Blurb: Meet me in St. Louis, Louis, bite me at the Fair!

Hot dogs and ice cream cones and electricity—oh my! The 1904 World’s Fair has it all!

The world’s spotlight is firmly fixed on St. Louis, Missouri—gateway to the West and host of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. Visitors have come from all points of the globe: to gape, to taste, to explore, and to enjoy the marvels which the World’s Fair has to offer.

William Deming is an ambitious young reporter from Utah. He sees a chance not only to visit the fair, but to make a name for himself by reporting on it. He takes a room in a boarding house close on Lindell Boulevard, close to the Fair itself. What he doesn’t count on is meeting Misha—a young and handsome Russian, whose aunt owns the boarding house.

Misha is something William has never encountered before—a vampire! Before he can wrap his head around Misha’s revelation, a man is discovered murdered at the Fair, and William wonders if his Misha is involved. The evidence is especially damning as there seems to have been a connection between the vampire and the victim. Will an old flame cause new problems for William and Misha? Will they find love at the World’s Fair? Or will theirs be doomed to be a fatal attraction?

Review: Misha lives his life as quietly as he can with the help of his aunt when a new boarder catches his eye. William has been sent to do a story on the first World Fair when his eye is caught by Misha and he decides that maybe he can do the story and still have some fun.

This is a well thought out story that has a good outline and plot. Misha has a somewhat lonely existence and he begins to long for something different. William is just covering the World Fair and falls into a dalliance with Misha. These two men seem to be a good fit for each other and fell for each other quickly and they were quite passionate towards each other.

I liked the slight mystery and the danger, but I thought that things fell into place too easily. The start of the book was a bit hard to get into but as it progressed it seemed less stiff.  It seemed contrived at times and there was one point that I really found hard to believe. I mean out of all those thousands of people they just decided it was Misha…for no reason at all.

I will recommend this to those who love historical, vampires, gentle sex and angst.

Review: I think that this was one hell of a perfect gift in my eyes.  The proceeds are going to be given to the LGBT in Florida after the tragic shooting in June. It was an amazing book and for the perfect reason.  I do admit though I just couldn’t read the ones with females in them because I don’t do girly parts at all.  However the hot men in this book made up for the girly parts in spares.

Abstract Heart by Lucie Archer ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Nick spends nearly every lunch break at the modern art museum, hoping to catch a glimpse of docent Kris. Kris has noticed the cute guy hanging around the exhibits too but never manages to approach him. It will take a matchmaking security guard to bring these two introverts together.

Thank god for friends because if it was left up to these two they wouldn’t get past hello and you can definitely see the heat between them.  It is a very cute little story about finding that one person you want to be with.

Cats and Christmas Trees: Trouble Waiting to Happen by M.A. Church ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

What’s a half human to do when Christmas rolls around? Kirk tries ignores it, but his shifter mates Tal and Dolf, being sneaky kitties, persist in finding out what’s troubling him so they can make it better.

This was the perfect Christmas story for my favorite shifters.  I love how this author just makes these two cats, well like cats.  When I received this anthology I had not even realized that this story had been included and let’s just say I jumped for joy.  Tal is the perfect omega and Dolf is the perfect alpha, then you add in Kirk and you have got one hell of a threesome.

A Chance for Hope by Deja Black ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

In the aftermath of tragedy, freelance writer Brad Truscott is drawn to ease Paul Bachman’s grief. But will Paul ever be ready to take another chance on happiness?

I think that this story will hit closer to home for those who suffered from this loss the most.  It shows the heartache, but it also shows hope.  A second chance at love and the tenderness found in each other.  I enjoyed reading it.

Changing Things by Nicole Dennis ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

Despite his allergies, Ryan puts up with the two rescue cats his boyfriend, Seth, adores. But when an especially severe asthma attack sends Ryan to the hospital, Seth realizes something has to give—either his relationship with Ryan or his guardianship of Fili and Kili.

This was a cute little story that was a blast to read.  I think Seth picked the right choice also, but you really need to read it because I am not telling.  I enjoyed reading it though.

Especially in Orlando by Troy Storm ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

When bighearted mover Dalton is hired to haul away a hot young guy’s belongings after a breakup, he can’t help returning to see how the good-looking older man is dealing with the transition. George is happy to take Dalton up on his offer of solace. But then George’s ex, Peter—aka Mr. Prissy Pout—has second thoughts, and while George isn’t interested in taking him back, he and Dalton are willing to share their experience—and more.

Now this one was more sexual then actually fun to me.  I didn’t much care for it but then that is me.  I hate to admit that I basically skimmed over the story and read parts of it.  Which for me was a bad thing because it just gave me an eye of what was going on.

Free to Love by Kris T. Bethke ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Henry is tired of hiding their relationship, but Shane is afraid to risk losing his job and his parents by coming out as gay. When his worst fears prove true, Shane finds that life outside his parents’ repressive control is so much better than anything he could have imagined.

Parents can be just as cruel as a stranger it would seem.  I felt bad for Shane but the end result rocks.  I enjoyed reading this story and will definitely be checking for these guys to have a longer story in the future, with more juicy details.

Happily Ever After, After All by L.A. Merrill ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

Once upon a time, Princess Aubergine dreamed of a fairy-tale wedding to the girl of her dreams. Things haven’t exactly worked out that way. Locked in a tower for ten years, Aubergine managed to scare off all the princes coming to rescue her. Now it’s up to her to do the rescuing—until a band of students from the local Ladies’ Academy happen upon her tower and devise a daring escape plan.

Now the story is a fantastic story, however I hate female characters so the story didn’t do anything for me.  I hate to admit that I just skimmed it and didn’t really read it.  When I received it I was told it was m/m or m/m/m romance so to my shock this came up and well you can guess.

The Importance of Pride by Ravon Silvius ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

College history professor Patrick Levine is looking for a subject for a research proposal when he discovers his granduncle’s journal. To his shock, not only was Uncle Marty gay, but he’d been at the Stonewall riot in 1969. Will learning more about his uncle’s history help Patrick face his own fears about coming out?

I just can’t imagine what his uncle went through to get where we are now.  It is still a fight for the LGBT to be considered equal and I fear what the future will be like.  This is a very sweet story of a young man who is not out but finds out that his uncle was a true believer.  I don’t know if I said any of this right, but I will tell you that this was an inspiring story.

The Insomniac Sommelier by Julie Lynn Hayes ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

Kirk Westmoreland dreams of owning his own restaurant someday, but for now he fights insomnia while working at family-owned Venezia with his control-freak older brother. After work he tries to de-stress at Sweeties, a small diner run by his sister and her wife. When Kirk meets the diner’s new server, Ashley, he ends up going home with him—to the best sleep he’s had in forever. If he can’t keep his life at Sweeties compartmentalized from his life at Venezia, Kirk will have to decide which one he’s willing to give up.

I definitely can understand insomnia.  This is a really cute little story if not a bit off, but was still a fun little story.  I just felt like it wasn’t for me though, because there was just something missing but I couldn’t figure it out.  Other than my issues, this is a cute story.

Looking for George by David C. Dawson ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

Betty’s innocent crush on actor George Clooney became something more when he saved her from a fall at the hotel she works at in London. When she discovers her Italian holiday trip will take her only a few miles from the actor’s summer villa… well, surely fate means for them to meet again.

Now the story is a fantastic story, however I hate female characters so the story didn’t do anything for me.  I hate to admit that I just skimmed it and didn’t really read it.  When I received it I was told it was m/m or m/m/m romance so to my shock this came up and well you can guess.

Love Over Lotto by Jude Dunn ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Craig Batson and Tom Rendelle have plenty of joy together but not so much money. Determined to improve their finances, Craig borrows a library book on the secrets of winning the lottery and empties their rainy-day fund to buy dozens of lottery tickets. Tom explodes when he finds out, leaving Craig to wonder if their love can survive.

This is a very cute story however it is a bit blown out.  I got a headache within the first few minutes afterwards.  As for the characters, they just seem a bit off to me.  Tom, who works blows at almost everything and then there is Craig who stays home and paints.  They don’t really have that much going for them until the lotto.  Other than those issues it is still a cute story but not really my idea of fun.

More Than His Scars by Jana Denardo ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

Facing the anniversary of the day he lost his arm while serving in the Middle East, Aaron is understandably depressed. It’s up to his lover, Rhys, to plan a special day to help Aaron see how amazing he really is.

This story has many different aspects to it, if that is the word for it.  On one sense it has the paranormal or fantasy seeing as Rhys and his children are not human.  Then you have Aaron who is not only human but was military until his arm was taken in the war.  It is a sad story with a happy tilt toit.  I am afraid that no matter how good it was, it just wasn’t for me.

Overcoming Fear by Grace R. Duncan ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

In the year since a global pandemic ravaged their world, Duncan has done everything he can to ease Mark’s fears of losing him. When a minister and his wife seek out Mark for help, Duncan sees an opportunity to show Mark another level of commitment—if Mark will dare to take it.

One is afraid of losing another person in his life, the other wants forever.  I liked this story quite a bit, no to Christmas themed but it was a lot of fun to read.  I get a kick out zombies, apocalypse and pandemic stories.  This was a lot of fun and look forward to reading a bit more from this author.

Prevailing Zzz’s by Tray Ellis ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

After eight months together, Greg wants Win to move in with him. But how can Win agree when Greg’s snoring leaves him sleep-deprived and miserable?

Let’s just say that if I had left it up to the blurb for this particular book I would have just went on past.  I believe if you love someone deep enough, then their snoring is no big thing.  It is a fun little book if not a bit quirky to me.

Pushing Back Oblivion by Alicia Nordwell ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Fighting a rapidly growing brain tumor, Cohen promises his partner, Jaime, that he’ll never give up. Through surgeries and setbacks, at times that promise and Jaime’s voice are all Cohen has to cling to.

Now this one was just a tease.  It is a sweet story but way too short to get any more than a hint of what is going to happen.  It went from one time, then to another, then two months after the fact that it left a good portion of the story out.  Other than that it was cute.

Reluctant Valentine by Xenia Melzer ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts

A best-selling thriller novelist, Dean writes romances as a relaxing hobby. But when writer’s block strikes, sexy handyman Morgan shows up to provide all the inspiration he needs.

The first thing I have to say is I could have done without the first few lines in this story.  Even if he is the author and it was just about his book, it was well gross.  I hate anything female in my story and almost just put it down to skimming this book.  Other than that we have an author who needs some inspiration and it comes to him in a sexy man.  It is a very cute love story about finding first love.  I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Taking a Chance by Renee Stevens  ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Gabe and Toby work for the same company, Gabe in the US and Toby in London. After meeting at a convention, they spend nearly every moment of their time together, but when they both have to return home, their only option is to attempt a long-distance relationship.

This was just a teaser.  Moving away from home to be with the man you love and then that is it.  It is a cute little story but I sure do wish the author might make it a longer story later.  I would love to see how these two do in the future.

Overall
Overall some of the stories rocked, some were just stories and then of course the girly parts but the basis for the book still stands.  This is to help the LGBT community and for that we need to pick up those books and start reading.  Or maybe I should say we need to start buying these stories.  I enjoyed reading them and was glad to have a extra from one of my favorite paranormal love stories mixed in.  I would definitely recommend it.

Civil War and Broken Hearts

(Rose and Thorne 02)
by

Julie Lynn Hayes

Hollywood comes to Roanoke when a major film studio announces they’re shooting part of their Civil War film at a local plantation. Vinnie is dismayed to discover that the lead actress is none other than the beautiful and popular Caroline St. Clair. Ethan and Vinnie made her acquaintance in LA the previous Halloween, while undercover, and Vinnie still hates her for hitting on his man.  Ethan reassures his partner that Roanoke is big enough for all of them to co-exist without running into one another.

But Fate has it in for Vinnie and Ethan, and they find themselves assigned to a new case involving the actress. Apparently she requested Ethan specifically, to Vinnie’s dismay. But he doesn’t have a choice, he has to play nice. It’s small consolation to Vinnie that his new undercover identity involves Hollywood heartthrob Troy McGarrett, who is very handsome and openly gay. Troy isn’t shy about letting Vinnie know he finds him attractive.

Jealousy abounds in the second book of the Rose and Thorne series, and time is not on Vinnie and Ethan’s side. If they don’t solve the case before the film shoot is done, there’s a good chance they’ll be separated for the first time since they were partnered.  Assuming Vinnie doesn’t kill Caroline St. Clair himself.

Vinnie Delarosa and Ethan Thorne are partners—on and off the clock. Federal undercover detectives, they’re part of a covert task force designed to promote goodwill between the feds and local authorities. They lend an unobtrusive helping hand wherever it’s needed. No credit required.

Vinnie and Ethan work primarily in the Southeast region of the United States and live together in Richmond, Virginia. A mugger problem brings them to Roanoke, where Vinnie is thrown out as bait to catch the man who’s been snatching purses in a city park, but they end up with more than they bargained for. Why is Vinnie always the one who has to wear the dress? Ethan says it’s because Vinnie looks much prettier in a skirt. How can he argue with that?

Expecting to return to Richmond afterward, Vinnie and Ethan find themselves assigned a new case instead. They are to go undercover at The Stroll, one of the biggest gay nightclubs in Roanoke. Someone is terrorizing both the customers and the performers. Could they be dealing with a hate crime? Someone has to protect the drag queens of Roanoke, so it’s Vinnie and Ethan to the rescue!

Review: This is a story of heartbreak and loss yet over time learning to live again with someone else and the coming to terms with the past and betrayal. I loved both Alexx and Raoul, wolf shifter. Raoul’s pain was so intense I could actually feel the loneliness and sadness with each word and detail. My heart broke for him at what he had gone through. I was hoping throughout the story he would be able to move forward eventually and find happiness again because that amount of pain is not good for anyone.

Alexx intrigued me as well as had me laughing when he went to Charisma, a nightclub owned by Raoul, with an older friend and a fake ID. I was sure he would not have been allowed to enter. He seemed sure of himself yet a little wary of things which were to be expected after what happened between Raoul and Alexx.

Alexx wants to be an investigative journalist but works in the mail room. The whispering on the wind not to mention the atmosphere of the book at times left a spooky impression which had me on the edge of my seat as the story progressed.

I was horrified to learn of what happened to Raoul’s previous lover Jamie and the reason why someone setup Raoul to be blamed for it. Such a senseless reason for killing someone if you ask me, but that is sometimes the way the story goes.

I really felt, all throughout the story, that I was witnessing things as they happened as there were fantastic details all throughout. Not to mention the emotional aspect had me going through all the emotions.

I would highly recommend this fantastic story to anyone. I absolutely loved it and am looking forward and very excited to read the next book in the series.

Review: This is a cute, sexy and sweet short story. At first I thought it would end a bit differently but I was so glad that it didn’t. It talks of sweet beginnings and teenage dreams.

Michael had opted out of going to the prom, why should he didn’t have a date. So he decided to work the night away. He had the hots for one of the kids at school but figured he would never have the chance. Till that dream showed up a school in pink heels and a black mini. Talk about a hot sight and even better night.

It makes for a great quick read. I had a blast reading it but it needed so much more to make it perfect. A girls desire to explore the old house, finds some heels that brought back memories.

I would recommend reading it, especially if you love old romantic times.

But now her place in his heart has been unexpectedly challenged. Her new driver, Ryan Saunders, is the embodiment of all Sam’s fantasies.

But there’s a reason Ryan never talks about his past. And when Ryan’s job is threatened, Sam’s well-meaning intervention puts both Ryan and Bess in deadly danger.

Review: I really, really wanted this book to work for me. And it was so promising, the beginning so much fun. I actually had to grab my sides at times to keep for falling apart with laughter. That only lasted until chapter six, aka 1/3 of the book. It was there after chapter seven that things started going downhill for me and I really began to feel like I fell in that damn rabbit-hole, a hole I never managed to quite get out off.

So first, let me start by saying that the writing and the humor was very great. Tim was that kind of character with that kind of snark that simply drags you in and doesn’t let go. He was the perfect character for me, one I could easily get lost in and be my favorite. I didn’t even mind Sonny’s little kid in a big man’s suit persona. Somehow, Sonny’s obliviousness and Tim’s reaction to him were a blast. Seriously, this story had so, so much potential to become a hell of a laugh till the very end.

However, the plot really ruined it with the surreal and ludicrous scenes. The rest of the cast was so much over the top, which I couldn’t take them in stride as much as I tried to. You can’t have everybody, and I literally mean everybody, be stupid, period. You can’t have crimes going on in that kind of capacity and let them roll like that by simply attaching the label humor on them. Some things become unbearable when they veer past reality so much.

If one or two supporting characters had a bit intellect in them, this story would be way different, but as it is it became a drag, challenging every idea of a comedy ever. It was more like those TV shows were everyone and everything is a satire of reality. Hmm, now that I think of it, if this read was labeled as satire I’d be more inclined to give it a higher rating.

The romance itself was great on the early chapters, but again it took such a fast turn from get-off-of-me-you-big-baboon to I’ll-love-you-for-ever that I wonder I didn’t get a whiplash. Also, it lacked information. Toward the end of the book, we get some insight on the reasons Sonny was an ex in the first place, but it did nothing to diminish the fact that we were on the dark for most of the read. I simply wish things were not so flat and shallow all the time. I feel there should be a balance and that was not accomplished at all, crippling the story and leaving you thinking, “Is this book ever going to end?”

So in the end, as much as it was intriguing at first, the book failed to achieve its goal, failed to entertain me and make me close its pages with a smile on my face.

Blurb:  Florian Donati has an almost childlike innocence in the body of a god. Unaware of his charms, he enjoys his life, working in his family’s drycleaning business in Prohibition-era Chicago. He loves his job, loves singing Italian opera, and loves the people in his life, including his friend Loria and the notorious gangster Alphonse Capone. Still, he dreams of having adventures and finding love.

Nick Giannakopoulos is a young Greek immigrant who’s come to America to live with his uncle’s family, working with his cousin in the family pharmacy. There are many things he’d love to do, including going to a party in a speakeasy that he and his cousin Milo have been invited to. But it’s on Christmas Eve, so family obligations preclude their going — until Fate intervenes, and Nick and Florian end up at the same speakeasy in Romeoville and find themselves sitting at the same table.

Is instant attraction a basis for a long-term relationship? Or is this just a passing Christmas fancy? Previously published by Silver Publishing.

Review:  A romantic first time love story.

This is a fairly short Christmas read, with the added interest of a peek at the Prohibition era.

Florian likes singing opera, and works in his family’s dry cleaning business. Nick works in the family pharmacy. They also share a similar hero-worship for the gangsters of the day, especially Al Capone. The fates conspire to bring the young men together in a speakeasy on Christmas Eve. Nick is instantly smitten with the gorgeous Florian, and Florian equally with the handsome Nick. On the cusp of sharing a public kiss, the speakeasy is raided. Staying the night at the house of a friend, the two young men find first love together.

It’s a beautifully romantic tale. Nick worries that he will lose Florian just as they’ve met. Florian has no such doubts and plans their happy ever after. I hope if the author writes any more about this gorgeous couple, they get it.

If you like first love, romance and Christmas reads, this is for you.

Review:  I will have to admit to having a hard time with this story. While a time frame was never given, it is set in the time of silent movies, but a gay relationship is accepted and then there was the magic of Myron added to the mix. Things of this nature as well as the mix of German words thrown in, for me, made it hard to read and follow the story. That said, there were several very enjoyable and even funny moments. And the characters were quirky, but overall well-rounded as people. The story itself flowed along, moving at a nice pace from start to finish.

Doll and Vitto together, are a committed pair, happy with each other, their jobs and their lives. The only problem is a co-worker of theirs that wants Vitto for himself. Doll rolls his eyes at Myron and his claim of being a wizard, until the day Myron uses his wand to zap them to a time in the land of dinosaurs. What follows is a series of Myron’s mistakes and triumphs using his magic. One of which is Myron’s zapping a monkey type creature, who turns into a more human type creature they all name Charlie. Charlie then leads them on a journey to the Professor in the hopes that he can get Doll, Vitto and Myron back home to their time.

Can Myron and the Professor get them back to the right time? Will Charlie make to the future as a human? Because staying in the time of the dinosaurs is not an option, history says so. The dinosaurs no longer exist in the time the characters live. So history will repeat itself.

The ending leads me to believe there may be another book coming that will pick up where this one ends. To say anymore would be giving spoilers.

Review: Taz is left miserable when he is dumped during a date on Earth. and what’s worse he is left stranded with no clothes, nowhere to stay and no way home until sexy Reed comes to his rescue. Reed is doing a last-minute delivery, when he finds himself with an armful of sexy man. taking pity on the young man who seems so lost and alone, he takes him for coffee, which quickly leads to more. but just what is Reed to do when he discovers Taz is an alien?

Be My Alien is a cute light-hearted story that will warm you up with its sweetness. Reed has been too busy with his boutique to really have a relationship. Meeting Taz when he is dropping a last-minute gift off to a client, pulls him into being spontaneous. Taz is sweet and naïve, but far from innocent. Being dumped on a date leaves him with no clue what to do next. meeting Reed has him acting without thinking and during an intimate moment reveals all of himself to Reed whose reaction scares him.

I did enjoy this story and Taz is such a cutie and Reed so charming that you can’t help but fall a little in love with them. the story is a little basic in a way, Taz and Reed meeting when Taz is left stranded, instant lust and then love following quickly… of course, there’s that little bit extra of Reed discovering Taz is an alien and Taz’s original date, Vorlod, trying to throw a spanner in the works.  The sex between them is wow and you have to watch out for Taz’s tail. This is a great story to read while relaxing out in the sun, or in my case stuck in the back of a car during a traffic jam on the way home from the beach 😉

I recommend this to those who love cute aliens, charming rescuers, hot sex, a touch of selfish nasty baddie, finding love and a very happy ending.
