A healer and a warrior fight to survive the winter . . . and each other.
Grif is tired of life as a mercenary—tired of life, period. So he heads off into the mountains, not much caring whether he lives or dies. But when his indifference leaves him unconscious in a snowbank, a stranger finds him and insists on dragging him back from death.
Kiernan doesn’t really have time to nurse a stranger back to health; he’s on an important mission. He doesn’t know why the message he’s carrying is significant, but he’s determined to deliver it, even if it means risking his life in the winter mountains. Still, he can’t just walk away from a fellow traveler in need.
Grif didn’t want to be saved, and he sure as hell doesn’t want to be stuck with an annoying, naïve do-gooder. But since when do the mountains give men what they want? The snow is too deep to travel. Food is scarce. Grif and Kiernan learn to depend on each other, and eventually to care about each other. Neither of them wanted it to happen. But sometimes the mountains don’t give men what they want; sometimes, the mountains give men what they need.

Of Princes False and True
by
Eric Alan Westfall
A tennis match? Starting a war between the Duchy of Avann and the Kingdom of the Westlands?
Only in a fairy tale.
When Prince Henry hurts a young ball boy who told him Danilo’s ball was inside the line, Danilo’s response is automatic. Punch the prince’s face, pick him up left-handed, and break the royal jaw. Unfortunately, there’s another “automatic” at work: a death sentence for whoever strikes royalty.
King Hiram can’t—won’t—change the rule of law to rule of royal whim. But he grants the Heir of Avann fifteen days to find words that will allow Danilo to live.
In those fifteen days: Magick. The gods, goddesses and gender-fluid deities on Deity Lane. Kilvar, the assassin. A purse which opens in a bank vault. A mysterious old man. The Lady of All. The Magickal Hand writing, rewriting. A fairy tale within a fairy tale. A huge horse called Brute. And at the end…perhaps the right words and a most unexpected love. Plus a deity-supplied dinner with just the right amount of garlic.
All royalties will go to a local LGBT organization.

Everett Surlin longed for the day that his Fated mate finally recognized him. It’d been eight years since he’d first met Matt Jenkins, he’d never imagined it take this long for his mate to realize their connection.
Matt Jenkins had done his best to put his past behind him. The abuse he’d endured as a child stayed locked away inside him, never to be shared with anyone. He’d assumed that as a result of his upbringing, he was broken and he would never have a mate. That didn’t stop him from desiring Everett and wishing that they could be together.
When tragedy strikes, Matt stays at Everett’s side, which just might be the push he needs to discover what had been there all along and a future he never dreamed would be possible.
This is a 26K non-shifter mpreg novella featuring a sweet romance, a HEA, and no cliffhanger.
This is the second book in the Directions series, but can be read as a standalone.

Born to Be Wild
(Born 04)

Strong-willed.
Defiant.
Wild – Liam was born that way.
He’s running from his past when he meets Jake, the owner of a gay club where beautiful men earn money by pole dancing.
Liam has nowhere to go so, what has he got to lose by taking up Jake’s offer to dance. With somewhere to live, money and new friends, his life appears to have taken a turn for the best.
So, what sends Liam plunging into darkness once again?
Can Jake bring him back into the light, this time for good?
Blurb:Jake Rushman is on the run, but it’s too late. He’s being tracked by an expert.
Motorcycle Club Enforcer Nick is tough, but even he has a conscience. It’s slowly destroying him, together with memories of his parents’ ugly deaths. Nick eliminates the guilty, but Jake Rushman is the innocent witness to a murder. It will be one kill too many.
Determined to find redemption, Nick plans to trade his life for Jake’s. Neither man counts on the fierce, powerful bond that the collision of their opposing worlds brings, and Jake refuses to let Nick sacrifice himself. He offers Nick the one thing he’s never had: hope.
But with a violent past tracking them, Nick might be forced to do the one thing he promised himself he never would—kill again.
Review: Jake is on the run after witnessing a murder by a ruthless motorcycle gang. Their enforcer Nick is tasked with the issue of getting rid of him. But Jake is tired of killing. He finds that Jake is innocent and does not want to kill him so decides to sacrifice himself instead.
What proceeds is a fast paced story of two men willing to do whatever it takes to make sure they both stay alive. A great beginning to a series that enthralled me from the beginning. I loved both Jake and Nick and found myself on the edge of my seat waiting the final outcome.
Blurb: Scott Halleck and Julian Reeves are polar opposites in almost every way. Scott, a modern arts curator at a museum in Chicago, relishes the finer things in life. Julian is a strange photographer whose hair color changes as frequently as his mood. As far as Scott can see, Julian is an erratic know-it-all who lives his life one day to the next. To Julian, Scott is an uptight, too-coiffed perfectionist.
As the two men continue to run into each other, their dislike grows, but beneath that animosity, a fire is beginning to spark. Scott is baffled when he realizes he is falling for Julian, a man who burns hotter than a wildfire. Scott will have to decide, for the first time in his life, if he’ll let the flames take over.
Review: This was a difficult one for me to review. This is a fantastically put together book and the artist within the two main characters comes out clearly in the writing, to the point of poetry. However, and this is a big however, I just wasn’t feeling it. Let me explain:
Firstly, this story about art curator Scott Halleck, told from his POV. He’s got a pretty ordinary life with an attentive boyfriend that he realises his feelings aren’t so strong (yes, it’s completely okay to feel sorry for both Scott and Ryan, I understand and appreciate both perspectives). Then at a bar he meets Mark, who is basically an arsehole, but what the hey… then he meets Aaron, which is just Mark’s alias and again the guy is an arsehole… and then finally he meets Mark/Aaron as Julian, estranged brother to his best friend’s girlfriend. There is an instant connection between the guys, but Scott has Ryan and Julian is just continually being combative/ destructive to anyone who wants to make nice with him.
Now, this is where I wasn’t feeling it. I felt the sexual tension and the attraction between the MCs. I felt the conflict within the characters, too. I get that this is meant to be an unhealthy type of romance with no real HEA other than what we do get. But for some reason it just didn’t completely gel for me. Too much was left unresolved while Scott and Julian miraculously held hands and wandered off into the sunset with their HFN, they spent too many angst-ridden pages running from each other.
Of course, it might just be that I am only one of a handful that feels this way. As I said before, the writing is almost poetic and yet the talk of hollowness, destruction, etc. makes me think that Scott is borderline obsessive over Julian. While Julian has his own demons to face (which I don’t think was fully addressed by the end and could have had more), Scott also talks of his state of mind that screams to me like unaddressed depression. Neither of those sits well with me. I don’t mind dark romances, the kind of head-fucks that speak of destructive relationships, but at the same time I don’t like stories that don’t fully do justice (or acknowledge) any physical/substance abuse and other mental problems.
Yet, in all that, this is a well thought out and thought provoking book, thought provoking in the fact that I was ready to yell at my screen on public transport while reading. The writing is as artistic as the characters, though you could never really, on face value, call Scott a haunted artist. This is a dark romance where both character are fighting themselves and each other.
Blurb: As the leader of his pack, Griffin is not a typical omega. As far as he’s concerned, he’s destined to be alone; unable to bond, trained to kill, and with the responsibilities of a pack on his shoulders. If he was ever to take a mate, they’d have to be unlike anyone he’s ever met. An alpha willing to stand back and let their omega take charge? Not likely.
When he finds a feral alpha fighter so dangerous he’s about to be killed, Griffin makes the ill-advised decision to intervene. He sees something more than an animal in the alpha’s eyes. But whoever the fighter was before, all that’s left is anger and instinct. Can Griffin coax the man beneath back to the surface?
The Beast knows only the fight, nothing more. He doesn’t remember a before and doesn’t trust the strange omega who comes to visit him every day, bringing food and meaningless words. Until, one day, Griffin brings a name, and a part of Beast hidden deep inside breaks free.
Beau doesn’t know how Griffin brought him back. All he knows is the omega is his anchor in a storm. When forces from outside Griffin’s pack threaten to pull them apart, he’ll do everything he can to get his omega back. He’ll fight again, even if it means losing himself once more.
Review: Each book in the Briar Woods Pack collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Griffin’s pack is quite unusual. For one he is the omega and the one in charge, where as the alpha is second in charge. Then there is the fact that he is a feline shifter, there is a wolf shifter, fox shifter and so on in this pack. They rescue those who are in need and kill those who fight them. He comes across an alpha who is feral and about to be put down. That is until he decides that there is a chance that the alpha can be helped. It also worked out that he likes him.
Beau was an alpha who fought and killed, until one time he went feral. That story will have you in tears but not just because of the death it self, but who the man was. Here he is with an omega who wants to help him. Read the book if you want the juicy details though, trust me you won’t be sorry.
There were some great parts to this story but some not so great parts. A story is written because an author has a story to tell, and as a reader we don’t always understand their take on things. My issues wasn’t the death of the man that sent Beau into what he became but who he was. I didn’t much care for that and so much so that I will probably not really read the next book. Also the death well I won’t tell you who, but it wasn’t needed to make the story. I am afraid that the way this story unfolded really changed my mind in this series.
The story itself was fresh and exciting plus the danger just added to it. The characters are a bit different to get to know. I loved Griffin and could connect with him, but Beau was a bit different in parts. I actually found myself liking them both, however I couldn’t connect with them. The story felt a bit stiff and in parts boring to me. There were some good parts though that I liked, but over all the story just didn’t rock my world like it should have.

Blurb: When past and future cross over in a hidden dimension, decisions need to be made.
Up and coming fashion designer John Sanderson can’t pass on the dream commission of designing the attire of the entire wedding party of a wealthy client. The catch is that he must stay at their isolated country estate for the duration of the project, even when things start to become strange.
Samuel has been waiting a long time for John’s return. He lost him a long time ago when an angry man cast him out of this dimension on a whim. Now he has the chance to make things right and claim what is his.
Caught between the past and the future, John finds himself straddling two dimensions and faced with a decision. Will Samuel’s love for John be enough to keep him safe no matter what he decides?
Review: This was a strange yet interesting read. John is suddenly thrust into a weird sense of time as he takes a job that will take a month to complete. All the while there are certain elements that come into play that leave reader wondering what is going on, what is real, what is in the past.
Samuel I could never figure out exactly what he was. The description given did not help much either. So I was at a loss as to what he was. But, I still adored the two of them. It seemed that every time the two came together something or someone was trying to tear them apart.
Loved the details, mystery and characters in this story. So far I have only read two books in this series and neither are connected.
Blurb: Some men like gentle loving—others like to switch up the power. In P.A. Friday’s collection of stories, explore the raunchier, edgier side of lust—a space where domination and control can be the greatest turn-on.
From Stefan finding out the hard way just how straight he isn’t, Jake who has to learn to behave or take his punishment, to Kel juggling two very different lovers at his workplace, doing what you’re told has never been sexier.
Review: What I thought was a short story turned out to be 3 very short stories. The problem was they were not really stories, just some hot sex scenes.
Pretty Little Straight Boys
Rufus came out to his friends that he was gay but what he had not told anyone was how he wanted Stefan. One of his best friends but the man was straight, or so he thought. One hot night of drinking leads them all into a game of hide and seek. The one found had to forfeit something, but when Stefan was found it turned out to be something else.
For such a very short story, the author did a good job of making it seem just a bit longer. It was not really my taste, but it was a bit hot.
Making Amends
Jake is in trouble with his master and he needs to be punished. Alessandro has one major rule for him to behave. The problem was Jake like his punishment just a bit much. Except maybe this punishment might just be a bit to much. Just give him to Leo.
No real story here but it was still pretty hot. Just a bit of kink to go with the day I suppose. However it was really just to much for me. I think giving your boy to another is degrading and gross in my eyes. Especially if you know your boy doesn’t like the other man. It was a complete turnoff for me.
Office Politics
Kel has two sexy lovers at his work place and liked to be bossed around a bit. Dean and Peter who would have thought.
Just a bit to much for me. Sounded a bit violent and I don’t much care for the way they were treating one another, although it was still hot I suppose. Kel has two lovers who don’t know about each other. He is a dominant and a submissive, basically a switch. Dean is a violent dom, where as Peter is a complete submissive. To me two lovers who don’t know about the other is cheating, and the book dropped completely.
Overall
I really need to pay attention to blurbs on books. I came close to liking the first book, but the other two books were complete flops. I don’t like cheating and I can’t stand a man giving away his boy to a gross man whom the boy doesn’t like. So all in all, total degradation in my eyes. The first book has a chance of being turned into a complete story, but the other two were just porn to me. I am afraid this book will go straight to the discard pile. Definitely not a book for me.
Blurb: Museum curator, Harrison Kirkpatrick, has been fascinated by the American Revolution since childhood, but never in his wildest dreams did he ever imagine falling in love from afar with a soldier who fought for America’s freedom. Through a series of events too wild to be believed, Harrison is thrown back in time to 1775, mere days before the Battle of Bunker Hill, finding himself at the business end of a musket held by the very man he has been pining for.
Massachusetts Militiaman, Gannon Chalmers, does not know what to make of the strange man he finds wandering around Bunker Hill days before his unit is to engage the British Redcoats. Is this man friend or foe? What he does know is that there is an undeniable attraction growing between them that he must resist at all costs.
As the battle draws closer, so do Gannon and Harrison. Can they deny the passion threatening to explode between them like a powder keg? Or will Gannon’s abundance of caution keep him from giving in to the one man who could lay claim to his heart?
On the brink of a war that will change the history of the world, the pair must decide what price they are willing to pay for freedom, and how much they are willing to sacrifice for love.
Review: I loved this story about Harrison the events that unfolded. Harrison is a museum curator and loves the revolutionary war era. He gets thrown back in time to seventeen seventy six and meets Gannon, a soldier who died in battle. He has been drawn to his grave and spoke to him daily.
Gannon for his part is cautious upon meeting Harrison. He does not know whether the man is friend or foe. These two men spend three days together and fall in love. My heart broke for Harrison at the same time I was happy he got to spend time time with Gannon.
The real shocker came from the end and meeting Gage. It’s who he ancestors with that had me doing a happy dance for Harrison. Suspenseful, full of great action scenes and a love that travels through time this story pulled no punches.
Blurb: Caelan is going crazy, or at least that’s what it feels like. He’s having blackouts, waking up in places he can’t remember going to, losing hours and sometimes even days, and he has no idea what he does during the times he can’t remember.
Until he wakes up to find a severed head on his bed.
Jordan didn’t mean to get involved in this case. He’s a detective, a human detective, and he shouldn’t care what happens to demons. He doesn’t even like demons. But when more and more of them are found torn apart, he worries and decides to give the League the info so they can do something about it before more people get hurt.
The last person Jordan would have suspected of being behind the brutal murders is Aiden’s pretty, delicate-looking brother. When he finds Caelan with yet another body, he surprises himself by taking Caelan home rather than delivering him to the League. He’s even more surprised when the League decides to help.
They might not be able to, though, because Caelan is possessed, and the demon inside him is strong. Is it too strong for Caelan to survive? And why does Jordan feel the need to stick by Caelan and make sure he’ll be okay? What will that mean for his job—for his life?
Review: Each book in the Demons Hearts collection features a new romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order.
Humans did not get involved in demon’s affairs not even for murder, especially if it involved another demon. So when Jordan was told to go investigate, well you can imagine his surprise. He was not a fan of demons, didn’t mean he wouldn’t help them but he preferred to stay away. The only times he ever went there was to see his best friend. A best friend that was mated to a demon warrior. But what he finds will shock the crap out of him.
Caelan has been blacking out and loosing time. With the murders going on he was beginning to feel like he had something to do with them. It was more so after waking up covered in blood and laying besides the head of a demon. Must have been one hell of a night. He decides to run, but ends up sitting besides the body that went with the head.
Jordan has the hots for a sexy purple haired demon with a tale. Now he just needs to figure out what is wrong. Jordan needs to figure out how to keep the demon he is falling in love with alive. This is one of the best books I have read by this author in quite a while. I have always been a big fan of Catherine’s work and it has definitely been a good ride.
The characters are quite unique, well the demon guys are. At first when I saw the cover I wasn’t too sure if it was a guy or not, but damn he is a cutie. The story was entertaining as hell and gave me everything I could want in a story. You get danger, excitement, adventure, some hot sexy times and quirky upper level demon exorcists. My attention was caught from the moment I started reading and I just couldn’t put it down.
I had a blast reading this and can not wait to get my hands on the next book.
Blurb: A trip down to Cornwall is just what Ryan Penniford needs to recover from the daily grind of London life. Ryan and his amateur dramatics society, the Sarky Players, are traveling to Porthcurno to perform at the stunning Minack Theatre.
Stuart Box has returned to Cornwall after earning his PhD, and is killing time as he looks for a job back in London. Spending time with Ryan from the Sarky Players is a great way to take his mind off things.
During their first meeting, sparks fly, but not in a good way, and they must work to get past their initial hostilities to discover they have great off-stage chemistry. Stuart soon learns Ryan is not the superficial man people assume he is, and Stuart likes what he sees. The feeling is entirely mutual.
Pity Ryan is only visiting for two weeks, but both men want to see where this holiday romance might take them.
Review: This is the second instalment to Rebecca Cohen’s Treading the Boards series (and I am well aware that there is at least one other series in MM called Treading the Boards). You don’t need to have read book 1 to get into this one. The couple of the previous book, Overly Dramatic, Andy and Phil, are mentioned a couple of times but nothing that requires a back story.
We are back in the world of the Sarky Players amateur theatre group and they are now on the road from London for a summer performance in Cornwall. This time round we get to meet member of the Sarky Players, Ryan as he readies himself to play the part of Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. It’s at the local outdoor amphitheatre that he meets local guy Stuart. The road to romance is rocky for them, and probably a bit predictable, but it is entirely pleasing. However, once again I enjoyed the chemistry between the MCs and the romance was hot.
On a more personal note, I have to say that it took me a few days to realise that I did indeed enjoy this story more than I originally thought. Stuart’s story of finishing his PhD and having problems finding a post-doctoral research position just hit too close to home for me, the problem being that I am approaching the end of my PhD and finding myself in the same position (and in a similar field of biology) to Stuart. Maybe I can find my very own Ryan!
In saying all that, people towards the end of their PhDs will find some of the descriptions so close to home that it’s almost depressing. For everyone else, rest assured this is a pretty damn realistic look at the life of research scientists.
Nevertheless, cannot wait for book 3!!! Even if that will also be alarmingly close to my own life.
