Sedonia Guillone

Sex and murder don’t mix but Detective Toshiro Genjin and psychic John Holmes do…

The modern killer, a historical murder of two samurai, and Toshi’s need to honor other commitments combine to make the blooming love between John and Toshi difficult. And dangerous. The more deeply they delve into the past, the more unsure the future looks. Could the heat between them be the only thing that can solve the mystery, despite all of the difficulties that stand in their way? Can they find a way to keep what is most precious to them? Old houses hide secrets, sometimes dark ones.

In the 1970’s, London based family, Marjorie, Stanley and their theatrically bent son fall in love with a dilapidated Victorian seaside villa.  Dreaming of a better life by the sea, they transform the property into a luxury guesthouse, ignorant of the tragic events that occurred there at the beginning of the century.  They discover that their guests are not the only other occupants in the building.

The souls trapped within the house offer the temptation of wealth and power, but all come with a deadly price.  Stanley, supported by his ambitious wife, enters political office. Marjorie will stop at nothing to achieve her goals for her husband, no matter who gets in the way.

Thirty years later, an affluent gay couple, Jez and Graham, purchase the hotel, which now unoccupied has once again fallen into disrepair.  They are blissfully unaware of the building’s grisly past.  Jez falls under the influence of the spirits within the house, rapidly achieving fame, fortune, and a life beyond his wildest imagination, but the price is ultimately the corruption of his very soul.

Bound by a common destiny, both Marjorie and Jez’s fates lie inextricably intertwined across time and connected to the house.  Their gruesome realisation is that death is not necessarily a release.

Schoolteacher Adam Matthews just wants to help select a new headteacher and go home. The governors at Lindenshaw St Crispin’s have already failed miserably at finding the right candidate, so it’s make or break this second time round. But when one of the applicants is found strangled in the school, what should have been a straightforward decision turns tempestuous as a flash flood in their small English village.

Inspector Robin Bright isn’t thrilled to be back at St. Crispin’s. Memories of his days there are foul enough without tossing in a complicated murder case. And that handsome young teacher has him reminding himself not to fraternize with a witness. But it’s not long before Robin is relying on Adam for more than just his testimony.

As secrets amongst the governors emerge and a second person turns up dead, Robin needs to focus less on Adam and more on his investigation. But there are too many suspects, too many lies, and too many loose ends. Before they know it, Robin and Adam are fighting for their lives and their hearts.

Enemy territory is a dangerous place to fall in love.

After the deaths of three undercover cops investigating a drug ring in a seedy strip club in Seattle, Detective Mahir Hussain has been sent to finish the job. He joins the club’s security team in the hopes of finding enough evidence to bust the operation before the men in charge find a reason to put him in a shallow grave.

To protect the strippers, only gay men can work the club. Ridley, the cold and intimidating head of security, knows exactly how to test potential new hires—including Mahir. From the minute they meet, Mahir and Ridley engage in a dangerous dance of sex and mind games. Mahir needs to find his evidence before Ridley figures out he’s a cop—and before they both grow too close to betray one another.

As the game goes on, Mahir burrows deeper into the operation, where he learns there’s much more happening than meets the eye . . . and why every cop who made it this far has been silenced with a bullet.

Hostile Ground is available May 12th from Riptide Publishing.

Description:

On September 1, 2011, TJ Klune wrote, “…it’s not about the ending, it’s about the journey…” in a review of Eric Arvin’s Woke Up in a Strange Place. With those words, two men began a journey of love and invited us to ride along. TJ and Eric have shared so much with us: their wonderful books, their smiles, their humor, their lives, and their inspiring devotion to each other. In December of 2013, their journey took a detour when Eric was taken to the emergency room. He survived the surgery to remove a cavernous hemangioma from his brain stem, but the challenges TJ and Eric face are far from over.

The authors in this anthology donated their talent as a way to support Eric’s continued recovery, to help bring strength to TJ, and to show both of them just how much love surrounds them. Grand Adventures is a diverse range of stories about the journey of love. We’re going on some grand adventures for a great cause. Thank you for joining us.

One hundred percent of the income from this volume goes directly to TJ and Eric.

Grand Adventures - An Unexpected Thing_FBbanner_DSP

John Amory:

Hello everyone! My name is John Amory, and my contribution to the Grand Adventures anthology is titled “An Unexpected Thing.” This short is actually a sequel to a story that Dreamspinner published last June in its Daily Dose compilation called “Protection.” The new story picks up about two years after Jamie and Ben met; both are back from London and traveling the West Coast. Jamie is en route to a shooting competition with Ben in tow, but when their plane is diverted, they are forced to find their own way through the Cascades to Seattle. They, of course, find something else along the way.

I have never met TJ or Eric, but I was struck by their struggle like everyone else. We are all a family of authors and readers in this genre, and it felt like someone in our family had suddenly fallen ill. I wanted to help, especially since TJ’s book Into This River I Drown had such an effect on me. When “Protection” was accepted for publication last year, it was the first book I chose from Dreamspinner’s catalog to read, so that I could get a feel for their audience, their authors, the style of stories they publish, etc. I was blown away by River, which is, in so many ways, a really atypical (but still brilliant) M/M romance. There was so much else going on: grief, redemption, faith, closure, all of these things played into the book’s themes, and they’re all things I think TJ handled beautifully. So I began “An Unexpected Thing” as a sequel to “Protection” that contained a guest appearance by two of TJ’s characters from Roseland, which seemed only appropriate given its ties to River. I eventually re-edited the story to not include TJ’s characters (since, if all the authors did that, it would be taxing on TJ to edit and approve each story), but the essence that those characters brought to the story is still there, as well as some other Easter eggs for fans of TJ’s book. “An Unexpected Thing” is about finding love in places you never thought you would, with people you never thought you would. That’s something I got from Into This River I Drown and from TJ and Eric’s personal story, and I think it’s something universal: keep your eyes and heart open, because The One might be someone you’d never notice otherwise.

Thanks for reading and for supporting Grand Adventures! You can find me on Twitter (@JohnAmory) or on GoodReads. Feel free to drop a line! Happy reading!

About John Amory:

John Amory is and always will be a hopeless romantic, which he blames on watching too many episodes of Beverly Hills, 90210 growing up. He began writing stories and poems as a child, continuing through high school. He put writing on the backburner for a number of years, during which time he finished both Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees in English, and is thrilled to be creating again now that he knows what “free time” means.

In another life, John is a newly minted college professor, as well as an actor/director/choreographer/playwright whose work has been performed in New York City and elsewhere. He is also obsessed with television and keeps two blogs on the subject: one for general reviews and comments (faketvcritic.blogspot.com), and one devoted solely to So You Think You Can Dance (cuttingsytycd.blogspot.com).

Feel free to drop a message here or on Twitter to say hi!

Sophie Bonaste:

1. Tell us about your contribution to the anthology.

My short story is called When Friendship Becomes More.

Here’s the official blurb, because it explains the story better than I could:

Despite their differences, Jamie and Roy are not only college roommates, but best friends. What Jamie doesn’t know is that Roy has had a crush on him for years. When Jamie realizes Roy’s feelings during a camping trip with friends, the attraction will either prove mutual, or it will tear their friendship apart.

I’m really proud of this short story. It has moments that will make you laugh and cry. I hope everyone out there loves it as much as I do.

2. What is your favorite TJ and Eric memory?

Well, I haven’t been lucky enough to meet TJ or Eric in person. But I remember reading the news of TJ’s proposal in October of last year. I was instantly touched by the obvious love between the two men. It may not have been a showy proposal like that Home Depot one that went viral a few months ago, but it was one of the most love-filled proposals I’ve ever seen. And isn’t that what’s really important?

3. Why did you choose to participate in the anthology?

When I heard about the anthology it was a no-brainer. I knew I had to help TJ and Eric in any way I could. And since writing is one of my favorite things to do anyway, it was a win-win.

4. Do you have anything to say to TJ and Eric?

I just wanted to say that you two are both some of the strongest people I’ve ever known. I wish you only the best as you go forward. Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!!!!!

About Sophie Bonaste:

Sophie Bonaste is a novelist who never set out to be a novelist. As a child, she wanted to be a Broadway actress and spent her childhood in numerous productions. But when adulthood set in and reality took over, Sophie chose to up the theater for a steady paycheck and instead turned to writing as a creative outlet. She stumbled into the M/M genre through fanfiction and never looked back. Sophie is quite happy with her change in artistic expression and doesn’t plan to stop writing for a long time.

A self-proclaimed nerd, Sophie is an avid fan of all things Star Wars and Harry Potter. (Sophie is a member of the Slytherin house, for those who were wondering.) Sophie also spends many hours watching and re-watching nerdy television shows. When she is not obsessing over the latest and greatest in nerdy entertainment, Sophie can be found screaming at her television during American football games. (Go Pack Go!) Blurb: Dr. Alastair Burrows decides to take a stand after years of escalating abuse by his husband, Cedric Perkins, when he stops Alastair from visiting his brother Grayson after a serious car accident. A few weeks later, Alastair finally escapes his guards, sues for divorce, and begins to openly question Cedric and the pharmaceutical company he runs. As a medical researcher working for Biomedical Inc., Alastair witnessed plenty of dubious practices but had no say. Now he takes a new job with EDT, a company fighting for ethical drug testing, planning to expose Biomedical.

Reinaldo Valverde, intent on stopping drug trafficking, suspects Biomedical is in league with Colombian drug lords. Unable to infiltrate Biomedical, he goes undercover at EDT, hoping to find some leads in their database. Reinaldo meets Alastair and discovers the handsome doctor is also after Biomedical. Reinaldo keeps quiet about his mission, but as Alastair gets closer to the truth, Reinaldo gets closer to Alastair. When they discover Biomedical’s illegal research labs, EDT sends both men on a recognizance mission to Colombia and Brazil.

Lies are revealed, disaster strikes, and they are stranded in the Amazon jungle, facing a fight for survival they cannot afford to lose.

Review: This is book three in the Modern Battles series, but stands alone pretty well.   This is Alistair Burrow’s story. He is Grayson’s brother. In Grayson’s story, Alistair wasn’t able to make it back to England due to personal issues with his possessive husband, Cedric. In book two Cedric’s company was mentioned in a plot to undermine Haldor and Danny and get involved in the children’s hospital funding.

This book goes in an entirely new direction.  There is lots of intrigue, mystery, espionage, and suspense.  Move over Grayson. I think Alistair replaced you as my favourite character in this series.

Alistair is a research doctor. He comes off as meek and mild-mannered, but throughout the story we see him grow and become stronger, not cower down and accept his abuse.  Reinaldo is your basic secret agent guy, but I loved him. He takes his job to protect Alistair and find out about Biomedical’s drug trafficking very seriously. I would have liked to seen a little more of Cedric but I think him being evil and controlling came across pretty well.

DirtyDeeds_TourBanner2Hey everyone!!! Thanks to MM Book Reviews for having me back here for my Dirty Deeds blog tour 🙂  Dirty Deeds is the first in this spin-off series of Hell or High Water.  Dirty Deeds focuses on Cillian and Mal, two characters who’ve been in both Hell or High Water books 1 & 2 (Catch a Ghost and Long Time Gone.) Dirty Deeds # 1 captures a very specific moment in time for the Cillian (the spook) and Mal (the former SEAL in exile).

Here’s our questions for S.E. and her candid answers:

Madeline: 01 – I absolutely love Mal already, will Cillian be deserving of all that Mal has to offer???

S.E: I know people have very mixed feelings about Cillian pre Dirty Deeds.  I think you’ll get to see another side of him that’s surprising.  For me, Mal and Cillian was a complete, unplanned surprise and it’s been a roller coaster from there.

Madeline: 02 – Will Mal and Cillian end up exclusive??? They both seem to have a thing for Prophet.

S.E: Yes, they will end up exclusive—but they’ve got a bit of work to do before their HEA (which WILL happen).  Mal and Prophet are very tight – the kind of friendship that’s literally been through life and death, so Mal’s thing for Proph is protective rather than sexual.  I don’t see Mal sharing well.  As for Cillian, his ‘thing’ for Prophet is complicated, but Mal ends up surprising the hell out of him.  As for Prophet—absolutely no sharing.  Although Proph shows his jealousy much differently than Tommy, could you imagine either of them handling that well?

DirtyDeeds_150x300 1Madeline: 03 – Will Tommy and Proph be showing up in Dirty Deeds, and will that damn couch be used????

S.E:LOL!  Mal does have something to say about the couch in Dirty Deeds!  And yes, you’ll get a bit of Proph and Tommy.

Pixie: 04 – Will we discover more about what Cillian is really doing hanging around Prophet or will it be a completely different storyline?

S.E: You find out much more about why Cillian’s hanging around Proph (and more on the John Morse storyline) in Dirty Deeds and Hell or High Water # 3 (their storylines run partly on the same timeline)…so by the time you get to Dirty Lies and Dirty Love, the Morse plot is done and Mal and Cillian have their own story to deal with.

Pixie: 05 – How did you come up with such fascinating characters and such a brilliant back story, and will we ever learn why Mal, Prophet and their friends can’t be together?

S.E: I’m VERY lucky – these guys found me  / picked me.  Prophet showed up one day and literally made his way into two books before I realized that he was never going to leave me alone until he’s got his own series.  It’s the first time I’ve ever written the same couple throughout the entire series, and I’m enjoying the hell out of it.  And yes, there’s a little of it in Long Time Gone (the CIA is responsible) but ALL of that will come out between Hell or High Water books 3 & 4.

Two seasoned operatives finally meet their match: each other.S.E. Jakes DirtyDeeds_500x750

Cillian works for the mysterious Special Branch 20: an organization that runs black ops commissioned by the British government. His specialty is deep undercover assignments with virtually no support. He’s been alone for so long that he no longer knows anything else.

Mal’s also used to being alone. Wanted in several states and even more countries, he’s not allowed in the vicinity of any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. And his current assignment is to track Cillian in order to discover the spook’s endgame. Except he’s no longer sure which one of them is getting played.

Cillian isn’t about to let the mission that’s consumed him for the past several years crumble because an outsider is poking around where he doesn’t belong. But Mal forces his way through Cillian’s defenses—and into his heart—exposing a devastating betrayal that could destroy them both.

Review: Cillian is an operative for the mysterious Special Branch 20, a British black ops organization. Deep cover is his specialty and he has been working on a case alone for the past several years, chasing down a figure that is more like a spectre and is always one step ahead. Mal is used to being alone, working in the background but unable to meet up with any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. Mal is currently assigned to keeping an eye on Cillian; to discover the real motives for his involvement in Prophet’s life. Mal works his way into Cillian’s defences and sparks fly, but what will happen when they discover just who the other is?

This is a fabulous story that has you guessing as to what is happening; we move smoothly through the story being pulled into the mystery that is surrounding these men. Mal is the silent one, he suffered a devastating injury that he nearly died from and left him mute, he always has his teammate’s backs and he is determined to learn everything Cillian knows. Cillian keeps his cards close to his chest, hunting for a traitor and keeping Prophet out of the game are his main goals. These two men are playing a game of cat and mouse, hunting for answers and keeping their secrets but conducting a tryst that only one of them really knows about.

We see a brilliant story being developed as we look on, Mal is incredibly sneaky drawing Cillian in like he is a fish on the line and Cillian thinks he is playing with Mal having no clue as to what is really going on. Their meetings are clandestine with want and need swirling through the air, their couplings desperate and needy and filled with mystery by their actions. *sigh* A perfect match who have a very rocky road ahead of them.

Oh My God, oh my god I need book two… right this second! There are no words to describe how badly I want to track S.E. Jakes down and make her write the entire series out, the ending for this book has me on tender hooks and I am desperate to know what happens next! Holy cow Mal, what are you going to do? Cillian, I hope you start running. While I want to tell everyone what’s in this story and what is really going on, I can’t because the surprise is just too juicy, both Mal and Cillian have surprises for the other and not all of them are pleasant.

I have to recommend this to those who love brilliant stories coming together before your eyes, secrets revealed that has the hair on your neck standing on end, a fantastic explosive burgeoning relationship that might just go down in flames and a beautifully written story that has you begging for more.

Review: I like how this short story flashes around in time, and while it’s a horror story about a serial killer in the woods, it’s also about darker, scarier things like alcoholism and codependency. And oh yes, a very harsh first date between detective Luke O’Brien and Tim the travel writer. There is plenty of action, suspense, and viable characters. One of the very reasons Lanyon is among my favorite authors is this added layer to his characters, they are flawed, they are believable, and there is always some bit of dark undertone to them. Great read, short, dark and a bit gritty…be sure to add The Parting Glass to your list, it fits this book tongue in groove.

But, during a visit back home to Charleston, he receives a call from the FBI that a stranger has been found poisoned and mutilated. What Cole learns next threatens to bring down the wall and expose him to the sharp emotions behind it when he is told that there is more to his childhood nightmares than just dark places. Betrayed by his memory, the clue to his past and his ultimate survival rests in a stranger, Cash Calhoun, a man he has never met but has been tied to his entire life. Steeped in southern drawl and suspense, THE TREES BEYOND THE GRASS, the first in the Cole Mouzon thriller series, is a riveting story about the amazing, but sometimes destructive, power of our minds to protect us from the evils of life, while undermining our ability to discover true happiness.

Look for book two of the Cole Mouzon series, WHEN ASPENS QUAKE, coming Spring 2014.

Review:  This story is deeply rooted in the South, with backdrops from Denver, Atlanta, and South Carolina. Mystery, intrigue, and suspense will grab you from the start and hold your attention throughout as you travel with Cole from his home in Denver to where he grew up in Charleston. The bits and pieces of scenery and history in this book all but become a secondary character; they are so detailed and precise.

Cole Mouzon is an accomplished attorney in Denver who is headed back home to visit his family and childhood friend, Ann. He is completely unaware that a serial killer has him in her sights until his sister calls him frantic after a FBI agent contacts her trying to find Cole. This only adds to his recent stress brought on by a resurgence of a recurring nightmare he thought was long since gone. As the story progresses the reader is slowly given more details about Cole’s past that even he wasn’t aware of, and his connection to the killer that stalks him.

Poinsett is sick, twisted, and demented. She will stop at nothing to make the people she believes responsible for ruining her life pay, with theirs. Her murderous rampage spans over several years and state lines with meticulous preparation, always followed with the painful delivery. Her depravity knows no bounds, and Reeves description of what’s going on in this woman’s mind while she’s stalking Cole sent chills down my spine. I’m very much reminded of Charlize Theron in Monster.

This book was emotional and intense. Strong secondary characters like Cole’s sister the cop and the alcoholic FBI agent who is still grieving over the death of his wife round out this suspenseful story. I especially liked Cash Calhoun. The professor that Cole shares a past with that neither of them even realized they shared. A past that will shape and mold the possibility of a future, if they make it out of the marsh alive.

The story leaned toward the over descriptive a couple of times, but it was always gripping, I was always intrigued, so the latter was easily overlooked. I wanted something more to develop in this installment with Cole and Cash, but that budding romance is definitely there, biding its time. I cannot wait until the next book in this series.

No naughty bits this time around. Cole and Cash are positively gay and attracted to one another, but they don’t have any adult time yet. The ending hints toward Reeves exploring their relationship further with the next book, and I’m excited to see where he takes them. Anyone that likes murder mysteries and suspense stories will want to read this book.

Pixie’s Review: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts

Prophet works alone; he prefers it that way, but his boss at Extreme Escapes, LTD. has just given him a new partner and a case that is haunted by ghosts of his past. Tom has just come on board EEL and is still wondering why he was offered the job, but he takes the new case and reluctant partner anyway.

With a history of his partners, dying Tom is determined that it won’t happen this time, but with the way that Prophet dices with death, it is down to luck. Prophet and Tom have to find a way to take down killers in the world of underground cage fighting and discover just why the victim was murdered. Their attraction is instant and giving into their attraction is easy, but trusting each other is much harder and what little trust they have will be tested to the limits.

Both MC’s in this book are haunted by their pasts, Prophet because of a promise he made and Tom because all his partners have been killed. Both characters are complex in their own way, Prophet is the most complex with his attitude and broken self-worth, Tom has his own complexities with his seemly ‘bad luck’ and premonition feelings. Their instant attraction leads into a difficult relationship while they are investigating a murder that has murky leads and those leads are mysteriously tied to Prophet, and, a video that Tom mysteriously received even before ever meeting Prophet.

I have to say this is one frustrating book, it gives you hope, hints and clues but leaves you grasping for solid answers. While we learn a lot about both men’s backgrounds it still leaves us in the dark though, it’s like peeling back the first layer only to discover another layer underneath covered in steel. The storyline is really good and you are dragged into the danger and mystery, you get frustrated at Prophet’s attitude and you can’t help hope that Tom will smack the crap out of him to knock some sense into him. Their relationship is one of tension, frustration, and incredible hot sex with Tom doing most of the work to crack Prophet’s steel shell.

This really isn’t the book to read if you are just looking for an easy read or perfect relationship, it’s the book to read if you want something to chew on and frustrate you. It isn’t a pretty book with hearts and flowers; in fact, there are times you could cheerfully string up both Tom and Prophet because they annoy you so much. There are no dewy eyes from these dangerous men, black eyes yes, and there are no sweet words but plenty of cursing and there is certainly no happily ever after unless the author is very happy with our screaming and cursing as we get to the end and discover frustration.

I recommend this is you love mysterious men making the world a better place, if you love broken men who aren’t sure if they want to be fixed, scorching hot sex, a great storyline that leaves you frustrated and if are a glutton for punishment.

Gigi’s Review:  ♥♥♥♥♥5Hearts

Let me start off saying that I became quickly invested in Prophet and Tom. The characters are richly written, detailed, and unique and grabbed my right away. Prophet is a male character I love to love and love to hate. I want to just slap some sense into him but that would never work. This guy is facing huge problems in his future, not only from a genetic illness but also from himself. He doesn’t allow himself to be loved, he distances himself from people who care, he puts himself in harm’s way intentionally, and I still can’t help but be drawn and sympathetic.

Tom is a character I underestimated. I first saw him as weak, but it turns out his intelligence is what sneaks up on a reader. He’s more experienced than he lets on, and he’s physically strong in addition to being the emotional strength. He’s also got a “gift” and a curse that he lives with that distances him from others. So two very hard men with stubborn streaks turning their professional relationship into a sexual one can only spell problems.

This is a book for those who love Special Forces, military, mercenary, and spy adventures. Catch a Ghost has plenty of action, violence, and aggressive sexual heat. All of these things kept me entertained, but the plot left me stranded.
I know this is a series, and I understand the use of a cliffhanger, but it seems to me the whole purpose of Catch a Ghost may have been to introduce Tom and Prophet, set up the drama, build a plot, but then it ended with no resolution. I like to see at least one problem solved in a series installment, but this one left me wanting. Wanting to read more is the result of the quality however!

Blurb: August Adahy Mendez would rather be buried in the world of his detective novels or a good film noir movie than in real life. He’s overweight, undermotivated, and stuck in a dead-end job. As a Chincha, he’s part of a long line of chinchilla shifters, but the greatest accomplishment in his life so far has been moving an hour away from his close-knit herd. That all changes when August’s grandfather leaves him enough cash to pursue his dream: becoming a detective himself.

Sam Ewing is a bitter divorcé who enjoys watching football and being alone. It’s easier when his only interaction with people is when he collects rent from his office building tenants. Then August rents space from him to set up his new detective agency, and Sam is drawn to him despite his misgivings.

Sam soon finds himself involved with one of August’s cases, and the men join forces to catch their criminal. The greater challenges they face, however, are how August makes Sam want to give love a second try and how Sam makes August believe that real life might be even better than fiction.

Review: Cute, sweet, round and fuzzy is sometimes hard to be sexy, but this is a fun read. There’s plenty of humor in the character of August, who is admittedly a bit voluptuous (overweight), and clumsy, and oh yeah a Shapeshifter. And no, not some hot demanding alpha wolf, or even a bear or a sexy predator panther, but a chinchilla! Sam is a sexy older man, but he’s also ornery and holds a surprising possessive uber-cuddler side to him too! And he likes his lovin’ with a little cushion. The mystery was interesting and predictable, over all this was a sweet and funny romance with wannabe Humphrey Bogart characters included. I’m still trying to wrap my brain around a sexy dust bath!

Review: Warning this book contains rape and violence, but it is well written into the story.

This story continues the House of Silence plight, as an influential Lord has retaliated against Charon for not giving one of his boys, a gypsy refugee, into slavery. Will they be found? What secret will be revealed? Will they survive and be able to ever return to the House of Silence? You really should but this one and see.

This is one of those occasions when a second book is better than the first. This one can stand-alone quite well, as there is a character description in front and a catch up on the action. I liked that part, but it read like a character list and scene explanation, instead of a part of a story.

Having said that, it did not take away from the story at all, and if you had not read the first book, that section would help with some information. I do suggest reading the first one before because it gives more insight into the boys’ lives, and the patron’s connections to them. The story is well-edited, and I like that the sex is sensual and erotic, not just vulgar. Even the rapes and violence are well enough written that they make you want to read further and not toss the story. This book is filled with so many twists, turns, mystery, intrigue, and is so fast paced that it is breathtaking. Better than a roller coaster ride.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes, Lords, Cabals, BDSM, D/s relationships, intrigue, mystery, bordellos, stories with lots of conflict, and hot sensual sex. If you liked Fifty Shades, you should love this one.

Blurb: Carson O’Shaughnessy has one task: track down his boss’s flighty nephew, Stassy, and return the kid to Chicago. Then Carson can go back to waiting tables and being productively bitter about his life. He didn’t count on finding a dead body in Stassy’s bed, and he certainly didn’t count on the guy in the flip-flops and cutoffs at the local café helping him get to the bottom of the crime.

But Dale Arden is no ordinary surfing burnout—he’s actually a pretty sharp guy with a seductive voice and a bossy streak wider than the Florida panhandle. When he decides to boss Carson right into his bed, Carson realizes Stassy’s not the only one who’s been lost. Carson likes to think he’s got his life all figured out, that sex with guys is your basic broom-closet transaction; he may just have to revise his priorities, because nobody plans on taking a left at St. Truth-be-Well and finding love at the Bates Parrot Hotel.

Review: Carson is sent by his employer to bring home his runaway nephew. Carson goes reluctantly since his boss gives him no choice and as we find out  later on in the story more of why his boss is so persuasive, but the main reason Carson goes is he feels responsible for Stassy running off since they had a brief encounter in the broom closet. But which man really is the one hiding in the proverbial broom closet? Stassy or Carson?

I absolutely loved this story of mystery and intrigue presented with a lighthearted humorous style and peppered with some sweet and hot mansex. The characters were intriguing the story slightly spoofy with the name of the hotel Bates Parrot Hotel and the mystery as it unfolds is also a bit spoofy, but I loved it. It was funny, cute, light-hearted and the real aspect of the story was the romance between Carson and Dale, and Stassy’s involvement and Carson’s sexuality.

I read this in one sitting not wanting to put it down and I’m not sure what kept me going the cheesy mystery or the sweet sexy story between Carson and Dale. All I now was I couldn’t stop reading till the end. LOVED it.

Recommendation: If you like stories written with humor, mystery and intrigue, sweet sexy romance and a couple twists that may shock you and a very good short read for a hot summer night this is a must!
