Leopold

(Saga of the Bold People 01)
by

M.D. Grimm

How does a human survive in an alien dominated InterGalactic Community? By becoming an assassin, of course.

At least, that’s what Leopold thought when he became an assassin for the elite. Pretending to be an alien known as Voidstriker, Leopold feeds his appetite for vengeance, killing aliens as well as taking their money. It’s a win-win to his mind. That is, until a bounty is placed upon his head.

With his true identity now revealed to the IG Community, Leopold knows it’s only a matter of time before the powerful family members of his victims come for blood. Far worse is the fact that the one who put the bounty on his head, is the one he most fears.

A routine job three cycles ago brought him face-to-face with Mastrodai, a prince of the powerful Mrrog Nation. Not only did Leopold—accidentally—destroy part of Mastrodai’s moon, but one glimpse of the mighty alien had him feeling desire for the first time in his life. He ran, and like predator after prey, Mastrodai never stopped hunting him.

Leopold is convinced that Mastrodai wants bloody revenge. But when he finally confronts the mrrog, he is stunned to realize Mastrodai wants something very different. Something surprisingly intimate—the one thing that scares Leopold more than torture.

Warnings: torture and rape off page, dealing with aftermath of the abuse

Review: Mars is dying. Everyone escapes but Elric and Max. With Elric hurt and on the mend it is a race to fix the ship and leave before it’s too late.

I loved this installment of the series. Max and Elric worked well together. What broke my heart was what happened on earth. I was not expecting it so it floored me.

As usual this s a stunning story filled with danger, intense moments and finaly love. The intensity between Elric and Max was off the charts. I loved how tender Max was with Elric when he was hurt.

I am really sad to see this series end.

Blurb: Cain Slays Abel!

In this day and age, that’s not an earth-shattering headline. We want headlines that scream of life-altering events.

Terrorists Nuke Peace Conference!

That’s what we want to read, or we would if we hadn’t lived it in hours before the beginning of the Great Upheaval. The current world was born in nuclear fire and electromagnetic disruption. Most of the superpowers I knew in the early and mid 21st century were washed away.

Cain Slays Abel!

The truth behind that simple story is vastly more complicated than anyone could imagine. It is a life-altering headline, at least for me it was. Twice a simple tale of murder turned my life upside down. I am Richard St. Martin, Lord of all Vampires, but before my story can be told, you need to learn the story of the first Lord of all Vampires, Cain. My stepchildren call him Father Cain because he was the first. To ferret out the truth behind the tale, I had to recruit two talented mortals: Dr. Jeremiah Banks, Archaeologist, and Professor Juan Di Vargas, Theologian and Religious Scholar. Together they found the secret origin of the vampires:

Shorty’s Review ♥♥♥♥♥ 4 1/2 Hearts

This is a story filled with many wonderful characters that brought the details of this story to life in startling clarity. Dr. Jeremiah Banks, is an esteemed archaelogist who attends a conference where he meets esteemed Professor Juan Di Vargas, Theologian and Religious Scholar who then begin a passionate night together. With the way the world is in the story they must be careful of being caught as times are certainly different that what the reader will be used to. It seemed that certain things went backwards instead of advancing forward and nations were divided.

Times are different in this tale. The religious aspects and journal entries regarding Richard St. Martin and Cain are fascinating. Though I’m not overly religious myself I was enthralled with the story as it progressed. This story takes us on a wild adventure to discover the truth of El-Abel and Enoch’s whereabouts and the vampires that either protect the knowledge or want it for themselves.

Cain’s tale is fascinating along with his brothers. But, the actual shocking part was the end as I never saw it coming. Twists and turns, mages, witches, vampires danger and traveling the globe on a quest are all in abundance in this intriguing story yet at times difficult to read for me. But overall awesome.

Pixie’s Review ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts:

Well this was a story and a half! The world building was incredible, pulling us into a world where technology is a thing from the past, religion has it’s hold on the world and in some areas slavery is legal.

I will be honest and say it took me a while to get used to the writing style, and if it wasn’t for the story being so interesting then I would have stopped reading it early on. I finally got the hang of the writing style about 25% in, and from then on it was a brilliant read that kept me turning each page to discover more.

The storyline itself was intriguing, the way that most of humanity turns back to religion in the face of disaster and the way that attitudes and behaviour  seem to reverse to the early 1800’s, with bigotry rife and slavery enforced. Don’t even get me started on sexuality! Damn if disaster ever does strike like this I hope humanity is better than returning to a time that oppressed so many.

We are treated to the developing relationship of Jeremiah and Juan, a May/December love story that has some D/s qualities, their relationship is stretched over time from their first meeting to the archaeology dig where they discover so much that had been hidden.

Then we have the vampires and the story of Cain, Richard St. Martin certainly shines through these moments as entries are littered throughout the story leading us to an ending that is shocking as the truth emerges about the true story of Cain and Able.

At times this story is edge of the seat as Jeremiah and Juan clash with the people & vampires who are trying to keep them from discovering the truth about El-Abel and Enoch. We are treated to danger and adventure that has us excited for the next chapter, and as we approach the end of the book we are thrilled with what must be a showstopping ending. Well, don’t hold your breath, because while the anticipation is built for a big blockbuster ending what we get is a lackluster fizz as the confrontation seems to collapse in on itself in such a way that we sit there gobsmacked and shaking your head thinking “over four hundred pages for that!”.

But while I had a deep sense of betrayal over the ending battle I have to admit that this is an excellent story that has many intriguing and exciting moments, it draws you in with the tasty tidbits from the Vampire Interludes, with the interesting world building and an ending that makes you want to stomp the book into oblivion and leaves you panting for the next book.

So I recommend this story for those who love a great futuristic paranormal story that has a lot going on, with characters that pull you in, with danger and adventure and a happy ending for the MC’s but which is just the beginning for the Vampires!

Blurb: Life as an immortal might seem like a dream come true, but for Tular, the God of Death, it was frustrating. His fellow Gods insisted on getting involved in the mortal realm and mucking things up. It didn’t help that love never seemed to be in the cards for any of them. So, when he felt a pull to the mortal realm, he was stunned to find himself drawn to a human of all people.

Joren didn’t know how much more he could take before he fell apart. The Paranormal War had killed his parents, destroyed his home, and left him devastated and unsure about his future. But it was as he sat there praying, his entire world imploded, for he opened his eyes to find the most terrifying man in the universe standing there staring at him – The God of Death.

So why did Joren want to curl up in the God’s arms? More importantly, why did he find himself desperately wanting to be kissed by him?

Review: Each book in the Paranormal Wars: The Gods collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. In this case this series is a branch off from Paranormal Wars: Stone Haven and Paranormal Wars: Juarez. I would start with those series first.

A war has been started, nuclear bombs were set on innocents, just because the Psy paranormals wanted the others eliminated. Thousands died and for what, power. Joren has lost his family and so many innocents, but his heart leads to forgiveness when others want revenge. His prayers lead the God of Death to him.

Tular is the God of Death and damn if he is not pissed off. Human’s caused problems and killed each other off. The Gods decide to create the paranormal’s to even it out, but it only causes more death. Now that death has led to thousands and thousands of innocent victims. He is pulled into the mortal world and leads him into his future.

The scrolls say that life began when the threads separated, and searched for each other. Paranormal’s were given mates, so one should expect the gods to be given too. However their heads are shoved so far up their own asses that they do not believe. That is about to be proven wrong.

Fascinating story with just a hint of dark tones to it. Pretty unique names given to them as well. I liked the danger and excitement that these stories have in them, but this one needed a bit extra kick to it, which it did not have. Other than that, this story pretty much rocked. I am not sure about being mated to the God of Death, but figure it was a perfect beginning to a new series.

I enjoyed it quite a bit and look forward to watching the other Gods go down, so to speak. It is a very fun story and I can guarantee that you will enjoy it also.

His old friend, Colonel Clyde Aldrich, wants to protect Lev from entanglement with the scarred and emotionally volatile young soldier, but Lev cannot help the pull he feels toward Tank. Review: Tanks life takes a turn when he is thrust into a secret alien base. Not one who is new to the strange Tank learns that everything he thought he knew was wrong. I liked the story. It has all sorts of twists and turns that delve further into the aliens and what they are up to.

The aliens themselves are not that different from humans. You have your good ones and bad ones. The slave ships were horrifying for the humans they had captured. These things were mentioned but not in deep detail.

Overall I found the characters in the story complex at times yet intriguing. They all added to the story in some way or another. The biggest shock was about Tank himself. But, I won’t spoil what all happens for the readers. Needless to say it was an adventurous, action packed, and mysterious story that captures your imagination and attention from the start.

Good read.

Review: An amazing story of deceit, betrayal and secrets galore. I absolutely loved Gabe and Sūnder. Sūnder’s story is so sad. His mother at birth wants to put him to death for being a male as faeborn males are supposedly dangerous. Gabe for his part never knew his heritage.

This is a carefully woven story with a lot of twists and turns and many factors coming into to play that simply fascinated me. I was intrigued by the many species and their roles throughout.

I absolutely hated Talia, Sūnder’s mother, she seemed like a spoiled brat who gave no thought for anyone’s well being except for her own. The lengths she went to achieve her place were despicable to say the least. I felt so bad for Sūnder for the way she treated him throughout.

I am so looking forward to reading more about the characters already introduced and seeing how they all turn out as well as the dealings with the aftermath of the faeborn males.

Highly recommended.

Review:  Every once in a while you come across a story that will just leave you brain dead.  You have no clue what you just read nor do you want to know.

Ledger is a private eye who is also a wolf shifter.  He has the hots for one sexy man, Jared.  Jared is a famous drag queen who has a very freaky woman stalking his ass.  The thing is that freaky woman is an alien and works for another freaky alien.  Things between the two men do start to heat up though.

Now this story did have potential but it failed quite nicely.  You start to get this story and it just seems to go sideways.  In my opinion it just seemed like a lot of filler to make words.  It would have been a cute story had there actually been a true story to read.  I can’t say that I would love to read another story by this author, because if they follow this same line, then the answer would be nope.

I hate to admit it but this book was not my idea of fun.  Too bad because it could have been amazing.

Review: Let me start by saying this story was complex. The terminology used in it confused me at times but never the less I understand the nature of what it meant the further I read. A glossary would have been nice though to have a reference to look at. So much takes place in this book there is no way I can cover every character and twist in the review.

The Countermind agency is tasked with keeping psychics from using their abilities in an unlawful way by any means necessary, including reprogramming. This is done by using a telepath. What I found strange that they use other telepaths to scan minds in the guise of looking for rogues. Yet it is against the law for other telepaths to do the same.

There was an overabundance of information throughout this story. So much so that I had to continuously stop and restart reading. I found Jack’s character to be without emotions and cold at times. He seemed almost inhuman. But he thawed the further I read and started thinking for himself at the end.

Alan makes his living as a thief. He’s extremely smart and cunning for his age. There is a massive mystery surrounding who he is which I will not go into less I spoil it for other readers. Arissa is a Countermind agent in training who is a powerful telepath. Zheng is the head of Countermind and most defiantly is not who he seems.

There is abundance of mystery, adventure, deceit, betrayal and drama throughout. All these ingredients and characters made for a great read with plenty of twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued

Blurb: Family is worth fighting for—and family doesn’t always mean blood.

No one knows what calamity poisoned the earth and decimated the human population, but living close to the toxic ground means illness and death. Justin is determined to keep his twin sister and younger brother from that fate—no matter what he has to do. To earn enough to keep his family safe in a high-rise, Justin enlists in a deadly sport called Shadow Fray. He quickly finds himself in over his head, especially when he is scheduled to face the most dangerous player.

Hale—who competes as Black Jim—knows he won’t be on top forever, despite his skills. He fights for a better life for his daughter, but his time is running out as Shadow Fray becomes increasingly lethal. Something about the newest fighter intrigues him, but does he dare defy his masters to investigate? Justin and Hale will clash in the ring, while beyond it the powerful elite and the crumbling world seem determined to keep them apart. If they can find common ground, they might have a chance to fight for their futures.

Review: This book was intense. It has fighting to the extreme in it. So be advised of that. It’s brutal and gory.

Shadow Fray is a no holds bar fight ring that never stays in one place. Fighters are anonymous when they fight. The bosses do not care if they die in the ring either. I found that even though this story is no so much a romance as it is a survival in a time when things are not so great.

The main character’s, Hale, who fights as Black Jim and is known in the fighting world for his impressive winning streak fights for his daughters wellbeing. Justin, a beginner to the scene, has aligned himself with the wrong handler who really does not care anything about him except the money he brings in. But Justin is fighting for his family to have a better life.

I really liked the explanation of the epidemic that tore the wold apart and found it intriguing that no one could actually walk on the ground due to the contamination. As a result all the population that is left has to live in high rises.

I don’t want to give away too much but I will say I loved the plot as it was more than fights. The rules to this new earth are downright scary. At times it seemed that civilization went backwards instead of forward. The mystery surrounding the bosses was intriguing. It’s truly a well written story about two men trying to survive any and all dangers.

Fantastic read.

Review: I loved this amazing story from start to finish. Spine-tingling and exciting this story takes the reader into a journey about finding the truth, facing danger and overcoming almost unstoppable odds. Zach, a doctor, treats Raven, a man brought in beaten severely. Raven is untrustworthy of everyone but Zach with good reason.

As the story continues we discover a sinister plan to eradicate all those who oppose the government regarding the aliens. The aliens themselves broke my heart as they have not done anything wrong. They are only trying to get home. But since the government told all that the original invasion, which was not an invasion, was taken care of they have to find the remaining alien children left behind and do away with them.

Raven intrigue me from the start. He was unique in some of abilities and I found him fascinating. Zach was definitely a huge payer in helping the aliens as he was fighting for the truth. When all is finally revealed I was awestruck at the deception the government went to.

You have to read this story it was so good. I could not put it down until the very end. Highly recommended.

Review: Welliver is on the mission to earth to scout out a safe place to live. He is super smart and knows it. When things go bad he is the one called on to fix the problem. Case in point when the creatures attack the ship. Unfortunately Welliver is too far away and has no chance getting to the safety of the ship so he takes off into the unknown. About to be attacked. A sexy, naked man comes to the rescue and saves Welliver from being eaten.

Beast has been alone on earth since the prison was deserted twenty years before. He cannot remember his name but he does know that he wants Welliver. Things progress nicely between these two.

I loved this book. Beast is dangerous and sexy a definite plus for me. Welliver is smart and handsome. I loved how Welliver went through the system and discovered who Beast was. The interactions between these two were hot.

Amazing and fascinating read from start to finish. Highly recommended.
