Coming Out Catholic
by
Alex Dunkin
Like all good Catholic boys I care what Jesus thinks. Jesus the man, and the faith. Following him make me happy. There’s just one issue… I think I’m gay. Well, it’s hard to be sure going to an all-boys school. It could be simply liking what I know and really, oh so very, liking what I see all day, guys. Being gay and Catholic can’t possible work together. Can it?
Coming Out Catholic follows a year in the life of a private Catholic school student as he comes to terms with his sexuality. Armed with sarcasm and his best friend Mark, he prepares to take on the school thug and the awkward social encounters plaguing his late teenage years.
Confronting himself and his family are just the beginning of his trials. He learns he must find solace with his sexual desires without surrendering any of his faith. He loves both too much but when the time comes he will have to know which one he has to give up or prepare to succumb to a life of denial.
Title: Fae For All Series: Cloverleah Pack 6 Author: Lisa Oliver Genre: Paranormal/ Shape-shifter/ MMM Ménage a Trois Length: Novel (253 pages) Publisher: Lisa Oliver (May 10, 2015) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts Blurb: Jax Cooper never planned to meet his mates. A strong wolf shifter, who keeps his Fae heritage hidden, all Jax wants to do is keep his pack safe and his secrets tucked away. But when men turn up from another pack, all intent on stealing the two men Jax knows to be his, then Jax’s wolf has a hard time controlling himself.
Aelfric and Fafnir have been together for three hundred years. Not that unusual for two Sidhe Fae princes. Having known since puberty that their third destined mate was a wolf shifter, they are overjoyed when Dean, the sweet Omega from the Cloverleah pack gets in touch with them to let them know some possible mates have been found. Hurrying to the Cloverleah Pack, the two men not only find their mate, but also find out that the Cloverleah pack is in trouble – and it’s coming from all sides.
Trying to keep his head, and his mates, Jax has to rely on his friends from the pack to keep things safe. Between two other packs, vampires, the Shifter Council and the Fae Council all trying to intervene in what should be a simple mating process Jax has to wonder if keeping the two beautiful men, destined to be his, is worth losing his life over.
Review: Each book in the Cloverleah Pack collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. Now this was the perfect book. It gave me so much detail, attitude and heart. It had the perfect amount of sexual heat, desires, quirky attitudes, dangerous situations that made it what it is. I want to see more books like this. Not to mention you don’t get two sexy men but three.
This story gave me everything I could ask for in a story. I couldn’t seem to take my eyes off it the whole entire time. Each character gives you the best attitude for the story.
Jax was a wolf shifter and Fae. He had been banished from the Fae world by his grandfather, not even his mother stopped it. He hated everything about it, including the fact that his markings showed that he was to be mated to two Fae’s. He had known who his mates were when they had come across them some time before, but never said a word.
So when other paranormals showed up to catch the attention of Aelfric and Fafnir he knew he had to stop it. His wolf had been pushing him and now things were about to heat up.
Aelfric and Fafnir had been together for quite some time, but they never fully fulfilled their relationship knowing that they had a wolf shifter as a mate. Fafnir has always wanted the triad and had assumed that Aelfric wanted it just as bad. They had always been taught that wolves and other shifters were nothing more than pets, nasty animals.
So that was what they had thought to do at first, but when Dean saved them they saw different. The problem was Aelfric was a pain in the ass and still feared Jax. Enough so that he would hurt the wolf intentionally. It was going to be up to Fafnir to fix what they have done to their mate.
Then the Fae leaders had plans to get rid of Jax and Jax finds out that his banishment was his grandfather’s way of saving him. Times were changing and they all needed to change with it. With them and the other dangers coming at their pack, things were going crazy. Now if he could get his little blond mate to go along with being mated and to me I would think a good hard spanking would come in handy.
I would recommend reading this book, especially if you love shifters, Fae, vampires, hot sex, action packed plots and amazing storyline. There is something about the way that Lisa tells a story that will not only draw you in and keep your attention the whole time, but it will more than likely have you laughing your ass off at parts of it.
The characters are beautifully written with big hearts, however if you cross them, they have no problem putting you down. They will protect their mates with their entire lives. I had a blast reading this story. It caught my attention from the moment I started reading and kept it all the way to the end. It also gave me everything I could want in a book.
I can honestly tell you that this is going to be one of those types of series. One that I will have to read over and over. I love the way all the feelings they felt was involved in this story. It was the perfect story for me and I loved it. I can’t wait to read the next story. When Lisa puts out a book I am usually there to eat them up. Trust me it will keep you laughing, crying, loving and having fun.

Blurb: A remote farmhouse in Cornwall seems the perfect place for Ash to settle into his recently altered status. Starting a new life there with Sam—the shifter he can’t stay away from—should be easy this far from London where they faced so much danger. So why does adjusting seem impossible?
Sam has issues of his own. He has to get used to his human form again after living the last eight years as a wolf. It’s hard when human worries weigh so heavily on his shoulders. Life is much more straightforward from a wolf’s perspective, until Ash needs his human support.
Ash’s problem is simple: he’s fearful of shifting fully. How can he believe he won’t hurt Sam when his genes were altered to create a killer? Despite repeated reassurance, his anger and resentment increase. Only one thing is certain: if Ash can’t learn to trust himself soon, he’s in danger of proving himself right.
Review:The Altered 2 is obviously the sequel to Annabelle Jacob’s novella, The Altered. You need to have read book 1, all the explanations relevant to the storyline are dealt with in detail in the first book and the main characters here were also encountered as minor characters.
After some mixed feelings about the first book I was pleasantly and completely blown away by the sequel. This shows a unique world where the UK government have done the unthinkable and introduced chemicals in the water supply that had transformed many people in the last couple decades, many shifters and the more feared seers.
In this installment we follow Sam, a man who chose to predominantly stay in wolf form for almost decade because things seemed simpler, and Ash, who was fully human until recently while he stuck to the side of his best friend (who was MC in the first book). Thankfully this story is less about the explanation and set up of this almost apocalyptic world which means that the plot line was easy to follow and I quickly found myself loving the characters that Ms Jacobs has created here.
The story is sweet and romantic. It is mostly about Sam and Ash needing to heal and come to terms with themselves so that they can fall madly in love, be mates and have the hope for a HEA of some description. I cannot fathom what exactly it was about these two, but they are both magnetic in the way that I fell in love with the characters and cheered for them from the start.
Sam’s back story is both simple and fascinating and really did well to explain why he chose to remain in his wolf form for so long. Ash is going through a major transformation and I found it so easy to connect and understand him through the process.
If you’ve read the first one, this is a must read because the plot for this one was set up in the first book. But also, perhaps more importantly, the sequel was more enjoyable than the first. It feels like the author has settled in the world she has created, so we as readers can also settle into the world.
If you like paranormal/shifter stories, this is definitely one for you.

Title: Chasing the Rainbow Series: N/A Author: Kade Boehme Genre: Contemporary Romance Length: Novel (222 pages) Publisher: Kade Boehme (May 14th 2015) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥4 Hearts Blurb: Bobby Gugino realized he may have met the man of his dreams in Jody Olsen, only neither of them were gay, so far as Bobby knew. But when Jody came out and ended his marriage, Bobby’s entire worldview was skewed, and his own health issues lead to his own coming out. Fast forward four years and Bobby runs into Jody again, but Bobby may be too busy making up for lost time to see how great they are together.
Jody Olsen’s got guilt and mommy issues, but his coming out was smooth and his life had settled into a mundane pattern of kissing frogs while waiting for prince charming and helping run his mother’s book store in New York’s East Village. When Bobby comes bumbling back into his life with a surprising shared passion for the written word and an endearing love for sugary Frappuccino, Jody can’t help but be quickly swept up by the man.
The struggle to be patient with Bobby and his being unsure about being committed to someone is not an easy one. Does Jody hope for his happy ever after with Bobby, or is the lure of chasing the rainbow too much to fight against?
Includes a fresh-faced divorcee with his nose in romance novels and his heart in the clouds, a thirty-something fresh out of the closet, chasing a missed youth and trying to find his place in the big gay world he’d missed out on… and a little dirty suit sex.
Review: Jody Olsen is still on the heels of his divorce and finally coming clean about his sexuality. He has a job he loves as the manager of his family’s book store and a great apartment. The only thing missing is a man to call his own. As luck would have it, a happy circumstance brings the perfect guy into Jody’s life. But it isn’t without complications.
Bobby Gugino is fresh off a break-up with his long-term girlfriend after coming clean about his sexuality as well when he gives an old acquaintance a ride home and the game changes. Bobby is tall, dark, handsome, successful and smart… everything Jody wants in a man. But while Bobby actively pursues Jody, he also struggles with the possibility of being tied down to one person.
The story is told from alternating POV between Bobby and Jody and I quite liked that aspect of the story. It was nice to see a certain situation from the mind of each character, the action and the reaction.
I also liked that they had the common ground of coming out later in life, so there wasn’t any angst or issues with that, they’d each experienced it and moved on. What I loved most about the story was how as Bobby and Jody grew closer as a couple, they each became stronger individuals. When faced with some possibly devastating news, they made it through by sticking together.
There were a few mistakes here and there, misspelled or misplaced words and I’m pretty sure there was a name swap once, but I thoroughly enjoyed the overall feel of the book.
Title: Claimed: Prince of the City
Series: Prince of the City, Season 3, Book 2/New Haven Series Bk13 Author: Nicholas Bella Genre: Dark Paranormal/Erotic Horror Length: Novella (104 pages) Publisher: Nicholas Bella (May 31st, 2015) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥5 Hearts
Blurb: Deacon: Tonight is the night I begin the Claiming ritual with Elijah. He’s still trying to pretend that he doesn’t have feelings for me, and he’s being quite mouthy about it. But all of that will end with a little discipline.
Noel: I’ve learned so much training with Marco, I thought I could fight, but he’s showing me what true fighting really is. I just hope I can survive his lessons.
Théoden: Dante, my stubborn son, will needs a serious attitude adjustment and no one is better equipped to do that than me. I’m going to beat him into submission until he understands who his Master really is.
Warning: This serial contains strong adult content not meant for sensitive eyes. The novelettes in this serial will be filled with dark, twisted, raunchy and steamy scenes between powerful, sexy men that will either offend you or get ya revved up.
This series will not be pulling any punches, and it won’t apologize for hurting your feelings, either. You’ll find no fluff and ruffles here. The vampires are not misunderstood, hopeless romantics looking for love. The werewolves are not cute and cuddly and the dragons aren’t the ones from your childhood.
This is NOT a romance.
There are approximately 34000 words in this novelette.
Review: I thought Théoden was a badass before, but NOW, he is sadistic badass. Wow, the alphas have come out to play. Whether it was Théoden, Marco, or Deacon, they all had a point to make and god help you if you were on the opposite end of their wrath.
Someone else who is a badass…Dante. Boy, when are you going to learn? He is super mouthy and apparently had not suffered enough to learn his lesson. Théoden has never met a challenge he didn’t win and he was determined to break Dante. You got to give credit to Dante for not going down easily, and I think had Théoden not discovered his weakness, he would still be fighting him. He is one of the characters that I am most eager to see where Nicholas takes him.
Another one not willing to be outdone was Deacon. I think he kind of thought Elijah would have conceded by now but he is just as hardheaded as his master. Because Elijah is Deacon’s mate, he was being very liberal with him but Elijah’s hostility was getting out of hand.
There are three mating rituals to go through before their mating is complete. With each one the bond seems to be forming stronger between them. I am anxious for Elijah to concede because I think he and Deacon will be a really hot couple together. I like Deacon, I like the way he handles those closest to him, but I’m concerned with his intentions to outwit Théoden.
The most important issue right now for Deacon is mating and claiming Elijah. Two wolves together equal HOT and you certainly don’t want to miss this moment. There are many hot scenes to encounter and Théoden has fun with a dragon and his flexible tongue. You definitely don’t want to miss that.
I am so impressed with Nicholas’s creativity and the way he pulls the reader in with each scene he writes. The plot is so thick now with several different entities at play. It doesn’t matter if it is vampires, dragons, or werewolves taking over the plot. Every character Nicholas has created is addicting and easy to fall in love with. It almost seems the more brutal and sadistic their behavior…the more we love them.
The New Haven Series is compiled of 13 books so far and in no way, shape, or form, are his fans getting bored. Each one just gets better and better and as readers we can’t seem to get enough. The dialogue is fresh and his resourcefulness is brilliant.
If you haven’t tried any of these books by Nicholas Bella, you need to read the warnings, first and foremost, and if you think you can handle it, you need to jump in and take the plunge. Warning…they are addictive. As usual, I will be waiting on pins and needles for the next one.

Title: Knight of Ocean Avenue Series: Love in Laguna, #1 Author: Tara Lain Genre: New Adult Romance Length: Novel (254 pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (May 1st 2015) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 3 ¾ Hearts
Blurb: How can you be twenty-five and not know you’re gay? Billy Ballew runs from that question. A high school dropout, barely able to read until he taught himself, Billy’s life is driven by his need to help support his parents as a construction worker, put his sisters through college, coach his Little League team, and not think about being a three-time loser in the engagement department. Being terrified of taking tests keeps Billy from getting the contractor’s license he so desires, and fear of his mother’s judgment blinds Billy to what could make him truly happy.
Then, in preparation for his sister’s big wedding, Billy meets Shaz—Chase Phillips—a rising star, celebrity stylist who defines the word gay. To Shaz, Billy embodies everything he’s ever wanted—stalwart, honest, and brave—but even if Billy turns out to be gay, he could never endure the censure he’d get for being with a queen like Shaz. How can two men with so little in common find a way to be together? Can the Stylist of the Year end up with the Knight of Ocean Avenue?
Review: I liked this book a lot, it was humorous and adorable! I loved Shaz, he was my favorite, such a sparkly personality in a small but magical package. Can you say Shazam?
The first half of this book was 5 stars, it was addicting! I loved Billy and his clueless ways, I mean he could’ve tripped and fell face first on a dick, love it and still not think he might be gay. I got a good laugh out of him, that’s for sure! And he even had gay cats, isn’t that so darn cute?
Shaz was just….Shaz! Never afraid to show who he is, Shaz was very brave in a town where it seems most of the population had homophobic tendencies. I loved Shaz (I know I said that before but it bears repeating ☺), which it’s a bit weird for me because normally very effeminate, outspoken, outrageous, in-your-face gay men are not my favorite. But somehow Shaz was effortlessly fabulous and he brought a lot of spark to this book.
The second half of the book was too cheesy for me, so maybe 3 stars. I needed some angst or something; I’m not sure what was missing, but I felt I needed something more. I found Shaz’s teaching ways very innovative; we’d all ace our tests if we had some Shaz magic in our lives.
However, I couldn’t stand Billy’s mom. What a freaking bitch! She was fine with Billy working his ass off to pay her bills, but she didn’t miss any opportunity to criticize him and do what she did best throughout the whole book: BITCH! I wanted to duct tape her mouth shut! She ruined this book for me, that’s for sure!
This was a great start to a new series and I’m looking forward to book #2, where Jim is going to mend his broken heart (literally). I was hoping we’d get Ru’s book sooner, but I guess some waiting didn’t kill anyone.

Title: Shotgun Series: CODA, #7 Author: Marie Sexton Genre: Contemporary / Suspense Length: Novel (260 Pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (May 29th 2015) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥ 4 Hearts Blurb: As a young man, Dominic Jacobsen already suspects he’s gay, and he gets all the confirmation he needs when a rich boy from out of town climbs into the back seat of Dominic’s GTO. One night with Lamar Franklin is all it takes to convince Dominic he’s found the man of his dreams. Unfortunately, that one night is all he’ll get before Lamar returns to Tucson.
Fifteen years later Lamar returns to Coda, Colorado, after ending the latest in a string of bad relationships. He’s alone, depressed, and plagued by late-night phone calls from an unidentified caller. Lamar’s ready to give up when he comes face-to-face with his past.
Since he was seventeen, Dominic has dreamed of a reunion with Lamar, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready for it now. Facing small-town rumors and big-family drama is bad enough, but Dominic won’t risk losing custody of his teenage daughter, Naomi. The only solution is to make sure he and Lamar remain friends and nothing more. Clothes stay on, no matter what.
It seems simple enough. But for better or worse, Lamar has other ideas.
Review: A welcome return to the Coda family! Several characters from the Coda series make an appearance in this story of first love and second chances. Our favorite public servant, Jared’s hubby Matt plays a big role investigating Lamar’s stalker and he introduces him to his sexy hubby Jared and of course my personal favorite the edgy and king of dry Angelo.
Zach is briefly in and out of scenes, eyeing Lamar, getting sexy with Angelo, and being his laid back self. I love how Lamar discovers this small gay community in Coda and it gives him strength, and he needs that to handle the violence against him as well as handling his ill-defined relationship with Dominic.
Dominic is a pretty well predicted case of closeted gay single dad. I already knew how the daughter would react but the author tortures him, and us along the way as Dominica deals with his fears of coming out and grabbing some happiness for himself and reaching for Lamar.
What I found most interested about this story line is the comparison of the two ways Dominica and Lamar react as they met each other initially and again 15 years later. Their first meeting was instant sparks, hot and heavy, a brief whirlwind of sexual experiences, and then they parted…and life rattle don.
The second time is intense, but drawn out, by Lamar’s reluctance to be intimate as well as Dominic’s need to curb his desires. The fact that they get to know one another again over days of Lego building is a fun twist, kind of like Angelo, Zach and puzzles.
Overall this is a sweet, scary, sad, and haunting, slow build to a long deserved happiness. Snapshots of what it’s like to live with depression, what it’s like to be in an emotionally abusive relationship, what it’s like to fear showing the world who you are, what it’s like to jump off that cliff, all of these come together to create a heartwarming read. It’s nice to visit with old friends, and introduce new characters we can all fall in love with.
Oh and I love that Angelo still jerks Matt’s chain, making him wildly jealous when it comes to Jared! A recommended read, can stand alone, but I say read the whole series!

Review: This was a cute short story with a lot of heat in it. It is part of the Bollocks Anthology. It started off with a prank and ended up with love.
Simon and Chris have been friends for quite some time. So one night they go out, Simon tells Chris that he has always wanted to moon a cop. By doing so, Simon has caught the eye of a certain cop who loved that ass. Mark was turned the hell on, and when it comes face to face time, damn he is caught.
I got a big kick out of this. I couldn’t really go into the story too much, without giving it away. It is a fast, light-hearted read with quite a bit of meat to it, which is surprising since it wasn’t even twenty pages.
I would definitely recommend this.

Title: Second Chance at Forever Series: The Reilly Coven, #6 Author: Christine Shaw Genre: Paranormal/Werewolves/Vampires Length: Novella (84 pages) Publisher: Siren-BookStrand, Inc. (May 7th 2015) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts Blurb: In 1918, Oakley Reilly was helping out at a clinic in Northern Spain. One day after resting his weary head he discovered a man on the brink of death. He tried everything he could to save the young man from suffering the same fate so many others before him had. But there was nothing he could do for the young man fated by blood to be Oakley’s mate.
Jack Hayes heard what his mate said to him, what he confessed as pain wracked his body in what he knew was death. But when he did die something else happened entirely.
Oakley lived a life after that so full of pain, but in his dreams his mate would beg him to live, if just for another day. He reluctantly agreed every time for every day following that dreadful day.
Review: Each book in the Reilly Coven collection features a different romantic couple. To enjoy the overall story arc and crossover characters, I would recommend reading the series in sequential order. There is nothing better than a good paranormal romance with two gorgeous men involved.
However this story was a disappointment for me. It starts out pretty good but then it finishes like it is a rush job. It gets to the point that it is confusing.
Oakley had met his mate over ninety years ago and lost him within four hours. He had wanted to get away and see the world, but came home a broken man. His mate had promised him that he would find him, but it got to the point of when was the time to stop wandering.
Jack had left his body and followed Oakley through his life. Until someone special told him how to get back to his mate. Everything was new and their love was what held them together.
Now see when a body dies, the skin melts away and so on. So when you come back to your body I do not see how it can be done. Then everything else just moves too fast for one to really believe. There were misspelled words and words used wrong in sentences.
I love the fact that they love each other, however there was no upset, and no discord with them. They had some danger but none of it connected right. It was meet, sex, and in love. There was no true feeling to this story. I can’t wait to see if the next story improves. I was not happy about how this story turned out.

Title: The Prince Wore Pink Stilettos, 2nd edition Series: N/A Author: Julie Lynn Hayes Genre: Contemporary, Cross Dressing Length: Short (28 Pages) Publisher: Wayward Ink Publishing (October 24th 2014) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥ 3 Hearts Blurb: I was eighteen and gay and working on prom night, a Cinderella without a prince, when a vision appeared in the coffee aisle: He was wearing a short, black skirt, a pale cream shirt that exposed his bare midriff, and upon his feet were a pair of very pink, very high stiletto heels. And he was my very own high school wet dream, Rob Marshall!
Review: This is a cute, sexy and sweet short story. At first I thought it would end a bit differently but I was so glad that it didn’t. It talks of sweet beginnings and teenage dreams.
Michael had opted out of going to the prom, why should he didn’t have a date. So he decided to work the night away. He had the hots for one of the kids at school but figured he would never have the chance. Till that dream showed up a school in pink heels and a black mini. Talk about a hot sight and even better night.
It makes for a great quick read. I had a blast reading it but it needed so much more to make it perfect. A girls desire to explore the old house, finds some heels that brought back memories.
I would recommend reading it, especially if you love old romantic times.

Title: The Rebuilding Year Series: The Rebuilding Year, # 1 Author: Kaje Harper Genre: Gay Erotic Romance Length: Novel (323 pages) Publisher: Samhain Publishing (March 6th 2012) Heat Level: Explicit Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts Blurb: Losing nearly everything leaves room for the one thing they can’t live without.
A few excruciating minutes pinned in a burning building cost Ryan Ward his job as a firefighter, the easy camaraderie of his coworkers, his girlfriend, and damn near cost him his left leg. Giving up, though, isn’t an option. Compared to the alternative, choosing a new profession, going back to school and renting a room from the college groundskeeper are simple.
Until he realizes he’s falling in love with his housemate, and things take a turn for the complicated.
John Barrett knows about loss. After moving twice to stay in touch with his kids, he could only watch as his ex-wife whisked them away to California. Offering Ryan a room seems better than rattling around the empty house, but as casual friendship moves to something more, and a firestorm of emotions ignites, the big old house feels like tight quarters.
It’s nothing they can’t learn to navigate, though. But when dead bodies start turning up on campus—and one of the guys is a suspect—their first taste of real love could go up in smoke.
Review: Kaje never disappoints me with her stories. I had read this story when it first come out but hadn’t really thought about it. Then I was reading the blurb for this and thought I want this book. Then I started reading it and it just snapped for me. It was like I know this book and sure enough I did. I remembered every single thing that had happened and it made the same impact now that it had then.
Except that I think I loved it even more now, the thing is when I first read it I was new to the m/m stories. Now I am more in love with the characters and their story.
Ryan had always wanted to be a doctor but when his little brother died fighting fires he changed his plans. For years he did what he did and was glad that he could save people. Then a fired had him pinned and it had almost cost him his leg. Now his decision was to go back to school and do what he had wanted to do in the first place. What he had not expected was to find a guy, rent a room from the guy and start being attracted to the guy. He was straight after all.
John had basically saved Ryan when he took a tumble down the stairs. He had invited Ryan to rent a room from him for several reasons. Ryan took him up on it, and things were going pretty good that is until John kissed him. This, of course, freaked them both out because John is straight, too. Or so they thought any way. All is going pretty good, they are getting use to each other. Than John’s son ran away from home and came straight to his dad. Things are going to get real interesting now, for sure. And on top of all that they have a killer on the loose, and John is looking to be a suspect.
This is a fascinating story and I can’t believe that I had not read it more than once. In fact I want to go read it once more just to catch the guys’ reaction to their first kiss. Two straight guys who fall in love with each other and the heat is up. Their kisses are hot but when they get around to figuring out how to have sex things get even better.
I had a blast reading this and cannot wait to read the next story. Hot sex, sweet gestures, sexy men, excitement, a bit of suspense, action and danger is just a part of what you get in this book. It gave me everything I could want in a story and kept my attention all the way to the end.
I would recommend reading this story. I have read a few stories by Kaje, but this is my favorite of them all. They are written with the author’s heart all the way through it. It has a serious tone to it and has some funny moments in it which to me makes it even better. I had a blast and look forward to reading more by this amazing author.

Murder and Mayhem
by
Rhys Ford
Dead women tell no tales.
Former cat burglar Rook Stevens stole many a priceless thing in the past, but he’s never been accused of taking a life—until now. It was one thing to find a former associate inside Potter’s Field, his pop culture memorabilia shop, but quite another to stumble across her dead body.
Detective Dante Montoya thought he’d never see Rook Stevens again—not after his former partner’d falsified evidence to entrap the jewelry thief and Stevens walked off scot-free. So when he tackled a fleeing murder suspect, Dante was shocked to discover the blood-covered man was none other than the thief he’d fought to put in prison and who still made his blood sing.
Rook is determined to shake loose the murder charge against him, even if it means putting distance between him and the rugged Cuban-Mexican detective who brought him down. If one dead con artist wasn’t bad enough, others soon follow, and as the bodies pile up around Rook’s feet, he’s forced to reach out to the last man he’d expect to believe in his innocence—and the only man who’s ever gotten under Rook’s skin.

Vampire Rising

It’s the mid twenty-first century. Anti-Semitism, racism, sexism and homophobia have been consigned to the dustbin of history. The world is run by “the state,” and Christian zealots, whose chief governing tools are fear and oppression. It’s a wonderful time to be alive—unless you’re a Vampire. Vampires are despised, and feared, and subjected to discrimination and unspeakable violence.
Considered undead, unholy, without basic human rights, Gatsby Calloway lives on the fringes of society, avoiding humanity. Until he meets Barnabas, a young encaustic painter.
When Barnabas is mortally wounded during an anti-Vampire attack, Gatsby must forget everything he has known, and learn to trust.
Title: Path Not Taken Series:2015 Daily Dose Delivery Package – Never Too Late Author: Andrew Grey Genre: Contemporary Length: Short (41 pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press LLC (June 1st 2015) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 4 ½ Hearts
Blurb: On the train from Lancaster to Philadelphia, Trent runs into Brit, his first love and the first man to break his heart. They’ve both been through a lot in the years since they parted ways, and as they talk, the old connection tenuously strengthens.
Trent finally works up the nerve to call Brit, and their rekindled friendship slowly grows into the possibility for more. But both men are shadowed by their pasts as they explore the path they didn’t take the first time. If they can move beyond loss and painful memories, they might find their road leads to a second chance at happiness.
Review: Over twenty years since these two men were one best
There’s something to be said for maturity and experience, whether it’s a second chance at love, a May/December romance, or finding a soul mate later in life. These stories prove that it’s never too late for new love.
friends and short-term lovers. They have each moved on with their lives, had long term relationships with others, but they have never forgotten each other. When they meet on the same train one day they slowly start to get to know each other again.
In my experience Andrew Grey always gives a well written book, and this was no different. The characters are easy to relate to. Trenton and Brit have lived a life time apart and need to find a way to fit into each other’s lives together. They have both lost people they loved and have some leftover emotions that caused a bit of angst.
This was a good, light, enjoyable read.

Title: Just His Series: His #10 Author: Shawn Lane Genre: Contemporary Length: Novella (67 pages) Publisher: Amber Allure, Amber Quill Press (10 May 2015) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥3.5 Hearts Blurb: After his boss at the hospital suggests he take a sabbatical for a much-needed rest, neurologist Geoff Spencer ends up at his friend’s cabin in Big Bear, California.
But to Geoff’s surprise, his former lover is also there—his friend’s brother, the beautiful Adrian Michels, a brooding artist and a “commitment-phobe” who broke Geoff’s heart years earlier before leaving unexpectedly for Europe.
Now, Adrian suggests a no-strings affair while Geoff is with him in Big Bear. Although torn, Geoff eventually agrees. But what he really wants is for Adrian to be his—just his—for eternity…
Review: So I’m going to reiterate what I wrote when I first picked one of Shawn Lane’s “His” series. Yes, this book is part of a series. However, I had read books 8 and 9 before even realising that. So let’s just assume that with the exception of some past characters possibly popping up here and there, these are largely standalone book.
Now I’m going to add to that caveat. This story was very satisfying for me to read because Geoff, the doctor whose professional life as a doctor is far better than his personal life, was introduced back in Hopefully His and Impossibly His (His books 8 and 9). I went back to read what I wrote about Geoff in my review for the previous book and I had picked up that in one book he started out nice and then in the next he was a dick. I was happy to find out that this was somewhat explained, although I would have preferred more detail than the vague description of his breakdown, of sorts.
Now, the guts of the story: it’s a rather simple and uncomplicated story. The love of Geoff’s life, Adrian, broke up with him years before because he wanted to be able to sleep with other men and Geoff wanted a total commitment. I can’t help but think that Adrian is given a rather stereotypical artist persona. The two guys are thrown together once more it’s clear that the years have changed Adrian more so than they have Geoff.
I would have preferred a bit more from the minor characters, which only really counts for Geoff’s friend and her husband, who happen to be Adrian’s family (I might have missed something but I’m not sure which is Adrian’s biological brother). I feel that they could have had more say to the guys, particularly Adrian who really was selfish in his earlier years. They didn’t need to intervene with Geoff and Adrian’s relationship but I just wanted a bit more.
Despite what I wanted more of, which is essentially a longer book, I really enjoyed this addition to the series. It’s a charming story about reconnection and I’m most especially glad that Geoff got his own story.
I hate to reuse a paragraph I’ve written before for this series (Hopefully His), but this is just equally applicable to this book. I’ve been drawn to Shawn Lane books because they are quick, satisfying reads. Although she does have a tendency for abrupt endings and usually right after the characters get together or the HEA, everything before is always good to read.
I particularly enjoyed it because it was a nice, light story to read after I had just finished reading an intense full length novel.

Blurb: Leeland Jeffers is a contented single man with a thriving career in Atlanta. He’s had a few unsuccessful relationships over the years, but no one has even come close to his first love, Harrison Rhinehart. They met in college when a mutual friend, Suzie Garrison, introduced Harry into their close-knit group.
When the supposedly “straight” Harry made a move on Lee, the two men entered into a tumultuous secret love affair. In their senior year, the relationship finally ended when Harry informed Lee he was marrying Suzie.
Since graduation, the college friends have drifted apart. However, an unexpected invitation to a destination wedding seems set to reunite them all. Lee’s speculation on whether Harry and Suzie will make an appearance threatens to derail his attendance.
But Lee decides the hell with it and makes plans to go, Harry Rhinehart or no Harry Rhinehart.
Review: I always look forward to any book written by Scotty Cade, he quickly has become one of my favourite go-to authors – to date I’ve not been outright bored or just hated any story that I’ve read of his.
That being said, although this is not my favourite of his, it’s still a good read and chock-full of emotion. I’ve now decided that the reason for this is that there is more angst than I prefer in most stories (too much angst bores me to tears), so I’ve decided to bump the rating up a bit higher because I know that is just me.
The story is told by Leeland Jeffers, Lee, for the most part. He likes to think that he is happy in both his personal and professional life, though he does not have any long-term boyfriend. Meeting with Harrison, his college boyfriend, stirs up a lot of uncertain feelings. In college their relationship had been secret but the attraction was dynamite.
Harrison Rhineheart broke Lee’s heart in senior year college when he left Lee to marry their friend, Suzie (who is also clearly a woman). Harrison has a lot of grovelling to do to get his life back in order. Unlike Leeland, his personal life is a mess, albeit one that he created himself over the years.
All this culminates in a story about reconnection between two guys who have some fantastic chemistry. However, there is a lot more that was crammed into it too: closeted vs. openly gay men, emotionally dealing with both of these, love and fidelity.
There is also the very real thing that everyone can relate to – your group of high school/university/college friends drifting apart and somehow reconnecting with them years later.
Portia’s Two Cents: As much as I LOVE Scotty Cade, I’ve got to agree with Prime on this one. Definitely not my favorite. If Scotty ever reprints this, I’d wish for about a hundred more pages. All of Harry begging for forgiveness and kissing Lee’s ass.

Blurb: Hank Vaught had a past, one that made him wary of relationships. When the man he’s interested in betrays his trust, Hank refuses to have anything to do with him. But fate has a way of making a man regret decisions made in haste.
When Sammy’s life is threatened, Hank is the first to run to his rescue. Getting Sammy to agree to speak to him again might be harder than finding the serial arsonist that is plaguing Cade Creek. It might be damn near impossible.
Sammy Helmond wanted Hank with a need that clouded every decision he made. Not knowing what he did to get Hank to kick him to the curb, Sammy tries to move on with his life. With nothing to lose, he gives into family pressure and moves away from Cade Creek. But even that solace is denied him when he finds himself engaged to be married to a woman who needs rescuing more than he does.
Desire brought Hank and Sammy together. Betrayal kept them apart. Can they learn to trust each other or will their chance at love be over before it can even really start?
Review:This book is part of a series and should be read in order. Also this is a spin-off of the Blaecleah Brothers series and takes place in the same town with characters from that series showing up.
Hank has been betrayed before by a lover. So when given reason to doubt Sammy he does, immediately. But once he learns the truth he goes after his man for all he is worth.
Sammy has also been betrayed. But he is more trusting. Is issue is that what Hank does leaves him feeling insecure and he gets dragged into his crazy ass family’s drama. By doing that he almost loses his freedom. Luckily he does come to his senses and gets away from them.
These two men are smoking hot together and burn up in the sex scenes. Outside of them, they are just plain sweet as hell.
Seriously, I got a sugar rush.
Really the whole concept of what happens it a bit crazy and most likely would not happen. But either way I enjoyed the wacky ride. Both of these men have been hurt before and have reason to mistrust. Still they manage to finally communicate and make it work. I love a happy ending, and this definitely was that.
I can’t wait to see what happens next in the series.

Title: Mens Rea Series: 2015 Daily Dose- Never Too Late Author: Brooke Edwards Genre: Romantic Suspense Length: Short Story (25 pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press (June 1, 2015) Heat Level: Moderate Heart Rating: ♥♥♥3Hearts Blurb: James Carter is forty-five and has been a police officer most of his life. He married young, lost her young, and his life revolved around his work and his son. Young is a recurring theme in his life, he thinks, when he meets the considerably younger AUSA Derek Moore on a case and finds himself ruled by the whims of his heart.
The road to love between a hotshot lawyer and a veteran cop was never going to be smooth, not in the real world, but there are criminals, misunderstandings, and a lack of communication standing in their way too. Both are so stubborn and convinced their interest is one-sided that it takes a murder case, exhaustion, and an adjournment for them to get their act together. They move fast after that, but they both know there’s no guarantee for tomorrow.
Review: This is part of the 2015 Daily Dose- Never Too Late. I am not one for short stories and this one had potential but did not come through for me. For one it starts in the middle of something big and then ends with no ending. Oh sure the love is going great but what they were doing was not. It kind of sucked to have such a great story but not start it the way one would think. I was not impressed with this story.
James is a police officer and his intent was to catch the bad guy. Once he caught them then the attorneys would come in and do their job. At one time he had married and had a son. When his wife died things slowed down. However he has taken an interest in Derek. Too bad neither one has a clue that the other one is interested in the other. When Derek gets hurt, James will do everything to protect him. Now if only they could figure out their lives as well as they do their cases.
I can’t really go into some parts of the story without giving it away. However it has great potential if there was more of a beginning to the story. I can see the ending being left open but not the beginning. In all other thoughts it was a bit confusing to me. It was just a little mixed up in certain parts. Other than that the story will be a great one if it doesn’t come off rushed.

Title: Up to Boil Series:2015 Daily Dose Delivery Package – Never Too Late Author: Tia Fielding Genre: Contemporary Length: Short (19 pages) Publisher: Dreamspinner Press LLC (June 1st 2015) Heat Level: Low Heart Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥ 5 Hearts Blurb: When plumber and builder Jordan Novotny goes to take a look at the home of the town’s openly gay, recently dumped librarian, he doesn’t expect to find anything other than a falling-apart old house and a water heater in need of repair. Instead, he finds an older man in need of some TLC and a new circle of friends after his ex tossed him aside for a newer model.
Stephen might be attracted to Jordan, but he thinks the young man is exactly that—too young. It takes Jordan’s family interfering and a bit of a mishap to make them see that it’s never too late to find a new love, and that age is just a number. All that matters is compatibility and the courage to take a chance.
Review: I simply loved this little short. Totally sweet and cute.
There’s something to be said for maturity and experience, whether it’s a second chance at love, a May/December romance, or finding a soul mate later in life. These stories prove that it’s never too late for new love.
There is no other way to describe it.
Stephen is an older gentleman who has recently been thrown away by his partner for a younger model. His former partner walked out and even took their friends with him. Leaving Stephen with an old house that is slowly falling apart.
In walked Jordan a young man working for his family business. He helps Stephen out and even offers comfort with a simple hug. The best thing of all is that Stephen gets adopted by Jordan’s family.
There is no over the top romance or sex in this tale. Just two men slowly falling in love with each other. They find something in the other both needed and take their time. I love the ending, just perfect.
