Ari McKay

You can run…

After losing his younger sister to cancer, fashion photographer Evan St. John tries to outrun his pain, leaving New York for the excitement of Paris. His talent and striking good looks bring him to the attention of Elizabeth Nadasdy, the elegant and powerful owner of House of Nadasdy. Evan is thrilled at the opportunity to work for such a prestigious designer, but he soon discovers Elizabeth wants more than his talent. Beneath the beautiful mask she presents to the world lurks the evil of a vampire whose lust for beauty is surpassed only by her thirst for blood.

Evan’s life is shattered when Elizabeth turns him into one of her “children.” Unable to bear what he has become, he flees to New York to find his best friend, police officer Will Trask. The one person who might be able to help him.

But you can’t hide…

Together, Evan and Will find themselves drawn deeper into a strange world they never knew existed. Standing against the vampires are the theriomorphs, shapeshifters who serve as the guardians of Gaia, the embodiment of all life on earth. Though sworn to eradicate every vampire, Marielle Du Lac, the leader of the theriomorphs, offers them a bargain. If they help bring down Elizabeth, her people will try to find a way to restore Evan to life.

Caught up in an ancient war between two powerful supernatural forces, Evan and Will must choose sides, because if they are to have any chance of a future together, they must destroy Elizabeth Nadasdy before she destroys them.

Blurb: When Aaron finds Mavis, an emaciated and shy Boston terrier, at a pet adoption fair, his heart goes out to her—completely.

When Christian, manning the adoption fair for the Humane Society that autumn Saturday, finds Aaron, his heart goes out to him—completely.

This is a story about embracing love, whether it’s for someone who walks on four legs or on two. Mavis’s journey back to wholeness and finding her forever home parallels the story of two men discovering each other at the perfect moment—a moment that defies logic, propriety, and common sense. But when did love ever follow a rational course?

Review: He lost his boyfriend, his car and his home. Now he is living with his nutty sister who is trying to talk him into adopting a pet. When he meets Mavis, his heart just says this is the perfect dog. Mavis is a cute Boston terrier who has been abused. To top it off the cute guy from the Humane Society might just be willing to help him.

I will say that at first I thought his sister was pretty cool, but that did not last long. She is a royal bitch, if I must say so. But the guys together, well they rocked. It is a cute little story made even better with a dog. I think the author could have given it a better ending but it was still pretty good. Felt like a longer story but it turned out to be perfect for a break time read.

I will admit that it is not one of those stories I would read more than once though. It is still a pretty nice story with some cuteness to it. I would recommend it.

Blurb: When Jeff agreed to be the sperm donor to his best friend Beth, he never expected a tragedy to leave his newborn and three-year-old motherless. Beth’s loss has totally thrown his life into chaos: his lover has left him, his house isn’t anywhere near childproof, and his boss feels the restaurant has been patient enough with Jeff’s time off.

Donny has always known he wanted to work with kids, and he just finished his degree in early childhood education. He didn’t count on the prejudice he’d face as not only a male nanny, but a gay one at that. Job-hunting has been frustrating to say the least, so when he knocks on Jeff’s door and is greeted by the sounds of things breaking and a pair of screaming children, he thinks maybe he can begin this particular interview with a trial by fire.

Becoming the nanny to Jeff’s children might be a dream come true for Danny and exactly what Jeff needs, but are either of them ready to really be a family?

Review: Four weeks ago, his best friend was happy with her two little ones. Then tragic happened, and Jeff was now raising her children. He had been the sperm donor for his best friend Beth, and now his life has gone crazy. His boyfriend of over seven years decided he didn’t want to be an instant father and took off. He was in desperate need of help.

Donny is one hell of a good man. He loves children and just wanted to be a nanny to a nice family. His only problem was he was male and gay, something noone seemed to want to hire. That is until Jeff and his little family. The man needed his help and he just might have found his own family to love. That is until danger shows up and now their lives are in danger.

This is one of those stories that I can see myself reading more than once. It is a great story but beware you will need tissues. It was very intriquing, exciting and just a great read. I love how this author just puts together a story that makes it seem like you are right there with them all. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. This is one story that gave me everything I could ask for in a story.

I had a blast reading it and can’t wait to read more by this author. I would definitely recommend this book.

Under Pressure

Sonny and MJ’s retirement may be in jeopardy, but at least they’re together on a new boat—with no annoying hostages. Then Cowboy, MJ’s old friend, gets in touch, bringing with him a host of complications, including Professor Duncan, who has ties to the Program. A call for help from Paddy sets them all on a collision course with a deadly specter from the past. As MJ makes his plans, Sonny is shaken by the possibility of losing everything.

Walking on the Sun

Sonny is determined to raise hell to hunt for MJ—problem is, will MJ know anyone, or himself, once they catch up to him? Neil and Paddy are healing but reluctantly join the effort, as Cowboy and Duncan help Sonny prepare for a showdown. Sonny might be ragged, but he’s MJ’s hero, and he is not about to give up on the most important thing in his life, even if it kills him. Will everyone survive the last epic battle, or will they go out in a blaze of glory?

For the Living by L.A. Witt ~ Audiobook

Title: For the Living

Author: L.A. Witt

Narrator: Charlie David

Length: 8 hrs, 4 mins

Publisher: Lori Witt

Heat Level: Moderate

Blurb: For the last year, Jay Warren has struggled to find the nerve to tell his wife he’s gay. Every time he gets the chance, though, he freezes up. He’s ashamed of hiding it all this time, he doesn’t want to hurt her, and the guilt has been almost unbearable.

When his wife dies suddenly, Jay’s conscience threatens to eat him alive.

Funeral director Scott Lawson deals with the bereaved every day, and he’s all too familiar with the inside of the closet. He offers Jay some much-needed compassion and understanding, and from that connection comes a friendship that quickly – perhaps too quickly – turns into something more.

But are grief, guilt, and loneliness the only things tying them together? Or, will Scott get fed up with being used as an emotional crutch before Jay realizes what he has?

Review: Not going to lie, this was a difficult book for me to get through. It wasn’t so much the story, I enjoyed the story and have enjoyed similar story lines immensely in the past. It is most like a combination of factors, which I will explain. I will try not to be too negative in my review because there was definitely a number of elements that I did enjoyed and allowed me to finish the book instead of just quitting.

For me L.A Witt is not on my go to author list, in fact her books are very much hit or miss and half the time if it’s a miss I can’t pinpoint exactly why. Unfortunately, For the living is one of those books.

What you read in the blurb is what you get in the book, so no big surprises there. One of the problems I had with this book was probably the amount of angst – I’m not a massive fan of angsty books – and another problem is that the story was a tad slow. I think normally I would have been ok with slow for the past part but combined with mid-level angst I was sorely tempted to skip parts (in fact, I will admit, I skipped the end of some chapters to move along a bit).

However, despite that, the story itself is more than pleasing for me. I liked reading about the sweet romance between Jay Warren and Scott Lawson. Jay has been battling his inner demons where his sexuality is concerned for some time now. When he had finally gathered the courage to tell his wife, he loses her. That is the tragedy at the center of this story and the grief and guilt is almost crippling. Scott is a funeral director, working in the family business. He meets and befriends Jay, but before anything can happen Jay has A LOT of baggage to work through.

In a lot of ways, the story is predictable and yet I don’t consider it a bad thing, it makes the difficult story line and feelings a lot easier to enjoy. Additionally, despite Jay being an (understandably) angsty arsehole at times, it was so easy to relate to him and Scott. In fact, Scott was such a sweetie and fell in love with him.

A quick note on the narration, it was, to put a fine point on it, wonderful. This was the first audio book I’ve heard narrated by Charlie David and I really enjoyed the different tones he was able to add to the book. I have to admit, if I had been reading this book it could have very potentially been a DNF. I’ve never heard any of Charlie David’s work before but he is certainly a narrator I wouldn’t mind hearing again.

Blurb: Can they survive the off-season and keep from striking out?

Baseball player Brett must get rehabilitation for his shoulder if he wants another season in the Major League. He and his partner, Benj, take off to the boonies to stay with physical therapist Ralph, a tough-talking, routine-setting guy, and Jean, Ralph’s Cajun lover, who cooks as well as he loves.

Brett and Ralph butt heads from the beginning. Ralph wants Brett to be more in touch with his feelings; Brett wants Ralph to give him his therapy and leave him alone. Benj and Jean get along far better, with Jean showing Benj around the kitchen and reassuring him when things with Brett get strained.

Before Ralph can even begin to work on Brett’s shoulder, though, Brett faces an even more difficult physical challenge, one that does more than threaten his career. He and Benj have to work through some tough issues, making decisions that will affect the rest of their lives together. Their gradual friendship with Ralph and Jean helps them through the bad times, but even that might not be enough to pull them through.

Review: Brett injured his shoulder pretty bad and he might be looking at the end of his baseball career. He was a grouch at is best, but he had the best backing him up. His boyfriend was always there for him. Benji just wanted the man he loved to heal, but he worries quite a bit. Each day just seems to get harder and harder. Now they were going to go stay several months in the boondocks with a therapist and his lover, who just happens to be one hell of a cook.

Ralph and Jean have the best set up. Now they were looking at helping another couple. His goal is just to help them, but he does it in the only way he knows how. However he seems to buttheads with Brett from day one. Where as Jean is just like Benji, has such a big heart. Then another problem steps up, and it will take the three of them to get Brett back to his normal self. Even if it cost him his baseball career.

This is one of those stories that I can see myself reading more than once. It is a great story but beware you will need tissues. It was very intriquing, exciting and just a great read. I love how this author just puts together a story that makes it seem like you are right there with them all. It caught my attention from the start and kept it all the way to the end. Blurb: Devin thought fighting a war in Afghanistan had shown him the worst kind of horrors.

It turned out he was wrong.

A deadly virus has infected the world population, leaving only a few survivors and creating monsters. Devin is part of a group who have found refuge in a secure place. He risks his life daily to scavenge the cities and highways for food and supplies.

On one fateful venture, Devin finds a man with the potential to change the dark future of blood and heartbreak into one of hope and second chances.

He finds Noah Weber.

Purchase Link: Amazon US | Amazon UK

Review: Devin is part of a small group of survivors living in a prison after a deadly virus outbreak. On a scavenging trip, Devin comes across another survivor, Noah, who has managed to survive living out in the open, who the zombie bites doesn’t infect, and who could just be humanities savior. But the journey to survival is harsh, with blood, loss of life and an egomaniac leading the way. Will there be a future for any of them?

This is a very grim and bloody zombie story, which has a glimmer of hope and maybe developing new relationships after you have lost your whole world. Devin nearly lost everything when the virus struck, but with himself and his sister safe in one of the only safe places in the country, he at least has life. But, when he comes across another survivor he is made to face the fact that although he has life…he is not living. Noah lost everything when the virus struck, he has survived by himself since those first bloody days and now he has been dragged to ‘safety’ where they inject him and want his blood. The only one he trusts is Devin, but Devin holds him away at arm’s length. Can Noah crack the shell that Devin has built around him?

I really enjoyed this story as it has a slightly darker outlook on life, after a virus outbreak that turns the population into zombies. Both the characters of Devin and Noah are really well written, with both of them reacting differently to how the disaster has affected them. Devin draws into himself and continues on, because he has people relying on him. While Noah, grips life with both hands and tries to get as much joy as possible or it could just be that he is around humans who aren’t trying to eat him.

This isn’t a huge romantic, sex-filled story, far from it. It is a story of new hope and maybe new beginnings. It is a story of starting to lay old ghosts to rest and of a glimmer of happiness in the future. This story also isn’t for the faint hearted as it has some pretty gruesome scenes with lots of blood, some with characters we are just getting to know and we don’t get a hearts and flowers happy ending. What we get is the beginning of something that could be special, and a new hope for all humanity.

So, I am going to recommend this to those who love grisly zombie stories, finding the beginning of new love amid harrowing times, of an egomaniac who just hasn’t got a clue and of hope for the future.

As the two travel, Kellan learns of a group in Boston that may offer him a safe place and the opportunity to gain greater control of his abilities.

Only one problem: his stepfather has tracked him down and is out for revenge. And not everyone in the Boston group is happy to have Kellan there. Kellan isn’t going to be safe for long.

Review: Kellan is a transgender young man trying his best to keep his secret from everyone. But when one of his step fathers friends tries to assault Kellan he fights with everything in him to get away. As a result the step father is now after him for revenge.

While on the run Kellan is scared to trust anyone after the incident. All he knows is he wants to be safe. Along his journey to find safety he meets some people who he feels safe with but alas it is not. With others in the group not wanting him there and his step father closing in will Kellan ever find the safety he wants?

Compelling and gripping. My heart went out to Kellan at the unfairness that has been thrust on him due to the actions of one. I was glad when he met Shade and Shade protected him along the journey. The two seemed to be made for them. They travel far and wide trying to stay away from Kellan’s step dad.

Great read.

Together they follow the clues scattered across the Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness area and learn the bloodshed didn’t end with the car crash. As they get closer to solving the mystery, BJ must decide whether finding Lando will rescue the young man or place him directly in the path of those who want to harm him.

Review: This series involves our sexy P.I. and quite a bit of crazy charactes. Now this can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest reading in order. It gives you an insight into Private Investigator B.J.

This author was one of the first mystery authors that I came across that I truly enjoyed. He goes into a world that is full of deceit, lust, danger and even murder. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. I don’t normally read novels this long, but this one kept me on the edge of me seat. I just needed to know the answer to my many questions. And let me tell you the twist was never expected.

B.J. has taken on some creepy clients, but the latest one takes the tip. Alfano is a very wealthy wine mogul and has a missing son. He is also a homophobic asshat and swears that his son is just going through a stage. He want’s B.J. to locate him and bring him home. It sends him into quite a bit of New Mexico. Here he is looking for a gay kid with a boyfriend and a brigh orange porsche. With that kind of car one would stand out. To bad it was stolen and B.J. watches it crash and burn. Leads send him into some shady locations.

With shady locations, you find the perfect people to help you. To top it off, Lando’s brother wants to help. With killers a foot, two men dead, a missing young man, and a rich asshat, well B.J. is in for a long ride.

Now normally I go for romance stories, however this is a true and true murder mystery story. You get a little loving from our sexy character and the man he loves. But the story is based on the murder and mystery, which is a plus. This story was perfect in my eyes. Not to many authors get every bit and piece put together, this author does just that. It was fast flowing and had a tight story line.

Our main character, B.J., is a professional with an attitude of don’t mess with me. He hung up on the old fart when he called the first time, and then took the case. I never guessed who the killer was, or what he had done before that. I was also kind of glad to find out who did it, because that was one sick, well you can guess my next word. Now for the downside, there was much more details about locations and settings that was a bit of a headache to me. Other than that, this was a top rated story.

I had a blast reading it and can not wait to get my hands on the next book.

Can they survive the off-season and keep from striking out?
