by

E.J. Russell

Temp worker David Evans has been dreaming of Dr. Alun Kendrick ever since that one transcription job for him, because holy cats, that voice. Swoon. So when his agency offers him a position as Dr. Kendrick’s temporary office manager, David neglects to mention that he’s been permanently banished from offices. Because, forgiveness? Way easier than permission.

Alun Kendrick, former Queen’s Champion of Faerie’s Seelie Court, takes his job as a psychologist for Portland’s supernatural population extremely seriously. Secrecy is paramount: no non-supe can know of their existence. So when a gods-bedamned human shows up to replace his office manager, he intends to send the man packing. It shouldn’t be difficult—in the two hundred years since he was cursed, no human has ever failed to run screaming from his hideous face.

But cheeky David isn’t intimidated, and despite himself, Alun is drawn to David in a way that can only spell disaster: when fae consort with humans, it never ends well. And if the human has secrets of his own? The disaster might be greater than either of them could ever imagine.

Review: Oh my god was this book so good. Talon and his team are back when enhanced children start disappearing. Talon is not happy that Finn acts as bait to lure whoever is behind the kidnappings out.

While all this is going on Finn is getting upset with Talon as he feels Talon does not think he can do his job. With tensions mounting between the two disasters is sure to strike.

Talon’s abilities seem to grow when unexpectedly he starts being able to do what other team members can do. I swear there were twists and turns that had my head spinning but in a good way. There was no shortage of action, drama, suspense and mystery throughout.

I seriously love this amazing series. I cannot wait to read more about the others on the team as well. You have to read this series.

Highly recommended.

Anthony Craig is intrigued by Sebastian, finding him professional and attractive. He can’t help wondering about something—why Sebastian never dates the same man twice.

When several pregnant women die in maternity wards a few states away, their fetuses missing, the police are baffled at the strange circumstances surrounding their deaths. Could there be a serial killer on the loose?

As the number of deaths escalates, Sebastian suspects a monster of legend, rather than one of the human variety, is responsible. Sebastian knows he’s the only thing standing in evil’s way, but in order to save innocent lives, he must reveal his secret to Anthony. Will Sebastian’s revelation prove too much and drive Anthony away?

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: I liked the overall story but felt the horror element was a little lacking. For me horror implies feeling strong emotions that have me fearing what will happen next. This book did not do that for me. Probably because I have read too many Stephen King books.

Sebastian’s character was intriguing yet at times vague about who he really was. When the truth was revealed I was fascinated. Anthony was a doctor at the same hospital where Sebastian works. I was surprised he accepted Sebastian so easily after all was revealed. I was expecting some disbelief considering he is human.

The creature was a disgusting thing that never should have been allowed to live as long as it did. The action scenes were edge of your seat suspense as it let the reader know to what lengths the creature would go to survive. I did not understand the transfer of power from creature to human as that was not explained well so it left me scratching my head as to how it was done.

All in all it was a great story that had mystery, action and suspense that leaves the reader awaiting the outcome.

Blurb: An orphaned kitten may be the only witness to romance and the impossible.

Officer Alex Wolf responds to a lot of ‘paranormal’ calls that aren’t. Exotic pet birds aren’t monsters and unusual dog breeds aren’t aliens. It’s a good thing he likes the Animal Control officers, but he both yearns for and dreads those calls where he runs into ACO Jason Shen. Jason’s scent is so delicious that Wolf has a difficult time humaning around him.

Animal Control calls take a disturbing turn, though, when Wolf and his lizard-man partner, Krisk, discover the impossibly mummified bodies of rats and an unfortunate mother cat. The rescue of the cat’s sole surviving kitten not only gives Wolf more time with Jason, which is both perplexing and wonderful, but also leads to dangerous discoveries. Something inconceivable stalks the city and its officers of the law. Wolf has to figure out what it is before it can attack and drain the life from the people and the kitten he loves.

Review: This story is about Alex, a wolf who has more human traits than wolf. I loved his relationships with his adopted mother and his partner in the unit, Krisk. Alex struck me as a good guy who deserves the best.

However the so called romantic interest Jason I did not like. His attitude at times left a lot to be desired. I did not like his back and forth attitude with Alex nor did I appreciate the way he acted at Krash and Kory’s wedding.

I did see the attraction Alex felt for Jason and I was hoping he would move on from him. This was my least favorite book in the series so far. It was an o.k. read.

Holden Payne has it all . . . or so he thinks. As heir to the founder of the Community—an organization that finds, protects, and manages psychics—he’s rich, powerful, and treated like royalty. But after a series of disappearances and murders rock the Community, he’s branded the fall guy for the scandal and saddled with a babysitter.

Sixtus Rossi is a broad-shouldered, tattooed lumbersexual with a man bun and a steely gaze. He’s also an invulnerable—supposedly impervious to both psychic abilities and Holden’s charms. It’s a claim Holden takes as a challenge. Especially if sleeping with Six may help him learn whether the Community had more to do with the disappearances than they claimed.

As Holden uncovers the truth, he also finds himself getting in deep with the man sent to watch him. His plan to seduce Six for information leads to a connection so intense that some of Six’s shields come crashing down. And with that comes a frightening realization: Holden has to either stand by the Community that has given him everything, or abandon his old life to protect the people he loves.

Review:  Tray Ellis is a new author to me so I wasn’t too sure what to expect.  I grabbed it up because of the title, but I had not read the blurb for the book, which was my mistake.  I went in totally blind to what I was getting.  I will admit that if I had paid attention to the fact that it was an urban fantasy, I would have probably passed it up.

I have never heard of snakes that start fires, but damn if these ones don’t do that.  However that is what brings us into the story, but they were not the whole story.  Brandon is an arson investigation and was looking into who started the fire that almost killed a family.  He took the case because it was on the way to where him and Aran like to hike.

Aran is an artist and knew in his memory what kind of snakes they were.  It led him into remembering the folklore that his grandmother had told him about. Out on a hike, when it got dark Aran disappeared.  Brandon knew he needed Aran’s grandmother help to find him.  It led them into a world that he did not know existed.  A world in between or in this case side by side world.  A venture where he did not belong.  Now Aran needs to make a choice of which he wanted more.

I am sorry but this story was just way too weird for me.  I got it because of the fire starting snakes, not the other world.  It was easy to follow in reading but the story itself was too descriptive and strange to even get into.  The characters were hot, but there was no love story in the way one would think.  You could sense it between the men, but it was just weird.

This author has one hell of an imagination and it made me think of old legends.  However it also told me that I need to stay away from these types of books and to look at what I chose before grabbing it up.  I am sorry but this book was definitely not for me.

Review: Each book in The Oddities collection features Derwin and Elliot. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.

I have had the pleasure of reading J.T.’s first book in this series and when I heard this one was coming out, I just had to grab it.  The characters are quite unique and a very fresh idea.  I thought the characters were not only strong but you can feel the way they feel for those around them.  This story caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the very end.  I am usually not a fan of very long stories but this one was so exciting that I knew it would become a favorite real soon.

Derwin is an oddity and a bounty hunter.  He hunts those who cause pain and death, including other oddities and demons.  Three years ago his boyfriend was murdered and it took him that long to find out who did it.  He had finally solved his murder three weeks ago and was now embracing his life with Elliot.  Elliot was a rent boy and has his own oddity.  He can see visions from strong feelings.  Now he worked with Derwin and his boss.  He is also hiding from a gang lord that wants him for his very own.

Another friend in the office is scared for his missing son.  She asks Derwin for help and it leads him and Elliot in to some major danger.  For some more juicy details about this story, pick up the book.  Let’s just say it has some major kinky and hot sex scenes, danger, death, excitement, suspense and so much more.

I had a lot of fun reading this and can’t wait to see what other dangers these two sexy men can get into.  I loved the characters and their story just kept me on the edge of my seat.  I can guarantee that you will love this book.  I would definitely recommend it.

Blurb: Words damage more than just feelings as Carrington hunts feral books menacing the city.

When a ferocious book attacks Carrington at his own birthday party, he believes it’s an isolated incident. But similar books soon pop up all over town, menacing innocent people with harsh bits of poetry and blank verse that deliver damaging physical blows. It’s a frustrating case with too many variables and not enough answers, and the stakes go up with each attack.

With the help of his misfit squad mates at the 77th and the public library’s Rare Books Department, the missing pieces decrease but not Carrington’s vexations. His commanding officer rakes him over the coals at the beginning of every shift. His police partner has lost patience with what she sees as his delusional relationship choices and his inability to pick the right man in a vast field of two. City Hall demands that the books be stopped immediately. It’s enough to put a nutritionally challenged vampire off his skim blood.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: The Carr, a vampire who survives on skim blood, is challenged when it comes to a case involving books whose words actually hurt people. I have never read a book quite like this before so I found it fascinating. I could have done without his partners Amanda’s love interest, another female though.

Carr is fascinated by someone through most of the book then suddenly is interested in the consultant. I didn’t buy this relationship as most of it took place at the end and felt forced and rushed to me. However it was great to read.

The overall feel of the story is one of excitement as each element adds to the stories conclusion.

Great read.

Blurb: Violence has been Lochlann O’Connor’s companion since he was born into a family of old-school Irish terrorists. From there he is recruited into Alpha, a secret government agency dedicated to fighting terrorism—with extreme prejudice. Lochlann’s bravery, efficiency, ruthlessness, and the natural deadeye aim that lets him hit anything that moves, quickly make him one of the shadowy organization’s most valued operatives.

Cas Vega joins Alpha because it’s marginally better than a prison sentence. He’s a former drug cartel assassin—or at least that’s his story. But Lochlann is suspicious. Despite an irrational and overwhelming attraction to Cas, Lochlann has questions, and they soon lead to a deeper and deadlier mystery. What is Alpha’s true purpose, and why does it seem they want to eliminate Lochlann?

Lochlann and Cas must work together to get to the bottom of Alpha’s scheme and escape it—and all while Cas keeps secrets that could cost him his life if they’re revealed. But it’s not an alliance that can last. Duty turns the men into enemies, even while fate compels them into each other’s arms. Before they can contemplate which will prevail, they must figure out how to survive.

Reviewer: Shorty

Review: I loved this addition to the series however it was slightly different as Lochlann’s character never acknowledged the rage until the end which is different from the other books. This book focused on the present and glanced over the past. Lochlann is in a secret group called Alpha. He believes he on the good side.

Things become strange when he starts having doubts about the group. New recruits are brought in and Lochlann finds himself attracted to one named Cas. Cas was in with the drug cartel. But there is much more to this man that most see. Danger is all around and one misstep could mean both their lives when they decide to work together.

Mysterious, tense and at times has a menacing air about the story. I loved how the story was told and flowed. It felt as though I was actually there witnessing what was taking place. Both characters had secrets that were eventually revealed that added an element of mystery that I wanted to solve.

However, I feel as though the story is incomplete. The questions about who is Alpha remained unanswered as well as who is “cleaning up” afterwards. I felt disappointed in this regard but overall it was a great read.

Tyrell and Jeremy struggle to ignore their attraction to each other. But that becomes increasingly difficult as young people across the city start dying. Both teens realize they alone know the true cause of the tragedies—and have the ability to put a stop to them. They’re the city’s only chance to defeat the dark forces threatening it, but to succeed, they’ll need to find common ground and reconcile the desires they’re trying to deny.

Review: Love or Magic, which one can you believe in more?

Joe has only been out of Massage school for a short while and is now working as a massage therapist at Magic Touch Sports Spa. He wants to succeed at his new job, but with the demanding customers and his huge crush on Andre, the other massage therapist, it is becoming very difficult to do his job and to satisfy the customers. When one of the customers have had it with Joe’s massage and complains to his boss, Joe is given a ‘do better or else’ he knows that he will be fired if he doesn’t improve.

After work Andre promises to give Joe a few pointers to help improve his techniques. At the apartment, things get embarrassing for Joe and he leaves. On his way home he rescues a cat and the owner wants to reward Joe. Joe tells the lady about his failures at work, about his crush, and about his insecurities. The lady grants Joe one wish, and things start going great for Joe, his relationship is Andre, and his clients are praising him for his massages and booking him for repeats in advance.

Joe is wondering is all of this is happening because of one magic spell. I love this story and recommend it to anyone who want a short read.

Review: It has been several months since I read the first book in this series, so it was like a new experience for me.  This particular story is about the two main characters in book one and where they are now that Ben is not a vampire any longer.  When I read the blurb, it said recovering vampire, but in truth he is now human once more.  The characters are a bit off to me, but still pretty sweet.  In this story you find out more about Nate and let’s just say it is one big surprise.

Nate has talked Ben into coming back to his home town with him.  It is supposed to give him a break from what he had known before.  Ben gets to meet Nate’s brother Ethan and their mom.  Now that is one wacky family.  It also explains quite a bit about Nate.  The problem was there was a murder and Ethan is the main suspect.

Now the whole town is just down right creepy.  They are one of the most religious place’s ever and just because someone is off, it makes them evil.  And when there is evil around, you can figure out the type of people living there will react.  Ethan is a lover of plants, and is damn good at growing them.  He is closed off and really weird, but his brother is the exact opposite.  Nate is out going and funny as hell, in a way.  This murder might link back to, well I will let you find out when you read the story.  Let’s just say you are in for a big surprise.

It is a very long winded tale that I have to admit didn’t keep my attention like it should have.  I am afraid that I had to take a break from it for a bit.  It has a lot of description and details in it that just didn’t help me along.  It actually took several chapters before I got interested in finding out what else happens.  Other than that this book was a bigger hit with me then the first one was.  I do like the characters quite a bit and can’t wait to see what this author comes up with for the next book.

Blurb: Gabriel Ingram is running from his past. It’s common knowledge at the college where he teaches that he’s a former CIA technical analyst, but no one knows the things he really did—or about the rage and bloodlust that are his constant companions. He’s holding on to his normal life with both hands, but he knows someday he’ll lose his grip.

Lucas Craig is a social worker studying to become a family therapist. For reasons Lucas can’t understand, the normally reclusive Professor Ingram takes an interest in him, and Lucas secretly hopes their friendship might become more.

Then Eric, Lucas’s roommate, disappears. Lucas is frantic. The police are no help. With nowhere else to turn, Lucas begs Gabriel for his expertise.

What starts as a simple errand to help a friend becomes a journey into a violent world of gangs and human trafficking—one that will bring Gabriel face-to-face with the forces intent on stealing his soul. But Lucas might be the one who can save him—if Gabriel can get them out alive.

Review: I truly enjoyed this series until this book. Where was the action, danger and intense passion? Answer is nowhere. Professor Ingram is ex CIA. He has been living his life peacefully while keeping the killing rage under control.

Enter student Lucas. Lucas has secret fantasies for Gabriel but does not believe the professor sees him until Gabriel starts giving him coffee. The so called relationship felt forced to me. I mean Gabriel did not want anything to do with Lucas even after he went to him for help about his missing friend.

I was also disappointed by the lack of action when it came to saving the friend. It seemed over just as it began which was sad to me. I felt this story could have been so much better than it was.

Good read.
