Title: A Werewolf for Christmas Series: N/A Author: Penelope Rivers Genre: Shape-Shifter/ Werewolves Length: Novella (86 Pages) Publisher: Amira Press (December 26, 2012) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥ 3Hearts Blurb: Italian born Lorenzo Contadino has always had three goals in life. He wanted to come to America, be a veterinarian, and live in a small town. Now, as a recent graduate from New York University veterinary school, he has accomplished two of his three goals. When he gets the call to become a veterinarian in Adams, Oregon, he is excited to take the job. Unfortunately, they only gave him half the facts.
When Lorenzo gets to Adams, he realizes that not only is it an all werewolf town, but they want him to become one of them. The only one that can convince Lorenzo to stay is the sexy, smart Rick McDonald, but only because he’s the one person dead set on pushing him out of town.
Review: This was a sweet story, but for me it just not only seemed rushed but also was too short for my liking. It was pretty good though. I wasn’t too sure what to think about it at first. Lorenzo was not only human but he had spent most of his adult time in New York. Always wanting to be in a small town, he had chosen Adams. It was cute and very much welcoming. A little to welcoming it would seem. The town was full of werewolves.
After wrecking his rental, he swore up and down he saw werewolves. So to his surprise everyone in Adams was a werewolf. Shocked to the core, he was still determined to stick around. It also might have something to do with a gorgeous werewolf that came off as kind of a jerk and didn’t want him around.
Rick knew he had been an ass but he had his reasons. One of them was fear. I found that this story has a great plot and story line however; it needed to be spread out a bit more with more detail to it. It should have made it a little bit harder for Lorenzo to get his head around werewolves and Rick needed to do more. I don’t really know how to say it. This story was just missing something important to me. Don’t get me wrong it was very good but for me it just seemed rushed.
I would recommend reading it especially if you love werewolves, feisty vets, stubborn men, a quirky old man and a bit of surprise and excitement.

Title: Misery Hailing Down Series: Shifting Reality, #4 Author: Flynn Eire Genre: Paranormal Length: Novel (186 Pages) Publisher: Supernatural Script (April 28, 2014) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5Hearts Blurb: Trying to recover from events during the evacuation to the stronghold, Konrad Floriano, Royal Guard trainee and reluctant play toy, is just getting his life back on track. Loyal and dedicated to his King and people, when the unspeakable is desired of him, he sacrifices himself for the good of all.
Aristotle Royal, eldest of the belis, chooses Konrad—the sexy, bright-eyed feline—as the stronghold’s offering for their services. Trapped by tradition, need, and rules, it’s not how he wishes to meet someone so special.
Used to only being wanted for his body, Konrad is shocked when this time it garners him respect and even gives him a chance to grow in his role among the felines, from protector to diplomat.
But when the six Royal brothers find out they were called upon for a different reason than they understood, the stakes raise while fears grip the stronghold.
Betrayal, mystery, and the desire to belong continue to throw obstacle after obstacle in Konrad and Aristotle’s way. Will they be able to find their connection, their place with each other, or will misery continue to hail down?
Review: This is the fourth book in the Shifting Reality series and they need to be read in order.
It is a pretty amazing story and I look forward to many more books from this amazing author. It was told in such a way that had me laughing my ass off at parts and in tears at others. I felt bad with the way Konrad felt. He comes off as so sweet, tender, and very caring. However, he sees himself in such a different way that it will draw you in and have you wishing that you were there to comfort him.
Konrad was known throughout the camp as the camp whore, but that was actually the way he saw himself. In truth, many were too nervous to approach him the way they wanted to. He had not had many lovers, but it was the way he went from bed to bed. He had finally had it, that is until he met Ari. Ari and his brothers were known for needing sex for energy. However, it isn’t exactly what it seems.
Ari had taken one look at Konrad and wanted him. Not for just the energy that he could give him and his brothers, but because he was falling for the little man. The problems arise when there is so much miscommunication that Konrad wants to run and chances going feral. Shape shifters when hurt tend to go somewhere and lick their wounds. However, it is not just with Ari that the communication is lacking both with everyone around. What do you expect from a camp that has all sorts of paranormal’s in it?
There are many dangers in the camp and one of them is family. Now all they need to do is to protect their King, keep Konrad from going insane, and make the humans see them as equals. I loved this book and cannot wait to get my hands on the next story. It broke my heart the way Konrad felt throughout the whole book. I think he was my favorite character in the whole series. I loved the way their feelings come through so clearly, except of course to those who matter.
I got a kick out of reading this book and I would recommend reading it. Especially if you love sexy men, magical beings, shape-shifters, danger, excitement, surprise and hot sex. I loved how the story just seemed to flow right off the pages of the book.
Title: Yakuza Courage Series: The Way of the Yakuza #2 Author: H.J. Brues Genre: Contemporary/ Military/Interracial Length: Novel (336 pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (August 1st, 2014) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥4 Hearts Blurb: Sequel to Yakuza Pride
Ex-Navy SEAL Brendan O’Farrihy enrolls in kendo classes to investigate a Honolulu dojo acting as a front for a Yakuza syndicate. Or at least that’s what Brendan’s client, Senator Harris, believes.
Through his kendo instructor, the cocky, short-fused, gorgeous Kinosuke Yonekawa, Brendan learns the criminals who are supposedly using the senator’s son, Kenneth, to expand their activities into the US, seem to have severed any Yakuza connections. The jaded, soul-scarred former soldier is captivated by the loyalty these gangsters show each other and the way they protect Ken like a tight military unit. Brendan wonders why the senator lied to him, and what the Yakuza are shielding Ken from.
When Ken disappears, Brendan suspects foul play and decides to help the man he is falling for, Kinosuke, and his friends, find Ken. But when Kinosuke discovers Brendan has been on the senator’s payroll, all bets are off.
Review:Kuso, this book was awesome! What’s even more awesome is that I learned to swear in yet another language and I know it’s going to stick with me forever. Silliness aside, YakuzaCourage is a mix of everything I love in a book.
Funny, smart-assed characters? Check!
Proud and honest Yakuza? Hot and troubled navy SEALS? A good plot? Check, check and check!
This was the second book in The Way of the Yakuza series and it picks up no long after the end of the first book. I strongly recommend to start with book one if you want to completely understand the plot in Yakuza Courage. The guys are all in the US now and working hard to become legal residents. I loved all of them in the first book and I really enjoyed learning more about them. This is told from three points of view throughout the book and it alternates between Kinosuke, Brendan, and Kotaro; let me tell you their unique ways of thinking and of perceiving the mix of cultures in Hawaii is extremely funny and interesting.
Kinosuke Yonekawa and the rest of his friends and ex members of the Yakuza family have recently moved to the US of A and are working at the dojo owned by Kenshin-san. This book is not as dark as the first one but it doesn’t lack in action. In fact, this book was so action packed it constantly kept me on my toes. The author does an incredible job at showing the differences between the American and Japanese cultures.
It’s very difficult for the guys to integrate into the American society and their struggles are real and, for people like me who had to go through it all, sometimes very hard to read. Kinosuke, as an ex-Yakuza, has a very hard time figuring out who he is now. All he’s known since he was young was how to be a Yakuza, and now that he gave that up, he feels that without the Yakuza name he is nothing. He lacks self-confidence and at times, it was very hard for me to read the way he perceives himself; I just wanted to give him a hug…
“Fuck if he knew why he was so stupid, but he’d never been bright to begin with, and nobody said that moving from Japan to Hawaii was supposed to make you smarter. He wasn’t intelligent like the boss—or even Kitahara—he wasn’t as tough as Shinya, or as good a marksman as Tachibana. He was just a wild card, more or less like Kotaro, very good to be used as a gofer if he got step-by-step instructions and, in his case, very convenient for a holiday fling, easy to leave behind before moving on to more serious engagements in the mainland. “
Kotaro is the youngster, the little “brother,” whom Shigure has been raising since he was a child. All Kotaro has ever wanted was to be old enough to become one of the much respected Yakuza, so now that this is no longer an option, he feels lost. He tried hard to integrate and belong with the rest of the teenagers at the school in Hawaii he now attends, but he is treated badly. He joins the bullies, becomes part of their group, and does anything he needs to in order to feel like he belongs.
Kinosuke is frustrated with him because Kotaro ignores his responsibilities at the dojo and often leaves to do one thing he truly enjoys: surfing. But hanging out with the bad boys means he needs to prove he’s one of them and Kotaro soon learns that every action has consequences and that he can involuntarily hurt those, he loves the most.
Brendan is an ex-navy SEAL who is hired by Senator Harris to gather as much information as possible on the Yakuza family. He enrolls in kendo classes in order to investigate the dojo and his sensei is none other than the beautiful Kinosuke. The chemistry between those two is off the charts and I really enjoyed the progress of their relationship.
The cultural differences between the two make things complicated and it’s a real delight to watch them learn more about each other. The elegance and finesse of the Japanese culture made Brendan seem like an elephant crashing his way through the new territory. The relationship that forms between these two is short-lived because the truth always finds a way to come out. When Brendan’s real motivations for getting close to Kinosuke in the beginning are found out, Brendan finds that he has a lot of groveling to do if he wants to win Kinosuke back.
When Kenshin-san is kidnapped, the Yakuza and the SEALS must learn to work together and most of all, respect and trust each other, if they want to be successful. The constant banter between the characters is hilarious and their sarcasm is spot on. I especially liked how hard Kinosuke fought his attraction towards Brendan, it made me laugh the way he was trying to convince himself and others that there’s nothing about Brendan he likes.
His eyes felt about to pop out of their sockets. “But, Boss, he’s not even handsome. He’s just this pasty-faced, freckled redhead!” “You don’t like his blue eyes?” “Green. They’re green.” Kinosuke understood his mistake as soon as he closed his big mouth—he didn’t need Matsunaga’s knowing smile to confirm it. “So you’ve noticed the color of his eyes,” the bastard said. “And his freckles.” “I teach him every Wednesday and Friday, I can’t help seeing his fucking face.”
The only complaints I have is that maybe the book was a bit too long. If it were 50 pages less, it would have been truly perfect. Also, the way the transition was made between scenes wasn’t ideal. One moment they’re trying to escape and fight for their lives, the next it’s all over and they’re in the hospital. Ummm, no, that’s not good enough. I want to read the whole thing; I don’t want to imagine how it happened.
I recommend this to every reader that enjoys an action packed book, cultural clashes between amazing characters, banter, and sarcasm throughout the book that will entertain and amuse you until the end.

Intense and powerful ritual. Filled with hot sex as Thierry and Sebastian claim each other for all time. Well written with amazing details.

Jethro’s never had a boyfriend before, but the two men instantly form a bond. Jethro is taking his very first steps in displaying affection openly. Bart’s focused on becoming an artist. The immediate friendship between them surprises them both.

After getting help from his friends Ralph and Frank, he goes to the bathhouse with them and later meets Bartholomew Moreton and artist. It’s instant attraction for them both.
Very sweet story of how two men help each other overcome the way they’ve been treated and their fears. I loved how they encouraged each other and helped in any way they could.
Well written and some hot sex between Jet and Bart added spice to the story.
Great read.

Review: This is part of a series and they need to be read in order. It was a fascinating story and I was glad to have had a chance to read it. I love the way the felines are actually sweeter then the wolves. They show so much promise and their love for one another makes it even better. Most packs and prides keep separated for some crazy reason, yet Nate’s pride takes in all feline shifters. I don’t think they ever expected to take in a wolf though.
Derick was not a strong wolf in fact I would say he is an omega, although they don’t really give him a title. However, when he heard his alpha talking to the beta’s he knew he had to step in. Here his alpha was talking about going after a group of feline shifters and he had to help them. He knew that if he got caught that his alpha would kill him and the chances that the felines would kill him on site was always there in his mind. What he had not expected was to find his mate.
Nate is a jaguar shifter and he has just found his mate. Now he had several things to do, one in which was to get his little mate to agree. Not only would it keep him safe in the pride but also he just wanted the man. Nate has one little problem and that is he works to hard. So it was up to Derick to show the man how to have fun.
I loved Nate but Derick won my heart. He is not as strong as the others are but he would give up his life to help a group of shifters he did not know. I also loved his quirky attitude and feisty ways. He is a great character that made the story so much better. I loved this book not only because it has two very sexy men, but feline shifters, wolf shifters, powerful alpha’s, feisty mates, danger, excitement and some hot love scenes. If you love all of that and more than you would love this book.
I would definitely recommend reading this book. I loved it and cannot wait to get my hands on the next story. It had captured my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end.

Title: A Taste for Poison Series: Memory of Scorpions, #3 Author: Aleksandr Voinov Genre: Fantasy / Military Length: Novel (265 pages) ISBN: 9781626491557 Publisher: Riptide Publishing (October 13th 2014) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥4.5Hearts Reviewer: Thommie Blurb: Even a king gets stung when he reaches for a scorpion.
After barely surviving an assassination attempt, King Adrastes is a changed man—one who mistrusts even his allies and friends. He readies his empire for war against an enigmatic enemy, the Elder of Vededrin, but not everyone approves. While courtiers dare only to whisper dissent, an outrider called Death foments rebellion in the mountains, aided by a prophecy that promises he’ll stop the Black King.
Kendras—former lover to Adrastes and leader of the Scorpions—is sent with his elite mercenary force to bring Death to justice. But when Kendras learns who’s hiding behind the mask, he must choose between his lover Graukar, newly appointed general to the king—and King Adrastes himself.
With no man to call master, the Scorpions could flee the danger and intrigue. But Kendras cannot abandon the man he once loved—or the man he’s growing to love—without first uncovering the real threat to the Empire.
Review: I think it took me forever to find the time and finally finish this book. I seriously hated real life for stealing my time away, but I made it and *sigh* now I’m going to have to go over yet another book-hangover. It’s a thing with Voinov’s books and me, happens almost every time.
A Taste for Poison is the third and final book of the Memory of Scorpions universe, though rumour has it that Voinov is considering writing some shorts about some characters. As a fan, I truly hope it’ll happen.
So back to this book, yet again we were graced with a strong story, capable of grabbing your brain and imprisoning it in the depths of the plot. Action, blood, gore. Love, lust, passion. Jealousy, pain, fury. Intrigues, betrayals, back-stabbings.
More often than not, I felt like living in the story and I can’t begin to tell you how wonderful a feeling that is. The intensity of the storytelling is spectacular and leaves you without breath. Expect heart palpitations, heartbreaks, and even a tear shedding or two. Also, expect the sizzling hot passion and the one-of-the-kind love manifestation Voinov is so famous for being able to recreate in writing. And if you think you won’t get bat-shit-crazy mad with characters and events, think again.
The story itself takes a turn and what we suspected in book #2 became reality. It shifted from having Adrastes as the main person of Kendras’s interest to Graukar and while that was expected it managed to shock us with what Graukar suffers in the path of Adrastes’s fury. It will make you cringe and shudder, but it’s well worth it and raises the tension of the story way above high. It made Kendras look so damn good in my eyes too and I think it was about time, as he left me with an uneasy feeling in book #2.
Other than that, I don’t think I need to point out the quality of this book. Anyone who has read a book from Riptide knows to expect only the best. Wonderful editing work, fonts and presentation always making you feel like you’re reading a paperback. There are times I wonder why I can’t smell the pages and I laugh at myself. But you get the point. It’s so nice to have to focus only in the story without having minor details, such as typos or poor proofing, take your concentration away.
In the end, all there is to add here is; if you are not acquainted with the Memory of Scorpions universe I strongly recommend it to you.
Title: Elliot’s Heart Song Series: White Horse Clan, #4 Author: Lynn Stark Genre: Paranormal / Ménage a Trois Length: Novella (129 pages) Publisher: Siren-BookStrand, Inc (November 13th 2014) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts Blurb: Elliot learned a lot about the world around him after visiting his brother Sam on the farm where he lived with his mates. Humans weren’t alone. It was both shocking and amazing. There were all sorts of beings, including six gargoyles, brothers who had once been men. Cursed, they were destined to live the rest of eternity as creatures that only lived in darkness. Two of the gargoyles were his mates, his loves, and he was determined that Francois and David not give up hope that they could be men once again.
Living the cursed life of a gargoyle for centuries, Francois and David had never held any hope of the spell being broken and becoming men again. They live and die each and every day. Though they accept the fact that they have a mate, they refuse to complete the mating with the handsome human. Elliot deserves more than they can give him.
Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.
It has been a year since Elliot had learned about the paranormal world, and about his mates. Brothers Francois and David along with their other siblings were cursed a long time ago to be gargoyles. They never expected to have a fated mate. They have held out for the past year from claiming Elliot because they didn’t think it was fair to Elliot. Elliot on the other hand doesn’t care what his mates are. He sees behind the scary forms they wear and still loves and wants them.
The three men have fallen in love even before actually mating. They have had a year of nights together learning about each other. Elliot looks forward to every night to spend time with Francois and David. Elliot does all he can to make his mates feel special and loved. He does things for them like getting their favored foods. He even has the alpha of the clan help build his mates and their brothers specially build homes for them to live in.
I loved this book. It had a real fairy tale feel to it, albeit with a twist or two or three. The relationship that has developed between the three men is in the start just sweet and a bit sad. Once things get rolling, they are steaming up the pages. I think David was my favorite out of the threesome. He was hilarious with his bottomless pit stomach and his love of kitten and puppy videos. Francois had a more serious and steadying influence, While Elliot was somewhere in between the two. But he let nothing stop him from getting his mates and proved he would stand his ground and fight for them.
This was a great addition to the series and I am looking forward to more releases.

Title: Secrets Series: The Angel Pack, #2 Author: Maggie Walsh Genre: Paranormal Length: Novella (175 pages) Publisher: Siren-BookStrand, Inc (September 10th 2014) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 4.5 Hearts Blurb: Secrets from Gabriel’s past haunt him and hold him back from claiming his mate. His internal struggle has always caused him to keep to himself. But this struggle is giving Taylor mixed signals, and a whole lot of pain. Gabriel won’t tell Taylor that they are mates, but he doesn’t know that Taylor already knows.
The pain from his mate’s rejection causes Taylor to spin out of control and in return, he lashes out at everyone, including his best friend Jesse.
Taylor holds a big secret that he tries to deal with alone. With new friends, late night parties and a lot of alcohol, he decides to leave the pack, Jesse, and Gabriel behind to keep his secret hidden. But by keeping his secret from the ones he loves, it will cause them to lose him forever.
Can Gabriel face his demons in time to save Taylor? Or will he be too late and spend eternity alone?
Review:This book is part of a series and should be read in order.
Taylor pops off the screen. He is a vibrant smart ass. But he also hides so much behind his quick wit and big mouth. He is happy for his best friend Jesse for mating the alpha Micah. However when Gabriel doesn’t own up to being his mate it makes Taylor believe there is something wrong with him. Taylor feels like a throw away that no one wants. He also keeps a secret from everyone until it is almost too late to save him.
Gabriel wants Taylor so much. But Gabriel is very shy and hides behind an emotionless mask, so no one gets close. Gabriel has no clue how to talk to Taylor at first. Gabriel has so many issues, least of which is believing his father telling him, all his life, he was worthless. So instead of claiming Taylor he says nothing. Which only convinces Taylor that even his own mate doesn’t want him. When the chips are down and the worst possible thing is happening the whole pact pulls together to help solve the problem.
Each character has their own unique personality that gives something to the story. Either emotional support or to bring laughter, or they all have something to contribute. There are few editing mishaps, but they do not distract from the overall story. There is the relationship of Gabriel and Taylor, but there is also a broader storyline overall that is slowly opening up. What it means yet is not fully seen in this book. But get the feeling something big is coming down the pipeline.
I love the world the author has made and look forward to reading more in this series.

Review:Disclaimer: I have not yet read book 1 in this series (but I will be going back to read it).
WOW! I have to be honest that I wasn’t sure if I would like this book based on the title…but this is an absolute must read!! When you read the story, the title will make perfect sense and bring a smile to your face.
Let me get the basics out of the way first – the writing in this book is really good. I am a Nazi when it comes to grammatical and spelling errors and I found none in this book. I have never had a personal experience with eating disorders so I cannot speak to any of the technicalities about it. My review is based solely on the entertainment value of the book.
This story touched me on several different levels…as a mom, as a friend of gay couples that has suffered bullying for their sexual orientation and as a human being that believes all people should be treated equally.
Dane suffered at hands of his parents for most of his life, being subjected to physical, sexual, verbal and emotional abuse. Even though he has lived through all this abuse and had to grow up pretty quickly because of his fame, he has an innocence and childlike essence that just makes you want to hug him. He has no filter and says whatever comes to his mind regardless of the consequences.
Thankfully he has surrounded himself with friends that can support and care for him and who can help him learn how to be comfortable in social situations. I personally love his lack of filter as I lack one myself. Regrettably, those around him are easily hurt and don’t always understand his comments as ignorance instead of malice.
I don’t want to give too much away, but I absolutely love the way Bas, Adam and Ru help him heal from not only his eating disorder, but the effects of 12 years of abuse. These guys are truly great friends to him.
Bas is just as broken as Dane. His only advocate has been his grandmother whom he just lost. His family is absolutely horrible. He has been bullied and abused. He hides behind his snarky comments and flamboyant behavior. Fortunately for him, Dane sees through that protective layer to the man Bas really is and loves him for it. The 2 of them balance each other and make a great pair – even if they were to remain just friends, forever.
I’m hopeful Bas and Dane are able to follow through with the life plans that Bas has as I think that would be an inspiration for all the troubled teens they come in contact with.
Adam and Ru obviously have a history that is told in book 1 but it is not necessary to read that book before reading this book. As I stated, after falling in love with this book I will be going back to book 1 because I do think that information would help understand some of their quirks in this book.
Tommy is one of Ru and Dane’s ex-band members and plays a pretty big role in this book. He is a good friend to all these guys and wants to help all of them. Unfortunately, he is just as lost as Dane and Bas are but his unraveling takes place over the entire story and leaves us not so patiently waiting for book 3 for his story.
Another 2 characters that I’m hoping we’ll see more of are Paige and Marissa. I can’t say too much about either of them without giving too much away but they both play integral parts of the story that I would like to see more of in future books.
This book is very touching and will stay with you for a long time. It is definitely one you must read.

Title: The Hit Man Cometh, 2nd edition Series: N/A Author: Edward Kendrick Genre: Paranormal / Crime & Mystery Length: Novella (158 pages) ISBN: 978-1-78430-313-6 Publisher: Totally Bound Publishing (December 12th, 2014 / Early Download November 14th 2014) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts Reviewer: Leigh Blurb: Mick is a hit man sent after Gavin. Can Gavin, an ex-conman and a shifter, convince Mick they should join forces before Mick kills him?
Mick Whalen is a hit man hired to kill Gavin Wilde. However, when he tracks Gavin to a remote mountain cabin, he discovers that killing the coyote shifter is not in the cards. Especially when Gavin offers sex as an incentive to spare his life—an offer Mick does not refuse.
At Gavin’s insistence, they find out who hired Mick before someone else is sent to finish the job. The most probable person is a vampire with an ax to grind because of something Gavin did to him in the past. With the help of Gavin’s bear shifter friend Torben, and Torben’s vampire friend Brynja, they set out to stop the vampire—perhaps permanently.
Mick and Gavin decide to join forces since, as Gavin points out, he can teleport Mick away after a hit. The contracts come, and their rough bouts of sex heat up in the process.
However, they’re almost killed on a job—a job no one knew about except Mick’s friend and handler Johnny. When Johnny is murdered, they team up with the two other hit men who also once worked for Johnny, to find and eliminate his killer as well.
With death and destruction now both men’s way of life, will it draw them closer together—or destroy what has become more than just a friendship?
Reader Advisory: This book contains light BDSM.
Purchase Link: https://www.totallybound.com/the-hit-man-cometh Review: Gavin is a 180-year-old coyote shifter and Mick is the human assassin sent to kill him. When the planned killing goes out the window, they decide to team up and track down the person who ordered the hit. From there, things lead to an unusual partnership between Gavin and Mick. Along the way, the reader learns some interesting things about paranormals. I liked that the author gave different powers to the shifters and vampires than usual norm used in the genre. Like the ability for shifters to teleport or “air coyote” as they jokingly called it.
The relationship between Gavin and Mick is not what I would call romance. Instead, they build a partnership. At first, it is just for them to track down the person who hired Mick to kill Gavin. Once that is done, they decide to partner up in Mick’s business and to keep giving each other what they need sexually.
The sex between them is what I would term rough sex and not so much BDSM. There is mostly hard spanking, bondage, and some pain play. The sex scenes are short and to the point. There is no real build up or foreplay. And they do become repetitive to me. They are basically all the same. What does grow between them is a trust to have each other’s backs and respect for each other.
Overall, I liked the storyline idea. The writing style was very clean and concise. However, I found myself easily distracted from the book. There was no pull for me to “have” to finish the story as soon as possible. There is no real emotional aspect to this story. These men do not love each other. Gavin and Mick are not looking to be saved from a bad life by love. They purposely team up to continue killing people and having sex with each other. That is really all they are looking for, to not be alone.
I guess I am a romantic at heart. So this story did not give me the happily ever after in love feeling. I need the emotional connection and this one did not give it to me. Even with the great writing technique, I was left unsatisfied.

Review: This book is part of a series and should be read in order.
Micah is the Alpha of the Angel pack. A pack he started 200 years ago that is made up of wolves that either were kicked out or left their home packs for being gay. On a night out with his pack mates, he hears Jesse singing for the first time at a strip club. But Jesse is a slow to give in right away, as he is leery. Just when things seem to be moving along threats from others, try to destroy the mating before it can happen.
There are the normal elements of shifter mating. Instant attraction and need to mate. Micah is the typical larger than life alpha and wants it all now. Micah pushes Jesse to hard and he gets skittish and almost leaves. So it is not a unique take on the werewolf world. Yes, Micah is the big tough Alpha but all he really does want to love and take care of this mate and make Jesse happy. Jesse has been hurt badly in the past, first by his family, and then by others he thought he could trust. So trusting Micah takes some doing.
What drives this book are the characters, the conflicts, and connections that happen among them. The secondary characters are just as interesting as the MCs. Taylor is off the wall crazy and I loved him the first time he jumped off the page. The friendship Jesse and Taylor have is as important as the mating between Micah and Jesse. The other packs members are just as memorable. They leave you wanting them to get a HEA too.
This was a great start to the series. There are moments of laughter and a few that may make a tear or two leak. There are some good twists thrown in that keep things moving along nicely. I enjoyed it a great
Title: The High Dragon Takes a Wolf Series: Of Dragons and Wolves, #12 Author: Marcy Jacks Genre: Erotic Romance/Paranormal/ Shape-Shifter/ Vampires/ Werewolves Length: Novella (115 Pages) Publisher: Siren Publishing (November 1, 2014) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥5Hearts Blurb: Duncan McTavish is the high dragon of his clan that he fought and paid for with blood. Now he wants peace, and he will start with the wolf pack at the bottom of his mountain. He will unite his clan with Clyde’s pack by mating with an omega.
But a betrayal is revealed when a handsome young omega runs to Duncan, revealing everything. Clyde intended to go back on the peace treaty and kill the dragons while their guard was down.
Duncan won’t align himself with Clyde, but he can’t leave the omega behind to face punishment either, especially since the much younger man is his mate.
Joey Litman is just happy he was able to save himself and his friends before anything worse could happen to them, and when he’s brought to a fancy room, he assumes Duncan wants to mate with him. He’s not wrong, and he intends on letting the handsome man seduce him all he wants.
Review: This is part of Dragons and Werewolves series and they need to be read in order. Each story gives you a new romancing couple to fall in love with. It also gives you an insight into their world.
Now usually my favorite paranormals are the ones with wolves, but dragons also make a great hit. This one comes off a bit different from the others. However, it was a blast to read. In this story, I really wanted to skin the alpha wolf and his men. Joey had been eighteen when he had been caught by his alpha having sex with another omega, and the man had decided he was going to be his mate. Joey did manage to talk the alpha out of having sex with him for the whole year. However, when he found out what was up he knew he had to interfere.
Joey had found out that the peace treaty coming up was to betray the dragons and he had to help them. However, in doing so he would be killed for his betrayal. The dragons came down to mate with omegas in exchange for peace. However, Joey’s sick alpha had plans to kill them. It was up to Joey to stop it.
Duncan had agreed with the other dragons that it was indeed time for peace. However when a little omega came to warn him, he knew he couldn’t leave him behind. He couldn’t leave him behind for more than just the reason known. Joey was in fact his mate. Now all he had to do is to help his mate understand that he would always be safe with him. Now if only he can get his best friend to go along with everything. Turns out dragons are more prickly than humans.
This was an amazing story although I do admit that for me it was missing something but not enough to make me not love the story. It does come off as if it had been rushed a bit but it was still perfect. I loved it and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. If you love dragon shifters, wolf shifters, sexy men, strong alphas, quirky mates, excitement, action and danger then you should check out this book. I would recommend reading this if you love that and so much more. It caught my attention the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end.

Title: Sporting Chance Author: Alexa Milne Genre: Contemporary Length: Super-Novel (312 pages) Publisher: Totally Bound (November 6th, 2014) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥5Hearts Blurb: Sometimes keeping hold of love is just as hard as finding it.
Dan and Iestyn are looking for romance. A school trip, a love of history, a wedding, a tango and the game of chess, and their friends and family all help the two men to realise that they’ve finally found true love.
Iestyn thinks that he’s completely ordinary and that Dan is the only out and currently gay rugby player anywhere. Being gay can be difficult enough. Being famous also has its problems. But being gay, famous and a sportsman can make finding love complicated. So when Dan Morgan meets Iestyn Jones and gives him his phone number, their road ahead has more than a few bumps to overcome.
Will Iestyn and Dan overcome the obstacles thrown in their paths? Or will fame destroy their lives as well as their love?
Review: If you’ve read some of my previous reviews, it may well look like I’m on a bit of a sporting kick with my reading at the moment. That could possibly be true – this is the third or fourth sport based romance I’ve read in the past week, pretty good for someone who only actually follows basketball. What was immediately interesting to me is that rugby is the sport of focus – certainly different. I don’t follow rugby but I don’t live under a rock to not know some of the terminology that I couldn’t help but show an interest.
Then throwing in some hot Welshmen doesn’t hurt either. In fact, this book brought to mind a couple things, Russel Crowe movie called the Sum of Us where Rusty played a gay rugby player. Also, I was reminded of retired Australian rugby league player, Ian Roberts, who came out a few years before he retired from the game.
Which leads me to my next point: I had to Google how to pronounce Iestyn, no matter how much fantasy I read that commonly uses Welsh, Scots and Irish language for fairies, etc. I could not get the syllable breakdown. (FYI, it’s Yes-Tin, if you’re interested).
Iestyn is a teacher, openly gay, and his classroom is certainly full of some interesting characters. Besides the crazy kids, he also has a crazy family and an equally quirky and crazy group of friends. He’s a sci-fi nerd and he loves playing online chess. Completely the opposite to the object of his desire, Dan Morgan, he is a professional rugby player who doesn’t hide his sexuality.
Unlike Iestyn, Dan only has his Nan for family and has a few good friends on the rugby team. Iestyn is completely clueless about Dan and rugby, so it’s a bit of a comedy of errors, one that I have sympathy for. I was charmed by Iestyn’s naivety, as much as Dan was charmed. Iestyn may be thirty-four or five, but he is cute, naive and intelligent. Whereas Dan is twenty-four and sometimes he acts it, so much so I wanted to cuff him on the head to knock some sense into him.
I was pleased to find that unlike many books, the author chose not to dwell on the ten-year age gap, which is fairly common in many stories and usually the number one reason why one of the pair tries to keep his distance. Instead this is played out as normal as possible. The other thing that I found interesting was that both characters were out as gay and were pretty well accepted in their places of work. Instead, the focus was on Iestyn and Dan as a couple where contending with Dan’s fame is one of the most important issues that come up between them almost immediately. The poor sods couldn’t get away too easily!
The story is absolutely filled with a range of emotion. I laughed, smiled, cried, got irritated and then got angry – I also feared that the story could not be contained within the two hundred-odd pages. The story is well paced, though two-thirds in I thought that Dan and Iestyn were ready for a happily ever after until Alexa Milne trips us up and gives us another brief roller coaster of drama.
A quick side note: since this is set in Cardiff, Wales, Doctor Who fans will be more than a little amused by the references to Doctor Who and Torchwood. Any reference to Capt. Jack Harkness and Ianto Jones is a good reference!

Title: All Kinds of Tied Down Series: A story in the Matter of Time universe Author: Mary Calmes Narrator: Tristan James Genre: Contemporary Length: 9 hours and 1 minute Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (09-24-14) Heat Level: Moderate to Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥5Hearts Blurb: Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones has a reputation for being calm and collected under fire. These traits serve him well with his hotshot partner, Ian Doyle, the kind of guy who can start a fight in an empty room. In the past three years of their life-and-death job, they’ve gone from strangers to professional coworkers to devoted teammates and best friends. Miro’s cultivated blind faith in the man who has his back… faith and something more.
As a marshal and a soldier, Ian’s expected to lead. But the power and control that brings Ian success and fulfillment in the field isn’t working anywhere else. Ian’s always resisted all kinds of tied down, but having no home—and no one to come home to—is slowly eating him up inside. Over time, Ian has grudgingly accepted that going anywhere without his partner simply doesn’t work. Now Miro just has to convince him that getting tangled up in heartstrings isn’t being tied down at all.
Review: Miro Jones and Ian Doyle are just two of the men that work on an elite team of US Marshalls led by Sam Kage. Miro was in and out of foster homes as a child, got into a little trouble but he always looked up to the men in uniform. He could have gone in a completely different direction with his life, but instead of lashing out at the lot life dealt him, he wanted to be like the men that protected him.
Ian is a seasoned soldier first, and a US Marshall second.
He spends almost as much time away and on top-secret missions as he does at home. Over the past few years as partners, they’ve built a unique partnership based on friendship, mutual admiration and the ability to trust each other with their lives. While Miro fell for Ian a long time ago, he knows that Ian is straight, so he locks away those feelings behind a door so thick that when Ian starts acting different toward him, Miro doesn’t even notice.
While Ian is away on a mission, Miro is injured while transporting a witness and Ian is less than pleased when he finally finds out about it. You see, while Ian could test the patience of a saint, Miro should buy stock in an insurance company, he gets injured on the job THAT much! When Miro heads out to transport their next witness, he’s a little surprised to find Ian waiting at the airport for him. What is completely unexpected is the way Ian looks at him and visibly shudders when Miro touches him.
From here these two pretty much hit the ground running, going from partners and best friends to lovers in the blink of an eye. The pompous ass with more money than common sense that also happens to be the homophobic father of their current witness’s lover threatens to get them both killed before the sweat that drenched them just a few hours ago even dries.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from start to finish. Very nice to catch up with where Sam Kage is after the series of events in the Matter of Times books, but the main focus of this story is Miro and Ian. Miro has spent three years learning how to navigate his intense feelings for his partner. Convinced that Ian is straight and will never be his, he gets so good at ignoring his reaction to Ian that he misses Ian’s change in feelings toward him. Ian, lovingly referred to by their fellow Marshall’s as Captain America, doesn’t even try to avoid his feelings for Miro. What Ian struggles with is the urge to stake his claim on Miro, and how to express those feelings and that need out loud.
Narrated by Tristan James, his voice was the perfect complement to the characters Calmes created for this story. There was a push and pull between them as partners that bleed over into their sexual relationship, but in a role reversal of sorts. While Ian is very protective and demanding at work, Miro takes the lead in the bedroom. Ian has to be on his game 24/7 at work and when he is on a mission, what he wants, no needs in his personal life is for someone else to take that control. And Miro gladly accepts the challenge.
This was a very sexy and steamy read, full of action and suspense and James did a splendid job of conveying all those emotions and circumstances, and then some. From the camaraderie between Miro and Ian in the beginning to the foreplay in the middle, and then finally the passion in the end. I highly recommend this audible to fans of Calmes writing and/or James narration. I am crossing my fingers that there will be another book for these guys, Calmes wrote in enough scenarios to comfortably give them a sequel, if not their own series.

Title: A Matter of When Series: N/A Author: Eden Winters Genre: Contemporary Length: Novel (234 pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (September 15th 2014) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts Blurb: Wealth. Fame. Gold record. Hookers and Cocaine front man Henri Lafontaine has it all… including a control freak manager, band members who smile as they sharpen blades for his back, and last but damn well not least, a fan out to steal his heart. Literally. Trying to write hit songs and plan a comeback in the midst of the hi-fi white noise of LA feels more like watching his world implode, until he’s offered a month in the Colorado Rockies for vocal coaching.
Sebastian Unger’s rich, classically trained tenor inspires wicked thoughts. More than a pretty choirboy, he cracks the whip without hesitation to drive tattooed bad-boy Henri to give his all to his music. Working, fighting, and finally establishing a fragile peace, they find inspiration and perhaps more in each other. But the clock is ticking. Time will pull Henri back to the grit and gold of LA’s mean streets and fame machine, while Sebastian must return to the opera circuit, where a mysterious man known as “the patron” holds far too much sway.
Only the trust they’ve built on a handful of notes bridges their two worlds… and shields them from malice.
Review: A rock star who should have it all. But instead has band mates who are homophobic and ready to stab him in the back and a manager control freak who ignores all of Henri’s wants. That is Henri’s life. Add in depression and anxiety and you get one hot mess. When someone almost kills him and his manager blames Henri, he has had enough. He finds a way to break his contract and starts getting himself together. Now he just has to plan a way to start over in the music business.
Sebastian, and opera tenor is one of the steps Henri uses to start over. Henri has never had a voice lesson, so his new manager sets he him up to learn from Sebastian. Sebastian is a perfectionist. He does all he can to make him the best he can be as a singer of opera. He teaches Henri how to really sing. Things to not go well at first. Henri is resistant. It takes a little time for them to warm up to each other.
This is a great starting over story. Henri goes from verge of breakdown to making his way to the top of the music world again. This time he takes control and does things his way. He starts to really listen to Sebastian and learn from him. Once they find a common ground Henri and Sebastian, become friends. Even when Henri offers, Sebastian does not want to become sexually involved not wanting a temporary fling.
After Henri’s month long stay, they both learn they want much more. During this time, Henri starts to surround himself with people who will support him and not use him. The secondary characters are well written and add their own bit of flair to the story. Their interactions with Henri add good time fun to the book as well.
I only had one real issue with the book. That being that everything is told completely from Henri’s point of view. Sebastian has several issues. However, the reader never really sees them. The conflicts and solutions are not really given in detail. We just know what happens from Henri’s involvement. I would have liked to get a deeper look at Sebastian and what was going on in his head. But maybe that was done on purpose to make this a less angsty read. Fair to say that from what details are given, what happened to Sebastian was definitely not light reading.
All in all, I enjoyed this book. This is a well-written story about getting your act together and finding love.
