Blurb: Gianni Cesare is a DEA agent and rancher—who also happens to be a millionaire heir to an Italian count. Running a multiagency sting out of his East Texas ranch means he needs a new foreman… preferably someone a little wet behind the ears who won’t ask too many questions.

Gianni’s Aunt Jerilyn hires Bonner Fannin, a roughstock rider with zero ranch experience and a sister who’s pregnant with a violent biker’s twins. If that’s not bad enough, Bonner is pretending he and his sister are married to protect her and to help get him the job.

Gianni didn’t think Bonner was the marrying type during their torrid beach affair years ago, but he’s not sure if he has time to explore that thought now, as overrun as his ranch is with drug cartels, macho government agents, and local cops. Looks like Bonner and Gianni are both in over their heads, and they may have to band together during this adventure to swim rather than sink.

Review: Stetsons and Stakeout is a standalone novel by BA Tortuga. Stetsons and Stakeouts is a little different to what I’ve read by the author in the past, though has the same basic elements that are familiar with their writing. It’s a real fun cop adventure, action type of story, with a good dash of danger and a real sweet (and sexy romance). All around it’s a totally enjoyable read. It is also everything that I would expect from BA Tortuga, whose books I now absolutely adore and class them as a must read. I find that I really connect with Tortuga’s writing style (I don’t think I did at first, but I definitely do now), and I love the chemistry created between the characters and their depth.

Stetsons and Stakeouts is the story of Gianni Cesare and Bonner Fannin. The two men are complete opposites of each other, but at the same time they are completely perfect together, their chemistry on the page was fantastic. Gianni has a bit of an interesting CV: DEA agent, rancher, millionaire as well as son and heir to an Italian count. He uses his background as an Italian to his advantage when it comes to his work, although he is quite firmly an American who just happened to grow up in Italy. He also owns his mother’s share in the family’s ranch, where his aunt who owns the other half, lives. Gianni loves his zia and the ranch, however, work has kept him away. Until now, a big case involving drugs from Mexico, biker gangs and the like (it’s always drugs and weapons in books) takes him back to the land. On the land we also get to meet two of Gianni’s childhood friends, the town sheriff and an ex-military man who was injured in the service, who quickly come to help Gianni in the big case.

Gianni also meets Bonner. Bonner is essentially in hiding with his little sister, a nineteen year old young woman who is pregnant with twins and needs to get away from the baby daddy. Bonner is hired by Gianni’s aunt and when the two men meet, the sparks begin to fly instantly. However, as their worlds collide danger comes to both men and their families, as Gianni and his people try to unravel and solve the case.

I really enjoyed this story, the MCs are wonderful and work well together, but I also really enjoyed the minor characters that all had their role to play in Gianni’s mission. I really do hope that we get to hear from Gianni’s two best friends, or even one or two of his co-workers, because the glimpse I got of these characters was wonderful and has me curious, wanting to know more about these guys.

Review: A story about a company in trouble with the law but hiding the truth. They set up a worker to take the fall. Regin is the worker that is set up. What he does not expect is for the man he loves to be one of his interrogators.

Makari knows Regin is innocent. He has spent a long time searching for Regin since the accident that affected them both. Deceptions and lies separated them until now. But now they have to find the person threatening the station they are on and saving all from certain death.

I loved everything about this story. A good plot with amazing characters made the story come alive. Along with suspenseful moments and tense scenes that had me captivated from beginning to end.

Fantastic read.

Review: Each Book in the Brac Village collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters I would recommend reading them in sequential order. This particular story is connected to the Brac Pack, Zeus Pack, Christian’s Coven, Brac Pack Next Generation, and Demon Warriors. To enjoy this to get the full impact I would suggest starting with the Brac Pack series first.

Hiding out at the Sheriff’s house as the cute and loveable German Shepard was going so good for him. However the fact that he was a shifter and hiding from a demon might stand in the way. Max accidentally shifts in front of his mate and has a lot of back tracking to do with not only his mate but the sheriff.

Dillion was past annoyed. He always pet and scratched the sheriff’s dog not knowing that he was a shifter nor his mate. Hell he always threatened to steal him but now the mutt was his permanently. To bad his mate was more into deception then anything. That is until he finds out why.

I actually liked this quite a bit and enjoyed the characters. The story moved at an even pace and was full of action and excitement, not to mention some hot sexy times. I was glad to see Panahasi once more as well as his warriors. I also spent time laughing my ass off with most of it. I always liked a good story with humor in it, and this author gives that in spades.

Review: Such a bittersweet story with love, heartbreak and a HEA. I loved Ben and Mischa. Mischa has been through so much. Ben for his part believes what his father says and thinks the worst of Mischa after so many years apart.

Such a beautifully written story. I felt for both Ben and Mischa and the wasted time they could have had. Mischa was strong in his resolve to not let Ben’s father bully him into anything. He was my hero in the story.

Review: Each book in the Abel’s Bloodline collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Seth had been living on the streets trying to survive. That is until he was taken by vampires and turned into a blood slave. Then to be offered a chance at freedom, but it comes with a price. He was to kill another.

Theron figured it out and decided to help his mate out. There was the problem of someone trying to kill him and that there was a big threat inside their coven. They had a traitor to find.

I actually liked this one a bit more than the first two. It still has a dark tone to it and a lot of pain inside, but it also has a second chance and forgiveness. I found that my attention was actually kept with this story till the end. I will admit that for such a short story it does come off like a full size novel. This author sure does know how to give details in such a short read. I actually enjoyed it more than I thought and can’t wait to see what the next story has going on. I will also admit that this is not one of those types that will be read more than once.

Review: Jake and Shane go on an adventure to find the elixir of life and immortality before it falls into the wrong hands. Though I’m used to whole gang being in each book it was a nice change to focus on a few characters at a time.

I liked that romance seems to blossom but in each book it also appears elusive. There are still plenty of sexy times to be had as the two continue on with their mission. I enjoyed the story and it’s many elements as well as the characters themselves.

Great read.

Blurb: Opposites come together for a spicy surprise.

Bradford “Tully” Tolliver has everything—money, a great car, a beautiful condo, and a promising career as one of Portland’s hottest young lawyers. Sure, he puts in long hours and has no social life to speak of, but who needs romance when corporations pay top dollar for his expertise? He hesitates when a colleague asks if her cousin can live with him, but the arrangement will last less than a year, and then the cousin—Sage Filling—will return to his tiny hometown.

But Sage is handsome and intriguing, and his cooking makes Tully swoon. Sage has obligations back home, though, and Tully has offers he might not refuse from a persistent—and very wealthy—ex. Since Tully and Sage each have a full plate, can they make room for a side of love?

Review: A Full Plate is a novel by Kim Fielding from the Dreamspun Desires line. I’ve read this book in the past and have enjoyed it, I love the ease of the audio format for my commute and so enjoy listening to books that I’ve read and liked in the past.

I’m also always curious because sometimes narration can help me enjoy the story more. This story was excellently narrated by Kenneth Obi, a narrator I’ve become more familiar with in the past 6 or so months and I’ve never had an issue with his narration. I really enjoyed the he gave to the characters and the tone used throughout the book. It worked well. I think the only reason why his narration didn’t allow me to enjoy the story so much more than when I read it is probably because I felt that the story was a tad slow in the middle leading up to when the characters get their butts into action. Not to say that this was a bad story, because obviously, I don’t think that at all.

The story is about high-power lawyer Bradford Tolliver, better known as Tully to his friends, and Sage Filling, the cousin of one of Tully’s friends. At first it seems like these guys are complete opposites. Tully is a well-educated city boy, whereas Sage is a country boy who had spent so much time and energy running his family’s diner in his home town. Sage needs to make money and he can’t do it at the old diner anymore, so he’s in the city where he is a line cook at a greasy burger joint. Sage also happens to be a cooking prodigy; his only problem is that he doesn’t have the fancy education to be much more than a line cook anywhere. Tully takes Sage in as a roommate, in exchange for his room and board, Sage does all the cooking.

These guys don’t come together easily. Their road to each other is a little bumpy to say the least, mostly because Sage doesn’t want to start a relationship when he is only going to be in Portland for less than a year. Tully will take anything he can with Sage, even if he knows it will end in heartache. Regardless, these guys are clearly made for each other and their subtle romance is something that I cheered on. The most telling part was when their lives meshed together so easily and both men displayed some misplaced jealousy.

If you’re into a sweet romance between a country and a city boy this is the story for you. I enjoyed the lack of ego and these guys just being average guys trying to make their lives work.

Review: Love You So Hard is the first book in Tara Lain’s Love You So, series. It is a really nice, relatively short audiobook that is totally sweet. I’ve enjoyed Tara Lain’s writing in the past, including the second book in this series. So it goes without saying, it’s OK to listen to this out of order, you don’t get any spoilers of what happened in book 2 about book 1 other than seeing the two guys together.

Craig Elson works hard. He prides himself on his work as a strategic planner and is expecting a big promotion at work. His mother is in a care home due to the Alzheimer’s taking her memories away from Craig. The highlight of his day is going to the coffee shop and seeing the hot guy who wears the shirt that says “I’d Bottom You So Hard”. But when his boss takes credit for his, gets the promotion that Craig was looking to get, Craig just hits a wall and decides to take a vacation to figure out his next step.

This is where Jesse steps in. Jesse, he’s writing his PhD thesis and teaching at the college and happens to be the guy who wears the shirt that intrigues Craig so much. It just so happens that he is as curious about Craig as Craig is about he. They get to talking and strike a deal – Jesse is going to become Craig’s tutor to help him get his life together and find a better job.

What I love about this the most is the simplicity of the story. What we get as the reader/listener is a beautiful romance as two men unwittingly get involved and transform each other’s lives.

The one thing I am going to whinge about, and it’s honestly nothing bad about the book or the narration, just the simple fact that I cannot stand how Americans pronounce Craig (i.e. “kreg” instead of “krayg”).

Review: I love almost anything written by Andrew Grey. The man has a way with words and romance that I absolutely love. So, I’m not going to spend time gushing over how much I love his characters and how well they develop over the course of the book, and the chemistry, the sexual tension between the MCs. He also does wonderful stories with kids, who don’t steal the show but are often as sweet and as lovable as their fathers. I basically love everything.

Greg Tremblay performs the audio for this book. I know his narration from other Andrew Grey audios, particularly from the Senses series. In this book, his voice is absolutely perfect for tone and suspense in the stories, as well as providing the perfect tone for the individual characters.

Fire and Flint is the story of Carlisle Deputy, Pierre Revelle, and Jordan Erichsohn, the assistant to Judge Crawford. The judge has been receiving some threatening letters lately which is what brings the two men together. Jordan, finds it difficult to trust the deputy and scared to do anything that could jeopardise his adoption of a sweet little boy who needs love and parent. The situation is dangerous because Jordan is sure, or at least suspects, that there is something crooked with this boss. Pierre is instantly attracted to Jordan, but he is a professional and he is intent on finding out what the hell is happening. Love comes organically as Jordan helps Pierre try to discover the truth of who and why the judge is being threatened.

Fire and Flint is a fast paced suspense, romance. This is good for people that love a good romance where the sexy cop comes riding in like a knight in shining armour and a strong lawyer who has so much love to give. They aren’t a conventional family but their chemistry together is perfect.

Blurb: Roque “Ro” Celdran dreams of a better life, far away from the hand-to-mouth existence of his migrant worker family. He moves to San Francisco to study Landscape Design but finds himself short of cash. Tony, Ro’s identical twin, comes up with a plan to help Ro make ends meet. The BDSM club Tony frequents is looking for gay men to act as submissives to the Dommes-in-training. Ro reluctantly takes the job and falls headfirst into a world he neither understands nor desires.

Lance Roberts is the new doctor at the dental practice started by Scott Gregory and Robin Kennedy. On the surface, he seems to have it all: the Mensa IQ, blond and blue-eyed good looks, and the determination to make it in his competitive field. Underneath lies a frustrated Dom in search of the perfect sub who can handle his obsessive behavior and debilitating need for control.

When Ro ends up in Lance’s dental chair, the last thing either one expects is a physical and mental connection. Ro’s attraction to “White Bread” never pans out, and Lance’s weakness for Latinos always leads to a dead end. Could this time be different? What happens between the two alphas leads to a lot of soul-searching and some surprising conclusions.

Review: Fractured is the third book in Mickie B Ashling’s Bay Area Professionals series. While this is the third book in the series, you can easily read this as a standalone as there are only brief appearances of the founding (if you will) characters of the series, Scott and Robin, as Lance is the new doctor in their practice. However, if you tried to read book 2 as a standalone, the word impossible comes to mind.

Although I’ve been enjoying this series, I can’t say if I am completely sold of Ashling’s writing to put them into my authors I must read list. Yet in saying that, I’m really impressed with how well the author deals with what could be classed as taboo, or even progressive, storylines that heavily involve some form of kink. I find these types of books hit and miss, but I am really impressed by how Ashling tells the story with an edgy twist, but also manages to move the story along quick enough that I didn’t get bored. I personally don’t like long sex scenes in books, because romance isn’t all about smut, and Ashling nailed this (pun intended) really well.

The story is about Roque, aka Ro, and Lance. As I just said, Lance is the new doctor at a surgery set up by a dental surgeon and dental hygienist who live the BDSM lifestyle, except at work. Lance is also a Dom, he needs the perfect sub that can match his need to dominate and control, but so far he’s been very unlucky in love.

Ro is a man of many dreams, he wants an easier life, away from his family and wants to study landscape design, but since he’s short of cash, his twin brother produces the answer. There’s a BDSM club which needs a submissive, gay male to perform scenes with the training Doms. He enters the BDSM world reticent but desperate, not expecting to find what he needs.

It is at the dental surgery where Lance and Ro meet. The sparks fly but both guys have been unlucky going after the type of man that they see in each other. These guys are extremely complicated characters and part of what can make these books hard to read is that Ashling delves deep into the minds of the MC as you go along. The character development is spectacular. Likewise, the secondary characters are also amazing. These guys are complicated but they have good people in their lives to help them along the way.

I recommend this one to those that first, love BDSM, but also have a touch of angst tied within a pretty complex and deep storyline.

Review: Michael is having dreams of the erotic variety of a sexy man he’s never met. When tragedy strikes with his parents murders and his brother missing Michael decides a new scenery is in order. He moves to Mystic Bay where things go bump in the night.

I loved everything about this story. Dark at times yet sexy and passionate at others this story packs a punch. I was on the edge of my seat as Michael is introduced to the paranormal world. There are great characters introduced such as Paul a guardian and Andy a fire elemental that help Michael try and deal with what is happening.

Several things are on going throughout and Clay, Paul and Andy try and help the best they can. I do not want to give anything away regarding details.

This book had me riveted from start to finish. I was on the edge of my seat the entire reading of it. I loved all the characters and how the pieces of the plot intertwined to make for a fantastic and highly recommended read. I am eagerly waiting for the next book to come out to see what happens next in the series.

Review: Each book in the Hounds of Hell collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

There is something about the way that Flynn tells a story that will not only draw you in and keep your attention the whole time, but it will more than likely have you laughing your ass off at parts of it. The characters are beautifully written with big hearts, however if you cross them, they have no problem putting you down. They will protect their love ones with their entire lives.

Colton is a loud mouth hell hound who wants what he wants right then and now. But he loved teaching the kids. Finding out that one of his student’s father is his mate sends him into a sight to see. But the kid is just a bit jealous of his father and Colton. Going to need to be calm, cool and collected now.

I love the paranormal tone and the little bit of twists that come with it. I had never really thought about a story that not only has angels in it but hellhounds also. When one thinks hellhound, they think evil and death. Now granted they were originally from hell and they can kill who they think need to die, these guys are different. Now even though there is a bit of angst with each character, which at times can drive a reader nuts, there is very little danger. This one is a bit different as is Garnet being in trouble but no outside danger.

Other than that I had a blast reading this story. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It also gave me everything I could want in a book.

Blurb: Alek’s older brother, Justice—the Alpha Zenith—was the first shifter to mate with a vampire in many generations, and it was believed the rare, fated pairing would stop at him. But, it hadn’t. Aleksei ‘Alek’ Volkov was second beta, next in succession to the most powerful shifter in the world. He was proud of his title and he took his duties seriously. It was all he had. Until his true mate literally showed up on his doorstep.

While his brother—the overachiever—excelled at having a vampire as a mate, Alek wasn’t that optimistic he would. He wasn’t averse to love, and he’d often thought of how different his life could’ve turned out if he’d ever experienced the emotion. His life was a mess and he’d worn a mask of stability for a majority of that time, only showing his siblings and pack what they needed to see—a strong Volkov alpha. Not the damaged man he was, with a tortured soul and a rogue wolf.

Alek dropped his heavy head in his hands. Now, for some reason, I’ve been granted a true vampire mate. And not just any vampire. The intimidating Belleron Liatos. Lord High to the King and the leader of his army.

Belleron ‘Bell’ Liatos had come to the states for one reason—his best friend and Vampire King, Chadwick Bentley. He certainly didn’t come to be pounced on by a wolf that could act independently of its master. Not only was his destined cherished a complicated and confused man; but he was also unaware of the powerful presence that lurked in the shadows of his soul. Bell didn’t know he’d be the key to unlocking an exceptional triad that would play a critical role in fulfilling the prophesy.

Review: This story picks up where the last one leaves off. I loved this story about Bell and Alex. The struggles they go through are tense at times. I was intrigued by Alek’s other halves that reside inside him especially Wrath. Though at times this story seems to slow way down and repeat itself I still loved the way it moved forward eventually.

Bell was perfect for Alek though at times his attitude irritated me. Given that these two are mates it was to be expected that everything would not be sunshine and roses between them. Alek’s three entities are at odds with each other which causes a problem. Eventually they learn to work together instead of against each other.

All in all it was an enjoyable read with drama, action and some tense moments. Add that all together and you get an amazing addition to the series at a whole.

Great read.

Hesitant, Austen turns Kieron down, deciding to err on the side of caution. The first time Kieron saw Austen, he was curious as to why a hired killer would be following him. And as that danger gets closer, Austen loses his heart to Kieron against his better judgement. Review: Each book in the Wildcat County collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

Things are out of control for Austen. He loves his little sister something fierce, but the rest of the family could drop dead. His boss wants him to take over the shop but he has some conditions that Austen doesn’t like. Then a sexy cat ask him out, and he just wasn’t sure he wanted to try. His last mate left him and hooked up with a female. He just wasn’t to sure about love.

Kieron was working for the good guys while undercover with the bad guys. He has been given instructions on what to do, but a sexy feline has him tied into knots. Then he finds out that Austen’s family just might be involved. He was a hired killer for Logan, but he knows he will protect his mate. That is if he can get his mate to behave.

With this story you definitely have to read the previous books. The characters are so hard to follow and even though they are fighting for good, you just can’t tell. This story was actually a bit easier to follow but still ended up giving me a damn headache. I was glad for the ending and happy to see them together. The writing is well done and the story top rated, but like I said it is a bit confusing. It jumps from one spot to the next.

I can honestly say that I am on the line with this book. I don’t know if I like it or not. It has a darkness to it that I don’t really care for and very little humor to make up for it. I hate to admit that I might just give up on this series, since I have difficulties following it. Oh well we will see what the next one looks like.

Augustus Mallory carries more than the weight of the war effort on his shoulders. He’s the last of the Mallory wizards, feared for their power, arrogance and the dark family curse. Review: I found both Jonah and Mallory adorable in the way they handled their feelings for one another. Jonah for his part was a great asset in determining when worms were near due to his injury. Mallory was unapproachable at times due to the way he acted around others. But when explained the why of it I understood.

The so called curse left me confused. The explanation is that previous family members reacted negatively with rejection. Well that means they can not handle rejection and took matters into their own hands so I did not understand why it was labeled a curse. This is why Mallory stayed away from Jonah at the beginning. I think he let what happened to others influence him into thinking he should be alone forever instead of taking a chance at love.

It was a good read with plenty of action and creatures attacking as well as magic and finding ones self in the process.

Review: I kind of knew what I was in for when I started Eye of the Dragon, although I wasn’t entirely happy about it, but I had already read book one in BA Tortuga’s Wildcatters series and silly me cannot handle not finishing a series. In saying that, I certainly had no surprises, so I found it easier to read. Eye of the Dragon is the sequel to Oil and Water, first publish in 2008 by Torquere press and second edition published by Dreamspinner in 2019.

However, the only disappointing thing is that this is in complete contrast to how much I’ve come to love BA Tortuga’s writing over the past year. I had already had the sneaking suspicion that I had tried reading Tortuga’s work about 10 years ago through Torquere Press, but I never got the spark of love which I get now from the author. I have now come to the conclusion that, quite simply, I don’t connect with Tortuga’s earlier work, and so I will leave it at that.

The story is a wild ride with tons of sex. I’m going to put in on front street, if you like a tonne of sex in your romances, this will probably appeal to you more than it does to me. For this reason I don’t feel comfortable going too deep into the plot because there feels like there is more sex than substance. I feel that there was never really any real context to the random sex scenes and it broke up the book too much for me. But the plot is fun, reading the blurb it made me think of a modern day, gay Indiana Jones type of thing. Cameron is a grad student who is out to get some life experience, and he finds it when he meets Poe (we met him briefly in book 1) in Mexico. The adventure is Poe and Cameron trying to find the relic known as the Eye of the Dragon. The guys together make a great couple and there really is a great spark between them, I just felt that it was lost along the way.

This review really pains me because of my recent love for Tortuga’s contemporary cowboy romances, but that’s just how it is.

Review: Romancing the Undercover Millionaire is the third book in Clare London’s Romancing The… series. I really like Clare London’s writing and this book, in fact the series, has not been an exception. All the books in the series are standalone, with no linking characters, so there’s no need to worry if you’ve not read the previous books. This series is really just sweet romances between men of completely different walks of life. This book is for the people that love the sweet romances, where Prince Charming comes in and saves the day.

The narration by Seb Yarick is quite good too, although the accents didn’t seem right throughout the book being that none of these are my native accents after a while it didn’t bother me at all. Instead the strength in his tone used for the millionaire in the book, Alexandre Bonfils, is perfect. Alex is something of an entitled guy who learns about what it’s like to be a person without the privilege and trappings that comes with absurd wealth. He also nails a great, soft spoken tone for the other MC, Tate.

With Alex being a millionaire, the ne’er do well son of the head of major international company, Tate really is his exact opposite, he’s the son of a factory worker who has become the warehouse manager for the Bonfils’ company. For Alex, after a show down with his father, Alex decides (with a bit of help) to show his family that he isn’t useless. But to do that he goes undercover in the company warehouse to track down some suspicious “accidents” that keep happening as the company approaches the release of a new wine that could win them one of the most prestigious awards in Europe. This is how he meets Tate, the warehouse manager. Tate has a few niggling feelings about Alex (who is definitely not going by the name Bonfils and has now dyed his blonde hair black). As they get to know each other, the suspicious activity begins to increase. Tate rejects his concerns over Alex when Alex is injured. When Tate insists on inviting Alex to stay with his family, the two men become closer and suddenly for Alex everything becomes more and more complicated when feelings become involved. However, all that Alex wants to do is figure what the hell is going on and who is trying to sabotage his family’s company.

Blurb: Justin Cuevas is going through a rough patch. A broken relationship, a scandal, and the demise of his band have shaken the aspiring rock star’s confidence. Working two jobs and sleeping on his friend’s sofa isn’t ideal, but Justin isn’t ready to give up yet. With a little luck, he’s hoping to re-launch his music career in LA with his new band, Zero. The key is to stay focused, and not get distracted by his past…or the sexy songwriter he can’t get out of his head.

Gray Robertson has written dozens of hits and worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. But he’s never met anyone like Justin. The younger man is fiery, passionate, and smart. A powerful voice for a new generation. Other than an unforgettable one-night stand and a passion for music, the two men have nothing in common. Or do they? Justin knows the out-of-the-blue challenge to write a quintessential love song is a huge opportunity. And it’s the ultimate test for someone who’s doesn’t believe in happily ever after. When sparks fly, Justin and Gray realize they have a shot something special if they start from zero together. Maybe even love.

Review: Even though I find that I like Lane Hayes’ writing, I don’t particularly seek out or thoroughly investigate what comes out until something kind of just pops onto my radar. However, reading the blurb for Starting at Zero left me in two minds but I figured this would be a book that I would enjoy but not love. If only because for me Hayes’ writing style makes it so easy for me to connect to the characters. Being an audio, narration almost always lifts a book and how much I enjoy it.

Well, I was totally wrong.

Not on the narration – the narration was wonderful and did exactly as I said it would. Michael Pauley is a wonderful narrator and his voice suited this book, and the tone used for the two MC’s was absolutely spot on. Cannot say a bad word about his performance at all.

The part that I was totally wrong about was how much I would enjoy the story. I was completely pulled away and completely pulled in by the drama of the whole book. The whole struggling singer getting together with someone experienced in the industry is not entirely uncommon, but I really liked the direction that Hayes took on it. I also really liked the fact that the story was told from the POV of both MCs, which left me very satisfied in knowing what both the guys were thinking.

The singer is Justin Cuevas. He has dreams of being a rock star (he makes a comparison to Dave Grohl which, as a Foo Fighters fan, I really appreciated). However, a scandal caused by his ex, which in turn led to the band breaking up has ruined their chances. For now. At the age of twenty-six, Justin knows that he is facing his last chance to make it big. A new gig with what was left of the band and a trap laid by his ex and a slimy club owner leads Justin and his band to an opportunity, albeit with a plenty of drama.

Justin meets Gray Robertson, not realising just how successful Gray is until Justin gets an offer he can’t refuse. First, he is offered a job to sort and curate Gray’s insanely large record collection. Then later, it becomes clear that Gray’s friend (an aggressive producer named Seb) has plans to exploit the drama in Justin’s life, leading to the opportunity of a lifetime for Justin. But Justin isn’t just looking after himself, he has his band members of the newly formed band Zero to take care of. Gray sees Justin’s intelligence, appreciates and respects it. Gray is just one of those awesome guys that you just want to get a HEA for.

This story is Justin’s fight to get his band what they all deserve, but like anyone, there are so many facets of a life, and for Justin that also means finding love, trying to reconcile his mother and brother, generally trying not to have some sort of break down as his mind races and the stress gets to him.

The story is also Gray’s second chance at finding a love that would stand the many tests life throws his way. He has had his heart broken in the past, he has lived in the closet, at first by the necessity and then because he was asked to. He loves his home, his record collection and his music. And despite the age difference and the clear talent he wants to nurture in Justin, he wants more from Justin than he feels has the right to have.

The two men compliment each other, where Gray acts as a grounding force for Justin’s passionate mind. Justin is all emotion, often acting first, while Gray is all about thinking. I really enjoyed their relationship. It was passionate but it was deep, I really liked that they took the time to know each other, not just fall in love. Their love story is so entwined with the drama of the book, you can’t have one without the other, and you cannot have these two guys without having all the people that surrounded them.

The secondary characters are widely varied and very deep. This adds so much complexity to the whole story because although they are not Justin and Gray, these characters had a massive influence on the plot. I’ve already mentioned, Seb, and while he was a good enough character, he wasn’t the most important secondary character. Gray’s godson, Charlie, quickly becomes a character that I was intrigued by. Charlie had a lot of good intentions and is a strong character that cares deeply for the ones he loves. The passion that he shows has him pegged as one of my favourite secondary characters, in addition to member of Zero and Justin’s best friend, Tegan whose passion was just as intense as Charlie’s. I hope that both these characters have their own stories to tell.

I recommend this one to people that like their couples with an age gap and those that love the idea of a plot of men looking to capture their chance at stardom.

Blurb: Brett Taylor’s world collapsed three years ago when he lost the love of his life. Almost as bad as the grief is the advice he’s starting to get from everyone and their brother, telling him it’s time to move on. They’re flat-out wrong. He left his career as a musician and escaped to his ranch be-cause he needs the peace and quiet, and he’s doing just fine. He doesn’t want anyone invading his memory-filled, booze-fueled solitude.

JT Campbell’s world has been defined by his parents’ money, status, and his own empty rela-tionships, until he’s desperately sick of it. A quest to find something meaningful leads him to Brett’s failing ranch. It’s supposed to be a brief stay. JT never wanted to be anyone’s savior or compete with the ghosts of lovers past. Still, he can’t help wanting this gruff and grieving man.

JT’s mind knows it’s a bad idea, but his heart keeps pushing him to find out what lies beneath Brett’s rough and broken exterior. Brett’s not going to make it easy. Review: Unbreak My Heart is a beautifully sweet romance by K-Lee Klein. The author was completely unknown to me, so I didn’t know what to expect. What I found is a wonderfully written slow burn romance about losing a great love, being forced to face reality and ultimately learning how to allow love back in. It is also a sad story, with probably a touch of angst. In many ways this reminded me a little of Andrew Grey with that all-important theme of finding love after loss, with the ranch setting and cowboys thrown in.

The narration by Nick J Russo was excellent. I can’t think of a performance of Russo’s that I haven’t enjoyed. His soft-spoken voice created the perfect tone for this heart felt story.

When we meet Brett Taylor, he is a broken man. He has lost the love of his life, and that is part of the grief that keeps him firmly stuck in his whiskey bottle. However, as we get to learn more about Brett, he also has to work through his own guilt and regret from the past. Retreating to alcohol, he has firmly shut out the past, quitting his life as a popular musician and closing everyone off, holding on tightly to his misery. He resents that his family insists that it is time to move on. Brett is a stubborn sod and he decides to dig his heels in.

All that changes when JT Campbell is forced into his life. JT is a bit of a mystery to Brett. JT came from money and privilege and so many empty relationships that he decides to leave it all behind to find himself. JT knows what a disaster it could be to fall for a man who was hanging onto the ghost and memories of his dead lover, but JT is attracted and he wants to do anything to help Brett.

If you’re into slow burn romances and cowboys this is for you. Of course, there is the typical explosion of drama required at the end of any book, but I love how it all played out.
