Double Dealing

A Marriage of Inconvenience

by

Nicole Colville

Caught in a messy merger with the mounting pressure to close a multi-million dollar deal, business mogul Ryder Granger finds things are more hostile than the average takeover, but he’s not just interested in acquiring the lucrative Lyon coffee chain. He has an entirely more personal motive hidden beneath his cool exterior and designer suit.

Trace Lyon believes the merger with B&G could be the way out of the closet his strict Southern father keeps him locked in, but there’s one big problem. Ryder Granger is everything Trace wants, and everything his father despises. Two years ago, they shared one incredible night together, but despite the connection and the intense heat, both walked away.

With the deal falling through, Ryder brings an unexpected offer to the table — a more personal type of merger between the two rival families, one Trace is dead against. After all, an arranged marriage in New York in 2016… That could never work out. Taking control in the only way he can, Trace agrees to marry Ryder, but secretly plots to double deal both his father and Ryder. He just has to get this whole absurd wedding out of the way first and ignore how happy Ryder makes him feel.

There are questions he’s hesitant to ask, however. Is Skye a man or a woman? And, what does it mean that he doesn’t really care?

Previously published under the Confidential Encounters Anthology with 30,000 new additions to read.

(World of Love 02)
by

Peter Grover

Nature’s call of desire among golden fields and intoxicating red-lipped poppies seems to proclaim a path to love and healing in southern France. Yet Peter, an American university student struggling with self-doubt following a failed love affair, is determined never to be hurt again. While on a vacation with his widowed mother, Peter is smitten by Gaston, a handsome local baker. Gaston, less bold than Peter, is drawn to Peter as well but fearful of the loss of family esteem—particularly the respect of his cousin Mario, who looks up to Gaston. Their friendship grows into more as Peter continues to visit the bakery, but their increasing intimacy does not go unnoticed. The road to fulfillment becomes increasingly obscured, and internal doubts and external events spiral out of control. The arrival of a handsome stranger, suspicions of murder, and the threat of harm might spell the end of more than just their relationship.

Review:  The first thing I want to say about this story is that the cover was one of the best ones I have come across in a long time.  For me it just shows the heart in the two guys.  Now I have had the pleasure to read a couple of stories by this author but out of those that I have read this is my favorite one, but then again there are more to come.  However I really loved that it was the perfect Christmas story in a way.

Travis has been in love with Noah for over twenty years.  He has known Noah and his family since he was a small child, when he needs a safe haven to heal from his physical as well as mental injuries caused by his family.  Noah’s mother considered him one of hers.

Noah has always wanted Travis but never thought he could since he was the little brother in the family.  It wasn’t until Travis was injured that he saw the love the man had for him there.  Now all they had to do is to tell the family, or not.  Wonder what mama is going to say, well you will just have to read the story.

I got a kick out of this and Mama really needed a smack at Christmas time.  However I can understand the feeling that comes from change.  Hard to deal with it sometimes.  This story was full of heart and joy, not to mention some hot sex.  I loved reading it and can honestly say that it is one that will be read for many Christmas to come.

To Thomas’s dismay, Branmoor Hall is no longer the joyful home he remembers from his childhood, and his four-year-old niece has no idea what Christmas is.

Determined to bring some seasonal cheer back to the gloomy estate, Thomas must confront his tyrannical father, salvage a brother lost in his own misery, and attempt to fight off his father’s machinations.

Review:  I need to pay attention to certain things when picking out a story or letting a friend pick out my stories.  I have never really been a fan of historicals in any country although the cover is cute.  It is the time period itself that I just don’t get and never probably will get.  When people can’t be who they truly are meant to be.

Thomas has come home to fulfil a debt to his best friend.  When he does he realizes that his home has become something else.  His own niece has no idea what Christmas is let alone what it’s about.  She was still morning the mother she never really knew.  Then there is the fact that he is starting to have feelings for Andrew.  He is slowly realizing who he truly is.

I am afraid that I only really skimmed this story.  I just couldn’t get into it and that was my fault for not realizing it was a historical romance and times were different.  Times when it could cost them everything if they chose to be with each other.  Now other than it not being for me, the story is a very catchy love story about finding out who they are in a sense.  I did enjoy the end of the story though and how Thomas’s father even if it was through manipulation was also an olive branch.

I would definitely recommend this story if you love a good historical romance.

1907, twenty years into the zombie Plague

Reuben is a baker living in the slums of London, sharing a room with his father and an extended family of cockroaches. Poor, uneducated, and repressing all his sexual desires, he leads a life of misery, only sometimes sprinkled with gin and a rough tumble in a filthy back alley.

But when he is abducted into Bylondon to be the slave of a wealthy crime family member named Erik Dal, his values are put to the test. His new master is obsessed with all things equestrian, and Reuben soon learns that if he obeys and performs well as Erik’s horse, he might just get everything he yearns for: pampering, foods he never even dreamed of, and shameless sex with a demonically handsome young man in leather riding boots.

As Copper, Erik’s treasured dun stallion, Reuben must submit to his new master’s obscene fancy of possessing another man completely. That is, if he yearns for treats and not the lick of a riding crop. Fake tails, harnesses, and a new haircut to his ginger mane help Reuben transform into Copper, but the fear of losing his dignity in the eyes of society might just prove to be a bigger restraint than any bit, bridle, or handcuffs.

All that for the small price of his freedom. Though at times, Reuben feels it’s his soul that Erik is after instead.

Review: Copper Horse: Fear ♥♥♥♥ 3.75 Hearts

I really did not know how to feel about this story of Reuben, a poor baker, who is taken advantage of by a manipulative man, Erik, who makes him his pet horse. This was serious business not just some role play scenario. I found myself angry on Reuben’s behalf and wondered what Erik’s problem was.

We see throughout Reuben’s introduction on being a pony with all that entails.

The Copper Horse: Pride ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Erik is fighting his feelings for Reuben as Reuben is trying to be better than he was in the first book. I felt that Erik was changing for the better. I liked him more in this book than I did in the previous story. The mens feelings for one another become more pronounced in this addition.

Jack’s Punishment ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts

Jack’s punishment for helping Copper try to escape is being sent to the kitchen in Mr. Fry’s hands. Unbeknownst to Jack Mr. Fry has wanted Jack since he saw him. Jack feels the same.

It was a hot little read with plenty of steam. I really loved how these two seemed to melt the other.

The Copper Horse: Love ♥♥♥♥♥ 4 ½ Hearts

Erik is betrayed and so flees with Reuben to London. With both of their lives uprooted both do some heavy soul searching and come to terms with their new lives. Erik has to put his trust into people who are friends but is still leery of them and rightly so after what happened. Reuben is confronted with the fact that Erik lied to him.

Emotional yet engaging I truly liked this story. I really felt for these two men and felt their emotions throughout.

All in all it was an interesting boxed set although I did not read the m/f story.

In the meantime, he has to put aside his fears and help his friends find rogue vampires – not exactly a cure for stress.

Prince Alexi Vandermot is getting more than a little pissed off at his coven leader. There are rogue vampires in town and he’s ready to hunt them down. The problem is, his cousin keeps saying no. Things aren’t improved when the police come to call, bringing a consultant with them. Shifters are one thing, but Alexi is floored to find the consultant is his mate…human, scared and straight.

When the rogues are found to have family ties to the coven and one of them fancies a bite out of Trent, the coven and the pack have to work together to make sure the body count doesn’t get any higher. Review:  Each book in the Stockton Wolves Series collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading this series in sequential order.

I started reading romance stories at the age of twelve and was always intrigued by the worlds that authors can come up with. Then a few years ago I read my first gay romance and I decided that there was just something about them that I liked more. I, like many, have favorites that we always follow and Lisa Oliver is one of those authors for me. There is just something about the worlds that she creates that keeps me captivated throughout the whole entire book. So much so that when a new book comes out, I must always start reading the very first book that leads up to this one.

I love how there is a serious tone to it, but that it is equally matched with humor. I can’t stand a book that has no humor in it; I would rather be laughing then just sitting there. I love how our shifters and vampires are so protective of their mates, yet let their mates kick ass with them, otherwise well you know where they will be for the night.  There is always lust, love, hot sex and a good amount of danger placed in these stories that keeps my attention as well.

Trent Summers belongs to the pack, even though he is a human.  He had once been a police detective until he was stabbed by a rogue shifter.  Now he has panic attacks and trouble with anxiety.  However Mace and the others are very protective of each other.  He has never been with a man and never thought he would be.  However he had told Mace at one time, that if fate decided to give him one he would jump on it.  He just had not counted on that male to be a very big vampire.

Alexi is the second in command at his coven, and his leader is being a dumbass when it comes to humans.  Yet Hugh’s own mate was a human.  Now there are rogue vampires draining humans and Alexi has an idea of who it is.  However on the first meeting of the shifters he realizes the human is his mate.  Protecting his mate is his top priority… that is if his mate doesn’t kick him in the ass first.

Watch out for Kalel and his hat fetish, and oh let’s not forget our dear police Captain, well you will just have to read and see.  To me there is nothing better than a good romance, but when it is a paranormal then it hits higher marks to me.   I can honestly tell you that this is going to be one of those types of series that you can’t put down and have to read more than once. It is the perfect story for me and gave me all that I needed.

I love the way all the feelings they felt was involved in this story. I had a blast reading it and I can’t wait to read the next story. When Lisa puts out a book I am usually there to eat them up. I would definitely recommend reading this book. Trust me it will keep you laughing, crying, loving and having fun.

Review: Back in a time when it was never allowed two men loved each other deeply. Time when marriages were arranged and William was forced to marry a woman.  A woman with a secret that would destroy the two men.  For two hundred years he was forced to roam the world waiting for the man he loved to find him.  Want to know more, read the book.

I have always gotten a kick out of Meg’s stories and this one was no different.  I do hope that she turns this one into a longer story with more details and fun times though.  I hope that the evil witch got what she deserved in the end.  I had fun reading this and can guarantee that you will too.

A house exchange between two single men leads to a romantic new life for both of them.

Oliver and Kyle live thousands of miles apart, but each needs a break from his current life and love. Enter the Cloud B&B website, a wonderful new way to exchange homes for the holiday. They both muster their courage, and decide to visit another continent for Christmas.

In the UK, Oliver has been pining after his neighbour for far too long, living his comfortable but quiet life in a town in the New Forest. When his crush moves on in the worst possible way, Oliver is seduced by the chance to stay in fun-loving, sunny Miami.

In Miami, Kyle is a club owning workaholic, who suddenly discovers the man he lives with has been unfaithful. Yet again. As consolation, Kyle is tempted to see first hand the picture book charm of the New Forest in winter.

Both of them find not just a new setting but a new romance. Oliver makes a big effort to shed his inhibitions and meets a musician, Mark, who plays in the Florida bars, and who may be just as cautious and polite as Oliver in making the first move.

And while Kyle’s trying to come to terms with England’s very different culture—and food!—he’s charmed by Oliver’s best friend Edward, who’s bold and sexy, but secretive.

Will Oliver take the leap of faith and encourage a lover who can and will give the commitment he deserves? And will Kyle find a man who can be loyal and also offer Kyle the family life he needs?

Review: Jake had lost the man he loved as well as his little sister to a horrible car accident during a storm.  Now time has passed, but his memories have not left him.  When another accident happens in front of him, he is thrown back into the past.  However his future is looking right at him.  To figure out that jumbled mess, you really need to read this story.  I think you will get a kick out of Eli.

This was a very sweet story about a second chance at love.  I would say that Santa has given him the present of his life.  I really did like this story quite a bit.  For such a short story it has a lot of meat to it.  I enjoyed it so much that it will probably be a Christmas thing for me to read it more than once.

The boys are back and fiercer than ever!

“We were a unit tonight, moving as one. Even apart, we are deadly, but when combined – we are f**kin’ unstoppable.” ~~ God ~~

Atlanta’s notorious narcotics task force is at it again. They are stronger, bigger, and better than ever. Especially when a city councilman sends RECON Marine, Edwin Steele – who’s been blacklisted from his Oakland department – to join the team. God and Day weren’t recruiting. They have a lot on their plates, like the fact they’re supposed to be getting married soon. They don’t have the time or the patience to integrate a decorated war hero with a slight chip on his shoulder into their well-oiled machine.

A hothead that’s uncontrollable and terrible with authority… but wasn’t that their team motto?

Steele was ready to hang up his shield. He was done fighting with bigoted bastards that couldn’t respect the job. He was good at fighting; he just needed the right team to fight with. When his uncle – City Councilman, Rasmus Steele – shows him a video of God’s team in action, he knows right away, it’s where his nephew belongs in order to restore his faith.

Steele pointed to the driver, a behemoth of a man wielding those massive firearms like a true beast… like a soldier. “And him. Who the hell is he?”

“That’s your new boss. Lieutenant Cashel Godfrey… they call him… God.”

Steele was skeptical about his new placement, but when he meets God’s technology specialist/computer genius, “Tech,” he’s willing to give it his all, and he definitely shows and proves.

Tech is stunning. His sweater vest and khakis, a stark contrast to the blue-jeaned roughnecks he works with. A beautiful sheep amongst the wolves. Steel thinks there’s no way the brilliant man would be interested in a hardhead like him, but Tech has a few badass hidden talents of his own and manages to surprise him… surprise all of them.

This story is a part of a series but can stand alone. It does not end on a cliffhanger and has a HEA. There are no multiple pairings in this novel.

Tyler McCall has made mistakes. He was a teacher—before he fell for a student in his school. That misstep cost him his job and everything he’d worked for. He moved to the Black Hills of Wyoming to start his life over, and he’s happy working at the Big Rock Inn near Devils Tower.

Linden Bourne, a no-nonsense FBI agent Tyler had met before, returns to Wyoming hot on the trail of a killer. The previously unexplored attraction between them grows—which is good considering they’ll be spending a lot of time together when a blizzard strands them at the inn. Cut off from the outside world, with no power, they’ll need to rely on their wits and each other to survive.

Especially when it becomes clear they’re not alone—and the danger they face comes from more than the elements.

Circles series blurb:

Every life is a circle, and sometimes those circles connect and overlap in unexpected ways, even if the patterns they form aren’t obvious at first glance.

Past and present, from the wilderness to small towns and cities, the greedy and evil seek to exploit the vulnerable. The brave men of law enforcement fight to protect the innocent and punish the guilty—but they’re not alone. Men from all walks of life are called to stand beside them and solve these mysteries. Along the way, lives intertwine as couples are reminded that one thing makes the struggle worthwhile: love.

Li Liang has found a berth to suit her: chief pilot and first officer of the all-female crew of an old space freighter, the Sappho. Then one ordinary, unremarkable morning, Liang retunes the Sappho’s communications systems just in time to catch the breathless, terrible accounts from Mars of the total destruction of Earth.

Earth’s a cinder. The unknown alien race that destroyed it has left Mars, too, in flames and is ravening outward from the solar system, devouring every human colony on the way.

Liang’s one of the few survivors, racing ahead of the Devourers, rescuing as many frightened, shocked people as she can. Will Liang and the pitiful remnants of humanity find a new haven, somewhere to start again? Or will she, too, echo the dreadful last message coming out of their dead home?

They’re coming. Oh God, they’re coming.

About Passing Shadows

Man is like a mere breath; His days are like a passing shadow.
Psalm 144:4

Passing Shadows is a trilogy of short stories with a lesbian main character, Li Liang, who is one of the sole surviving witnesses of the destruction of Earth. The stories tell of the beginning of a long exodus across the galaxy looking for a haven where mankind can start again.

Flynn wants him back, but he can see that Mac rescued him and loves him just as much as he does. Mac wants to keep the dog, and he can imagine how heartbreaking losing him would be—but that’s just what Flynn experienced.

The 12 Days of Hipster

(Sequel to Bowl Full of Cherries)

Last Christmas, Tyler Lang accidentally accepted David Griffith’s invitation for dinner. Yes, it was an accident. See, hipster (don’t call him that!) Tyler doesn’t date guys, and even if he did, he certainly doesn’t date jocks. A rude and hasty exit right when the date was getting good left things awkward between them.

David Griffith isn’t really a jock. Well, he’s a former athlete who loves sports, but “jock” has a certain connotation that doesn’t quite fit the intelligent, hardworking store owner. A jock wouldn’t have given Tyler Lang the time of day. But even after that little, ahem, stunt with the fire escape, David can’t stop thinking about the hipster a year later. Which would be fine if fate didn’t keep butting her nose into their business, making it impossible for the jock and the hipster to avoid each other this Christmas.

A hilarious holiday romp, set to the music of the Winter Sounds.

Blurb: Sparks ignite and tempers flare when a sexy, optimistic wedding planner, moves his business in across the hall from a jilted, divorce lawyer’s practice.

“Look smart ass. This is the last time I’m going to remind you about breaking sections of the lease. If there’s a next time, I won’t stop until you and your frilly, white wedding shit is thrown out of here. Do you got it?!”

Wylde looked in Jacob’s pained eyes and answered in his deep voice. “Yeah, counselor. I got it.”

From high school, up until he became a successful attorney Jacob Snowden was convinced that love had it out for him. “Everyone left,” were the words he lived by. His mother, his high school sweetheart, his father, and his fiancé, all left Jacob just when he felt it was safe to let down his guard. Not any longer. Jacob was a determined man, set at keeping people at a distance. If his six foot one, military-made body didn’t scare people off, his permanent scowl surely did. At almost forty, Jacob’s social life was non-existent, but he told himself his work fulfilled him. He helped people get out of their loveless marriages. Jacob Snowden was one of the best divorce lawyers on the east coast and was damn proud of it. So, imagine his disdain when a wedding planner moves into the suite directly adjacent to his… an insanely masculine, male wedding planner.

Wylde Sterling had made quite a name for himself in his hometown of Roanoke, Virginia, working for a wedding planner that catered to the elite. He was known for his charm and impeccable taste. Yep, he was incredible at giving couples the wedding of their dreams. But he wanted nothing more than to plan his own. After striking out in love more times than he cared to admit, Wylde decided to start his own business in a new city, hoping Richmond would give him a fresh start. Things started out wonderfully – until he started to piss off the angry divorce attorney next door.

Wylde could see past Jacob’s mean scowl, knowing there was a reason for it. It was the man’s defense mechanism, his means of keeping people away. Everything in Wylde told him to stay away, but he believed Jacob just needed to meet a man who had been hurt as badly as he had.

Review: The very first thing I am going to say about this book is that the cover rocked.  It made the book stand out and grabbed my attention right off the bat.  Then there is the blurb, it made the story more striking then even the cover.  I haven’t read to many stories by this author and can’t figure out why I haven’t.

Jacob’s mother took off, his father was a drunk and his high school boyfriend did not stand beside him when he found out that he wasn’t going to be able to go to the college they had chosen.  That was the start of what made him the way he was.  Bitter, mean and downright nasty sometimes, but it made him one hell of a good divorce attorney.  That is until Wylde moved in next door.

Wylde looked like a tough, powerful football player, but he was the best wedding planner ever.  He loved to watch love bloom and to go forward.  He loved to give happy couples the best days of their lives. Then he meets a man who thinks he destroys love and sets out to prove him wrong.

Wylde starts off by offering support but you can feel the heat coming from these two men.  I love how Jacob tries his hardest to ignore it, but you know when the bug bites.  This has a serious tone to it, but there is quite a bit of humor lurking in the background.  It also has some very sad moments, but there are also a lot of smiles there.  I wasn’t sure when I started it, because it is a little more drawn out then I usually like, however I have to tell you that this story made me believe in love again.  Well maybe for our sexy characters love happens.  I would definitely recommend this story and I will be checking out the rest of this authors work.

Review: I love this riveting series so much. This book continues from the last as Eli reels from the events that took place. He struggles to move forward as secrets are revealed and characters that were mentioned are brought to a brighter spotlight. As per usual this addition is spellbinding and jaw dropping.

It was interesting to see that even though Eli is in all the books we really did not know who he truly was. I was glad to see questions I had throughout the series were answered in startlingly clarity. This is truly a wonderful gripping book.

Filled with twists and turns that you gasping and others that leave tears in your eyes this story packs a punch. I loved the history and timeline even though it was an ugly period it was still fascinating to see it all play out in the authors writing.

I will give no spoilers only say that to read the book. Highly recommended.

Review:  Susan Laine has a wonderful imagination and can create some unique worlds for her stories.  Although I must admit this is definitely unique.  I wasn’t to sure about it, although I did expected Jack’s attitude, I couldn’t figure out Rudy.  It is a sure fire way to catch ones attention and is a delightful Christmas story, if not a bit weird.

Jack Frost is nipping at your toes and has an attitude to boot.  He is alone because he chooses it.  Then you have Rudy, who is a reindeer shifter, he is treated like the plague until Christmas time so he spends most of his life alone but not by choice.  However Rudy is a half-breed for the other part is fire giant.  So you can guess what you get when Jack Frost and Rudy unite.  Steam is just a part of what you will get and it will definitely keep you warm.

It was a fun little story but was missing so much.  Rudy was the one that made most of the sacrifices although you can feel and see Jack’s displeasure on it.  You can also see Rudy’s giant heart and he is my favorite of all characters.  The story though fell flat to me and I really don’t know exactly why.  It just felt off to me.  Other than that it was enjoyable and I can see myself reading it more than once around the holidays.
