag the characters down and we feel it. This really is a beautifully written story that lets you feel every emotion that the characters are going through, it hurts your heart as we watch the circumstances unfold and you rage at the events that let an evil man continue with his reign of terror. I’d like to say that there is a light at the end of the tunnel but I can’t, I can only hope that with the last installment of My Brother’s Keeper Jon and Ellis get the happy ending they deserve and that the evil pays for its crimes. Now I am going to discover in The Final Rule if my hopes are true, and also thank God that this trilogy was published all at the same time.

I recommend this to those who love stories where the going is never easy, where love is stretched to the limit, where the fight for justice is hard, and your emotions are beaten to death by the author.

Book One: The First Three Rules

Marshal Jon Foster lost his purpose and his sanity the day he saw the image of his dead brother. The distraction saved Jon’s life but cost the lives of innocent people including his best friend and partner. It was a price for survival Jon couldn’t live with and was sure he’d never understand.
Driven by grief and guilt he tried to escape his past by fleeing to a small town in the middle of nowhere. Only instead of peace, the memories festered.
Then the offer of a stick of gum from a stranger changes Jon’s life and puts him on a road out of the nightmare he’s trapped in.

Ellis Harper has lived the past twenty years isolated from the outside world and sole caretaker for his mentally disabled brother, Rudy. While Ellis loves his brother, he longs for a life he’ll never be able to have.
Shut away, his days consist of chores, endless cartoons, and games of Go Fish. A world that seemed to have no end until an innocent misunderstanding turns Ellis and his brother into a target for a town bully.

Review: Jon had his life shattered when what should have been an easy pick-up went wrong, he was left the only person alive because a vision of his dead brother had him freezing, and the guilt eats away at him every day. A chance meeting with Rudy and Ellis in the park in Gilford has Jon rethinking the choice he is about to make, but will he be able to overcome the guilt of the past to move forward towards a future? Ellis has spent the last twenty years isolated as he looks after his older mentally disabled brother, shunned by many of the town Ellis spends his days playing games and watching cartoons, until a chance meeting gives Ellis the chance of something more. But, just as Ellis & Jon begin to enjoy their time together, a threat comes from the town bully.

This is an incredible story of two men from very different walks of life beginning to find peace in the other. Jon has a shocking amount of guilt over what happened when his best friend and partner was killed, it eats away at him until he can take no more and it is only the bright spark he feels when he meets Rudy and Ellis that has him fighting the darkness that tries to consume him. Ellis is alone; he struggles everyday with looking after Rudy, his older mentally disabled brother, and keeping him out of trouble and with the town looking down on them he has no one to turn to and no friends. The first spark of hope for Ellis comes from Jon, a man Rudy befriends in the park, but there are others in town who want to make sure that Ellis and Rudy never find happiness.

I loved this story; it is amazingly written and at times brought tears and smiles. Rudy is brilliantly written, he is brought to life and never ignored, a childlike mind in a man’s body, and his simple thinking and actions has you forgetting just how old he really is. Ellis is an incredible man who gave up any dreams he ever had when he was only twelve, taking care of his brother has left him isolated but he would never dream of putting Rudy in a home, he might be lonely, get stressed and upset but he loves his brother unconditionally. Jon is a wounded soul, he has come to Gilford to hide rather than heal, and he is haunted by failure. These three men are wonderful and you take them all to heart, and there is something about Rudy and Jon that is just extra special.

The storyline is brilliant as we fall into something that is just a touch evil; it hovers in the background but you know there is something that is driving some actions. The characters are wonderful even those who aren’t very nice, they add a great dose of realism as the setting is 1992 in a small town and some minds were still closed to those who were gay or mentally disabled. The relationship that develops between Jon and Ellis is extra special; it touches your heart as you see Jon sinking into the comfort of Ellis and as Ellis trusts Jon not just with his brother, but also with his own innocence and heart. Their relationship is sweet and I loved how the sexual aspects were written, Ellis’ fear of sex, of failure and the lack of confidence that a man like Jon could really want him really shines through and makes you realize just how isolated he really was. Ah, while I would like to go on and on about this story I am itching to read Rule Four & Five so I will leave you with these words… GET THIS BOOK!

I recommend this to those that love a story that has characters who have a hard road to travel, finding happiness when you never expected it, fighting against bigotry and hatred, who love a story that has a thread of paranormal, and special characters who deserve all the love in the world.

Review: When Alec meets Jared, a chain of events begins that brings heartache and horror into his world. Alec is dragged from his safe world when a secret from his mother’s past comes calling, and that secret is determined to get what he wants. As his friends and family are brutally attacked Alec struggles with what is happening and even as he gets close to Jared he still finds it hard to accept the fanciful truth that Jared tells him, but Alec will have to face the truth and trust Jared if he is to beat the evil that stalks him.

This is a brilliant paranormal horror story that has pretty graphic details and a wonderful storyline. Jared discovered first-hand what Alec faces and is hoping to help Alec before tragedy strikes, but he wants more than to be just friends. Alec doesn’t know what to believe but he can’t keep away from Jared, now they face a danger that comes from the past, a past that his mother has kept well hidden. The police are looking into the disappearances of numerous people and brutal killings and there is a link to a body missing from the morgue…. and Alec, but there is no way the police would ever believe the truth even if Alec did know what was going on.

I really enjoyed this story; it called to that part of me that enjoys horror and gore. This brilliant storyline starts as boy gets set up with boy and hits it off, it then quickly moves on with the danger and horror seeping in and we discover secrets of the past. There’s a whole host of characters who are involved in this story and all their parts are important and whose point of view we also see the story from, we have Ilene (Alec’s mother) who made a mistake that now haunts her, we have Lucy (Alec’s sister) who is dragged into the horror along with her boyfriend Rene. Then we have the police detectives who are trying to piece together the clues in their cases where Alec’s name keeps cropping up.

This story is so far from your typical werewolf story. In fact, if you are looking for a sweet fluffy read with wolves finding mates and living happily ever after, after a bit of angst and conflict then don’t even think of picking up this book. But if you want something that’s dark and dangerous with bloodshed and horror then this story is a must.

I loved how this story was written, you get pulled into the story from the first pages, and it makes you keep turning the pages even when you know something horrific is coming. We see an astonishing amount of emotions in this story with guilt, fear, anger, horror, grief and heartbreak being the main contenders, we do see some happiness but not much as events seem to steamroll out of control.

The werewolf in this story is the stuff of nightmares, returning to the original folklore of them in the past where they were true monsters. This story is a part of something bigger, as you learn throughout the book, and even as they have a semblance of a happy ending you know it is far from over for them all.

I have to recommend this to those that love horror, dark paranormal, a brilliant storyline, great characters, a love that evolves even with danger and horror raining down, and an ending that makes you wonder that comes next.

Review: Well to be truthful if this story had more to it, I might actually have been able to get into. Zombies are just not what I am into. Tashawn and Kendrick were in love, in fact Tashawn had just proposed to Kendrick. After Kendrick said yes, they decided to take a walk to spend time together. They are so sweet and tender, and I feel bad for Tashawn.

During the walk, some homophobic jerks come up to them yelling and beating them. They had stabbed Kendrick to death. Tashawn dabbles into the supernatural to bring is love back. However, it didn’t go as planned. I am not really sure what one expects when they dabble into certain things that they shouldn’t, but it will shock you.

I love that they were so much in love and the fact that they wanted to be together forever. In fact, Tashawn basically proved it to everyone. It is a little story that has bits of surprising twist to it. It did keep my attention from start to end which is always a good thing. I just couldn’t find it in me to like it very much. It came very close to creeping me out.

Blurb:When it comes to the dark weavings of hoodoo magic, only a few can survive.

It’s started. Bodies have been found in the French Quarter, torn limb from limb. The undead have been seen walking. For Detective Matthew Rieves, this is the worst news he can imagine. Having spent his entire life in Orleans Parish, Matt’s no stranger to the bizarre. Though, despite the growing evidence, he still has a hard time believing in the occult. But when two hoodoo bokors vie for supremacy, it’s the innocent civilians that pay the price.

For Jesse Dalembert, he’d left New Orleans to sever his ties with hoodoo. But when a friend is brutally murdered by the bokor’s zombies, he returns, falling at once into danger and into Detective Rieves’s bed. With their lives on the line, their simmering attraction flares into a passion they can no longer deny.

Working against time, can the lovers find a way to stop the hoodoo war, or will they fall victim to the dark magic, maybe becoming zombies themselves?

Review: The Dark Bokor is a unique take on Zombies.  I found the story very original and interesting.

Jesse has tried to sever his ties with the Hoodoo community but when  his friend and ex-lover is found murdered he finds himself back in action and back  working with detective Matt Rieves the man who has been starring  in his fantasies far too long.

This story has a lot of mystery, lots of magic or hoodoo and lots of hot mansex.  Oh did I mention Zombies?

I liked the unique take on the Zombies, the New Orleans hoodoo and dark magic setting, and how the backstory and the romance and the Zombies are all wove together smoothly so that nothing was overwhelming. I also liked that it wasn’t gory.

I recommend this to anyone that likes a good mystery, hot mansex and Zombies.

Review: Wow, I’m not sure where to begin. The humor in this story is rather Christopher Moore-ish, involving a nutcase doctor, and a botched surgery. Its lucky Damien’s injured brain leaves him with super human powers because it may just save his life from his stew-making boyfriend! This story gives new meaning to the words, “I’d like to eat you up!” out of a lovers’ mouth! It was odd, twisted, sometimes funny, and just really ridiculous! I have to wonder what zombies, a human canning factory…are next… Not a romance, but an interesting read if you like ghoulish humor.

Blurb: Dale is a 23-year-old university student working on his thesis. Fortunately, rather than having to endure the interruptions and distractions at university, his “Uncle” Tom has invited Dale to stay with him at Walton Manor. In the countryside, he has plenty of space, almost continual silence, and a butler to cater to his every whim.

Dale and Tom have always had a mutual admiration for each other, and now they have the chance to explore this attraction. Yet Dale doesn’t count on falling in love with Dominic, the muscular Italian employed as Tom’s gardener.

Despite his feelings for Tom, Dale can’t help the fact that the more he sees Dominic, the more attracted he is. Unfortunately, Tom is a jealous man. Even worse, he reveals a hitherto unseen sadistic side, which frightens Dale. One night Tom’s jealousy boils over, and Dale finds himself punished for his feelings for Dominic.

From then on, Dale’s tranquil existence at Walton Manor is permanently shattered. Once things are set in motion, they are impossible to stop. After a final confrontation between Dominic and Tom, Dale discovers the most shocking truth of all.

Review: Ah, this author, this author is driving me crazy. The more I’m reading his work, the more I feel like it’s a very peculiar one. Like an acquired taste. His characters are dare I say special, unique somehow, manly, or perhaps unearthed from the deepest depth of a very perverted imagination. You will find the typical gym ridden male bodies described in there and you will find the very ordinary, simply masculine typical guy, but the difference is that you will realize through his work that every single man is real. What aren’t real are the circumstances we meet these characters.

In this book, we meet Tom and Dale. Tom is forty years old, and honestly, this character is one of my favorites at large, description wise at least. I can’t stop thinking of the way his body is described in this book. As an individual, I’m not a fan of hairy men, but there was something about Tom’s body hair, the way the words were played in the text that I couldn’t shake off of my head. Damn it, every time I read another of this author’s book I feel like this huge pervert, peeking through a peephole at something that is not meant for my eyes.

Anyway, back to this story, I cannot begin to describe my frustration. This is one of them rare authors that have me opening a damn dictionary all along the read, yet he fails to create a serious plot. It’s like the plot is simply there as a means for the sex scenes and fantasies that are desperate to get out. You encounter every hidden fetish in there, forbidden acts, gangbang rape, bare-backing and cum-dump fantasies, all tangled in a mix of coarse and crude language and surreal background.

Dale here, is working on his thesis and his “uncle” is kind enough to invite him to his manor for the duration of his work. There is this infatuation the Dale harbors for his “uncle” Tom, this childhood fantasy, and idolization that leads at a weird kind of relationship between the men. Dale confuses all that with love and therefore allows Tom way too many things. But eventually Tom over steps the mark and Dale realizes that there is no turning back to the way he once felt for the man.

So far so good even if (again) it was very surreal. However when things between Dale and Tom take the down road, Dale immediately falls in love with Dominic… However, the raw, carnal scenes left no room for any romance in this book, and so Dale’s character came along as weak and poorly structured. His entire reaction to what Tom did to him, how he leapt into falling for Dominic, how Dominic was a mere body with no personality, and how Tom transformed from a mere human to… well much more. Oh dear, as I said the plot felt like mere means to all kind of sexual fantasies being played and  in the end, the very END left me with my jaw hanging loose and me not quite so able to recover from the whole ordeal.

Bottom end as a book, story-wise, I don’t recommend it simply because there was no story worth reading in there. If, however, you’re in the mood of reading a very different kind of erotica, stripping it from all plot and baring it down to the “suck & fuck” scenes, keep in mind this is not your average erotica and you need a good stomach for this one. It is downright dirty and almost involuntarily arousing, with shocking elements and fantasies that have no place in real life, fantasies you might dare imagine but never act upon. You have been warned.

Now that being said I’m rating it 3 hearts because I’m that twisted and found this book oddly fascinating once I got my head around it.

Review: This is an awesome cover. Five friends two are couples go on a camping trip to get away. They get up the next morning and find they are in a huge stone maze. The worst part is yet to come.

This was a good story. The characters were all interesting and the plot intriguing. There are twists, turns, thrills, chills, and some pretty hot mansex.

If you like thrillers, creepy creatures, unexplained phenomenon, and hot mansex this is for you.
