Review:  Each book in the Wounded Hearts collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Grover and his team mates did a good deed and it cost them.  For Grover it cost him his eyes and he was having a hard time dealing with it.  A powerful jaguar who is pretty much an alpha sees the loss as a weakness and as a vet, well you can guess.  However he would be wrong, because he still is a powerful man in his own.  So when a little thief tries to steal his wallet, well the thief stole his heart instead.

Eric and his brother Evan have been on their own for some time.  They had found themselves in a dangerous situation when another shifter takes them in.  Now they are thieves and only bad things happen when they fail.  The problem is his brother is sick and Eric has to work double to get it done.  Too bad he tried to steal from a powerful shifter who was blind, it might just cost him more than he expected.

When an author is trying to meet a deadline or just wants to get their books out fast, they tend to make a few mistakes that could cost them.  Such as different names, or different injuries to the wrong shifter, to spelling or even the tone.  Now this author has made a few of these mistakes, but it doesn’t take away from the story as bad as I would have expected.  However I still noticed it.

Other than my issues with this story it was a fun read.  I enjoyed it and can’t wait to start on the next book.

Review:  Each book in the Wounded Hearts collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

The first thing I noticed is the beta reader didn’t catch the name of the dead soldier.  In book one he was called Wayne but the author wrote it multiple times in this one as Larry.  So it needs just a bit of re-editing.  Not a big deal but it brought it down just a bit for me.  There were a few types of these issues with this book, but other than that sweet.

Mike is a powerful tiger shifter who lost his leg in the fight that also cost him his commander’s arm, another’s eyes, ones hearing and the loss of a friend.  Now in civilian life he was having just a bit of trouble figuring out life.  Then he comes across his mate.

Bowen has been on the run for some time.  He is a lynx shifter that can get pregnant.  To top it off he is an omega.  One man wants him, but it is only one man he wants.  Bowen needs his mate’s help to survive.

It is a very good book that caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end.
It does have a few issues, such as what I listed above, but it doesn’t really take away from the story itself.  It just felt rushed and for this type of story that isn’t really a good thing.  However I still had a lot of fun with it and can’t wait to see what book three will be like.

Blurb:  After losing an arm in the war, dominant lion shifter Abram is suffering from PTSD and having trouble adapting to civilian life. His sessions with his therapist, Kane, are the only things he looks forward to.

Omega cat shifter Kane has a huge problem. He’s had a massive crush on Abram since the wounded vet entered his life. When keeping things professional between them no longer works, Kane bolts, terrified of the intense attraction between them.

Kane gives Abram quite a chase, but he soon realizes that lions are persistent hunters—and when it comes to the matters of the heart, only a fool would refuse the mating bond.

Review:  Each book in the Wounded Hearts collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Dominant alpha shifters do not do well when they are no longer at the top of their game.  They see any weakness as a loss, but the shifters in this story find that it is not always truth.  Five soldiers go to war but only 4 come back alive.  Abram was the one in charge and came back with the loss of his arm.  To top it off he has flash backs and is trying to survive his new life as a civilian.

Kane is the opposite of Abram.  He is definitely not a alpha type male, but he is bound and determined to get Abram to live in the now.  That is until one kiss, and sends him running.  Too bad now he has a very big lion coming after his mate.

I have not had the chance to read many stories from this author, but I have to say that this story does hit a chord.  It was well rounded and full of description that definitely catches my attention.  In fact my attention was caught from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end.  I enjoyed reading it and can’t wait to get started on the next book.

Review: This is the 2nd edition which has been revised and re-edited.

Moro is a bonded gladiator and believes that he has two more years before he can be free again. But, he finds out the truth… he still belongs to his previous master, the man who destroyed his world and ruined his life. But, Moro won’t go back to that monster and plans his suicide. Valier is the crown prince of the Camalian Commonwealth and is fighting off assassins when Moro stumbles across him, Moro saves his life so Valier offers Moro a way out, one night of sex where he will be infected with the sentient symbiont endemic, which will either lead to Moro’s death or his complete freedom.

Whoop, okay boys and girls this is a little gem if you love your sci-fi with fantasy and some good old space opera, along with a good dose of abuse and angst. Moro is an abused slave or a ‘bonded gladiator’. He has no control over his life and is holding on to the promise of being released in two years… he is betrayed. He was only loaned out and now his previous owner wants him back, but Moro would rather die than be placed in those hands again. Valier is a crown prince who ends up rescuing Moro, after Moro saves his life and it takes them on a new journey of discovery as they are a perfect match for each other. And secrets from Moro’s past finally emerge which place them both in danger, as long forgotten beings return and make their presence felt.

There is a hell of a lot going on in this story, but every bit is very well-connected, there is in-depth plotting and planning that go back years. Lots of scheming from characters, some twists and turns and several species involved. The story moves smoothly along and you get dragged in as you work out who is against whom and who is plotting what. You try to figure out who is a good guy and who is a spy. There are scenes that are pretty grim and gruesome, scenes that are distressing and scenes that are really freaking hot.

Now, there is one full on sex scene of m/f ,but it is actually in a kind of dream bubble thingie when Moro meets Cama (symbiont) and I just put it down to a necessary evil. The sex between Moro and Valier is very hot and has a lot of mild bondage.  I am sure that if there is a next book then they would be into more of the hard-core stuff, but because of Moro’s long term suffering Valier goes very easy on him and gentles what he really wants. This is a very intriguing storyline as more characters become involved and more species turn up, the descriptions are really well done and the world building was fascinating and we learn more and more the further into the book we delve.

Now, seriously if you are into space-opera, science fiction, fantasy, hot men, damaged men, intriguing characters and species (that can suck up worlds), angst, danger, plotting and planning, with some really hot sex, then you need to read this book because it is a little gem. P.S. Fingers crossed for more from Moro and Valier.

Review: Interesting story about two mages who have been interested in the other from a distance. Adrian is a medium and though everyone tells him he has a gift he thinks it’s a curse. Daniel is a prince who is summoned by his mother to help on a mission of great importance.

The journey they found themselves on was knowledgeable as Aiden found the answers he needed to help him understand who he is, what he can do and what his purpose is. It was fascinating to learn about the mediums and how they came about.

I am looking forward to reading more about the nether and the group who almost wiped out Aiden’s ancestors. I have to say I could not stand Daniel’s mother as she seemed to hate Aiden for some reason only she knows.  I really enjoyed how these two seemed to balance each other out. Adrian grew as a person under Daniel’s care and with the help of the nether. I was happy to see him for the man he could be.

Great read.

Review:  Ben is a teacher of folklore and very reserved in nature, whereas Niall is fae.  In the fae’s life they are given one year to go to the human world and see whatever they want.  Time is different in each world, where three days here is about a year in Niall’s world.  They are immortal creatures that love to play pranks and jokes.

When Niall comes across to the human world he is finding it a bit boring.  That is until he comes across Ben striding out of the water.  His heart takes a beat and he wants whatever he can get with this man, however going home to inform his family that he wants to stay with Ben leads into disaster.  Disaster meaning he was gone from the human world for almost a year.  Ben has no need for a man like that, but then again he has no real clue what Niall truly is.  Then the huntsman catches his scent and the paranormal world is brought right out into the open.

I came across these authors at different times, having read a book or two by these women made me decide to give this story a chance.  However I have got to say that it was one hell of a weird story.  It starts off a bit fast and things are moving at a great pace, but then it felt like they rushed the rest of it.  It doesn’t make the story change but it just made it feel off.  I am still not too sure I liked it or not, but will reserve judgment for a later time.  I can’t imagine these two worlds in this way and I am not a big fan of the fae, but I did get a kick out of them

So I am off to read book two in this series and hope to see these two in the next story even if it is just a peek.

Instead of being big, strong warriors, like his friends, he is a tall, slender, twink, who is very feminine in his features, and has the mouth of a champion in sarcasm. Due to Leigh’s looks, his father, the previous king, taught Leigh how to fight so that he could not only lead his people, but defend himself.

Leigh has always had a crush on Grin, a soldier and warrior for the Ingenium Clan. When Grin comes to Leigh one night flirting, it shocks Leigh to his very core. The man of his dreams wants him too, and Leigh will not let this opportunity pass. When Leigh becomes a victim of the very evil that is threatening his people, Grin calls upon their friends, the other kings, as well as two magics, to aid him in his search for his missing mate.

Leigh finds himself in a very strange palace, surrounded by a veil of fog created by a very powerful sorcerer, with no hope of escape, and no hope of rescue. Can Leigh fight his way out of the hands of this madman? Is he destined to live his life without the man he loves? Or will his mate Rescue the Dragon King? .

Review: In this exciting addition of the series we see Leigh in action as his people go missing he is determined to find out who took them and rescue them. The culprit is a race that is vicious and only wants to breed to ensure their race’ survival. Unfortunately for them instead of humans they kidnapped dragon shifters.

I loved this story. Leigh is so delicate and beautiful yet deadly. I loved how he never backed down from a fight despite his small stature. He is fierce and a force to be reckoned with. I was thrilled when he and Grin finally got together as mates.

Highly recommended.

Review: Since his mother took him and fled their home Devon has been in hell. He’s been lied to, beaten, used and abused and forced to sell his body at the whim of his step brother Mick. Going to his nightly appointment he meets Zion. He has been having dreams of this man and is stunned when he learns who he is. But upon Zion revealing who he really is Devon runs as he feels ashamed of what he’s been forced to do.

Zion is a strong character and was just the one to show Devon that what he went through was because of someone else and not his choice. I have to admit I was so pissed off with the way that lazy no good prick Mick treated Devon that I was wishing him dead from the start.

The scene between a certain client and Devon broke my heart at what was done to him. I was glad it was not drawn out as I don’t think I could have handled that. There are twists and turns especially at the end when we discover the plan and certain individuals who are power hungry set said plans in motion and carried them out.

Highly recommended.

Review: It’s best to read these books in order. Marcus and Edmond were together in college but due to a misunderstanding they broke up. Now years later the two are tasked with a mission to find missing tomes that are highly important to Aiden.

I really enjoy this series. I hope it continues. So much goes on in this book from dangerous situations to mysteries needing to be solved. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know who was behind everything and why.

Marcus and Edmond broke my heart at what had been done to these two and the wasted years they were forced to endure. A couple of times I wanted to smack Marcus upside the head for his stubbornness.

I am looking forward to reading more in this series as the mystery continues. Great read.

(Inheritance 03)
by

Amelia Faulkner

Lover. Predator. Killer.

Laurence Riley’s inheritance comes with a price – one he’s not at all sure he can pay. When his urge to hunt grows out of control, he sends a desperate prayer to his ancestor for guidance. But he never expected that Herne the Hunter would answer.

Scion. Target. Victim.

There are horrors lurking in Quentin d’Arcy’s past, but they won’t hide there forever. Something ancient is coming to take him home: a creature of nightmare who feasts on the flesh of children. When the choice is between his own life and the lives of innocents, there is no choice at all.

Honesty is the worst policy.

A legendary horror comes to San Diego, but it’s merely an emissary. Laurence has seen the real monster, and it’s a darkness which will destroy everything he loves – especially if Quentin ever finds out what it did to him as a child.

Review:  Susan Laine has a wonderful imagination and can create some unique worlds for her stories.  Although I must admit this is definitely unique.  I wasn’t to sure about it, although I did expected Jack’s attitude, I couldn’t figure out Rudy.  It is a sure fire way to catch ones attention and is a delightful Christmas story, if not a bit weird.

Jack Frost is nipping at your toes and has an attitude to boot.  He is alone because he chooses it.  Then you have Rudy, who is a reindeer shifter, he is treated like the plague until Christmas time so he spends most of his life alone but not by choice.  However Rudy is a half-breed for the other part is fire giant.  So you can guess what you get when Jack Frost and Rudy unite.  Steam is just a part of what you will get and it will definitely keep you warm.

It was a fun little story but was missing so much.  Rudy was the one that made most of the sacrifices although you can feel and see Jack’s displeasure on it.  You can also see Rudy’s giant heart and he is my favorite of all characters.  The story though fell flat to me and I really don’t know exactly why.  It just felt off to me.  Other than that it was enjoyable and I can see myself reading it more than once around the holidays.

Blurb: Karl Kringle hates the modern-day Christmas. He was born to be Krampus, but the Holiday Council refuses to let him help his brother Nick—aka Santa Claus—with the Naughty List until he finds his holiday spirit. To meet that challenge, he’s turned human and dumped in a strange apartment.

Lewis Weatherby loves the holidays and always has. Not only do his parents own a pumpkin patch and tree farm, he’s also inherited a Christmas-themed shop. All he wants from Santa is the man of his dreams, and the Big Guy might’ve just delivered. Lewis’s new neighbor Karl is gorgeous, sweet, and has a fantastic sense of humor—if his jokes about being Krampus are any indication.

Soon getting home is less important to Karl than what will happen when Lewis inevitably realizes the truth behind his jokes. He’s finally starting to understand the real joy of the season—now he just has to figure out how to hold on to it.

Review: I cannot put into words how much I love this book. Actually, I can, but I need to say the former to get my point across. From memory I think this is the first time I’ve ever ready anything by Andi Van and I have to say that this book was a fantastic introduction to a new-for-me author. The writing style is so easy to follow, the emotion from the MCs just grabbed me from the get go and the plot is simply wonderful.

If you’re into books based on mythology, then this is a great Christmas read for you. We are introduced to the usually maligned Christmas figure of Krampus. He’s definitely a grumpy guy, but he’s a grumpy guy with a heart of gold and he is angry at the Holidays for a very good reason. Krampus (aka Karl) is pretty pissed because he is never allowed to help his beloved twin brother, Nick (aka Santa), because he lacks Christmas spirit. It is his brother-in-law (Santa’s cross dressing husband, Noel) who sends Karl into the mortal realm and makes him appear human (his usual appearance is somewhere between Satyr and run of the mill “beast”). This is where Karl meets Lewis and the real story begins.

Karl and Lewis match each other perfectly. They are truly wonderful characters and I fell in love with them both. I really liked the fact that Lewis was made to be a man in his forties, unlucky in love instead of a twink in his early twenties, which is what usually happens in these kinds of stories. They work well together, though you will have to suspend your disbelief for a while when Karl keeps telling Lewis he’s Krampus and Lewis doesn’t go running in the opposite direction. The minor characters are absolutely wonderful too: from Nick and Noel, to Lewis’ friend Jerry and one of the many minions from the Holiday Council, Rimble. If nothing else it has sparked my interested in this world and really makes me wish for more!

Review: I really enjoyed the interactions between Wyler and Aeric. Wyler is basically given to Aeric in marriage at what Wryler thought would be his engagement announcement to another man. Aeric has a bad reputation among others due to his living on the edge of the forest and tales of vicious creatures.

We are lead into a mystery of who exactly Aeric is and what happened to others that have disappeared. Aeric was an amazing creature that I loved reading about but was missing crucial details. Along with supernatural creatures in abundance there is also Wryler’s unhappiness at being pawned off by his father.

I really wanted to love this story but there were many details that I wanted to know that were missing. For instance what exactly happened to Aeric when Rumple had him? During the interesting parts the story seemed rushed to me.

All in all it was a good read but could have been so much better.
