Carter Embree has always hoped to be rescued from his productive, tragically boring, and (slightly) ethically compromised life. But when an urchin at a grocery store shoves a bundle of fluff into his hands, Carter goes from rescuee to rescuer—and he needs a little help.
Sandy Corrigan, the vet tech who helps ease Carter into the world of dog ownership, first assumes that Carter is a crazy-pants client who just needs to relax. But as Sandy gets a glimpse into the funny, kind, sexy man under Carter’s mild-mannered exterior, he sees that with a little care and feeding, Carter might be Super-Pet Owner—and decent boyfriend material to boot.
But Carter needs to see himself as a hero first. As he says good-bye to his pristine house and hello to carpet treatments and dog walkers, he finds that there really is more to himself than a researching drudge without a backbone. A Carter Embree can rate a Sandy Corrigan. He can be supportive, he can be a hero, he can be a man who stands up for his principles!

On an office night out before Christmas, Rudy finds the courage to make a move, and they form a tentative bond. When he discovers Zac will be alone at Christmas, he invites Zac to come home with him.
Zac prefers to keep people at arm’s length. Yet when Rudy offers him a family Christmas it’s impossible to resist. With no parents of his own, Zac is pleasantly surprised to be welcomed by Rudy’s. The only drawback is that everyone assumes they’re a couple. Unwilling to disappoint Rudy’s mum and make Christmas awkward, they decide not to deny it.
It’s not a chore for Zac to pose as Rudy’s boyfriend, but the pretence makes him want things that scare him—things like a real relationship with Rudy. Zac’s suffered enough rejection in his life already and is afraid to risk his heart. If he can get over his past rejection and let Rudy inside his armour, he might get more for Christmas than he ever imagined.

And in the weeks leading up to their interview, the former soldier becomes a recurring player in Aaron’s fantasies.

Emerging from the depths of his pain, Operation Better Tomorrow—part homestead, part halfway house for those down on their luck—was born.
Tragedy lurking on the horizon.
As the days pass, Caleb and Aaron’s tragic pasts bind them in ways they aren’t prepared for, but it also leaves them vulnerable. Pushing forward means breaking down walls they’ve built to protect themselves, and just as they’re poised on the precipice of happiness, a darkness descends on the homestead, a hatred that will leave one man clinging to life and the other willing to risk everything to save him.

Blurb: Daring a snowstorm might not be the smartest thing Aiden has ever done, but he can’t stand being in his flat a moment longer. With only three days to Christmas, he doesn’t want to be alone. He wants a place to belong, wants people around him who won’t look down on him. He might not find all that at his mother’s place, but at least it’s better than being alone in the city. If he can make it there, that is.
Tristan is looking forward to a quiet night in front of the TV, but instead, he has to save an idiot in designer clothes from freezing to death in his forest. Tristan tries not to notice the man’s good looks, just like he has tried not to notice any man’s good looks for the last seven years. He knows where relationships go and is far better off living alone, with his dog, in his cabin.
Aiden is driving Tristan mad with his bratty comments and irresponsible ways, and Aiden is going crazy from Tristan’s judgmental attitude. Luckily, in a few days, the weather will clear up, and the two men won’t have to be together any longer. But will a few steamy nights with the grumpy lumberjack change Aiden’s mind about wanting to leave? And will Tristan still want to go back to his peaceful, predictable life without fear of getting his heart broken?
Review: Tristan lives in the mountains with his faithful dog by his side. I do not want to call him a recluse but there is not really a lot of interactions with others as a result of where he lives. He seems content for the most part if not a bit lonely.
Aiden took a bit for me to warm up to as he seemed arrogant and that irritated me until I got to know him better. His mother and the way she is is the reason for Aiden’s arrogance. When Aiden sets out in the middle of a snowstorm and gets stranded Tristan rescues him.
These two do not immediately hit it off. With Aiden’s attitude it’s a wonder Tristan did not throw him back out. But alas as the story progressed the attraction between them proved much stronger. I liked the interactions between these two as it felt real to a degree.
Blurb: What would make you reach outside your comfort zone?
Aron Roberts helped his previous love discover a new one, so now he’s on his own, living only for his work and the times he manages to escape into the sky. He meets Joe Welsh again—a man he met at the roadside a year ago, a man who became an out-of-reach figure in his fantasies. Aron discovers Joe’s life has undergone major changes since their last meeting. The spark of attraction ignites into flames only to be put out by uncomfortable truths.
Can Aron overcome his fears and step out of his comfort zone to find love? Can Joe help Aron to deal with his past and trust him enough to allow Aron into his life?
With the help of family and friends, and a very determined one-year-old girl, Aron and Joe have a journey to make and obstacles to overcome, if they are ever going to get their happy ever after.
Review: This book is linked to Sporting Chance but can be read as a standalone novel.
I can’t tell if I loved this story or hated it. There seemed to be something missing that was important and the emotional rollarcoaster that it sends you on just didn’t really work for me like it should have. Also it seemed to hint at certain things but did not follow through like it should have. I have read a couple of books by this author and it always hits me with her amazing ability at giving you a story.
I could not really connect with either one of these guys but the kid rocked. Now I am always one for when our guys have kids but those are different types of stories if you get my meaning. So when a love story starts off with one of them having a kid from a previous marriage, especially one where they are bi-sexual doesn’t really work for me. I am not a fan of bi-sexual characters but this one works it pretty good. I just wondered if the wife had not died would he have been with the other man.
Aron is an odd ball character who helped his lover find his true one. He has always dreamed about the one man he had met some time ago. Then he comes across Joe once more and things are definitely different. His parents are those that one would never want I can tell you that. He has not had the best role models, so when faced with a child things could be a bit sketchy. He had never dreamed about family or even children, well things might just change.
Joe has an amazing family and a beautiful daughter. His wife died giving birth, and now he was raising their child. HIs parents were wonderful and helped quite a bit, but what he needed was an adult to love. Aron is that man for him. Now their first sexual encounter was completely off. It was not something I would have read or enjoyed reading about. The attraction is there, there’s heat between them but the author just did not rock me with the encounter. It felt rushed and just odd.
It is a very slow paced story which also didn’t do it any favors in my eye. The story had great potential though. It has some amazing characters backing them up which was a plus. It is a story with pain, angst, tension, and some what hot. However it did not really do anything for me I am afraid. I just could not connect with this story, but then again it was just my feelings. I am afraid that this story was just not for me.
Blurb: Holding on loosely has never been such a challenge…
What happens when a tattoo artist and a Delta Force soldier keep a promise and take a cross-country trip together? Quinn and Con are about to finally meet and find out. Quinn thinks he’s the responsible one, but he quickly learns that he needs to loosen up if he’s got any shot of holding onto Con.
***
All proceeds from this novella will go to Hope For The Warrior.
This novella was previously published in the Danger Zone Anthology, again with all proceeds going to Hope For the Warrior..
Review: Con, a delta force soldier, is asked to go with Quinn, a tattoo artist and Scott’s brother, to go on a road trip together which turns out for the good. I liked the interaction between the two characters but felt it would have been a much better story with more descriptions thrown in.
These two are super hot together when they are not fussing. I normally like Jakes books but this one seemed off to me somehow. It was still an enjoyable read watching these two men and their actions toward each other and others.
Blurb: The Saints’ victory in the Super Bowl just prior to the start of Carnival season has everyone in New Orleans floating on Cloud Nine. But for Scotty Bradley, Carnival looks like it’s going to be grim yet again when his estranged cousin Jared—who plays for the Saints—becomes the number one suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, dethroned former Miss Louisiana Tara Bourgeouis. Scotty’s not entirely convinced his cousin isn’t the killer, but when he starts digging around into the homophobic beauty queen’s sordid life, he finds that any number of people wanted her dead. With the help of his friends and family, he plunges deeper and deeper into Tara’s tawdry world of sex tapes, fundamentalist fascists, and mind-boggling secrets—secrets some are willing to kill to keep!
Review: Greg Herren’s mysteries are always fun to read; I am finding that out first hand. I am happy to say that this time Colin stuck around even in the end. Although this time it was Frank who was gone most of the time, but then again he was becoming a damn good wrestler. The amazing Ninja Lesbian’s make another wonderful appearance to save our sexy Scotty. I would definitely recommend reading these books in order.
Well at least it is not Mardi Gras time in this book, but football time. I have to admit that I just don’t get the fascination of football, but at least the guys asses are nice to look at. However for New Orleans the Saints are looking like they are heading to the Superbowl. So Scotty’s family is throwing the party of a lifetime. That is until Jared brought in the nasty Miss Louisiana Tara Bourgeouis, or should I say the ex and dethroned Miss Louisiana. A homophobic bitch who deserved what she got. However it makes Jared the perfect patsy.
Too bad shortly before that another woman, just as homophobic as Tara is shot and killed. However there is a twist to that which might just surprise those of us. It would seem she is not who she says she is or what she is. The gun used just happens to belong to Scotty’s mom and Jared is his cousin so of course he is going to get to the end of this. That is if he lives long enough. Oh I do love some amazing twists.
However I have to admit that when you think about a church that is filled with hate and bigotry, you can guess who the killer is pretty fast, or can you? Now the story rated a five, but the drug use brought it down once more. I mean really a priest using drugs with our characters is not a good add. I would wish for one book that doesn’t have our sexy men using drugs.
Other than that it was pretty damn good and I would definitely recommend it.
When Collin Callahan, British secret agent, goes up against math genius turned surfer bum Oliver Elliot, the battle is epic—and so is the attraction. They’re pitted against each other in an exclusive, ultra-secret—and ultra-illegal—poker match in Gibraltar, but when players start dying and they could be next, they find a common goal: catch the killer before it’s too late.
Evenly matched at poker and romance, they each wrestle personal demons that threaten to consume them as the stakes climb. It’s an all-or-nothing gamble with both life and love on the line as they fight to be the last seven-card studs standing.
Review: Seven-Card Stud is book 2 in Ava Drake’s Wild Cards series, it also happens to be a part of the Dreamspun Desires series. For those that have read book 1, Ace in the Hole, and enjoyed the over the top nature of the plot line (it was excellent over the top fun) then you’ll have to give this one a go. Of course, for those that have not read the first book, you will be happy to know that this functions as standalone novel.
Our MCs for this adventurous ride is Collin Callahan, a British spy who is just about everything you would expect from your Bond-like hero, and Oliver Elliot, who is everything you’d expect from a math genius who decided to become a surfer-bum.
The situation is somewhat complicated but so simple: while involved in an illegal poker game, some of the other players begin to turn up murdered. It is impossible to know who to trust but together Oliver and Collin need to survive in order to find out who is responsible for the murders.
That ridiculous sound description is in fact quite accurate but it really does serve as the launching point for a lot of the fun and danger that happens throughout the entire story. There’s danger from organized crime, illegal gambling havens, and a poker game to end all poker games.
But let’s not forget the super-hot sex and the raw attraction between these two guys. The sexual tension just sizzles between them. Of course there is a good measure of deception in this story, but somehow their growing love is strong enough to keep the fires burning.

Absence is as crucial as presence.
The decision to stop dating has made Vaughn Hargrave’s life infinitely simpler: he has friends, an excellent wardrobe, and a job in the industry he loves. That’s all he really needs, especially since sex isn’t his forte anyway and no one else seems interested in a purely romantic connection. But when a piece is stolen from his art gallery and insurance investigator Jonah Sondern shows up, Vaughn finds himself struggling with that decision.
Jonah wants his men like his coffee: hot, intense, and daily. But Vaughn seems to be the one gay guy in Toronto who doesn’t do hookups, which is all Jonah can offer. No way can Jonah give Vaughn what he really wants, not when Jonah barely understands what love is.
When another painting goes missing, tension ramps up both on and off the clock. Vaughn and Jonah find themselves grappling not just with stolen art, but with their own differences. Because a guy who wants nothing but romance and a guy who wants nothing but sex will never work—right? Not unless they find a way to fill in the spaces between them.

Second chances can appear where you least expect them.
An artist: You can’t go home again—that was Nick’s motto for the past twenty years. He was a teenager when he left his abusive, mentally ill father back in Lacland, a small town in the northwoods of Wisconsin.
Nick’s made a successful life for himself in New York. Then comes the call—his estranged father has killed himself. Nick flies home to a house crumbling from years of neglect, and one very fat bulldog.
And a veterinarian: Jonas doesn’t love his job enforcing university research protocol. His passion is working with dogs, especially volunteering for his boyfriend’s behavioral studies projects. But when he discovers his so-called “life partner” is messing around, he leaps at a job offer in a small town miles away.
In spite of the grief swirling around Nick and Jonas, their first meeting is electric. But Nick will be in town for only a short time and Jonas is still stinging from the betrayal. The men try to keep their distance, but that’s easier said than done, especially in a small town where misery and hope share the same address.
This poignant story about two mature gay men will warm the hearts of readers who believe happy endings are within anyone’s grasp.
**This is an author’s version of the original story first printed in 2013 by Amber Allure.**
Blurb: The Middle East War is finally over and veteran, Cole Everett, is trying to build a new life in Los Angeles and reconnect with his cousin, Sean Martin, a private investigator. His hopes stall when he learns that Sean’s mate, Arturo, is a vampire. It might be 2034 and vampires are an accepted part of society, but Cole can’t accept that anyone would willingly mate with the undead. That is, until he meets Arturo and is introduced to the incredibly handsome Rafael Barrantes. Attracted to Rafael, Cole has to rethink everything he thought he knew about vampires. Taking a job as a security guard for a high-tech company, Cole becomes suspicious when all is not what it seems with so-called ‘government contracts. He can’t decide if he should play it safe and call the cops, or take a chance on his newfound vampire friends. Safe and secure, or caution to the wind?
Review: Cole, Sean’s cousin, is looking for a fresh start after his military enrollment comes to an end. He decides to visit Sean and is shocked that his cousin is with a vampire. He panics and leaves. Cole has a low tolerance for the paranormal until he is introduced to Rafeal.
I loved that the story did not start with Cole and Rafeal. Instead it built up to them meeting, Cole coming to grips with his bigotry and seeing there are things out there that are worth taking a chance on. Sean and Arturo are still very much in love in this story and it shows throughout.
I simply loved the entire story. The two couples blended well together and the story flowed from one to the other and dealt with different issues going on. All in all it was a great read.
