Blurb: Beau Bissonet and Tollison Cruz are back, along with Bruce, Auggie, and now Bastien, Tollison’s ex-partner. From the initial spark between them in Zurich, Bruce and Bastien’s attraction has flared, and Bastien has come to the Big Easy to explore what lies ahead for them.

It’s Mardi Gras, and New Orleans is alive and festive, teeming with excited tourists and locals alike. The first few parades go off without a hitch. And then a man is targeted, shot, and killed right in the middle of a crowded street. Auggie and Bruce are called in to investigate, but before they even get started, more deaths occur, one at each of the next two parades. Auggie realizes he’s dealing with a serial killer and jumps into action.

Beau and Tollison join the investigation and stumble upon some similarities in the murders that are too strong to ignore. But before they can unravel the perpetrator’s motives and get ahead of him, he fires another shot that affects the tightly knit group of friends in a way none of them could have ever imagined. Together they must all come up with a plan to stop the killing and serve justice in the process.

Review: Book three in the Bissonet & Cruz Investigations draws the reader into unresolved issues between Tollison and Bastien as well as Bruce and Beau. On top of that there is a killer targeting gay men at Mardi Gras parades.

The suspense and drama are a match made in heaven in this story. The unresolved issues between the four men start taking its toll on them. Even though there is anger and resentment at times I was glad they all talked at least. I really liked Bruce and Bastien as a couple. Even with Bruce’ uncertainty about the relationship both men deserved happiness after their failed previous relationships.

The mystery aspect of the book was good. I liked the way the investigation was handled and every lead looked into thoroughly. Auggie, Tollison and Bruce work well together throughout the investigation and have each other’s back.

This is a fantastic addition to the series. I highly recommend it.

Blurb: A fight to the death against his former master turns into a chance for Rafael, an assassin denied the immortality he lived to achieve, to learn the shocking truth about the fate he was spared.

Rafael wanted nothing more than to serve his immortal master, Xian, a High One of Clare, who taught him from an early age how to be an assassin. But after failing the final test, Rafael was turned out into the Lower City, abandoned by the one person he thought he could count on.

Years of hatred and thoughts of revenge have fueled Rafael’s quest for vengeance, but when the time comes to strike at Xian, he hesitates and is taken prisoner. Rafael expects to die, either at Xian’s hand or at the hand of Myrtea, his sadistic mistress.

Instead Xian heals him, spares him a brutal interrogation and tells him the dark truth driving the ruthlessness of the High Ones—the source of their immortality is spent. Soon the city will devolve into chaos as High Ones battle one another and the rebelling denizens of the Lower City for power and resources. Xian wants to spare Rafael that pain, just as he spared him the pain of becoming a High One a decade earlier.

Their only chance for survival is to escape Clare before civil war breaks out. Even if they make it out of the city, though, there’s no guarantee that Xian will live through the agonizing process of becoming human again. The only ones they can rely on are each other…if Rafael can bring himself to once again trust his former master, the only man he’s ever loved.

Reader Advisory: This book contains mentions of blood-drinking, blood magic, blood-play, knife-play, addiction and withdrawal, as well as flogging and whipping. This book also refers to pain and blood-play as coping mechanisms.

Review: Rafeal has been working toward one goal: becoming a high one. He is devastated to learn he failed the final test and even more so when his master and the man he looked up to, Xian, casts him out. He falls back into the one thing he was good at, an assassin.

Revenge motivated Rafeal meets Xian again and instead of killing him is taken prisoner. Xian finally explains his reasons for failing him and also informs him of the dark secrets of the high ones. Intent on escaping the battle coming between the high ones and the lowers Xian and Rafeal plan to leave.

This book is full of great scenes both suspenseful and thoughtful. I loved how the story played out. It was an amazing journey. Xian and Rafeal, despite the rough beginning once they found each other again, were great together in their bid to survive.

Highly recommended.

This was a great story but also horrifying at what was done to Quay. My heart broke for Quay’s suffering silently as he watched his perfect brother take his place. At the same time he sse’s Flessar, an outcast like him as attractive. It is forbidden for them to be together though. The whole story was both magical yet sad. It was a great mix.

Tris takes Colton on the other side of the wall and shows him things he’s never seen before. I loved how this story showed the differences between the two men and places. It was a perfect blend to keep the reader interested.

I have to say I normally do not like all the stories in an anthology yet this one I loved them all. They each were unique in their own ways and were beautifully written. Highly recommended.

Review: Diego, Beck and Denise are friends but Beck and Denise work for a secret agency. Unable to tell Diego puts a strain on their relationship but they both try to cope the best they can.

I enjoyed the paranormal aspect of this story though it seemed brief at times.

We are given an introduction into Diego’s childhood and glimpses throughout his life. Which was nice to know about him in more detail but I wanted to know about Beck as well.

All in all it was a nice read that was enjoyable if not a bit drawn out at times.

Great read.

Review: This is book two in the Bissonet & Cruz Investigations series. Beau and Tollison have opened their business; it’s almost Halloween, Beau’s favorite holiday. Beau is excited and things are going well for the two men until Tollison’s ex comes back in the picture. Beau’s trust issues are put to the test as result of Tollison’s ex.

Bastien, Tollison’s ex is kidnapped and the investigative team rush to find out why and rescue him. Action packed, edge of your seat read. The mystery was well written and had the right amount of suspense and investigation to leave me waiting for more as the story progressed.

Beau and Tollison heat up the pages and work well together throughout. I really liked this story as it had all the right elements for a great mystery. It keeps the reader engaged while providing enough information to have them wanting more.

Fantastic addition and read to the series.

Blurb: After achieving the impossible and releasing their people from the Varas slavers, Anan and Terja, a spellweaver and spellspinner, start the arduous journey back to their homeland. A winter trek across the grasslands is dangerous enough, but the traitor, Xain, is tasked with recapturing the slaves, and failure will mean his death. As added insurance, the Varas High Regent hires a Triad of legendary Ubica assassins and assigns a full regiment of his personal guards, along with their captain, to the task. Their mission is clear: recapture the escaped Talac slaves destined for the Varas pleasure houses—and the bed of the High Regent—at any cost.

The newly freed Talac travel toward their homelands with the full knowledge they are likely being pursued. The flight westward is fraught with new and unexpected dangers as Anan and Terja struggle to save their tribe. The battle for shelter, food, and a way to defend themselves becomes an all-consuming task, but they are reminded by the avatars of their gods that all is not as it appears.

Review: Anan and Terja are determined to reach the Kuri homelands after their escape from Varas slavers. The journey is long and dangerous. The two must protect the survivors they rescued while battling the Varas chasing them.

The Varas have a triad of Ubica working with them as well as Xian. This causes much stress for the group as they try to thwart the progress of the Varas. I really liked how smooth and well written this story was. It did not pull punches when it came to battle scenes either with the Varas or other creatures.

Fraught with danger this book definitely grabs hold and does not let go until the very end. There are many twists and turns as well as heart stopping scenes. Action, suspense, drama, and mystery are throughout. I’m looking forward to the next book to see what else lies in store for the main characters.

I loved this book and highly recommend it but would advise reading them in order as this one picks up where the last leaves off and the end implies there will be more to come.

Review: This was a very powerful book about school shootings and the effects afterwards. From start to finish the story holds the reader in its grip as the story unfolds. I felt bad the shooter as it comes out he was bullied even though the school has a zero tolerance for that.

I didn’t understand why Mark held himself responsible for what happened considering he was dealing with life after a divorce and his son. I felt he shouldn’t have felt that way for the events. I really liked the whole story.

It’s riveting, powerful and emotional from the get go.

Review: This is a continuation of Ennek and Miner’s journey that began in Stasis.

Ennek and Miner go on an adventure to find freedom from those in their homeland who would have them under their thumbs. This story is Miner’s.

His revelations are heart-breaking. But he is determined to overcome his past and be the best man he can for Ennek. Ennek struggles to control his newfound powers as wizard.

These two are constantly on the move traveling from place to place and encountering many dangers in their quest for freedom and a life free to be together. I love the chemistry and commitment these two characters show each other. With the journey ahead they will need that strong bond as the journey is perilous.

I loved that the story spans several places as opposed to one. The details of the journey were amazing. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.

Review: This is the fifth book in the borders war series. I am sitting here trying to put into words how I feel about this book. I feel raw emotionally for sure. This whole series was a rollercoaster ride that I feel honored to have read.

Merq finds himself feelings things for others instead of being a cold blooded killer. I loved reading how he changed into what he is now as it was no easy adjustment. Armise and Merq’s journey is not an easy one to find happiness. Just when you think they finally find it something else happens to rip it away.

This is the best book in the series as it reveals the secrets that were never answered in the first 4 books. There are twists throughout that leave you spellbound and stunned. This book totally wrecked me. I was crying by the time I was done reading it, and trust me I don’t normally cry while reading a book. Such an amazing journey of two men who started out as enemies and came together despite all the odds.

Truy and utterly a fantastic read. I highly recommend it.

Review: This is the third book in the borders war series and boy does it pack a punch. In this book Merq is torn between loyalties when chaos reigns in the revolution. He goes through some changes as the story unfolds amid betrayal, deceit and some major twists that leave the reader on the edge of their seat awaiting the outcome.

This book spans years not days. So with that being said I loved how the author wrote this book. It has everything, danger, action, romance, and some mind-blowing twists that left me gasping.

Every time I read the next book in this series I am awed by how well written and thought provoking each book is that it draws the reader in its grasp and doesn’t let go until the very end. The plot was awesome, the characters mesmerizing to the point that I could not stop reading.

Highly, highly recommended.

Review: A wonderful story of two young men in college who find out that all is not what it seems and that everything they thought they knew is wrong. Thrust into a magical world full of both allies and evil these must try to survive and complete a journey that has been foretold throughout the ages.

Marcus while sexy and athletic seemed arrogant and cruel at first until you find out the reason why. I felt bad for him that he had to hide who he truly was at the beginning. Toby seemed to bear the brunt of Marcus’ cruel comments. Toby is in love with Marcus and can’t figure out why he him the he does. A surprise request will throw these two together for a rather harrowing adventure into another world.

I loved all the details of the past that went into the books that Toby was a fan of. I suspected that maybe just maybe the places actually existed. I never however suspected another world altogether. This world is fraught with serious danger all throughout as people intent on evil deeds are out to destroy these two young men. I loved how the story progressed and Marcus and Toby worked together.

I was pleasantly surprised by who Toby and Marcus might be. Some scenes were hair-raising, intense and nail biting, while others were happy, sweet and joyful. Some of the creatures described in this book are horrifying and downright mean. The only thing I did not like was the way the time period would all of a sudden go back five days or ten days especially after a scene where the reader is left wondering what will happen. But I understand why it was done after completely reading the story.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in this amazing journey to find out what happens next. There is so much that happens and so many different characters introduced that it’s impossible to put them all in a review.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, action, fantasy and paranormal.

Review: Marcus and Toby’s relationship is tested in this latest installment. The Duke is infatuated with Marcus and tries everything to convince Marcus to leave Toby. But amid the uncertainty of possibly losing Marcus, Toby tries to figure out how to defeat a great evil among them.

Betrayal, deception and danger follow the young couple as the story progresses. It did not surprise me in the least about the leader of the guards. He seemed cruel and without any morals.

I really enjoyed how complex yet well written the story was, there is a lot going on in this series.  The details and mystery were amazing. I was impressed and on the edge of my seat throughout.

Loved it.

Review: This is the second book in the Death and Destruction series and man is it just as good as the first book. Thayne and Jarrett are sent to San Diego to investigate a fireworks incident. What starts as a small investigation turns into a thrill ride as things are not as they appear.

You have an old enemy still around as well as a new group introduced into the mix. There is so much going on that there is never a dull moment in this wonderfully written story. Thayne and Jarrett heat up the pages with their intensity for each other.

I truly love Patricia Logan’s stories. They are well thought out in a way that draw you in and don’t let go until the end. Action, suspense, drama, romance and mystery are throughout this book.

You won’t be disappointed when you read this story. I highly recommend this fantastic story that is outstanding and breath-taking.

Thommie’s Review: No Quarter: ♥♥♥ 2 ½ Hearts

This is the second time I read this book and other than typos and errors lacking, there isn’t much done story-wise. Thus, while much, much easier a read this time around, it was still lacking profoundly in intensity for such an “epic” book/series.

Let’s take a look at the lore here. This series is about the Archangels and their duty bestowed to them by God to protect human kind and the plane of Earth. Specifically here, we have a megalomaniac human who believes to be himself the reincarnation of a Saint and thus he has bargained with a Fallen One, has surrounded himself with demons, and plans to open up the Gates of Hell and unleash the poor condemned souls. The Archangels must intervene and eliminate him, but the impending doom is not overthrown.

This is the main action plot and frankly, I found it lacking. The epic-ness that characterizes such reads was nowhere to be found, the characters making the backbone were quite flat and uninteresting, and the story itself was a bit ludicrous. I mean there were demons that really looked like lackeys, Archdemons that made no impression whatsoever, except for that mwahahaha-type of villain you get on all cheesy reads (seriously Ondrass was overkill), the human megalomaniac named Bob was, oh my God I have no words for him, and they all, all of them fell flat making me wonder what is the point of writing a bad guy if you don’t intend to do something with him.

Romantic wise it was just the same. Michael is supposed to be pinning for Gabriel for years, Gabriel always wanted Michael, but this meeting after a thousand years drove home the fact that he loves him. The beginning – before either of them talked – made you think we’d get the tragic/epic hotter than Hell kind of burning relationship that would make even the stars shine less in front of its brightness etc.etc. But, but I’m afraid it was the most disappointing thing. The longing one would come to expect, the you’re-finally-mine feeling one would rightly expect, the Earth-Heaven-Hell-are-nothing-before-us kind of feeling that should be there, were not. The sex was good, nice and all, but it was no match for Archangels, if not a bit cheesy and laughable at times. I was really put off with this relationship, one ought to have made it burn and explode, but this was beyond lukewarm.

As for Michael and Gabriel as personalities, oh my, especially with Michael, Archangel Michael, the Prince of Heaven, I wanted to blind myself and stop reading altogether. That was one hell of a way to ruin all my fantasies for the big badass Archangel and that I do not forgive. He was ruined and a total fail in my opinion, and while I’d go for any ludicrous story and lukewarm sex/love, ruining such a powerful figure such as Michael is a crime. Gabriel was just, I don’t know, just so weird… I’ll not go there at all.

Overall, this new edition did not bring any changes in the story. The only good thing was the fact that the typographic errors were lacking and it was easier a read than before. Still base core of this story, the backbone of it, held a slight interest, that’s why I’ll be reading the next installment and see if the series is a worth reading one or drop it and move on sort. As for this one, I don’t know. If you like, angels and demons so much and you don’t mind the above, then give it a try.

Pixie’s Review: No Surrender, No Retreat ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts

The war is over between the Angels and Demons and humanity has to pick up the pieces of a world that was torn to pieces. Michael and Gabriel are reunited but it isn’t all perfect, they can’t help humanity without making the situation worse and Raphael is kidnapped which leads to the discovery that other angels have gone missing. As they launch an investigation into the disappearances, Agrat is kidnapped and her bonded begins to lose himself to grief.

This is a well-written story that combines many relationships and hardships with Michael and Gabriel leading the way. Now that the war has ended and the demon Hell portals are closed humanity can begin to pick up the pieces, the angels and archangels help as much as they can but they have limitations. But problems become worse when Raphael is taken and his power is smothered, which leads to healing throughout the world beginning to fail. The other archangels must work together to discover who is kidnapping the angels and to what end, and Michael is made to face the fact that sometimes love strikes everyone, even those that he finds unacceptable.

There is quite a bit going on in this book with Michael thinking that Raphael’s lover is unsuitable, Gabriel dealing with the loss of his children, Raphael disappearing, Israfel unsure if he is good enough for Raphael, all the angels and archangels wondering how they can help mankind and then the investigation into the kidnapped angels. It is quite a good storyline but you don’t get to feel connected to any one character as it jumps from characters to characters so you don’t get to know them that well, even though you do get interested in the storyline you miss out on the characters.

There are some very romantic moments between various characters and some couples are very sweet together in the brief times that we see them together. The storyline is good and the twist was surprising, our angels are being betrayed by someone who was an ally.

I will recommend this to those who love angels and demons, true love, disgruntled archangels, and interesting storyline and a happy ending.

Shorty’s Review: No Shadow Falls ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Semjaza escapes from his eternal prison in the star Aquila. He has several main objectives get his family back, make Gabriel pay for imprisoning him as well as several other archangels for their roles in different things and take back what he believes is rightfully his. Semjaza seemed delusional to me in his thinking. Plus he was cruel to those he commanded. He was not fit to be a leader in my opinion.

Gabriel and Michael seem like the perfect couple. Michael, I didn’t understand why he acts as if he’s embarrassed when someone mentions sex. He’s been around humans for thousands of years surely he’s heard it all by now.

I loved all the details of the different places the archangels travelled. Very beautiful scenery. The archdemons helping the archangels was an interesting surprise. The battle scene between Semjaza and Gabriel was intense. Hot sex scenes throughout.

This is a wonderfully written story full of drama, mystery, suspense, adventure, and action. I was surprised that instead of being with humans or other beings that some Archangels were coupled with each other. Great read.

Review: This story takes place on a college campus. There are a wide range of characters that interact throughout. The son, Wilder, of a prominent politician who uses blackmail to control others. He wreaks havoc among the students and four students, Tony, Sarah, Dashel and Ashley soon have their world turned upside down.

Wilder’s ruthlessness is unnerving as the four individuals face the aftermath with differing results. It’s complex yet intriguing story as we follow the story and the reasoning’s behind the actions. The four students differ from each other in every way.

The author details Tony, Ashley, Dashel and Sarah very well so that we get a true understanding of who they are and where they come from. I truly loved this well written book. It has drama, suspense and mystery that keeps the reader interested and invested to the very end.

Highly recommended.
