Blurb: It might be a sham to his boss, but it’s all too real to him.

Administrative assistant Jonah Hollis has nurtured a hopeless crush on his boss, millionaire cattle rancher Lincoln Courtwright, ever since he started working for him. But hope is kindled when Linc and beautiful rodeo star Melissa Cutler break up just weeks before the biggest event of the Dallas social season, the Cattle Baron’s Ball, and Linc asks Jonah to accompany him in her place.

Is it all a ploy to make Melissa jealous? Can Jonah fit into Linc’s world? It takes some encouragement from his roommates and his best friend, Caylee, for Jonah to agree. Before long, Jonah dares to believe Linc might just feel something for him, until interfering family and a series of misunderstandings threaten his fragile dream of happiness.

Review: The Cattle Baron’s Bogus Boyfriend by Nicki Bennett is an installment in the Dreamspun Desires series (all books are standalone, by different authors and totally unrelated). I have to admit, that I actually read this one some months ago when it came out, but snapped up the chance to hear the audio because it was such a sweet and delightful story.

This also happens to be the second book I’ve heard narrated by Rusty Topsfield and I have to say. If the next narration is like the first two, Rusty Topsfield will become an instant favourite to listen to and would consider a book based on his narration alone. At the moment that list for me of favourite narrators only has John Solo and Nick J Russo. Rusty Topsfield is a versatile narrator and manages to come through with the necessary emotion and strength required of many characters.

Much like the first time I read The Cattle Baron’s Bogus Boyfriend, I was drawn immediately because I immediately recognized it as something I would see in such Harlequin/Mills and Boon plot. In fact, I think I have read at least three MF stories from Harlequin where millionaire cowboy/cattle baron falls in love with his PA (though in the MF scenario, the PA always ends up pregnant and unless this was paranormal M-preg, I don’t see that happening here, lol). This book, for me, was as enjoyable to listen to as it was to read.

It was everything that I expected and hoped for and I absolutely loved it. Even the drama at the end, because of course there is miscommunication, is straight exactly what you’d see in many other romances, though doubtless readers will be thinking “that does not seem real, wait and talk, damnit!” The story follows Jonah Hollis, the administrative assistant to cattle and oil, Texan millionaire Lincoln Courtright. He also happens to be gay and has a hopeless crush on his boss, despite the fact that Linc has a girlfriend. But when Lincoln’s relationship breaks down, Jonah finds out that things are not always what he thought they were and his billionaire boss, if nothing else, to form a friendship with Jonah.

There is a rather quirky cast of supporting characters, all of whom are a joy – I particularly love Jonah’s BFF Caylee and his BFF in Texas, Wes. I would love a story for Wes and Linc’s foreman. Wes is one of those minor characters that take on a life of his own without taking away from the main characters. The end, while satisfying is also insanely cute. I absolutely love it, all the loose ends are tied together and the important people in both Jonah’s and Linc’s lives are involved. This is the type of story that will give you a goofy smile.

Blurb: What starts out as a one-night stand ends up changing two men forever.

Joaquin Almodovar has been disowned by his family and shot by a mad man. To say that he’s had a few bad months would be an understatement. When he finds out he can’t be the vaquero he’s always been due to the extent of his injuries, Joaquin is even more lost than ever.

He might be the best-lookin’ man at the Mossy Glenn, according to Hector and the others, but that doesn’t make Joaquin a man at all. Not when he can’t cowboy up like he used to. Learning that there’s more to him than the job he’s always loved isn’t easy, and Joaquin’s not a hundred percent certain he’s up to the task. In fact, he’s lost so much faith in himself that he doesn’t know what or who to believe in anymore.

Time heals all wounds, the saying goes, but it sure doesn’t seem to be doing much to heal Joaquin. It’ll take the help of a man he shouldn’t trust to learn that there’s more to himself than how well he sits a saddle, and how good he is with a rope.

Reader Advisory: This book contains references to domestic abuse and child abuse, and the backstory involves kidnapping and enslavement.

Review: This is book 8 of the Mossy Glenn series. Some of them stand alone pretty well, but it is best if you read them in order. For this one I at least suggest you read Hay bales and Heartache Mossy Glenn 7.

Vaqueros and Vigilance pick up with Joaquim recovering from getting shot. The doctors say he will not gain full use of his arm, but he is determined to prove them wrong. Staying at a hotel and being bored he goes to the gay bar and meets Everett. He is a cute little twink, but there is something about his eyes that he keeps dreaming about. Little does he know that Everett isn’t who he seems.

The romance moves very fast between Joaquim and Seb once it gets going. The story is full of hot man sex. Seb’s story has a lot of angst as his past is revealed. There is some sadness in Joaquim’s as well. We get to see Will, Carlos, and Troy again and as always, Will lends some comic relief to the angsty feel.

There is a lot of sex, and I mean a lot. It is very hot and steamy!

The only thing I would have like to have known a little more about Sebastian. How he came to be on the Mossy Glenn in the last episode. That wasn’t revealed yet.

I kept watching for new characters to see if I could guess who the next book would be about since there weren’t as many characters in this as usual. The only suspect I found was Craig, Joaquim’s therapist. That could be interesting. But then all the Mossy Glenn are!

If you like broken cowboys, young men finding themselves, homeless finding a home, Insta love (yes I felt this was a love at nearly first sight since the story encompasses a few days), a great romance and some very hot man-sex you will enjoy this book!

Ford arrives at the Leaning N to find Stoney, now a single father, right where he left him. A fist fight, a snowstorm, and a stolen kiss in the barn later—Ford knows none of the heat between them has dissipated.

Purchase Link: https://www.dreamspinnerpress.com/books/commitment-ranch-by-ba-tortuga-7433-b

Review: When Ford’s Uncle Ty asks for his help Ford doesn’t hesitate to rush back to the ranch he hasn’t set foot on in twelve years. Ford returns to the Leaning N not looking forward to seeing his ex-boyfriend Stoney, the man who preferred the ranch and knocked up Ford’s cousin. But even with twelve years and a child putting distance between them Ford’s feelings for Stoney haven’t changed and when Stoney reveals a secret Ford can’t fight how he truly feels for Stoney.

This is a great story that has two men reuniting and finally putting the misunderstandings between them to rest. Ford is a great character who is struggling with his resentment for Stoney, having to work with Stoney proves to be like getting blood from a stone, they clash, bitch at each other and Ford wants nothing more than go punch Stoney. Stoney is a solid character who doesn’t believe he is any good at anything other than being a cowboy, Stoney resents Ford coming home, and he resents Ty asking him to work with Ford but if the Leaning N is going to keep going he needs Fords help.

I really like how this story was written, while Ford and Stoney’s relationship plays out throughout the story we also have them learning to work together, moving forward to improve the ranch, we have Ford trying to find his place as the people who work on the ranch are like family and we also have some great characters who shine like Quartz (Stoney’s son) and Geoff (the vegan cook).

The story is easy to follow and is well paced; there are some hot moments between Ford and Stoney and some tense moments (snowstorm), the relationship doesn’t instantly strike up again when Ford and Stoney meet again in fact it takes quite some time before they are even in the same room without them wanting to punch each other. B.A. Tortuga has again written a story that produces some warm and fuzzy feelings and while it does have tension it isn’t angsty.

I recommend this to those who love second chance love stories, who adore characters who can put the past behind them for a new future, and great characters who are determined to get a happy ending.

Review: I always enjoy a hot cowboy story, but Trial by Fire is an interesting clash of Aussie cowboy vs. Texan cowboy, with a bit of kidnapping/murder plot and baby custody fight throw in.

Of course animosity and posturing quickly lead to burning desire and mutual respect for Lachlan and Holden. They both quickly realize their first impressions were wrong and work together to solve the issue of their niece’s care and a plot that may destroy their little family.

A fun, sexy, sometimes eye-rollingly predicable adventure, with a fun little kidnapping mystery thrown in. This narrator did a good job for the most part but I had a difficult time keeping all of the different character’s accents straight.

Trial By Fire kept me entertained through five hours of back breaking yard work. Worth a listen for sure.

Blurb: Who wouldn’t want a do over?

When Thaine wakes up in the hospital after a bull-riding injury, he immediately asks for his lover, Jerry. He has no idea who this man next to his bed is, despite the fact Drew insists they have been an item for the last five years.

Thaine’s best friend, Jesse, calls Jerry. He thinks it’s a pretty crappy thing to do to the new boyfriend, but tells himself it’s unlikely Jerry will come after so many years. He also doesn’t get why Thaine would pass up the opportunity to be with Drew since he’s young, optimistic, and hardworking. In short, everything Jesse ever wanted in a man.

Jerry still carries a torch for his cowboy, so when Thaine asks to go home with him to recover, Jerry agrees. At first they pick up their intense physical relationship right where they left it before the breakup. Review: Amnesia by Sean Michael, I have to admit, is pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. In many ways it’s a relaxing read because from just reading the blurb I figured out what was going to happen, i.e. who ends up with whom. For me Sean Michael books go into 2 categories – “love it” or “hate it”, or perhaps more accurately, because I rarely fully outright hate a book, “I can’t put it down” or “can’t keep my interest”. Obviously, considering I’ve given this a good rating, this one falls into the former category.

There are four main players in this book: Thaine (who has amnesia after falling a bull), Drew (the current boyfriend Thaine has no memory of), Jerry (the ex that Thaine thinks they are still together) and Jesse (Thaine’s best friend who wants to protect him from Jerry – who is selfish – yet has feelings for Drew). I honestly think if you’ve read the blurb and read this you have already figured out what happens. For me, though, I am a sucker for the melodrama that comes from the whole amnesia thing and the ex boyfriend swooping in the save the day.

Two things that did piss me off that, however, were all about Jerry. 1) He was an arsehole. Simple as that, but thankfully there is such a thing as character development. 2) When he and Thaine initially broke up 5 years earlier he really didn’t try and so really, Thaine was better off with him. But Amnesia is really all about second chances, because people can change when they have their own epiphanies. In fact, all the characters see things from a different light when their lives are changed the day Thaine are almost killed during competition.

Amnesia, I think, will be a guilty pleasure for anyone who loves the melodrama of amnesia and life or death situations. Also, for anyone who loves a cowboy, you will not be disappointed. In fact, I found myself falling just a little bit in love with Thaine and Jerry… and I find myself wanting to know more about Jesse and Drew.

Blurb: After a century apart, Mack and Jason rediscover their love and lust, but will trying to fit into a modern world keep them together or tear them apart?

When vampire lovers Mack and Jason are reunited after decades apart, they think of nothing but each other’s company. But over time, Mack’s old-world views conflict with Jason’s liberated life, and it throws them into a spiral of confused despair. When Mack seeks solace in the arms of another and Jason’s ex-lover Greg is murdered, their relationship breaks down and Mack flees.

While in solitude, Mack is handed the surprise opportunity to rekindle a relationship with his returned, now-vampire father, Allen. They return to Sydney to introduce him to Jason, but Jason has already sought revenge on Mack’s lover and committed an atrocity of his own. Fractured so soon after their reunion, the three of them travel back to where it all began, in the country town of Wattlebrook.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of violence and death.

Publisher’s Note: This book is a stand alone title but is best read as a sequal to Blood of the Land.

Review: I was glad that things left unanswered in the first book were resolved in this one. I liked the details regarding the history as it fascinated me. As per the first book this one was bloody but I figured that after reading book one.

Though I understood immortal vampires living hundreds of years and getting bored I did not understand why Mack and Jason intentionally hurt one another at times. It seemed as though they did not want to be together one moment then the next things were fine. Maybe they should talk more instead of arguing.

All in all it was a good sequel.

Review: This book is part of a series and is best read/listened to in order.

Scott is struggling not only with his part in what happened to Tripp but his own sexuality. With the help of his dear friend and beard Brandy he has made some decisions. First: to confront Tripp and Marty. Tripp gets him to work in the LGBT rodeo circuit helping him train bull riders and to perhaps work back into getting ready to ride himself again after being out of the rodeo for over 2 years.

When Scott meets Cory, a sweet pickup man that battles harassment but still holds his own and never seems down. They develop a fast friendship. Scott soon feels more but isn’t quite ready to deal with it yet.

I have been waiting for Scott’s story. He was the man you loved to hate through the entire series so far. Now to see why he was so angry and full of hate was intriguing. I liked that there was so much going on here. I liked finding out why Scott had a thing against being gay and that he faced that as well as Tripp and Marty.  I liked the slow burn between Scott and Cory and the friends to lovers plot.

Dorian Bane is a great choice of narrator for this series. He has a deep rustic voice for Scott, yet he was able to pull off Cory’s sweeter, softer voice as well. He makes it easy to follow all the characters and pulls you deep into the story.

If you like rodeos, pickup men, coming out, friend to lovers and second chances (at friendships and other relationships) you will love this!

This is a book three in the series You can read or listen as a standalone as the backstory is worked in well but I highly recommend reading (or listening to the other two books first.) If you like cowboys, you won’t be sorry!

But hours before he arrives, Lois is in a terrible car accident that nearly takes her life, and Trace finds himself in charge of the ranch kitchen. Sounds simple enough and it’s the least he can do for his recuperating aunt.

Then Sawyer happens.

Sawyer is his aunt’s big, beautiful, muscle bound, incredibly sexy straight ranch manager. Someone who has no clue Trace is gay. And meeting the big man should have been okay, except it was in the middle of his aunt’s kitchen at five in the morning and Trace was nearly naked. Embarrassing? Yep. But the very next day Trace proceeded to ramp up his embarrassment by quantum leaps when he nearly sets his aunt’s house on fire and the brooding Sawyer has to come to the rescue.

Seems like Trace’s “luck” followed him.

Not to mention that Aunt Lois’s “accident” was actually attempted murder. And now, they just might want Trace dead, too.

Can Trace figure out who’s behind the attempts on his aunt’s life AND keep Sawyer from finding out he’s hot for the cowboy?

He probably can’t. But he’s going to try.

Midnight Rodeo: Belonging

by

Kiernan Kelly, Julia Talbot & B.A. Tortuga

What happens when rodeos start to get too tough for humans to compete in? Midnight Rodeo, of course, where supernatural creatures like shifters and vampires work for the prize money, and for the awe of their audience.

Light a Rocket by Julia Talbot

Rocket is probably the worst rider in Darque and Knight rodeo troupe. This cheetah shifter is fast as the wind, but he only has so many lives in his cat body, and he spends more time injured than not. Raven Walkingman is the number one cowboy in the Midnight Rodeo, at the top of his game. The two seem an unlikely match, but Raven enjoys doing things no one expects him to, including Rocket.

Raven likes his relationships casual, though, and when Rocket starts talking mates as shifters are wont to do, Raven pulls up the stakes. He has his animal spirit guides, his good friends, and his fancy trailer. He doesn’t need a ragtag cheetah falling in love with him. His spirit guides know better. They adore Rocket and are more than happy to support him, and abandon Raven, until the stubborn fool does the right thing.

Tails and Whiskers by BA Tortuga

Tiger shifter Dmitri loves the rodeo. Darque and Knight has become his home, and he adores all of his new friends. Still, his past as a circus animal causes him to hate injustice, so when he meets a trick rider and fox shifter, Dmitri is appalled to find that the hot little kit isn’t allowed inside the rodeo ground except when he works. In fact, none of the entertainers are allowed in, all being contractors and thus bound to a different boss, who happens to be a greedy goblin.

As Dmitri and Isaac learn to love one another, they find growing dissatisfaction with the status quo, and they go to their friends for support in forcing a policy change. Too bad there’s a certain goblin who doesn’t want to give up control of his workers. Can Dmitri and Isaac find a way to be together, and to make a change for the better of everyone at D&K?

Freaked Out by Kiernan Kelly

Gargoyle-shifter Killian has spent his life living and working with all different sorts of supernatural folk, but because he had three forms instead of two like most other shapeshifters, he’s always felt like a freak. His habit of keeping to himself and minding his own business has been his shield against being hurt, and to aid in that endeavor, he’s adopted a stony personality.

When a troupe of sideshow performers are hired by Darque and Knight to augment the rodeo, he’s forced to redefine his ideas of what constitutes beauty and what defines a freak. Meanwhile, the hard, protective shell he’s erected around his heart threatens to crack wide open under the tender touch of Micah, the sideshow’s hideous Snake Man.

B.A. Tortuga

When Kris Cerny walks back into Two Spirits, the art gallery he owns with Josh McPhee, all he wants is a clean break. Austin’s booming real estate market means the building he bought years ago is worth a fortune, and with the sale, he and Josh can finally go their separate ways. They won’t be reconciling, right? Josh may be sober now, but an addict is always going to be an addict, and Kris can’t take that chance again.

Josh isn’t willing to sell. Not yet. He’s discovered a new artist in Santa Fe he knows will put Two Spirits in the black, and if he can just make a success of the gallery, maybe he can earn Kris’s respect, if not recapture his love. He needs Kris to give him time for one more buying trip, one more gallery show. Josh wants nothing more than a final chance to make things right. Kris agrees to let Josh have this last ditch effort on one condition– he wants to go along for the ride. On the way Josh hopes they’ll find the next big thing in the art world as well as peace, forgiveness, and a love he thought was lost forever.

Review: Here we are with the third Whispering Pines Ranch installment and I had to ask myself before I cracked it open “can S.J.D Peterson really continue to give us such heart-wrenching, scream through your knuckle stories” and I could only hope.

Ty is still reeling from Lorcan’s return into Quinn’s life and bed.  his bitterness and anger are eating at him and the knife keeps getting turned every day that he sees Lorcan ‘flaunting’ around the ranch.  Ty just knows that Lorcan can never give Quinn what he really needs and he also knows that Lorcan runs when the going gets tough. Blake recognizes that Ty is a submissive and is harboring great pain, anger and resentment.  Blake knows what that type of feeling can do to a man so he sets out to try to help Ty find himself under all those feelings before it’s too late.

S.J.D. has again brought us a book that tears us in different directions as we get the feelings and impressions off each character.  But the one thing she never gives us is a bad guy and oh boy do you want there to be a bad guy in all her books. In this one , as the book progresses, your feelings get churned up as you try your best to process everything the characters are going through; Ty’s resentment, hate, want, longing and need, Blake’s loss, fear and want, Lorcan’s love, doubts and fear and then we have Quinn his protection, love and determination.

Ty is determined to drive Lorcan away and Lorcan is determined to stay.  Although, he has doubts about how easily he let Jess push him away, the worst thing about S.J.D. Peterson’s writing is that you empathize with both characters no matter how much you want one of them to be the bad guy.  Lorcan, because he easily walked away from Jess into Quinn’s arms.  Quinn, for opening his arms and welcoming him back whilst shoving Ty away just as they began to get close.  And Ty, for wanting Quinn so desperately that he would scare Lorcan.

Blake is a welcome character that is a lot more suited to Ty.  He sees Ty and he recognizes why Ty latched onto Quinn even before Ty does.  He helps Ty just when Ty needs it most and I think Ty helped Blake with his past quite a bit, too.  Blake does have a tragic past and it will break your heart especially when Ty realizes just where he was heading.  once you learn Ty’s past you realize why he seemed to latch onto Quinn like a heat seeking missile, just a bit of kindness was all it took.

I don’t have to tell you how well written this story is or how good the characters are because you have already read the first two books in the series and if you haven’t then what planet are you from? As always we have the lovely Conner and John who we see briefly and who S.J.D. is setting up for their own story which I have a feeling will make me cry. I am also waiting with much patience with my sledgehammer handy for Jess’s story. Lol.

So I have to recommend this to those who love pulling their hair out in frustration, biting knuckles in anger, stomping feet… lol If you love incredible hot sex, cowboys in love, hot BDSM and kink, anger, true feelings, and the beginning of a beautiful new relationship then this book is defiantly for you.
