Blurb: Man and wolf. Sworn enemies in the battle for Askara. Can hate and betrayal ever lead to love?

Caleb Harken has spent six years wrongfully imprisoned for his father’s treachery. Tortured and reviled by the very wolf pack he should have been leading as Alpha, he is not surprised to learn he’s finally to meet his death at the hands of the human rebel leader, Taegan Callan.

Taegan gave up his dreams of a life-mate and a family after seeing too many humans butchered at the hands of the wolves—even if Caleb doesn’t seem to be the bloodthirsty savage he expects, and even if he starts to long for a different kind of future with the wolf.

Can Caleb become the Alpha he was always meant to be and lead his pack, or will he finally realize that winning his freedom means nothing when he has already lost his heart?

Review: I waited days to write this review and still can not figure out what to say. Why? Because it was that good and went in a direction I was not expecting after having read the first book. The first thing I loved was that an Alpha was the one suffering. Not that I mean I want to hear of anyone suffering but that usually in books it’s an omega.

Caleb in my opinion was strong despite the abuse heaped on him. It incensed me that he was treated that way at all due to what his father did and not him. I literally hated those who sought to take from him for their own gains.

Teagan was understandably leery of Caleb. His treatment of him was cruel at first. But once things came to light all that changed. Caleb and Teagan were a formidable couple.

I love this series despite it’s darkness at times. Highly recommended.

(Cooper’s Ridge 02)
by

J.J. Harper

Archer Hawkins and Mallory Halston literally run into each other and a true love story is born. Archer pursues Mallory with absolute determination making him fall hook, line, and sinker.

“I really would like to get to know you, Mallory.” His voice husky in my ear. “I don’t think it’s a good idea, I’m sorry.” I’m already kicking myself for turning him down. “That’s okay, I’ll ask again tomorrow, and the day after, I’ll get you to say yes in the end.”

But just when they’re about to get everything they ever hoped tragedy strikes leaving Mal alone and adrift. Putting his past behind him Mal stumbles upon Cooper’s Ridge. Changing his name to Carter, he takes a chance, becoming a bartender at The Last Drop Inn, and embarking on a new life.

Local attorney, Dan Mortimer, has finally found and captured the heart of Cooper’s Ridge’s newest resident, Carter.

“I was coming in to see you, and maybe get you to agree to dinner with me. C’mon Carter it’s only dinner, I’m a nice guy I promise.”

But when Dan’s college friend comes to town to recuperate after a horrible car accident, it seems the most important men in his life may have something to answer for. And just how far will an evil, conniving, homophobic mother with a vendetta go to bring them all down?

Here Without You is a gay ménage story with plenty of hot sex and strong language and is therefore suitable for readers aged 18 and over.

Review: Gael, an enhanced, gets a new human partner, Jake. These two definitely get off to a rocky start but when they are tasked with finding a killer of enhanced individuals they become closer even though they are no longer partners.

I found this story to be awesome. I loved that despite their fears these eventually opened up to the other which was a good thing because one of them may not survive the clutches of a killer. The killer I had figured out before I was told as some things threw up warning bells as the story progressed.

Jake was determined to help Gael as much as he could and when he was in Danger it was Jake that lead the rescue. It broke my heart at what these two have endured in their lives especially Gael. But they helped the other overcome and move on.

Derrick was adorable. I loved that Gael was able to communicate with him when no one else could. This is a fantastic addition to the series. Filled with mystery, suspense and heart stopping scenes this story will have you on the edge of your seat.

Fantastic read and highly recommended.

This is a story about embracing love, whether it’s for someone who walks on four legs or on two. Mavis’s journey back to wholeness and finding her forever home parallels the story of two men discovering each other at the perfect moment—a moment that defies logic, propriety, and common sense. But when did love ever follow a rational course?

Review: He lost his boyfriend, his car and his home. Now he is living with his nutty sister who is trying to talk him into adopting a pet. When he meets Mavis, his heart just says this is the perfect dog. Mavis is a cute Boston terrier who has been abused. To top it off the cute guy from the Humane Society might just be willing to help him.

I will say that at first I thought his sister was pretty cool, but that did not last long. She is a royal bitch, if I must say so. But the guys together, well they rocked. It is a cute little story made even better with a dog. I think the author could have given it a better ending but it was still pretty good. Felt like a longer story but it turned out to be perfect for a break time read.

I will admit that it is not one of those stories I would read more than once though. It is still a pretty nice story with some cuteness to it. I would recommend it.

Blurb: When Jeff agreed to be the sperm donor to his best friend Beth, he never expected a tragedy to leave his newborn and three-year-old motherless. Beth’s loss has totally thrown his life into chaos: his lover has left him, his house isn’t anywhere near childproof, and his boss feels the restaurant has been patient enough with Jeff’s time off.

Donny has always known he wanted to work with kids, and he just finished his degree in early childhood education. He didn’t count on the prejudice he’d face as not only a male nanny, but a gay one at that. Job-hunting has been frustrating to say the least, so when he knocks on Jeff’s door and is greeted by the sounds of things breaking and a pair of screaming children, he thinks maybe he can begin this particular interview with a trial by fire.

Becoming the nanny to Jeff’s children might be a dream come true for Danny and exactly what Jeff needs, but are either of them ready to really be a family?

Review: Four weeks ago, his best friend was happy with her two little ones. Then tragic happened, and Jeff was now raising her children. He had been the sperm donor for his best friend Beth, and now his life has gone crazy. His boyfriend of over seven years decided he didn’t want to be an instant father and took off. He was in desperate need of help.

Donny is one hell of a good man. He loves children and just wanted to be a nanny to a nice family. His only problem was he was male and gay, something noone seemed to want to hire. That is until Jeff and his little family. The man needed his help and he just might have found his own family to love. That is until danger shows up and now their lives are in danger.

This is one of those stories that I can see myself reading more than once. It is a great story but beware you will need tissues. It was very intriquing, exciting and just a great read. I love how this author just puts together a story that makes it seem like you are right there with them all. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. This is one story that gave me everything I could ask for in a story.

I had a blast reading it and can’t wait to read more by this author. I would definitely recommend this book.

He’s caught off guard when his mother and daughter decide to play matchmaker.

Ryan and Alex enjoy each other’s company more than either of them expected, and they soon make a second date. Their lives are complicated, though, in very different ways, and soon family needs and their jobs conspire to pull them apart. They’ll need to figure out how to work through the things keeping them apart, but first they’ll have to decide if they even want to….

Review: Ryan was fifteen when him and his girl friend got pregnant. She didn’t want the kid so Ryan ended up being a full time dad. Then the unexpected happened, and he was raising his sisters three daughters as well. It did not leave a lot of time for a love life. So his daughter and her grandmother went into matchmaking mode. Set him up with a blind date. Talk about a stresser for sure.

Alex was one of a kind. Raised by a father who took advantage of the poor countries, he decided to go in the opposite direction. He works in disaster relief. It takes most of his time from other things. He didn’t even have a real home. And now his aunt has set him up on a blinddate. A man who has four daughters, will he survive or not.

I have read this book and one other by this author and he just has a way of writing that pulls you in each time. I am not to sure what I think of the kids in his stories but they are pretty much like all the ones you come across I guess. It is an entertaining story and what Alex does is amazing. However Ryan was the one that made a big hit with me. Don’t know many teenage boys that would raise their kids, but he was a winner. It actually feels like you are right there with them through out the whole story. It is a fully develope story with amazing characters.

I actually had quite a bit of fun reading this and look forward to reading more of this author’s work. I can’t say they are stories that I would read more then once though. I would recommend this book and can guarantee that it is a blast.

Review: I’ve always hoped Rhys Ford would write a shifter book, because no one can do savage and murderous better than her. I finally got my wish….kind of. Once Upon A Wolf wasn’t exactly what I expected, and while Rhys pulled me into the book with her amazing gift of storytelling, I feel like something was missing.

Once Upon A Wolf feels to me more like the introduction to Ellis and the prequel to his book, rather than the love story of Zach and Gibson. Their budding relationship took second place to Ellis’s recovery, and that’s perfectly fine, except this book was supposed to be more about Gibson and Zach.

Gibson is a wolf shifter who has spent the last 2 years of his life caring for his older brother Ellis, whose body refuses to shift back to human after the horrors of war. Ellis’s torment and slow recovery is beautifully done! I love Ellis! The problem is that I don’t feel like I got to know as much about Gibson, since the focus wasn’t exactly on him.

Zach survived a horrible crash that should’ve left him dead, and after a painful and long recovery, this city boy turned his life around and bought an old inn in the middle of nowhere. Getting lost while walking through the woods, he finds himself chased by Ellis’s wolf, and then rescued from a certain death by Gibson. Finding out that wolf shifters exist blows his mind, but Zach immediately feels at home in the company of Gibson and Ellis.

The romance between Zach and Gibson is veeeery slow burn, and that’s mostly because the focus is simply not on their relationship. We are told that they spend a lot of time together, but we don’t really witness any of those times. I expected more, but this doesn’t make this book bad by any means.

One thing is for sure…. I might not have gotten what I wanted in terms of Zach and Gibson, but I definitely can’t wait to read Ellis’s book! There’s so much mystery surrounding him still! I’m looking forward to it!

Review: The Teddy Bear Club is a totally cute and sweet romance that was everything I expected after reading the blurb and getting excited. It is narrated by John Solo (I don’t think there’s been a book he’s narrated where I didn’t dislike his narration) and so for me this was a no-brainer – I had no choice, I was going to listen to this book.

The story follows Aiden Lake and Devon Smithson. Aiden has adopted his sister’s two kids after she was institutionalized with a severe mental illness. His nieces/daughters are adorable, and they are a cute little family.

Devon’s sister dropped off her baby son three months and now Devon is making changes in his life to be a father to his nephew – which includes a much-needed name change. However, he is feeling overwhelmed and needs advice and support, which he finds at the Roasty Bean where there are a group of single gay parents who meet up to chat, drink coffee and generally hang about in the company of like minded adults.

The road to romance and HEA is not exactly smooth. Aiden and Devon are willing to take the chance and support each other. There really isn’t much more for me to say than that I loved the loving family’s and the sweet romance. I’m looking forward future books in the Teddy Bear Club series.

Blurb: Loren Smith has been in love with Eliot Devlin almost his entire life. During their turbulent childhood and teen years, Loren didn’t always understand Eliot, and sometimes he could be a challenge, but Eliot was the only one to ever truly ease Loren’s deep loneliness and accept him. When Eliot’s increasingly erratic and self-destructive behavior culminates in a suicide attempt at 17, Loren is devastated.

Upon meeting again by chance nine years later, Loren is enjoying a successful career as a police officer while Eliot’s life has been a constant struggle for stability. In and out of mental hospitals, with a rap sheet a mile long, he continues to be buffeted by the twin storms of mania and depression. Loren’s love and protectiveness for Eliot are deeply ingrained in him, however, and their feelings for each other are quickly rekindled.

Loren has issues of his own that he’s dealing with, and trying to understand and cope with Eliot’s bipolar disorder isn’t easy. They believe they’re meant to be, and Eliot brings a fulfillment to Loren’s life that no one else will ever match. But, as they both come to realize, love by itself can’t cure all.

Review: Unquiet is the third book in Melanie Hansen’s series Resilient Love and this book certainly lives up to the title. I’ve been one to do trigger warnings in my reviews but I feel that I need to for this as there is one character who suffers from a severe mental illness, to the point of attempting suicide. This book left me raw and I think I cried throughout the entire 10-odd hours that the book went for. Michael Stellman, a new narrator for me, was just perfect, hitting the right tone and emotion.

This is the story of Eliot and Loren.

Loren is a cop who we met in the previous book as the best friend as one of our heroes (FYI he is Kai Daniels’s best friend), but it’s ok to read this one as a standalone book. Loren knew that he would be a cop when he was a kid, it was family thing for him but it is a job that he loves. There was really only one thing that was left a loose end for him and that was the sudden loss of his best friend, Eliot Devlin when they were in high school. Eliot was always different but until the suicide attempt he had never known that his best friend had had all the signs of bipolar disorder, even as a kid. As kids their relationship was very sweet because they were each other’s everything until one day Eliot tried to kill himself and then Eliot and his family suddenly moved away without Loren ever knowing what happened to Eliot.

Ok, I’m seriously starting to cry just writing about this book. This left such a mark on me, it’s one of those books that just stays with you for days and weeks after you finish. With that said, I’m going to keep the rest of this review short.

Fast forward to the present day and Loren took up an opportunity that could mean a promotion to detective for him. By chance he encounters Eliot after so many years. Loren immediately tracks down his best friend, even after finding out the horrifying and sad truth of his illness. At first Loren understands on the surface but he really needed to experience more of Eliot’s illness to fully comprehend what life would be. Eliot is used to being alone but as soon as Loren comes back into his life it was like a switch was flipped and their old friendship is something of an anchor to him despite his issues. However, Eliot’s issues are not minor and can just be glossed over to a quick HEA and I think that is what I loved about this story. I am glad, too, that Hansen’s didn’t fall into the trap that Eliot would suddenly be better just because he found love with Loren.

Sometimes I wanted to kick Loren because he didn’t see what that sometimes his behavior did negative things to Eliot’s state of mind. But I knew that this was on the bumpy road to Loren understanding Eliot and maybe, just maybe there would be a chance of a future together.

Nine years ago Eric Joyce went wolf when his chosen mate broke the bond, and he hasn’t walked on two legs since. Convinced he lost his friends when he ran out on them, he cut himself off from the pack. But a surprising visitor prods him back down the mountain, and he finds himself welcomed warmly.

Ben Arellano grew up in Texas with a human Catholic mother who didn’t understand a thing about wolves—and didn’t try to learn. He spent his whole life being told his wolf was a demon that needed to be exorcised, surrounded by a wolf pack made up of good ole boys who had no tolerance for his Mexican ancestry or his bisexuality. When he’s given the opportunity to relocate to an accepting pack in Pittsburgh, he jumps at the chance.

When Eric and Ben meet for the first time, neither is ready for it. Where Ben expects rejection, Eric is convinced yet another mate will leave, break the bond, and put him through the same hell all over again. Can they get past their reservations and have a happily mated life?

He’s learned not to take happiness for granted, meeting the challenges of life and love head-on with unwavering commitment and fierce devotion. A series of tragic events leaves Jeremy shattered, adrift on a sea of unimaginable pain. He’s able to piece his life back together, but instead of embracing it, he merely exists, using isolation and punishing physical exertion to keep the world at bay.

High school teacher Kai Daniels has a heart for at-risk kids – he was one himself, and a teenage brush with the law and some troubled years behind bars left him scarred inside and out. With courage, hard work, and the support of friends, he’s built a fulfilling life that leaves no time for a relationship.

An intense encounter with Kai at a gay club ignites a spark in Jeremy that he thought was extinguished forever, but he’s unwilling to destroy the fragile peace he’s managed to create, and he leaves Kai humiliated and disappointed. Review: Signs of Life is book 2 in Melanie Hansen’s Resilient Love series. I hadn’t been sure what to expect. I had read book 1, about 2 years ago, and from reading my review of that I loved it, though I had trouble remembering all of the plot. Regardless, I went into the audio of book 2 with an open mind and hoping that I didn’t need to do a proper re-read of book 2. While I’m sure it would be best to read the books in order, I find that Signs of Life also works perfectly well as a standalone book. However, be warned, it’s probably best to have some tissues handy for this one.

The story follows Jeremy Speer, a lawyer with a tragic past after the death of his family, and passionate school teacher who works with troubled kids, Kai Daniels.

Jeremy has a lot of baggage and emotion to work through before even thinking about a relationship beyond sex. After their first encounter, work brings the two men back together and Kai is not a very happy man about seeing the man he thought as an asshole. For Jeremy, the fact that he barely knows Kai, especially since their first encounter is in a dark, dingy gay club, he has to open himself up before completely fucking up any chance he could have with Kai.

The plot line itself is fairly simple and I’ve tried to keep this review spoiler free, which is the reason why it is so short. For me though, this book was all about the emotion – the loneliness, hurt and grief which has the opportunity to transform into acceptance, love and hope.

I’ve not heard a lot of books narrated by Robert Nieman, and while he is not among my absolute favorite narrators, I nonetheless enjoyed listening to his narration.

For the past two years, Coyote shifter Elijah’s life has been hell. His father, the pack Alpha is embarrassed by his son’s status as an Omega and locks him in his room. Review: I came across this author a few years ago when she wrote the first book in The Lost Shifter series and knew that she would become a favorite author of mine. I have not been let down yet, at least with the paranormal romance stories.

There is nothing better than a good romance that involves the paranormal world. This story is quite unique, different from wolves and feline shifters. You have a group of coyotes, bears, wolverines and even foxes. My attention was captured with the first line and kept all the way to the end. The story is strong and fierce, just as the characters are.

Elijah was caught kissing another boy, and his father went crazy. Pip was whipped and sent away to die, but Elijah was held hostage in his room. Elijah is an omega as was his mother, and omega’s are thought to be weak and should be dead, according to his father. He believed it after hearing it for so long. Then his father decided to give him to a bear clan as a peace treaty.

Kayden was fascinated with the little omega ever since he saw his picture. This was to keep peace between the two groups, but once he finds out exactly what had happened to his little mate, lets just say he would love to see some blood. There are a few more twists to this story that is going to make the story rock even more.

The characters were a blast to read, and I am glad that they were paired off. They seem to just make it work, now if only Elijah’s father and brothers would disappear. I had a lot of fun reading this and can not wait to get my hands on the next book.

Blurb: As far as Liam Lamont’s concerned, life sucks. His mate disappeared without a backward glance, he spends most of his time drunk and he has the worst case of blue balls in existence. Fighting his lion form is tiring and if it wasn’t for his brother Lucien, and the rest of the pack at Ra’s, he’d probably run off into the wilderness and never be seen again.

But even if life had thrown Liam a massive curve ball, the Fates hadn’t forgotten him. One night a mysterious stranger offers to buy Liam a drink and Liam starts to feel a glimmer of hope. But Theo, the mate who walked away, is still lurking in Liam’s heart and when faced with a second mate, Liam had no choice but to tell his new mate about Theo and give him a choice.

Beau Ferris had been told his whole life he would have two mates. All his kind did. His father warned him never to go after one until his pair already claimed each other. But when Beau’s animal spirit warns him of Liam’s despair and Theo’s anger, he couldn’t stay away. When he meets Liam he’s given a shocking choice – Liam or Theo – he can’t have both.

Stubborn shifters, a gorgeous fae toddler with magic flowing from her fingertips, demons, wolves, and even a visit from the Fates; Beau and Liam have to fight through fire before they get their third and the HEA they both dreamed of. But will it be enough.

Review: Each book in the Arrowtown collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and cross over characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Liam’s mate Theo rejected their bond and was quite nasty about it. It seems Theo didn’t believe that true mates existed. There were signs that something was desperately wrong with Theo, but it isn’t until Liam’s other mate showed up. Liam didn’t even know he had a third, but stranger things do happen.

Beau is a phoenix shifter and there were rules. One of the rules is not to look for his mates until they have already met, but something was telling him to go now. What he finds out, shocks him. But not as much as Theo’s reaction. Magic is spilling out, and there are some dark secrets. Fates have a big surprise in store for Beau and Liam, but if you must know read the book. It will surprise you, and in the best ways.

I wasn’t sure if this story was going to have a happily ever after to it, but damn if it didn’t give me a big shock. Not as big a shock as Beau was going to get, but pretty sweet. I did like the sweet and sexy third to the book. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. I love how this author threw in demon possession, that was a nice twist that ended in the best way. Trent was sexy and sweet as hell, a real big plus to this story. Lisa’s stories are getting better each and every time.

It has a serious tone to it, but there is some humor to be found in it. I will admit that you should go back and read book one first once more, because the characters are all tossed around. I can’t wait to see Luke and Lucien’s story. I felt a little bad for the rabbit though, he really needs to get a job, but damn if he doesn’t know how to use his assets. I had a lot of fun reading it and can’t wait to read the next book.

Review: I have to say I was a bit taken back after reading this story. I was expecting more action than the one scene at the end that ended all to quickly. Mostly this story is about Knox and Charlie and how they grow closer despite opposing forces.

What I would have really liked is that when the paranormal military unit went on missions is that we were told in detail what happened. But alas that did not happen. I like action in my paranormal stories so I was surprised this one did not have what I was expecting.

Never the less it was an enjoyable, sweet, funny read. I hope to read more in this series with a lot more than just two men getting together as it did not feel like an actual paranormal book to me.

Good read.
