Blurb: In his neighborhood, El Martin stands out, and that can be life-threatening. Against the odds, heโs managed to graduate high school and then master IT. Now heโs desperate to get a good job to free his drunken dad and himself from the control of gang leader M2 and the drugs he sells. But with his piercings and his slang-ridden speech, El looks and sounds like a Bronx gangbanger, and potential employers wonโt give him a second look. So when El hears about Henry Fairhaven, PhD, linguistics researcher and wealthy New York socialite, El takes his life in his hands to escape from M2 and ends up sleeping in the stairwell at Henryโs building, hoping to learn how to speak.
To Henry, who wants to prove himself as a scholar and not merely a rich dilettante, El isnโt only the most beautiful man heโs ever seenโheโs also the key to getting a paper published on Henryโs ground-breaking linguistics methods before a competitor beats him to the punch. But Henry doesnโt tell El the truth, and El thinks Henryโs helping him because he cares.
Elโs dreams collide with Henryโs ambitions at the elegant Met Gala, where El captivates a prince of Silicon Valley. But the real collision comes when M2 tracks El down and Henry has to choose between the validation he craves and a future with the man heโs come to love.

Review: Love and Linguistics is the second novel in Tara Lainโs Move Magic series. This works as a standalone book, since there is no plot or characters that join the two books together. I think why it is part of the same series is a rather tenuous connection where the characters in the first book love movies and talk about them, while in this book we have direct reference to My Fair Lady. Doesnโt matter, regardless, it is an enjoyable book.
As I said, this is very much a modern take on the classic movie, My Fair Lady, to the point even the character who is the benefactor acknowledges he needs a Miss Eliza Doolittle. For those that arenโt familiar with the movie โ Henry Higgins, a wealthy man from high society, who happens to be a phonetics professor finds a rather unpolished woman who a low (i.e. poorer) social class. He teaches her how to talk, walk and dress like a โproper ladyโ and presents her to society.
It just so happens that in this book, Miss Doolittle is in fact a Mr Doolittle.
El (Elijah) Martin is a young man who has grown up in the slums of the Bronx, with a father who is alcoholic and now gang leader is adding drugs to his addiction. El is smart, he finished high school and has done community courses in IT, which he has excelled at. On paper he isnโt a bad prospect for an employer, but in person he looks and sounds like the same dangerous gang members he longs to get away from. At a job interview this is explained to him and he is given the card of one of the most successful linguistics researcher in New York. El doesnโt have the money to pay but heโs desperate to get out of the current hell that his life is becoming.
It takes a lot for El to finally make the move to get help from Henry Fairhaven. Henry is young, only thirty, but he is much more mature for his age and sometimes to me comes across as being much closer to forty. He comes from a rich family of socialites, which coupled with his chosen career is probably part of the reason why he is so mature. Henry also wants to beat one of his rivals in linguistics (and on the social scene) and when El comes in with enthusiasm to change but no money, Henry sees the โMiss Doolittleโ that he needs to prove that his developed methodology of linguistics and social training works. So, Henry, with the help of his assistant and a friend who was one of his successes, takes El under his wing and readily foots the bill for everything and has El staying in his home because El has nowhere else to go.
The only snag is that El doesnโt know that he is the subject what is intended to become a research paper. At first he is told he has a sort of scholarship, and then as he and Henry get closer he believes it is out of friendship. Henry and El fight their attraction from the start โ or more accurately, Henry fights their attraction because he doesnโt like the ethical implications of being involved with a client/student.
However, things come to a head at the Met Gala, the ball that is Elโs graduation. Not only does the full truth come out, but Elโs life is also in danger. Both Henry and El need to face up to certain truths or else there is not going to be a chance of a HEA for them.

Blurb: No indiscriminate killing. No collateral damage. No unvetted targets.
These are the rules Hawes Madigan lives by. Rules that make being Fog City’s Prince of Killers bearable. Soon, he’ll be king–of an organization of assassins–and the crown has never felt heavier. Until the mysterious Dante Perry swaggers into his life.
Dante looks like a rock god and carries himself like one too, all loose-limbed and casually confident. He also carries a concealed weapon, a private investigator’s license, and a message for the prince. Someone inside Hawes’s organization is out to kill the future king.
In the chaos that follows the timely warning, Hawes comes to depend on Dante. On his skills as an investigator, on the steadiness he offers, and on their moments alone when Hawes lets Dante take control. As alliances are tested and traitors exposed, Hawes needs Dante at his back and in his bed. But if the PI ever learns Hawes’s darkest secret, Hawes is sure to get a knife to the heart–and a bullet to the brain–instead.
There’s no shortage of twists and turns in this new romantic suspense trilogy from Layla Reyne. Prince of Killers is book one of three. Fair warning: buckle up, cliffhangers ahead!

Review: Hawes is the prince of killers. A title he hates. He’s trying to take the family business in a different direction by not killing innocents. There are those that are not happy. The P.I. he meets, Dante, is a mystery. Everything checks out on him.
Though I liked the story I had a few problems with things throughout. For instance Holt, Hawes brother never discovered the damning evidence on a particular person until it was too late. Yet we were never told how he found out. I honestly thought Hawes was a little too trusting of Dante. I mean Hawes is an assassin, you would think he’d know better than bring a complete stranger into his home and around his family given the cliffhanger at the end.
There were other things but these bothered me the most. Aside from those things it was an enjoyable action packed, suspense filled read with plenty of drama and betrayal.
I am looking forward to reading the next book to see what happens next.

Review: Each book in the Maple Grove collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc I would suggest reading them in sequential order. This story is connect to the Brac Pack series, which has many branched off series.
Jude is a sweet heart of a vampire. He has not had an easy life. He had almost been killed twice and one of those times was by his own uncle. He had killed that asshat but now his family wanted him dead. When a friend asks him to hang out with him, it leads him to someone he had not expected, his mate.
Reese is a rhino shifter who like many rhinoโs has a temper but manages to keep it down. It would seem his mate had a way of driving him crazy though. What neither expected was Jude to become pregnant.
Pretty interesting story going on with this one. I have always liked reading this authorโs work and have not been let down. It always has a serious tone to it but there is so much humor in it one would not expect it. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end.
I had a blast reading it and look forward to reading the next story. I can guarantee that it will be read many times over.

Review: Noah’s world collapses when he gets a call about his father’ death. Grief stricken he goes back home and tries to settle his father’s affairs. He finds out his dad was in debt and now he finds himself trying to come up with the money to pay off the debts.
He meets shy, sweet Kyle. But Kyle has been brought up in seclusion and taught that being gay is a sin. As the two slowly get to know one another they seem to bring out the best in each other despite their differences. I liked this story. it had several different aspects that appealed to me.
A past bully in Noah’s life tries to make trouble for him now, Kyle’s past comes back to haunt him and there’s a ghost in the book store. I loved the way the story unfolded as the scenes played out. They were entertaining to say the least.
Great read.

Review: Benjamin is basically trapped in a job he hates. He first starts out cleaning after an experiment or death, then moves to an executive job. He is now a doctor who helps to work on them. He however has found himself falling in love with one of the men who was being experimented on and needed a way to free him.
Nikolai was taken from an orphanage, separated from his twin, experimented on and tortured. There is one man whom he finds interesting. The only man that has been kind to him. But things are getting harsher and he knows it will soon be his death.
First off Micah is his twin, which he Nikolai remembers yet Micah doesnโt. How does that even factor in. There is so much jumble mixture in this story that it will leave a reader with more questions then answers. Micah went through hell, but when you hear about Nikolai, well lets just say it gets even worse. Now for the problems in this story, well there were way too many. First off if this place is so secure that no one can get away with anything, then how the hell does he get away with stealing dead bodies. Also there is the fact that they are having sex in the room where Nikolai is. It came off as though the sex scene was just thrown in there to up the game. Then they blew up the lab, well what about all the other prisoners they stated was there. Why not blow the place up in the first book. Like I said there was just too much thrown in that made it all jumbled.
The first book was a questionable read so I wanted to just give the second book a chance, but it really was so similar as the first one. They were going to rescue all and then destroy the place, yet you only have two rescued. The fact that they rescued themselves with very little help from the outside was sketchy. Over all this book had potential but failed to deliver.
I can honestly say that this is one of those series that is only read once. I hate to admit that I didnโt really get into this story and canโt see myself looking for the next book.

Review: This book finds Ales being sent get an agreement on a planet by his lover Turo. While there he realizes he does not like the way things are going between him and Turo and so ensues a lot of thinking and realizations on the matter. Ales struggles with who he has become and who he wants to be.
There are a lot of twists and turns, double crosses and betrayal are all in abundance with this installment of the series. Some I never saw coming others I did. It also has a dreary feel to the story, given what happens I understood.
It was an interesting mix as the story unfolded. I was intrigued by the twists and such. I felt that Ales needed to leave certain people alone for his own sanity. As always these books must be read in order as they pick up where the previous one ends. This story ends on a cliffhanger that will continue in the next book.
Great read.

Review: Heartward is a standalone by Andrew Grey. I am unashamedly a massive fan of Greyโs books, he has a great knack for writing stories of tough men in uniform, who are really just down to earth, ordinary men, as well as heartfelt stories involving vulnerable children. And luckily for us, Heartward, is a wonderful combination of these.
The story starts out with firefighter Tyler Banik. Heโs left his hometown some years ago in his wish to help people, which led him to working disaster relief all over the world. However, things have changed now that Tyler has adopted a traumatised child named Abey. To give Abey stability that he needs and the support that Tyler needs as a single dad, Tyler returns to his hometown where his parents still live. Tyler has got a new job as part of the local crew of firefighters, and while it is a change of pace, he sees a lot that needs fixing โ particularly when he comes face to face with an incompetent superior who holds a lot of power.
Then there is Alan Pettapin, he and Tyler were something of enemies in high school, in one of those ways where the rift was caused by assumptions and jealousies in the way that teenagers are so good at doing. However, Alan has changed โ for the better โ he is a successful business owner, and much like Tyler, wishes to help people. That is how Alan has ended up on the local council, but much like Tyler he knows that there are people in power abusing their privileges.
Between getting to know each other โ properly, as adults, finding the actual enemies, and Tyler finding his feet again and pouring his devotion onto Abey, the two men manage to find love as they grow closer.
Abey, the little boy that Tyler adopts is adorable and so completely vulnerable because of the circumstances he had been in before Tyler finds him. His story really tugs at the heart strings and his character also gives Tyler so much depth as he learn their shared backstory. Then there is the part of the plot which deals with corrupt council officials, I really likes this because as a reader we get a real strong indication of the shared moral values held by Tyler and Alan and just how much they care for other people. Finally, there is the personal aspect, which is essentially how Tyler and Alan move from high school enemies meeting as adults to two men falling in love. Each aspect of this story gives great insight and depth to the characters, which just added to the chemistry I felt on the page between the two men.
Overall, a really enjoyable book. I recommend this to fans of Andrew Grey, those that love a firefighter finding his love and family and those that love a good romance with a kid adding to the family.

Blurb: The South Pacific Archipelago is home to a tiny island community of around three hundred scientistsโฆ and twenty thousand dinosaurs. As a paleogeneticist, Kit Sterling leads a team studying the dinosaurs to unlock the unanswered questions of evolution.
But there is something more dangerous than dinosaurs on the islands.
Head ranger Logan Beck discovers evidence of poachers, while rumors of a black market for dinosaur leather swirl around the community. Kit and Logan havenโt always gotten along professionally, though that has nothing to do with their attraction to each other. So when theyโre thrown together to save an injured infant dinosaur, their professional disdain turns into a clandestine romance.
With not just the injured dinosaur at risk, but all of the precious dinosaurs on the islands too, Kit and Logan have to figure out how to balance their budding romance without letting their careers go extinct.

Review: Something Wild is a standalone romance by Anna Martin. While the author is known to me, nothing immediately comes to mind about any opinions that Iโve formed in the past. Letโs face it, I saw dinosaurs in the blurb and I was happy.
Iโm going to get my negativity out of the way first. While I loved the set up of the book, the themes and the characters, I felt that there was something missing in terms of spark between the MCs. The spark was there, but Iโm thinking that there wasnโt quite enough character development that meant that the book exceeded my expectations. TL:DR version โ I just wasnโt feeling โitโ a number of times throughout the book.
Now: the dinosaurs and the inevitable pop culture references.
Something Wild, to me, is like if Jurassic Park was a scientific commune combined with a national parks type of set-up, rather than a theme park. And the romance was as if Dr Grant (palaeontologist) and Robert Muldoon (Jurrasic Park game warden) discovered that they had romantic feelings for each other. In this world a small, isolated archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean was found to the be home of dinosaurs in the 1970s, when everyone had previously thought them extinct. Since them, the archipelago has become a protected site for these amazing animals, with the only people are the scientists who study and protect the creatures.
Basically, what you see in the blurb is what you get in the book. So there isnโt any real surprises, and to be honest with the poaching subplot, I had that figured out pretty quickly. Nonetheless it was good to see how the characters arrived at their conclusions in the end, and our heroes saved the day.
The MCs are palaeogeneticist, Kit Sterling and head ranger, Logan Beck. In the big scheme of things, Kit and Logan are nemeses by any stretch of the imagination. Instead they have a complicated relationship at the start simply because their work does not bring them together all that often. I mean, yeah, Kit and Logan would have encountered the usual academic arguments you see these days of whose name should be included on published papers, and at what line do you draw between acknowledging someone to giving them authorship. But again, in the big scheme of things, thatโs actually normal in the academic world.
As a palaeoscientist specialising in dinosaur genetics, Kit doesnโt venture into the wilds of the dinosaur habitat, instead getting information and samples (from blood to carcasses) from the rangers. He is also on the ethics committee, and so he has a particular and stringent set of rules that he requires the rangers to follow when they are out among the dinosaurs.
Then there is Logan is essentially a field scientist, who had previously worked in safari parks in Africa, after completing his PhD (he is referred to as Dr Beck numerous times and is explained in the beginning) he found his calling in the wild with animals, although that also meant that many lab-based scientists overlooked his expertise. He loves working with the dinosaurs on the archipelago and is meticulous when it comes to ensuring the care of all animals on the islands.
It is perhaps fortunate that Loganโs experience in Africa means that he recognises the signs of poachers on the Island, which coincides with the possibility of dinosaur leather being sold on the black market is brought to Kitโs attention. This is the catalyst which brings Kit and Logan together, to actually work together in the field and in the lab, getting to know each other. Add in the sweetest little runt of a dinosaur, Dizzy, which pulls at Kitโs heart and has him going against the ethics code and I was happy. You can see that Kit and Logan have so much potential as they work together to find out about the poachers and foster the injured dinosaur.

Review: Xin and Jonathan travel to a dying planet desperate to reconnect with civilization no matter the cost. When the inhabitants refuse to cooperate with them yet still want their help Xin and Jonathan become embroiled a in a fight for their lives when they realize this planets inhabitants want their help even at the cost of their lives.
I liked that despite the dangerous situations these two grow closer as the story progresses. Though this story is different than the last two in that the crew is not involved as with the previous books I still enjoyed the story. Suspense and drama along with action and romance play a big roll in this addition to the series.
Xin and Jonathan were great together. I loved their dynamic and the way the story unfolded.
Great read.

Review: Each book in the Geek Squad collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Abe was part of the same military team as Ianโs boyfriend was. So when the geek squad need rescue they were the ones who went in to help. Abe has always wanted Danny from the moment he saw him and now might just be the chance. But this time Abe is the one who needs to be rescued.
Fascinating, entertaining, unique and some hot sexy times are just a little of what you get in this story. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. However I wasnโt too surprised because this is one author who I will always be on the lookout for her books. The worlds that are created and the characters are a blast to read. I love the closeness that these guys have going on with each other.
I had a blast reading this and canโt wait to get my hands on the next book. I can guarantee that this is one of those stories that will be read many times over.

Review: I liked this sequel to Harry and Sam’s previous story. There are twists and turns as Sam struggles with his growing abilities and keeping them a secret from Harry. But there is someone who is bound and determined to get Sam to use said powers for their own gain.
The story see’s things on a deeper level as the group tries to navigate their way through a throng of people with bad intentions. Sam for his part struggles with his secret plus the dreams he’s been having. There are great characters throughout that bring this story to life with amazing details that capture your attention and keep it riveted until the end.
I enjoyed the first book in this series as well as this book. An amazing addition to the series that held me spell bound from to start to finish.
Great read.

Review: Micah is known as Forty-Seven. He was taken from an orphanage in Russia and kept in a lab from that time on. He has been experimented on, tortured and was ready to die. They knew that with pain he would shift in to the wolf they created in him. One night he managed to kill the doctor and escape, only to be rescued by a sweet man.
Adam had no clue what was going on. He found a sexy man, naked and shot. He brought him home to help but damn if things are not going to get real interesting.
In the blurb he only knows himself by the name Forty-Seven, however within the first chapter he knows his name is Micah. However you kind of figure out his name before then because the author let it drop before hand. The story itself would be amazing if it didnโt come off so wacky. There are so many holes in the story that I could have driven a truck through it. There are many questions in how Micah acts the way he does when he was held captive for quite a long while. It would be impossible. Captive and tortured one would act more like a very scared rabbit but he is not.
Also Adam finds this naked guy with a gun shot, brings him home, tends to his wounds and gets all touchy with him, before he even knows his story. That is so far blown off that it was just not reasonable. There were more questions then answers for me. Then there is Anna and Jimmy. They know what is going on and is trying to help but lets face it, they donโt really seem like they did much in the beginning. And to mention beginnings, well it just starts off fast and kept on going. Didnโt really give you a time to get drawn in before you feel like you have been dropped.
Like I said above, it does have great potential and for a first story that is a good sign. I will just have to waive my full ruling on the series for now. Luna was a good start with this story, she rocked.

Blurb: The only way out of Pine Hollow was to mate the alpha who didn’t want him.
Adam knew bounty hunting in another pack’s territory had risks, but being at the end of a shotgun for a forced mating was not one he expected. At least it wasn’t permanent. Once he paid the promised cut of the bounty the leader of Pine Hollow would dissolve the mating. Adam just needed to keep his hands (and his teeth) away from the enticing omega.
Ricky knew nothing about the outside world, but he knew his days at Pine Hollow were numbered. The barren, widowed omega’s best chance for survival was to find a mate at Lone Wolves Ranch. Anyone would do. Anyone but the ornery wolf who bit him. Adam said he didn’t want a mate, so why was he acting like a knot-blocker?
The Shifter’s Shotgun Mating is the second book in the Lone Wolves Ranch series of slow-burn M/M shifter Mpreg stories. It can be read as a stand-alone though secondary character’s lives continue from The Cub Club.

Review: Adam is part of a bounty team of paranormal’s for hire. Adam is fierce and loves his job. He’s on a mission to take in Gus, a known murderer. When he travels through Pine Hollow the local alpha insist he take someone with them so they can collect some of the reward as well since they will be in their territory. Things go bad when that person, Rock is killed. Adam and a few of his crew are injured and the alpha of Pine Hollow insists that he mate Ricky, Rock’s widow until they catch Gus.
I understood Adam’s anger at being forced to mate against his will. I even understood his reservations about Ricky’s omega gifts. However I could not condone or understand his treatment of Ricky. He was downright mean to the man. It was not his fault they were mated. It was not his fault that Rock was killed and Adam had to pay the price.
I was glad Ricky got out of the situation with Pine Hollow. I genuinely felt his amazement at the world past Pine Hollow considering he never stepped foot outside their territory. It tickled me how Adam would get jealous at the other wolves around Ricky. it was just what he needed to see what was right in front of him and to stop fighting his feelings.
Fantastic read with plenty of laughs, romance and action.

Review: The Return of the Chauffeurโs Son is a standalone book by Tara Lain. Tara Lain is not an unknown author for me and I have enjoyed a number of her books and the writing style that she uses. In fact, Iโve actually heard the audio of this book but hadnโt yet read it until now. Itโs sweet and charming and had me engrossed from start to finish. Itโs one of those books that I think just about anyone could listen or read this book and enjoy their escape from reality.
The story starts with Luca McGrath finding his way home to California after some years away in college and then making his name as an up and coming chef. He was raised in Napa Valley by his father after the death of his mother. Luca grew up on the Armstrong winery estate where his father was the family chauffeur. The Armstrong family supported Luca and his father after the death of Lucaโs mother, although he was a baby at the time. As a result, Luca grew up alongside Armstrong boys, more so James who is Lucaโs best friend and Lucaโs first crush..
Lucaโs homecoming is joyous but things are complicated when it comes to the Armstrong brothers. While Luca has spent so many years of his life pining away for James, he begins to learn that that he entirely overlooked Jamesโs much older brother, Dylan. Dylan is helping Luca with just about everything but doesnโt know how to communicate his feelings. He is the strong and stoic type and there is no end to his chivalry, with his need to protect his baby brother. While James is a playboy, who is now engaged and seems keen to now suddenly explore his sexuality. Dylan is frustrated because he is attracted to Luca, but his parents are dismissing Jamesโ behaviour as James continued hero worship of his out and proud, gay older brother.
Luca and Dylan donโt know much about each other, that much is clear from the start. However, as they get to know each other there is a lot they have in common, including a passion for movies and once again they have startling similar tastes. Itโs just another point that shows that there is more beneath the surface.
Overall, this is a fun, sweet and sexy novel that shows us that sometimes a HEA is right in front of us and with the person least expected.
