Leopold
(Saga of the Bold People 01)
by
M.D. Grimm
How does a human survive in an alien dominated InterGalactic Community? By becoming an assassin, of course.
At least, that’s what Leopold thought when he became an assassin for the elite. Pretending to be an alien known as Voidstriker, Leopold feeds his appetite for vengeance, killing aliens as well as taking their money. It’s a win-win to his mind. That is, until a bounty is placed upon his head.
With his true identity now revealed to the IG Community, Leopold knows it’s only a matter of time before the powerful family members of his victims come for blood. Far worse is the fact that the one who put the bounty on his head, is the one he most fears.
A routine job three cycles ago brought him face-to-face with Mastrodai, a prince of the powerful Mrrog Nation. Not only did Leopold—accidentally—destroy part of Mastrodai’s moon, but one glimpse of the mighty alien had him feeling desire for the first time in his life. He ran, and like predator after prey, Mastrodai never stopped hunting him.
Leopold is convinced that Mastrodai wants bloody revenge. But when he finally confronts the mrrog, he is stunned to realize Mastrodai wants something very different. Something surprisingly intimate—the one thing that scares Leopold more than torture.
Warnings: torture and rape off page, dealing with aftermath of the abuse

This is their only chance to escape Juneau Malloy for good, and Brooklyn Harper has been fighting for too long to back down now. Armed with deadly skills and a hunger for vengeance, the Omen Operatives set out on a risky mission to eradicate Isolation, contain the volatile Legacy Strain, and earn the freedom they’ve been chasing since Camp Eleven.

Wynfield, a washed-up former Corpsman with optical bioware and a healthy chip on his shoulder, is reluctantly drawn into a conspiracy to take down Nutrindustry, the company responsible for both his “upgrade” from human and the city’s food shortage.
Playing clinic doctor for the day, Yeven doesn’t expect the mouthy former pilot and their begrudging attraction—nor the fresh twist of shame for his part in Nutrindustry’s past. He needs Wynfield, though, and for more than his smart mouth. Feelings would just get in the way.
In a world where the line between man and metal is thin, there’s more happening behind the scenes than even Wynfield’s enhanced optics are able to see.
Blurb: As the stranded inhabitants of the Space Station mark the opening of their second year since the world ended, Saito Naotatsu is determined to shake off some part of the grief infecting their temporary home. Maybe find a little happiness, too, with his best friend and communications specialist, Turlach Quinn.
The situation explodes when Turlach finds his attraction to Saito confusing and relentless. At every turn, it seems Saito is there to break his control. With the Station falling apart around their ears and the crew breathing down his neck, Turlach finally has enough.
Problems keep piling up. The crew is weary and waiting. Earth is a dark shadow of what it once was. Will they ever get home? Is there even anything left to go home to?
Review: In this sequel we get a better understanding of the day to day survival for the crew of the space station. Speculations and tensions run high as they all guess how long they all can last and when and where they should go back to earth once all the fallout is gone.
Turlach and Saito are the couple who are upfront in this story. We get to see how they are around each other not to mention the confusion and understanding what Turlach goes through.
Blurb: Austen Payne, THIRDS Squadron Specialist Agent (SSA) for Destructive Delta and TIN operative, has seen the worst the world has to offer, faced lethal killers, and helped bring down dangerous organizations. But nothing terrifies him more than falling in love. After years of undercover work, Austen is a master at defending himself and protecting his heart… until he meets Osmond Zachary.
THIRDS Defense Agent Osmond Zachary has a huge, doting family, yet something is missing in his life. After meeting grumpy, foul-mouthed, jittery cheetah Therian Austen Payne, Zach knows exactly what that something—or someone—is. Unfortunately Austen seems determined to avoid Zach at all costs.
When Zach foils an assassination attempt, he ends up in the killer’s crosshairs, and Austen is Zach’s best chance at staying alive. Zach hopes the crisis will bring them closer, but Austen has every intention of walking away as soon as the danger is over.
Happily ever after isn’t for guys like Austen, but Zach is determined to show him it can be….
Review: Each book in the THIRDS Universe collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Austen had been fascinated with the THIRDS ever since he met Sloan. He had been introduced and then recruited. He was the squadron specialist for Destructive Delta and worked for TIN. He was basically a spooked. He had a small problem although I would say Zach was small. Austen had the hots for bear shifter Osmond Zachary.
Osmond had the hots for a certain feisty cheetah who kept him a arms length. He had screwed up an assassin attempt and now they wanted him dead. Guess who is coming to his aid. It looks like he might just get what he wants.
I came across this author when her first book in the THIRDS series and I knew that I had found an series that I would fall in love with. This story is very entertaining with lots of action, danger and fun times with sexy characters. My attention had been caught from the start and kept all the way to the end. It gave me everything I could ask for in a story and so much more. I got a big kick out of Austen and his denial of wanting Zach, and his fall. He is one of my favorite characters after Dex, Kael and Hobbs of course.
This is one of those series that just keeps getting better and better with time. This is also one of those series that would be read more than once. I will also admit that I didn’t come across these stories in books but on the audible part. So once I listened to the first three books I knew I wanted to actually set down and read them.
I had a blast reading this book and can’t wait to get my hands on the next book. I would definitely recommend it.
Blurb:Deaf since childhood, Sebastian Armitage had a promising musical future until his dreams were shattered when he transformed at twelve years old. In a world where enhanced humans are terrorized and imprisoned, his life shrinks around him even more as he suffers the torment of his father’s experimental research to enable him to hear.
Gray Darling—struggling with the scars left by his experience in Afghanistan—agrees to provide short-term personal protection when anonymous threats escalate into assault on those closest to Seb.
As the lines between protection and attraction blur, Gray and Seb can’t ignore the intense feelings drawing them together. But secrets and betrayals might prove deadly, unless Gray is willing to risk it all. And Seb must find the strength to make his own future and sing his own song….
Review: Gray is hired to protect Sebastian. What starts out as job slowly turns into something more. Sebastian’s enhanced power was stunning to witness. I loved the slow burn between the two as the story progressed.
This story is not as intense as the other stories in the enhanced series but it still packs a punch. Seb is self conscience and reclusive. He doesn’t trust anyone. The experiments he is put through are mind boggling. I admit I felt his dad was extremely unemotional to the wants of Seb.
My heart went out to Seb as he struggled for his independence against family and a system that gives enhanced no rights. Gray was a rock for Seb when he needed it the most.

by
J. Alan Veerkamp
Costa McQuillen has escaped from Earth, where being para-human—a Pariah—with tech empathic abilities is illegal, and marks him for extermination. Arrogant and standoffish, Costa is unable to trust anyone but is willing to risk everyone’s safety in his desperate effort to reach the planet Omoikane. His best solution, gaining passage on board the Santa Claus.
Arbor Kittering is the crew’s newest coding tech. Having spent a short time in prison for data hacking and falsifying government files, the Santa Claus is his last chance at a new start—if he can decipher the strange malfunctions plaguing the ship.
Eugene “Priest” Jones, the Santa Claus’s Head Pilot, is a bit of a scoundrel. Perpetually single, Priest is attracted to Costa and Arbor. In truth, he’d like to have both, but it’s clear even his grifting and gambling skills can’t make that happen.
Now as they all travel together, it appears Priest needs to make a choice before it’s too late as each of their lives intertwine with potentially dangerous and deadly consequences.
Blurb: What lurks in the dark is not always a monster. Sometimes it’s your deepest desire.
Long ago, Val made the decision to stick by his captain against mutinous shipmates. He has spent a millennium on Earth protecting humans as a matter of honor. He also made the fatal mistake of falling in love with a human boy who died trying to birth Val’s son. He’s sworn to never open himself up to such pain and guilt again.
Mackie was forced to run away from his family to save himself from homophobia and abuse. He learned to live by his wits and the sale of his body. He’s reinvented himself as a brat with a need to be dominated and tamed. He thought he’d found the perfect man in Val, only to discover he had given his heart to a vampire—one that pushed him away when an ancient, hidden war reignited.
As Val and his cohorts battle with their old crew members, he tries to keep Mackie at a distance from the danger and his heart. But Mackie will not be side-lined as either a soldier or a lover. He is waging a war of his own to win Val back.
The next chapter in the alien war is heating up. A deadly drug is flooding Boston, threatening to turn the city into a battleground. Val and the others need help, and one bratty twink might be the best weapon they have. He may also be the key to unlocking Val’s heart and giving him back the happiness he lost.
Review: Each book in the Alien Blood Wars collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Mackie has had a hard life and it didn’t seem to get any better. He had been basically kicked out of his own home because his parents were homophobic asshats. Forced to live on the streets he had given his body to survive. Now he danced and got to choose who he slept with. The only one he truly wanted was the bouncer at the club. A man that was not human and a man that didn’t really want him.
Val wanted Mackie with all he had in him. The problem was many years past he had given his heart to a young man and lost him. Lost him and their child because he couldn’t give birth the way his kind was meant to. Now he has gone the route of never falling in love but love always wins over. Top it off there was someone out there who was trying to destroy them all. One of their own to be precise.
You have your good alien vampires and your bad, but it seems the bad always win. The story is quite unique and very entertaining. I am not really a fan of this type of story though. This one has a bit more BDSM involved in it and lets face it the vampire is always the dominate partner. In this series the mates can give birth but it is quite dangerous. You not only get Val’s side of view but Mackies as well. However what is even more unique is you get the bad guys as well.
Now as the down side to this book is the drama between Val and Mackie. There is no true communication between them unless you count sex. Val wants his way and Mackie just wants Val. I don’t much care for it nor the fact that it hasn’t really moved forward with the actual plot from the bad guys.
Overall the story is pretty good and I did enjoy it. I will admit that it is not one of those stories that sticks with you. It is however one of those stories that will be read more than once, but only to remember the parts that you need to. I will hold my final thoughts till I read further on in the series.
Blurb: When contact is lost with Mission Control, Commander John Dennington isn’t overly concerned. Such hiccups in communication are common. The first inkling of the larger problem occurs when he sees the very shape of the world change before his eyes.
John must ease his crew into a new mission and keep the Station together by any means necessary. The crew jeopardizes their chances by fighting his orders, but Jason Weiss, his mission specialist and the light of his life, makes John’s situation more bearable.
The smallest malfunction to Station or crew would spell the end for six astronauts trapped high above a ruined Earth. It’s their mission to carry on. Random chance of the universe hasn’t operated in their favor so far, but John is determined to see them all safely home.
Review: John and his crew of five are on a space station as the world below them implodes. They do all they can to take measures in making sure they can survive in space for as long as possible before trying to make it back to earth and seeing the damage caused.
At the same time John and his seconds, Jason, relationship comes out. This causes John to worry abut how the crew will react. But he worries for nothing as they take it all in stride. John almost dies during an outing outside the space station due to his suits oxygen gauge not working properly.
This story reminded me of the dangers of space travel and the need to survive at all costs. I thought the crew worked well together under duress as they each had a role to play in their survival. This first book spans the first year they are in space after the horrible events that took place on earth.
The human and alien rebellion is at hand, but those who have already arrived at the secret military facility are without the one who has inspired them to stand against the Nall. Chris, the human chosen by the Alasharian spiritual leader Sha Sha Ar, has been missing since the escape to the hideout. Those who have never seen Chris before, have only heard tales of his visions, begin to doubt his existence. Fear spreads through the group as humans and Alasharians alike wonder if they’re all doomed, if maybe Chris is a fantasy or has already fallen at the hands of the Nall.
Graham, Morgan and their Alasharian matches stand before the terrified group to reassure them that Chris is real. They’ve barely begun to speak when they are forced to fight an unexpected foe. But before the final battle against the Nall and the Void begins, all must search within themselves to discover what part they will play to achieve their destiny—and to summon the bravery they’ll need to see it through.
Reader Advisory: This book contains graphic battle scene violence and medical play, as well as references to rape and torture. There is also a scene involving urethral sounds.
Review: The entire series up to this point of human and Alasharian’s meeting their mates, unanswered questions lead to this exciting climax as they all go through a spiritual awareness to culminate with battle plans and strategies to beat all their foes. It will not be easy but nothing in life is.
I loved everything about this story. The danger was real, the battles intense and graphic that left me on the edge of my seat. I loved how all the characters worked together despite the doubts gathering around Chris. The twists and turns were a real eyeful and one even took me by surprise as I did not see it coming.

Can Raven, the government hacker, put the cryptic clues together before the market crashes? Find out in grydscaen: dark. Whose side are you on?
Review: Let me start of by saying this is the first book in the series I have read. While I was worried I might have missed something the story itself was really good with plenty of mystery, suspense and edge of your seat scenes that are engaging. I loved the characters from Jester to Zoon. The tech in the story was very detailed and intriguing.
There is a lot happening as the story progresses and the suspense of waiting to see what happens was brilliant. I really enjoyed the overall story and was impressed with the way it was written and the attention to the details. All the characters had a role to play in bringing this story to life.
Blurb: Survival is hard enough in the outer colonies—what chance does love have?
Life can be harsh and lonely in the outer colonies, but miner-turned-farmer Abraham Bauer is living his dream, cultivating crops that will one day turn the unforgiving world of Alkirak into paradise. He wants more, though. A companion—someone quiet like him. Someone to share his days, his bed, and his heart.
Gael Sonnen has never seen the sky, let alone the sun. He’s spent his whole life locked in the undercity beneath Zhemosen, running from one desperate situation to another. Although Gael arrives with unexpected complications, Abraham is prepared to make their relationship work—until Gael’s past catches up with them, threatening Abraham’s livelihood, the freedom Gael gave everything for, and the love neither man ever hoped to find.
Reader discretion advised. This title contains the following sensitive themes: explicit violence
Review: Gael is a man desperate and at the end of his rope. Living in a city under the ground he has never seen the sun or anything above ground. On top of that he is indenture to the Trass family for debts he and his brother accumulated. Sent on a mission to take out a target with a rifle he fails to make the killing shot. Scared he runs to his friend Price for help to get off the planet as far as he can get.
Abraham puts a companion request on a site and he wants someone long term. He’s lonely. As an ex miner turned farmer his life takes on the same routine everyday on a planet where the sun is deadly so he lives in the crevasses. He’s made a good life and now seeks companionship. When he sees Gael’s profile he knows he’s the one and sends a message.
But not all is as it seems. trouble is following Gael and will intrude. Not to mention the harsh living on a planet where one mistake can mean death. Unforgiving storms, deadly poisonous mists plus people looking for a way to advance or make someone pay. I loved this story. It was not just about the relationship between these two men and the little girl who follows Gael. There is so much more to it. I found it to be quite entertaining and at several times edge of your seat worthy.
Blurb: A collection of three m/m sci-fi novellas by Madeleine Urban: Enhanced, Close Encounter, and Following the Sun.
Enhanced
In Earth’s not-too-far future, a talented scientist stumbles over a plot to use the genetically enhanced military to declare martial law and take over the government. Dr. Ryne Siler enlists his friend, Dr. Cary Matthews, a brilliant engineer, to figure out how to stop it. When the investigation goes awry, they’re on the run, and the only thing between them and capture is a hidden cache of sleeping soldiers with enhancements of their own. Ryne and Cary are desperate, but will waking these soldiers help – or just make things worse?
Close Encounter
Space privateer Tris is just doing his job – delivering canisters to a military science vessel – when he discovers that he is transporting people infected with an engineered virus designed to exterminate the human race. In the midst of an alien attack, can the rogue pilot save patient Retter – the key to the cure? Or will he lose both humanity’s salvation and his heart?
Following the Sun
The nearly fatal crash of their spacecraft leaves Jack and Samuel stranded on a verdant planet far from civilization. Discovered and sheltered by a native tribe, the two resign themselves to new lives – lives that include a new culture, a new language, and even new love. But their new home isn’t at all what it seems, and when war and illness strike, they find out just how far from home they are.
Review: Three short stories that would have been much better if there was more to them.
Enhanced is about Rhyne and Cary waking up two engineered level one soldiers to take out level three killing machines. Interesting but too short with too much romance.
Close Encounter is about a space privateer, Tris, who is transporting goods and realizes he is also transporting a young man infected with a virus that could either destroy humanity or cure it. I enjoyed this entertaining story that was sealed with a kiss.
Following the Sun is a strange story about a tribe who worships the sun. Two men, crash land and get saved by the tribe. Alas I can not really expand on that or else I’ll give away the entire story.
All three stories were entertaining but way too short. Needed more information in all three.

Beyond Meridan
by
C.C. Bridges
Captain Rick Raine thinks he’s just picking up a passenger and some cargo when he takes on Karl as a member of his crew. He didn’t sign up for battling privateers, the United Planetary Alliance, and his own heart. But everyone has secrets in space, even a naive kid who knows more than he should.
Karl is on a mission, deep in the heart of enemy space. Sam saved him from a life of servitude and now it’s time to return the favor. For that he needs a ship and someone to fly it. Captain Raine seems like the perfect guy, a good pilot and an honest thief. But Karl doesn’t count on falling for the spacer, not when he has a mission to accomplish and the UPA’s secrets to keep.
Blurb: Unemployment is stressful enough—but throw in the threat of being tossed out the space station’s airlock as a vagrant, and human Del is in desperate need of employment. No job, no place to stay, Del wants nothing more than to be back out amongst the stars, preferably as a bridge crewmember. Trouble is, his dreams are bigger than his starship experience and years, and Del finally heads to a bar to drown his frustrations.
Getting drunk might not have been the smartest thing to do—as he wakes in a strange, handsome alien’s bed, with no memory of the night before. When that strange alien calls him mate, Del thinks that maybe all his problems are over. He finally has a job. Or does he?
Quinn wants love and a family, but his duty as captain to a Xolian space cruiser leaves little time for forging relationships. When drunk and adorable human Del propositions him in a space bar, begging to be his first mate, Quinn hopes that maybe he can have both duty and love. Until the next morning, when the alcohol wears off and cultural barriers and misunderstandings set off a chain reaction of mayhem, mischief, and trouble that follows Del wherever he goes.
A relationship that began as a mistake may become something more—bound by love and desire, and all they must do now is survive the journey.
**Gay sci-fi romance featuring a sassy human, an irascible alien captain, and adventure beyond both their dreams.**
Review: Del wakes up next to Quinn a Xolian. He is informed that they are mates and Del freaks out as he is human and had no intentions of being mated. Guess he should not have been drinking huh.
What follows is Del fleeing in a panic, getting taken as a pet and being rescued. All while still trying to come to grips with Quinn.
I loved Del’s fiestiness and sarcasm. Quinn for his part was tough yet gentle with his mate. The punishment thing threw me a bit as I personally would have punched Quinn if he had done to me what he did to Del. But, Del understood the need for his following the rules to keep himself safe.
I thought it was a great story with plenty of adventure and antics that caused me to laugh several times as well as hold my breath awaiting the outcome. Especially the scene with with Quinn’s parents and the general. Well written and keeps the readers attention from start to finish. I hope this will be an ongoing series as I would like to read about the other crew members as well.
Blurb: When a series of bombs go off in a Therian youth center, injuring members of THIRDS Team Destructive Delta and causing a rift between agents Dexter J. Daley and Sloane Brodie, peace seems unattainable. Especially when a new and frightening group, the Order of Adrasteia, appears to always be a step ahead. With panic and intolerance spreading and streets becoming littered with the Order’s propaganda, hostility between Humans and Therians grows daily. Dex and Sloane, along with the rest of the team, are determined to take down the Order and restore peace, not to mention settle a personal score. But the deeper the team investigates the bombings, the more they believe there’s a more sinister motive than a desire to shed blood and spread chaos.
Discovering the frightful truth behind the Order’s intent forces Sloane to confront secrets from a past he thought he’d left behind for good, a past that could not only destroy him and his career, but also the reputation of the organization that made him all he is today. Now more than ever, Dex and Sloane need each other, and, along with trust, the strength of their bond will mean the difference between justice and all-out war.
Review: This has got to be one of my favorite series to listen to. I look forward to getting paid and being able to purchase the next book in this series. Getting ready for work I make sure my iPod is charged and that the story is ready to go. I turn it on to listen all the way to work and then here I am jumping up and down at Dex and Sloan. Makes my co-workers look at me funny when I have this shit eating grin on my face when Dex does something crazy, and you know he will. He is always there for a laugh, a joke or even a hug. I also love the way he is with his baby brother.
Mark Westfield always manages to bring them alive for me and for that it makes this story even better. He has the best pitch for each character and makes them just jump out at you. You can feel the happiness, the cheerful grins and laughter, the anger and the pain, and even the goofy attitudes from the others. Mark has got to be the best voice for this series. I always look forward to hearing the voices he can do every morning.
Dex has not been on the team for very long, but he is starting to fit in. He will do everything to keep his friends and his family safe. As one knows your team is your family. The man behind the killings and explosions is needing to be stopped, but when a bomb goes off at the youth center it brings it all forward. He did what he needed to keep his teammate safe, which means breaking the rules. It causes a rift between him and Sloan, but by gods he is standing his ground.
For Sloan it brings what he had lost to the for front right along with the pain of losing his lover. He knows full well what Dex did is right but for the life of him he just can’t fix it. His secrets are about to come out and he fears what Dex will think. He should trust in his partner and learn to forgive himself.
The guys are moving forward very slowly to an outcome that will have them experiences something good. I love the way this story captures you and keeps your attention to the very end. For me it had me aching to get my hands on the next story even before finishing the one I am listing to. I came across Charlie not too long ago and she has made her way to being one of my favorite authors of all time.
When you sit down and have a book in your hand you are feeling what you think they are, but when you are listening to them talk and argue it brings your feelings on even stronger. Charlie has such a gift that shows how an alpha predator can feel something stronger than you would think. I love how you can tell that even though Sloan is strong, he still feels lost. It makes him even more powerful in my eyes. Whereas Dex even though he is laughing and telling jokes, you can feel his pain at the same time. You just know that he is covering parts of what he feels from others, but those around him do everything they can to show him that he is definitely wanted.
This story has a serious tone to it, but damn you can see the humor in it which for me is a top reason to read. Even now I am wanting to start the next story right away. I bought this story a few months ago and have listened to it at least five times a week. So now I finally set down to show you how good this story is. It even brings tears to my eyes with the pain they feel at the loss of one so important and by the hands of someone who was supposed to have loved him. This story brings out more than feelings I suppose.
I think for me the best part was Cael telling Sloan about the vacuum cleaner and Dex. That was the best part ever. I spent most of the time just laughing my ass off at that. I absolutely loved this book and would definitely recommend it. I can’t wait to start on book three.

On Andross Station
by
J.C. Long
Hikaru Adachi has come to Andross Station to discover what happened to colleague and fellow Inquisitor Katya. Thane, a tracer, has arrived at the station seeking a bounty on Galen Horn, one of the Unity of Planets’ most wanted men. They will find their paths cross as their interests intersect, and soon they are on a hunt that is more dangerous than they know, for Horn has enlisted some dangerous allies, including one from Thane’s past. If Thane and Hikaru together can’t bring Horn down, he will set in motion a plot that will see the entire station destroyed in an attack of massive proportions.
