Blurb: When life throws you a curve ball, you have to deal with it as well as you can.

When Rabbit arrived in Gillham, he was only trying to get away from his ex-boyfriend. He never expected to find a pack, a family, but he feels at home in Gillham. Finding his mate makes that feeling even stronger, at least until he realizes Elton isn’t only his mate, but also Samuel’s.

Elton’s in Gillham to visit his brother when he ends up in the middle of a spat for him. He might not know a lot about shifters and mates, but he does know that one human guy having two shifter mates isn’t normal.

Samuel is ready to fight for Elton, and really, it shouldn’t take much with how tiny Rabbit is. But Rabbit reveals himself to be stronger and more stubborn than Samuel had thought, and when Elton gives them an ultimatum, they have to learn to work together—or be without their mate.

They know a three-way mating is possible, but it doesn’t make it easy. Rabbit, Elton, and Samuel all have their own insecurities and problems. Will they manage to work around them and be happy together, or will the stress of having to share a mate make their relationship implode?

Review:  Each book in the Gillham Pack collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. This series is also connected to the Whitedell Pride and Council Enforcers collection.

There is nothing better than a good paranormal romance with two gorgeous men involved.  I think what I love most about this series and the ones they are connected with is that even though they are tough shifters or nix, they do have a soft spot for those around them.  Also the fact that it isn’t just one or two kinds of shifters, you get a wild mixture which makes it more fascinating.  Then you add in nix’s and it is going to get wild.

A house cat shifter with a ducks name and nicknamed Rabbit.  Rabbit lived on the streets as a normal black cat that is until Ms. White picks him up as a stray.  Then she wants to neuter his ass and oh hell no, he is not going to let it happen.  Then shifters come to his rescue and lets just face it, Rabbit is an cat with an attitude.  Guess he is just like a normal cat.  Then in comes his mate, or should I say two mates with a twist.  It seems like Rabbit and Samuel are mated to Elton, but not to each other.  Now is that a tongue twister or not.

I love the way Catherine puts together a story that not only draws you in but keeps you entertained as well. They have a serious tone to them, but there is quite a bit of humor floating around.  I do get a kick out of the whole thing.  They are not long size novels, but just the right size for me to really enjoy. They have so much depth and details that if will feel like you are right there with them. I love that there is even the hint of danger surrounding them sometimes. Trust me that this is one series that you will enjoy quite a bit. I loved it and cannot wait for the next book to come out.

Blurb: Words damage more than just feelings as Carrington hunts feral books menacing the city.

When a ferocious book attacks Carrington at his own birthday party, he believes it’s an isolated incident. But similar books soon pop up all over town, menacing innocent people with harsh bits of poetry and blank verse that deliver damaging physical blows. It’s a frustrating case with too many variables and not enough answers, and the stakes go up with each attack.

With the help of his misfit squad mates at the 77th and the public library’s Rare Books Department, the missing pieces decrease but not Carrington’s vexations. His commanding officer rakes him over the coals at the beginning of every shift. His police partner has lost patience with what she sees as his delusional relationship choices and his inability to pick the right man in a vast field of two. City Hall demands that the books be stopped immediately. It’s enough to put a nutritionally challenged vampire off his skim blood.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: The Carr, a vampire who survives on skim blood, is challenged when it comes to a case involving books whose words actually hurt people. I have never read a book quite like this before so I found it fascinating. I could have done without his partners Amanda’s love interest, another female though.

Carr is fascinated by someone through most of the book then suddenly is interested in the consultant. I didn’t buy this relationship as most of it took place at the end and felt forced and rushed to me. However it was great to read.

The overall feel of the story is one of excitement as each element adds to the stories conclusion.

Great read.

It isn’t smart, falling for his best friend and fellow SEAL, but ten years with Ben has forged a bond so intimate Maddox can’t ignore it. He needs Ben by his side forever—heart and soul.

Until their next mission throws Ben and Maddox closer together than ever before, with only each other to depend on.

Now, in the lonely, desperate hours awaiting rescue, the real challenge—confronting themselves, their future and their desires—begins. Man to man, friend to friend, lover to lover.

Review: On Point is the story of the infamous duo Maddox and Ben. We’ve heard about Maddox and Ben in Apollo’s book and we know all about Maddox’s quiet pining for his best friend and all about Ben’s whorish ways. On Point lets us learn the WHY of Ben’s behavior, which I greatly appreciated, even though I wanted to whack the bastard across the head a few times.

Ben and Maddox are SEALS who have served together and have been best friends since the beginning of their careers. Their friendship and a constant significant other in their lives prevented the two from acknowledging the attraction and chemistry between them, but that all changes after Ben moves in with Maddox following his divorce. The two are so different from each other, I still can’t wrap my head around them as a couple (but I’m slowly getting there).

Ben’s career as a SEAL is the thing he’s most passionate about in life, and he lives for the adrenaline he gets when on missions. Ben’s father and his stepmother both support Ben unconditionally and I loved them as secondary characters; Ben has many mommy issues however, and we learn that his mother leaving has Ben questioning anyone’s commitment. Ben is a player and a manwhore who spends his free time in clubs chasing new men he can fuck.

Maddox is a soft-hearted man who’s career as a SEAL doesn’t match his dreams and hopes in life. His family cut ties with Maddox the day they found him kissing his boyfriend when Maddox was just 17 years old. In a desperate attempt to make his father proud, he joined the Navy, but he soon learned that his family’s love is conditional. Maddox doesn’t hate his job, and he definitely loves being at Ben’s side, but Maddox is not happy and yearns for a change. Maddox dreams about opening a bakery, dreams about Ben as more than a friend, he just dreams ….until the last mission they go on goes wrong, and Maddox realizes that life is too short and decides to make his dreams a reality.

Being trapped together when their mission goes wrong, both Maddox and Ben are hurt, but Maddox is by far worse. Cracked ribs and a dislocated shoulder doesn’t stop Ben from carrying his best friend to safety, and the following weeks of recovery make Ben realize he doesn’t even want to imagine a life where Maddox is not by his side. What follows is an awkward courtship dance that was painful to watch in how out of character it was for Ben (but sweet and entertaining just the same).

On point is a great friends-to-lovers story that’s going to delight the readers who love that trope. This book is angsty and gritty for the most part, but Maddox and Ben get their HEA, so hang in there. I can’t wait for the next book in this wonderful series!

Blurb: Rand O’Malley dreams of superstardom. He hopes to one day sing the blues like a god. Moving to New York City and hiring a new manager are steps to make his dreams a reality. But nothing moves as fast as Rand would like, and everyone has opinions, for example that he should keep certain pieces of himself quiet if he plans on making it in the Big Apple. Like his bisexuality.

Will Sanders is a gifted musician who dazzles Rand with his ability to coax gorgeous notes from an electric guitar one moment and play the piano like a professional the next. He’s a geek, but Rand isn’t concerned about Will’s pressed exterior clashing with his tattoos. His focus is music. Yet there’s something about Will that makes Rand think there’s much more to the quiet college student than he lets on. As Rand’s dreams begin to materialize, he’s forced to reconsider his priorities and find his own kind of truth. One that might include Will.

Review: A Kind of Truth is the first in Lane Hayes’ A Kind Of series. Interestingly enough, this is a book that I had trouble enjoying when I first read it – only rating it a 3.5/5 and I was annoyed at too much “telling”, not enough action and slow plot development. Yet with the audio I absolutely fell in love with the story and the characters and definitely deserves a 5/5. What can I say? Sometimes there are some books that read better as audios rather than off the page and for me this is a perfect example.

This is the story of rock musician, Rand, who like many before him has dreams of fame and fortune in New York. He and his band play gigs and are just doing what they need to in order to find fame – and that includes Rand having to hide the fact that he is bisexual. In need of a guitar teacher, he meets college student Will, who tutors guitar on the side to make extra money. Will’s in debt and will do whatever it takes to get rid of his student loans and whatnot. Quickly, it’s obvious that Will is keeping all kinds of secrets. It’s almost as if this book is essentially an unravelling of Will. The story is generally a very sweet romance, and starts off rather light hearted and at about the halfway point there is a major shift to a more serious frame of mind.

The story is totally from the POV of Rand – our wannabe rocker. Seth Clayton, the narrator, lends the perfect amount of desperation and determination and vulnerability to the character. Unlike when I read the story where I found it difficult to connect with Rand, I completely fell in love with him as much as I completely fell in love with Wil. Will is a positively wonderful character and one that many of us, including myself, could relate to. Will is a fantastic guy and he has so many hidden layers – him wanting to give up everything to go back into the closet for his family was both frustrating and made me upset on Rand’s behalf.

Their romance is beautiful and sweet and they work hard to be together.

Blurb: Zeke Gulden is a ruthless Wall Street exec. His hard-edged, no-nonsense attitude has served him well in the cutthroat business world, but less so in his personal life. When he finds out his ex-boyfriend cheated on him with a coworker, Zeke can’t let go until he finds a way to get even. However, his meddlesome father has other ideas. The new hire at the family-owned bagel store is somewhat colorful, but his dad is sure he’s the perfect man for Zeke.

Benny Ruggieri is a fiercely proud New Yorker who dreams of making it big as a costume designer in the theater. In the meantime, he’s working two part-time jobs in the food biz. When his new boss sets him up with his successful son, Benny has zero expectations. If nothing else, he figures he can entertain himself by making the uptight businessman squirm. Instead, the two become unlikely friends with an inexplicable attraction they can’t ignore. Benny might be the one to help Zeke set aside his quest for revenge, if he’s willing to let go and forgive what he can’t forget and give in to an unexpected kind of romance.

Review: This is book 2 in Lane Hayes’ A Kind of Stories series. However, this can be treated as a standalone book. Other than an appearance from the couple from book 1, A Kind of Truth, there is no ongoing plot to worry about. I have to say that I find it quite remarkable that I have felt a lot more happiness, joy and romance from the audio of this series than I have from reading the ebook.

This is a totally fun book and really embraces the old saying “opposites attract” because that is exactly what Zeke (he hates being called Ezekiel) and Benny are. Zeke is a well to do Wall Street exec that is also just a tad snobbish. Which is a bit odd since his father and brothers, who run the family bakery, are the most ordinary type people that you could come across. Benny on the other hand is a blue-haired ball of energy who takes life in his stride. And with that all said, both characters do feature in book 1, sort of. One MC, Benny, appears in book 1, Zeke, was mentioned multiple times by his father in book 1.

These guys also have completely different family lives. While Benny works for Zeke’s father, George, on the side, his primary job is to work for his own family. They are Italian-Catholic and to me I saw my own family in that, we may not be New Yorkers but there is that unspoken camaraderie that comes along with coming from an Italian family that immigrated out of Italy. Benny is pretty damn lucky where his family is concerned.

However, Zeke is not quite so lucky. His father was a difficult man to live with after he came out as gay and that is seen in the still mending relationship between father and son. I think it is also interesting how his mother is referred to as “gone”, because she isn’t dead. I assume that she has some form of dementia although it was never stated, and neither was that bit of information crucial to the outcome of the story. It’s quickly evident though, he is just what Zeke needs to loosen up and to make Zeke realize that he has bloody horrible taste in men.

I absolutely adored this audio. Once again, Seth Clayton delivers an absolutely spot on performance for Benny and Zeke. Benny most especially is a very relatable character, although Zeke’s troubles with his ex is also, unfortunately, all too easy to relate to. Seth Clayton totally nails all the emotions and I just didn’t want to stop listening.

Blurb: Tucker Wilde’s life is in a tailspin. Twenty-four hours ago, he was one of the top second basemen in the all-shifter professional baseball league. Now, he’s lost his starting spot to a rookie, been dumped by his girlfriend, and had a night of explosive passion with a man—a teammate at that. He can’t get Dixon out of his mind—even though Tucker still believes himself to be straight. With his career in jeopardy, he’s unsure where to turn or how to fix the mess.

Review: I read a tonne of books and so I admit, sheepishly, that there are a lot of series which I completely forget about existing until I get flagged that the next book is out. I suppose you can call me a voracious reader, although I probably only write reviews for 10% of what I consume – I really don’t have that much time. Shifter Hardball is one of those series, but don’t take that to mean that it’s an unforgettable series. No, instead just understand two things 1) I got a horrid memory and 2) there clearly isn’t enough room for me to remember all the books I read.

With those pleasantries out the way, let me tell you this, once I remembered about the series and what it was – I was instantly desperate to read the next installment. Let’s face, there are many of us who will be instantly drawn to this series because 1) there are shifters – sexy alpha shifters, and 2) these sexy shifter play a damn good game of baseball. I admit, I did a quick reread of the first two books, but honestly I don’t believe that it is essential to read the previous books but I highly recommend doing so if you haven’t. We get a number of quick glimpses at our two previous couples which could potentially be a tad confusing.

Tucker Wilde is one of the stars on his baseball team in his position as the second baseman. However, his game has been off recently and he loses his top position to one of the rookies. To top that off, he also breaks up with his girlfriend, who he really wasn’t completely into to be perfectly honest. And this is where his life begins to change.

Dixon Foxx has been micromanaged into a baseball career by his father. He’s shy but is a total kick arse when it comes to the sport. The only thing keeping him in the game is his stubbornness, despite the fact he no longer enjoys the game, and his infatuation for Ticker. Dixon has been crushing on Tucker since they first met, just Tucker doesn’t realize it. But as I said, things are changing for Tucker, and that means that things are also changing for Dixon.

Tucker and Dixon discover new facets of their evolving relationship, and Dixon discovers just where his passion for baseball now lies (and is not dependent on his love for Tucker). Super sexy. Super sweet. Lots of chemistry ready to explode. Seriously, how can you go wrong with a story about shifters who play baseball?? What I also like about this series is that the shifter aspect is actually secondary to the baseball – as opposed to the other way around, which is probably more common. It makes for a very interesting tale and makes me want more from the series!!

Pete Griflow is the last person anyone would suspect of being a porn star. He’s quiet, gawky, and can’t even talk to guys without turning red. But on camera, he’s a different person. In the porn world, he’s Jaden Prime, a coquettish power bottom who’s been tantalizing fans for over a year now.

Pete is in a rut, though, and he knows it. And what’s worse, his boss knows it. If he can’t reignite his passion for the biz, he’s going to have trouble paying his none-too-cheap college tuition.

When Pete is given the opportunity to star in a huge summer production, sparks fly between him and his costar, Kyle Darko. Kyle is Pete’s opposite: he’s daring, achingly sexy, and in love with the sex industry. Their chemistry is palpable on and off screen, but dating on a porn set is tricky. Even pros struggle to separate fantasy from reality, especially with a script dictating their seduction. But what’s building between them can’t be ignored, and it’s so much more than getting some “action.”

Against his better judgment Perry offers Mas a job and a place to live, but it turns out he should have listened to his instincts. The shop is already financially on the brink, and Mas’s flirting makes him feel things he’s never felt for a man. Yet Mas seems convinced they can make a go of it—in the shop, and together. That is, until Mas’s past starts to catch up with him…

Warning: Contains an eccentric bumbling Englishman, a gobby drama queen, fantastic retro clothing, scary fairies, exes springing out of the woodwork, and a well-aimed glass of bubbly. Written in brilliantly British English.

Morgan Capell’s life is falling apart by small degrees—his father’s dead, his boyfriend dumped him, and his mother’s in the grip of dementia. His state of mind isn’t helped by his all-too-real recurring nightmare of the wreck of the Troilus, a two-hundred-year-old ship he’s been dreaming about since his teenage years.

The story of the Troilus is interwoven with the Capell family history. When amateur historian Dominic Watson inveigles himself into seeing the ship’s timbers which make up part of Morgan’s home, they form a tentative but prickly friendship that keeps threatening to spark into something more romantic.

Unexpectedly, Dominic discovers that one of the Troilus’s midshipman was rescued but subsequently might have been murdered, and persuades Morgan to help him establish the truth. But the more they dig, the more vivid Morgan’s nightmares become, until he’s convinced he’s showing the first signs of dementia. It takes as much patience as Dominic possesses—and a fortuitous discovery in a loft—to bring light out of the darkness.

by

R.J. Scott & V.L. Locey

Can Tennant show Jared that age is just a number, and that love is all that matters?

The Rowe Brothers are famous hockey hotshots, but as the youngest of the trio, Tennant has always had to play against his brothers’ reputations. To get out of their shadows, and against their advice, he accepts a trade to the Harrisburg Railers, where he runs into Jared Madsen. Mads is an old family friend and his brother’s one-time teammate. Mads is Tennant’s new coach. And Mads is the sexiest thing he’s ever laid eyes on.

Jared Madsen’s hockey career was cut short by a fault in his heart, but coaching keeps him close to the game. When Ten is traded to the team, his carefully organized world is thrown into chaos. Nine years his junior and his best friend’s brother, he knows Ten is strictly off-limits, but as soon as he sees Ten’s moves, on and off the ice, he knows that his heart could get him into trouble again.

Drew Nolan is a loud-and-proud mystery writer with a brutal case of writer’s block. He needs practical experience with the Baltimore police beat to get his latest manuscript to his publisher on time. When he wins a ride-along at a writer’s conference, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot… until he meets his partner.

Closeted cop Josh de Oliveira lost his family, his partner, and the respect of his unit—all for doing the right thing. Recently busted back down to patrol, he’s relieved to get a cushy assignment at the Author’s Police Institute where he’ll take one lucky writer on a ride-along. Unfortunately, his author looks like he belongs in the backseat of Josh’s squad car—long, ginger dreadlocks, piercings, and an “I would bottom you so hard” T-shirt. But there’s something about Drew Josh is having a hard time resisting.

It’s going to be a long night and one hell of a ride as opposites attract and realize they share a lot in common beneath the surface. As animosity becomes desire, they realize they can help each other out—in more ways than one.

States of Love: Stories of romance that span every corner of the United States.
