Ardulum: First Don

(Ardulum 01)
by

J.S. Fields

The planet that vanishes. The planet that sleeps.

When Ardulum first appeared, the inhabitants brought agriculture, art and interstellar technology to the Neek people before vanishing back into space. Two hundred years later, Neek has joined the Charted Systems, a group of planets bound together through commerce and wormhole routes, where violence is nonexistent and technology has been built around the malleability of cellulose.

When the tramp transport Mercy’s Pledge accidentally stumbles into an armed confrontation between the Charted System sheriffs and an unknown species, the crew learns the high cost of peace—the enslavement and genetic manipulation of the Ardulan people. Now a young Neek, outcast from her world for refusal to worship ancient Ardulans as gods, must reconcile her planet’s religion with the slave child whom she has chosen to protect—a child whose ability to manipulate cellulose is reminiscent of the ancient myths of Ardulum. But protecting the child comes at a cost—the cultural destruction of her world and the deaths of billions of Charted System inhabitants.

Ardulum: Second Don

(Ardulum 02)

The Charted Systems are in pieces. Mercy’s Pledge is destroyed, and her captain dead. With no homes to return to, the remaining crew sets off on a journey to find the mythical planet of Ardulum—a planet where Emn might find her people, and Neek the answers she’s long sought. Finding the planet, however, brings a host of uncomfortable truths about Ardulum’s vision for the galaxy and Neek’s role in a religion that refuses to release her. Neek must balance her planet’s past and the unchecked power of the Ardulans with a budding relationship and a surprising revelation about her own genealogy.

Ardulum: Second Don blends space opera elements and hard science into a story about two women persistently bound to their past and a sentient planet determined to shape their future.

Ardulum: Third Don

(Ardulum 03)

The planet wakes.

Atalant is torn between two worlds. In uncharted space, head of a sentient planet, the new eld of Ardulum now leads the religion she once rejected. Emn is by her side, but the Mmnnuggl war brewing in the Charted Systems, threatening her homeworld of Neek, cannot be ignored. Atalant must return to the planet that exiled her in order to lead the resistance. She must return home a god, a hypocrite, a liar in gold robes, and decide whether to thrust her unwilling people into the truth of Ardulum, or play the role she has been handed and never see her family, or her world, again.

Review: This story is an interesting read. From what I gathered Adam Silver is reincarnation of someone who invented the reborn project.

What is the reborn project: I was never actually sure as it started it was a chip implant or something like that. So how a chip was in someone different each reincarnation I have no idea.

Aside from that I loved the story. Bogart and Silver are two completely different people. Plus there’s the fact someone is killing those that Bogart are involved with.

I truly wanted to love this story but it fell flat for me. It needed more explanation for me.

Dali

Dalí Tamareia has everything—a young family and a promising career as an Ambassador in the Sol Fed Diplomatic Corps. Dalí’s path as a peacemaker seems clear, but when their loved ones are killed in a terrorist attack, grief sends the genderfluid changeling into a spiral of self-destruction.

Fragile Sol Fed balances on the brink of war with a plundering alien race. Their skills with galactic relations are desperately needed to broker a protective alliance, but in mourning, Dalí no longer cares, seeking oblivion at the bottom of a bottle, in the arms of a faceless lover, or at the end of a knife.

The New Puritan Movement is rising to power within the government, preaching strict genetic counseling and galactic isolation to ensure survival of the endangered human race. Third gender citizens like Dalí don’t fit the mold of this perfect plan, and the NPM will stop at nothing to make their vision become reality. When Dalí stumbles into a plot threatening changelings like them, a shadow organization called the Penumbra recruits them for a rescue mission full of danger, sex, and intrigue, giving Dalí purpose again.

Risky liaisons with a sexy, charismatic pirate lord could be Dalí’s undoing—and the only way to prevent another deadly act of domestic terrorism.

Review: This is the 2nd edition which has been revised and re-edited.

Moro is a bonded gladiator and believes that he has two more years before he can be free again. But, he finds out the truth… he still belongs to his previous master, the man who destroyed his world and ruined his life. But, Moro won’t go back to that monster and plans his suicide. Valier is the crown prince of the Camalian Commonwealth and is fighting off assassins when Moro stumbles across him, Moro saves his life so Valier offers Moro a way out, one night of sex where he will be infected with the sentient symbiont endemic, which will either lead to Moro’s death or his complete freedom.

Whoop, okay boys and girls this is a little gem if you love your sci-fi with fantasy and some good old space opera, along with a good dose of abuse and angst. Moro is an abused slave or a ‘bonded gladiator’. He has no control over his life and is holding on to the promise of being released in two years… he is betrayed. He was only loaned out and now his previous owner wants him back, but Moro would rather die than be placed in those hands again. Valier is a crown prince who ends up rescuing Moro, after Moro saves his life and it takes them on a new journey of discovery as they are a perfect match for each other. And secrets from Moro’s past finally emerge which place them both in danger, as long forgotten beings return and make their presence felt.

There is a hell of a lot going on in this story, but every bit is very well-connected, there is in-depth plotting and planning that go back years. Lots of scheming from characters, some twists and turns and several species involved. The story moves smoothly along and you get dragged in as you work out who is against whom and who is plotting what. You try to figure out who is a good guy and who is a spy. There are scenes that are pretty grim and gruesome, scenes that are distressing and scenes that are really freaking hot.

Now, there is one full on sex scene of m/f ,but it is actually in a kind of dream bubble thingie when Moro meets Cama (symbiont) and I just put it down to a necessary evil. The sex between Moro and Valier is very hot and has a lot of mild bondage.  I am sure that if there is a next book then they would be into more of the hard-core stuff, but because of Moro’s long term suffering Valier goes very easy on him and gentles what he really wants. This is a very intriguing storyline as more characters become involved and more species turn up, the descriptions are really well done and the world building was fascinating and we learn more and more the further into the book we delve.

Now, seriously if you are into space-opera, science fiction, fantasy, hot men, damaged men, intriguing characters and species (that can suck up worlds), angst, danger, plotting and planning, with some really hot sex, then you need to read this book because it is a little gem. P.S. Fingers crossed for more from Moro and Valier.

Review:  I have never really been a fan of anything Sci-fi, but this was a pretty damn good book if I must say so.  I hadn’t even taken a look at the blurb, so I had no clue what type of book I picked so imagine my surprise when I started reading it.  It is definitely futuristic and unique, a definite new type of story for me.

Two young boys, orphaned at a young age find themselves together and bond in a way that many do not.  They grew up together, took care of each other and protected the other with fierceness.  Then they became lovers and decided to never be without the other.  Fighting for what they thought was right, Ivo was killed.  Ten years has gone past and Rob finds out that the man he loved, the man he watched die is in fact very much alive.

Ivo or Agent 505 had no memory of anything other then what he was.  Part man and part machine, but still human.  He has been killed many times but always brought back.  His reward is a drug that basically keeps him under the Trust’s hand.  That is until a man who knows him, shows him a different side of himself… one that he, well your just going to have to read the book.

A very fascinating story and I will now have to go back and read the first book in this series.  It is a very entertaining tale and caught my attention from the very start.  This is more than just a fight for the world, but for each other and the love they once had.  I fell in love with the characters and that dog just made a hit with me.

I can see myself reading this book more than once, way to go!  I would definitely recommend this book.

Review: I really wanted to love this story as I was taken in by the blurb but alas it fell flat for me.  I felt there was too much too soon in the way of details, yet, at other times too little. It made for a frustrating read to me.

I did not get the incident about Nix getting his mark at fourteen when the story clearly stated it was not to happen until he was eighteen. There was a lot of character POV’s in this story. I felt bogged down at times trying to remember who was who. It honestly felt like several stories in one crammed into one book.

Aside from this the story was interesting as we meet four characters, Nix, Zandra, Riva and Eros not to mention Yoshio. That is a lot of characters all vying for their say and story in this book. I liked the interactions between each character though I felt at times that they tended to be drawn out and not know what they actually wanted.

I will probably reread this story at some point in the hopes it makes better sense to me than it did.

Review: Each book in the Dragon Men collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I came across Amber Kell when she published her first book awhile back and never stopped reading them. Most of the time they have their serious tones but there is quite a bit of humor mixed in with them that make them even more fascinating for me. Each story will have danger, excitement, adventure, and a touch of kink to them that will keep your attention the whole time, like it does for me.

Zeir is the king of his kingdom and is loved by all of his people. Many years ago he had lost his mate or so he thought. He grieved for the man and pretty much stayed in his dragon form. So you can imagine his surprise when a shuttle crashes onto his land and comes across his true mate. A mate that was related to the one he thought was his so many years before.

Colton is a very sweet and sexy young man who just crashed his pod. Colton’s captain was such an ass and changed his navigation causing them to crash. What Colton had never known was he could shift into his dragon form, he had assumed that since he was half dragon that he didn’t really have one. He is such a cute little golden dragon who could spit fire and ice. Only one that Zeir had ever seen once before, in a man that he had thought was his mate. However things are looking up since King Zeir is his mate.

Now I understand what Colton’s father had done, as Seltin was so young when Zeir had told him they were mates, but it was a coward’s way out. However he was scared to mate someone that wasn’t his mate. Blood calls to them, and as it turns out that it was his son who was Zeir’s true mate, things started to look up for them all.

I would have loved if this story had been a bit longer but it was a damn good story. Very fast paced and kept my attention throughout the whole story. The words just seemed to flow right off the pages and the detail was so perfect for this story. I always did love a good dragon shifter and Amber rocked it.

I love how this author doesn’t let the guys become too much alpha for their mates, making their heart bleed when they are hurt and for kicking their own asses when they hurt their mates. I have always enjoyed reading one of Amber Kell’s stories and I can see that it will not change in the future. I also loved how these men will go to the extremes to protect their mates.

Review: Each book in the Love Your Dragon collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I had not had the pleasure of reading any of Leah’s books until today, when I was given this series. I am not normally one that will start reading an author’s work that I have not heard of right off the bat. However, for some reason the series name was what caught my attention. I can honestly say that I am very glad to have started reading it.

The characters were a blast to read about, so damn feisty. I love alphas and omegas, but there is something about one who is neither. One whose life had been thrown for a loop when they were younger. As with Tyrus, who had lost his family at a young age, he is the one that calls to me.

Tyrus and his friends were sent to Earth to bring back the heirs to the throne. He and his friends had not expected the men to be so damn stubborn and feisty that is for sure. His little mate is trouble with a capital T. He has trust issues that might just cost him Tyrus. With Dante being the top suspect in the kidnapping of their team mate, he is in a bit of a pickle. Tyrus knows that with his past, the loss of his mate would tear him apart, he just needs the ass to see that.

Dante doesn’t trust anyone but his brothers. He also doesn’t like to be bossed around and will kick anyone’s ass who tries. However his next stupid move might just cost him it all. Then the doctor tells them the next shocker.

I enjoyed reading this story and cannot wait to get my hands on the next book. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. There is a bit of confusion in this book, as with the others though. It can be just a bit hard to follow with the mixture of characters and keeping them apart. Also there are questions that the story doesn’t answer, but it doesn’t really take away from the story itself for me.

I had a blast reading it and can’t wait to read the next book.

Blurb: The course of true love never did run smooth. Ryan is settling into his role as a new father and the royal consort of Mikos, the fierce and handsome Prince of Tygeria. He’s still deeply in love and happy—most of the time. But the former Alliance colonel is a bit restless, and even though he loves his child and his mate, he needs a bit more to occupy his time. Mikos thinks giving him more babies to care for will help, but Ryan comes up with a different idea for some diversion and physical challenge by forming his own team for the dangerous Arena Games.

Meanwhile, Haggoz and Kevin are deeply involved in a much more serious game of their own. The king warned Haggoz that punishing his own mate and holding him prisoner would be nearly impossible, but Haggoz can’t bear to be parted from him. Locked in a seemingly endless war between his love for the former marine and his duty to his king, Haggoz is struggling to survive.

Just when it seems that they’re hopelessly deadlocked, Mikos and Haggoz go on what should be a routine mission against an ARes training facility on a distant moon. When disaster strikes and word gets back to Ryan that Mikos and Haggoz are both in terrible danger, he embarks on a desperate mission to save them and bring them safely home. Ryan finds an unlikely ally in Kevin to help him save the men and discover that even though the course may be rocky, true love will always find its way.

Review: Each book in the Mate of the Tyger Prince collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Ryan loves what he is and his life, however he seems to be missing something. Mikos thinks giving him more babies will fix that, but Ryan has other ideas. It is not what you’re thinking, so get your minds out of the gutters. Haggoz and Kevin are in some big trouble. Haggoz is keeping his mate prisoner and is still on the punishing him part. Too bad he can’t seem to stop having sex with the man. He is being torn in two. Then they are sent on a mission that turns bad, it is up to Ryan to save their asses.

I didn’t much care for the jump between all of the guys. Haggor is a total ass, but he will need both his mate and Ryan if he wants to survive what is going on. Here Ryan is getting depressed and needs to make a plan to fix it. What does one expect after having a baby? Ryan wants to play in the war games, yet his mate has other ideas. It would seem that he has forgotten where his mate has come from and who he is. Never get in the way of a marine. Then you have a man who keeps his mate locked up but can’t stay away from him. I just don’t get it.

I don’t really care for books that are longer. It just seems to drag stuff out that is boring to me. Don’t get me wrong this book rocks, but it didn’t keep my attention like it should have. I just don’t care for multiple characters having trouble in one book. I did like to hear about Mikos and Ryan, but I was hoping that this would just focus on Haggoz and Kevin. Other than my problems with it, this book did exactly what it was supposed to. It entertained me for most parts. I liked how Ryan and Kevin were the ones to get their mates out of trouble. I felt bad for Kevin though.

Now the story was pretty damn good, but it didn’t set off any explosions for me. It was a fun read but one that I could have done without. My attention was not caught like it should have which was a bit disappointing in the end. I hope that the next book comes off a bit better to me.

No man in the galaxy inspires more fear than Korbin, the Admiral of the Black. His life as leader of the biggest pirate band in space leaves little room for trust, so when Korbin’s second-in-command disappears without a trace, he suspects the worst.

Zain Strand has left his life as a sex slave behind and risen within the pirate ranks. He doesn’t expect Korbin’s arrival, doesn’t want Korbin’s help . . . but Korbin gives Zain no choice.

Posing as master and slave to infiltrate a slave auction, Korbin and Zain embark on a journey of lust that rapidly reveals their deeper feelings. When Zain’s old master discovers their ruse, Korbin must do everything in his power to save both their lives and their newfound love.

Review: This is the second book in Dark Space.

I have to say I loved the entire book. It was great to see how Brady works through things throughout. Then Cam and Brady’s connection is restored only to discover it’s not quite right.

It was mind-boggling how well and deep this story takes the reader into understanding how the mind works in regards to relationships, tense situations, etc. I was impressed by how well the story flowed smoothly and the details throughout.

Intense, yet powerful. This book packs quite a punch. It keeps you reading until the very end.

The only thing I found I did not like was the cliffhanger at the end, as I have not heard anything about a third book. I certainly hope there will be though, if not for anything else to answer questions that were unanswered.

by

Christine d’Abo

When bounty hunter Gar Stitt is given a simple locate-and-retrieve mission, he’s convinced it’s a waste of his skills. His success rate is legendary, after all, and Captain Faolan Wolf isn’t hard to find. He’s the most notorious pirate in the galaxy, and when he shows up planetside to take his pleasures, he’s far from subtle.

Faolan never expected a hot but tightly wound hunter to walk into his private party and try to apprehend him single-handedly. And when an unexpected betrayal forces them to work together, Faolan’s even more surprised to find himself drawn to Gar personally—especially since neither of them do personal.

Gar had intended to put Faolan in prison. Instead he finds his solitary existence shaken by his desire for the pirate. And when the bounty hunter becomes the hunted, he must put his faith in Faolan and his pirate crew, or run the risk of ending up dead.

Review: This the third book in The Secret Art of Failure series. In this installment, we find Vanni giving a lecture about sage and deciding to become one himself. Kourt has finally accepted his feelings for Vanni. I do have to say though I enjoyed this series it is very confusing at times and left me feeling lost.

That is not to say it was not good though. There is a lot of complexity to this series. So I would suggest you read it from the beginning of the series as some things will confuse you if you pick another book in the series without reading the first. I was glad to see that some things that confused me in book one and two were answered in this one.
Very well written book that draws you into a mysterious and

fascinating world. Full of drama, mystery and two men coming together. As well as twists that leave you spellbound.

Good read.

Review: Jones is part of a team in ENAD, Enforced Necessary Arms Division. He has been enhanced for strength, speed and anything else to help him in his missions. He has been out of the loop for years due to not completing the last mission his team was sent on. He has finally been called back into service only to discover that the man he was once in love with is the leader of the team.

This division was created to do the dirty work of the higher-ups wanting to keep their hands clean in my opinion. Carver seemed cold at first, though I could understand to a point as he’s been modified as well and deemed one of the best. Intense, gritty scenes leave you holding your breath for the outcome.

Although I’m not used to this type of story per se I found it intriguing and fascinating. This story keeps your attention from the beginning. I was impressed with the details of the technology in the story. Well written.

Great read.

Blurb: Magic never leads to happiness.

Nicky walked out of the Wild into the civilized world and within a few years, he carved out a territory with a selected pack of loyal gang members. He had a secret to keep that not only could affect his hard won territory but also his very existence. Secrets are always found out, especially when that secret involves magic.

Magic was the backbone of the Miradryl Empire; wherever magic can be found the Empire moves to take it as its own. Those who can wield that power are the chosen and the privileged few.

King Tiger, Battle Mage Arthur Magnus is searching for a special kind of battery, a Latent – a person who could control energy. The discovery of a new powerful source leads him to this backwater world. His intention was to force a union between them but then the magic decided to bond them forever.

Nicky and Magnus found themselves mage mated, not only was their magic intertwined but now their lives were as well. Their hearts were another matter.

Warning: Some scenes of bloody violence and of forced sex/rape, and an arrogant King Tiger and a spitting snarling Nicholas with very sharp claws.

Review: Nicholas (aka Nicky & Neko) carved himself a place in civil society after he emerged from the Wild, the leader of a small gang the Skullz that is swallowed by their big brother the RIPpers. But, even they can’t keep Nicky safe when his secret abilities are leaked and the Empire comes for him. The Miradryl Empire has the monopoly on magic and will do anything to get it, their King Tigers are feared for their devastating power but they go through batteries (Latent’s) fast and Nicky is just the battery they need to keep their King Tiger Magnus happy. Magnus and Nicky clash but their bond is solid, now all Nicky needs to do is keep both of them alive.

Whoop! Now for those who adore a slightly dark but fun space opera type story this is the best, Nicky is from the Wild and after an incident he heads for civilization and carves his way into a position of slight power with his blades and a touch of magic, but it isn’t long before he falls under the watchful eyes of Grimm and the RIPpers. After an uneasy truce between the two becomes a merging, it isn’t long before Nicky finds himself betrayed to the Empire and in an impossible position, he can’t see any way out of. Magnus, King Tiger, demands Nicky as his Latent and Nicky discovers his problems have only just begun as Magnus makes demands on Nicky and Nicky tries to fight what is expected of him.

Hmmm, I have to say that I love these types of stories where it has that edge of violence and danger and a reluctant love develops from the worst of starts. Where violence and sex clash but never seems to quite break the boundaries and where a thread of humor never seems far away. The storyline is new and interesting blending science fiction with magic together but with violence and characters with attitude. While some people may find some parts harsh, I think Derekica Snake has done a good job of getting across a lot of the circumstances surrounding the incidents and Nicky’s matter of fact attitude helps to mitigate what could be harrowing experiences.

As we read further into the book, we begin to understand why Magnus is such an arrogant ass and yeah he does manage to grow on you, Nicky is a brilliant character but then I have always loved a psycho. Now the actual world building is great, we learn a lot about Nicky, his background, and the world he lives on, not much is left out so we understand the man he is and the world that molded him. As we learn more about the Empire the sorrier you feel for Magnus and you can’t help but hope that Magnus will blow them up accidentally on purpose while Nicky slashes them to pieces. Now the storyline and plot were perfect in my eyes but this story is self-published and there were a few editing errors but they didn’t really take away my enjoyment of the story and to be honest I can’t wait for Powerlines: Toy Tiger.

So I recommend this to those who love space opera, science fiction with a touch of magic, arrogant bastard characters, vindictive humorous characters, a great storyline with a hint of dark threaded with humor, a relationship that could easily be doomed or will soar to heights of brilliance and a very interesting ending.

InDiscretion_500x750About In Discretion:

Thanson Nez thought his career as a Discretionary would take him to the stars, not strand him on a space station at the ass-end of the Empire. Thanks to his last client, he’s carrying a secret he can’t get rid of fast enough, but his oath to the guild means a swift, painful death if he shares it. Already desperate for help, he runs into yet more trouble: his ex, and an explosion that paralyzes the station moments after their uncomfortable reunion.
.
Kazra Ferdow, Station 43’s communications officer, is almost as blindsided by the return of his first love as he is by the sudden loss of power and life support. The station is a floating graveyard in the making, and something is turning its inhabitants into savage killers. Fighting human monsters and damaged tech, Kazra and Thanson must put aside their past long enough to  try to save everyone.

.

The more light they shine into dark corners, the more Thanson realizes how many people might die for the secrets locked in his head—and what he’s willing to sacrifice to make sure Kazra isn’t one of them.

Review: Although this story is part of a series it can be read as a stand-alone. Thanson left his old life behind when he became a Discretionary, an elite companion, but he always had one regret. When Thanson becomes stranded on a space station in the far reaches of the Empire he comes face to face with that regret. Kazra is the communications officer of Station 43 and is shocked when he comes face to face with his first love again, but it soon emerges that his ex-lover brings problems with him and Kazra and Thanson will have to put the past aside to save the Station and the humans who are turning into mindless monsters.
.
This is a great little science-fiction novella that could easily have been made into a full length novel. Thanson is a man who is a Discretionary, a high caliber companion who will never reveal the secrets he learns except to his Cohort (Guild) Head of House. Leaving his last contract abruptly Thanson must share his secret, but cut off from those who can assist and with a virus turning the stations inhabitants into violent monsters Thanson has to rely on the man he left behind years before. Kazra has found himself stuck with his assignment on Station 43 and when Thanson comes waltzing back into his life it brings back memories he had locked away. With someone after Thanson to ensure secrets don’t spread and the station dead in space, Kazra begrudgingly helps Thanson.
.
I really loved the concept of this storyline and was fascinated by the characters and their past together. Kazra is still bitter over being left behind and Thanson only ever had one regret… leaving Kazra behind. While there is tension between the two, it never takes away from the dire circumstances that they find themselves in, the race against time to get help and to avoid the one who is hunting them. We are given flashes into their past together and the love that they had, it is a love that is still lingering but the anger is still bitingly strong. It isn’t an easy reconciliation and following them through the station you wonder if the past can ever be overcome.
.
Now, while I find the concept of a Discretionary intriguing and the plot to shut him up before he could talk interesting, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was dropped in the middle of the story, in the middle of a story! We had the flashes to the past with Kazra and Thanson and their relationship, then we had the Imperial Minister wanting Thanson permanently silenced and then we have the virus outbreak and the sabotage of the space station, so while everything was connected it also wasn’t, more circumstances leading to a large conspiracy and devastation while uncovering a heinous plot. So while a great story, I felt like I had missed a lot of what was going on, like I got a snatch of a much larger story.
.
I recommend this if you love science fiction, running for you life in a space station, foiling a deadly plot, reunited lovers working through the past and a very happy ending where the past is put to bed.

His first husband died over a century ago, and, since then, he’s been fighting his battles alone. This next battle may be more than he bargained for, as he finds himself head-to-head and body-to-body with a promising, but troubled human student.

With his razor-sharp mind and native genius for theoretical mathematics, he convinces badass Master Kourt to take him on as a student. He wants to learn. Really, he does. But he can’t help testing all of his teacher’s boundaries.

Review: This is perhaps the most challenging book I’ve read on account to understanding terms and writing a review that does it justice. The blurb might seem easy as pie, but trust me this is a book that requires all of your attention, all of your imagination, and a great deal of general understanding of things. Trying to see this book and make sense of it with something that you’ve felt, lived, or seen before in your life, while doable, it’s quite difficult to do.

From my understanding, you must read the Guide to Survival series in order to comprehend a bit about Kourt’s previous life with his lover and the word/worlds in which he travels and exists.
As for this book, my comprehension of it comes down to the point that Servitors are in touch with their inner “chi” aka telsma. Others, who couldn’t reach the telsma, went on research and sources, reading and proofing every truth in life, and there are the ones in between. These people live their life in constant training and discipline in order to be true servitors of the greater good.

Adjusting this with our own reality, it makes me think of university nerds versus military guys. Books vs. activity, knowing vs. doing etc.

Vanni is a special human striving to be a Servitor. He can analyze and mathematically see truths. I can’t even say it in words now, but he is unique when it comes to one talent he has, that of Speech, that translates on Vanni being able to do all sorts of things, from talking with every creature he comes in contact with (even trees for crying out loud) to see the truth behind those words.
The universities tried to manipulate him into making a vow with a student so that he could pass that knowledge, but being not a Master yet he couldn’t make the false vow, hence it broke his own vow with his own college. Of course the masters didn’t want to take responsibility for being idiots and downright stupid, so they out-casted him, resulting to Vanni being taken by yet another extraordinary Master who is himself a bit of an outcast, or rebel as he claims. However, this new Master will challenge all of Vanni’s learning and end-up breaking everything in order to rebuild him from scratch the proper way of a Servitor.

I really, really am having trouble saying a summary of this book with my own words. Half of the book I had no idea what on earth was going on and that doesn’t help. Honestly, I only started making sense of some things from 50% onward. End result?

I liked the characters. I want more of them. I’m guessing I’ll have more of them when book #2 comes out.
Kourt was weird; he’s not human, but he can take the shape of one. His personality is all over the place and nowhere. He is so multi-dimensional I can’t begin to count. He’s still very charming in his complex, very alluring as a character. As I said, I want more and in the end, I felt as if this book ended right about the time I started making sense and understanding what’s going on.

Same goes with Vanni with the difference that I have a better image of him in my head. I can actually picture Vanni and say he’s one hot guy, though quite stupid in his genius. Ah! That’s the best description I have for him. He’s like this super talented, genius kid, that remains naïve as a kid. One moment you see him making leaps in learning, the next he’s having quite the trouble understanding simple things like emotion and letting go. Vanni also suffers for a great deal of brainwashing due to his training with Masters that were incapable to train him properly, therefore all his learning is by half.

The sex part here, surprise-surprise, confused and frustrated the heck out of me. Hot as it was, it was still in the same level of what-the-heck-is-going-on with the rest of the story and plot.

The only thing I can add to this review at this point is that this is the first book that was such a hardship reading it, yet I never wanted to stop and mostly when the end came, I got pissed because it ended. I feel like a masochist that can’t have enough of its punishment, because said punishment is so freaking good.
